Loved the burger and fresh cut fries were amazing. My friend has been telling for years to go there and finally got around to it. Would like to return for a hot dog and milk shake.

Ok this place is good and the service was great, the dogs aren't that expensive a foot long for 7 bucks and some change.. pretty good deal Now the bad news....bum bum bum The chili was GROSS!! It was like powdered meat you get from taco bell or Jack in the box...but worse! It was dry, no flavor at all I would definitely go there again but not for their chili dogs lol

In need of a quick and convenient place to grab a lye lunch on our way back to the other coast, and Schnapper's fit the bill nicely. The food is straightforward and simple - hotdogs, burgers, fish sandwiches, grilled cheeses, fries and the like. No frills, and pretty cheap. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free drink. I had a fish sandwich, which was really tasty. The fish filet was fried (no surprise), but the grouper was light and flaky. With a little malt vinegar on top, it was a perfect lunch after a day in the hot sun. The fries were also good - skin-on, and apparently hand-cut, they were fried perfectly - crispy and not soggy. I added a dousing of malt vinegar and was immediately transported back to childhood vacations. Always a good memory for me. If you're looking for a simple, all-American meal with no frills, that's sure to please everyone, be sure to stop at Schnapper's.

The dogs are the way to go here at Schnapper's. There is something for everyone. I have had the burger, which they say they hand make daily, it was pretty good. The wings are small and dry, I'd skip those. The fries are fresh cut and really yummy. Try some free samples of ice cream while you wait!

The last stop on the way off island - can't forgo a Schnapper's while I'm in town. The hot dogs remain outstanding, and the fries are no slouch either. The guy behind the counter is jokey and patient, and the prices are manageable. A super cute koozie and a T-shirt for the husband back home (2.50 and 10.95 respectively - less expensive and more fun than anything I'll find in the airport). It really is awesome, and is completely worth it. Yumyumyum.

Big dogs and juicy burgers at this old fashioned stand. Very little seating inside...like one bar Styled floater, but food is fresh, albeit greasy, and quickly made to order. Considerably better than expected, but a greasy old fashioned dog and burger spot nonetheless. Decent ice cream selection and laid back vibe makes it great for folks with kids that don't mind standing while eating.

The best meal you'll have on Sanibel/Captiva is a dog and a milkshake from Schnapper's. The timing of your visit to Schnapper's is of great importance. If you go at the end of your stay, you'll wonder how much better your trip could have been had you discovered in sooner. If you go in the beginning of your stay, all subsequent meals will be held to this impossibly high standard and will fall far short of the mark. I think the best solution is probably to come here every day.

Best burger I've had from any take-out place. Cheeseburger with the works. Highly recommend. Juicy, veggies were crisp, bun was fresh. Delicious.

This is one of my all time favorite places to eat on this island! I've been coming to Sanibel for 29 years and when Schnapper's joined the island it was the best addition! We frequent Schnapper's at least 5 times during during our 2 week stay! We recommend the chili dog, the sausages, the onion rings, fries and can't forget about the milkshakes! If you're looking for a delicious hot dog stop by and you WON'T be disappointed!!!!!!

Grilled hotdog and fries were on point, they even have dill pickle relish. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly.

Well what can I say about this little road side hot dog stand, other than good food at a great price. The ambiance is one of bathing suits and flip flops as the lunch crowd rolls in from a morning at the beach (as was the case with me). The menu is simplistic which makes for easy ordering. You're either having a sandwich, hot dog, or slice of pizza. My mother and I decided on hotdogs. I had the bratwurst with grilled onions and sauerkraut on a fresh toasted roll with a medium fries which could be consider a large in most fast food joints. As for my mom, she had a hotdog with cole slaw slaw which was fresh and over flowing the bun. To drink the had a large variety of local made sodas so I had the creme which went well with my food. Over all I give it 4 stars because it was a little uncomfortable in the Florida heat with the non existent a/c to enjoy my food. Oh as a side note all seating is actually standing so if you have an issue standing for a while you might want to take your food to go!!!

