I ordered 2 flavors and ended up giving both away because they taste terrible. They also seem like they're too thick. I've gotten better product from the grocery store. Expensive way to waste your money.

We stumbled on this place by accident today. I'm a gelato freak, so I coerced my husband into going in at 11:30 in the morning-- a full half hour before they supposedly open-- and they were open. It looked pretty new and I was a little dubious but the nice woman behind the counter offered to give us samples. It didn't say anything about being organic or all-natural but I took a chance and wound up with the orange creamsicle flavor which I have to say was quite tasty. My husband got a coffee flavored gelato cone and said it was good. It's certainly not the best gelato I've ever had and the flavors could be a bit more imaginative but overall, I think it's very decent and I was happy to find it amid the gross Bresslers and Kilwin's choices on the same strip. They do accept credit cards, but it's a $5 minimum purchase. And I won't lie-- the prices are a tad inflated for a product that isn't listed as organic. As a side note- downtown Venice could really use some sprucing up! There are no modern shops at all. I couldn't believe some of the crap being sold in the stores on Venice Ave.

For gelato in the states it's not bad, but now that I've had gelato in Europe it is hard to compare. Here's my take on some of the flavors: the mango is good, the blueberry is bland, the coffee flavor tasted burnt, tiramisu tasted too much like liquor, oreo was too similar to just plain cream, cherry was quite good but could have used more cherries. They do get a plus for letting you sit there and try as many flavors as you want.

Excellent gelato. I agree with the other reviewer that I had better gelato in Italy, but for gelato in the U.S, it was pretty darn good. I had the lemon, which was wonderful, although a little sour by itself, so would recommend mixing with another flavor. My Grandma had the vanilla and loved it. I've also had the oreo which tasted exactly like the middle of an oreo cookie. Very creamy. I tried a sample of the tiramisu and thought it was a bit odd -- so I'd recommend taste testing before ordering.

Visiting my boyfriend's parents new place in Sarasota, we took a field trip to Venice to check out the scene. We had a good lunch at Jackson's American Grille down the street (see review) and headed to Ciao Gelato for dessert. It had outdoor seating(which you can't see in the photo) the sign was cute and the interior was clean and shiny. They didn't have very many flavors, but I figured quality was more important than quantity. However, my boyfriend's dad is an Italian American and his mom and brother have both had their fair shares of gelato, sorbetto and Italian ice, and no one was enthralled with Ciao's treats. The Coconut flavor (I forget the Italian name) tasted like sunscreen (this was a unanimous call) and my Cherry Vanilla flavor had a sickeningly sweet aftertaste similar to a frosting made entirely of confectioner's sugar. The Mango Gelato was apparently a new recipe, which was not creamy and tasted artificial. The consensus was that we had all had better gelato many, many times. Ciao gets an extra star because the strawberry flavor was good, and mixed well with the lemon, which, by itself, was a bit sour for my taste, and the girl behind the counter was patient with our party of six when we asked for tastes of different flavors.

I loved the gelato! My mom and I stopped by and were both pleased with the flavors we chose. Neither of us have been to Italy to try gelato so we had nothing to compare it to in that sense, but we loved Ciao Gelato and will go back again and again!

Good Italian gelato. A little bit expensive. Service is very nice. Don't forget to taste before buying.

Four star gelato, -1 star service. The older woman with the short hair and really dark tan working yesterday really had her panties in a bunch and was so rude. Although we really enjoyed the gelato, I don't think we will be back because of the lack of hospitality.

We stopped in here on a whim for some coffee and had such a great experience we came back every morning of our trip! The staff were accommodating and friendly. We got fresh pots of coffee made, coffee's with attention to and its a lot cheaper than Starbucks! The staff gave us tourists great suggestions on restaurants, shops and nightlife all of which were fantastic suggestions! Next time we come back we will definitely come back!

