Tried this place for the first time with my mom. When my family is not eating Indian food, they are usually eating Thai food. Our usual spot had closed for lunch, however this place was open so we decided to check it out... and I'm so glad that we did! Food came out rather quickly (which is nice if you're in a rush) and was so tasty! Lunch special is a great deal, for around $8 or $9 you get a soup, spring roll, and your dish. I ordered a Thai tea which came out in a cute mason jar glass, and their garlic and black pepper stir fry with chicken. My mom ordered ginger stir fry with the chicken. The flavor of the garlic in my dish was perfect and not too overwhelming. It was also just the right amount of vegetables with chicken. Portion size was generous; enough to take some home for lunch the next day. Service left a bit to be desired, but honestly I wasn't bothered by it. If you want to be basically in and out and leave with a full belly of tasty Thai food, then this is the place to go!

When the older man in black (he's NOT a server) begins hanging around your table looking impatient and trying to blend in without appearing as if he's waiting for you to leave, then it's time for you to leave. They're so eager for you to vacate the table for other diners (even though there's no other diners waiting!) that they don't even care how tacky and unprofessional it looks. I don't want to go back because of the man in black, what a rude person. We were barely 2 steps from the table when he pounced on it to clean it up. 3 stars because the food is decent sand the decor is nice. But I always get the feeling that they really don't like their patrons.

This was my second time, and last time, eating at Bland Thai. The first time the food was bland and this second time...the food was bland. I ordered the rice noodles with snow peas and besides it tasting like absolutely nothing, the noodles were so overcooked that they just fell apart into little pieces when picked up. The wonton soup had a good broth, but the wontons had a weird, indescribable taste. One extra star because my fiance likes their sushi, but I felt it was $50 down the drain.

Used to be my favorite Thai restaurant, would recommend to friends and colleagues. Then I saw the Restaurant Red Alert on CBS. Cited 3 times for same violations , not just roaches in kitchen including the sushi prep area, but other citations. Improper food storage. Cited by Bd of Health 3 times!! Really!! I would never eat there again. Three strikes and you're out. This is so sad as the wait staff is so friendly, I'd been going there for years , watched them grow. Poor management. With so many Thai options in the area, why risk your health. Improper food storage. Yikes!!

Just stopped in for a quick appetizer. Ordered egg rolls...they were okay, it's probably not fair to rate them based on just this item. The decor is a bit stereotypical...kinda dated.

The atmosphere is so cozy and such a warm Asian feel. We had the homemade miso soup and the garlic grouper. It came out with perfect presentation and perfectly cooked. Well worth the $10 lunch price. (Which we shared)

I have been coming here for over 10 years. This is one of my favorite restaurants! The service is always friendly and prompt. I always get the Amazing Beef, served in a peanut sauce. If you don't get a noodle dish like pad Thai, it will be served with a side of jasmine rice. I prefer to go to lunch as it offers a great deal! If your order off the lunch menu you get the soup of the day (usually a chicken and rice in a garlic broth), an amazingly yummy spring roll, your entree, and a sugared doughnut for dessert! The atmosphere is beautiful. The booths are separated by elegant and elaborate fabric. The entire restaurant is encased in ornate carvings. There are even floating flowers (usually in the bathroom)! Prices are reasonable and you will walk out feeling very full. Most likely with a to go box too!

If you want a taste of Thai visit this place. You will feel like your in Asia. As I like pad thai I always wanted to try it and compare it to the places I've been. And I can say that there pad thai is one of the best that I've tasted. Price was not bad for the food that you'll get. Service was okay!

Recommended to me by a friend for their sushi. I left unimpressed. The tuna was mush. Clearly they didn't have good enough quality to serve in larger chunks. The other roll was very bland. I don't recall the names but I can assure you I don't think it was those rolls in particular that were the issue.

Great service, wonderful curry and ambiance! Will be going back! Try the panang curry, yum!

I can't believe this place has so many great reviews. I've eaten here two times now thinking I must be wrong. First i had Pad Thai and a spicy tuna roll. The Pad Thai was ok, almost soupy. And the spicy tuna roll was bland. After reading all of the great reviews about the specialty rolls I though I would give them another try. I ordered the eel roll, Mexican roll and tornado roll for take out. I live less than a mile away. I ate one of each of the rolls. That was it! The quality was terrible. I took one of the rolls apart to inspect it and was grossed out. I only settled for here because my favorite place is closed for a remodel right now. I will not be going back.

The food wasn't the best, and the restaurant seemed a bit dirty. I have definitely had better!