Schnapper's is one of those places whose success stems from Sanibel Island nostalgia and hype more than great food or value. (Or even good food or value...) Outside of being overpriced, there truly is nothing remarkable about the food served by Schnapper's. Ordered a chili dog and was completely underwhelmed. I would count it among the worst chili dogs I've ever eaten. Can't say that Schnapper's "chili" can even be called chili. It was more like extraordinarily low-quality, finely ground beef saturated in some kind of flavorless red liquid. That's literally all there was to it. No chili, no flavor, no nothing (except chili dog-killing blandness). If you like shakes that are completely unremarkable except for their runny/watery quality, then Schnapper's is the place to go. The shakes served by Schnapper's are the most bland and have the most watery consistency I've ever seen. At least half the shake was some kind of milk or cream or other watery substance that was poured from a jug. Really, I watched it being made. Outside of Schnapper's, I've never seen any shake made this way. Ever. I've also never, so thoroughly, not enjoyed a shake. Schnapper's seems to value cost-cutting and profit boosting far more than providing customers quality food and a decent value for their money. And they are succeeding at it. Which is why I will succeed at taking my hard-earned money elsewhere next time I'm in Sanibel. I would have given them one star, but their onion rings are pretty decent and the staff was very friendly.

Today ( August 26th ) we traveled to Sanibel island and made it around lunch time so we stopped and ordered the 1/3 lb cheeseburger and fries special. Unless you specify, the cheeseburger comes with " the works" which are lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard and mayo. ALL GOOD HERE and the fries which are hand cut comes as the side in the special here which I have to say is a small order and it is more than enough. The special goes for a good price considering the prices you'll find on the island. The burger was very tasty and juicy, cooked just right on the grill. we were not disappointed at all. There is no seating inside but they do have tables outside. we decided to munch on our burgers at the stand up counter which was a lot cooler than sitting out in the heat. The menu has everything from wings to hot dogs and fish. This is a good fast food corner hot dog stand you'd find in Chicago or New York and we were very full and satisfied at the end of our last bite..... mmmmm delicious. Want a great cheeseburger with "The Works"??? Then this is the place. Nice hidden gem in Southwestern FLorida.

My family and I stopped in after a day on the beach to grab some ice cream. There was a line out the door, but we took that as a good sign of things to come. The cashier that checked us out was very friendly and directed us to where we should wait for ice cream. It didn't take long to realize that the long wait was for those waiting on food and the place just didn't have the manpower to handle the crowd. As we were getting our ice cream, my dad kindly told the girl that he was actually supposed to get a waffle cone instead of the regular cone. Simple mistake. No problem. Easy fix. Well...not for Sarah. She informed us it would be an additional .75 for the waffle cone even after already paying for it. The manager, who was behind her helping with our order, told her it was fine. Just swap out the cone. Sarah, however, wasn't having any of that. Once the manager walked away, we were still charged the .75 for the cone replacement we had already paid for. We laughed, handed her a dollar, and walked out with our delicious Blue Bell ice cream. I smile to myself at how trivial this issue was as I write this review. But let's face it: when you have a line out the door with people waiting 30+ minutes for a hot dog, just swap the stupid cone and move on. Oh, and next time Sarah, listen to your boss. I'm certain he's not in the business of losing a customer over a .75 cone, which is exactly what you accomplished.

Long wait for our food, about 25 minutes. What the heck its island time, vacation. The footlong and fresh fries were good altough the chili dogs need to be completely reinvented here. But overall we had fun waiting outside baking in the sun with cold refreshing drinks during our biking stop.

Ordered 10 pcs fire wing...and it really made my mouth on fire, in a good way thou. My daughter got medium, it was great. Cheeseburgers are good as well. And the fries are awesome. The employees are friendly and helpful. The service was quick. And the price is, well it came up to around $46 for five people that's for 2 orders of 10 pcs wings, large fies, 2 cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwich, no drinks included. Pretty cheap for Sanibel standards.

One of my new favorite places on the Island! The onion rings are so delicious with a savory seasoning and crunch. They may even beat out the rings from Sonny Bryans in Dallas!! Any one of their hot dogs are pretty much a winner as well!

  • Ron W.

Schnappers is the best! We eat here whenever we are on the island! Best hot dogs burgers fries ice cream- total beach place.

