Loved it. Went here because of the views we live in PCB and it was totally worth it. Started off with Calamari, so so good. Hubs had the Chef's plate that had a sampler of 3 pastas, gnoochi was so amazing I couldnt get enough. I had the special Cioppino, Seafood soup with pasta I only tasted it ( amazing) because I couldnt stop eating the rest of the food. Then we ended it with their tiramisu..OMG so good! I cant wait to go back! The service here is great, Our server was nice, attentive, and cute pregos. It is a typical loud Italian restaurant...Awesome awesome!! I forgot the warm bread with garlic oil dipping sauce was also delish!

We ate there because a friend really likes the fish there. Both my wife and I thought the place was OK, but nothing to write home about.

This place has amazing food! We went to the one on the main street, so I may have checked into the incorrect one, oops. I was also tipsy on Jester's daiquiris lol. We got pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, a bowtie pasta dish, and the bolognese pasta. YUM! We ordered to go but next time I would definitely go in and eat. It was a cozy, quaint little place and they had wine which sounded so good! Leftovers were amazing as well. We will definitely be back when we are in Destin!

Shortest review ever. Walked in and on a Monday night. Stood at the front waiting to be greeted for 8 or 10 minutes. Servers everywhere including working the cash register 2 feet in front of us multiple times - they just avoided making eye contact. They were not incredibly busy and there were many tables open as it was 8:30pm or so. Not a soul greeted us, no one looked at us, no one said -"Hey - give us a few mins" etc. After close to 10 minutes I took my family and walked right out. I know this is Destin and the clientele turns over every 7 days - but that is no excuse for this level of terrible customer service. On the flip side - the food might be great - I couldn't tell you.

This place is a hidden gem! They immediately sat a group of 18 on a Friday night AND split our checks. Portions are huge, staff incredibly friendly, and food A+++! So glad we decided to look up while walking down the boardwalk!

I just had a very bad experience here. It was busy and I guess the staff was overwhelmed. My wife's meal came out about 20 minutes before mine. No apology. No refill on the water. I had to go inside to the bar to get another glass of wine. When dinner finally came, it was FOUR raviolis. 4! I left hungry. I can see on the menu that a salad used to be included, but it has been crossed out.

Really disappointed! Worst seafood pasta ever! Especially, mussel were not fresh, bitter taste and even some of which taste too awful to swallow them. and shrimp were tough like rubber. the only thing i enjoyed was bread with gallic oil they served at first.

Went because it was recommended by our timeshare. The service was OK and I felt it was dingy dark and dirty. It is the original location there are 2 but the addresses are so similar it's confusing. I would not go there again and it's terrible to say but Carrabas is better.

Actually, I would have given 3.5 stars, but cannot do 1/2 stars on this app. Service: 2.5 to 3 stars Location: 5 stars Food: Bread & oil dipping sauce: 4 stars Mussels: 3 stars Caprese salad: 3.5 stars Pizza: 3 stars Bolognese: 3 stars Overall, food was ok to good, but not overly authentic. The bolognese was a tomato based meat sauce. A true Ragu alla Bolognese is a meat sauce that has very little tomato in it. This was just a meaty tomato sauce that was good, don't get me wrong. It's just that when the menu and server both brag up the part where the place is owned and operated by a family from Rome, Italy, you expect authentic Italian food. I understand why they do what they do. They Americanize the food to appeal to a wider audience. That's ok too, but then I would not go heavy on the whole restaurant is run by Italians thing. It gave us the wrong impression.

This place is great! I love all of the sisters! The ciopino is to die for! I also love the rack of lamb served with a side of pasta. I have never been disappointed and continue to stop in anytime I'm in Destin. Either location will work- great happy hour specials!

One of the worst restaurants I have been to in a very long time. Did not care at all and average food for a four star price; don't go here.

Perfect date night restaurant! Authentic, tasty food. One of the best pizzas I have ever had. Definitely recommend.

Look, the food was outstanding. We had white lasagna and chicken parm. It was crazy good. The only thing I did not like is that there was no hostess to greet people walking into the restaurant. Basically, my family and I stood there feeling very uncomfortable for about 15 minutes before anyone even made eye contact with us. And they were all walking past us over and over again. $10 an hour for a hostess is not a luxury. It is a necessity. Restaurant 101: You need someone to greet people as they enter the restaurant.

This restaurant was fantastic. The owner came to the table and told us all of the specials in his cool Italian accent. We had the bruschetta as an appetizer. The best I've had. I had the eggplant bars with spaghetti. For dessert we shared the baked whipped cream and a slice of a sweat cream cake. Next time in Destin we will be returning!

I've only been one time because we live in Nashville and when we go down to visit family, we usually only eat fresh seafood because, well, it's fresh seafood! Anyways, basically my whole family lives down there and they go frequently and they all love it. So finally we gave in and went and it was so good!!!! The bread, the wine, the pasta. Everything was delicious!! Everyone recommends the white lasagna and for good reason, it's pretty amazing. But it's also HUGE and very rich! Go ahead and order a to-go box when you place your order. ;) I had the bow tie pasta and it was delicious and I happened to sample everyone's dishes as well and they were all fantastic!!! I love the atmosphere here too! Very warm, friendly and feels like home. Park in the back and use the rear entrance! Once you get inside you'll completely forget that it's located right on 98! So whether you live in Destin or are visiting and in the mood for Italian, just go. You won't be disappointed!! And I will definitely be back!

"Off-the-boat" Italian charm meets Florida's Emerald Coast. It used to be, all too often, when I got a craving for Italian food, I was unforunately left with the options of pathetic uninspired hole-in-the-wall Italian eateries and over-commercialized faux-Italian establishments (such as Olive Garden and Carrabba's). No more - enter La Famiglia. Though I suspect the "Italian charm" is played up a bit, it works! The accents of most (if not all) of the employees here do create a certain atmosphere of authenticity - and they have always been very friendly! La Famiglia has carved out quite a successful niche of Destin's restaurant market. The food is often of high quality - though it isn't usually all too complex (that isn't necessarily a complaint, either). Rest assured - everything here is truly made from scratch. The flavors are agreeable and satisfying - but nothing too bold. I guess what I'm saying is that they remain true to form and play it safe. The food is understandably a bit on the pricey side, but that is the price you pay for foods made from scratch. The portion sizes can be hit or miss - on one visit, my meal left me feeling entirely stuffed - on another visit, I was given a mere FOUR ravioli's for my meal, leaving me rather unsatisfied (though having dessert remedied that). Enjoy the wide range of rotating specials offered here - there are a lot of them! The decor is "simple Italian" - clean, yet homey. The entrance feels a bit awkward, like you're entering through the back door (maybe, I have been!). Unfortunately, the parking area is marred with several deep potholes and loose gravel all around - it is in desperate need of repair. All in all, the quality of the cuisine and the friendliness of the staff - and the atmosphere it creates - makes La Famiglia a restaurant worth dining at.

Great restaurant at Harbor Walk! Food is EXCELLENT, service is quick and friendly. Brick oven pizzas are delicious! Stefania sauce on the gnocchi fantastic! Go!

This was a stretch giving this restaurant one star. Bruchetta tasted like it was made with stale bread. Our meals were extremely salty. But the crowning moment was the hair in my food that I accidently swallowed.

I had always enjoyed their original location off of Hwy 98, but I had friends come visit, who we're staying at Emerald Grande on the Harbor. We tried their Harbor location and I have to say I was disappointed with the food. Service was great, but at the lofty $20.00 to $25.00 price per plate for pasta dishes it best wow. Let me preface the taste testing - understandably we had teenagers sometimes fickle right? All adults would try and then express their opinion. With that let's begin. For appetizer we started with calamari - not are usual choice but based on the representation that the 4th of July holiday wiped them out some items on the menu were not available. No problem calamari it is. The calamari was good - not the best on the coast but good. The taste buds were ready to go. On to the mains. One of the teenagers had fettuccine - not edible - pasty, bland and just bad. The penne I had- an oily mess. The lasagna ordered by a teenager -awesome - I tried to steal from her. The shrimp dish ordered by my 10 year old- awesome - she wouldn't share more than our taste. Lobster ravioli - lobster was almost crunchy and the ravioli just ehh. I will give them another chance but I was a little embarrassed. I hope they take to heart a little quality control from each restaurant location.