Our new favorite place to go for Thai. The Pad Thai and Chicken Curry are our favorites. They add just the right amount of flavor and spice. The atmosphere is lovely with booths covered with a beautiful lacy fabric.

Great service, in a strangely wonderful venue, its surprising to see such a great restaurant with such ornate decorations housed in a strip mall. The serving staff are very attentive and wearing their bright traditional styled robes they truly give lend a real sense of authenticity to the whole place. The food matches the high standard of service. Everything I have tried has been excellent. Thai meals are tasty fragrant and delicious and can be heated to your own personal taste in spice. I like it hot, but not Thai hot. Somewhat unexpected, is the high level of their sushi, and it has become my favourite local sushi restaurant. Try the magnificent Lobster Tempura roll it is amazing. Whatever you choose to eat, be sure and try the superb Thai Tea, a great beverage

Their food here is very good, the service can be lacking at time but it's very good food that makes up. Their Tom ca gai is very good, deliciously tangy and creamy. Their Pad Thai here is really good, if you're adventurous try it Thai hot! Lots of choices and if you're a little to afraid to try Thai you can always have some sushi. Their sushi here is very fresh and good quantity for what you pay. They have very good food so give it a try any food will be good.

Dinner on a Friday night. This place was great! Huge menu selection, both thai and sushi, fresh ingredients, and friendly service! I had the nam sod which was excellent! My husband had the chicken curry and greatly enjoyed his as well.

Love Ban Thai ... It is def my favorite sushi place! We got takeout today so we could have Easter dinner with the doggies. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because take out often takes longer than it should. The sushi is worth the wait though. We ordered 2 rainbow rolls and 2 monster rolls without cream cheese. It was so good! The rolls are always rolled perfectly, very tight and never falling apart. The homemade crab topping on the monster roll is always delicious! If your not into sushi but enjoy Thai check out the Pad Thai it is excellent , very fresh and always cooked to perfection, plus the edible orchids just make me happy!

Lovely decor, warm atmosphere, and really great service every time . Great place for vegans !My favorite dish is the Tornado tofu and veggie sushi. Yum! Fresh veggies that are steamed perfectly . Tofu was crispy and the coconut curry was very flavorful . Our waiter tonight was soooo helpful and knowledgable . Veggie summer roll and miso soup are yummy ,too. They have a vegetarian section so it's easy to navigate the menu.

wtsp.com/story/news/2014… I wrote a raving review earlier this year on their OTHER review page. I used to be a regular. I would come for lunch with my kids. After reading ALL the violations they had, I am disgusted. You can't afford to have violations in a SUSHI place. I wrote a review about Sabai Asian Bistro, across the street. I said Ban Thai was the best in town. Now I will become a regular at Sabai. So sad. :'(

Hands down the best Chicken Pad Thai i have ever had on the planet and i have had a lot of them. I eat at this spot a few times a month including lunch. One thing i never have understood about the restaurant industry is why some give you more food at lunch than at dinner for less price. For example, if i order Chicken Pad Thai for lunch i get a soup and spring roll with it and also a small dessert. If i order the exact same dish at dinner no soup, no roll and no dessert. Now, more about the restaurant. Once you enter the ambiance is very nice. well decorated and the wait staff wears traditional Thai garb. The staff is always friendly and is always on top of your drinks and any other needs you may have. If i get something spicy I typically drink a lot of water and my cup rarely runs dry. I have never had a bad dish here and really enjoy all of the dishes with coconut milk in them. Their veggies are fresh and crisp. Ban Thai has several items on the lunch menu that they do not have on the dinner menu and do not allow you to order. One of my favorite lunch items is Box 8. This is a combination of Sushi and Chicken Pad Thai for $12.95. They do not have this or any of the other Box lunch items available for dinner and i know there is a demand for them because i have the same discussions with other friends who dine here. Hopefully one day you can order these Box specials for dinner. Keep up the good work Ban Thai.

This thai food has won me over! On the outside it appears insignificant - and can easily be overlooked where it is located in the back corner of a shopping plaza - but don't be fooled! Step inside and you will immediately see this is no ordinary place! As soon as you enter you will see the coveted 10-seater authentic Thai "booth" that includes an articulate canopy overhead. And no, I've never had the pleasure of sitting there - but it's definitely a goal lol! Now onto the more important matter....the food! The panang chicken at "medium heat" is the perfect balance of spicy, nutty, and flavorful. I haven't dared to try hot or fire hot but I'm sure those would not disappoint either. As much as I love the panang, the true reason why I drive the 20+ minutes to this restaurant is for the Pad Thai and sushi. Their Pad Thai is the best I've had. The sauce is sweet - but not too sweet - and they don't skimp on the meat and shrimp. I've tried several of their sushi rolls but so far my fave is the Rock N Roll. Hope you take a change on this place as well!