  • Lucy O.

Schnapper's is great! The dogs, burgers and fries are top notch. The service was fantastic. We stayed on Sanibel for a week and only ate here twice....we won't make that mistake next time! I can not recommend this place enough. Please stop in and give them a try when you are visiting, you will not be disappointed.

After a beach day in Sanibel, I was starving. I had been here about 5 years back with my boss when i lived in Fort Myers so I was on that nostalgic tip. The lady at the counter was pleasant and service was fast. My mom got the burger and fries special and I got the Italian sausage with an order of friends, and two drinks; it was $24! Definitely tourist trap prices. However, I know they have been around forever and the food was great, the fries divine, and the sweet tea fresh. In the end, it was worth the money even though it felt like a splurge for such a little hole in the wall.

    (4)
  • Denise T.

Delicious! Great customer service, the hot dogs were snappy and charred just right. No boiled tasteless dogs here. And the onion rings were awesome!

  • Maggie B.

Always a favorite in my family, it's just rather expensive. 50$ for 4 people today. they also have ice cream which is always a hit with the kids. they only have 4 or 5 tables which fill up quickly so if one is open, grab it and have someone save it. they have really cute kids meals. they come in little boats and they have just they right amount of food.

    (4)
  • Shane H.

Was pretty disappointed in the quality of the dog. If you're going to charge $6 for a hot dog start with something better. The place is very busy but we sure won't be back.

Hot dogs burgers fries even fish. We had dogs and fries. All delicious. Fries were a generous serving. The have ice cream as well for dessert. Staff friendly and very informative.

Legendary, but pricey. The ingredients are of a high quality; however, I'd love to see their profit margins. It's incredibly good and I know I was thinking about it while sitting in gridlock trying to get off the sanibel causeway, it's all about the EPC-4! No more pizza but they have a large variety of ice cream and the shakes are great.

We have been coming to Sanibel Island and Schnapper's for many years. Hell we owned a house just down the road from here. So none the less we have eaten many meals here. Well over the past few years we have noticed a decline in food and service. This was always the first stop on our gastrointestinal adventures of vacation. As it was this time. Well sad to say this might be the last time we come here. The hot dogs were old reheated dogs and had no snap to them at all. " Schnapper's " the fries were cold soggy and really just ends. But this has been the trend from my experience over the last few years. The cook walking around with gloves on touching everything from his drinking cup to cell phone and leaving the counter to refill his drink. This was a great place at one time.

    (2)
  • V B.

Husband and sons love the place. It's a must go every time we are here. The hotdogs are grilled. I like them less grilled and the are great about cooking them as much or as little you like. They have the best onion rings, they are battered not breaded which is my favorite. Their pizza is pretty good. Just good old hot dog stand food. Haven't tried the ice cream but it looked good.

    (5)
  • Susie T.

Very average. Disappointed actually considering the price. If that place was in Chicago it wouldn't last a month.

There are few pleasures in life greater than boardwalk fries and malt vinegar. Starch fried, skin on, assaulted with sodium and left to age gracefully for the five minutes they sit before you feast. But just when you think they've attained perfection, along comes that sour, brown acid that says, "Hey tongue, lemme get all up on you." And your tongue acts shy at first, like its Mom is watching, but we all know how this story ends up. Shit gets real. Yes, the snappy dogs (while a bit pricey) are oh-so-gratifying, and Schnapper's dresses them up just fine. The yellow awning has been a beacon brighter than the Florida sun for years, always foreshadowing a perfect lunch and while there isn't an indoor seat to be seen, I've never needed one. Order up a Char-man of the Board with a regular fry and a fountain drink. Did you check-in on the Yelp app? Sweet, the soda's free and your meal rings in under $10. Let's hit the beach!

  • Kait W.

AMAZING!!! Best dogs, wings, and pizza on the island! The atmosphere is great and the food is to die for. You must go here! Also have fish sandwiches, Italian sausage, chicken fingers, chili dogs, ice cream, ect. Eat at schnapps!!!

  • Zack Y.