4.5 stars? I don't get it!? For reals? Listen, I went in here with an open mind. I love Italian food, and I just found out about this place by reading Yelp reviews, in addition to seeing a post written by Rick Santorum, raving about this place. Maybe we went on an off night. Who knows? We were seated promptly, but the server took FOREVER to greet us, and this was after she was drooling all over the table next to us. I was starting to think we were transparent. FINALLY, we were greeted, and eventually the bread and salads came our way. Typical bread, oil, and salads. Not bad, but nothing special. For our entrees, wifey ordered chicken parmesan, and I opted for the veal. My veal was disgusting, chewy, and probably some of the worst I've ever had. Wifey's chicken was the bright spot of our meal, winning the award for mediocrity. We ate, had one glass of vino, and requested our check. Twenty minutes later, our slothful server dropped off our check. Take the under on her tip. Unfortunately, I don't predict a return visit.

Bread & Olive Oil: 5/5 - I usually stay away from the complimentary bread, but the olive oil was so good, I ate every bit of the bread. Calamari: 4/5 - It was lightly breaded, fried, & served w/ lemon & marinara sauce. Risotto Lobster: 5/5 - It was excellent in the cream sauce. Spaghetti Frutti Di Mare: 3/5 - The spaghetti w/ mussels, clams, calamari, & shrimp was bland. Service: 5/5 - My family really enjoyed dinner here. The service was excellent! Ambiance: 4/5

If you want real authentic Italian food this is the place to go! We took the whole family and we all LOVED it! I got the ravioli and I really don't like ravioli but wanted something different & authentic, so I ordered it. It was AMAZING! OMG it was so good. I will definitely hit this place up when we are there again on vacation. It was so good!

So I've been coming to Destin for 2 years and this was my first time trying this place. First of all, everyone that works there is originally from Italy; they have an authentic, strong Italian accent which makes the visit even more enjoyable in my opinion! They're all insanely nice! The bread and the dipping oil with garlic was delicious. We then ordered calamari as an appetizer. The dipping sauce was to die for. For my entree, I ordered osso bucco with fetuccine on a tomato sauce with celery and carrots. It was amazing! The meat had been cooking for about 5 hours, so the meat was falling off the bone. It had very rich flavor. My friends ordered the chicken parmesan with a side of fetuccine alfredo, gnocchi with Italian sausage and mushroom, and rib eye steak with a side of gnocchi on a parmesan cheese basket (the basket itself was delicious). Everyone was pleased with their food. We loved the place and the food. You even forget you're in Destin since it's not a tourist trap and is a truly authentic place. Would highly recommend this place!

Good food, experience was just ok. We had made reservations but they had no record of it. Although my mom clarified with him that she wanted french dressing on her salad and he said french when he brought her salad it was indeed ranch. We had to ask for rolls as we saw every other table with them. Overall pricing was good for what we ordered. Food was good and everyone was happy with what they ordered.

This is one of the better Italian restaurants I've eaten at outside of Italy. You start with bread and a strong garlic dipping oil, which is very good. Traditionally restaurants just use olive oil and cracked pepper, so this was a great change. The entrees come with a salad as well. The house dressing was pretty good, and overall the salad is good. Props for not using iceberg lettuce, which is gross. I only tried the Gnocchi with bolognese sauce, which was very good as well. The portion size is quite generous and the gnocchi appears to be handmade. The sauce was good but not over the top amazing (which is why I offered 4 rather than 5 stars). The sauce was rich but could have used a little more plum tomato and herb flavor to add a bit more richness. But overall, the dish was really quite good and this was a great dinner. The prices are also great - so I highly recommend trying this restaurant!

We went there 3 days ago. Me wife and 3 kids. We wanted to sit outside as the weather was nice. Outside tables are casual wood as opposed to inside nicer setting. I got the veal with the mushroom sauce. Amazing dish great sauce and great portions of veal. My wife got the veal with the lemon butter sauce. Awesome taste also with Generous quantity of veal. Kids meal of cheese pizza is a bargain as it is just a little smaller than the adult portion and almost half the price! My daughter got the canollini which was small quantity for the price. Overall great experience. Staff nice but little limited when asked about the dishes details if has pork or alcohol. The complimentary bread was a little chewy and stale but the olive dip was great. Overall great food so we would return in the future.

I have been to this restaurant twice now (Destin resident). I should have trusted my judgment and not gone back a second time. Food very average at best. Wait staff reasonable. Management rude. There are much better Italian restaurants in Destin e.g. Fat Clementias. I strongly recommend you read other reviews of local Italian places and dine somewhere else.

Bravo! Excellent food, authentically Italian, and in very generous portions. Not some pre-made chain restaurant type of meal. The staff is friendly and some, at least the ones that I spoke to, are part of the family. The cook is the mother herself! A bit pricey, but worth it because you are getting authentic Italian food, served by italians, cooked by Italians!

On vacation in Ft Walton and want to say this restaurant was off the chart great. The service was great, quick, and lots of fun. I had the beef shank, my wife the lasagna, and my daughter the Alfredo fettuccine (the sauce was the best). The bread and oil was unique, we went through three servings. The salad was simple but came with as awesome dressing. Park behind the building.

    (5)
  • Dora P.

Love the pizza its like I'm in italy. It's all about the sauce and they do it right. Tastes very authentic. The fettuccini is great too but a little to much oil for my taste.

Some of the best Italian food I've ever had. Saying a lot I grew up outside NYC. We had four of us and were greeted bywhat seemed like the owner of the place saying that we'd be seated shortly as they were very busy. Our waiter we think was the father of the owner! He spat off a list of specials that was larger than the menu! The bread and olive oil/garlic dipping sauce is a nice touch with salads served with a tasty homemade dressing. Don't overindulge in bread though. The servings are massive. Awaiting our table we saw pizzas, calzones and other plates come out of the kitchen and our mouths were watering. Impossible to not leave with a doggy bag. My wife had the carbonara pasta. It was originally listed with short pasta but she changed to long. It was a fantastic dish not too heavy but delish just the perfect amount of bacon. I went with the seafood stew special. It had more fish and shellfish in there than pasta and a great broth for bread dipping.. Good ambiance, nice wine list and for a seafood dominated area - a nice break while on a week vacation!

Highly recommended to us by my cousins, we made our way into Destin this weekend to try La Famiglia. We arrived right after 9 and were lucky as we were one of the last ones to be seated. It's very busy. We had a cute waitress from Italy who lapped the restaurant many times to take care of her tables. The oil and bread are delicious! It was a good distraction while she closed up with other patrons. The menu has so much to choose from...we will return on our vacation to Destin. We ordered the Lobster Risotto and the Eggplant special--they layered eggplant with ricolla, ham, and breading? I probably misunderstood some of description...and then rolled them like an eggroll shape. There were three with some pasta. I love spicy so I def needed crushed red pepper, but loved it. The risotto was as good as everyone makes it out to be. Yum!!!

  • Rick M.

Service was very good. Waiter was friendly. We ordered Boscaiola, canelloni, eggplant, and spagetti/meatballs...also 3 cabs the bill was $75. Food was authentic italian in flavor and presentation. I would recommend this restaurant to those not in a hurry...it's not fast food or a chain business. Go to Olive Garden if you want that. This is a local business owned by a local

Not sure why this restaurant got so many 5*s. Good atmosphere but the food was average. Can't really say anything was worth commenting on (good or bad wise). So if your looking for an average restaurant, this is for you.

While this is a lovely place with a great view...I feel it is overpriced for what you get...ordered a "lettuce wedge salad" $8....got 1/4 of head of iceburg lettuce with about a teaspoon of blue cheese dressing...asked for xtra and they charged me 50cents...also got about 50cents worth of pasta for my entre....will only go back for drinks...cook pasta at home...go to McGuires they give you an entire half of head of lettuce that comes "with" entre!

Absolutely as good as it gets!! I am Italian and hate eating Italian food out because it is never that good and can not compare to home cooking. I got the Meat Raviolis with Arrabiatta sauce and it was to die for! We came back two days later and I got it again. We also tried the regular sauce which definitely isn't nearly as good as the arrabiatta sauce. My 2 year old son ate a whole platter of the meat raviolis and he hardly ever eats (in the regular sauce-arrabiatta is too spicy for him). My husband got the spaghetti with meatballs in the arrabiatta sauce and loved it. The dip for the bread is soo addicting. Olive oil, garlic, and pepper flakes. We will be back again and again. Prices are average to high for Italian. With the Meatballs around $16 I think and the Gnocchi around $21. But well worth it! Service was average.

