Higgins House the Bed & Breakfast

Reviews:
Very Classy place. We are from Delaware and were looking for a place to stay this past winter to get away from the snow while traveling thru Sanford, Fla. This is beyond any B&B we have stayed in before, the hosts treat you with many ammenties that are not found at other B&B. Snacks, a bottle of wine, light lunches, just a great place to stay. We hope to return in 2012 for a visit with Mr. Lou & Mrs. Sharon.

Super delighted to see this place open just a short walk from my son's residence. Was there on Friday night with my grandson. Ordered blackened catfish and baked potato. It was super delicious. ( use a little less salt guys...) Fish was fresh and delicious. Baked potato was fresh, all food good and hot. Wait staff cordial, energetic and professional. This place is tucked away but worth the effort to find it. Their dining room is open Fridays and Saturday as they do catering the rest of the week. Kitschy but nice.

Sal’s Italian Ice

2521 S French Ave
Sanford, 32773
Reviews:
First the Italian ice. It's full flavor, they have a ton of flavor choices, it's great. They have hand dipped ice cream, but I've never tried it because of the soft serve. The vanilla is the best vanilla soft serve I have ever had. It's crazy good. It tastes like frozen custard to me, as if it has more fat than the average soft serve. I alternate between dipped in chocolate or dipped in rainbow sprinkles, depending on if I'm eating it in my car or not. : ) When you layer the amazing vanilla with a fruity Italian ice in a gelati you get the best of both worlds. Free ice cream for dogs. Free small Italian ice or ice cream for active police, firefighter and EMT personnel. Seasonal treats, red white and blue Italian ice for the 4th of July, pumpkin flavored treats in the fall, egg nog ice cream for winter. On Tuesdays they have a $2 special that they announce on social media. There's only 2 or 3 parking spots, so drive thru. Getting in from the southbound side of 17-92 is a pain.
Love going up to Sal's when the ice cream craving hits! Friendly staff and a wide variety of choices. Even the pups get a free scoop!
The ice cream at Sal's is really good. I typically get a hot fudge sundae but the rest of the family gets cones and itialian ice. Everyone loves the flavors they have and the sundae's are really good. You basically get to add whatever toppings you would like and they are generous. I highly recommend it for drive thru or using their walk up window.

Moon’s Subs

204 S Sanford Ave
Sanford, 32771
Reviews:
First to review, yes!!! Not a surprise.. Nobody knows about this gem! Anyone that knows me knows that I rave about it. One of the best burgers for the money I have ever had, to date. Check it out: Place is called 'Moon Subs', they don't sell subs! It is in a not-so-good part of town in Sanford (don't say I didn't warn you and don't go there after the sun sets, real talk), it's owned by an oriental couple, and it's $5.00 for a cheese burger with fresh veggies, fries, and can soda for the lunch take out special. That is the only thing I have ever got there, ever. You won't be able to finish the burger it's so big, if I'm lying I'm dying! Fries are good, soda washes it all down. It's an experience in itself and it's the best $5.00 I have ever spent on a lunch, ironic they are located down off 3rd street from Burger King. Try it out!!
Half convenience store (with beer and lottery tickets!) and half grill/deli, you won't find anything that's more 'hole-in-the-wall' than Moon's. Or at least, I sure hope not. I got a cheese steak and it was very tasty. Nice melty onions, nice semi-greasy meat, yummy cheese and a nice soft bun. It's not Philly, but it's quite good. One tip - check your cholesterol before eating it, not after. Because wow! Note that Moon's is takeout only. There are no tables here.
This place is the definition of a "Hole in the wall". I got a burger, fries and drink combo. Tasted almost identical to a whopper from Burger King. Tasty but it was fast food burger meat. Otherwise service was fast and food was decent.