I thought this place would be able to dish out a decent dog but boy was I wrong. I ordered the footlong chili dog and almost everything about it was just wrong. The hot dog was a cheap mush dog, which tasted like it had a bologna filling. The chili was cold and bland, with a texture that seemed like Cincinnati style chili (which I love) but absolutely no flavor. The cheese was a shredded unmelted cheddar and the bun was cheap and untoasted. The only reason I've given the place 2 stars is because the fries were actually very good. Maybe the other menu items are better, but whatever you do avoid the hot dogs!

    (2)
  • Jamal F.

We had hot dogs at Schnapper's Hots as it was recommended by our guide. We loved them! Although hot dogs are no tour usual diet, we really enjoyed them. Take the recession special which includes two hot dogs and a drink! The pickle is the best to go with. Great experience!

  • Marlene W.

Food was fair to poor. Cost is high for what you get. Cashier and cook were arguing which is never good.

    (1)
  • Deb S.

Friendly, fast and delicious! The chili dog as a foot long is huge and messy, but very delicious. I recommend the slaw dog. finish your meal with a milkshake. A perfect end to a fun and tasty meal!

    (4)
  • Marietta W.

No seating indoors. I ordered the Grouper Sandwich which was billed as the best on the island. It was soggy and very fishy tasting. The French fries were not good. The pizza we ordered was at least edible. Very pricey for what we ordered, too.

    (1)
  • Tiffany G.

One of my all time fav places on the island. I always stop in to grab a burger or hot dog! All their food is delicious and their fries....think five guys but crunchier and way way better. Another huge plus is the owners and workers who are there, they are the sweetest and friendliest people. They make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. A deff must try for any local or visitor alike!

    (5)
  • Gaby S.

Awesome little place on the island for a quick lunch. They've been around for a while and we usually come here to get a burger or a hot dog. Prices are reasonable and the food is really good. My burger was cooked to perfection and the fries are really good too! Come here and you wont regret it :)

    (4)
  • Wayne S.

Pretty darn good dogs, brats and shakes. Excellent fresh cut French fries. My brat came on a big, sturdy toasted roll and was delicious. Not sure what some of the negative reviews are all about. (I've had dogs from the Home Depot / Lowes carts and these are way better for sure.) A very charming roadside spot for a relaxed, casual lunch. I definitely recommend it.

    (4)
  • Eric V.

Yes, they had pizza. But they have so much more! I'm visiting my elderly parents and they're refusing to feed me. Or refusing to feed me good food. I snuck off to this little joint and had a fantastic hotdog and onion rings. I could not tell you the type of hotdog I had but it was excellent and had amazing toppings. When they said foot-long they really meant it. The service was fantastic and quick. I can imagine kids and adults alike would love this. Now back to my parents and Melba toast.

  • Timothy A.

I go back every time I visit Sanibel. Fun old fashioned hot dog stand. Delicious fries. Wish they had a few more sit down tables, but eating standing up helps stuff down the fries easier. Love Schnapper's!

    (5)
  • Eric T.

What a great place for an afternoon snack. The onion rings are awesome and the food exceptionally fresh. Great experience.

    (5)
  • Morgan M.

I've eaten at Schnappers several times over the years, and this is my first review. While the ambiance is distinctly island kitsch, it's more of a landmark and a place to go as it embodies the island attitude on Sanibel. While I don't expect this to be a fine dining establishment, the prices they charge make me think otherwise. They're certainly charging premium prices for what is essentially basic hot dogs and hamburgers. After eating here over and over, I want to go back less and less. The hot dogs are decent, but more often than not they're blackened and cooked to within an inch of being cremated. The fries and onion rings are great if consumed immediately, otherwise, they become indescribably greasy and soggy once cooled. The condiment selection is rather good - green jalapenos, chopped onion, dill and sweet relishes. Eat here once to say you've tried it, but don't expect it to ever change...or improve.

    (2)
  • Roland L.

Well by far the best fresh dogs and fries SOUTH of NYC. Nothing like taking in the sun grabbing hot dogs for lunch A++++

    (5)
  • J H.

All time favorite fast food place not only on the island, but over all! I look forward to eating a cheeseburger with the works and home cut fries once a year during family vacation. Delicious!

    (5)
  • Susan C.