This place was made for Yelp. It's the kind of little hole in the wall with parking in the back that you would easily drive right by. Our family just stumbled on it on vacation, and lucky for us. Now we go there every year when we're in Destin. There is no doubt this is "authentic" itallian food since the first time we were there they had just came over from Itally and opened up the resturant, and at the time spoke little english. That first visit we had ~20 people in our group and the staff (which were all members of the family) made it very special. It was easily in my top 5 dining experiences of all time! As it should be, the food is the best part of this place, my favorite is the lasagna. The wine list is adequate and the staff has always been very friendly. I only wished we lived closer so we could go more often.

I came here for my birthday as a late night Saturday dinner. It had been and still was pouring rain all day and night. Called around to local places to find what was open that was not fast food. Was happy to hear they were open and would take my reservation. So my boyfriend and I arrived there, waited a moment to be sited. Had a wonderful and cheery man who is part of the family. He told us about all of the specials, so I went with a lamb or veil dish. The name escapes me at this moment but it was quite good. The portions were large enough to share for 2 if you wanted to split and not be full. My boyfriend had gotten a seafood pasta soup. All very good and we finished the night off with a tiramisu, which they had done excellently. Also such a bunch of caring people working there, watched one to interact with a family and it was so heart warming. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone if you are looking for an authentic Italian restaurant. This area does not have any with the exception of this one. Some places try but none compare.

Vacationing in Destin and found our way to La Famiglia. The food was delicious! My picky eater said, "We have to come back here before we leave!" The atmosphere was loud, but aren't Italians known to be loud? There was 1 TV in the corner. Half of our table could watch the NCAA tourney, the other half had their backs to the game. It's not a fast in/out experience, so don't go if you are in hurry. It's also somewhat pricey. 4 main dishes and 4 waters were $75. But, the food really was delicious!

I ordered a carry-out order from this cute little family run restaurant. I was expecting great things after several locals talked about the Margherita Pizza. They described it as the Best Margherita Pizza they have ever had. Obviously they have not eaten very many Margherita Pizzas in their lives. I on the other hand, have had my fair share to judge a good versus a bad Margherita Pizza. I walked in and wasn't approached for over 5 minutes as servers constantly walked by me. I waited to see how long it would take. To be exact 6 minutes and 23 seconds. Yes I counted. The carry-out order consisted of: Bruschetta, 2 house salads, and a Margherita Pizza. On their menu they call the margherita pizza the Regina Margherita. Who ever packed the order did well with the salads by putting the dressing in ramekins so the salads would not be wilted. The bruschetta on the other hand was not packed properly. The bread was extremely soggy from the olive oil and tomato bruschetta. It obviously sat in that box for a very long time before I got ahold of it. After several times trying to crisp the bread up in the oven, the actual taste of the bruschetta was good but I personally can make a better bruschetta. FYI La Famiglia, you might want to put the tomato bruschetta along with the olive oil in ramekins so that by the time your patrons eat their food at home its not a soggy mess that you could potentially receive a bad review. The house salads were basic. I wasn't crazy about their house dressing but it wasn't awful. It was edible. Now for the pizza. I love a good Margherita Pizza but this was not the best one. The dough/crust on the pizza was more like that of a Mexican pizza with the crunchy tortilla shell underneath. The classic Margherita pizza consists of basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella. The mozzarella was not very good mozzarella because it had the consistency more of a hard goat cheese. Believe me I love a good goat cheese. This mozzarella was all wrong. If they put that in the oven with the mozzarella on it, wouldn't it melt it down at all? For some reason, I feel like they forgot to put the mozzarella on and threw it on there right before they handed me the order. That makes you think though, if you worked in an italian restaurant the most basic pizza you can make would be the margherita. So my question is, how in the world could you forget to put mozzarella on it before putting it the oven. I guess the only answer I can come up with, like Forest Gump said, "Shit happens." I felt like for $40 bucks I was disappointed. Maybe I should have eaten there instead of getting a carry-out order. Don't most Italian restaurants serve bread? We were defintely skipped when it came to bread in a carry-out order. Maybe you have to ask for it. Anyway I would go back to this place but I will not be ordering the Regina Margherita, the house salad, or the bruschetta for my next experience and I will definitely eat there. I posted pictures of the food but the bruschetta was such a jumbled mess that there was really no way I was going to take a picture of that. Cheers and Enjoy!

I felt a bit rushed by the staff even though there were empty tables. The regulars definitely got better service, which is somewhat expected, but shouldn't really be super-obvious. The white lasagna was hyped up in the local press, but it was a bit overwhelmed by the white sauce and I feel like it had been sitting around in a pan all day because it was room temperature. The manicotti on the other hand was great and tasted like it was fresh out of the oven. The house Italian dressing was interesting, more like a puree than a dressing. I don't think I'll be going back.

We got the chicken parm and eggplant parm. Neither my wife or I were impressed. To me this is a very "safe" choice for families. It tasted like any other small town Italian I've ever had. The sauce was salty and seemed more like it came from a jar instead of being made fresh. Our service wasnt great or terrible either. Our waitress knew nothing about the menu, but in the end our specific orders were correct. I am not saying it was terrible. We didn't hate the experience. But for the high rating it had on yelp, we were expecting a more authentic Italian experience. We won't go back for a date night, but we will probably take the kids there.

SO GOOD!!! My husband and I tried this place while in Destin and we loved it. Both of our dishes where authentic and very tasty. The service was great and the atmosphere was cozy and romantic. We had a great experience. They had a large variety of dishes in the price range of $12 - $35.

So tonight was not the first time I've eaten at this restaurant however it has been almost a year. Tonight was however the worst time. I actually really like the food here and have since my first visit at the original location about 3 years ago. We arrived a little before 7 and it was not very busy. Maybe 8 tables where already there. We got walked by 2 times with a hello or anything before we were approached. We asked to sit by the view so our children could enjoy the amazing sunsets. This restaurant has a perfect view. A busser had our water glasses full within a few minutes however we needed kid drinks too. They brought out a few waters a few minutes later then at least five minutes went by before I stopped 1 of the 10 people who kept walking past us if we had a waiter. The servers purposely didn't look at us because they weren't our server. A few minutes past then a girl pointed out to our server that we were his table. He wasn't 1 who originally looked past us Now I am a server at a high volume, huge grossing and mid price restaurant and I'm great at my job. I was patient and observant of what all was going on. The server came to us and I asked for 2 sprites for my 5 year old and my friend's 3 year old daughters. Then I asked about specials. The server knew the descriptions but was very hard to understand. I have been around tons of people with accents from all over the world. We understood about 40:% of what was said. I could see most guests understanding none. He asked a busser to get 2 sprites while describing dishes, they brought them in glasses instead of Styrofoam. I poured them in the original water cups they brought earlier. We ordered the kids food right away because it was already late for them to eat and they were both acting up. Then when he came back we ordered. A few minutes pass and the kids food comes. I asked for the bread that usually comes with the bread at this time. Then he brought the salads which I'm not a fan of Italian dressing so I asked him to get me a dry salad . It was almost instantly brought. I never try to hold a server up knowing what all the job takes and how everything goes. I looked for cracked pepper and saw 1. I just cut up and took care of my daughter waiting for him to return. I asked him for cracked pepper and I'm pretty sure I was the first person ever to ask him for it because he grabbed a pepper shaker off the table behind me so I pointed at what I meant. He dropped the cracker on table and left. I got a kick out of that because everyone should know the server does the "Say when?" And distributes the pepper. Not a bid deal. Now the bussers are also foreign which is cool with me. They took plates from the table as I set them aside, filling waters pretty frequently. Big plus. Our food comes and looks great except for my sauce was a little watery looking and my friends grouper special looked like it had extra butter or oil that had broken from the sauce. Still tasted good on both plates. My daughter had asked for spaghetti and meatballs and she wanted fettuchini Alfredo so I ordered a side of that with my meal. It didn't come w meal so I reminded him. It came out immediately but the sauce looked like straight milk. I stirred and stirred and a few minutes it became more creamy and we both loved it. I am not complaining just detailing experience seeing how this is not an inexpensive meal. The server did ask us how everything was and didn't do a bad job I just believe he was not very experienced at serving and may be new to our area and possibly America. Again that's cool and I'm perfect to learn on. Everyone enjoyed the meals and we got 2 Togo boxes. After paying I asked a girl who I assume if there were bags on right there and pointed to the black stations with Togo boxes and water pitchers and the pepper cracker and she said no. I'm almost positive I saw them. I just walked off and my friend and I discussed our experience in which I said they will drowned in summer if they can't handle a slow Thursday seeing how busy Harborwalk village usually is. My friend said "Mimmos kills La Famaglia!" We eat there often and its prices are better and so is the food usually just no breathtaking view. They have 1 more chance for me before I just never return nor continue to recommend anyone go there because I tell my tourist customers about other spots I enjoy and where I don't recommend. Service is at least half if not more of a dining experience. Ps. We still tipped fat because we're both in service industry.

