This place is totally great. On the quiet part of the North Shore in Kauai where bridges are too narrow for bus tours, and right near Tunnels beach and close to the Na Pali coast trek. Kirby and Toby are fantastic hosts, the breakfasts are fresh and super good, and the rooms are beautiful and comfortable without any of the overdone cheesiness and floral patterns that alot of other places have down there. You have full use of a huge nice kitchen so you can cook fresh fish and avoid the overpriced meals at restaurants. Big Jacuzzi and free snorkeling equipment. I couldn't recommend this place enough.
Fantastic B&B with great views of the mountains. it is located in a less populated area, requiring a few one-lane bridge crossings to get to. it is near the haena state beach park, and the Ke'e beach and access to the na'pali coast. there is a designated parking spot for each room that is well marked. the grounds and building is very well kept. Toby and Kirby are great hosts, keeping conversation going during breakfast. the house is incredible, with an outdoor shower/hot tub, big bathrooms, private balconies, and plenty of hawaiian breezes. would recommend again!
love love love this place! Felt like home away from home! Toby and Kirby were wonderful hosts! Toby makes you breakfast each morning and always with a platter of fresh fruit. Kirby has many ideas of what to do and where, and seems to know everyone on the island. It felt like we were part of the community here and very welcomed. Location is perfect, we stayed in the guava room and could see and hear a small bit of the ocean from our lanai. Located in the most beautiful part of Kauai I think, near tunnels for snorkeling (they have gear you can borrow), near the Kalalau trail, and close to Hanneli. They also have wi-fi and no cleaning fee. The kitchen is free for anyone to use, but if it's you cooking, you clean. Hot -tub is huge.

Food: not good Service: bad Atmosphere: ok-ish Prices: way too high for what it is We were on honeymoon and wanted a nice dinner out one night. All the guidebooks recommended Postcards, and the description as vegetarian + fish seemed perfect for a (veganish+fish) and (vegetarian) couple. Only 4 parking spaces, but after hours you can park across the street in a neighboring business's lot. We chose to sit outside and then noticed how buggy it was and how many mosquitoes were eating us, so we moved inside. An upscale restaurant with outdoor seating usually does something to discourage bugs. We ordered the taro fritter appetizer and the risotto entrees. We were disappointed that there was only one vegetarian entree, and one that could be made vegetarian, on the menu. Didn't seem that vegetarian friendly, and there were only 6 entrees on the menu total. Maybe a handful of appetizers would have been better. My husband got the risotto with seafood, and I got mine with tofu/vegetables. The taro fritters were ok, not great. Both risottos were way too oily, and seemed overly cheesy. The seafood one came with no vegetables, which disappointed my husband. Mine had a good amount of tofu & vegetables, but it was still bad due to being so overly oily and not prepared very well. The service wasn't so good. Our waitress wasn't friendly, didn't smile ever, seemed like she was trying really hard to be formal but not succeeding, and wasn't attentive. The fake formal thing got on our nerves with the way she announced each ingredient/dish instead of just telling us. Another waitress came by to refill our waters (for which we had to wait a long time) and take our plates away, and she seemed a little better. Our plates and our glasses were all sweating like crazy, and they had no placemats or coasters or tablecloths or anything. The whole table became quite wet, which was uncomfortable. In general, the place was uncomfortable and didn't have the romantic ambiance we had hoped for (instead was bright, loud). The better waitress came by to provide dessert menus and seemed very surprised that we weren't interested, but we were just itching to get out of this place and end our bad experience. If the prices had been half what they were, I don't think we would have felt so bad, but it just seemed a total shame to spend so much money (just under $100) on poorly prepared food with annoying service/atmosphere.
Good food, but small menu. There food and service was great, by be aware if you don't like seafood then there is little to no options for you.
Get the peppered pineapple sage sauce! I don't care what you put it on, just get it. My mouth waters just thinking about it, and our vacation's been over for days. This place has very friendly staff, great food and a nice atmosphere. Definitely recommended for something a little more upscale than your average taco joint in Hanalei, although the quality doesn't mean it's pretentious or standoffish. Great place for a romantic dinner.

