Finding a good chinese restaurant all depends on the Chinese food you grew up with. Some people like the American infused food such as Panda's and some like authentic food that you can find in China town. Golden wheel is a happy medium. There are many tasty choices to pick from. The prices are affordable as well. My favorite dish is the stuffed eggplant. Every time I go there and order taken out the waitress knows which is mine because of the stuffed eggplant. The waitresses are very sweet and attentive to your needs. I never have an empty tea pot or an empty water cup. When it comes time to go home they help you pack up your leftovers to take home.

One of my favorite places to go. The peking duck is awesome! I always base my peking duck experience by comparing it to theirs. The food is delicious and at a great value. Fed 9 adults and 3 kids for under $150 and thats after ordering quite extravagantly... Sizzling oysters, clams, shrimp... Totally worth the trip if you like peking duck or delicious food.

Portions are huge when you eat in only. When you order takeout its a waste of money they use mini plates and give only a regular plate when you order fried rice which was more like plain white rice. The food tasted greasy and like it was cooked in a pan that was not thoroughly washed just rinsed. Never ordering from here again! Bad experience!

Best place! I aboslutely love their stuffed eggplant. Lunch special prices cannot be beat. When I lived in HI, I ate here at least twice a month. This is a definite stop when I go home for a visit.

Healthly portions. What we had was ok. Maybe there are better items on the menu than what we ordered.

I just don't get it!! I have have read all the reviews and I just don't think the food is that great. I have gone there about 3 times now and the food I have gotten is ok but not the best. The customer service is excellent and they do serve you quite quickly plus its always nice and clean. Maybe I ll order something different next time because I m not having any luck getting the yummys everyone is talking about.

Been there before and the food was pretty good. This time we did take out and found 4 orders rather expensive. The food tasted good but there are other cheaper chinese restaurants which taste just as good...Golden Duck, Kahala and Mings on Waiakamilo. We had 2 orders of honey walnut shrimp and 2 orders of boneless minute chicken cake noodle.

Came in at 1030 on a Monday morning and unsurprisingly we had our choice of seats... Waitress immediately helped us and seemed happy to have us there. Lunch special was a good deal at $7.25 and was given an outrageous amount of food - minute chicken- loved it- get some! My wife loved their shrimp fried rice and she is a connoisseur of fried rice so I trust her (and verified that it was, in fact, fantastic). So - in short - friendly service, delicious food, great prices and large portions - you won't go wrong here.

I normally pass on the Golden Wheel because Chinese food has never appealed to me at 10:30am when I'm in the area & waiting for my niece's ballet lesson to end. Honestly, this place wasn't even my first choice. It was the default after finding out that my first choice was closed for the day. I'm glad I couldn't go with the familiar though, otherwise I wouldn't have fell in a food affair with this place. Seriously though, is it a requirement for all the food establishments at the Aiea Shopping Plaza (or is it Aiea Town Square?!) to serve delicious food in order to stay in the plaza?! If so, I'm glad! My Mom & I ordered the mapo tofu (wonderful blend of spices, heat, & nice chunks of tofu), minute chicken (best I ever had; crispy on the outside and very tender & tasty), and the beef chow fun (tender beef, tasty noodles). Everything was amazing... Including the service! While dining in, there were many people picking up take out orders & regulars who seemed to have a great relationship with Stella (who provided top notch service), which was def a good sign. With such a wonderful dining experience & very decent prices, I do anticipate returning for future meals!

Like everywhere else prices have gone up but taste is still the same. The cost of every entree was very reasonable so for long. I ordered the lunch combo which you can pick 2 entrees from the list over rice or chow mein. I got the lemon chicken and minute chicken over chow mein. I think they should give a little more chicken but both were delicious. Previously $6.75 now at $7.25. The lunch special is still the most worth it which also went up in price at $7.00. If you dine in then soup is included with the meal.