My husband had the white lasagne and said it was amazing. I ordered the fettucine Alfredo and added chicken. Adding chicken was the only downfall...tasted boiled or steamed. I ended up taking it out and completely enjoying the rest of the pasta. Delicious and would return! The service was really good, the waitress recommended the lasagne. The bread and olive oil they give you is fantastic! Went for an early dinner on a Saturday night and got a table with a beautiful view of the bay.

My favorite Italian restaurant in america. Everything on the menu is amazing.. my favorite is the white lasagna, chicken parmengean, and pasta de stefano.. the family is from Rome so this is the real deal!

Brought the whole family in for a Christmas season meal. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Waitress was impressively engaging, remembered one of our party who had come in previously, and memorized our order. Portions were huge so we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Only minor detail was they didn't use real Prosciutto on my veal...to their credit, the waitress caught me eating some of my daughters gnocchi and insisted on knowing why. She said several customers complained about salty Prosciutto so they were forced to use ham...she promised to use it next time we came. True Italians, real Italian food, very highly recommended. 4.8 out of 5

Three stars for slow service and high prices. We ordered eggplant parmesan and mahi mahi (specials) with red sauce. Eggplant was $17 and Mahi mahi $30. At this price I wud have found several that are similar or better. Food was good. I loved my mahi mahi and wife found her eggplant ok. If you dont mind the high price and look forward to spending a lot of time, you may like it.

Outside you may be fooled into thinking this place isn't much, but once you enter, the aroma tells a different story. From the chopped garlic, spice, & olive oil for your bread, to the main course (with an extensive list of specials), to the exquisite dessert selection - everything was wonderful. Portions were large, so bring an appetite. The staff was all excellent as well, something that many restaurants seem to miss these days. Despite his young age, our server was articulate, knowledgeable, and always on top of everything. Even side staff was ready to assist at the drop of a hat and I noticed that the other servers at the surrounding tables were equally good. I am thoroughly impressed. The only reason I do not give a 5 is due to the by the glass wine selection. It is dismal. My husband's red was terrible and so was the 2 I had (first one sent back). We knew we only both could drink one glass and thus a bottle doesn't make sense. To have such great everything else, they need to have decent by-the-glass wine offerings. Even if they have to charge more for them (I'd pay!) Food is delish. Don't miss this great little hide away.

Dropped in during my vacation with family, 4 of us dined and I have to say I was skeptical at first. White holiday lights, napkins stuffed into the water glasses and TV's in the dining area are usually the sign of an amateur establishment. I was surprised to hear a few of the waitstaff with Italian accents, the whole family just moved here a couple of years ago. I went for the trusted standby of spaghetti and meatballs, if you can't get this right the rest of the menu has to be suspect. Noodles were lightly firm, the marinara sauce was one of the top 3 I've ever had. The meatball was true to its origin comprising of beef, veal and pork- and was delicious but a tad bit rubbery on the outside. A problem easily fixed. For desert I went right to the Tiramisu with a double Espresso, the cake portion could have been lighter and not so flaky but the taste and temperature were outstanding. Love the espresso cups too! All in all the others at the table finished their entrées and were extremely happy with their selections. We all look forward to our next trip to La Famiglia.

Looking for a authentic Italian restaurant and decided to try this place based on the recommendations on Yelp. Ordered Chicken Limone which was average. It wasn't terrible, just forgettable. The Italian salad dressing was heavy on the garlic and wasn't very favorable. Our bread was a little on the hard side but the olive oil was pretty good. Hubby had the meat ravioli with marinara sauce, which seemed a little thin. Overall, the meal was just okay. Nothing to write home about. I was looking for amazing not average.

Not what it used to be. This was a spectacular and authentic Italian restaurant and became a home to many locals but they have lost their way like so many others in town. The owners are no longer doing the cooking and the food is nothing like it used to be. I'm really sad that this place has turned into the typical touristy grease pit. It was my favorite for over a year and frequently recommended by me. No longer. And I don't know who wrote that the tiramasu is good here but it hasn't been good since a month after they opened. Their desserts have never been their strong point. I hope some day it will go back to what it was but I doubt I will ever return to find out.

I can't believe it took us this long to learn about this place! We arrived around 6pm on a Friday night in the off-season, and it was already packed. Without a reservation, we were told we would have to wait a few hours. Thankfully, the owner (I think) saw us and invited us to sit and dine at the bar. My wife and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and found the combination to be about the best on the Emerald Coast.

We went for the first time and it was just okay, not super great. My boyfriend has the chicken parm which he said was good but not mind blowing. I had a seafood soup and it had octopus in it which I LOVED but they were gummy and the clams were so tiny I would rather they just skipped them. The mussels were good but like the octopus were a bit gummy. I assume they make batches of soup and leave them to simmer because my seafood would've probably been awesome if it had been cooked to order. Overall I was underwhelmed.

After reading all the reviews we had to try this place. The bread and olive oil was good but that's about it. Food was terrible, if this place is the best Italian in Destin I hate to see what the worst is. Of the 5 dishes our party ordered, two was edible. Not great but edible. Place is small and crowded so be prepare to wait a bit.

EXCELLENT FOOD! We could tell from when we walked in that Yelp gave us a winner. Huge list of specials, and you can tell it is all homemade. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Excellent gnocchi and the best tiramisu we ever had. Only thing that kept this from beig 5 stars was slightly over cooked veal and the server seemed slightly overwhelmed on a Tuesday with no wait.

We went to the original location last night after 8 and the place was packed! The wait staff was very friendly though and were doing their best to get people seated quickly. The bread and dipping oil was delicious and while the house salad wasn't anything to rave about, it still beats out other places (like Babe's chicken!). Every person working there was friendly and coming over to help us at our table. They were all very knowledgeable on the menu items and our waitress was honest about a certain menu item not being up to par that night. My husband got the lasagna (which was a VERY large piece) and I got the lobster ravioli, which for me was the perfect portion, but if you're starving you may want to get something else We were able to talk a little with the manager, I believe, and were told that sometimes when they get busy they'll ask if strangers will want to sit together and they end up becoming friends! Being from an Italian family myself, I loved that! It's all about coming together to have great food and great conversations! We both were very pleased and full when we left and will probably be stopping in again before we head back home.

We ate at this two nights in a row cause my family liked it so much. There are two locations that are in Destin. The one we went to was in a hole in the wall strip mall. We actually passed it the first night. I thought the seating was pretty nice. Servers were very friendly. Menu was a little pricey, I thought. They started off with bread and oil dip. It was pretty good. Heavy on garlic probably for some, but tolerable for most. I ordered the Pasta Stephania. They brought me a house salad. I could have probably just skipped it. It's basically a handful of iceberg salad and a tomato. I think for what your paying,it could be use a little more effort. The Pasta Stephania was a special told by the waitress which at the end of our meal I asked "If the specials were on a daily or weekly basis?" She said "It was always the special." So I'm not so sure what made it special then. But nonetheless, it was soo good!! We also tried the bruechietta, ravioli, and pizza which all had their own great taste. But the Stephania was the best in my opinion. We also had dessert, but nothing blew me away there. I will definitely come back here and try some more things. Two thumbs up!

