Chef Jim welcomes you and then gives samples of everything. He prepares and serves everything! All breads, soups, desserts made by Chef Jim. The Beef Barley Soup was great! Huge bowl of perfectly low salt and spice that we ate to the last drop. Lean pastrami with an onion jam, a touch of mustard on house made pumpernickel and I was in heaven. My friend had the mounded chicken salad with walnuts spinach and a delicious hous made creamy garlic dressing (also available were a tomato honey or a lovely vinegrette you can sample before deciding.) We were stuffed and did not have a special of the day creme caramel, but did glom all Jim's house made water bagels to take home for my New Yorker in laws who are always on a quest for a great NY bagel in Florida. It was a slow day so I got to chat with Jim about his travels to an Adriatic village experience. He clearly loves to cook and does a great job. Five stars!

An excellent B&B!! Susan and Chuck, innkeepers, have created a warm and friendly atmosphere with just the right balance between privacy and making you feel like family. Breakfast is enjoyable, both in terms of food and companionship of other guests. We enjoyed a quiet afternoon by the pool, after several active days of golfing. So happy there was a cancellation this year so we could spend some time at The Banyan House!

Caffe Panini

CAFFÉ PANINI All is well from the doctor, but needed a break from recipes that aren't turning out so great. There was only one place I wanted to go before the Venice Indians football game Friday night - Caffe Panini. Lisa Smith your pics did me in. We knew what we wanted - salad and pizza. We could not believe we have never had it here. Truth is that I'm not a lover of pizza. But my hubby is - so much that we each ordered our own small pie. We both love salad. We ordered the Misto minus the ham. Fresh greens, cherry tomatoes and their house made fresh mozzarella. Bottles of EVOO and balsamic so that we may dress it to our taste. Their mozzarella is exquisite. I would eat an entire pound with my fingers pulling it apart if I didn't have dietary restrictions. As an accompaniment, triangles of warm panini bread. My DH ordered his favorite - margarita, a simple, humble pie of tomato sauce, basil and the mozzarella. I ordered the Vegetariana which was topped with tomato sauce, eggplant, roasted peppers, mushrooms and mozzarella. If you think there is a theme here, you're right. I cannot count or even want to recall the number of FB threads there have been about pizza, the crust, or the style. I do not know how Nick makes his dough. I do not care. I only know that for this family there will be no other pizza. It's that easy. The crust was the perfect thickness to hold the toppings. It was a thing of beauty. There were no huge air bubbles on the outside; no burnt parts to kill the flavor in your mouth. There was no greasiness. These debates have gone on long enough. While we were eating, another table had ordered what looked to be panna cotta topped with berries. There was a large table of 10 behind me and one of the gentlemen interrupted his conversation to say "That is so good you will not believe it." Further discussion and he said he is from New Jersey. I said I wouldn't hold it against him. Of course I got the dessert. It was so good that I can't believe it. Not loose, not lumpy. A creamy, rich velvety texture topped with a berry compote that made my taste buds dance. Thusly, I am sated. My night was made even better by Indians beating Rams 21-10. Thank you Annamarie Todaro Depaolis. You're the best! BTW, I just saw that you have on the Children's Menu Mozzarella Grilled Cheese. I am now going to cry.
Thin crust pizza that is the equal of that found in New York or New Jersey. Fresh mozzarella, spicy sausage, good sauce, crispy crust. And Ceasar is a really nice guy. Very happy to find this place. After living in the NY metro area for over 60 years my pizza standards are high. Now if I can find decent bagels life in Venice will be great.
I found myself in Venice in need of lunch, and figured that I would try this place out, and I was not disappointed. It's a smaller establishment, with tables inside and outside. As it was a hot summer day, I opted for inside seating. I decided to try their Trio Combo, it's your choice of a half panini, with soup and a mixed green salad. I went with the Capri Panini as I was attempting not to eat any meat for the week. Not that I'm a vegetarian, or concerned about my diet, it was just a personal challenge to mix things up. The Capri Panini comes with homemade mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil. I asked our server about the choices for soup, and on the day of my visit they had a roasted tomato soup, as well as an artichoke and pea soup. I was intrigued by the artichoke and pea soup, so I went with it. The food arrived after about ten minutes, and the panini was very, very good. The artichoke and pea somehow worked together very well, and I enjoyed my soup very much as also. The salad wasn't too shabby either. The server was very attentive, and the price was right. I would recommend coming in to give it a try if you find yourself in the area.

Updated 7/25/15 Was so excited to go back to Sweet Peas only to find it's closed. Update your stuff Yelp! Very sad.
Gluten Free is one of their specialities! They make every guest feel right at home with a friendly staff and great music. Breakfast here is a must! Their gluten free pancakes are out of this world especially with their house made maple syrup! They also offer a delicious grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast! Both Breakfast and Lunch are reasonably priced for being organic and/or locally grown! Their moto is "Let's get together and feel alright"-Bob Marley
One of the coolest cafes in town. The food is great and the staff is friendly. I arrived in this cafe looking for breakfast one morning and was greeted by smiles from both the of the owners. I had a seat at the front bar (which I would recommend if you like a more personal experience), looked at a menu. Immediately it stuck out to me, I ordered Apple cinnamon oatmeal. At first you may think that it's just oatmeal, but it's made with palm sugar and served with coconut milk, sesame seed, flax seeds and chia. As I sat and had my breakfast I had a wonderful conversation with the owner, listened to some of my favorite songs play in a very cool looking store. Talking to the owners I learned that not only them but their employees don't see this as a job, but a lifestyle. They strive to bring people healthy and delicious options great customer service and smile to your face, and it shows. They have tons of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options too. I will be returning which is something I can't say for most establishment. I am excited to watch how this business grows.

