My wife and I were looking to get some take out Mexican and we remembered Pablanos was right around the corner from our new condo, so we stopped by. We couldn't be more pleased at the quality of the good and friendly service. Everything was fresh and tasty, zero complaints. Well be back.

BLAND at best. Very disappointed. We travel a lot and eat a LOT of mexican food and this place was at the bottom of my list and 2nd from the bottom of my wife's list. If I had to sum it up in one word, it would be bland. The salsa was pretty much just tomato sauce. My burrito that was the "founder's favorite" tasted like absolutely nothing. If blindfolded, I honestly wouldn't have been able to tell you what was in the burrito. My wife's tacos were OK. I will say that their rice was surprisingly full of flavor and near the top of my list. The hostess and waitress were both very nice and everyone seemed friendly. Just not very good food :-( * Others mentioned the band was too loud. I didn't think so at all and I don't enjoy loud bands when eating. Maybe they've adjusted the sound levels

Wednesdays are $4 nachos - have them for a meal and it's cheaper than Taco Bell! And yes they have their addictive crack-queso on em - num!!!! Definitely not my mex restaurant of choice in the area (not really authentic and haven't been impressed by any items that don't have queso on them) but for cheap eats, it works. Server was very friendly.

My boyfriend and I have been here about 3-4 times in the past 2 months. Haven't been disappointed yet. The guacamole is delish, although a little pricey at $10. We've only ever gone there for lunch. Waitresses are friendly and food tastes authentic.

I don't always throw around five star reviews, but they really earned it. I loved every minute I was there. The waiter, Will, was more than kind and helpful. He was very fast and efficient with our orders. Also, I got a 32ounce beer, which made me happy. A lot of places seem stingy with their beer, but I was happy with poblanos. I thought the food was awesome. I don't know if I can say it's the best in the area because I have yet to try others in the area, but we will definitely return. Also, it is kid friendly, which is great because we have a kid. They have a nice bar and outdoor seating where you can bring your dog to eat with you outside. The salsa was bland, but everything else was perfect.

The restaurant is a bit "chain-y" and not quite authentic, but they deliver a nice, fresh meal. Healthy options are available (which isn't always the case with Mexican restaurants) and they are willing to work with dietary restrictions. Nice happy hour. Good for weeknight Mexican when we don't feel like driving to Los Amigos in Dunedin.

This was our first visit but we will be back. The food was phenomenal & our waiter was respectful & responsive. The beer prices aren't too bad either. DO order the sweet tea. Delish.

Thank God they got rid of who ever was killing the food! It's back to a WONDERFUL experience and great food! Thanks for fixing whatever was broken :)

One of the worst Mexican food experiences ever! They had a live band, which was very talented and enjoyable - if you like rock. Totally not appropriate for the venue, not to mention that is was so loud you couldn't hear one another from across the table. The service was horrid. The server was not attentive to our needs, whatsoever. She was more interested in the cell phone in her apron. The food was far below average. The guacamole tasted processed, like you buy in the packets in the store. It was completely creamy and faded green in color. It tasted terrible. The chimichanga was awful. It was dry and bland. The flautas not only tasted processed, but tasted like they had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. Perhaps this is because the server was too busy returning texts throughout the evening that the food did end up sitting, just waiting to be delivered...Definitely will not return.

Seriously the El Picaso is so good, the spicy cheese sauce Juan puts on it is AMAZING! We try and eat here once a week the salsa and chips are great. As far as service goes we usually sit at bar and the owner Juan is working so we definitely get 1st class service! Always a good selections of sports in the TV and a great selection is tequila! If you're looking for good Mexican food you found a great spot!

From five stars to one... Wow. We really used to like this place. We had stopped going a year or so ago because our favorite servers and manager left and it wasn't the same. However, the recent Dirty Dining report on the local news shows that health inspectors found 18 live roaches in the kitchen on a recent inspection -- in addition to a lot of other health issues. All places in Florida can have bug problems, but that is too much of a problem to have gone unnoticed and ignored... Adios, Poblanos. I'm not coming back. You can clean the place up, but you can't convince me that you really care about santitation beyond being caught red handed.

If you like the same stuff you buy off the grocery shelves, then you will like it. Personally for me I wont go back because of their " special" cheap tacos ( price and quality), there are much better authentic Mexican restaurants with real home made foods ,than this sham hole. " Taco Bell 2

We were visiting the area, and wanted to have some Mexican food. Not many Mexican food options near the beach area, so we ventured in. Wasn't too packed (due to Valentine's I guess). We were seated immediately. Service was great. Food was your standard Mexican fare. Salsa was also flavorful. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting Mexican.