I have been here a few times now, most recently for my Fiancees birthday, and we have never been disappointed. The family friendly service, the quiet atmosphere and the amazing food make for a great night out. All of the staff are very knowledgeable of the menu and can describe in great detail the plentiful offerings. They even have a sense of humor and will give one of our guests a little bit of a hard time for playing it safe with Lasagna =) We had the seafood fettuccine and the Steak with gnocchi and vegetables...it was awesome! Cant wait to go back again!

Wanted to support this Italian family owned restaurant with five stars but had too many problems. Short wait at peak dinner hour but sat at table neglected far too long waiting for menus and forrreeverrr for water. Understaffed? Our waiter was new but only told us about one special and couldn't answer our questions. We got about a dozen specials by asking another server. Steamy Grouper over pasta with calamata olives and capers in tomato sauce was best meal I had in Destin. Prices also a bit more reasonable than the touristy places. Two of 4 meals however came out cold and were sent back to kitchen...there's no excuse for cold food. Located in nondescript older building. Would try again...hope you get a different server and hope management reads this to improve training/quality control.

Quaint family owned and legit old country Italian. Tiramisu buono. Canoli great texture. Osso bucco, Cioppino with local seafood, fettucine bolognese. Cappuccino to finish. Great service. This place is a do over. Oh and nice pizza also, but do the entree's.

This locally owned and operated Italian restaurant is amazing! The food was a little on the pricey side, but absolutely outstanding! I asked for a side of alfredo sauce at one point, and they actually went back to the kitchen and made it on the spot. No spooning it from a giant pot of alfredo for me! When they make the sauces on the spot for each dish, that's quality. This place is classy and small. I wouldn't say "dressy" but not completely "casual" either. A polo and shorts would suffice here.

I have been coming to the Destin area for 15 years. My wife and I stumbled upon this place by accident by looking for a pizza joint (tired of eating all the local seafood for the week). This has been by far one of the best meals that I have had in this area since coming to this area for vacation. I've been to many of the tourist trap restaurants, and had always walked away feeling somewhat disappointed, especially with spending upward in the $30 range for an entree. We dined with our three kids. The kids cheese pizza was enormous and enough for all three. The bread service was pretty good; better than most (Olive Oil, Red Chili Flakes and Grated Parmesan with warm crusty bread). My wife ended up having a calzone. It was good, but the marinara sauce was fantastic. The real highlight of the night was the special veal chopped stuffed with thinly sliced prosciutto cooked to perfection. Topped with a generous portion of sautéed roasted wild mushrooms and asparagus. The sauce was a beef stock Marsala wine reduction. It was also served with some steamed broccoli. t was one of the best veal chops I have had. The price on the special was $32 (many of the items are reasonably priced $15-$25), some would find that a lot, but I was completely satisfied with the value. Presentation of the dishes are a bit old school.....but who cares when it taste so good.....Looked around at many tables; the calamari looked out of control good.... The trio of lasagna, gnocchi with pesto, & fettucini Alfredo.....the grouper almondine....rib eye steak with gorgonzola sauce, they all looked fantastic. I am in the restaurant business...its all I have ever done. I am usually hyper critical on restaurants, but this joint exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately I will have to wait till next year to come back. I was surprised to find out that this place was only open for 18 months....owners are straight of the boat italian.......they will be around for many years. Go now, while they are still a hidden gem.

ROCK STARS in the Italian eatery experience. Stephanie (our AMAZING waitress) knew the ENTIRE menu and how to describe everything. Take a tip from me, let her pick your next dinner, you won't be disappointed. We had Calamari and a La Rustica Pizza. The calamari were succulent, tender and delicately seasoned. Just the right amount of bite, NOT chewy and as I'm writing this my mouth is watering and I want more RIGHT NOW! The pizza was near perfect...if only it was bigger and never ending would it be better...A guy can wish right? LOL! The bread and olive oil, while seemingly simple, was like heaven. Steph's knowledge of the wines was spot on as well. What a wonderful total experience....you're missing out if you fail to negotiate Destin traffic to get to this gem. I rated this place as: Romantic, Classy, Intimate, Casual and Upscale. You're probably wondering how it can be casual, and upscale....well you need to go see what I mean. When you get seated and just breathe...and look....and enjoy...you'll have one of those "AHHHHH" moments and understand exactly what I mean!

My wife and I went because of the reviews. having had several bad experiences in Destin with some of the seafood places we decided a change to Italian might be nice. From the outside, it looks pretty bland. You have to park behind the building in a dirt and gravel lot. Once inside though, the place kind of grew on us. we were quickly seated and well taken care of entire time we in the place. Our waitress was nice, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. It is indeed a family affair of real italians who seem to enjoy what thay do. IWe had the sampler of meats and cheese for an appetizer. It was huge and could almost be a meal itself. It had a great flavor and was fun to nosh on while we waited for our meal. The salad was fresh and simple. I had the Fettucine Bolognese which was made the old school Italian Nonna way... Cook several cuts of meat and sausage and meatballs for hours in a tomato sauce and all that flavor distills down to a meat sauce you can not pour from a jar! My wife had canneloni in a alfredo sauce... she liked it immensely. If i lived in the area I would eat here regularly.

Wonderful food and attentive service. Went with three very senior citizens who are very choosy about their Italian food. Everyone was happy with the food and service. I ordered the pasta sampler plate: good sized samplings of lasagna, gnocchi with pesto, and fettuccine Alfredo. Delicious. Our meals came with a fresh salad with homemade dressing (and a ripe tomato slice) and crusty bread with an olive oil dipping sauce. Service was paced well and friendly.

La Famiglia Italian Restaurant is easily a five star establishment. A couple issues reduce it by one. Let's get those out of the way first. Our server was somewhat inattentive and spoke faster than the speed of sound, making it difficult to grasp the various specials offered. Also, we finished dining at 6 PM and asked for a piece of their homemade tiramisu to go. We were told the woman that makes it arrived at 4 PM but had not yet "gotten around to making it". An Italian restaurant without tiramisu for desert should be ashamed. OK, now the why behind the four stars. Excellent food and a nice, warm, inviting atmosphere. I had chicken parmesan and my wife had fettucine bolognese. Both were fantastic, each with a rich, hearty sauce. The bread served with their crisp, fresh salads, are individual loaves that are delicious but extraordinary with the olive oil/garlic dip. I suggest adding balsamic vinegar to it as well. We've visited Destin, in October, for 11 years and we've seen many restaurants come and go. We certainly hope La Famiglia is one of those that stays around for many years to come.

The great service is only surpassed by great food. Very ample servings, providing nice leftovers for lunch. Very reasonable wine prices. I prefer the fresh pastas to the large meat entrees. However, the osso bucco if awful good.

Ate a stuffed veal chop ordered mid rare came well done...Chicken limon...horrible did not finish either meal. Brought home the leftovers and let a friend try... one bite..spit it out and said disgusting. I can't believe so many people in Destin are eating at this place. I had heard so much about this place and expected the best Italian food ever...definitely the worst! The service was good. The house wine bad. Really, don't open a restaurant, say you are from Italy and let others cook your food. Get back in your kitchen, cook your food and do it right.

This place was amazing. It's located in an unassuming, understated building - in fact from the main street, the place actually looks a bit dumpy. But when you drive around to the back, park your car, and then walk in the back entrance - you find yourself in a little piece of Italy brought to FL!! This place just opened, and the owners literally just came from Italy. I am Italian - and I know good authentic ITALIAN food. NOT Italian-American food. They know how to do it, and they do it right. The service is terrific and the food speaks for itself. I was with a large group of 12 - and tasted several dishes (including the snapper, lasagna, garlic spaghetti, pizza, gnocci) and they were all amazing. They couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating! We all left with very happy tummies. I was sad that we found this place on the last night of our vacation, because I'll have to wait for next year's vacation to go back. And I will definitely go back!

First - they are now in Destin Commons in the old Hard Rock building next to Bass Pro. Second - true, authentic Italian family owned and run. It's not perfect (you're not in NYC, Chicago or The Hill in St Louis...) but it's very good. Pesto is terrific and you would be wise to ask about their specials. We'll be back.