I heard that Schnapper's had the best fries on the island so before departing, we stopped in for a dog & fries. Honestly, the prices for fast food were borderline outrageous! And the fries were salty. The hog dog was just so-so. I don't see the appeal of the place but there were a steady stream of customers....No indoor seating, just a couple outside tables. Be prepared to stand while you eat. Is that fun? No!

    (2)
  • Shawn W.

I had the grouper basket. At first I thought the pieces were small. They were kind of short in the little box that they gave me and for $17 for 3 pieces, I was about to be a little upset. Then I did notice that they were very thick. So, no complaining about it after all. The were very good and the fries that they put in there were nice as well. The place is known for their hot dogs and they did look very good. I had a taste for fish that day so I decided to skip the dogs. Next time I'm on Sanibel, I will stop in for a dog and see what all the excitement is about.

    (3)
  • Mike G.

Would get 5 ***** if the hot dog bun was better, mine was dry, dog was great. She had a very good cheeseburger on a nice bun. Fry's were great! No seats stand up only.

    (4)
  • Ron C.

Had lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Once I walked into the place, my expectations fell to the ground. However all that changed once I sunk my teeth into the brat that i ordered. It was authentic and great as were the homemade french fries. All were delicious, and that is coming from a major foodie who can be a real pain in the _ _ _. Would definitely make a return visit!

  • Christopher J.

I am very sad to disagree with some reviewers here. I really did not enjoy this experience. Neither did my fiancée or our child. I ordered the Chicago Dog and it was okay. The Home Depot by my house has better Chicago Dogs for less money. My fiancée ordered the Chili Dog. The chili was disgusting. It was weird. Like no chili I have ever seen. It was meaty, which should be good, but it wasn't. Don't order this. My daughter got a regular hot dog. This wasn't too bad.

    (2)
  • Robert T.

This is a solid place. Good food with only minimal Sanibel price gouging.

    (4)
  • G C.

If you don't like this, you might be setting your standards too high. Schnappers imports great dogs from the north and makes them just the way you remember. Add shakes, pizza, and lots of toppings...no better on the island. Try the Original..three times...then add a Bratwurst. Support this business--great people and great food!

    (5)
  • Kimber L.

Very good place to grab a dog. I had the chili dog and it was great! My kids LOVED the boiled dogs and my husband devoured a burger. We shared an order of onion rings which were perfectly seasoned and crispy, not greasy at all:) I took advantage of their yelp free drink deal too. I wish they had the poppy seed rolls but otherwise have no recommendations to make this place any better. The kids begged to go back. BTW 3 dogs, burger, onion rings, & two drink set us back $40.00....which in Salibel is actually about as cheap as it gets.

  • Melissa P.

Great stuff! Shakes and hot dogs are good and the atmosphere is what you might say as classic and 'homely'. Good place for a simple take out lunch and good for family.

The bacon cheeseburger is delicious. Fries were average. Inside is standing room only. There are tables outside on the left.

    (3)
  • Matthew B.

Solid hot dog establishment very high quality sausages (hot dogs, polish, etc.). We ordered a chilli dog and polish both delicious. I liked fresh baked roll polish came on nice touch provided for maximum bite torque vs a regular hot dog roll that likely wouldn't hold up with polish and condiments. Chili was more of a meat sauce would of liked it a bit spicier but hey let's not split hairs. Condiments were fresh and plentiful. Staff very upbeat, pleasant, and prompt. Fries looked good as did other food but we didn't try. Great place for a casual lunch maybe early dinner. Only negative very limited seating you may want to consider takeout.

    (4)
  • Sheila S.

Definitely a takeout place. If you choose to say, wear bug spray! I got 10 bites in 20 minutes!

  • Amy G.

We arrived on Sanibel late on a Saturday night and struggled to find a kid-friendly place to get a very quick bite to eat. Although it was almost closing time, the staff happily took our order and cooked everything perfectly. I had the Chicago - not bad. The kids had kid meals which was more than enough food. Hubby had a basic dog and was happy. Fries were boardwalk standard. Standing room only, we would definitely stop in again.

    (5)
  • Hal H.

