I was visiting the Wilmington area with a friend. I asked about the local bars and he suggested this place. The beer selection was good, and they had a sausage and beer pairing special that day. Staff is friendly and the prices are decent. If you're in the area and looking for some good beers and good bar food definitely check this place out.

2nd time that my wife and I have eaten here. We went last night, Monday evening, very easy to find a table. I had remembered the food being memorable and that's why we came back. Last night's meal was wonderful. We started off with the hummus platter. It fed both of us with a large portion of a light and freshly made hummus topped with feta cheese. Along with carrot and cucumber chips, just cut, and flat bread. Wife had a black bean burger with fries which she enjoyed and I had the Ulysses Steak Frites, a 8 oz Sirloin with a side of squash and fries topped with parmesan. The steak was done as I asked and it was very tender. I had a Brooklyn Brewery porter from draft (they had about 14 beers on tap) and my wife had a Woodchuck cider also from draft. Followed the meal up with Strawberry cheesecake which was very creamy with a nice graham cracker crust, and actually was a Strawberry cheesecake and not some out of the box plain cheescake with a lop of berry syrup on the top. We had a pleasant time too as the waitress was attentive and the ambiance of the place tastefully done. The only reason I subtract a star is the offerings could have a few more items for vegetarians for my vegetarian wife. Otherwise check this place out. Don't by pass it because it is in a strip mall. It is a gem.

Taste Quality: Party of 6 ordered a variety of items from the menu: the chicken cheesesteak (see pic) which came with fresh kettle chips, Margarita pizza, caeser salad, catfish Reuben, just to name a few. All were fresh and delivered on nice, modern plating. Delicious fare from a local restaurant and not in a 'generic' way. Did not order alcoholic drinks but saw a medium crowd enjoying the bar. Pricing: Decently priced. Appropriate for their brand and ambiance, reflective of North Wilmington. Seating/Atmosphere: Tables are not crowded together. Decent A/C, soft lighting and interesting decor, representative of a true pub. Music played lightly in the background. Dinner guests consisted of a more mature crowd and working professionals. Service: The hostess was not overly friendly but our main server was satisfactory. They may need to improve their 'welcoming'/hospitality traits for a more fun experience (our server and hostess didn't smile much), but it's something a workshop training could fix. Location: In a plaza, next to Rite Aid and a string of stores and smaller eateries. Outside is deceiving. The real attraction is inside. Parking: Shares lot with all plaza patrons. Easy to find a space. Time of visit: Dinner Likely to visit again: Yes, but only to host other guests who have not been there before.

Have I eaten here too often? When UGP opened, it was fresh & exciting. The menu was constantly changing. It was regularly something new and always very tasty. Recently tho, the menu never changes. It is static and the dishes do not have the original flair. I think this is due to the first owners building a great business, flipping it and the new proprietors not having the same imagination or talent in the kitchen. They do have lots of beer tho, so A+ on that.

I have no complaints about this place. It is absolutely amazing. Great atmosphere, not too loud, not too hot or cold, not too crowded. The decor is spot on, and I'm about to get another paragraph going about the food. First off, their beer selection is the best I've seen in Delaware. Hands down. Second, their entire menu looks delicious. I wanted like 10 things. The menu wasn't overwhelming but had a lot of unique things to choose from. I like that about restaurants. I want to go places that don't have menus you can't find anywhere else. Ulysses is JUST that. I ordered the Fire and Smoke pizza with the jalapeños on the side. AMAZING. So delicious. And my friend and I split their kettle chips w/ BBQ ranch sauce. I could have drank that sauce and called it a night and I would have been happy. Wow. Do not miss out on those chips and dip! I didn't get a dessert but my friend was extremely impressed and pleased with the PB&J pie! I would give this place 10 stars if I could. CANNOT WAIT to go back!!

First off, I gotta give a shout out to our fabulous server, Chase. He was attentive and had a great attitude the whole time we were there. On to the food: we started with the prime rib nachos and the crab & spinach dip to start. The nachos were good, but really should have been called "Cheesesteak Potato Chips" because that's what they are. The crab & spinach dip was delish. It's definitely my fave dish thus far. For the main course, I got the Catfish Reuben on brioche instead of rye. It was delicious. I'd order it again. My friends also seemed happy with their dishes. Tried the mushroom soup. Didn't like it, but it might be for someone else. Had wine as my beverage. Chardonnay to be exact. It was decent, but next time (yes, there will definitely be a next time), I'll go for one of the many tasty beers they have on tap. Overall, I would give Ulysses 4.5 stars, but settled for 5 since it's all Yelp allows. Plus, this place deserves the extra half star bc it's pretty cool for Wilmington, DE!!

