This is a place that we've been looking to try for a while and since I had a gift certificate from Restaurant.com we decided to give it a try. Some friends of ours that live in the area had recommended this place, and given that it won an award as the Best Italian Restaurant in 2010 and the write ups about Chef Jeff, we were looking forward to our visit. It went downhill shortly as we arrived. The place is not big but had ample space. The decor was notthing special. It wasn't overly busy but we did have to wait for a table to we decided to have a glass of wine at the bar (they only serve beer and wine). There were dirty dishes on the counter, loose receipts scattered about, and nobody bar tending. A gentleman finally came over and was able to take care of our wine order. As others arrived at the restaurant they just clamored around the entrance. Maybe they knew better than to come to the bar! When our table became available we went to pay for our wine and the waiter who had poured our wine said he would transfer the charge to the table. That was good. The funny thing was that same waiter took us to one of his tables. I guess he was a jack of all trades! Before we went to the restaurant we had looked at the menu online so we had an idea of a few entrees we wanted to try. We inquired about any specials, but there were none for the night. My girlfriend decided to order the baked ziti florentine and I ordered the shrimp scampi. We figured those were two pretty easy dishes for any Italian restaurant to master. Before our meals arrived we started off with the salad bar and bread. The choices at the salad bar were very limited, but that was okay. The bread was terrific. It had a nice crust on the outside and came with roasted garlic and olive oil. A nice compliment to the bread. So far so good, until our entrees arrived. I will say the ziti was the better of the two. It had some flavor and lots of cheese. The scampi was as bland as bland could be. The only way I saved it was by pouring the olive oil and garlic, that accompanied the bread, over the scampi. It was almost as if they made the scampi and poured the spaghetti noodles over the top and it washed off the seasoning as it drained. The frozen scampi from Gorton's in your grocer's freezer is far better! As we continued to finish our meal we observed Chef Jeff imerge several times from the kitchen but he never engaged any of the customers. The entire wait staff seemed to take his lead. They were all over the place but disorganized. It was like a Chinese fire drill. I'm all for giving a restaurant a second chance. Everyone can have an off night. However, from our experience we won't be back. I don't want to see any restaurant fail but whoever voted for this place as one of the best in 2010 must not have had many choices. BTW, if you look at the reviews from the majority of the people who took the time to do so, there is a constant theme here. Hopefully someone from the restaurant is paying attention and will improve.

Poorest excuse for Italian food. First and LAST time eating at this place. Noodles in my lasagna and my daughter's spaghetti were gummy mush. My tomato sauce in the lasagna tasted metallic like straight from a can. We couldn't eat more than a few bites before saying enough was enough. Waiter asked if everything was ok (seeing the full plates to the side). My answer was well the salad and bread was good. His response was "good", then brought us our bill. No sorry, no taking anything off the bill, NOTHING! We were so disappointed.

Kind of a dank little hole on the wall. Not very impressed. Food was just okay and in my opinion over priced. Waitstaff but my order in wrong and he didn't refill my empty glass. The bathroom was dingy and all in all I was unimpressed. Boca de beppo "located at the Augusta mall is 10x better. Priced slightly higher but you won't get dry chicken that tastes old.

I have eaten here many times. Very good food (usually). Clean. Excellent service! A place to take a date or loved one.

I think This place has great potential but unfortunately the food was way too salty. The complimentary bread served with olive oil looked great but was so salty we couldn't eat more than a few bites. The entrees baked zits and clams spaghetti with white garlic sauce both looked great but again we're terribly salty. I must admit the high sodium gave me high blood pressure afterwards. The other complaint is their marinara sauce tastes metallic and straight from a can. I am still giving this place three stars as I think it has potential. I really hope the chef reads this and lowers the salt in his recipes. I am willing to give this place another try and will ask their to go easy on the salt

Found our new italian joint. Staff was friendly and informative. I did the lunch buffet- great salads and simple italian dishes - no flair, but it's a buffet so get over it. My wife and son enjoyed two very tasty a la carte dishes as well and ended it with a homemade triple chocolate cheesecake. We started with the bruschetta quattro which was simple bread, toasted, but the four spreads were GREAT!

Wow a real surprise! Everyone seems to be next door at Toki but this place has excellent Italian food. Plus the $10 for $20 of food coupon didn't hurt. Started out with a whole loaf of focaccia and a plate of seasoned olive oil with several whole cloves of toasted garlic. I had the chicken piccata which was PERFECTLY cooked. Husband had baked ziti which he loved. Kids actually split the kids size spaghetti and meatball because it was HUGE (better be for $8.99). I added soup/salad bar and it was AWESOME. nice gumbo, leafy greens, and try the pear and fig dressing. Mmm mmm!

We ate here while in the area and we were pleasantly surprised. Located in a little strip mall, it was excellent. I had the chicken and spinach in a light fettechine sauce that was excellent. My husband had the shrimp in a light blush sauce which was also delicious. Only thing that could have made it better would be to get a salad with your meal. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive even though she was extremely busy. We will definately return when in the area. Kudos to the chef!!!