Great Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup & Sushi! Good food! I'll be back! If you can overlook the service its a wonderful experience!

I give it a 4 stars for LUNCH. I've taken several friends here for lunch and they've all become patrons. I wish I still lived close enough to spend a lunch break here. My hubby and I made the mistake of coming here for dinner once and it just wasn't worth it. You don't get half the stuff you get during lunch and the prices are ridiculous for the quality. Lunch is a bargain IMO. With every meal you get spring rolls and this outstanding chicken and rice soup in broth spiked with ginger. I usually order the Panang chicken, beef, duck or squid. Or I get one of those meals with Red Curry. Some days the Panang or curry could be thicker or watery depending on who's your cook, but it's always tasty. I get mine hot...not Thai Hot, but hot. The sushi is pretty good here too. Every once in a while I would opt for a bento box, but I usually end up missing having rice with my curry. The server always brings 'Chinese donuts' with your check...they are delicious and I always wish I had more. They go so well with the hot green tea that I order with my food. Again, great for lunch, but don't waste your time or money for dinner.

Careful, this place just got another "DIRTY DINING" review.. Twice in the last 4 months

  • Marty C.

Recently, the restaurant got a full liquor license. At the same time, menu prices went up as much as 10 to 15%. I suppose it's supply and demand! Every night we go there it's standing room only. We will certainly continue going but we just won't order as much. Honestly, I guess we could stand to lose the weight!

    (5)
  • Matt S.

I think this place changed owners. Completely different staff.Food quality not as good.Soup and ginger salad still very good.Pad Tai much less flavor,Lobster roll had half of the lobster?

  • Ashley R.

Very good sushi and red curry. My husband has been to Thailand a handful of times and he hasn't had curry this good since Thailand. Authentic and delicious. Ordered two rolls (they are huge, only able to eat 1/2 of each) and both were very good. Will come back very soon.

My child spent his Christmas with his favorite cousin, so I had a good old fashioned Asian food Christmas like I had in the days when I was childless and the boyfriend was Jewish. I was surprised to see how many families were in the restaurant on Christmas Day. However, our party of five lonely hearts were seated immediately. The service was, as usual, awesome. We had Thai teas and did kind of a family style dinner of curries and soups and pad thai. It was all excellent. The sushi is always surprisingly good. Being from the west coast (of California, not the west coast of Florida) and after having lived in Hawaii for quite some time, I've experienced great sushi. This place comes very, very close. Surprisingly good for a Thai place. They have brown rice and will make your sushi with brown rice if requested. Very progressive. Still loving Ban Thai.

Great for lunch. Been coming here for years and they never disappoint. Food excellent and always consistent at a reasonable priced. Perfect ambiance with the service to match.

I didn't want to like this place because one of my favorite Thai places is across the street (Thai Spice), but after eating here a few times, Ban Thai is now one of my top Thai and Sushi restaurants. There are 2 main reasons I like Ban Thai: 1) Most Thai/Sushi restaurants close during the hours between lunch and dinner, but this place is open. 2) Whether you want to eat Thai or sushi, both are equally good here. My bf and I have had numerous appetizers, entrees, desserts and sushi rolls from here and all have been super yummy. The service is very good as well. The servers are attentive and food comes out fast. We always look forward to eating here.

I have been coming to Ban Thai for years for lunch, and it's been a favorite... UNTIL I saw they were shut down by the health department for continued and repeated violations - the roaches were just too much to take. I had hope that they would correct the problem, but then I learned that they are even now refusing to let cameras or news staff in the kitchen! So disappointing Ban Thai. YUCK!

  • Lauren C.

Ban Thai is one of my favorite Thai and sushi restaurants. I've been here quite a few times so I'm surprised I have yet to review it. I like to come here for dining in because the environment inside is nice and cozy and the service is usually pretty good. I've also gotten take out before and they always do a good job with making sure the order is hot, fresh and most importantly correct. Some of my favorite things to get here include the traditional pad thai and "amazing" chicken (see a trend here, I looove peanut sauce!) as well as the spicy tuna roll for sushi. It's just the right mix of spicy, crunchy and fresh! I would definitely recommend Ban Thai to others and look forward to the next time I eat here.

The sushi was remarkable. Excellently prepared and extremely fresh. Service was outstanding as well.