We live on Venice island and Ciao Gelato is our favorite stop after a night out. Its always delicious and the choices are great. My personal favorite is the coconut flavor but I always mix a few flavors because I can't get enough of it. Thanks Ciao Gelato for maintaining such a wonderful gelato shop on the island. Sincerely, VenetianFlowers.com

My family and I love Ciao Gelato! Their gelato is fresh and delicious and they always have a great variety of flavors. The biggest draw for me personally is their non-dairy gelato! I have to be dairy-free, which is difficult when you have a sweet tooth! But thanks to Ciao Gelato, I get to satisfy my sweet tooth with their dairy-free chocolate gelato. It is sweet, rich, and delicious! My husband likes it too and says it's just as good, if not better, as regular dairy chocolate. Their dairy-free fruit flavors are also really good! I was really impressed with their mango-pineapple mix. My absolute favorite is ordering non-dairy chocolate and raspberry together; it's the perfect combination of sweet with a touch of tart. Not to mention, the customer service is fantastic! The owners, Daria and RJ, are so friendly and sweet; very accommodating! I actually live on the east coast of Florida, but I'm in Venice often visiting my in-law's. RJ has told him to let him know a few days before my visit and he'll be sure to have a batch of dairy-free chocolate for me! Absolutely amazing and I appreciate it - keeps me coming back for more! I can't say enough good things about Ciao Gelato! Dairy-free or not, I'd choose it over the run-of-the-mill ice cream, like Kilwin's. They also have a location in Siesta Key which is great as well!

Charming, friendly, delicious - I could go on and on. The gelato is varied and yummy. Try one or two and you will be hooked. Their iced coffee is a secret weapon of cold deliciousness ... They use ice cubes made of coffee! Have one and chat with the lovely owners or people watch outside. You will not leave disappointed. You will definitely return!

I've been here before, gelato is a it below average and on the expensive side. Hey but whatever kids wanted it. I bought three kids size gelatos and since they asked what I want I went with a kid size for myself. I got an attitude that kids size is only for kids - dumbfounded for a split sec and not wanting the 'Murica size portion I pointed at my other kid that just woke up and said "it's for her". My wife was equally dumbfounded. Hey but it worked just had to dock a star for the unnecessary hassle to get a smaller portion and comments/demeanor of someone that may have been the owner or senior staff. The hazelnut was worse than last time. Service was way better in the past.

They have changing flavors daily. The portions are large and prices are comparable to other artisan ice cream. I would exchange the " shovel" for a spoon because of trying to eat it before it melts In the FL humidity. I loved the salted caramel and pistachio. The staff were friendly Both times we visited. Will return!

Excellent gelato and espresso! The owner was kind enough to let my three young kids watch him extract the gelato from the machine that's in the back of the store. Very friendly staff and tasty treats!

Ordered my favorite Italian ice cream, "Stracciatella " made from homemade fresh vanilla and chocolate shavings. My son got the Raspberry Gelato. It was even more refreshing for a hot day!

Wow! I write this really upset. I had a semi-bad experience here and wrote about it on their facebook. Instead of responding like a manager of a business about the situation, they deleted my comment AND blocked me from being able to review them on facebook. Here was my comment and all is true: My mom and I strolled in there during off season (Venice is very seasonal). They have a lot to choose from so it was taking some time to decide. I put my order in and my mom was still thinking about which one to get. The young man behind the counter was very rude and told my mom to come back to the counter when she "finally decides on what you want". I totally get that if there were a line, but no one was behind us, it wasn't like there was a line, and she wanted to look at all the flavors. I really don't think he had to be so rude about it, he could have engaged in conversation, especially for being in a touristy place or even said "Hey, just let me know when you're ready". I cancelled my order and we left. I don't think this is any reason to Ignore my comment, delete it then make me unable to post on your facebook. I'm not being an idiot, just a consumer. I wasn't really that upset about it, but now I'm super upset and now I will make sure my family and all of my Venice fishing buddies never patron this place. Good going guys! :) P.S. It's super pricy for Gelato. Go to the ice cream place down the block :)

We stopped here for an after dinner treat. I got one scoop of a chocolate combination, and I thought it was delicious. My husband got one scoop espresso and another of stracciatella. The espresso flavor tasted like it was made of last weeks old coffee grounds. It was downright icky. I thought that his other scoop was heavenly, he said it was just okay. He compares it to the gelato of his European travels, and it just doesn't measure up in flavor and texture. It also costs nearly 500% more than it does in the Czech Republic, so we were hoping for it to be as good or better. For our three scoops, it cost us about $10. It was very good ice cream, but not knock your socks off amazing gelato (which it would have to be for us to spend that much on dessert again). Note: I got a single scoop, my husband got a double scoop, which came to around $10. If you want to save money and try three flavors, try all three in one cup which is a lot less (as noted below by the owner).