If you have celiac disease don't trust their gluten free dishes. On several occasions they have given my daughter regular pasta and we have had to send it back or worse drive back because we got her takeout Their staff is not well trained in the importance of gluten free and must not have any protocol to insure GF is being served. Very disappointing because for her the food is good. We have decided we can't return since they failed to correct this after several incidences.

I was with some friends from Aiken, SC who had a coupon so we gave it a try for lunch on a weekday before heading over to the nearby Costco. It was an enjoyable experience. We all had pasta dishes that were above average but not great. Ample servings meant taking enough home for eating later that evening. None of it was as seasoned as I like but it was good enough to try again. Chef Jeff came out and entertained us with his story of how a Rhode Island restaurateur wound up in a Georgia suburb with a second job as a pastor at a local church. No kidding.

Don't get suckered into going here (like I did) just because they put out coupons! This was the worst "Italian" food I've ever eaten! I LOVE garlic so I was excited to eat here thinking that the food must be loaded with garlic flavor. Wrong! Not only did it not have garlic taste, it had NO taste period! I ordered the Beggar's Pouches thinking, "Oh cool, they make their own pasta." Blech! The pouches/pasta was disgusting and the sauce on top had absolutely no taste. The people I was with had dishes that were subpar as well, but because their dishes had marinara sauce there was at least gave SOME marginal taste to them. I mean, come on, it's pretty hard to make any tomato-based sauce unflavorful. On top of that, the prices we paid (even with the coupon) were way too inflated for that food. We're in Evans for crying out loud!

This place is tucked away an a little strip mall behind a hardware store. The only reason I went there was because it was close to my house...and I was starving. It's a basic, simple, mom and pop type, Italian place. The menu looked pretty good, with all of your basic Italian needs. Since it was lunch time, I just wanted something pretty light. The super nice hostess recommended the pesto pork tenderloin on cheesy garlic bread. It did not disappoint! It was delicious! The pork was very tender and juicy, pesto was spot on! The bread that it was on was very flavorful. My only complaint is that there was a bit too much olive oil on the bread. But after some blotting with paper towel, it was good to go. Will likely be back to try some of the other dishes!

The food was tasteless. I've never had to season my salmon at an Italian restaurant prior to tonight. The vegetables were over-boiled as was the pasta. Seriously, how do you screw up pasta? If you want to know the answer, ask the cooks at the Garlic Clove because they've apparently figured it out. Service was great, though, but it's not enough to make me want to return. This place could really benefit from Robert Irvine's Kitchen: Impossible show.

Ate here twice past 4 weeks. Food is very consistent. Portion generous, you can order the half order or full order and have leftover for lunch. Menu has lots of selections. The loaded nachos was a hit as an appetizer. The fried calamari was just OK. The salad & soup bar for extra $2.99 is a deal. We didn't get the bar the 2nd visit because it was just too much food after the appetizers & entree. The place is always busy, and we saw the chef/owner walking the floor & talking to customers - nice touch. Great option beside Carrabba's and Olive Garden; better than OG but a tad below Carrabba's, in my opinion and personal taste.

Stop, turn around and run!! You don't want to eat here! My wife and I ate at the Garlic Clove a few years ago when they were still in the strip mall by the Evans Walmart. It was a very nice dining experience with white linen table cloths, excellent food and excellent wait staff. Boy were we shocked when we walked into their new location by Ace Hardware. Cheap furniture, plastic flowers and a decor left over from the previous owner. We should have left when we saw the salad bar that was half empty with food that appeared more than a day or two old. But we plunged forward and ordered the calamari for starters. Mistake number two. It was obviously frozen and was still cold when served. As you can guess, it was so rubbery it was I inedible. Mistake number three was ordering dinner. I had the baked Ziti and my wife had their special which was fish. The pasta was cold and over cooked and meat sauce had obviously come out of a can. My wife's fish was mealy, tasteless and you guessed it, cold. Neither one of us could take more than two bites of our food. To say we were disappointed would be a gross understatement. If the food was free, we would not return. On the bright side, the bread was okay and our waitress was friendly.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. Service was awesome! And the food was delicious. My husband is normally super picky when it comes to steak in a restaurant. Nonetheless, he decided to go with the steak and mushrooms for dinner. It was amazing. The salad bar is a little small, but perfect when accompanying a meal. I was surprised that it had 3 different soup selections and was unlimited (even as a supplement to an entree). I enjoyed a great glass of wine for dessert and we had the lasagna sticks as an appetizer (also yummy). All in all, I was really happy we tried this place out, and we will definitely return!

Spaghetti and meat sauce was just about tasteless. Thank goodness they had planty of cheese; it gave it some flavor. Pricey for what you get.