Kiko’s Pizza & Grill

4004 S Orlando Dr
Sanford, 32773
Reviews:
Ordered an Italian hoagie, yes I said hoagie. One slice of provolone one slice of ham and three slices of salami per half. I ordered it cold. I'm from the north east, Philly specifically and we take our hoagies serious. Maybe their other menu items are worth the money but their hoagies/subs are so not worth any amount of money. Again this review is strictly about the hoagie I had and I have not had any of their other food which might be great.
On a recent trip on 17-92 from Longwood, just north of the Seminole County Courthouse, the "Kiko's" sign caught my attention. I was starving so I decided to give it a try. My first impression was a very good one. I was greeted with friendly smiles and a very clean environment. They had a pretty extensive menu with the usual pizza items but I was surprised that it also included some pretty impressive dinner items, as well, such as Veal Francaise and Frutti De Mer. It was lunch and I order a small cheese pizza. It was delivered quickly to my table and was the sauce was, no doubt, homemade by the restaurant and was delicious, not to sweet, not to acidic. I have shared my experience with many of my friends and plan to return soon to sample one of their dinner entree's. Should you find yourself in the neighborhood, I highly recommend Kiko's.
We had a party of 18. It was my first time there. Mary waited on us. Just her. And she kicked butt. Had the pizza. It was yummy. I definitely will return.

Ms Pat’s Fish and Wings

405 E 4th St

Reviews:
Came here for the first time today with expectations of good fish based on other reviews. Needless to say I wasn't let down. I got their catfish basket which was seasoned well but not too much. It came with fries and hush puppies. All the food seemed fresh and cooked well (not burned or tasting like old oil like some places). So two filets of catfish, an orders worth of fries an four hush puppies for 9$ an change. Totally worth it to me. Will definitely be back.
WOOOHOO!!! I found my new fav fish place. Found this place through my fav review site (yelp) and decided to stop by to grab a bite to eat. The menu is simple and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is small but very clean and pretty nice. I ordered the Tilpia basket which came with fries and hush puppies, which is priced at $8.00.... my hubby order the Chicken gizzards with fries and drink for $6.00...and boy Oh BOY... was it GOOOOOOOD!!!!! The fish was fresh and I do mean FRESH.... fried very well to perfection. The hush puppies were super yummy! We were extremely happy to have found this place that serves fresh food. We say Ms. Pat before we left and told her how much we enjoyed our food and we will be back for sure. The restaurant is only open on Wed/Thur/ Fri & Sat... and on Sat, they open from 4pm -12am. I'll be going back tomorrow, and the next day and the next day..LOL!! I would highly recommend this place...good price.... good food... super friendly staff... and did I say the food is GOOOOOODDD!!! *GO HERE*
A Yelp event taking place in Sanford brought me to Ms Pat's as I had some time to kill and was rather hungry. The first thing you'll notice immediately upon walking in is the smell of deep fried goodies, and Ms Pat working away in the kitchen. The hard wood floors are beautiful and overall clean and well kept in my opinion for a fish n wings place. I placed my order and waited about fifteen minutes before I picked it up. I had the 8 piece wing dinner with coleslaw instead of fries. The wings were delicious, the hot sauce on the side was forgettable and the coleslaw was very tasty. I'd come back again in a heartbeat to try something else out if I'm ever in the area.

Camp House Bar & Grill

100 S White Cedar Rd
Sanford, 32771
Reviews:
Camphouse grill seems to be one of the few restaurant/bars in the area open past 9pm on a monday night. I really cant believe how spoiled i've become - but this alone just about merits 5 stars, since i could have starved to death if it wasn't for camp house. From the outside, this place looks like a summer camp mess hall. Inside - same. Who would've thought. The waitress was quick to acknowledge my presence and take my drink order. Just about everything on the menu looked pretty good. I went with the pulled pork dinner, mac n cheese and fries - the waitress took it upon herself to give me a sample of the coleslaw since i had asked about it. There is usually something i don't like about a meal and in this case it was the mac - it was a little burnt and the cheese tasted a little like crocodile nipple. Everything else was delicious. I also tried a peach margarita, which was pretty good but light on the tequila. I want to say i'm surprised that there was only 4-5 other people there last night when they have such good food / service.. but then again... every other restaurant closes at 9.. so it must've been sleepy time for sanford, FL. For barbequeish / bar food, camphouse is awesome!
Located on SR 46 on Sanford, just past Reinhard Rd. Small, open air restaurant that was enjoyable on a cool day at lunchtime. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy w/ zesty Camp House sauce, served w/ choice of sides. The sandwich was tasty and the sweet potato fries were killer. Co worker ordered the fish tacos, which I'd try next visit. Service was friendly and got us back to the office in good time.
A great dive on 46 in Sanford. Nothing is fancy,, but the food is really good. We had the junkyard sauce that is a combo of all the wing sauces on grilled wings. The wings had great grill marks and great flavor. I had a burger and tots that were really good. They have a full bar and decent beers. The servers were busy but nothing took long.