Awesome service and delicious ice cream!! It's the only place we go for great ice cream!
I've been going in for the last three years and I've had no complaints. Great service with excellent homemade ice cream. If you're on vacation and looking for ice cream I'd recommend stopping by the creamery!
I am from the "dairy state" but I have to say I have found the most flavorful ice cream I have ever had right here in Venice! I had the coffee flavor, my sister had strawberry. It was the BEST. Two gentleman were serving us. Great personalities, friendly, they asked where we were from. They stay open till ten which is another plus. If I could have brought ice cream home I would have. It's cute, the variety of flavor is great. Highly recommend you try it!

Shogun Japanese Steak House

Reviews:
Four words: I love this restaurant. I grew up eating at Shogun (the same family has owned it since the late eighties), and I have to say I think I love it even more now at 31 than I did as an 8-year-old in awe of the giant fire. I live in Atlanta, but every time my family and I visit my parents in Venice we prioritize eating at Shogun. Over the last week and a half we have eaten there three times! The service is friendly and efficient. Steve, one of the chefs, is a real trip, and adds a dry wit normally found only in comedy clubs. As for the decor, no, it's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it's charming in its own way (my kids love the pond with real fish). Which brings me to my main point: what sets Shogun apart from other hibachi restaurants is, of course, the FOOD. The soup is a simple "shoyu" onion soup (not miso as another reviewer stated), and the green salad comes with a ginger dressing that is just perfect--savory with a hint of wasabi, it avoids the cloying sweetness I find of the dressing at other hibachis. I always order shrimp for my main course: they are succulent, juicy, and pair perfectly with Shogun's delectable mustard-based seafood sauce, again a welcome departure from the overly-sweet white sauce found at most hibachis. Dinner is accompanied by a vegetable medley, beansprouts, and fried rice, which is included for no additional cost. I slather the ginger sauce on pretty much everything--so yummy with hints of orange juice, sesame, garlic, and of course the zesty ginger. Now that I've typed this I am craving Shogun and bummed that I'm now 500 miles away and can't eat there again until Christmas. If you have the chance to go, don't hesitate--go enjoy the deliciousness! I'll try not to be jealous.
Omg, love!!!!! Highly reccomend!
Pretty typical for a Japanese Steak House/Hibachi (where you sit at a table surrounding a stove and the chef cooks right in front of you). I sort of feel that if you've been to one Hibachi, you've been to them all... The chefs make the same jokes/do the same tricks - egg roll, the flaming onion tower, etc. - the food is consistently the same, and good. It's good at Shogun, but not amazing. Everyone in my group got the chicken (teryiaki??), which comes with Miso soup (I actually liked it here, as opposed to at other places), salad (LOVE the ginger dressing), fried rice (I would have preferred brown rice or noodles), veggies and I think bean sprouts. It's a LOT of food, but I ate it all up! The main meal comes with 2 different sauces - one for the meat and one for the veggies, but I mixed them around. We were a bit surprised that both the hostess and our chef were not Japanese!! His name was Juan!

We used a groupon for Mad Dogs and we will definitely go back. The service was awesome, we called ahead of time and they had everything correct.. The food was unbelievable.. We finally found a place who makes awesome beef sandwiches. My kids ordered the Chicago dogs and many others.. We had high hopes for this place and they delivered..I am so glad we finally found a place who makes hot dogs and beef sandwiches correct. Keep up the good work . We will be going back a lot..
I had roast beef burger, the wife had European pretzel dog. We shared a side of sweet potato fries with 2 Dr. Brown's sodas. All great! For only $13!
They serve all of the classic hot dogs. Want a hot dog from Chicago? They got it. Memphis? They got it. They have hot dogs from all over the place. Whats great is, they have done their homework and is all very authentic to the area where the food originally came from. Like the Chicago dog uses a Vienna hot dog with mustard, neon relish, onions, sliced pickle, peppers, tomatoes, celery salt and a poppy seed bun. Everything is the is would be if you would get in Chicago. They also carry Italian Beefs and Philly Cheesesteaks. Their sides of sweet potato fries and corn nuggets are awesome too! Low prices and good food make it a good quick stop. Cash only.

Don't discredit the stores in strip malls--they might just impress the heck out of you. We took a chance on Yellow Sub and we didn't leave unimpressed. The gyro was meaty and the pita was warm. Fries like angel's shoe strings. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
After a few ups and downs, we found this sub shop to be very customer focused. I can appreciate an owner who reaches out to their customers and tries to make a negative experience better. Yellow Sub has done just that. I love their daily specials, and when we try to think of something easy we can have delivered for lunch, Yellow Sub is one of our first thoughts. I'm eager to try their breakfast, and maybe even go eat inside the restaurant soon!
This is a great place to eat check out their pea soup, fried haddock and specialty salads.

Amazing donuts, jelly inside is the best. Fresh and great variety
Yummie's is one of our favorite places in FL for donuts, and we have been going to Yummie's since they had a Sarasota location and have loved it! Well worth driving to Venice for the donuts!