Let me just say, I would've gave this place 2 maybe 3 stars but my experience with them wasn't so great. First of all, I placed a phone order for my boyfriend and I, and they said our food would be ready in about 45 mins. Got there a little later expecting our food to be ready. Waited about 15 mins or so for someone to help us or even acknowledge us, then waited about hour and a half for our food to be ready (note, we ordered beef w/ vegetable, shrimp tempura, clam w/ black bean sauce and noodles). Every time we asked them how long more it would take, they always told us we're packing it right now. Everything that was going on seemed so unorganized, receipt all over the place, forgot who ordered what and everyone that was seated that was there before us was just sitting there with nothing to eat (from the look of it, it looked like they were waiting a long time) a couple people even walked out because they were waiting so long and other people who were serving them self water because the service was so bad. Anyways, food was okay. Not too bad BUT I FOUND HAIR IN MY FOOD. I was about half way into my meal and I find hair in one of my dishes. That just put a cherry on top of everything.

Our ohana love's coming here. The service from Auntie Stella and the rest of the staff is superb. She's like a one man operation out front, phone in orders, and cashing you out. While the rest of the staff are busy prepping and preparing the food. Our favorite dishes, consist of, minute chicken with cake noodle, salt and pepper shrimp, sizzling Mongolian beef, gaugee mein, crispy gaugee, ung choi with beef, and ginger chicken. So tasty and flavorful! Even my picky toddler love's it here! So that has to count for something, right? You can reserve tables for a gathering. They have two round tables that seat 10 on each. They have 5 or 6 square tables, that seat 4 people. Phone in order's are welcomed and average wait times are about 20 minutes. Give them a try and don't just take my word for it. Their style of cooking appeals to me and my ohana, and as long as our tummies are content, we'll be returning.

We come here about twice a month. It's usually not too crowded, and the service is really quick. When there are large groups there though, expect to wait. Our favorite is their scallop soup, but we recently tried their pork and watercress soup -- that was delicious too. We also like their pork hash with salted egg and chicken chop suey. Some dishes have a lot of MSG so ask for none if you're sensitive. Call ahead for takeout.

Caterpillar in the chow mein... Waitess said "sorry sorry I don't think they checked the vegatables.". Ruined my Easter Meal. Ended of vomitting outside restaurant.

  • Dee C.

I guess it's true... you get what you pay for. Lunch at $7.25 a plate yesterday consisted of lukewarm soup, which actually would have been tasty if served hot, pork that tasted about two weeks old, stuffed eggplant loaded with MSG, not too bad sweet/sour shrimp and lukewarm noodles. From reading the reviews I guess I was expecting a better experience. At least the place was clean. Oh, I forgot to mention that the eggplant, shrimp were both served hot.

The food here is very good and the portions are large. If you are the type to judge a book by its cover, you wouldn't even stop here, but if you listen to people who can get over that, you will thoroughly enjoy the food. They have a menu with hundreds of items. I are here on a Monday night after 7, and there were still people coming in to eat. Many of the customers were themselves Chinese, and of all age groups. If you are the type of person who thinks that Panda Express or any other mall food court is Chinese food, you will not like it here. The food is cooked to order and many of the items you see at the food court are not here, simply because they are American dishes. Having been to Hong Kong and mainland China, this food is authentic. I will definitely be coming back here to eat. Why four stars, limited drink selections.

Ordered the dinner plate and the opu with black mushrooms Dinner plate had crispy gau gee and won ton. Beef veggies, fried rice, chicken noodles, and sweet sour spare ribs. It was okay, not the greatest. About the same as any other dinner plate at a Chinese restaurant. The opu with black mushrooms was a nice surprise, I haven't been able to find pork opu any where except in Chinatown. The sauce was a little lite, could have used more pork stock. But it was plentiful. I ordered the opu, and that was what I got. Some places give you some opu, then fill the plate with veggies. This plate had opu, and lots of it. Place was clean, and air conditioned. Staff was attentive, but was a little slow will service. Asked if we wanted a refill on our tea. But took a while to fill it. Guess she got distracted, and then suddenly remembered.

This place is ok, not the greatest. Food came on time without waiting, wasn't busy. Food was kinda salty but yet I don't have anything to rave about.

