I hate writing this. The people were great, they had some nice beers (I ordered take out, but asked. They are a Bud shop with a few craft beers that sounded great), the presentation was fantastic, the portions where, in general, great. BUT, this is a BBQ joint. The pork is the thing. I ordered a pulled port BBQ sandwich. It was $8.99. A little pricey, but you get two sides with that, and the sides are AWESOME. Lots of excellent fries, and very good, freshly made coleslaw. They has sweet potato fries, and BBQ beans, and green beans. I was intrigued with the green beans, but no bits of pork and onion. Really? Good southern beans have bits of pork, and/or bacon in them. That is how it is done. Anyway, I went with fries and slaw. I ordered carry out, and my order came out in a big paper bag, with everything. Nicely done! I did not have to ask for anything else, although I should have (see below.) The fries were hot, and wonderfully crisp. The slaw was thick cut, and home made. Catsup added without asking. Packaging was excellent. I opened the nice plate and saw the wonderful brioche bun with the pig burnt on it. SWEET! I opened up the sandwich and saw that they had added BBQ sauce. OK, well I should have asked for it on the side (newby!), I added a dab of slaw, and bit into the seemingly excellent sandwich. Then, well, my experience went south. The portion of pork was small and, the BIG issue, the pork was soaked in some kind of juice. This is so wrong. BBQ pork (a shoulder, hopefully) should be moist, with crispy bits, smokey, tender, and a compliment of sauce. Mouth feel is a big deal in BBQ pork, and this just did not do it for me. This pork was swimming in juice (fat/grease and water and salt, I think), and the meat had no taste! Yes, that is a bummer. It was smothered in a sweet and cloying sauce. Not spicy, not unusual, just sweet. I did not ask if they had a spicy sauce, and that is my fault. They may, and that would have helped the bland, wet meat. Overall, my lunch was just OK. Great people, nice selection of beers, pretty good sides, excellent presentation, but the meat is the thing. I will return and try them again. I will try the ribs and ask for spicy sauce and hope I can dismiss this first impression.

Had the half rack of ribs, baked beans and green beans for sides. Ribs were very good. Great flavor....so good that I never had to add more sauce. They were great as is. Sides were very good also. Check them out.

A solid 4. They said they recently got a smoker and started doing their own meat and you can tell. All we got were were the BBQ nachos, but they were very good.

Had lunch here today. Disappointing, Brisket sandwich not all that tasty - no smoke! Bun was OK but meat was sparse Mac & cheese side was a plus. Alfredo sauce with blend of cheeses was nice.

Have been there two times this week. Good portions and are flexible on the kid's menu. Food is good for the price. Service is a bit on the unimpressive side, but about what one expects in the off season.

Decent joint. Let me first say I am a snob when it comes to barbecue. And ill preface that the service was excellent, Smitty was a real gem (guessing hes either the manager or owner). However the brisket was a bit of a letdown. It lacked the smoke flavor and any sort of crust that I look for. The Mac and cheese was a pleaser at the table as well as the pulled pork.

What a delicious meal! The restaurant wasn't busy when we visited so we were a little leary about stopping. We both ordered the BBQ pork platter and were pleasantly surprised. The pork was tender and moist, cooked perfectly. Not fans of crazy hot BBQ, the sauce was tangy and flavorful. The coleslaw was crunchy with just the right amount of sweet dressing. Sweet potato fries were scrumptious. We will definitely return for seconds and thirds!

Enjoyed great BBQ sandwiches and ribs. Will be back for sure. In the past two weeks we have visited this new Venice gem three times. The first time we found the pulled pork and the BBQ chicken sandwiches to be excellent. After that, it was all about the ribs.......perfect! Also, for a side dish, select the Mac and Cheese......outstanding! PS...... Excellent service too.

Very good BBQ. Came 2 times during our vacation. Both times were served quickly. Service was great too.

Great BBQ in downtown Venice. This is a real restaurant, with table service and a full menu. Real BBQ served in an upscale environment. The full rack of ribs is great, juicy, and tender, cooked just right, and the largest portion I have seen ever. The appetizer selection is original, varied enough, and served fresh and hot. A sampler appetizer is a great way to try everything. Leave room for a great assortment of desserts. Don't forget to try the root beer. Real bottled stuff, not soda fountain.

Went for first time.... Loved it. Prices are reasonable (not cheap but not over the top either) and the portions were very large. Enough for lunch the next day...