I used to love this place. It was my go-to mexican restaurant. Untill they closed down for health violations. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Businesses make mistakes. But by the 3rd time, and a headlining spot on the news segment Dirty Dinings I was all set. You would think after getting this type of exposure they would get their act together. WRONG AGAIN. About a week ago they appeared on the state health dept. report for 32 violations!! Absolutely ridiculous. At that point you aren't even trying to pretend like you're following health codes. The owners and management must be complete idiots. NEVER GO HERE!

Roach infested. I had no opinion about this place, I always ordered the Pollo Picoso when I did go. It was nothing spectacular, but it's the closest Tex-Mex restaurant. Needless to say I will not be going anywhere near this place. abcactionnews.com/dpp/mo…

I have to say that this was a pleasant surprise. After running errands in Clearwater, my girlfriend and I were craving Mexican food and we happened upon Poblano's. After checking my Yelp app, I wasn't expecting too much, considering all the mixed reviews. We were starving, so we took a shot, sat at the bar and got some food. The chips and salsa were good, but nothing special. The chips were warm, but the salsa was sub-par. On Tuesdays, they have 2 for 1 fajitas, so we went with that, thinking we would have leftovers and I also ordered the chicken chimichangas. We were so pleasantly surprised with the food. The fajitas came out sizzling and they came with low-carb wraps, that were actually quite good. The chicken and steak were both cooked perfectly and the onions and peppers were caramelized nicely. The best part about the fajitas was that they weren't salty. Too often local Mexican restaurants make everything so salty, but these were juicy and flavorful without being covered in salt. I love chimichangas and these were impressive. I chose the shredded chicken and for around $8, both were stuffed full of chicken. They weren't stuffed with just filler cheeses or god knows what else, they were stuffed full of juicy chicken. Also, they were cripsy, not doughy and were not overly covered in sauce or cheese. I could taste the meat and spices, and that's how a chimichanga should be. We didn't drink, but the margaritas are only $3 during happy hour, so we'll be back to try that. With this experience, we had enough food to fill us both up and we had enough for both of us to have lunch the next day. All for around $20. If I could change anything, I would have them move to South Tampa, but because that's impractical and selfish, and because we enjoyed our experience so much, we'll gladly drive to Clearwater.

Don't come here for the Monday 99¢ tacos special - too many restrictions and too few choices. Go to Peggy O'Neill's. Music so loud I couldn't hear greeter.

I love this place. First off, the staff is VERY friendly. On our first trip here they brought us 3 plates of samples so we could make our meal decision easier. Everything they brought us was awesome. The thing that makes their food so good is that it's a little different that what you would expect from a Mexican place. It's all very fresh and has a slight twist to the normal "tacos and burritos" you might expect. I've been back a few times and we usually go for lunch so it's not that crowded. Their margaritas are awesome. The Princess Sangria is a pass but the regular Sangria is very good. It's a fun friendly place with amazing food. We go back about every other weekend and love it each time.

Went last night, service was slow as manager advised us patio server didn't show up. Chip and salsa were good. Liked the chunky salsa. Tuesday's is 99cent tacos, friends had them said they were good. I had chicken tacos which were very good. Also had $2 margaritas and $1.50 drafts on bud and amberbach. No one left hungry and it was overall good dinner!

Pollo loco rocks here. Had alot if dates here with my wife. Mmm mmm good. This is a simple dish. It's white meat chicken, with white mexican cheese and rice. Served with a side of tortillas. You gotta try it. Trust me, you will be back.

  • Kellen S.

Expensive and overall just not that great. The chips and salsa are the only decent thing. They charge an arm and leg for a little extra sour cream.

its busy on most nights so the service can get kind of slow, but it is very much worth the food and the time you have with friends or family. It has a wonderful atmosphere, a cross between a sports bar and a sort of cantina. Some nights they will have entertainment (guitarist's, singers, bongos, etc.) which can become loud but still entertaining none the less. My friends and family eat at this Establishment frequently and love coming back.

It was fine. Prices are reasonable. Food was good. Service was ok. Mediocre all in all.