Beer selection is A+. Pizza was tasty and the portion size was nice (split between me and two lady friends). Cheesesteak eggrolls were good, nothing to write home about but tasty. Loved the dip that came with my fries. I had a sandwich with broccoli rabe in it thay was soggy but tasty. The music and the atmosphere is five stars. This is a classy/hip bar that will surely impress your date, guys! Tattooed with a beard and a nice collared shirt is the type of style for this bar. Have fun!

I went here for lunch on Saturday and it was great! They have an awesome gluten free menu so that deserves a couple stars in itself. It was pretty dead when we went in, but our server was very attentive and accommodating. It is a cool layout and it would be a nice date night or happy hour spot. The dress is dressy casual. Definitely will be back for dinner to try their drinks!

My boyfriend and I went here on Sunday (05/03) with my sister and her husband for a late brunch. We hadn't been to this place in a while and decided to give it another go. I'd rather give this place a 3.5, but since Yelp doesn't allow half-star reviews, I decided to be generous and bump this up to a 4 for the overall experience. For starters, even though we made reservations for 2 PM, the restaurant was almost empty when we walked in. This could be either a very bad or a very good sign in general; for this experience, I'm rating it very good, as we received our food and drinks fairly quickly. Our waitress, Emily, was friendly and knew enough about the menu to point out favorite dishes. I decided to order a drink with my meal and got the Summer Toddy, which was a sweet and sour blend of brown sugar, honey, rum, and lemon. I had to sip it slowly because it tasted a bit strong and I didn't want to gulp it all at once. For my meal, I ordered the crab cake Benedict, which came with potatoes "O'Brien" (I have no idea what this means). They were small, cubed sauteed potatoes mixed with red peppers and onions. They were fine. The crab cake Benedict, on the other hand, was excellent. My boyfriend ordered the Chocolate Chip Short Stack pancakes, but was a bit bummed when Emily served him the dish with handfuls of chocolate chips tossed casually on top. Emily apologized and said there was an issue in the kitchen (apparently whoever made the pancakes forgot to mix in the chocolate chips in the batter). It didn't matter, since my boyfriend enjoyed his meal anyway, and his bacon came out nice and crisp. The amaretto whipped cream was also quite good. My sister ordered the Breakfast Burrito but could only eat half of it; she substituted the scrambled eggs for egg whites and said it was very good. Her husband had the Joyce Burger (bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and an onion mixture of some sort) and he thought it was good. To make up for the less-than-stellar "O'Brien" potatoes, we ordered an extra side of Parmesan tater tots, which were delicious. On the whole, we enjoyed ourselves at Ulysses and wouldn't mind coming back for another shot at brunch, or even dinner if we're feeling adventurous. ;-p

Went here a few days ago with a friends - had some good beers and the food was solid. I had the brisket mac & cheese with goat cheese and we split some appetizers. Not a lot of crazy stuff in the area, but this place has good drinks and good food and is a nice option if you are in the area.

We are practically in this places back yard so I am bummed I don't love their food. My husband is a beer guy and it is so convenient; we do still go here about once a month. I try to eat before hand. It's not terrible at all, it just all sounds so much better than it is: which is mediocre and inconsistent, like there is no chef back there doing quality control before cooks send stuff out half assed. Wings soggy, sandwiches thrown together. The burger is good and those prime rib nachos will kill any hangover. Just underwhelmed by the food coming out of this kitchen. We don't really mind but the bartenders are not super warm or welcoming, even on a slow night. Feel special if you get a hello or a smile when menus are dropped. Decor is super cool with white subway tiles and black and white striped walls with red accents. Kudos to the designer.