We initially were going to another restaurant for take-out, but it was closed, so we decided to try Golden Wheel. As I saw the heaping servings that were presented on the tables, I was very disappointed when they only gave half the amount for take out for the same price as eat in: Cold Ginger onion chicken - 3 stars for the taste, 2 stars for the portion - I liked the flavor of the ginger onion sauce, but the chicken was a little old and pasty, and they only gave half of what all other chinese restaurants give. I thought they gave a lot when I opened the box, but I found that the bottom was filled with lettuce to make the chicken look a lot. We only had 8 pieces of chicken on top of a mound of lettuce with mostly white meat, that I couldn't really eat any of it since I only like dark meat. Eggplant stir fry - 3 stars - the eggplant was very soft, and a lot of sauce. It was ok, but not the best I've eaten Service - 3 stars - the staff was friendly, but how can they dupe a take out dish since they know I wouldn't see it entirely until it is served, and give only half the serving of what I paid for? A good place for a good serving for eat-in, but check your servings when taking out.

5 stars for the food. Minute chicken on fried rice is something you should definitely try when you come here. Comes out to about $8.50, which is a great price if you're just getting lunch or dinner for yourself. I would rate the service a 3, they don't seem very friendly.

  • Jenn G.

We called and ordered take-out at 8:30pm on a Friday. They took our order no problem. Once we got the food back to our place, we were disappointed with what we found. The Chicken in Onion and Ginger Sauce was a cold dish, and tasted bland and sad. My partner wished there was some way to have known, ahead of time, which were hot dishes and which were cold dishes. We know that Chinese food has both while American dining usually has little to none of that. He would have avoided it if he'd known. The Sweet and Sour Pork was also meh. I've had better. The Beef and Black Bean Sauce Fun was the best part. People are right to review their black bean sauce highly.

Besides the food being yummy and budget friendly I love their customer service. I come in there and the ladies know what I want. They are fantastic... One thing I gotta say about the reviews I saw...... Who calls 30 minutes before they close. How would you feel if I walked into your job 30 minutes before you left your job and made you stay late........ Smh........ I love this place it is one of the best Chinese restaurant on island

    (5)
  • Ally H.

I had dinner with friends here, and we all thought it was meh. Compared to the other Chinese places we've tried on the island, the portions were on the smaller side, and the flavors and textures weren't very impressive or fresh. The honey walnut shrimp seemed as if they were standing by for longer than they should have (versus hotly friend under the layer of sauce). Veggies were more limp. A pro is that they do offer a military discount.

Ever have a craving for some place, completely set your heart on it, and then it be closed/shut down? Well, that was me on Tuesday. I didn't realize Young's Kalbee would be closed and I was meeting a friend... it was our second attempt at Young's... it may never be meant to be. However, it forced us to try some place new. I am glad I did. It wasn't extraordinary Chinese food but it was relaxing and it wasn't as crowded as Young's would have been. We were one of two tables when we got there at 6 PM on Tuesday after Yelping our best option in Aiea Town Square. We took awhile to order so our waitress decided it was dinner time for herself as well. We ordered the splicy (according to the menu - spicy and sleek?) eggplant, sweet and sour pork (we had my baby in tow), kung pao chicken (also splicy), and char siu chow fun. My favorite was probably the eggplant. It had the most flavor and it was quite tasty. It wasn't as nice looking as the shiny eggplant at Mandalay but it did the job. The pork was alright, it was a bit tough but it was tasty as well. The chicken was probably the least liked out of all of them; I judge everyone's decision based on the amount left on the plate. It didn't really have any depth and it wasn't very flavorful. The chow fun was just okay. I was quite surprised when the rice we got was actually sticky and not your normal, non sticking together Jasmine rice. I am not a fan of Jasmine rice because it is impossible to eat with plastic, Chinese chopsticks! The service was decent. She filled our waters quickly... although my glass had a green onion stuck to it. I would come here again but not just because Young's is closed.

Everything is cooked in Oyster Sauce! How can anybody possibly enjoy this more than once? It all tastes the same. The Kung Pao Chicken, the Mongolian Beef, the Abalone, and even the vegetable sides -- all cooked in Oyster Sauce. Is there no spark of creativity here? Even Panda Express takes it upon themselves to make some unique recipes. On top of that, the Kung Pao "spiciness" was zero, except for a few flakes of chili pepper sprinkled on the top after it was cooked. And I mean a few flakes (I even asked for it to be extra spicy, but they didn't cook a single chili pepper with the food). Why anybody would pay these prices for this experience is beyond me. The least they could do is have a couple signature items they can call their own and put some pride into kitchen. As it stands, their name should be changed from "Golden Wheel" to "Brown Sauce Nightmares."