Great bar. Live music. Unfortunately supports Virginia Tech! But I'm sure the owner is cool otherwise.
Chicken salad with macadamia nuts on avocado?!?! WHAT? YES. it is one of their HUGE salads, and it is delicious. Cute place to stop for lunch. I didn't get any drinks here, but was told by local that this is the best bar.
The Hanalei Moa burger with cheddar cheese- Ginger marinated chicken breast grilled - was mouth watering. Coconut spinach soup was also surprisingly good. Outside seating available, though no alcoholic beverages allowed. Service was great even though the place was pretty packed. Prices are reasonable - especially compared to other restaurants in Hanalei. And did I mention, live music!

Great sports bar with a backdrop of a beautiful area. Had fans and open windows with a great breeze. Friendly staff, people having fun. Definitely some good vibes coming from this place. Has your typical bar fixin's but with that Hawaiian flair. Got the Fresh Island fish sandwich and fish and chips. The Sandwich: Great fresh fish. Had an lemon/dill combo mayo that complimented the charbroiled fish. Very tasty. I'd get it again for sure. Fish and chips: Again, absolutely, it's all about the fish. Excellent battered/fried so you had that crunch, but it wasn't overpowering. Fish definitely the star . If I was in the area, wanted a sporty/bar atmosphere, would come here. Two big screens!
The restaurant is located inside what was originally a school house. The wall behind the bar is open to the outside and has a nice view of tropical plants and the mountains. The decor is very casual and all of the specials are written on the chalk board. It was crowded the first time I stopped by for lunch on a work trip and was crowded last night for dinner. I had a cheeseburger and fries which was great but there must have been a potato shortage on the north shore because there weren't very many fries. My wife and one of our friends had the fish tacos made with Marlin which was the fish of the day. Both of them raved about how good they were and they don't even like fish tacos. I had one bite and it was very good. Our other friend had a chicken salad which she liked but said the chicken part of the salad was dry and had to ask for more dressing. Overall our dinner was very satisfying and I would recommend this place to anyone of my fiends.
Food is okay... Some hiccups occurred though... We ordered an avocado ham sandwich special for about $15 (came with soup) and they forgot the avocado (it's called an avocado sandwich)... The cole slaw on the fish and chips was not very good... So far our experience with food in Kauai has been fantastic but this experience was not up to par... Yet we paid for par... Staff is very friendly though ....

Probably one of the best places for happy hour on the north shore! Cheap prices ($3 beers), large HH plates ($6 chicken wings - 6 big ones!) and all around unassuming, casual and fun vibe. We sat at one of the tables on the patio and was fun to watch people driving and walking by.
It was packed on Sunday morning as football games were abundant. The Mac nut French toast was nothing special like some reviewers have said but the Mai tai and Bloody Mary were delicious! Would go back for drinks but probably not to eat
Fish Tacos-5 star, service -5 star, Bloody Marys- 5 stars + a super nova. We will be back.

Far than good burgers! One of the best burgers I have had in a long time. I don't know why a lot of the reviews are bad here though. So first you get in this long line that took forever, then you order through the windows in the front. There are many kind of burgers you can get. Such as double meat, any way you want it to tell you the truth. The seating and the crowd is great there. You can sit inside or outside. Next to it there are also other tables in the shopping areas next to it if you need to. They call you for your order and when I got it it was all correct. Then I took a bite and it was perfect, better than I thought it was going to be. This place beats in n out and many places, if you want a great burger this is totally the place.
Burgers are so good and the onion rings are amazing! Staff is friendly and quick. The guy assembling the burgers is a machine! I've been several times and plan to go back again. Try it Bubbas way! As good as In and Out :)
Great friendly service. The young women behind the counter is clearly a happy and intelligent creature. I got the regular Bubba Burger with Cheese and an order of onion rings. The burger's are small but very good, and the price is excellent at $4. Considering what people charge for chow on Kauai, this is a gem. Check out all the stickers and signs in the indoor seating area - some hilarious stuff: "Spandex is a privilege not a right" "Beer - The reason I get up every afternoon" "No Sniveling"