Made a trip out to Wilmington to meet a Delaware friend for dinner. The Germany-US game was earlier in the day and it was draft night, and the place was insanely packed. I understand it is not usually so intense here. We started with the red pepper hummus which tasted fine. It came with a ton of bread and cucumbers, but the advertised olives (we got 5) and feta (a sprinkling over the hummus) was more of a garnish than a serious part of the dish. I also ordered the veggie burger (which is black bean, not vegetable). It is house made and was tasty. It comes topped with avocado and mozzarella. It really needs a sauce of some kind, b/c the huge (and buttery, yay!) bun overwhelms everything else and it's a little dry. I added some mustard and it was quite good. Burgers come with chips, but you can herbed fries and malt aioli for $1.50. I highly suggest it. The fries and aioli were the highlight of the meal. The beer list is extensive and diverse (about 25 on tap and another 50 in bottles), but a bit overpriced for what I'm used to, even compared with center city Philadelphia. Service was very slow on our trip, but likely due to the servers being unaccustomed to the level of business they were getting on this night, and I would give it another try on a less busy evening.

Great bartender during the day..excellent drink list. Despite the carbs, you won't be disappointed by the home-baked pretzels!! It's a must try if you're living in the area.

I had the steak and shroom salad. My husband had the black bean burger with garlic mashed potatoes. Both were pretty decent. Food came out approximately 2 minutes after we ordered it which was almost disturbing. Inside is pretty cool for a Wilmington joint.

I was there on 5/16 sitting at the bar. The male bartender was either drunk or on something else. He was more interested in the female bartender then serving anyone. There were about 10 people in the bar, I waited about 5 minutes for him to come ask me what I wanted while he gave her a shoulder massage. Every table come up to the bar to ask for a drink or check bc he was sitting at a table with friends. At one point, the female bar tender was speaking to a guest and he was yelling ""RED, HEY RED, HEY RED" over and over again (the bartender had red hair). It's like this every evening I've come here

Stopped here with RJ and it was late so we weren't sure if the kitchen would be open. It was, but the late night menu was very disappointing. There wasnt a lot to choose from, and we really wanted Poutine. We both ordered the Chicken Nixon sandwich. The fries were burnt, and came with some kind of nasty sour sauce. The Palm Belgian ale BBQ sauce on the chicken also had a sour taste, and did not taste like ale or BBQ. We were starving so we ate it all, but neither of us were crazy about it.

My girlfriend had told me about this place and today I had a chance to go there for dinner with her. She ordered the Caesar salad and the lobster roll sandwich. I ordered the French onion soup and the Reuben and we shared half our sandwiches with each other. At first I was a little alarmed to see my Reuben made with purple cabbage however it was awesome! The french onion soup was delicious... very hearty and full of onions. I tasted the caesar dressing which I am told is made in house and it was so good I ordered a salad to go. Probably the bedt caessr dressing Ive ever had! The lobster roll, while not what I expected cause it was cold, was chock full of lobster meat and no mayo. It was pretty good but did not compare to everything else. They also make their own potatoe chips which were crispy good! I would definitely go back. The menu has many great choices but I think the onion soup and the Reuben are clear winners!

I've been here a few times - the beer & cocktail selection is always great! Love the atmosphere - super fun, reminds me of a British Pub with gastropub character. I went with 4 stars because the last few times I was there the food wasn't as great as the first few times. I'm hoping to stop in again & be able to update this to 5 stars!

Pleasantly surprised! So Scott and his friend and I went and I was expecting the worst since since Scott puts on a 'foodie' front. He hates it there- but then after the visit to Ulysses, I noticed its because there is something wrong with him- not the restaurants! The bar was great. They had a huge selection of craft beer. I was surprised. They made good mixed drinks too. Usually you dont get both. And then the food was great! They have these soft pretzels that are great. The service was good. very friendly crowd. Laid back atmosphere. Good prices. I don't see anything wrong with this place! Ill will be back- I just wont invite Scott!

The management and staff were very accommodating for a bachelor party(25 people) that I put together, from planning ahead of time and service. Ulysses offers an upscale bar environment with the right combination of fun. It's not to uptight that you can't cut loose and have a good time. They have a great selection of beers at reasonable prices, I liked the beer sampling. Appetizers were also reasonably priced and tasted great. I highly recommend Ulysses to anyone.

This place is going downhill. It was decent when it first opened but our last three experiences have been sub-par, so I doubt we'll be rushing to go back anytime soon.