Have had lunch there several times and haven't been disappointed yet. I'm Chinese, am from here, and have been eating Chinese food all my life. The food here is good, the service is friendly and fast, and the restaurant is clean. Oh yeah, the prices are great. I'm a big guy that can put away a lot of food, and to find a place that can fill me up for less than 10 bucks, well, there aren't that many places that can do that. Someone on this site complained that everything was cooked in oyster sauce, lol. Duh, it's Chinese food. If you don't like oyster sauce, go to Burger King.

I've tried lots and I do mean lots of chinese restaurants here in Hawaii and I just can't find a place that makes better minute chicken on cake noodle than this little joint. The chicken is well marinated and perfectly crisped edges with tiny chunks of garlic. The noodles are wonderfully moist with flavor seeped into each one. Most cake noodles are almost raw or too crunchy on the inside. This place got it right..crispy on the outside, yet cooked perfectly on the inside. Their fried rice was ok. They only have scallions, and whatever meat choice you decide. The portion was huge, but the rice was bland. My son ate ate half of it, and he barely eats anything. I'll give them a bit of credit. Service is great! The owner/ waitress was very attentive to my kid's needs. She gave them a booster, smaller water glasses, smaller spoons all without me asking. I've tried a few other dishes 6 years ago. I enjoyed them then but i can't comment on them, since my 35 year old brain just doesn't remember. I will be back for more minute chicken on cake noodle....probably at least once a month =)

Seems like forever we've been going to Golden Wheel. Very good local-style Chinese food. The best deal is the weekday, non-holiday lunch specials: choice of entree with soup for less than $7. Order the same dish at dinner time and you'll spend $9 without getting the soup. But prices are overall pretty good since the portions are fairly generous. Our favorites here include lemon chicken, egg foo yong (better here than at our overall favorite local Chinese restaurant), and beefsteak with oriental sauce. Only one or two waitresses serve the entire place but they are very good at their jobs and check on their guests frequently.

Love this cute little Chinese restaurant in Aiea. It's clean, a little on the small side, but served by friendly staff. We went there to celebrate my mother's birthday a couple of weeks ago. We ordered the dinner plate, black bean chow fun, won ton min, roast duck, crispy won ton and fried rice. Quite a lot for a group of 4. When we arrived for dinner, it was absolutely empty. Cool, we thought. We sat down, but didn't order yet since we were still waiting for another family member to come from the other side of the island. Waiting for 15 minutes already, and people were starting to fill up. Hordes of groups started to come in. I started to get really worried. I signaled for the pleasant Chinese lady and asked if we could place our order since I was worried they were going to be inundated with orders soon. She said not to worry. Once our other party arrived, she would put in our order and it would still come out quickly. I was very doubtful of that. And I guess she could see it my face, so to make me feel better, she took our order, but made sure to let me know that as soon as our family member was close by, she would put the order in so the food would be nice and hot when he arrived. Another ten minutes later, and still more groups coming in, our other family member arrived in the parking lot. The lady put our order in and, I swear, 5-7 minutes after he sat down, the food began to arrive. It was piping hot, not too salty, crispy, not too oily and basically hit the spot. Hey, it's not the best Chinese restaurant, but they serve good and familiar Chinese comfort food. The won ton was nice and crispy with good meat filling. The black bean chow fun was doused with black bean sauce, which I like since I like black bean sauce. The dinner plate was super full. It took two people to eat it. And the roast duck, although on the smaller side, was tasty. The only thing that really lacked any flavor was the fried rice and won ton min. But maybe that's because we were already eating super savory food before we started on those. I love this place! Always leaves our family full and happy. I will make it a tradition to come down to this place at least every month.

Best Chinese food in Aiea. Taste and amount of dish satisfies the appetite. Really, for the dollar spent, you get your money's worth. I always take out from there when I have guests visiting. Be sure to stop and order their lunch specials when in the area.