We went to the restaurant early as we would be ready for the Tuesday parade and there where only one more table occupied when we came. The servant was so much in a hurry that she did not take the kids drink order. When we asked about the pizzas we were under the impression that that they were single serving pizzas, and they are not, 2 adults can easily share a pizza. One of us ordered the veggie pizza but with added prosciutto. We were not given the food at the same time because they could not handle more than 3 pizzas at the same time and the pizza that was ordered with prosciutto came without because they were out of prosciutto. They did not bother telling us in advance and give us the chance to change it to something else. We asked if they could add something else instead, but was told that the pizza was already served. They were not very attentive and we had to ask for soda refills. When we got the check they had already added 20% gratuity since we were more than 6 persons, I managed to get them to remove it and put what I thought they deserved. In general the food was good but to overpriced and the service was horrible. Typical tourist trap.

Extremely disappointing!!! The wine list is so limited and the pricing was actually higher than posted on the menu. The service was marginal. We sent back the spinach salad because it was just a small amount of sautéed spinach for $6. The chicken limone was so tart it was not eatable and the pasta was severely under cooked. We sent it back too. The pizza, spaghetti w/ meatballs and manicotti was good. The manager then came to the table to tell us that we would still be charged for the food we sent back even though we didn't eat it. I hit the roof!!! What horrible service!!! They did not even clear the table. We will not be back.

Shocked that this place only got 3.5 stars. The ambience over the water and Harbor Walk was so pleasing n happy. The mojitos with natural fruit were amazing and seriously the best I've had (no syrup; real strawberries or watermelon chunks). The pizza was also very impressive (and I'm not easily impressed with pizza) - tasted very fresh & home-made: perfect thin crust with real mozzarella, and artichoke & feta pizza or margherita (basil) was amazing. Would definitely come back.

Before my trip to Destin, I yelped a few restaurants in the area for my next dinners that upcoming week, and this restaurant was one of them. I came in Monday night seeking some great Italian food. We were greeted and told we'd have to wait 30 minutes or so for a table, which was fine with us. After being seated, we realized how nice of a restaurant it was, despite their location. It is family owned, so I'm guessing a few of the workers there must be related. Anyways, we started with drinks and some bread + olive oil, which were perfect appetizers. The bread is fresh & warm, and the olive oil is not bland. We were then asked for our orders, which consisted of three things off the specials & one order of fetuccine Alfredo w/ chicken. All dishes were brought out almost at the same time, and the portions were nice & big for the price you pay. They were all flavorful, and came with a side salad of your choice, which was great! The menu does not have many options but they are all great. I'd say more about the food, but you'd have to go in and taste it for yourself. Hopefully my pictures do some justice to our dishes. The only thing I must warn you about, and the reason it didn't win me completely over, is the wait. Throughout my dinner, I noticed only four people on the floor attending the restaurant. It seemed a bit chaotic and I'm sure many got anxious for their dishes, but please have patience! Believe me, the food is filling and well done, it can potentially be worth the wait.

This place used to be a great little spot. But then it got popular, and it seems to me the owners got "cocky" and put in two ridiculous locations and raised the prices dramatically. A kids meal, is 7$ they wanted 20$ for some fettuccine Alfredo (that's with out chicken or what ever you would like to add). I live in destin, but I'm from Chicago, and still have much italian family still there and when I told them the prices for what this establishment wants for a plate of food they said if was very high, and you don't really even see prices like that in the city if Chicago where you know you'll get great italian food. It's a shame to see this place turn into a tourist trap like the rest of Destin has turned into, very sad. Used to love this place!

Not impressed at all. The dipping oil was full of garlic which was just too much and I love garlic. I ordered chicken parm and it tasted like it was a frozen chicken breast. The breading was really soggy. Our service was terrible. Definitely not going back. Olive Garden would of been a better choice. Worst Italian food I've ever had.

This has to be some of the worst italian food I've ever eaten. We ordered a shellfish dish that was supposed to to be spicy and it was exactly the opposite, not to mention more than half od the shells were not open indicating under cooked shellfish. We've never experienceed food so bland. The pizza crust has an authentic feel unfortunately its covered in toppings of lesser quality than pizza hut. If your in this area and want real italian food, try tradewinds in Niceville. This might place might work for tourists but we will never go back.

Horrible experience. The waitresses pressured us into getting the most expensive food on the menu. She literally told me "No you don't want that" when I tried to order something else. The food was authentic but flavorless, and just plain not that good. I paid $79 for two lunch portion meals and one appetizer. No drinks, sodas, desserts, or extra bread. Yeah they charge for the bread. The pushy overbearing wait staff made the whole experience uncomfortable. The Husband said "Olive Garden's worst was better than that meal". There were no dipping sauce or flavor on his shrimp. :-(

We went to this restaurant after a recommendation from the hotel staff. This is a family operated restaurant in a very commercial area. Do not let that stop you. We went on a Friday night. There was live entertainment - not the greatest but not the worst either. What the singing lacked the food made up for. My wife had the spaghetti with meatballs, my son the chicken parm and I had the chicken with bow tie pasta in vodka sauce. All were very good. The bread service was also very good. After seeing and smelling the pizza at the next table we are considering another visit. The only reason for the four star rating is that the service was slow. We were seated immediately on the patio but it took a bit of time for our drink order, appetizer order and meal order. We will be back though.

Food good...overpriced. Dipping sauce good and plenty of it but Very stingy with the bread. A slice per person. If you get more than 2 slices per person they charge you extra. Carpet dirty. Service was bad. Very disappointed.

Best Italian restaurant I've ever been to. As for the pasta arrabiata which isn't on the menu any more but is amazing. Staff/service generally great and love the location with view of the Harbor!

This is the original location, clearly this confuses people because the addresses are similar and if you're just visiting you really have no idea where you are...ever. As a local I've been a fan of this family owned/operated restaurant since they opened. The food is really good, the service is friendly and efficient and the prices are fair. Yes they get busy and that slows down the service a bit but there's a reason for that...the food is worth the wait, just relax have some vino and enjoy the experience. I love the manicotti with alfredo sauce it's quite unique and the oil for dipping your (complimentary) bread has lots of chunks of fresh diced garlic, it's awesome! This particular location is in a small, slightly dated and dark space but I enjoy that aspect of it, seems like your in an Italian families house for dinner. Also parking kind of stinks, you pull around the back of the building into a gravel lot, but it is what it is. Get inside and enjoy a hearty meal!

After 4 years this place is still amazing. The grouper over spinach special is incredible. You won't be disappointed with this place.

Keep the chef. Best red gravy I ever had. Pasta was cooked perfect. Get rid of the manager. Staff overwhelmed and frustrated. Took a long time to get seated. Out of several items. Waitress nice and pretty good. No one seems to be in charge. Owner needs to decide whether he wants to own a restaurant or not.

Good was very good. Loved the red sauce. I believe they are currently understaffed, so getting a table was slow. The kids ordered pizza and in true Italian style crispy thin crust pie was delivered. they loved it ( but what kid doesn't like pizza) My veal parmigiana and my wife's veal Marsala were both tender and savory. No leftovers on this table.

This is the best, most authentic Italian in the Panhandle of Florida- maybe even the Southeast!! The servers well versed in all aspects of the menu, some of the best service we have ever had!!! Francesca and Janie are amazing and passionate about what they do, they love their jobs, the food and the people they work for!!!! Not let's talk about the food- lamb chops cooked perfectly on arugula salad with a side of spaghetti but they will sub gnocchi for an up charge!!! Veal chop I'm creamy mushroom sauce was cooked to perfection with gnocchi !!

Wait for the specials to be communicated before ordering. And listen carefully. It's a lot to take in...A couple of the specials tonight was the "Cioppino & The White Lasagna". We started with cocktails, then the Garlic bread and olive oil was delivered while we were waiting on drinks. I new at this point we were in for a treat. This bread and oil is as good as I have ever eaten. Warm small loafs of Garlic Bread that melts in your mouth with garlic roasted olive oil. YUM! We then got a appetizer of Calamari that light, simple and Fantastic. For our Entrée's we got; The "Cioppino"; This is truly a work of culinary art! A Fish Stew/Soup with Mussels, Clams, Shrimp, Lobster, Squid in a lite tomato base broth with spaghetti noodles. WOW! This can be shared without a problem. Divine! The White Lasagna was also spectacular. Very rich - Delicious The Tiramisu & Chocolate Cake was also a very good choice. They were out of the Cannoli when we ordered desert. I rarely give 5 stars. But the overall value for the obvious fine food quality forced me to rate this as one of the few 5 star meals I have eaten in Destin. This without a view of the Gulf or anything fancy about the resturant. Without question, I will visit this place again for authentic Italian cuisine with a fresh Destin seafood flair.