I am a fan of Ulysses. It would get a 5 start rating, but they couldn't split our check (please let groups know that before they sit down), and their mix drinks sound good but aren't worth the price. But everything else about this place is very good. I haven't sat at the bar side but it looks fun.

I think this place is definitely going to be one of my new favorite spots. Located in a shopping center in Wilmington, Ulysses is a hidden gem. With fabulous decor and ambiance along with an impressive beer menu, it is the perfect place to eat dinner or grab a drink. With a beer menu that large, I find it overwhelming to chose just one. I'm glad they allow you to try a taste of any beer before you order it. I was informed that they updated their menu. I've tried the veggie burger and thought it was good, but it's not my favorite. The seasonal veggies of squash and zuccini were perfect, however. Perfectly grilled and perfectly seasoned. I really enjoyed the cobb salad best. Their pretzel sticks as an appetizer is also good. For dessert, the butter pecan ice cream was phenomenal. I rarely order dessert when I eat out, but holy moly. I have to order it everytime I eat here. (PS. The women's bathroom always smells like bacon. Strange observation, but true)

First time here my friend and I got burgers and pretzels and they were amazing. She also got the hamburger soup which was delicious. The second time back I decided to get a chicken quesadilla because it was one of the specials listed. It was "ok"... sort of bland. Lesson learned don't eat a quesadilla not from a hispanic restaurant. Otherwise, I will be back and stick to the american cuisine on the menu!!! Boyfriend loved all of the beer options

Ulysses is definitely one of our favorite spots for a weekend brunch and the occasional dinner. Everything is fresh and made to order. The menu is creative and delicious. I recently ordered their biscuits and gravy for brunch and it unfortunately came out a little cold. When I asked for it reheated I was thrilled to have the chef hand deliver a completely new plate for me. He apologized and when I told him I was happy they didn't just put it in the microwave he told me they don't own a microwave! I've also been amazed with the quality of their burgers. The Leopold is probably the best burger I've ever eaten and worth every cent of the $18 pride tag. Ulysses has a great selection of beers on tap as well. Definitely worth the trip.

Sandwiched in a strip mall between a Chinese restaurant and a Rite-Aid, although I guess you could could spin it as "plenty of free parking". I had heard good things though and my mood improved once we got inside. Nicely decorated (what is the bar made out of?), clean, all ages crowd with good music and friendly wait staff. Wide variety of beers available, although a little on the unusual side (lemon pepper beer anyone?) We had the pumpkin soup, mac and cheese and fish and chips. Food was OK but nothing special. Slow to get the check. Got the impression that if you're a local, they treat you better. In Delaware this might pass as excellent, but not where I'm from.

We attempted to eat there on New Years day, after waiting an hour and seeing a group of 8 that arrived 1/2 hour after us being served we started questioning the waitress. We and another table of two near us were also complaining. After announcing we couldn't wait they did comp our Bloody Mary's (which were very good). Left a very generous tip and had brunch at Angel's Restaurant just around the corner. Probably a blessing, though Angel's is a traditional breakfast place their food was well prepared and served promptly. After looking at the presentation of Ulysses American Gastro Pub food/menu I may be back for the Bloody Mary before Angel's.

We decided to give Ulysses another shot last weekend and we were disappointed once again. It was Saturday, St. Pattys weekend, but it was around 3pm so still quiet. Other than 1 or two tables and a few people day drinking at the bar, the place was empty. I ordered one of the flatbreads and my daughter got an order of french fries. nothing fancy, just wanted something to snack on. The flatbread was bland and not very hot. The crust tasted like it had been pre-made and therefore had the consistancy of cardboard and you could tell that the fries had been sitting around and were not freshly made. The place wasn't slammed, so how come they can't make a fresh batch of fries instead of serving ones that clearly had been made earlier in the day? When we wanted a refill on drinks, we had to wait around for our server who wasn't very attentive - same thing when we were trying to get the check. Everyone seemed to busy talking to a younger girl sitting at the bar who was clearly being overserved - At one point she had 3 different drinks in front of her! I just don't get it with this restaurant. The place has the potential to be so much better and I just don't understand why they don't put their best foot forward and hire a chef who either knows what he's doing, or at least isn't lazy. For me, this place is at of chances.