This place definitely hits a high note when it comes to local chinese food. I came here this evening and ordered some of the favorites and the results were completely satisfying - as usual. hot and sour soup (more sour than spicy) $7.50 spicy eggplant (excellent) $7.75 almond duck (pressed ducks with a bright red sauce with sprinkled almond slivers on top) $8 beef and vegetable chow mein (good noodles with plenty of beef) $7.25 chicken and broccoli (good) $7.75 The waitresses were so friendly and did a fantastic job of keeping our water and tea filled. They were very busy with take out orders. This is by no means of LA/SF standards but good ol'local style.

My family and I have been going here for years! It's our go to Chinese place. We used to go to Aiea Chop Suey but just started going here for dinners at one point a long time ago. (Side note: if you've noticed a change in the food at Aiea Chop Suey, there's a new owner and they've changed recipes, etc. Heard it from the former owner herself) Lots of seating for a small place: 3 round tables and lots of square/rectangle tables for smaller parties. Service is great. They do their best to take care of everyone, even with just 2 hostesses and a full house. They also remember a lot of their customers who visit often. When I was younger, I loved the Shrimp Ala Canton. My family likes the Potstickers, cake noodles (seafood or beef broccoli), and wor (vegetables) wun ton min (classic, with soup, or with gravy). Take out orders are usually ready within 20-30 minutes of the order.

I love this place. I've been going here for years when my coworker Sharon brought me. Ever since then I've been eating at this restaurant. The ladies remember me and my family every time we go. I like to order chinese chicken salad with the sweet and sour sauce dressing on the side. They have very fast service and are very friendly. Sometimes we would get ten dishes and only pay $75. That is a STEAL. Always have left overs to eat later.

Not for me. Sorry! I can't say that someone else might not enjoy it but it made me sick, literally. I guess I am used to fake Chinese food from back home. My husband will eat anything and he wouldn't even eat the chicken he got. I forget what it's called but it's in the rest of the reviews as being really good. I wouldn't eat it either. It got three stars because the service was fine and I am not so sure it's just us and our taste as opposed to food just being gross. So maybe not take my review to heart.

  • Gagan B.

First and last time there- simple awful. I cannot fathom how this place has 4 stars. The cashew chicken is bland, the chow mien is disgusting and the sweet and sour chicken isn't anything special. By far the worst Chinese food I've had. Friendly staff though......

Decided we would try this Chinese Restaurant to see how it compared to Aiea Chop Suey. Ordered take out one night for dinner and was greeted by a smiling and welcoming waitress. We ordered honey walnut shrimp, beef broccoli, and chicken with cake noodle. Their food was okay. The chicken with cake noodle was a little salty, the honey walnut shrimp was good, and the beef in the beef broccoli wasn't cooked thoroughly. When we bit into it we saw pink middle. We ordered from Golden Wheel once and continue to order from Aiea Chop Suey.

I just don't get it. After reading all the 4-5 star reviews, I must have missed a memo or something. The rating I'm giving this place is based solely on this one experience. We found this place late in the day and saw the menu in the window. Hungry, in a rush and not looking for anything in particular, the Lunch Plate looked appealing; Beef with Vegetable, Chicken Chow Mein, Sweet Sour Spareribs, Crispy Fried Wun Ton and Steamed Rice, all for only $7. Not a bad deal. We seated ourselves at a table that was already set for two and were promptly met by our waitress with a couple of menus and a pot of tea. I have to admit that the service is fast, the food was there in a flash. Ohhh yeah! The food looks awesome. The Crispy Fried Wun Ton was hot fresh and crispy, the Rice was steaming hot - I can't wait to... That's the end of all the positives. My wife has a fancy for Chinese tea made with real tea leaves, but was let down by a single store-bought tea bag in a pot of hot water. The Chicken Chow Mein was decent on the outside, but the center was dry and tasteless, like they just balled up the noodles and poured sauce on top. The Beef was really tender but too chewy and a bit bland. This must be the first time that I ate all the veggies and left most of the meat. The Sweet Sour Spareribs were the most disappointing. Most of the pieces were embarassingly hard and dry. The portions were large enough that we didn't leave hungry (I lied, that's a positive). Although there was enough food left that we could have taken home, we didn't. Honestly, I can't see ordering that again in the future. So c'mon guys/ gals, where'd you hide the memo that says: stay away from the Lunch Plate? Seriously, I have much respect for Yelp reviewers and their opinions. Surely, we'll be back, and unlike this visit, we'll try dishes that others have recommended.