Okay - the fries do get five stars, but, unfortunately the dogs did not live up to the raves by some reviewers. I had the Chicago dog which was a pale imitation of the real thing. My wife had a plain dog with saeurkraut. The dogs were mediocre -- and, worse -- barely warm. The buns were average. Sorry, guys, but I won't be back.

    (2)
  • B C.

Not that great food. Chili was not chili. Grouper sandwich was fishy!

Excellent dawg with homemade slaw and fries. Awesome "fast" food.

    (4)
  • B R.

These guys are very friendly and they make a fantastic milkshake with real ice cream and even offer malt. The dogs are good and the fries are better than average. The seating is a bit strange (picnic tables between 2 buildings). Overall better than expected experience. Their hustle and enthusiasm are in stark contrast to the "island attitude" at most places. Overall we enjoyed eating there and even went back a second time.

    1. I love sausage dogs. 2. I love boardwalk fries. 3. I ate my meal of bratwurst with grilled onions and mustard after we lost track of the public parking lot on Captiva Island and wandered 5 miles (overshot by 2 and had to walk back) out of the way. I also hadn't eaten at all that day and I had lunch at Schnapper's at 2 p.m. So obviously this review is pretty skewed. That being said, these sausage dogs were like ambrosia. Spicy, salty, just a bit burnt from the griddle, sour onions, bitter mustard. OH YES MA'AM. If you like their fries, try them with mayo next time you visit, and thank me later. :-)

    (4)
  • David P.

The Schnapper dog, their original dog, was just ok, no snap, just a kind of sad char dog with a not so great topping mix. In no way was that dog worth $5. The brat had kraut and sweet onion and offered an excellent flavor to value ratio ($7). Those points made the real reason to go here is for the fries. Please go try the fries, they are the fresh cut with bits of skin on kind. They remind me of state fairs gone by the volcanically hot cup of fries served off a sketchy truck. My brother and I went back just to split a cup of fries on our way off the island. The fries were that good.

    (3)
  • Kevin W.

Ate there while traveling Sanabel. The Capone was very good and the fries are plentiful and tasty. Whole party enjoyed our dogs and fries. Service seemed annoyed there were so many "tourists" that were slowing the line, which surprised me for being on Sanibel. Seating is extremely limited especially since they are crowded. We stopped at 1:30 on a weekday and still ended up eating in our car.

    (4)
  • Suzanne Y.

We love this place! it's a must go on the island. I recommend the original dog and french fries. it's very casual there and full of characters!

  • Alexandra W.

As a girl who was raised on quality dogs - these are pretty primo. Fries were nice, skin on, and crispy. DO NOT MISS THE ONION RINGS. OMGLOLHoly Cow are they good. You won't be sorry!

    (5)
  • Jack K.

The French fries are great but the hot dogs are ridiculously over-priced and kind of gross. Three hot dogs and a box of fries cost $24 without any drinks. About the best I can say is they did not make me sick. The hot dogs were watery and mushy. Particularly avoid the chili dog. It didn't taste like chili and had the consistency and coloring of baby poo. I'm not sure what kind of meat they used in the chili but I'm pretty sure it was not ground beef because it had much too fine a consistency. Perhaps it was made from hot dogs that had been boiled until they dissolved. These dogs were not even close to as good as a Costco dog and cost twice as much. I'll never go back!

  • Kim R.

Every year we come to Sanibel, we always drive by Schnapper's Hots, but in the twelve years we've visited the island we'd never eaten here until this year. We spent a long day at the beach and wanted something quick for dinner, like pizza. We did take out, so I can't speak for the ambience of the restaurant. The takeout pizza was ready in 30 minutes. Schnapper's Hots has great pizza for a great price. We got a large pizza with half Hawaiin and half with sausage, peppers, and onions for $20. It was just enough to feed our hungry group of four. The pizza is not greasy and has a generous amount of toppings. I like my pizza with a little more sauce, but this was still tasty.

The fried grouper sandwich is very good, and a good value compared to most of the food on the island. Call ahead to order, because the wait can be a little long in the peak season.

I've visited a few times and wasn't disappointed by their food. Their dogs are great. The fries were OK. We wanted to try the onion rings but they were accidentally left out of the bag (they credited us for the next time and were really good about it). When we finally got them, they were wonderful. You can't go wrong going here while in Sanibel.