I don't go to places to find flaws and certainly couldn't find one here. We used the new Yelp! SeatMe reservation system and had no wait when we arrived. The place itself it beautiful. The décor and atmosphere created are wonderful and you have no idea you are in a strip mall. As you can imagine in a gastropub the beer list is a significant focus and the cicerone has done a tremendous job here. Stouts, Ales, IPAs, Cider, Saisons pepper the list from all areas and craft breweries around the country. The food is a star as well. Mussels five ways, burgers that require angioplasty, fish specials that are flavorful and bold, desserts that beg to be shared. This was a recommended location and now I owe thanks to that person. Take the drive, support the locals doing a great job. This is what Yelp! is all about.

From my limited experience, it seems like you have to work a little harder to find good places in Wilmington as opposed to, say, Philadelphia, but Ulysses is proof that they do indeed exist. A gastropub done right, with plenty of seasonal rotating beers and a competent control of the food. When possible, you should always begin a meal with poutine, and the crispy tater tots were buried under a pile of silky-smooth cheese sauce and more barbecued meat than seemed prudent. Almost a meal in itself, I had to restrain myself for the main course, some decently-well cooked scallops served with mushroom ravioli in a leek brodo. While the fresh pasta was certainly very nice, the broth was a little over-seasoned. Still, between the neighborhood, the beer selection, and the generous food, Ulysses has a whole lot of good going for it, and I'm a fan.

Have been back 4 times now and don't think a 5 visit will be happening... The food and service started as OK to begin with and slowly went down hill. The food, although the menu is written with vim and vigor mentioning an abundance of flavors and different food combinations, it simply does not deliver. Example - Chicken and Waffles. I had to try this. Was looking for the made in house waffles with the fried chicken on top. Oh yeah...I was going to love this entree. What I recieved? It seemed like a dressed up eggo waffle with a kinda soggy piece of chicken on top that made said eggo waffle mushy. Ummm...not what I signed up for. Especially since the price for 2 people, each having a drink usually amount to $55-$75. No thank you. Ashame...as I had such high hopes...

Was looking forward to a great meal, but was very disappointed. Ordered "crispy" thai tacos, and herbed pork sandwich and a rack of chipotle ribs. The "crispy" tacos were soggy and covered in a goopy, wet and tasteless Cole slaw. The herbed pork sandwich was also soggy and tasteless. The ribs had been sitting around for a long time, had a chemical aroma and flavor...dry and way overcooked. Very disappointing. Won't go there again.

I find it somewhat difficult to rate this place. With regard to decor, atmosphere, server and customer friendliness, it's a 5. With beer selection, it rates a 5. On it's negative side, I find the food to be very inconsistent. It's most recent chef has definitely made improvements but it seems like the quality of the dish is dependent on who's in the kitchen at the time you place your order. This problem seems to be consistent with all their previous chefs. No one seems responsible for overseeing what leaves the kitchen. I've had some great dishes on one night only to be totally disappointed with the same dish on another. Regarding beer, Ulysses has a great beer selection. Unfortunately, I find their selections getting to be ridiculously overpriced and outside the range of prices you'll find elsewhere. An 8, 10 or 12 oz. pour can range from 8 to 12 dollars and that's for a domestic craft beer. 16 oz. drafts on average can be 7-8 dollars. Once they get their beer pricing to within realistic competitive levels and their food to be consistent, I'll give it a 5 then. For now, I find it hard to give it any more than a 3.

We stopped in while passing through DE, we were happy to find this place since every other brunch spot had a long wait for a table. First thing I noticed were the slippery floors, they appeared clean but they had some type of 'film or residue' on them. We ordered mimosas to start and it took and EXTREMELY long time for them to arrive. This caused me great concern since I was starving and didn't want a long wait for food. I ordered the pancake sandwich with wild boar sausage, the pancakes taste homemade ,the sausage was very good and the syrup was more like warm honey but all together it was very tasty. My dining companion ordered the pork belly breakfast pizza. It was bland, they needed to use more of the siracha ketchup base, they should also season the eggs. It was a good concept since pork belly is really thick gut bacon and would work well on a pizza they just didn't execute it properly. I plan to try them again.