Came here after being turned off from the hectic parking in Chinatown. This place gets a four star for the... Spicy Eggplant (very very good! Not too spicy, just right with a sweet hint to it :) It's a huge portion of slice eggplant with sauce, and ground pork over it, yum. Attentive Waitress (always checking in and filling water) and Lunch specials over all the starches to choose from (rice, chow fun, cake noodle, mein...) Reasonable, if not best prices outside of the downtown area. Also, minute chicken is good. I had it over cake noodle, just because the yelpers recommended, but I think it might go better with the thick fun noodles. I try that combo next time I'm around!

Don't go here unless you are very familiar with oriental cuisine. Absolutely no descriptions of what the food is. My wife got the cashew chicken and it was as good as anywhere else. I got sweet and sour pork, not very good. I also got roasted duck, tastes like pork short ribs. Not impressed.

Okay, so if any-body's noticing.... we live in Aiea. Is it because a lot of my reviews revolve around restaurants in this little speck of a town, on a little speck of an island, in one great BIG ocean? Well... hell yea! I like my little speck area, and I Like all the foodie specks that abound here. You know... where ever you're at, you kinda know all the grub joints that surround you, and you find your comfort meals at different places, for different reasons, and tastes. Well that's me (us) ! All our little food speck-lets, suits us perfect. I dunno, could it be the convenience of not needing to travel hundreds of miles to get that "World Famous Strawberry Waffle" you crave? Or thousands of miles, and one time zone, for Pot Pies? ( you jus had to bring that up!!!) I'd tend to think so. It would seem that if we crave it.... POOF!... like some awesome magic trick it appears somewhere in Aiea. ( WOW, that was good, do it again!) So it's Mothers Day, and like every Mothers Day, every place on the planet is booked solid. But this year we flew under the radar, because my wife wanted Chinese, and like I said before.... POOF! So it's around 6:30 and the place is totally packed, if the sign said capacity 50 people, there must've had 90...easy! But again like magic, the terrific people there put together a few tables for the nine of us.... and let the feast begin! We didn't just order the normal ten course set dinner, no not us... we gotta make it special cause it's for all the Mommies. So we go around the table and say everyone chooses their fave, and we get two orders of each ( that mighta been a bit tooooooo much!) but hey the four mom's on the table deserve it... don't they? Of course!! Okay so check this sucka-out! and mind you these were double orders.... Spare ribs with Black Beans sauce, mmmm , Salt and Pepper Shrimp, wow, break off the heads grind the shrimps shell and all (holy moly) Pork Harm-Ha with Ung Choi, tasty pieces of pork in a slightly salty gravy, with crunchy veggies. Cold Ginger Chicken, I love putting all that green goodness on my rice. Roast Duck with bun, Wait we're not done yet!! Egg Fu Yong, Boneless Minute Chicken with cake noodle, all crispy chicken, crispy veggies,on a bed of cake noodle, smothered in a chicken gravy..... boy-oh-boy. Pork With Salt Cabbage.... the sweet with the sour ( as I wipe the drool!) Maybe we coulda settled for less food, but for all the "MOMS" out there... It's your day, and you deserve it.... right! The food.... all super tasty. Each dish tasted differently delish. The portions were huge ( even the single orders are big) the price totally reasonable. I had to back up the truck to load up the leftovers.... nah not really, but there was a whole lot of take out boxes. It's that little Chinese hole in the wall place that we all look for, and few of us find, and when we do, we tell the world on yelp ( aw heck, now I went and done it) Another good thing about the having really good restaurants near where you live, is after I'm done stuffing my face..... "POOF!" I'm in my recliner..... Did anybody see the remote!!!!!

Eat here at least once a month, great chinese food, not SF chinatown straight up style but overall a great meal on this side of the island. Duck Leg noodle in soup- WINNER Lunch special for those less adventurous-WINNER Minute chicken cake noodle-not bad at all Wat won tun mein/fun (gravy style) - GREAT Overall, a great place to take the fam, they know me there, as they know a bunch of their customers. Always a smiling face asking stuff like "where is your little one today?" or "you bringing food home for the family today?" Santi, you are right about the waitresses! So kind! Go check um out, I do pretty often.....