    (5)
  • Kamaryn L.

Bar is in the back and was dead. Decor is dated. The sushi was just okay, skimpy on the fish and the one roll we ordered didn't even come with all the ingredients it was supposed to. They have a special kind of drink/liquor that I have never had before (kind of a thai rum/whiskey) which was good and on special but we won't be back. Better sushi elsewhere.

    (3)
  • Walter P.

Excellent restaurant! I've been here a couple dozen times, and it's been a great meal every time. I usually get the red curry chicken. It's served in a bowl with rice on the side. The dish is very soupy, and it's excellent with the rice put into the bowl. I've also ordered the combo fried rice, which is a nice dish with a good portion. My girlfriend gets the pineapple chicken, which is great if you like sweet dishes, kinda like duck sauce. The service is always great, with very prompt and attentive waitresses. The prices are very good, probably at least half the menu is $9.99 per entree. Their sushi is good though I admit I've had better. Sushi prices are mid range, $8-12 for most rolls. I've been many times and i don't plan to stop, if you've never been here you're missing out on great food.

  • Rob S.

This place is heaven. I go here with my fiancé at least twice a month. Food is outstanding, service is excellent and the food portions are large, especially the sushi rolls. You get a lot of bang for your buck here, it's a must visit.

    (5)
  • Violet R.

Ok.so this place has good food but after the horrible service the last few times, and girls in micro skirts, and the constant health violations...I'm in search n of a new Thai place. Today's server was so rude....and didn't even ask me what kind of spice level I wanted on my food....I was done. I guess her dress was enough to impress every customer beyond thinking about their food.

    (1)
  • Julie R.

My high rating is based on the sushi. It is very delicious and fresh. Everything is good, but I particularly liked their Caribbean Roll and the staple Mexican Roll. The Thai food is about average - it's better than some places in this area, but by no means great. So if you're coming in, I highly recommend the sushi over the Thai food.

    (4)
  • Elizabeth N.

Ban Thai used to be my favorite sushi/thai restaurant. After seeing the violations on dirty dining, I'm appalled & disgusted! 20 dead roaches, 30 alive amongst 18 other health code violations! It's a shame because the food (I thought) & service were exceptional. My husband and I won't be returning & will find a new sushi restaurant to frequent.

  • Rarlys M.

Great spot! Loved the ambiance and the food was amazing! Great little gem. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The options and variety was abundant and my food was served in a timely manner and hot. My mother wasn't sure if she liked Thai food but after her experience she says she does! I'm a visitor to the area as well. Glad we listened to the yelp reviews!

After eating here a thousand times, I'm shocked I haven't reviewed it already. Before I begin, let's rewind a bit shall we? Way back in June of this year (2013), I moved from my beloved South Tampa to Clearwater. I was sad to say farewell to some of my usual dining haunts for dinner. I typically ate sushi at Soho Sushi on Kennedy. And while it's always good, I never raved about it. My boyfriend told me about Ban Thai, since I moved in with him, and how he was a frequent diner because it was the BEST sushi ever. He went on and on and I was all "Yeah, ok buddy. Whatever." Hee hee... Anyway, after my first visit with him, I was hooked. It seriously is one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been too. The bf was 100% right. We always get the spicy tuna roll and the rainbow roll. The fish is super fresh as are the sushi fillings and fixings. The service is impeccable. Our water glasses get refilled faster than I can drink them and the servers wear lovely traditional garments. I haven't even tried their Thai food yet but if it's anything like the sushi, it's probably a little bit of heaven.

I really enjoy eating at Ban Thai. They can get pretty busy for dinner hours but they handle it pretty well. The interior is really adorable because it makes you feel like you're actually in Thailand. They also have REAL Thai speaking employees so you know you're getting the real deal. The food is pretty good here, I've never had any that was bad. I enjoy the chicken curry dishes and my all time favorite Chicken Coconut soup. It's loaded with vegetables and chicken. It's tangy and creamy at the same time. I love how it's made here. The sushi is also pretty good. Normally it's not as great when you get it from let's say a Chinese or Thai restaurant but the sushi is really loaded with ingredients and well made.

  • TJ M.

Cute restaurant and good service but I found the food to be just average. Maybe it was what we ordered, for example the fresh spring rolls were bland and the Tofu in my dinner was very soggy.

    (3)
  • Teresa L.

Sushi was good and fresh. Sake was weak. Service was very good. Will go back to try the Thai next time.

