This place is totally great. On the quiet part of the North Shore in Kauai where bridges are too narrow for bus tours, and right near Tunnels beach and close to the Na Pali coast trek. Kirby and Toby are fantastic hosts, the breakfasts are fresh and super good, and the rooms are beautiful and comfortable without any of the overdone cheesiness and floral patterns that alot of other places have down there. You have full use of a huge nice kitchen so you can cook fresh fish and avoid the overpriced meals at restaurants. Big Jacuzzi and free snorkeling equipment. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Fantastic B&B with great views of the mountains. it is located in a less populated area, requiring a few one-lane bridge crossings to get to. it is near the haena state beach park, and the Ke'e beach and access to the na'pali coast. there is a designated parking spot for each room that is well marked. the grounds and building is very well kept. Toby and Kirby are great hosts, keeping conversation going during breakfast. the house is incredible, with an outdoor shower/hot tub, big bathrooms, private balconies, and plenty of hawaiian breezes. would recommend again!

love love love this place! Felt like home away from home! Toby and Kirby were wonderful hosts! Toby makes you breakfast each morning and always with a platter of fresh fruit. Kirby has many ideas of what to do and where, and seems to know everyone on the island. It felt like we were part of the community here and very welcomed. Location is perfect, we stayed in the guava room and could see and hear a small bit of the ocean from our lanai. Located in the most beautiful part of Kauai I think, near tunnels for snorkeling (they have gear you can borrow), near the Kalalau trail, and close to Hanneli. They also have wi-fi and no cleaning fee. The kitchen is free for anyone to use, but if it's you cooking, you clean. Hot -tub is huge.

My husband Seth and I stayed here about 7 years ago. I can't remember which room we stayed in, but we both still speak fondly of our trip there and would definitely come back if we make our way back to Kauai. The breakfasts were delicious (thanks to Toby), the house was beautiful and the room was comfortable and the hosts were the right combination of quirky and wonderful. Kirby was a dynamo and we enjoyed her hula dancing one evening. -Sonia

What a great time we had in Kauai. Thanks to Kirby and Toby for being such awesome hosts. We were fortunate for having the entire place to our group (4 couples) so that made things a lot easier for us to use common areas, etc. Kirby and Toby were very, very good hosts! If you are going to Kauai and staying in Hanalei on the north shore, this is a good place to consider. Clean, modern, and hospitable. We would definitely use them again and recommend to others.

After 4 nights at Hale Ho'o Maha my wife and I didn't want to leave. Toby and Kirby made us feel like family and had thought of everything. We stayed in the Pineapple room which is awesome--quiet and private with a huge, firm, round bed, a terrace, lots of windows, and a little bit of an ocean view. They made a different hot breakfast every morning for us and had lots of fresh island fruit. They have a hot tub you can use anytime, and tons of beach gear including fins, masks, and snorkels. They also arranged our car rental (getting a much larger discount than I was able to find) and had good tips on restaurants and trails on the North Side. We had such a good time here, we'd highly recommend it and hope we can come back.

This place really made our stay. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Toby and Kirby run the joint and do an amazing job. Their home is beautiful with great views and it's impeccably clean! My husband and I enjoyed the tail end of our honeymoon at the B&B. We stayed in the Papaya room. Every morning we woke up to fresh cut fruit and homemade dish from Toby. Kirby is full of information about the island, so make sure you get her talking! I can't say enough great things about this place. The location was perfect for us. 1 mile from tunnels beach and a little farther is Ke'e beach, a couple miles from the town of Hanalei. One thing, bring some ear plugs, the crazy roosters start crowing at 4:30am!

We had an enjoyable stay at Hale Hoo Maha! Toby and Kirby were great hosts. It was nice to have access to a full kitchen and grill, and be treated to breakfast every morning. The location is a couple of miles past Hanalei on the way to Tunnels Beach/the Kalaulau Napali Coast Trail. Car recommended to get to and from town and the trail/ various beaches. The room was very comfortable, and we enjoyed the lanais and the hot tub and outdoor shower. Rates were $220 in February 2015 - fair price, but at this time of year there are many more options in the surrounding area such as multiple bedroom condos for the same price. MAHALO :)

I stayed here for the first half of my 9 day Kauai trip and I wished I had stayed here all 9 days. This place was perfect. There's not too many place to stay on the north side unless you want to stay in richy Princeville or some other resort. It's located within minutes driving of the Kalalau Trail and other north side sights and is in a quiet, peaceful, scenic, tropical area. Great place to go for vacation and relaxation. Toby and Kirby were great hosts. The breakfasts were awesome...lots of fresh local fruit and a different entree each day. They were really helpful with tips and advice and, of course, great stories. Kirby helped us out a lot in getting helicopter reservations and made sure everything was taken care of. The entire grounds, accomodations, and public areas were really nice and well kept. I stayed in the Pineapple Suite which contained at least 20 distinct pieces of pineapple furniture, decorations, or beddings. They have a really funny macaw or parrot who apparently doesn't like females (if the person gets too close). It didn't seem to have any issues with me since I'm a guy as I got pretty close to it. I'm staying here every time from now on when I go to Kauai. (I just hope not too many people find out about it!)