Thumbs up for a great vibe and tremendous beer selection. I had the smoked wings which seemed more like baked wings. They were under cooked and rubbery. The sauce tasted good but a lot like butter and liquid smoke. I'm not sure I believe they were smoked. It's a shame they could be a real stand out if better executed. I thought about ordering the fish tacos. A fellow diner did and they looked great. I'd also say they had a killer playlist on. I'd like to go back and see if it was just an off performance on the wings.

This place is tucked into an unassuming spot in a strip mall. Stepping into it, I wondered if I was somewhere I wanted to be...the word "yuppy" kept floating across my mind. I was seated in a corner area in the back, and was pretty much ignored. I ordered and received a filet mignon which was tasty, and would have liked to have another beer or two, but evidently I didn't strike the server's fancy. I won't be going back. I rather prefer going somewhere where I'm made to feel welcome.

3.8 work in progress ..... Named after a president and located in a very residential shopping center in Wilmington you wouldn't think that an American Gastro Pub would fit between a Rite Aide and a Subway. I had heard about the opening a few months back and decided that I def needed to check this place out. The soft opening was last night and I heard nothing but good things so lunch plans were set and off we went. I met up with one of my favorite people for lunch around 11:45. It wasn't too crowded but there were a couple of larger parties already sitting in the dining room. As soon as you walk in you can see a lot of effort was put into the décor. Wood floors and plush lounge chairs take up the bar area and the dining room has a great color scheme black and white stripes and bright red walls. The bar area has ample seating and plenty of TV's throughout the entire restaurant. The beer list is pretty solid choices about 20 on rotating draft and 20 or so by the bottle. We weren't given a wine list but when I walked by the bar I saw a few bottles. I started with Saranac Pomegranate wheat and my drinking buddy did a Rogue brown ale. I opted for an app since I wasn't too hungry the trio of sliders comes with one of each (beef burger, pork and fish) I was able to substitute for all fish. Mini versions of the fish "Reuben" on buttered small brioche buns were brought to the table. The fish was slightly under done for my tastes but the flavor was still pretty solid and 3 small sliders were the perfect amount of food for me. My Friend got the short rib chili which she said was quite good. As a nice touch they sprinkle pumpkin seeds on top. 3.8 stars this place is definitely a work in progress and has loads of potential. I would like to see them offer a lunch combo or lunch specials in addition to the regular menu and of course HH never hurts. I will definitely be coming back its very close to work and my current residence.

This is an interesting place-an unlikely place in a strip mall. If you like beer, there are lots of choices both on tap and bottled. The food choices are more appealing than your usual local place. You can get mussels five different ways, but not with the traditional white wine and garlic. We got the Belgian and Dijon-the sauce is creamy as opposed to brothy.. You get at least two dozen mussels, plus fries with aioli and some toasted baguette. For entrees we ordered the shrimp tacos, deep fried rock shrimp with jalapeño peppers and guacamole, and the Joyce burger but ordered it with goat cheese rather than cheddar, and it came with bacon and onion jam.. The soft tacos were quite good, but the tortillas should have been warmed first. The bun on the burger was buttered, but over grilled and that imparted a burnt taste. These things were off putting but I hope they were just having an off night. Presentation is lacking a bit. Service is fine. The decor is mostly black with black and white horizontal stripes on the side walls. It's very dark and my older eyes struggled to read the beer menu so much so I was glad to have the flashlight app on my phone. It is LOUD, so don't expect to have an intimate conversation between the loud music and the customers, even in the dining room.

Living in North Wilmington for almost 8 years now, Ulysses may be one of the best additions to the neighborhood since I arrived. Nestled in between a drug store and a Chinese buffet I'd never set foot in, UAG is seriously the closest thing to "Cheers" that I've ever visited. No longer tasked with having to drive into the post-5pm ghost town known as "center city" Wilmington, the Northern burbs finally (thank God) have a place to go that's not named "Stanley's". Approaching their 1st "birthday", the U (as I call it) has efficiently evolved into everything we hoped it would. Were there some duds along the way? Sure - every new restaurant needs to feel things out and let their customers judge what should stay, and what should go. But we've watched the management and kitchen staff listen to feedback and in turn tweak certain dishes, introduce new ones for the changing seasons, and even get rid of the aforementioned "duds". Don't be afraid to speak up if you ever have a question or complaint - they actually do listen. Despite being a total meat eater - the Veggie burger is by far one of the biggest hits on the menu. Made fresh - not in that 'perfectly round out of a box' shape like you'll find at other places, I literally could eat this every time I'm there (and sometimes it feels like I do). The fresh baked pretzels and cheese sauce (which is like crack) now has a sharp slammin' mustard as an alternative dip. Definitely check out the specials while you're there - there's a reason they call them "specials". Maybe even more so than the food and beer at Ulysses to enjoy is the staff. If you're going to make a place your hangout, take the time to actually meet the people. All in all, Ulysses has taken the North Wilmington area to a new level, and I wish them all the same success in the coming years. If you had any doubts and are tired of the same old "big box" restaurants, this is the place to go.

