We had a pretty poor experience here for lunch. Food: The chips and salsa were good but everything else was pretty bland. We had tacos and enchiladas and they just don't put a lot of effort into the food. Service: The hostess sat us at a dirty table and it took us a while to track someone down to clean it. But the waiter was polite and prompt. Atmosphere: Dark and cheap. Destin is certainly not known for Mexican food, but we will continue to hope that something better comes along.

It has been a long time since I have had a taste of real Mexican food and it will probably be a long time before I ever do, at this rate. So, the radio ad claims they have authentic Mexican dishes, however, when I was served my tacos -- they were in a store-bought, stale shell. Number one turn-off, as far as this reviewer is concerned. I've posted pictures. The night began with happy hour margaritas for the man in my life; great size and a big thumbs-up from him. After looking over the menu I settled on tacos because there is nothing that tells you more about a Mexican restaurant than a basic taco. My boyfriend ordered a taco salad. Imagine my utter disappointment when his taco salad arrived in a crispy, deep-fried flour tortilla shell and my $10 tacos came in a stale, from-a-box shell. Mind you, the chicken inside was very juicy and tender, the flavor was still missing. All-in-all, this place is undistinguished amongst the other middling Mexican places. $60.00 for two taco dishes and three margaritas -- at least we had a good time just enjoying our date. I tried to order dessert because I have been craving and was curious about their deep-fried ice cream. They were out. So were we. I don't think I'll go back.

We had a party of 22 for a family reunion. In a little over an hour we had drinks, ordered, ate and were ready for our check. Our two servers - I didn't get their names but it was a guy and a girl did an amazing job and were super friendly. Overall great experience.

If can chicken, lettuce and no flavor is you thing....then this is the place for you. The people were nice...slow but nice, but for the price the food was not good. The tacos had no flavor and were watery. My wife ate about 4 bites of her taco salad. It had promise but did not deliver

If you are looking for average tex-mex then you found it. My family and I had lunch here as a group of 5 and was seated immediately and the service was good overall. Chips and taco shells were prepacked. Salsa was very good. Cheese sauce was alright. The big down side of this place was that they had put a chilli sauce on my daughters burrito and charged us another full price to make the burrito without the sauce. Menu doesn't state that it comes with.

Do not waste your time or money here. The food is disgusting! Let's begin with the drinks, we ordered margaritas and it was the worst margarita I have ever had. I ordered blended but they were out??? So anyway she brought me one on the rocks. It was very warm mix and probably a bit of tequila in there somewhere over ice, yuck. My husband ordered steak tacos and could not even eat it, it tasted so horrible. My kids had cheese quesadillas and they came and were so small I was shocked, really, really tiny. Then, there was a lot of random onions and lettuce pieces inside which my boys wanted none of. They are young and simply wanted cheese quesadilla. I had a very bland taco salad with an overdone shell. We made a huge mistake coming here and you should avoid it!

DO NOT PURCHASE THE YELP DEAL. EL JALISCO WILL NOT HONOR IT and instead you will get an angry manager who is only rude to customers. Do not return. Overpriced Mexican restaurant with no service skills.

Pleasant atmosphere, but nothing to recommend this establishment. While the menu is extensive, the food is humdrum. It is typical of any generic Mexican restaurant. Items ordered: Chori-qeuso appetizer. This was tasty and had just enough bite to it. Burrito Supreme. Nothing remarkable. Combination platter with tamale, Chile relleno, and enchilada. Serviceable. We came on a Sunday evening and had no trouble finding space... there were only two other parties here. Despite the sparse dining room, service and the kitchen were both kind of slow.

Don't ever go here when you're starving. They take forever to give you any type of service. However, the food was good.

Yelp states that they are open until midnight tonight. We arrived at 10:30pm and it is lights out and doors locked. It is near impossible to get food after 9pm in this town.

Actually the food was good. Enchiladas and Fajita's. Our server was pathetic. My husband had to get up from the table to get water from the bar. When he brought us our food we had no silverware. And we had to ask for that. We had to ask another waiter if they would get us a take home box. When we left our waiter was outside at one of the tables texting. Grrrr. Won't be back. I don't care if the food is good. If we are not served with some excellence (keep my glass full, be around) then we don't have to return. Too many other restaurants to choose from.