Great value! The food is solid, nice topping heavy pizza with a good firm crust. Two glasses of good red wine and half a pizza for under $20. Can't beat that! The waitress was a bit flighty and forgot our salad order, but we didn't need the food anyway.

It was just ok. Not bad but not anything to write home about. Had the stuffed eggplant special spinach, Prosciutto and Gorgonzola. Like I said it wasn't bad but could have been better. Maybe crusted and pan fried like eggplant parmesan. It was mushy not bad flavor. One of our tables order was messed up and the server seemed so nervous that 4 of us couldn't understand what she was saying. Come to find out it was a mix up on the sauce that was ordered which they would have eaten had we been able to decipher what she was saying. If you want extra bread it is $1.00. Not sure if that is a piece or an entire order, since I asked for an extra piece and was charged but she comped the table extra for the kitchen mistake. She forgot things brought wrong things. To give her credit she tried. Would I recommend it? Maybe. Try for yourself see if you have a better experience. The bread with garlic dipping sauce and homemade dressing were very good. Great portions for the price. Rest of the meal kinda blah. I think there are better options and let's face it we are on the Gulf where Italian cuisine probably don't match.

There are (for some reason) a lot of Italian restaurants in Destin, and while many of them are good, this one, all things considered, is the best. Behind its humble facade is a legit Italian restaurant for dining out. And I do mean dining, so if you have a movie to catch in 45 minutes, go open a can of Chef Boyardee and catch all the previews. La Famiglia is a place to relax and enjoy good Italian food. The staff is very friendly, the food is delicious and the ambiance makes you feel like a guest in someone's home. But you need to take your time here.

We had 18 ppl and this place handled us with ease. Everything we ordered was incredible. I ordered the calamari and even though it was an appetizer it was enough for an entree. "My Little Chef" seafood dish was also amazing. Service was impressive. Seriously to handle 18 folks and food come out on time and perfect deserves praise.

Amazing food! I had a dish that was supposed to be served over rice, but substitutes the rice for fettuccine pasta. Lobster & shrimp with vodka sauce over fettuccine. WOW. It was super delicious. Their dipping sauce with the complimentary bread is fantastic if you are a garlic person. Calimari is fried to perfection & served with a marinara sauce. I was hoping they had a garlic aioli sauce, or some type of white sauce and they unfortunately didn't. Great Lambrusco (red wine) and very professional & personable service. If you have the chance to eat dinner here during sunset, do so outside if weather permits. It's absolutely beautiful!

So ... where shall I begin? After reading pretty decent reviews on various sites, my husband and I decided to try this restaurant on our "date night" while on vacation. We parked in the crowded lot behind the restaurant and headed in to be seated almost immediately which was nice. The waitress said she had been working there for almost 13 years and she was VERY knowledgeable about the entire menu. She rattled off the daily specials along with a few of her favorites and we were left to decide our dinner fate. We started of with the bread and seasoned olive oil to dip it in which was probably my most favorite part of the whole meal. Well - actually my glass of Prosecco took the cake but aside from that it was the bread and olive oil. My husband ordered a Penne pasta with spicy sauce and had them add a chicken breast to the top and I ordered a Margherita pizza. We also asked for two side salads with their "made-fresh-daily" Italian dressing. The salads came out and consisted of approx. 1/2 cup of lettuce, a few carrot pieces, one olive, and a sliver of tomato. The dressing was pretty decent but we would have enjoyed a little more salad with the dressing. My husband was unable to eat his dish due to the abundance of oil that you could see separating out of his sauce. He is a chef so he is pretty understanding of the different cooking styles but the amount of oil that was pooling around his dish was quite honestly disgusting. We politely commented on the excessive use of oil when the waitress asked how things were and she said she would talk to the manager. She came back about 10 minutes later and said, "I talked to the chef and he says that's how its supposed to be". She never offered to fix the problem, just left the full plate of food that he wasn't going to eat in front of him and charged us for it anyhow. My pizza was subpar - the crust was super thin which caused all the sauce and cheese to force it to be soggy in the middle. EEK! All in all - not the best Italian food ever! We went in with hopes that it would be like our local favorite date spot in Dallas (Momo's) and it wasn't even in the same league! We paid our $50 bill and headed home very disappointed.

Not authentic in any way shape or form. On par with the Olive Garden and at least twice as pricey. I had the Chicken Parm, and the meat tasted frozen, while the sauce tasted like straight canned tomato sauce, no spices. The dipping oil for the bread was tasty, but not worth the $25 a plate price tag. You pay for the location, which is great, right on the Harborwalk. The service was fast, but we were having an early dinner and it wasn't super crowded. I don't mind paying a lot for a good meal, but this wasn't it.

Tried this place for the first time while on a mini-vacation in Destin. We wanted something different other than the many seafood places nearby. The restaurant is authentic. Nicely decorated with an elegant feel inside. The food was great! I ordered the eggplant parmigiana plate which was flavorful and beyond what I expected. The mozzarella on top the eggplant was fresh. The entire dish was baked with perfection. My date ordered the Spaghetti al Mare plate with the white wine sauce. He said the seafood was flavorful, although the pasta that came with it lacked a little flavor. The sauce was on the lighter side. The bread and olive oil dipping sauce was also wonderful. Lots of garlic, which I love! Even though the food was wonderful, the service turned us off a bit. When we walked in, it was unclear to us where the hostess station was. We stood there for a good 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. It was during the peak dinner hours so it was busy but we just expected to be greeted when we first walked in. Once we were finally seated, our waitress failed to mention the dinner specials to us since we overheard her mentioning it to the table next to us. Nonetheless, the food balanced out the below average service. Hopefully they were just having an off night for their service. Will return again just because I was impressed by their eggplant parmigiana.

Recommended and Wow what a disappointment ! Wooden corner table was sticky sticky ! Had to use a napkin as a buffer for my forearm . Ordered food and received it wrong, food was returned okay until we tasted it. We both ordered panini sandwiches, fresh food I think not !! Sent back wife's panini because it was burnt and my grilled Chicken Panini never hit the grill. 1:15 on a Thursday and only 1 other couple in place. Dirty dishes all over the place and a waiter who couldn't remember to bring anything back ( asked for ketchup 3 times ) . Sorry but look for another lunch venue or eat here and bring some hand sanitizer and Tums.

Decided to finally try this place after receiving a coupon for a good deal and hearing good things about it. I tried the Lobster Risotto and my dining partner had some type of pasta with salmon in the pink vodka sauce, which was the same sauce that was in my entrée. Both dishes were flavorful. The salads that preceded our dinner were fresh, and the tiramisu, served in a martini glass, was excellent. We didn't experience the long waits that a few of the Yelp reviewers have complained about.

This place is amazing. Having lived in northern Italy for many years rating Italian food is very difficult for me because many times it has been Americanized. This place is run by and Italian family and every item of food on the menu reflects that. From the bruschetta to the Bolognese and the cannoli, everything about this place says Italy.