I have always been amazed by restaurants who handle large parties well and with efficiency and quality. 18 of us dined at Ban Thai yesterday for lunch and had an amazing experience. The server was very attentive and patient with explaining about the different levels of Thai spices. Our lunches included a chicken soup which was flavorful and adequate. We also received a spring roll which everyone enjoyed. I heard nothing but raves about the lunch entrees...everything from duck entrees to tofu meals. Quite honestly...mine was PERFECT!!!! The flavor, the spice, the quality of the proteins in my meal...just excellent. For dessert, we received the complimentary Thai donut strips that finished off the meal perfectly. I will continue to patronize this restaurant as well as recommend it to my friends and business associates. Thank you, Ban Thai!!!

The lard na seafood is the best... Being mixed with thai, I try to find the best traditional thai food out there. Living in Tampa it`s been really hard to find! Tried this place out and love it there. Went there for lunch so you get a soup and egg roll which I don`t care for and after your meal you get a donut dessert which I also don`t care for but the gesture is pleasing. The layout OMG is awesome, I love how nice and decorated it is. Overall it is kind of pricy on certain things but yet again which thai/sushi place isn`t. Hope ya'll enjoyed this review. :)

Sushi is less than extraordinary. Reminds me of. Publix sushi, with a crap ton of rice and not much flavor, unless you smother it in sauces. This is a thai place and their thai dinners are good, not great. Service is lacking and not very warm or welcoming. Wont be wasting money here again.

I do not live in Clearwater, and I decided to do take out and bring dinner back to my hotel. I ordered the egg rolls (which were not good) and the chicken curry. The curry was good, but not anything to write home about. The ambiance of the restaurant was fantastic, and the order was ready ten minutes after I called. Not the most amazing Thai meal I have had, but not bad either.

Best Spicy Tuna roll anywhere! I have been going Ban Thai for years. Compared to other sushi restaurants they are superior. The ginger salad is HUGE! Other sushi joins fall short in this department. Its not only huge, but tasty! The sushi is FRESH and always consistent. I've never found a better spicy tuna roll. The atmosphere is also fun. All the servers wear authentic Thai and Japanese costumes. If you are close, this is the place to try.

This place is GREAT! Great authentic thai food and AWESOME sushi!!! You will not be disappointed. The food is fresh, great presentation, and quality ingredients. It is not cheap but for good food, it is certainly not expensive. I recommend the tempura and the sushi, especially the volcano, spider, and tampa rolls. The place is small but the service is great and I have even gone to the sushi bar by myself, because it is that good. Also, for the guys or girls, who care, the staff is beautiful.

Very good. Food was great, especially the spring rolls and sushi. Appreciate the attentive, yet unobtrusive service you often find in asian restaurants like these. Portions and prices unbeatable. Definitely try it.

Awesome place! Great food, fast and attentive service. Extremely reasonable portions and prices. The decor was lovely and there were no complaints in our group of three.

Chicken rice soup was a little bland... Sushi took longer than normal to come out... Thai tea was great... And the free coconut ice cream at the end more than made up for the seating wait

I really liked the grouper, sushi and just about every thing else and they had the best grouper I ever tasted. I gave it 4 stars because the food , service, and everything else was great. Would try to sit in the main part and not the extended section.

    (4)
  • Mina K.

I'm thinking three to four stars. Food was very good, sushi is great, and service was good. Just don't try to give out that flower on the table that usually dies after a day or two because they'll chase you outside and ask you for it :-D

Besides Thai Spice, Ban Thai is one of the best Thai places in Clearwater. Service is quick and most of the Thai ladies, dressed in lovely Thai dresses, are charming and nice. Atmosphere is a bit tacky, but it actually gives off a soothing Thai ambiance. We typically get the chicken and rice soup, Thai krab rangoons (there is a hint of curry in it, mmmm), pad thai, pad see ew, or any of the curries. Food is heavenly, figuratively and literally - aka, watch out for the msg coma! Ban Thai, in addition, offers sushi as well and there is kind of a separate side for the sushi. However, I think you can order sushi from either side of the restaurant. Most of the sushi rolls are decent, but I recommend the Thai dishes!

    (4)
  • Amy A.

$10 for a spicy tuna roll that had very little tuna and just tasted like an avocado roll. The Philly roll just tasted like cream cheese. Over priced and below mediocre. Headed to another sushi place now because it was over priced and I'm not satisfied still hungry for sushi..

This is my GO-TO place when I'm craving good thai with great service!! Favorite dish?....Chicken curry with peppers, Hot of course!!! You are missing out if you don't try it!!!