I really wanted to like this place. The beer menu is quite extensive and the staff was very accommodating, but the menu kind of left me flat. The food combinatiions seemed to shout "trying too hard." (ie. duck confit pizza). I'm very simple, I guess, and this type of dining doesn't appeal to me (to each his own, right?). I ordered the fish and chips - they did a good job w/it, crispy, flaky, with malt vinegar on the side, and the cucumber slices were refreshing. The onion and stout gratin soup was delicious. If I was coming back, maybe just for some beers and mussels. The restaurant and bar was packed, so people must love it here.

The food is decent and beer selection is great. But they mistakenly charged my card multiple times for a total of nearly $600, instead of the fifty bucks I signed for. They reversed the charges, but this is gonna take a few days. Need to pay attention, guys.

Delaware definitely surprised me with their cute restaurants & awesome food. This place is no exception! HAVE THE BUCKET OF MUSSELS & SEAFOOD DIP!!!! It is to dieeee for!! Beers are also AMAZING. I wish we had this restaurant in California where I am from because I'd come here with my friends all the time if i could.

Love this place, amazing for dinner and brunch. Great beer selection and great brunch cocktails. I have been here at least 10 times and have only had one dish (buffalo chicken sandwich) that was mediocre. 99% of the time everything is great!

Went last night with a small group. Beer selection is huge and changes frequently. The food is always delicious. The maple bacon cookies for desert are out of this world. And the Peanutbutter brownie also good. Prices are high average. Our bill was $180 for five of us.

Stopped in here for some beers on a Sunday night. Not too many people in there. We had 2 beers each. The bartender was really nice and was waiting to close but did not rush us out. I will return to try some food.

I go here quite often, and it is by far my favorite bar/restaurant in North Wilmington. It has a great vibe, the food is awesome, and the beer/bar selections are fantastic. It has been a welcomed addition to the neighborhood, as the locals flock here weekly. The menu has creeped up in sophistication, and I have no qualms about it. If you are in to craft beer, and great food, then this is a great place to become a regular. I enjoy the burgers, pizzas, smoked wings, and mussell pots. The daily specials are unique, and intriguing.

I broke my own rule of not eating in a restaurant until it was open for one year. BIG MISTAKE I had a tiring day and didn't feel like cooking so I stopped in for Joyce burger & a pint. I agree with other posters that their beer offerings are nice. BUT the Joyce burger was a hockey puck. I hate when the server asks you 'how would you like your burger cooked?' and you ask for medium. It was almost not eatable. I guess the cook was texting while my burger seered! Drive over to Culinaria, no burgers, but a much better experience.

My wife and I returned to Ulysses for dinner. We're staying with three stars, here's why. We split the fried sweet potato ravioli as an appetizer. Not bad but woudn't have it again. The sweet potato filling could use some seasoning...something to give it a bit more taste then a baked sweet potato. The pasta shell was somewhat tough. I also had a cup of the mushroom soup. It's puréed - which was fine but a few more whole mushrooms would have made it better. I had the catfish reuben, which was as good as in previous visits. This is a very tasty sandwich - a four star item by itself. My wife had the daily special burger prepared with certified Hereford beef. It had asparagus and ricotta cheese - my wife requested that they not include the fried egg topping. She also asked for it medium-well; it came medium-rare. So, I ate half and my wife had half of my reuben. The burger was ok but a bit bland....but I'll reserve judgement on the burger's taste since without the egg we weren't having it as offered on the menu. On the other hand, no excuse for the incorrect done-ness. My wife had a side Caesar salad-I took a taste- we both felt the dressing was a bit 'vinegary'. I had the fries as a side - these were terrific as usual with a very tasty dipping sauce. So, the Reuben and the fries get four stars ....everything else a 2 or 3. Service was excellent - attentive and friendly.