I had a regular size gelato $4 - some type of chocolate with pieces of chocolate in it. It was delicious. My hubby got an iced mocha that was far better than Starbucks. The girls working the counter were very friendly. I would definitely go back.

Extremely welcoming with smiles, hellos and impeccably CLEAN, that's sometimes hard to come by here in our small town of Venice! Arriving via Michigan, Kilwins is home to me so walking by hoping no one spotted us was difficult but well worth the new find! I was served a Raspberry Sorbet that was amazing and much larger than needed, my better half had 1/2 Dulce De Leche 1/2 Spiced Walnut! Simply the best! Pretty sure we were offered to sample almost every flavor in the shop, I was satisfied before I even got my sorbet! Perfect stop on the way to the beach for sunset treats! PS. Unlike the other reviewers....I'm Swedish and maybe only know meatballs!! ;D

We walked to this establishment after eating at a nearby restaurant with a party of 8. We quickly made our selections, with several members of the party choosing the "cookie dough" flavor. It was sweltering inside the place and the gelato was melting everywhere before we could even pay, so we quickly moved outside. We no more got outside than the kids brought the cups over to me (cookie dough) and said they couldn't eat it, something was wrong. I tasted it myself and it was completely sour. I took it back in and asked if it could have gone sour and was told that it was made with lemon. LEMON? None of us that ordered it could eat it, and the employees shrugged us off. $15+ I had to throw away right there. I would have been fine if they would have allowed us to make another selection, but no one likes throwing away their hard earned cash on something that is completely misrepresented. I don't think that ordering something that is cookie dough flavored and expecting it to taste like cookie dough, rather than rotten sour fruit, is too much to ask. Especially for the price!! Very disappointing!

The gelato here was pretty good. It's not the best I've had, but the pistachio and amaretto mix was pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but it is still the best option in the area.

Twist my arm - and I'll grudgingly go to 3.5 stars and might go back. She was disappointed there were no fruit entrees (she wanted a berry - any berry failing that ANY fruit) - very limited selection of about 12 but for Venice I guess that's not too bad. Walking downtown solidifies so many stereotypes of the Venice scene - your parents retire to Sarasota or Ft. Myers - your grand parents retire to Venice. We were attending the 3rd Thursday evening for the downtown strip. Good God - if you want to feel young again - hit the strip on 3rd Thursday evening - you'll bring down the average age by 20 or 30 yrs (no - it doesn't matter how old you are - if you're reading this you're under the age of 90 more than likely). We shared a large dark chocolate and salted caramel. It was OK. The counter babe was a bit rude/short (as most transplanted New Englanders in Venice are).

After coming back from a trip to Florence, Italy, I have to say that this gelato is comparable to what you get in Italy esp the pistachio flavor.

3 stars for the girl behind the counter!! The gelato could be a lot better. We arrived as soon as they opened. The lovely girl that works there explained to us the gelato was in a firm state because they just opened. Try explaining to children who were so hot from the 100 degree day that the gelato is not quite up to par yet! We took the risk anyway and we were not over impressed but not disappointed either. There variety is not large but interesting selections. We would go back (later in the day!!)

Ciao Gelato is simply gelato nirvana! Since visiting Italy we've searched for somewhere that made gelato that could compare with the tasty treat we had there and have been disappointed time and again. Until we found this gem of a gelato shop.I simply can't say enough about Ciao Gelato. I highly recommend a visit and you'll be hooked.

This place had ok gelato. I have had a lot of gelato from around the country (since the gelato craze has hit) and this is not as creamy as what I am used to nor as flavorful (I think they flavor with syrups more than real ingredients).