Simply stated, the food is consistently good. Prices are very reasonable. We're big fans of the House cake noodles. A good local place to take family and friends if you don't like getting all dressed up. Lunch specials are about $6.25 and can feed 2 people. I'm giving it a 3.5 even though we've been eating there for years.

I was in the area, and wanted to grab something to eat. Upon looking at the reviews I saw that minute chicken over fried rice was mentioned several times, so I decided to give it a try. First thing I noticed was the portion size, other than that the taste was bland and ordinary as you would expect from a regular Chinese restaurant. There are many other restaurants within walking distance, so if Chinese isn't your thing I would check those out instead.

Four people for under $40...how can you beat it? Especially for good Chinese. Hands-down some of the best Chinese I've had. The service was great and very friendly. The egg drop soup comes with every meal. It was clearly authentic, and I found myself wondering if I've ever had real egg drop soup before dining here. I was disappointed at first to see that sweet-and-sour chicken was not on the menu, which seems to be a custom-order in Chinese restaurants on island. But when I asked her if they'd make it, she said it would be no problem. The portions were more than generous (we all left with food to spare), the chicken was tender and not over-battered, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the egg rolls...some of the best I've ever had! And for that extra touch, when we got the check, it was written in Chinese. Doesn't get much more authentic than that!

The food is average, and the service is above average lol. I was surprise to see these Chinese ladies smile cause most Chinese restaurant, they're usually grouchy lol. The dinning area is clean and the lighting here is perfect too. Hoping the food will be amazing next time....will see

Anything with black bean sauce is awesome here. Portions are big. We are usually here on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday night and it's not that busy. Here once on a Friday and it was packed and it was still only one lady working the floor, register, and phone.

Been going here for many years and love it. Bustling, very friendly staff. Just fantastic food. Small place with that typical Chinese restaurant/diner look - big round tables for groups or smaller tables for couples/foursomes. Am always amused when we call for takeout and they answer in both Chinese and English. Your check will be in Chinese. :-) We like the: egg drop soup, chow mein, char siu fried rice I can eat by itself as a meal, scallops & Chinese peas, black bean sauce on anything, egg fuyung, lemon chicken, etc. etc. Have never been disappointed here.

Best place! I aboslutely love their stuffed eggplant. Lunch special prices cannot be beat. When I lived in HI, I ate here at least twice a month. This is a definite stop when I go home for a visit.

Not for me.

  • Bernadeth A.

Wow, awesome. Aiea town square has some gems. This is one of them. A no frills Chinese restaurant, that reminds me of china-towns in LA/SF. Everything is tasty, so I won't even mention the food. When we went there was one super friendly lady that was waitress/cashier/host all at once, and did a fantastic job, even with a relatively full restaurant. She spoke terrible English and took our orders with enthusiasm. My favorite part was when I asked if they had brown rice - she gave me the "are you crazy" look. Almost every Thai place on this island has brown rice, but the Chinese/Japanese joints do not. I wonder if theres some particular reason? But I digress - the service was great. Usually, Chinese restaurant = terrible service. Also, the portions are huge. For $8 dollars you can get the "Dinner Plate" which has more food that you could reasonably eat for dinner and not have to see a doctor. One thing I didn't find out: if they use msg. I will update next time I go.

Overall 3.5. We were at pearlridge and my mom was really craving for some salt and pepper pork so I yelped the closest chinese restaurant and got this place. We came around 5 or so on a saturday and we were the only ones there with another person waiting to pick up an order. We got what we came here for, their salt and pepper pork, shrimp fried rice, and duck with cake noodle. The pork was pretty good, my mom and dad liked it but doesnt beat her favorite one in town. The fried rice was good but ordinary, and the cake noodle was also good but also nothing spectacular. The only gripe was that the duck pieces were not really meaty, there were a lot of bony pieces so that wasnt so great. Overall, i'd come back to try their lunch plates if I was ever in the area and craving for chinese food.

I'm not sure but i think Art hit them on a bad day or something. the food was great there. I really enjoyed it. I had the mongolian beef, ma po tofu, sauteed eggplant and beef fried rice.. everything was absolutely great. Menu needs to have spell check run through it though.