My friend and I decided we were interested in Mexican after a very long shift at work...Though not busy we waited for at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged (not seated...and not exactly greeted). Once seated it was another 10 minutes before we got a basket of chips and salsa and yet another 10 to take our drink order. An hour after we ordered we received our food minus the queso we had ordered as an appetizer. I ordered the Mole' and my friend the steak faita. My meal was barely warm and had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp for some time. Mole' should be rich and flavourful... this barely tasted. The manager reimbursed us for the queso we were charged for, but this was clearly one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Avoid this overpriced pitiful excuse for Mexican food.

Excellent food and service! I ordered the Adobe Chicken. Everything was delicious and warm and full of flavor.

Salsa was good and that is a big deal to me. Chips were a little greasy. Our waitress mixed up mine and a friends plates, so I got the wrong dinner. My friend noticed after she had eaten from the plate, too late to switch. I didn't care for the plate I got mainly because it had exactly what I asked to have removed from my order. Crab is imitation crab and should be noted on the menu. I would try this place again to give a fair review of the food I wanted. Reasonable prices also.

Great food, but service not so great. Needs organization and management. We had to wait 10 minutes after being seated before a server took our drink order, while we watched 5 servers laughing and joking at a table In the front.

Very reasonable prices for pretty good food. I had the chicken enchilada and beef taco with yellow rice and retried beans, and a blonde something-or-other (I forget the name) beer. The chips, salsa, and queso were all pretty good, and so was my meal. Service was pleasant and a reasonable wait time. I would definitely go back.

A little pricey for Mexican food that is similar to most others, but very tasty. Everything was well prepared. Chips and salsa provided as usual. The service however needs a makeover. Several waiters just standing around together watching TV. We waited 15 minutes to order drinks (soft drinks and water) and it was another 15 before we could order. Most of the restaurant was empty yet we were there nearly and hour and a half.

The best Mexican restaurant I've found remotely close to Fort Walton. The waiter was great he kept our brinks filled and the same time didn't hover. He checked in just enough and not so much it was annoying. My only complaint is the little fruit flies that kept flying around our heads but that's Florida for you.

Slow service, place was empty and we just ordered chips and dips yet it still took awhile for the dips to come out to us. However the dips that we got were good, it is hard to mess up dips though. The margaritas tasted watered down and they were a little pricey. There has to be a better Mexican place down here.

A pretty solid place. I just had the steak tacos but they were legit. I ordered them with cilantro and onion...not sure how they normally come. I would order them again. Also, I met the owner and he made me this kick ass Michelada... omg this thing was bomb.

Excited to have a Mexican place in the Commons. Great happy hour and the food was good. Dino, our server, was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to go back.

Slow service, wrong orders--All during the lull of 4-5:30pm on a Sunday afternoon. Food isn't anything spectacular. should have gone to pepitos. Hopefully the service improves or they won't last.

The food and service was phenomenal here, my fiancée and I both loved it. Only problem is that we both have food poisoning now and we arn't sure weather to pin it on the Asian food we had earlier for lunch or this place. I really don't want to pin it on this place because the food was so amazing, but I'm still unsure so unless some one else reports that they got sick we won't know.

Great food and sauces. Verde was great. Waiter was awesome. Very forgiving of our kids. House margaritas were a cut above too.

I am a Destin local and I don't go to many Mexican places in town bc they are cheap cheap quality of food ingredients and way to much sodium so when I went here I was excepting the same. I went Easter weekend yes service was slow but not horrible. Food was really really good. Happy hour was great also. Starts at 3 and our server gave to us 15 min early bc we waited for awhile. I will for sure go back. I had a chicken dish with sautéed vegetables rice and beans. We also started with the guacamole dip. See you next time.

My husband and I really enjoyed the food here. It was all very fresh and the prices are extremely reasonable for the amount of food you get. I ordered a burrito with no cheese and no sour cream and my husband got the enchiladas. Our orders came out quickly, correctly, and were both very tasty. The salsa that came with the chips is definitely my favorite in the area. I would have given El Jalisco 5 stars, but I asked for more salsa for my burrito twice and never received any.

My family and I stop by after doing some shopping and never really paid attention that there was a Mexican restaurant in the commons so my husband and I and our two kids wanted to try this place out, this place is really nice and very welcoming the hostess were nice. Our waitress had a very great personality always making us laugh she introduced herself before taking our drinks and whenever we had a question about the menu she would be there to answer it and also recommended some items from the menu... The food was amazing two-for-one margaritas!!!!!!! Definitely coming back again and if I can remember our waitress name .. I would recommend her .. Good job

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