I truly enjoy coming back to Ban Thai when I'm in the mood for some good Thai cuisine. It is a Thai/Sushi combo place which might deter one from considering the joint, but you should try it anyway. Their rolls are pretty generic but the quality of fish is makes it worth while if you're in the mood for sushi. Personally, I go for the Thai dishes. Their panang beef brings me back all the time. I recently tried it with just veggies and tofu since I wasn't feeling to carnivorous that night. Just as fantastic without the beef! I also recommend the Amazing Beef. It will live up to its name. Believe me. Food comes out of the kitchen pretty quick. In fact, sometimes, I am truly impressed at how fast the food shows up on the table. Service staff is friendly. The ambiance itself gives off a very authentic feel. It's pretty small with a bunch of tables kinda jammed right up in there to maximize seating space. Despite its tight seating arrangement, I don't feel as though I'm intruding on another party's dinner when we're seated at a booth. Check this place out. I can't imagine coming out terribly disappointed.

Food is good here...prices are alittle high for Thai or Sushi. I order here and take it home alot. 8 out of 10 times there was something wrong or missing. I think I'll eat there from now on. The sushi is great size portions. Pad Thai is good was well.

    (4)
  • Delano T.

The service was good. I had the Pad Thai and it was authentic. I also ordered from the sushi menu and they had a variety of choices. The sushi was very good.

Been going here since it was on Ponce De Leon in Clearwater back in 2000 and best sushi in town along with fab Thai dishes. Highly recommend always consistent. Every time I have friends in town we head to Ban Thai:)

    (5)
  • Jeff L.

I've been here maybe five times or so since they opened in 2003. It's become quite popular in this part of town, but I think the food quality has gone down since then. The food is ok, although may be a bit too sweet to be authentic Thai. Their Frog Legs with Basil is one of their better dishes. The prices are on the high side for a Thai restaurant at this level. Expect to pay 15%-20% more than at other comparable thai restaurants. Dinner for two can cost you $100, as it did for me back in November 2006. Their sushi rolls are ok, but like their Thai food, it's probably not worth the price. Service here is alright, although I wasn't too pleased that if you ask them for an extra bowl of rice, that they will charge you extra for that.

Had a friend take me to Ban Thai for dinner, as it's his favorite Thai restaurant in the Clearwater area and he dines there often. Somehow Ban Thai has escaped my Yelp searches for Thai in my neck of the woods. Ban Thai is located at the end of the plaza on the northeast corner of McMullen Booth and Enterprise, and it sits directly facing Enterprise. The interior is very nice, with about 80 seats, nicely decorated in Thai style, and the hostesses were kind and attentive throughout our meal. After seating us immediately when we arrived, they took our order once we checked out the menu which is expansive, and can be found here: menusearch.net/tampa/res… They also offer a sushi menu which has many excellent choices. On a first visit, I usually try any Thai restaurant's pad thai, assuming if they can do it well, hopefully the rest of the menu is successful. As he was quite hungry, my friend ordered a big quantity of sushi, with about 20 completely different pieces of various varieties. Apparently you can do this (perhaps for a large order...not sure about small orders) if you speak to your hostess to correctly mark your sushi menu, as they'll do their best to accommodate you instead of the usual multiple piece orders on the menu. While I usually drink Chang beer from Thailand, Ban Thai offered my first opportunity to try Singha beer, which was excellent. In appropriate time our food arrived. My friend's big order of sushi was served on top of a huge bowl of ice, insuring maximum freshness, which I thought was a great touch. My pad thai covered a good sized platter with fairly typical ingredients of rice noodles sauteed with shrimp, chicken, eggs, ground peanuts, bean sprouts and scallions. The pad thai was quite good, with the sauce not overpowering the ingredients and letting them shine through. My friend usually gets sushi, and he said it was great as always. As for value, most all of the standard meals are ~$10, and the specials range from ~$16-23. I found it an excellent value, especially considering I easily ate only half and took the rest home. And the sushi was well priced, especially considering the ability to order individual pieces on such a large order. Ban Thai will definitely move into my rotation of regular restaurants, and I'm anxious to get back and try other dishes. I'll update my review when that happens. Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Food: 4 Value: 5

The Red Curry is inedible. Sweet and watery it's not worth the $7.44 they charged because it shouldn't of been sold in the first place. Disgusting. They included and oil soaked - sopping with oil egg roll and disgusting corn sugar dipping sauce.

Never disappoints! Friendly service and great food. We never hesitate to get the panang chicken or a red curry, even the chicken fried rice is a meal in itself.