Agree, agree with Chloe M! Well, not sure about the chicken wings because our rule of thumb is hot dogs, and hot dogs only. Prices are a little steep for hot dogs, but (obviously) worth it. Do keep in mind that the Char-man is smaller than the footlong... so no man in our group had the Char-man. Course it was just one man (and 4 women, ha ha, how Mr Lalotto suffered through 3 days of girl-talk is still beyond me). These guys also make a mean milkshake.

Growing up vacationing as a kid on the outerbanks and in Charleston, (more precisely Sullivan's Island) I was weened on Skoogie dogs. I never thought I'd find a stand to rival my childhood hot dog hero, but Schnapper's takes the cake. After a week full of honeymoon meals, we were craving something simple and easy, cheap but good. We walked up just before the rush and ordered an EPC-4 Chili Dog for me and an Original Dog for the Man; we shared an order of onion rings and a soda. From first bite I was transported back to a time when hotdogs were my diet's mainstay and my summer afternoons were filled salt-water pickled skin and buckets of fiddler's crabs. This place has the best dogs I've had since I was a kid and if I lived on Sanibel I'd be 5x5 due to eating there every day.

First time on Sanibel for me. My sister, who has been coming here for 45 years had never eaten here. On a chilly, blustery day during my recent visit to the island I had a strong craving for a hot dog. So we stopped in for lunch. All declared it a good idea. I had the kielbasa/kraut which was good. The fries are also tasty and thanks for having malt vinegar handy.

Good hotdog and place for a late night bite! Go here instead of Dairy Queen!

Went to Schnapper's Hot today for lunch. Very good meal, but somewhat expensive. I had the hamburger - it was as good as I have had out, We actually watched them make the burger from a huge mound of ground beef. Everyone else in my family had the hot dogs. The fries were hand cut yet still crispy. Overall a great place for a quick lunch.

Great hot dog joint! Pizza was also tasty. You gotta try the hot relish.

Old-fashioned hot dog stand -- no airconditioning, no tables -- just two bar-height stands inside to eat your food in the heat. Nevertheless, they have the best hotdogs. They're sourced from a Polish family in NYC who transports them to Sanibel Island. The hotdogs and sausages are fresh and never frozen. They are excellent quality with a natural casing that has an awesome snap when you bite into them. Stayed a week in Sanibel and ate snacks here every day. The fries are fantastic as well as the chicken wings.

Tried the cheeseburger. Average, nothing special to write about. Definitely not worth the $8 they charged for it. You can find better in the area.

My family and I love this place!! The food is always fresh and the staff is very friendly. Their hot dogs, wings, burgers, and grouper sandwich are excellent. But the big hit for us are their fresh-cut french fries. They are always hot and cooked perfectly. We make several stops there throughout our stay, many times just to order the fries to snack on. A Sanibel staple for sure!

On my first visit I tried the pizza and wasn't a big fan. I may be spoiled by the great slices in my native NY. The second time, I tried their burger and had a much more positive experience. The wings were also quite good. I recommend Schnappers as long as you avoid the pizza.

Hot dogs were ok, but pretty small and very pricey. Had the Chicago, but it was more bun than dog. The fries were very good, and the only thing that filled us up. Ate outside, at sticky picnic tables and a flock of intimidating vultures. Even though this was peak season, the parking lot was empty most of the week - that should have been our first clue to stay away! Not worth the price for hot dogs, and will avoid next time. There are much better options for a casual meal on the island. The 2 stars are for the fries.

After reading the review about the hot dogs having a 'snap' to them, my husband and I decided to give this place a try today for lunch. Since we are originally from Chicago, we tried the chicago style Capone dog. Where's the SNAP? And where were the poppyseed buns? It was more like a skinless wiener. 2 chicago wanna-be dogs, 2 soft drinks, and 1 large fry cost $19.00. I would have gladly paid it for a Chicago "style" dog with a snap, even without the poppyseed bun, but not a tasteless mushy hotdog. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the fries were good. If you go for the fries, try something other than the hotdogs. We were on Sanibel just for the day and we're sorry we didn't pick a spot that had more reviews.