It's... okay. My sister and I went for lunch for the first time, and since we both love Mexican-American food, we had high hopes. The chips they bring out tasted like cardboard, and the salsa like it was from a jar. We both had the shredded beef chimichanga, which was completely drowned in queso. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE queso, but wow, it was a bit overmuch. My favorite part of the whole meal was the shredded beef itself. It was VERY good. But then we got the bill, and I was a bit surprised what it cost for one chimichanga. Oh well. I'll probably only be back on the food-and-drink-specials days.

I've eaten here for lunch a few days a week now for about a month. The food is excellent, the servers are super friendly and the atmosphere is great. I enjoyed the beef burrito and chicken taco. I pick a quiet spot at lunch and read a book.

2nd time I've been and I'm liking it more each visit. Got a couple happy hour house margaritas ($3 a drink), the Wednesday night special Nachos ($4), and left full and a little buzzed - great deal! I thought the nachos were going to be a small plate but it was a full order of nachos with ground beef, guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, and of course, the QUESO! Will definitely be back and probably on Wednesdays!

Always great. Juan runs a nice clean restaurant. My wife and I love the place. Very good Mexican dishes. The CarneAsada is fantastic!

  • Nick Z.

Great food, terrible margaritas. I've eaten here many times. The food is good. I've tried a house margarita and sent it back for an upgraded margarita. It's was just as awful. Maybe they need to make the mix with real fruit instead of cheap mix. We will continue to go there for some food, but it's disappointing not to get a good margarita with good Mexican food.

  • David S.

We come here probably once a week or at least every other week. Everyone loves the place and it is always a solid "you-know-you're-going-to-get-good-Mexican-food" kind of experience. Very reasonable cost. Dollar taco night on Mondays is always special too! Love their tacos!!!

  • Bethany M.

One of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants! My husband and I have been to Poblanos hundreds of times in the last seven years. A friend suggested we check out their Monday taco night and we have been hooked ever since! Taco night is crazy! The restaurant is packed to capacity for the $1 tacos, $2 margaritas and $4 beers served in bucket sized mugs. If you have the patience, or can beat the crowd, taco night is pretty fun! A few times I have been, they had pretty rad live music playing. Sadly, we haven't braved taco night in a while because it does get loud and the servers aren't at their best (for obvious reasons). On any other night however, the food and drinks are just as good and the service even better. Try anything you want on the menu and you will love it! I couldn't even tell you what I like best!

I came again tonight for "margarita madness". It has been over a year since my last visit. I only went because a friend who was visiting from out of town wanted to go. Also, $1 tacos and $2.30 margaritas may have pulled me in as well. We arrived at 8 and waited 25 minutes and we still had not been asked for our drink order. We decided to go inside to the bar to order our margaritas. In all fairness they were extremely busy, even out on the patio where we sat. But still 25 minutes for drinks seemed extreme. Since we had so much time to sit around, I had plenty of time to observe the environment. The chairs outside are hard metal chairs with open slats on the bottom that are just not comfortable at all. The overhang above the patio was kind of grody looking. Overall our server was nice, probably just overworked. After we got our drinks, our table of 8 ordered a ton of the beef or refried bean tacos. They just had lettuce and cheese on top, but not bad for the price. The chips and salsa was still just "meh". Nothing impressive. I've had better salsa from a jar. The server did bring out the tacos much quicker than the drinks, but still the whole experience took forever Inside, while waiting at the bar for drinks, I noticed yet again that the live band was extremely loud, far too loud for a Monday night restaurant crowd. At that point I was glad we sat outside Based on this visit I'd probably give 2.5 stars, but I'm still not totally sold on Poblanos

I love Mexican food and I'm happy to report that this restaurant will go on a list of restaurants I'll return to for satisfying my endless need for chips and salsa. My boyfriend and I dined here on a Sunday at about 4 PM. The restaurant wasn't busy at this time and we were happy with the food and service. I ordered a taco and burrito combination and both were delicious. The burrito had hot ground beef, awesome red sauce and a soft flour tortilla. The taco was superb with lettuce and white cheese and a wonderfully crishpy shell. My boyfriend loved his chicken fajitas and we both devoured the chips and salsa. We both had beans and rice that were quite tasty but more than enough food! This place is great and we'll be heading back for more.

The queso dip and service was good. Our dip did come out late, but I am easy to please . My friend and I both ordered vegetarian stuffed poblanos, we voted the dish as a 6/10. I might go there for $1 taco/margarita night otherwise, all my friends boasted to me about this place, but it's not my favorite.