This place has the best sushi! Don't let the Thai/sushi title in their name fool you. They are excellent at both! You have to try the lobster roll. It is as authentic as it comes for Thai food (Thai cooks) and doesn't come with that artificial coloring that you normally see at those other restaurants. On top of that, the service is excellent.

The service was okay. The rolls I received were falling apart. The smoked salmon had a mushy texture. I won't be returning.

Before i begin this review, i feel compelled to explain that while i have used yelp countless times in the past, this is actually my first user review. ( the first of many i hope..). For those of you reading this now, even if all you're doing is skimming the entire reviews looking for overall rating, price, ambience, ect, let me say that i strive to provide the type of honest, unfiltered, straightforward review that i myself would expect when trying to navigate through the labyrinth of places, locales, and venues offered as reviews on yelp. Now that i've gotten that out of the way let's continue ( if you're not totally bored or have skipped this review already). As some of the other yelpers have pointed out already, Ban Thai is truly a hidden gem among an otherwise unassuming and lackluster strip mall filled with more conventional and well known establishments. The decor of ban thai is among the most unique i have found in the st.petersburg/clearwater/ tampa metropolitan area. To some of you reading this that may not matter so much as long as the food is par excellence right? However to others, among you ( including myself), decor adds an element of mood and excitement that complements and enriches the dinning experience whether that experience be your local mcdonalds the most ubiquitous of burger chains or something more exotic and ethnic like the place you're reading about now. Ban thai does really well at decorating the interior to use the restaurant's rather limited space to maximize a sense of the Thai food experience. I'm a big believer that one visit may not provide sufficient enough material to write a comprehensive review( we've all had one particularly positive or negative experience with a business which was enough to color our entire thought of them and left us either singing it's praises or running for the hills. ) With that in mind you should know that i've been to Ban thai at least a dozen times and every time i've come, they haven't disapointed ( fingers cross) . Pricing is a tad on the higher end, i suspect due to the fact that most ethnic restaurants aren't as popular as your local neighborhood bar and grill ( applebee's , chillis, T.G. I. friday's anyone?). However if you come during the lunch time (12-3pm) you can find reasonable deals on some of the more popular thai dishes like pad thai and gai pad prig. these specials usually include an appetizer, soup of the day, and main entree. For those of you unfamiliar with thai cuisine or its base flavors , to start you may try chicken satay( flavored and grilled chicken strips on kebob sticks served with a side of peanut sauce- a main staple of thai food ), or try a soup like tom kum gom. Service wise, the staff i've encountered have been cordial, polite, attentive without being overly pushy, and generally pleasant people. In summation, for those of you who haven't yet left this review for its overly long nature, Ban thai provides equal parts enjoyable, delicious dining, with a solid introduction to the thai food experience. Go ahead and give it a try, who knows..... you may find yourself with a lingering desire to become one of the loyal and frequent Ban Thai customers.

Great atomsphere, great food. Friendly and fast service. The only reason I am not giving this place five stars is because it was a little warm in the restaurant. This could be because of the amount of people or because the door was opened a lot. The place was very busy but we were seated immediately. Prices in my opinion were very reasonable.

We tried the app sampler, which had all fried foods and everything was delicious except we didn't care too much for the spring roll (deep fried cabbage roll). The egg rolls, curry crab rangoon, wontons, and shrimp tempura were great, served with two dipping sauces. We also had a chicken in cream of coconut soup that had a sweet and sour taste that was wonderful. For salads, we tried the squid salad and a noodle salad. The noodle salad reminded me of a Vietnamese Bun dish and I loved it! The squid could have been cut smaller to make it easier to eat, but I thought it was cooked well. We tried the sexy man and crunchy sushi roll along with some white tuna and thought they were all good. Frog legs had a nice breading and good flavor, however, I will note that some people in our party did not care for them (I just think they couldn't get past it being frog legs!) The best was a chicken panaang dish that will have us going back for more! Decor was average and service was prompt. Overall, it was a very good restaurant and I hear you get a lot during lunch time!

We love Ban Thai. Great atmosphere, service, and food. Sushi and curry dishes are excellent. It can get crowded on weekends and their air conditioning isn't so great....so go on a weeknight if you can.

Ban Thai is not a run-of-the-mill Thai place and it's decor, menu, and food quality reflect the higher quality. Fantastic job with their duck recipes--cooked perfectly ($18). Ginger chicken also delicious ($12). Vegetable cooked properly--still crisp and fresh and cut fancily. Served with edible flower garnish. Meal arrives hot. They have a "macrobiotic" page of more healthful options and graciously substituted their brown rice, which had a fantastic nutty, earthy flavor. Lost a star because waitress was more attentive to socializing and cell phone calls than keeping water with lime filled. Took so long--I skipped dessert and they have some yummy ones!

