This was some of the best Mexican food I have tasted - and I've tasted a lot, having grown up in Southern California. The prepared-at-the-table guacamole was fantastic and well worth the price. My husband and I will definitely be back!

I ate here before and was less than impressed, but thought perhaps if I ordered something that was hard to screw up (like quesadilla) that it may not be so bad. Um.. I was wrong. I have never seen a quesadilla that had no cheese. Fajita chicken quesadilla was expensive at $11.95 and although it looked huge it was a chicken stain on a tortilla, with no more than a teaspoon of cheese and a TON of grilled onions. The guacamole can best be described as processed green slime and tasted about the same. When the waitress saw that I was leaving and the food was barely touched, not once did she ever ask if the food was ok. I will definitely not be coming back here again. They should take a clue from LaParilla, which is not that much further away

I've had more than my fair share of awful "faux" Mexican food and sometimes get lucky and have pretty good Mexican food. Very rarely I stumble upon a place where the Mexican food is fantastic. Las Colinas is one of those rare places. We had two of their lunch specials (Huevos Rancheros and the Chicken Soup). Both dishes were absolutely perfect. The service is prompt, friendly and professional (our server, Jeanneth, was great!). The restaurant itself is super clean and parking is easy on the street outside. Prices are super reasonable. Can't wait to go back to Las Colinas again...soon.

Decent food, pitiful service. The young lady that was my server has a lot to learn. Very inattentive. She seemed friendly enough, though. She would disappear for ages at a time though. And her other tables were across the room. I ordered my combo with beef taco and chicken enchiladas. It arrived with all beef and I didn't notice before she disappeared. I had eaten the taco and still had to flag someone down to go find her. On a positive note, when she brought the plate back, there was also a new taco, but I'm sure that was a mistake. Again, had to get the hostess to refill my drink. When my waitress brought the check, she was gone again. Waited a long time before she came to collect payment. I may return to give someone else a chance, but no time soon.

Another great meal at Las Colinas last night. We were seated right away even though it was a busy Tucker Day. Nikki our server was excellent and we enjoyed the fajitas and also a steak dish called Arachera. We had so many left overs we filled two to go boxes to take with us. All of the servers and management are friendly and always recognize us when we come in and smile. We look forward to returning!

Stopping in here prior to hitting the Tucker Farmer's Market is a must!! Definitely recommend house margarita with Gold Tequila! Also go for the guacamole with table dressing! The staff prepares the guacamole right at the table with quite a show and presentation! During the cooler months enjoy sitting outside! People watching is a blast! I look forward to returning for a night out with family and friends!

This is my favorite local mexican spot. It's an inexpensive, comfortable, tasty spot. The staff is friendly, they gave good weeknight deals (taco tuesday, happy hour, etc). It's not fancy, but it's easy going and easy on the wallet.

This place is terrible. The service was poor, the food tasted like it was cooked by Kroger or Publix frozen food section. Im a guac addict and I couldn't even eat one tablespoon full. The waitress didn't bring my change, didn't even say thank you, didn't even.ask if i had menu ?s and then walked away when i started talking...one w her face pierced. Just horrible experiences time and time again and will never ever return.

This is a great local place. The owner always stops by to say hi to us and asks us how our meal is. Good food and quick service!

You can find Las Colinas Mexican Grill in the heart of Tucker on Main St. It's nearly directly across from Local No. 7 and slightly down the street you'll find Matthew's Cafeteria across the railroad tracks. When Rotagilla closed a few years ago I was hoping for something interesting to take its spot - Rotagilla was a cajun restaurant (Alligator spelled backwards, get it?) that featured live music on weekends - the food wasn't bad but for some reason it never garnered much of a following in Tucker. I may have been for the very excellent CAMP that was in the same spot previously and the Cafe at Main before that, a great breakfast spot (I still haven't found a replacement for the Tucker 8). In any case, when Las Colinas opened I thought "Gee, what we need, another swag-Mexican restaurant." Not that Las Colinas is horrible, but with Los Hermanos serving up such good food nearby I couldn't fathom how Las Colinas would survive - and somehow it's done just that. The restaurant occupies a rather unusual structure that appears to have been at one time something of a retail space - there's a window that juts out that's crying for some visual merchandising, additional widows on either side and some interesting access points along either side (read that as entry doors) - this place was made to display your latest in clothing-dressed manikins or similar. The interior is just as chopped up, with several floor levels and odd nooks-and-crannies for tables and weird seating arrangements. When it was a cafe it was a bit more acceptable and provided some character - as a Mexican restaurant it's just weird and awkward. The menu here is fairly extensive with most of your usual Tex-Mex, heavily Americanized dishes. I've tried a few items and nothing was really a standout, other than the Molcajete (more on that later). The salsa is fairly bland, the chips a little on the stale side and they have these giant margaritas for those so inclined - actually I think those are the best thing you'll find here. As for the Molcajete - this is basically a bucket of steak, chicken and shrimp with roasted peppers, tomatoes and a cactus leaf, covered in melted cheese. You fish about for the goodies that you spread on tortillas before stuffing your face - and indeed, that's what this dish will entice you to do. It's a bit greasy but you only live once, right? The service here was a bit lackadaisical - the servers seemed to want to be anywhere but at your table. Prices are downright cheap. The food fairly mediocre - I'd normally give it 2/5 stars but I'll bump it up to 3 for the Molcajete. Manana! (Also posted to my food blog, with photos)