Took forever to get a table. Server was far and away not the sharpest crayon in the box. Food itself wasn't bad but 30+ bucks for two people and all we got was 3 tacos and a burrito... No alcohol. Not impressed.

  • Judy D.

We love Poblanos! We go every Thursday with our neighbors. The bartender Juliana is the nicest person and very friendly. She also makes a great tequila sunrise. Food great........free chips and salsa....My only suggestion - make the draft beer colder. Also they have a frequent diner program - join - it's a great deal! They are always cleaning when not busy. The floors are spotless.

Server was fun and quick at first, when it was time to go she disappeared. Food was tasty enough.. Nothing Amazing -- but just good enough not to say no if someone says they want to come back. Not going out of my way to go there.

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing here, but I had the Carne loco, it was so-so. It reminded me more like a Beef Stroganoff than it did any Mexican type food. It had a stroganoff type gravy with it, that confused my taste buds. I really didn't like the Salsa too much, I got the impression it was a can of diced tomatoes, and then they mixed some spice into it. Ew. I didn't like it. I have been in many authentic Mexican places and I prefer my Salsa's with a bit of ZING and with onions, cilantro, and peppers. None of that here. The atmosphere was a bit "off" as well, it reminded me more of a BAR, than it did a restaurant, and it was very DARK and dreary in here. The wait staff was awesome, they were very attentive without being over bearing. I will probably give this place another try and based on the others reviews, maybe I should try the Pollo Loco instea.

We've tried a majority of the Mexican food places in Pinellas county and this is a good one. Today we had the carne asada and their enchiladas suizas. The carne asada was perfectly cooked medium rare. I got the enchiladas in a mix of 2 grilled chicken ones and one steak. The suiza sauce is a combo of salsa verde and melted cheese. It was OK but next time I would get just the salsa verde sauce on the enchiladas. The prices are reasonable for what you get. The restaurant is somewhat hard to find but worth the effort.

  • Darcy S.

Terrible. The taco shells are not even old El Paso quality. The ground beef is mushy. The only thing that earned this place one star is the service was good. Really, if you are looking for any kind of Mexican food, you can pass this up.

Mediocre food, crummy setting, poor service. Poblano's Mexican Grill has it all. What more could you ask for? First is the setting. Many similar restaurants might be in need of a good cleaning. I can put up with some grunge if the food is good. Poblano's, however, offers bland food with a side of grunge. The service is sports-bar-slacker. You better not need anything or you'll have to hail a passing server to go find yours. Our waiter was forgetful at best, dumb and inattentive at worst. We chose a couple of items on the menu that the waiter particularly recommended and that the menu listed as favorites. Both were bland. A third person at our table chose a regular favorite item from many other Mexican restaurants but that was a real disappointment at Poblano's. The best food item was the free salsa that came with the chips at the start of the meal. Maybe that's the answer. Go sit at the bar during happy hour and have a beer (can't really screw that up) and eat the free chips and salsa.

Excellent place, just expect the experience to differ by when you go. If you go on the Monday taco night like we do expect a wait to be seated, and expect your server to be very busy as the place will be full for hours. Give your server a break if they're a little slow, you're probably their 500th table that night! The live music on Mondays is good, but pretty darn loud if you get seated right by the band. On normal nights the food is always good, quick, and the place is cheap! Their red salsa is actually pretty bland but the salsa verde is some of the best I've ever had. And the queso is excellent. And again I stress, for the amount and quality of food the place is a deal.

first time here and won't be the last, Edna was our sever and she did things for use no other sever did. baby being from hong long really never liked or knew what mex food was. she brought out samples of the food at no charge so he could try before he bought. never has that happened to me in 50 years.. ask for her as you server you will be happy ya did!!!

  • William C.

The was a good dining experience. Food is reasonable, drinks are too. Fairly authentic. It's clean, and the waitstaff was courteous and friendly. A lady at the next table was griping that they did the ole bait and switch on the deal for margaritas. I asked my server, he told me they had a margarita special that was no longer available. Had a decent frozen Margarita, burrito, and two tacos. (I know, burritos are more tex mex than authentic) If your a fan of Mexican food, I think you will like this place.

