Very disappointing. Generally the food was passable-but no better, though one in our party had to send his dish back. Service was surly and inattentive. Perhaps the late night bar/live music scene is better, but I don't intend to find out. We had not expected anything more than pleasant and tasty. We got far far less.

Sat at the bar for a casual meal. Great lobster cake and soft shell crab sandwiches. 4 stars is for food. Excellent casual fare.

On May 29, 2015 we were out boating and had an issue with the boat. Our Captain assured us he could fix it but we would miss our dinner reservations on the beach. It was myself and 8 girlfriends we started at Tween Waters pool for a cocktail and then moved Crows Nest. We were in bathing suits and cover ups. We had a fantastic meal and Casey the bartender, which is where we all sat, was more than accommodating. She was a 10! We had so much fun dancing and talking to other patrons that we opted not to go back on the boat. Our Captain Shane Waterfront Wilson was a little reluctant to leave us but Casey assured him she'd make sure we didn't miss the last taxi out! She did just that called for us and made sure we all made it out! Can't wait Togo back on our next visit

I'm not really sure why the reviews for this place are so poor. It's a standard bar with typical bar food and decent drinks. But you don't come here for the food and drink, you come for the crab races!!! The race is VERY entertaining. I cannot understand why people are complaining about getting squirted with water. It's not like the host/mc has a high pressure hose. We are talking about a little spray bottle that's more mist than water. (Also they send a written warning to every table about participants getting wet, etc) Is he a bit rude? Of course it's part of the act. I can totally see him accidentally drop a swear by mistake during the kids show (he didn't when we were there). He did admonish one parent with a two year old for messing with the table. The parent got embarrassed and left. But it's actually good that they left. The last thing he needed was the two year old picking up the crab and putting it in her mouth. Overall excellent and unique experience. Some of the people that put poor reviews on this site about the mc really have no clue. My kids had a blast even when the mc made fun of the name my 6 year old gave his crab. People need to have a drink and lighten up.

We are locals and have been many times. However, tonight was a bust. We had family in from Pittsburgh and were going to the beloved crab races (who have been before) and almost had to be life flighted to hospital. My 11 year old niece has major food allergies which were clearly outlined to our waitress Tania F. No dairy, eggs, peanuts, shellfish. She informed us that a hamburger with mashed potatoes would be no problem. We asked again are you sure there is no butter in mashed potatoes? No problem. Food was delivered and we were in shock. Niece was given a hamburger on top of a BUTTERED bun with BUTTERED MASHED POTATOES and side cup of MAYONNAISE. WHAT??? Thank Goodness my niece is very aware of the situation and knew right away not to touch a thing. When we confronted our waitress her response was oh really butter in mashed potatoes and on bun. Which led us to believe none of our concerns were communicated with the kitchen. We later talked to a manager who sent out a new hamburger but too little too late. So disappointed and we will not return as we could have lost a loved one as that is how severe the allergies are. Never been a concern before here as wait staff has been on top of it but not this time. On a side note, Dan, at the bar was very accommodating when our waitress was overwhelmed with other tables and the entire situation.

We went to the Crow's Nest for drinks and to experience the crab races. This should have been a fun activity--instead it was completely lame. The presenter was crude and rude and far from funny. We were told later that we should have received some kind of written disclaimer in advance of the activity. We didn't. Curiously, what does it say? "Beware of jerk? Careful, this idiot might spritz beer on your mother-in-law?" I'm in the tourist industry and I really can't imagine hosting a regular activity of being offensive and rude to my guests. Are the owners really happy that this is how their guests are treated? I guess that I just wouldn't equate crassness with my expectation of a resort on Captiva. Are they trying to be Daytona or Cancun or the Jersey Shore? I was later told that we should have expected to get sprayed with water. That would have been OK. But the presenter really did pick up a patron's beer and spray it around. Should that be acceptable? When I later complained to management, I was told that the crab race presenter was always a hit. If so, why did the bar manager that evening tell me that he has to apologize for that jerk on a regular basis? Hmmmm.....

We come to Captiva every year, so we are not newbies to the area. The calamari was chewy, undercooked and not good,we actually didn't even complain about it. My fathers shrimp was too salty to be eaten, he sent it back, which he never does, and the manager came and brought a menu over to the table to reorder, and never spoke A word to us! I guess since the waitress was getting a guaranteed 20% for a group of 10, she really didn't care if we were pleased or not! We will NOT go back, not because of the food issues, but because the management doesn't care about it's customer!!!

The Good: The drinks at the table were VERY strong. The hostess and servers were all very friendly and welcoming. The food (I ordered the Prime Rib) was better than expected, considering the past reviews I've read. The Bad: The men's restroom was a giant mess. Very gas station'esque. There were paper towels littered all over the floor and it didn't appear very clean. One did not need a blacklight to imagine the type of DNA lurking about. Yuck!! The Ugly: The Crab Race MC (his name escapes me) made my list of "TOP 5 BIGGEST DOUCHEBAGS EVER". He proudly announced that he's been the Crab Race MC at the Crow's Nest for 25 years or so. How is this humanly possible???? Have the Crow's Nest owners ever watched this guy in action?!?!? If so, are they blind and/or deaf?! Think about the legions of poor German and French Canadian tourists who were exposed to this guy's stupid-ass shtick over the years! I cringed several times at some of his off-the-wall comments he made to good paying customers and I'm FAR from someone who cringes easily. (Personal message to the Crab Race MC guy: You are about as funny as chlamydia in a paper bag! YOU alone are the reason I will never ever ever ever ever never never ever never ever ever never never never ever never ever walk into the Crow's Nest again in my lifetime. Did your mother drop you on your head as a child or something for you to act the way you do towards people? Booooo to you, sir. You are low-life island trash. I hope those racing crabs aren't the only other crabs you have in your possession, if you catch my drift.) Conclusion: I'd rather eat the sand across the street on the beach than to go back here. ....But I'll order a drink from the bar!

Worth a visit if only for the Crab Races: when I was a kid this was always one of the highlights of every trip to the island. It's probably inappropriate if you're big into PETA, but perfect if you're into United Way (which they donate the proceeds to). They have a big bucket full of hermit crabs you can pick from, so you can select for color, lucky number, size and vigor of the crab, etc. Tim, who always hosts, is somewhat of a comedian and puts on a energy-filled show. Now it's more fun for the tackiness factor--and tackiness is damned fun. They race on Monday and Thursday nights: one earlier, more family-friendly one at 6, and another more alcoholic-friendly one at 9. Choose wisely: very different experiences!

We will not visit again. Fish tacos, not great. Seafood pasta, barely edible. Even the children's pasta was sub par. We sent it back. The beer was cold and the wine was good. If you're staying at the resort, do yourself a favor and get in the car and drive somewhere else for food. Probably a much better bar than restaurant.

The crab racing MC person was truly abusive - I would never want to go back here again.