Magnolia Square Market

117 Magnolia Ave
Sanford, 32771
Reviews:
For over a year now I've been waiting (not patiently) for this German Deli to open. Having spent the majority of my childhood and part of my adulthood in Germany, I found myself craving the hearty breads, spicy mustards, and decadent baked goods I grew up with. When I finally saw the announcement of the opening of Magnolia Square, I wasted no time in going and it was sooo worth the $2 in tolls it took for me to get there! The market itself is small, and they are still stocking the shelves (most of which are bare) but what is there is phenomenal. The first place I hit up when I entered was the Beer/Wine section. Here they have many of the Beers that Hollerbach's boast on their menu....Erdinger, Tucher Kristall, Weihenstephaner Korbinian, I could go on. The bottles are large and the price is quite reasonal ($2.50 to $3.50). And if you are really wanting a german experience you can buy the matching pilsner glass. There were traditional items like mixes for potato pancakes or dumplings, seasonings, spatzle, etc, but it was the deli case calling my name. I have a weakness for Schinkenwurst and unfortunately have not been able to find it in Florida...until now! They had the ham bologna that I loved, the farmers bread to put it on and even the creamy butterkase. Wurst of all kinds, cucumer salad, everything that makes a great lunch. For around $20 I purchased 2 beers, 1/4 lb lunchmeat, a loaf of Farmers Bread, a rum ball (my splurge item) and some of the best liverwurst ever. Today I went back (a week later) and they have gotten more stock including some candies, added truffles to their baked goods, and homemade Bavarian Soft Pretzels (with and without salt)! It's definitely a diamond in the rough but I'm so looking forward to help cut and polish this little bit of Germany in downtown Sanford!
We drove from Orlando to eat at Willow Tree and it was closed (on Mondays). We found this little gem instead, looms like the same company though, and had a great lunch! The brat on pretzel bun / mustard and sauerkraut was great and only $5! They have a nice selection of German beers, desserts, sandwiches and international chips and snacks. We got some chocolate bars, sausage jerky and dessert to go (strudel and yellow cake w Bavarian cream and almonds). We also bought some Polish honey dessert wine and the cashier gave us some plastic champagne flutes on the house and chocolate cookie samples! There aren't seats inside so we grabbed some tables outside under a patio umbrella. Friendly service, great food and a cute market. Will be back again on our next trip to Orlando!!
Pure Deli. Purely delicious. Why would you get a sandwich anywhere else?

Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Cafe

Reviews:
When I tell someone I live in Sanford (which I usually follow with the phrase "It's not as bad as you think..."), they seem to usually say "Oh yeah, I love that German restaurant" as if it were a natural reflex. That being the case, it is safe to say that the Willow Tree has become a local landmark. Great place to sit outside and have a beer while feasting on Schnitzels and sausage (expect to take a box home)! Sit inside if you want to focus on the music/entertainment and sit outside if you would rather chat with your dinner companions.
Fun place to hang out. Have a German draft and chat with Theo and guests.
This folks, is a true German restaurant. The owner is from Germany and from a family that has extensive experience in food. Actually, it is owned by him, his wife and daughter - a true family run business in a day where chains get much more business than they deserve. Every item on the menu is good, authentic German fare. Portions are more than ample, but they don't try to hide mediocre food by giving big portions - everything here is done in a big way. The Hollerbach family wants you to fel like family when you are here, and you do. They are usually found walking the floor talking with guests, going from table to table - it's nice to see someone that cares about their business and their guests. The place is actually amazing - in a place like downtown Sanford, I have spoken with people that come from all over the country, and the world to eat there. In addition to the excellent menu, they have a large selection of German beers and wines in addition to a full service bar. German bands play on schedule during the week. The staff is friendly and efficient. A word of warning however - don't expect to get in and out too quickly - everything is done to order, no shortcuts taken here. Everything from breads to desserts are made on premise. The pastry chef has a gluten intolerance, so there are many gluten free items that are wonderfully prepared. To add to the experience, the family has just opened up a German style deli around the corner from the restaurant, which has items that you typically can't find in other places, as well as a large selection of gluten free products. This is truly a fun place to dine in - a restaurant run the way that a restaurant should be run. By the way - it's a good idea to make reservations - this place gets busy fast.