I'm so glad we stopped! The hummus was some of the best I've ever had, and the caprese salad and sangria was fantastic. Great service and very good food (the whole menu looks great)! Also, not bad prices for the island. If definitely come back.
This is one of the best locations on the north side. Easy to miss but worth the find. Staff is friendly, specialty drinks are amazing. Compared to the rest of the island, the prices aren't bad at all. It's always worth coming back to.
I really enjoyed this place. We only stopped for a couple of drinks but the food on the menu and all the daily specials sounded terrific. The view of the ocean and over to Hanalei Bay are phenomenal and the breeze and sound of waves crashing throughout the restaurant were fantastic. I will definitely be back next time we're on Kauai to try some of the food and have another Kona Brew.

nice little dive bar. good atmosphere. they should carry vegan beer tho :)
Read the reviews for this bar that are "currently not recommended" at the bottom of this page. My review mirrors what theirs say. At least I'm not the only one! Don't know why people still come here. The live music was great so that's why I gave an extra star, but the service was so terrible. I understand it's hard to work in the service industry, but without guests there are no jobs. So suck it up and at least make an effort to be polite. We ordered a beer and the waitress brought it 30-45 minutes later. When we were surprised she said "what can I say- we're backed up!?" and yanked it back. I watched multiple people leave because the "niece of the original owner" would tap people and wave her hand, or literally move them. Paying customers should not feel like they are an inconvenience. This is a very poor business practice.
You know what I love? When restaurants clean the table before the next customer. Ours was super sticky. Apparently, cleaning tables is a novel concept at this restaurant. We barely saw our waitress. She looked like Anna Kendrick so maybe she was busy in the back making pitch perfect 3. However, she was nice and gave us some good recommendations. The pizza was good but nothing I'd rave about. Overall, it was average.

With all the food criticism shows on tv today and public awareness about quality places versus places that have issues, Calypso should be ashamed...We were very hungry when touring through Hanalei this past January 2013, so we stopped in. A bunch of younger female waitresses were walking around. It took about 10 minutes for one of them to approach and ask in an indifferent and nonchalant way if we wanted to order. I ordered a crab/ono wrap on the menu, my wife the fish and chips. As we waited and watched the sights, we saw one of the male busboys slap one of the female waitresses on the butt as she passed by and he laughed. Again in relation to common food shows on tv today - poor professionalism in direct sight of customers can mean that there are going to be other issues such as other unprofessional practices/food handling procedures in the back doors/kitchen area, where no one can see. At this point I knew we should have probably left but we really just wanted to eat something and move on to see more beaches. Suprise surprise, i ate the wrap which was bland and ok, but I don't recommend because: i got food poisoning hours later, the last two days were spent in comlete stomach/bowel agony. Took about 5 days total to get over. The seafood was obviously bad, unacceptable when fresh seafood is plentily available. So I don't recommend this place that has an air of unprofessionalism. Who knows if you'll stop in on a day when the food isn't safe. That could ruin your trip. If you have to go then just hang out at the bar, get a drink and chips or something. But in general, steer clear
This place is definitely worth going back to. Usually when a restaurant has the word Bar before Grill means that you should usually stick to the drinks and maybe appetizers because the Bar is where they want you to go. All the drinks I had were quiet tasty! We were there for Martini Mondays and I didn't leave disappointed. We sat at the bar and the bartender Jason was so polite & attentive. The hot wings are also pretty tasty! I would recommend this place for good drinks and appetizers.
Fell in love with the Loco Moco. Didnt sound to appetizing initially, but after the first bite....YUM!!

Loved the pizza here! If you're looking for a good pie on the North Coast of Kauai and you're in Hanalei town, I recommend Tiki Man pizza. Love the Kailua Pork they use in place of traditional ham / Canadian bacon.
People feel very strongly about pizza, and reviews are usually love it or hate it. Someone left a post-it note at the house we rented saying "BEST PIZZA! REALLY, GET THIS." We trusted them and were not disappointed. The crust was thin (I prefer that), sauce is good and not applied too heavily, cheese was yummy and tasted like parmesan was mixed in. At first I was taken aback to pay $44 for 2 pizzas, but then I did the math on eating out or grocery shopping to feed 9 people and it turned out to be a bargain. I was sad we never went back during our visit. You can even order here and eat it at Tahiti Nui! Service was a bit indifferent but it's not like they're waiting your table or asking for a tip.
Quick service, friendly staff and great pizza. It was no nonsense ordering and quality food. I got a pineapple &hawaiian pork pie. It has been one of my eating high points on this island.