Friday night GOLDEN WHEEL was for dinner and let's just say it was ONO! I rarely go eat from here since I live in Mililani, but my girlfriends parents live in Aiea and luckily, they ordered from here! I've always liked Golden Wheel since I like the taste of each of their dishes I order. That night, we ordered 4 dishes, the seafood house noodles and made it cake noodle, sweet and sour beef cabbage, almond chicken, and Chinese chicken salad. The house noodles with cake noodle is awesome; they give a ton of vegetables, a nice big piece of char siu, ample shrimp, and some SNOW crab. I was surprised that they added crab in the noodles. The price was worth it, it wasn't pricey as many would think it would be. The sweet and sour beef cabbage is really sweet and sour! The taste is very good and they give a lot of beef and wasn't skimpy on the beef as some other restaurants are. If you like sweet and sour, this dish is for you! This was the first time eating their almond chicken. I really thought the taste was good! It was not too salty had good almond flavor with hints of some spices (pepper I think). I would definitely order this again, because this dish is worth ordering again and again. The last dish we had was the Chinese chicken salad; this was not the first time I had it. I don't know why it's so good, but they give lots of chicken and almond slices. I don't know what they use for dressing, but whatever it is, it's light and not overpowering! I would say this salad is pretty healthy since it's not oily or soaked in dressing. If you're on a diet and craving something healthy at a Chinese restaurant, get this salad, you won't regret it! If you haven't tried Golden Wheel, try it, you won't regret it!

This is one of the places I crave most whenever I'm in Hawaii. Their cake noodle with choy sum and chicken is so delicious. I'm not big on soups, but their minced beef tofu soup will knock your socks off. Great service always and I never leave with a stomach ache (like most places in Hawaii that are heavy-handed with the MSG).

Finally I remember to write a review about this place that I've been going to for over 10 years. Their stuffed eggplant(s) (they add the "s") is great: pork hash stuffed eggplant, battered, deep fried and then topped with black bean sauce - yum! Their noodle dishes are loaded with goodies. If there's a negative, I'd say the crispy gau gee is a little skimpy. Hong tau cake noodle - da bomb! They have 2 10-person multi-course meals: (A) includes Peking duck for $169 and (B) is $159. No bar but you can bring in your own beer/wine/Chevis ("Here's to the Peking duck!") with no corkage fee. They do have a soda fountain. Parking up front is sparse so drive to the right near the soon-to-be demolished Aiea Library. :*( Pretty well kept and clean but it is a relatively small space. Bottom line: Good Chinese grindage and not too expensive.

I love this place. The crispy gau gee cake noodle is the best! I've grown up eating at this place since I was a kid. It will always remind me of my family. Their lemon chicken is also a winner. Other places around there come and go, but this place has always been there. Definately a must try if in the neighborhood and craving some chinese.

I really like this place, I'm addicted to their mongolian beef... yums! So tasty and the beef they use is great! The portions feeds two people and it's pretty damn good! My co workers go with the dinner special and they say it's very good. Parking can be a pain though but I have never eat in there, and to my surprise, it doesn't seem as dirty as most chinese joints. I think I'm going to try their hot and sour soup next time I go there, but it's so hard for me to stay away from their mongolian beef!

Wow! So, I've come here twice... the first time around, wasn't a huge fan, but they've definitely stepped it up a notch! :) Service was slightly typical of a Chinese restaurant, you know the "what you like?" We ordered a bunch of stuff! After being called a fatty indirectly, "dat a lot of food! *giggle* you a big man so you can eat," we hung out and waited for our food. What made me smile was when the server realized the kids were a little too short and went and got a booster chair and stacked another chair to make it high enough to where they could reach. The food came out and it was awesome! The peking duck was awesome!! The duck was done just right to where it just melted in your mouth! The Mongolian Beef (yes, I know this isn't authentic Chinese, but they serve it so I eat it! :) ) was awesome!! Cooked with just enough spice to make you tear up and want more! To prove I wasn't that big of a fatty, I didn't finish all the food; actually, I just couldn't they brought out SO much it was unreal!! I'd most definitely go back as my second time around was a lot of fun, really tasty, and didn't break the bank!! :)

Been here lots. The food is well prepared, delicious, depending on what you prefer. Service is excellent and it gets crowded. Even then, the service is wonderful. Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