I am Thai so I am very particular with Thai restaurants. This place gets it right. For the price, you can't get better authentic Thai food! I love their Siam grouper lunch special! Where else can you get fresh grouper prepared thai style (rad prik, chilli/garlicky sauce) for $10. Their fried rice and basil beef was great as well. Service is great-- fast and polite. Sushi here is pretty good too-- fresh fish and well made. Five stars all the way.

Wow! Who would expect yet another really excellent Thai restaurant in a strip center in Pinellas County. That makes three of them. Ban Thai is a beautifully decorated place, with really nicely-prepared Thai food, and is worth some extra driving. My only complaint might be that on occasion, the food could be served warmer. It's a great family place, and prices are low enough that you can afford to introduce the children to something far more interesting from another part of the world, than taking them to another pizza place.

We've eaten here 3 times, and it always comes highly recommended by friends, but we just can't rave about it. The last time there, we both got the coconut chicken soup (I guess Tom Kha Gai). The soup wasn't as rich and flavorful as I've had at other Thai restaurants; my wife agreed. I also like my soup Thai hot or better, and was very disappointed in the meager amount of heat present. For an entree I ordered the "amazing beef", which was good. The more I ate, the better it got. I would order it again. The last time I was there, I ordered a house specialty shrimp dish, which was ok but expensive. I would not try it again because there just wasn't anything too special about it. My wife was semi-satisfied with her entree, but not overjoyed. In defense of the restaurant, it was very, very busy the last two times we were there. The decor is detailed and very nice. We'll probably try it again at a less popular time.

The hostess is very pretty. The Tempura Roll was amazing and I wasn't even hungry when I went there! The rolls are mostly between $8-12. I will be going there again, no doubt.

Yet another asian restaurant that does not understand what vegetarian means, let alone vegan. This restaurant used to be a favorite of mine because of their fair sized vegetarian menu - until that is, I asked about what went into their 'vegetarian' items. ALL OF THEIR SAUCES CONTAIN FISH OIL! My partner and I asked for no fish oil, just as a double safety measure in addition to ordering off the vegetarian menu (a no brainer, right?) and was told by our server that all sauces already contained fish oil and there was no way to have the vegetarian dishes without them. I can't imagine how many vegetarians/vegans they are duping simply because people believe they don't have to ask, thinking this restaurant is polite enough to have a vegetarian section. When we informed the waitress that we couldn't eat here she became rude and brought us our bill (for the two beers) immediately. This place does have steamed vegetables and rice, which is the only vegetarian item on the menu. I think I'll stay home.

Yes this place is a bit pricey, and they do charge quite a lot for their brown rice, but I really do think the food is quality. Even after moving to Seattle and having Thai food there (which is supposed to be amazing), I still never found a place as delicious as Ban Thai. They have the best red curry ever! And they have a whole macrobiotic section for the health conscious. I'm not really sure where the one reviewer that said they put fish oil in all their sauces got that from because after reading that I got scared and asked a waitress there and she said that they didn't. I hope she wasn't lying...eek! But regardless, I think this place is veg friendly, and if not then it is great for people who don't care about that stuff.

We came from DC area and hopefully to have a good dinner at Ban Thai but it's disappointed us. We ordered three dishes Yum Seafood, Grouper garlic, and Beef with pepper. When we order Yum Seafood speaking in Thai the waitress did not understand the language. The Grouper Garlic dish is not good, it was worst than poor Chinese carry out stir fry. The Beef with pepper is below average, the beef have no season. We did not taste any Thai flavor came out from the Grouper and the Beef dishes. One positive thing the Thai Ice tea is good I would go second for.

I wish I could've tasted a few more items before writing this review. I ordered the crispy duck lunch portion, which was mediocre. I've had better Thai food in New Orleans. They do have a macrobiotic menu section for the health-conscious. The interior is very nice with traditional and unique booths and decorations. The service was good despite being quite busy during lunch rush.

I am writing this review as I eat (we did carry-out tonight) and I am outstandingly pleased! Hands down the BEST sushi I have ever had. Gourmet. The restaurant itself is beautiful with friendly staff. The price is typical for a good sushi dinner. Can't wait to go again! We will surely be regulars at Ban Thai.

This is the very best sushi we've ever eaten, and we just moved here from the Washington DC metro area that has vast numbers of good thai and sushi restaurants. The lobster roll is unbeatable!!!!!!!