I'd like to start by saying that if I could give this place less than one star, I would. I don't know where to start with what upsets me the most about this place. First of all, with being in the heart of Destin's tourist area, the location is the best thing I have to say about my experience. Once we finished this train wreck of a dining experience I was able to stroll outside to watch the ball drop and fireworks in the harbor. I've really been looking forward to bringing my girlfriend there since I moved to the area. I haven't been this let down in a long time. I reserved a table for two on NYE. When we walked in the door, the place was packed and I was immediately put off. There is no hostess stand and the crowding at the front door was basically standing in the middle of the over crowded dining area, and spilling over the tables where people were already sitting for dinner. After watching people that didn't have reservations get sat at pretty nice spots, I was left with a spot in their outdoor dining area that was located right under a heating element and it made it very uncomfortable. We sat under the heat for about ten minutes before the waitress showed up and she seemed upset when we asked to be moved out from under the sauna. The atmosphere just didn't live up to the location. After waiting another ten minutes for the new table to be cleaned we were finally seated with a glass of champagne and a plate of oils for bread. There was one person running bread to what seemed to be completely random tables and we looked at our oil for almost 20 minutes before we finally had bread delivered to us. The waitress was very inattentive and spent more time talking to the bartender, and tables inside the dining area than trying to help our experience. On to the food. There was a NYE special that consisted of a choice between two different four course meals, priced at $60, and $65. One had seafood and the other did not. The appetizer was delivered with a really unappealing salad with a spoonful of dressing on it. The seafood plate was swordfish, octopus, and clams. The clams were overcooked, the swordfish was tough and scaly, and the octopus was the only rewarding part of the dish. However, every bit of it was salty to the point of not being able to enjoy any of it. The other appetizer was just a bunch of over fried bread, potatoes, and cheese. Nothing to talk about with any pleasure. The dipping sauce was more like a bowl of tomato soup. Tasty, but not necessary, and really didn't add to the dish at all. After we were delivered that part of the meal we were left to watch every table around us get their food, eat, pay, and leave. We sat for nearly 45 minutes without even seeing our waitress. I had to stop another waitress and ask her what was going on. Once that happened, the rest of our food, and the waitress miraculously appeared. The third course was a pasta with clams for one and some over cooked pork for the other. Both of them were again way over salted, and they were barely on our table two minutes before the main course was delivered. I was so fed up with the service by this point I just asked for the dessert to be delivered and have the main courses (Mahi Mahi, and some sort of thin sliced veal cut) boxed to go. The waitress brought some boxes out to the table and boxed everything in front of us but more or less threw everything in there so we could stop bothering her. The dessert was an overcooked and cold chocolate souffle, and a rum bread cake which was just a baked, and wet blob of slush. Horrible is the best word I can use to describe anything that landed on my table. The price of the meals, and the menu clearly stated that the price did not include tips or taxes. I had to flag down the waitress by just waving my credit card in the air to pay. She was too busy paying attention to a table behind us that was seated with what appeared to be a manager, or owner, or family member of some sort. The waitress casually took my card and then brought it back with an 18% gratuity already added to the bill. I could not find anyone that could explain the gratuity and my waitress was nowhere to be found after that. The entire experience was more than two hours and I never took a single bite of my main course. I kept trying to justify the long wait because it was NYE and busy, but this place is used to a constant flow of people due to being attached to the Harborwalk Village. I also kept my cool despite watching full tables with anywhere from two people to eight people come and go while we stared at empty appetizer plates. I wanted to email the restaurant but their website is broken. I will be calling to speak with the management later today to demand some sort of refund because this was easily the worse dining experience I've had since moving to the area. **Edit 1** I wrote this review on 01/01/2014. Since then I have tried to call this place no fewer than 100 times and there has been no answer.**

While I REALLY wanted to give this restaurant a four star review, I believe customer service (especially at this price point) is a very important part of the rating, and La Famiglia let me down in this area. We made a reservation and had no problem being seated right away. The waitress was a little slow to address us and someone else actually acknowledged us first. By the time the waitress did come to our table we were ready to put our full orders in. I ordered the gnocchi with stefania sauce and asked if I could substitute a caesar salad for a house salad and was told that I would have to pay full price for the caesar ($5.99), which was the first time I had been told that at an Italian restaurant. The table also ordered two glasses of house wine which we would not receive until after our meal arrived AND we asked the food runner for them. The waitress brought the glasses but did not apologize for the delay. That was the only time the waitress would come to our table the rest of the meal (although she was in eye sight, chatting with other tables at length, chatting with other servers, etc). We had to ask someone else to refill our water which was disappointing. I saw someone who appeared to be the owner (or someone in charge) really talking up the larger party next to us but he walked by our table along with a couple of others without asking how we were doing. I really did love the food here. The lasagna was very good and the pizzas on the kids menu ($7.99) are actually full size pizzas (which would have been nice to know) so you can definitely share those or have left overs if you prefer. I would recommend this place for the food but be prepared that you may not have amazing service like you would expect.

Came here for lunch with a large party. Most of us had pasta or pizza from the lunch menu. Overall it was tasty and fresh! If you're hungry, stay away from the lunch ravioli since the portion is ... By American standards... Small. Not sure if we will come back for lunch but will try again for dinner the next time we come into town!

This is the place I miss most in Destin. When you are here you truly do feel like family. Their eggplant Parmesan is the best I have ever had. They also have great and reasonably priced fresh baked pizzas. It is really hard for me to decide what I want when I come here. The pizzas are huge and you can always count on taking leftovers home. I would suggest making a reservation because during the busy season parking can be insane because of some of the other restaurants around this area.

Hands down the best restaurant in Destin!!! This was my wife and I's first time in destin fl and after a week here we finally found the restaurant we would go to first during our next visit. The view outside on the outdoor eating deck was great and the food surpassed all our expectations. Both pasta dishes were amazing leading us to believe there probably isn't a bad dish to be ordered. The bread and dipping oils as simple as they are made us want to try to make it at home so we can experience again :p This is a must try for any new destin goers.

In the original location this was one of our favorite places to visit each trip. Now that it has moved to destin commons it is overpriced and under quality. I really think the prices are the same as before but where as I don't mind paying for great food I do mind over paying for generic food service food. It wasn't one thing but the sum of all things. We had to steal silverware from the next table to eat our appetizer. Outer $16 caprese salad was an under ripe tomato (it's late June in Florida) and flimsy buffalo mozzarella slices not even same number as tomato slices. The tea was terrible. The waitress initially told me she couldn't take that off of my bill. I told her it just tasted old. She finally took it off. My husband and I both had salads because we weren't hungry for something super heavy. I added shrimp to mine and got 3 small shrimp. I tried to order a side of spinach because I loved their spinach before but couldn't order it because I didn't order an entree. I tasted my kids spaghetti and am glad I didn't order anything with their red sauce because it was bland and ver generic. Ragu is better. (If you aren't going to make your own sauce then try Uncle steves or suckerpunch). We will probably never be back but we did bring it to the managers attention for hopes of reclaiming the attention to details that was a huge part of making you feel as if you were part of their family when we used to visit. As of now I would watch the reviews (I wish I had I would have seen the downward spiral). If it can reclaim its former quality then it will be worth visiting again.

Don't let the center stop you. This is a great Italian food stop with the owner personally at the tables, a former Pittsburg native. Food excellent, great wine selection very Midwestern Italian atmosphere. Well done.

If Gordon Ramsey came here the only thing he would complain about is the carpet, which is truly nasty. The food arrived somewhat slow, but it was steaming hot! Well worth the wait. Our waitress, Valentina, was awesome. She knew the menu very well and was happy to accommodate orders off the menu. I had the linguini with putenesca sauce and my wife had the lobster risotto. Both were very good. I suspect everything on the menu to be good. Good place if you like good, hot food!

Absolutely LOVED this place! It's quaint and quiet, and actually true Italian. Bread and garlic olive oil dipping sauce was served before the meal. It was the best dipping sauce I've ever had! For dinner, I actually got something not on the menu - chicken parmigiana with vodka sauce instead of marinara. This meal changed my life! So good! The vodka sauce has fantastic flavor and is creamy and delicious. Other members in my party had cheese pizza (also delicious), manicotti, and chicken al limone. The chicken al limone was way too salty and a little tart, but everything else we had was amazing. We shared the tiramisu for dessert, which arrived in a martini glass. The mascarpone was very creamy, and there was just a hint of alcohol flavor. The waitress was fantastic and very personable. Great experience. Would definitely go back! I'm excited to eat my leftovers!

I was very disappointed at LaFamiglia. First my family of 3 and I had to wait on stairs for 45 minutes for a family of 16 to be sat. I noticed that half the restaurant was empty. The hostess wouldn't seat anyone until the large family was sat. The hostess should've sat the other families that were waiting at the smaller tables while she cleared the large party area. I guess that I have taken that granite all of these years. Then when we ordered drinks I asked if I could have an ice tea. The waitress explained that they have freshly brewed tea but had only sweet available. I told her I was fine waiting for Unsweet to be ready. She explained that they only have sweet because sugar is mixed in with the tea herbs? Huh? My wife ordered a Stella which the waitress dropped off in a bottle and ran off without offering a cold glass. I thought we would be asked because with the pricing of $36 for a small steak and $39 for a seafood dish it seemed like a place that offers a glass with a beer. When the waitress dropped off the food she ran off without asking if we needed anything else. Unfortunately I felt that the waitress and the hostess ruined a nice vacation dining experience. Now I have to say that my family did love their food. I think the fix would be to hire a front end manager to keep an eye on things.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