Sorely disappointed by my visit here. Place was empty during peak dinner hours Friday night, and now I know why. Food was actually ok, service was pretty terrible, but worst of all, the margaritas were a joke. Ordered a $20 pitcher of margaritas and there was about as much tequila as you would expect for a single glass. What kind of Mexican restaurant can't make a decent margarita?! The same Mexican place that's empty on a Friday night....

Las Colinas is a typical Tex-Mex restaurant located on Main Street in Tucker, GA, practically across the street from the Local No. 7, the subject of my last review. The restaurant itself is just the right size for such an establishment - not too big, not too small and with a nice, cozy feel to it. It does, in my opinion, create a better atmosphere for enjoying a few margaritas over many other area Mexican restaurants which are either completely hectic or bland and sterile. The food is fairly par for the course for this type of fare. The tacos, chips, salsa, rice, burritos and so on are about as good, no better or worse, than any decent Mexican restaurant. One small positive detail I should add is that they aren't greedy when it comes to putting cheese on the tacos. There's always plenty and I love that. If you enjoy Mexican food, you'll enjoy the food here. If you don't or you're ambivalent about it, you likely will not. So, Las Colinas is a pretty good, serviceable Mexican restaurant with an atmosphere conducive to fun and drinking. However, there are two things about this establishment that are obnoxious and bizarre. The first is that there is a $1.75 charge for additional chips and salsa. This doesn't affect me since I rarely go past the first batch, but it's something I've never seen a Mexican restaurant do before. The second is that there is a $.25 surchage on to-go orders. It's only a quarter and I don't mind paying it, but that is exactly the sort of nickel and diming that will aggravate customers and cause them to write negative a review or take their business elsewhere. Finally, Los Colinas remains a decent Mexican restaurant that faithfully fulfills its function. It isn't worth driving across town for, but it is worth going for lunch or drinks after work should you live in the area. Pros: Serviceable food, cozy atmosphere. Cons: Silly surcharges. Verdict: Recommended.

Yup.... This place was a winner. Relatively inexpensive pitcher of margarita made with the good stuff.., and go ahead, mix those flavors. No additional charge!

Mediocre at best. I've been here several times with a friend who swears by their margaritas. Yes, they're pretty good. The food is decent, but the service could improve. I prefer eating at Los Hermanos which I believe has superior food over Las Colinas.

  • James D.

This place has devolved into "microwave" mexican. The tamale was not a tamale, but some beef wrapped in a corn tortilla and nuked. The chile relleno was lukewarm; the cheese didn't even melt. Sad. I won't be back.

Another Mexican Grill opens in the small town of Tucker, GA! I know of two others less than 5 miles of this place, which I've tried. Food at all the places are good. I was out for lunch with "the sister" and we were craving for Mexican food so decided to try Las Colinas since it just recently opened. I've heard of them before, which is the main store off Covington Hwy in Lithonia. Appetizers: We had complimentary chips and salsa -- not sure if they'll continue doing this or they're just doing it for their grand opening. Entrees: I stuck with the basic 3 beef soft tacos with cilantro, onions, and hot sauce. It was delicious. My sister ordered this deep fried wrap with chicken in it. I tried it and didn't really like it. It was too greasy, but then again more of preference. Overall, we both enjoyed our food, but we've had better. We'll most likely be back to try more items such as the fajitas and quesadillas.