Best BBQ place on the island!! Service is super friendly and always on the spot! Decor is super cute and love the food! The ribs are super juicy and have that awsome smokey flavor! Can't wait to go back!

Clean, attractive interior, polite and efficient female server. Small serving of pulled pork was nearly tasteless and quite watery. Beef brisket was somewhat better. Fries were crisp and tasty. Coleslaw plentiful and pleasant-tasting. Baked beans seemed canned with mustard added. Neither my husband nor I enjoyed them. The minuscule Mason jar beverages were a joke for $2.59 each. Our server refilled them upon request, but why??? We want to like this place, but the food wasn't much like barbecue, and we have other choices in the area that we enjoy more.

Went with a sizeable group and we were well served. Unfortunately most were unhappy with their meals. Ribs were tough & chewy. Brisket was also tough. Salad eaters were happy and I loved the pig brand on my bun. Attractive decor and decent service can't overcome the inadequate food. I doubt our group will return :-( .

This BBQ restaurant just recently opened and I for one like to wait a few months to let these new places work out their kinks. Against my better judgement I convinced my wife to try it out only because the owner of this place owns another restaurant in Venice that has an excellent reputation. The restaurant itself is very nice looking with outside seating, the staff was welcoming and courteous. We went for lunch and the place was only about 10% occupied so we were seated immediately and able to sit where we wanted. The server was very attentive and the food was brought to us quickly. We ordered the BBQ chicken breast sandwich with fries and to drink we had beer. The temperature of the food seemed like it had been sitting underneath a heat lamp and the lamp was not hot, room temperature best describes it. The chicken itself seemed of very low quality, the kind you would get in a frozen dinner and only had a dab of BBQ sauce and no seasoning used on the chicken itself, the fries are the bagged frozen type and not fresh cut. The beer bottle was cold but the glass that was brought to us was not frozen which when used caused the beer to lose cold temperature quickly. I was excited to see a different type of food establishment open in the downtown Venice area but highly disappointed in the quality of the food. Please keep in mind we only tried the chicken so I cannot comment on the quality of the other items on the menu. Sadly enough I will not be returning only because the kinks I was expecting from an owner who owns another restaurant with an excellent reputation would not be with the quality of the food.

We went out looking for some casual dining but had trouble finding anyplace without a long wait. We saw there were tables available at 3 Little Pigs and decided to give it a try. I'm very happy we did and can't believe they aren't busy every night of the year. The ribs are the best I've had in Venice and we've tried them all. They are tender and tasty and the portions are a good size. We also had the pulled pork and wasn't disappointed. The corn on the cobs, baked beans, sweet potato fries and coleslaw were all wonderful. And the cornbread is "write home about" legit. The only thing we had to complain about is the mahi mahi. Although it tasted great the portion size was small. The beer was cold and the service was excellent. They are so friendly and very helpful. We will definitely be back.

Gold River BBQ has nothing to worry about. The decor is great but the food is not great. The beans seemed canned and the pulled pork seemed thawed from frozen. I didn't smell a bit of smoke and wonder if they even have a pit. I was not offered a refill on tea. Rib City blows this away! Sorry. Venice needs a place like this but the food is just not up to snuff.

Went here today for lunch, had the baby back rib sandwich with coleslaw. Simply delicious, the ribs are pulled off the bone and so tender. The pineapple slice just adds a great sweetness to the ribs. The bun that it sits on is super fresh. My other half had the sliders. 3 sliders one is brisket, one pulled pork and a baby back with the pineapple slice. He loved them especially the brisket. Sweet potato fries were great. Forgot to mention my coleslaw was very good. The waiter was super nice, great service. Would go back for sure. Prices are reasonable.

The food was not good at all. Corn was way over cooked. String beans were tasteless. Pulled pork was watery. The brisket was OK. Service was very good and the decor was quite nice. A BIG no - no ... a dog sitting ON a chair at an outside table while it's owner was eating. Not very considerate for the next customer who sits on the chair the dog was sitting on. This is a clear violation of Venice City codes.

We shared a full rack of ribs...it was more than enough for 2. Excellent rib, tender and no over loaded with bbq. Extra sauce was offered on the side. Side were great, service friendly, prompt and courteous. The place was very clean, even the corners in the bathroom. Highly recommend it.

Ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Extremely small portion. The pork was wet, with no smoke flavor or bark. I'm not sure if the owners really know what barbecue is supposed to taste like. My guest ordered dinner plates which had small portions as well. Good luck because locals will not frequent this restaurant