This is far from authentic "Mexican," but the awesome Monday night specials merit a trip to this joint, tucked away in a strip mall off busy McMullen Booth Highway. You will find $2.50 house margaritas, which while not made with top shelf tequila, are nonetheless tasty and well poured. For the price, you cannot go wrong having 3-4. Then, sample the $1 tacos, which sport a generous filling of ground beef and the usual goodies. These are pretty big and definitely filling to soak up the alcohol. Free chips and salsa, too. Also, there is live music on Monday nights with my pals, the Bacardi Boys. You won't find anywhere that is more fun and cheaper on Monday than Poblanos. And, the place gets packed early, so be prepared.

  • John F.

So very disappointed. Went in at around 8:00 PM. There were a few occupied tables so we weren't the only ones in there. As we sat, the place kind of emptied out so that it was pretty much just us by 8:30. Our food was eh, not anywhere near as good as last time and we ate pretty quickly because the staff was putting chairs on tables and closing up shop. It was a very uncomfortable feeling watching this place get ready to close so we paid the bill and walked out. That's when I checked the hours on the door: Open until 10:00 PM. Why were they closing up shop before 9:00. Because of the food quality and the weird early closing work we will not be returning. Sorry, Poblanos. No second chances for you.

Monday dollar tacos and great margaritas! The chicken soft tacos are the best but they are around 2 dollars. The service was not so great... They were slammed and and great music though! Being from Pinellas and living in VA this place is a gem unfounded in Hampton roads! Wish we were home!

  • Stephanie W.

This is the worst Mexican food I've ever had. The salsa definitely comes from a jar. My friend got an agave sweetened margarita for $9 and we all thought it tasted like straight agave nectar and water. The cheese on the tacos looks like Kraft cheese from a bag, and the only other topping was iceberg lettuce. You might be able to find better food at a gas station.

I'm on the road, it's lunch time, and suddenly, it's Mexican I'm craving. I search on my GPS and find Poblano's. Like a good Yelper, I figured I'd hit a new place and share. I ordered off the lunch menu which had quite reasonable prices. Ok, starting with the salsa, it was texture blended with a slight kick that didn't kill ya but tasty. The queso was a white cheese base with hidden flavors that just added to a good appetite. I ordered a combo that included a "tamal" and a chile rellano. Both were excellent with a perfect bite. The chicken in the tamal was seasoned nicely along with the cornmeal casing. The ground beef in the zesty chile rellano had a good flavor as well. I loved the rice with peas, peppers, corn and tomato in it. The refried beans had a good flavor with the melted cheese on it. As I was on meds, I couldn't partake of the libations. :( Melissa, who served us, was very nice, prompt, and added to the experience. She also told me that Mondays were primo here with special 32 oz Margaritas, .99 cent and $1.99 beer specials! Oh, and food specials too! Are ya kidding me? I'm bringing the crew when I'm off meds for sure! One thing I hate is when you go to any International place and the music is a fracking Top 40s radio station. No complaint here as all music was Latin oriented and not from a radio station! Sweet! I will return to Poblano's!

Good Mexican food at a fair price. Wait staff could be a little more friendly. looks like they are almost finished remodeling the restaurant, which looks very nice.

Waited at the host stand for several minutes before even being acknowledged. Half the restaurant was dirty unbussed tables. I had been given cards for free entrees to try the restaurant and we drove up from St. Pete. They had a printed paper taped to the host stand that they were not accepting "old" cards any longer so I asked about the ones I had. They did not look like the ones on the notice, they looked like the current ones on the counter, but did not want to present them if they were no good. The waiter said no, the person who's name on them didn't work there anymore so they were no good, then yelled to someone else to verify. I work in a restaurant that our managers give out promo stuff all the time, we would never dishonor it because that particular employee wasn't there anymore. That isn't the guest's issue. We left and did not even try it, just on the rudeness of the staff.

I have had a craving for mexican food lately and someone mentioned this place, so we went for the first time tonight and I was very happy with my experience. I loved our server Mike, and I especially like the fact that when we mentioned to him it was our first time here, he told us he would bring out some samples for us to try. We ordered chips and queso, which were nice, but the salsa he brought was even better, my friend loved it. Then came the samples of pork marinated in tequila, and chicken with queso. The pork was incredible so we ordered that, also the fish tacos were amazing, and I liked how they cooked the fish. I also got the chimichangas with shredded chicken and I loved it. All in all, the food was great, our server was awesome and the prices were very reasonable. The reason I did not give 5 stars was because I felt there should have been some sort of music playing outside, it was way too quiet.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