Try to frequent Tucker businesses. Can't say this is one we will try again. Chips were really oily tasting. That's OK as it kept us from eating too many. Food came out quickly and perhaps should have had a little more time to prepare itself. The taco meat looked and tasted like ground turkey but was supposed to be beef...don't want to know. Vegetarian dinner contained overcooked glop. The rice was hard from either not being stirred and allowed to dry out or...never mind, don't want to know. Beans were tinny tasting as if just plopped from the can. I know most restaurants use canned beans but they don't usually taste like it...curious. Texas margaritas were cloyingly sweet and for the first time in history, well ours anyway, we did not finish the half pitcher. We were afraid a diabetic coma would ensue. Overall not good.

I was disappointed to find out the new restaurant for this spot was Mexican -- there are already several Mexican restaurants in the area. Was hoping for some diversity. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a try after seeing molcajete on the menu. -Texas margaritas - OK but not the best -Guacamole - very good, needed to add salt but was freshly prepared in front of us -Salsa - mediocre, watery -Molcajete - Decent but not the best I've had. Zapata's in downtown Norcross serves much better. -Ambience - OK. T-shirts on the wall are tacky. -Customer service - Meh. Our server was new and not yet knowledgable about the menu. She didn't even know if there was tequila in a margarita! Come on.... With other better Mexican restaurants in the area, I would not be very likely to return.

The tucker area was in need of a great Mexican Restaurant. The food is so good. I've been several times since they have opened. Once thing I've noticed is that portions are as BIG as they where when they first opened. The steak is so good....and the drinks are usually amazing. Great prices, and atmosphere. Oh I love their shrimp too, they serve them as bob sticks.

  • Jessica D.

Eh. It's ok. The salsa, though more or less acceptable, had never even been in the same neighborhood as anything spicy, and the rice is bland city USA. The chicken taco I had was decent, even if the shell did come out of a box. The enchiladas raised a deep philosophical question for me: if I didn't know what enchilada sauce was supposed to taste like, would I like these enchiladas? Unfortunately it's a bit of a moot point: I do know what enchilada sauce is supposed to taste like, and that sweetish, tomato-forward concoction ain't it (though it's probably popular with the natives -- the Georgia natives, that is). I dunno. Just overall disappointing for this SoCal expat.

Tried Las Colinas once again a week after my initial visit, and ordered the same thing, the lunch chicken fajitas. This time, I ordered a side of guacamole, since the fajitas last week only came with about a teaspoon of it. Had I been served more of the guacamole with last week's meal, I would have noted it is pretty much a puree, not chunky at all, and lacks depth. I would have liked to taste (or visualize) some cilantro or onions in it, but it's just a bland, green paste. You do get a generous portion of chicken, veggies, and tortillas (3) with the fajitas, but today it, too, was bland. I was eager to dig into the rice I enjoyed so much last week, but, alas, the kitchen was on a roll and the rice was bland, also. I do like the salsa, and added it to everything on my plate to make it edible. Maybe it was an off day - but I am not sure I will be back.

We found Las Colinas on Scoutmob. It was about on par with other Mexican restaurants in the area. My husband got the steak fajita nachos which were very good. I got vegetarian fajitas which tasted great, but the vegetarian fajitas are nothing special - just a giant pile of very greasy onions and peppers - delicious but not very creative or well-prepared.

I went with three coworkers for dinner Wednesday night. The service was very friendly and attentive. The jumbo margaritas really hit the spot :-) I ordered the vegetarian fajita quesadilla. It was pretty big, and the veggies inside tasted good. I was sad that it wasn't served with any sour cream or guacamole or anything like that. Nevertheless, I'd probably go back if I was craving Mexican food. $8 for the margarita and about $8 for the quesadilla - Can't beat it!

If I can give a negative 1 review I would... I came here for the first time and it was not a great one. It started out by me ordering a 10piece wing meal and a drink. The waitress came back and told me the kitchen was out. How the hell can a kitchen/ restaurant not have enough food to serve there guest??! Secondly when the waitress came to bring my drink, she spilled it! Neither did she say sorry or offered to clean it up! I was getting more and more upset! I asked her if she could give me something to clean it up. Lastly I asked to speak to the manager and told him that it was my first time and I'm not having such a pleasant experience. There was no food in the kitchen I ordered and the waitress doesnt have customer service skills. All he could do was say sorry you feel that way. I will not give this place another chance.

This was some of the best Mexican food I have tasted - and I've tasted a lot, having grown up in Southern California. The prepared-at-the-table guacamole was fantastic and well worth the price. My husband and I will definitely be back!

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America.
