Wow! Went to Jalapeños on a whim with my niece. We were both surprised at how flavorful and authentic everything was. Jalapeños is casual dining with counter service. They were out of chicken when we walked up to the counter but the owner, Miguel told us to sit down have some chips and queso while they made some right away. He chatted with us while we waited and brought our meals to the table once prepared. He shared some info about the restaurant and his experience with Mexican restaurants. Very engaged with making us feel welcome. I had chicken nachos loaded with fajita veggies, brown rice, black beans, pico de gallo and sour cream. My niece had the burrito bowl also loaded full of fiesta goodness. We both commented on never being able to finish because their portions are huge. Better than TF's or Chipotle in our opinion, both entrees were $7-8 and we left with half our meals to finish later. So nice to have a walk-in casual Mexican option in the area that is quick, friendly and affordable. Muy Bueno!

This business just recently opened 2 weeks ago,it's clean and staff is very friendly. The food is not bad and the prices are ok but not that cheap....I had a burrito with my girl and two sodas for $18 BUCKS witch I think is a bit overpriced. The food tastes good but is like chipotle minus they have tacos here and "agua de orchata" witch is a drink made out rice. Clean, friendly but a bit expensive The design inside is cool and they have Mexican sodas with made with real sugar.

With a similar setup to the burrito places you've come to enjoy, Jalapenos pops your burrito tortilla on a grill to warm it up when you're ready to go. Then pick your rice, beans, proteins and other mix-ins and it's wrapped and ready. I had brown rice with black beans and chicken, topped with pico and shredded cheese. It was a lot of food and I thought it was quite tasty and very good. With a cup of sweet tea, I was satisfied. Other than needing a bit of softening of the interior design that had a lot of exposed concrete and getting the sneeze guard glass to completely protect the hot food bar, I wouldn't change a thing. Yum. Sit outside and watch the street traffic!

Youve got to be kidding me. Its Wednesday, 12:45 and youre still not open??? You came out at 12 and said 30 more minutes. We wanted Mexican so we waited---I watched at least 15 people try to go in and they were met with the locked door and confusion. Also, Im all for different style music, but its highly unprofessional to blast music on 1st street through your company speakers that says the word "fuck" over and over again. I watched parents shudder as they walked their children past your business. What a joke!

True with the other reviews, Jalapenos is clean and a basic burrito assembly line restaurant similar to Chipotle or Moe's. That is where the comparison ends. I live/work in Sanford and knew of this place opening up so my wife and I decided to give it a go. We really try and support the local restaurants as much as possible. Upon walking in, the restaurant was completely dead... on a Saturday night... around 7:00 PM. Just for comparison, the Greek restaurant next door was also dead - Christo's, Corner Cafe, The Breezeway and the German restaurant were extremely packed though. Maybe this is more of a take out place? We decided to still go in and see what they had to offer. I decided on a Burrito while my wife wanted the Nachos. We had our 3 year old son with us who eats just about anything, however they had no kids menu. You picked from a Burrito, Taco's, Quesadilla, Nachos or a Bowl. The sides were Chips, Salsa, Guacamole, Queso or Empanadas. We walked over to start the order and it was all we could do to not turn around and walk out - everything looked as it had been sitting for quite some time. All of the meats were sitting in liquid (should not be like that), the guacamole was brown (a sign from being old) and even the sour cream was basically liquid (possibly a sign of it not being kept cold enough?). I ordered white rice, pinto beans, steak, pico, lettuce and cheese. The tortilla was warmed in a grill and the burrito was made - overflowing so much that the worker could not even close the burrito. I figured that was fine... we were going home and I could use a fork/knife. My wife ordered the Nachos and the guy put about 5 chips in a plastic platter and asked if that was enough... she said no, not for $8. So the girl making the food brought out a brand new bag of chips (not homemade). My wife had the shredded beef, black beans, pico, salsa, cheese. Both meals came to $16.03, without drinks or anything else. Kind of pricey, but no big deal. Another couple had walked in while we were there, looked at the menu and the food, and walked out. The entire ride home we discussed if we should eat the food and risk food poisoning... questioning how long all of that food had been out for and was it even kept at the proper temperature. Seriously... all of the components that you could pick from looked hours/days old. I did notice the girl in the kitchen who was preparing food - she took out a bunch of cilantro wrapped in foil - the cilantro was brown. She was cutting it up to be used. Again, focus on the quality here. We got home and decided lets try it. I took 2 bites, spit out the steak and said no way... I was not risking it. I have never, ever not eaten something out of fear of getting food poisoning. The burrito itself somewhat had decent flavor, but was very comparable to Taco Bell. The steak was tough, chewy and tasted boiled. My wife took one bite of a nacho - it was completely stale. I tried 2 other nachos... both completely stale. Mind you, these came out of a completely unopened bag. I have to end this by saying I really, really wanted to like this place. Maybe we will try it again... maybe it was an off night. Based on the other reviews saying the food was really good either other people's thoughts on what is good are way different than mine, or our experience was just a freak occurrence... I don't know. I've never refused to eat something out of safety and wondering how old the food was. The staff was friendly... but the experience left a lot to be desired.

I went with the expectation of really good food and great service. The owner was there and made the experience memorable. I went today and as soon as we walked in the music was blasting, I asked for fresh chicken because their was only a spoonful in the pan and was told "we close at 8 so we are out of chicken" I was there at 7:20, I asked him for a side of chips and he charged me $2 for 7 chips. He offered to give me a dollar back after I already paid. I would go to any other location because i do love the food but due to this employee making this experience absolutely terrible. Never again! It's unfortunate when you have such a great place with such horrible employees.

Not bad. Standard assembly line burrito shop (think Chipotle). Tried the chicken, carnitas, and barbacoa. All were pretty good, but the food was completely cold when I got home and I only live a mile away.

Stopped in for a quick meal before the theatre. Food was great. We jade a bowl, chicken quesadilla and chicken nachos-- all great. Not fancy -- but great food!

Just like the others said its like an assembly line burrito place. I had a burrito with chicken, rice, quest, etc. My husband got the quesadilla which was really great. Loved the hot sauce selection. The only thing I would think could be improved is the chips and salsa! Definitely would recommend checking out.

Got the tacos: chicken, carnitas, and barbacoa. The carnitas were my favorite and the corn tortillas were nice and a perfect size. I think there was some sort of salsa on it, but it was hard to tell through the half cup of sour cream and multi colored shredded cheese, which unfortunately made my tacos cold. It certainly wasn't anything to write home about and had a very chain fast casual feel which isn't something I like for downtown Sanford.

Brand new restaurant and finally we have something close to authentic Mexican food in Sanford! Most recently I tried their newest menu item -- empanadas -- and they were absolutely fantastic. The salsas are too mild for my taste but they have plenty of jalapenos and extra bottled sauces available to add some heat. The guacamole is top-notch and they now have whole wheat flour tortillas. Try them out!

I'm so glad this little place opened up in downtown Sanford! A clean, casual restaurant that is similar to Chipotle -- except Jalapeños is authentic, local, and generally better. Had a burrito that was quite large. Well-priced delicious food! Way to go!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