In my experience, this is easily one of the best places for Italian in the area. I am surprised there aren't more reviews here, but ...then again, I am always surprised that the place isn't packed all the time. Despite being next to the Evans WalMart, I guess people don't know about it? If that's not it, I have some un-complimentary words for the people of Augusta =p Indeed better than Olive Garden and Guiseppe's [I've got no problem with either]. Also, it's one of very few places in the area that takes Restaurant.com gift certificates. I think the prices are perfectly reasonable as-is, the fact that one can use Restaurant.com gift certificates... completely defeats any misgivings about price.

I've been seeing ad's about this place so I figured I'd give it a go. Couldn't make up my mind because I was so effing hungry so I snagged the lasagna. Regardless I felt that the menu didn't have much variety and it contained the typical staple Americanized versions of Italian food. I didn't wait too long, the service was pretty standard and the waitress for whatever reason kept apologizing for ignoring me. In the end, the food was decent and I was satisfied with the price I paid for it. Pros: *Military Discount *Big Plates! Come hungry Cons: *Take a date here to prove to him/her that you're boring *Not authentic Italian food in the least bit

There were four of us and we were all disappointed in the food. It was either lacking taste or too salty. The young waiter was nice enough and attended to our needs, but as mentioned in another review, "it was like a Chinese fire drill" with wait staff running around...we will give it one more try and have the pizza.

So glad we discovered this place! Have been 3 times now, and every time was excellent. We almost didn't go, due to the reviews, but glad we did. The food is excellent. And their pizza! I'll never eat chain restaurant pizza again! And the place is quiet so we could actually carry on a conversation at the table! (Good selection of wine, too.)

I really wanted to like this place, I did. But, alas, I cannot. I got a gift certificate from restaurants.com and decided to try it out. The service was prompt, but polite, it was not. The guy had ZERO personality and did not crack a smile once. The food did not look or taste fresh. I have no idea if it was frozen or microwaved or whatever the case was, but it wasn't very good. My friend had the chicken picatta and I had the grilled salmon, nothing to write home about. I cannot say that I would return to this place. I don't want to trash it by any means, but the quality was just not there.

I don't know how it could be better. It is real home cooking. Simple and fast. And, the quality is pretty good. I like the family atmosphere, and the owner is a real good guy. They have unique menu where you can build your own pasta meal. They are reasonably priced too. I think they hit the spot in the Augusta/Martinez/Evans area.

EEEWWW! Frozen Lasagna is better and significantly cheaper. Way over priced and not good AT ALL! Save your money.

Really the best Italian restaurant I have been to. Better than Olive Garden and many others I have been to. It is a little pricey, but it is worth it. You won't leave the restaurant disappointed or unsatisfied. You will leave the restaurant with a smile on your face. This restaurant is good for many occasions. A nice date, big family get togethers, or simply a nice dinner for anybody. You will want to go back there again and again.

So, I just came home from the restaurant determined to share my opinion of the place. First of all, let me say, that this is not a super critical approach, I am aware that in this region of GA, this may be seen as one of better restaurants, but this eatery is not good at all. I have ordered Shrimp Pesto, and I got the spaghetti which were not cocked at all, but were rolled up in knot. Really weird. Of, course, I sent it back and I got the meal much better than the previous. That pissed me off, because the Chef Jeff was in the house and did no quality control of the food leaving his kitchen. Ok, so I had a little of the pasta, portions are HUGE, it makes no sense. So, the whole time, Chef Jeff, is sitting at the bar and talking to his staff, while the guys cooking pasta have never heard of "al dente" and serve the pasta overcooked. It is so embarrassing, given that this chef was a personal chef to some important characters during the Golf Masters. This clearly shows, that either he knows nothing of Italian cuisine, or that he doesn't care for his customers. Ok. So I order a cappuccino. Alas! After chef figured out how to work it, he did not put espresso shot in it. Yes, people, he tried to lie and say he did, but you know, when there is no espresso in a cappuccino , then you taste only-----MILK! Chef of an Italian restaurant can't figure out a Cappuccino??? Give me a break! Yes, I paid for it, the whole dinner cost us two, with one appetizer and two main courses, vino and Il Pelegrino----50 dollars. Don't waste your money. You will be sorry. If you need to eat in Augusta, go downtown, because the garlic clove eatery does not deserve to be titled "Italian" nor "eatery"! Auch! On the other hand, I liked that the pesto alla genovese was made from scratch (I am 90% sure). It was nice. However, with overcooked pasta, it was a mess!

My wife and I had seen that restaurant while we were driving around Evans. It was closing and we decided to visit another time. We were in the area a few weeks later and decided to try it. I must admit that we never made it to any prospects of getting food. We gave them our names and were told it would be just a few minutes by Chef Jeff. Cool. We sat down and waited until we were called. A few minutes later another couple came in and waited until someone came to the front counter. Low and behold!!! They were immediately seated. They did not have reservations and they were dressed like slobs. How insulting! If you've ever been here you will know that the waiting area is directly in front of the front counter. That was all it took for us to not try this place. We were looking forward to trying the food but if the service presented itself in such a manner in the first five minutes then we most likely saved ourselves from a major disappointment. We ended up going down Washington St. and ate at Mai Thai. It was very good, we were seated immediately, and the service was excellent.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