I've been going to Ulysses since they have opened, I work on Philadelphia Pike so it's only a 5 minute drive. I always go on Wednesdays or Thursdays during the lunch rush. Danielle has been the bartender on those days and she always does an absolutely phenomenal job. She's always hustling and making good conversation, 10/10 bartender. The lunch entree menu scales from $10-$16, and the portions have always been more than enough to leave on a full stomach and sometimes with leftovers. Every once and awhile the food takes a little longer than average, but that being said I'm typically there during the lunch rush. Joyce Burger, Chicken Nixon and the Mile High 2.0 are slammin' sandwiches and all go great with a tall frosty beer. The Fish and Chips is also among my favorites. You HAVE to try the wings. They smoke them and come in a variety of flavors, but the best is the dry rubbed. I have taken several friends here and all of them say that they are the best wings they have ever had. I would have to agree. The beer selection is paralleled only by a handful of other restaurants in the state, and changes every few weeks. The 12 oz. bottles and 6-10 oz. glasses range from $6-$10 so if you're looking to drink 3-4 beers while you eat, expect the price range to go from "$$" to "$$$" I gave it two dollar signs because if you don't drink and you buy a lunch entree you're probably only going to spend ~$14, and even with a beer you're still only around $20. They have several larger bottles of micro brews and they can cost the upwards of $30. The wait staff when I'm not at the bar has always been very knowledgeable of the menu, and has a solid understanding of the beer list. They're very friendly and do an excellent job serving. The decor has also improved over the past year with new furniture and beer taps that decorate the dining room. I would say that the subway stripes in the dining room are strange, but it all has unique feel to it. Go and eat at Ulysses, you won't regret it.

Back visiting the rents from the left coast and decided to talk them into trying a new restaurant in the neighborhood. Big mistake. Started off with a decent beer selection. Loved that they have DFH 120 min IPA and and a large selection of other rare and high end brews. Other than that, it was a slow motion train wreck. For an appetizer started with the mussel pot. A good size pot was brought out to the table to split between my girlfriend and I. I open the pot to find only the bottom is covered with 15-20 mussels. 4 of them are closed, and maybe 4 others are dubious looking at best. At $15, or around $1.25 per mussel, one of the worst deals ever. Who serves closed mussels?? I ordered the pan seared duck breast medium rare with broccoli rapini, and my father and girlfriend ordered the fish and chips. The fish and chips were both soggy and the batter was inedible. The duck breast was RAW in the center, around the center, and almost everywhere else. Also garnished with rock hard cranberries. Broccoli rapini was boiled? or just overcooked somehow. It was mush. Told the server about the duck, the manager or owner came over and I asked to have it taken off the bill, and asked him to comp me a beer for the inconvenience, which he did. For dessert, my father ordered the fried ice cream which came out in the same soggy inedible dough used for the fish and chips? Amazing. Dinner for four, around $120 for a horrid experience. To top it off, as soon as we arrived home, I emptied the contents of my stomach onto the driveway. I took that as a bad sign, and the coup de grace. Peace out Ulysses. You will not be missed.

I have eaten here on a number occasions. The food was good. I particularly enjoyed the crab meat eggs benedict that I had for brunch. I also enjoyed the blackened catfish sandwich. On my last visit they ran out of my favorite craft brew. Service on each occasion was fair at best. My wife and I had to wait at the door to be seated for an extended period of time and the waitress seemed a bit rushed. I must say one major concern I had was the amount of Aryan neo-nazi propaganda on the cars of the employees. On each visit I noticed employees cars with confederate flag, and German Scull propaganda parked right in front of the Pub. I have seen the bartender and other employees get out of these vehicles and walk in to work. I must say this sets a very unwelcoming tone to the establishment unless of coarse they are trying to attract this element.

I'm giving Ulysses three stars...but I'm hoping to bump it to four in the near future. No complaints about the beer/wine/booze list...it's extensive and fun, and the managers know what they're talking about. But the food (to date) has been wildly inconsistent. Wings are fine, but generally overcooked. The spinach dip doesn't taste fresh, and the "homemade chips" it comes with generally taste burned, which overwhelms the spinach. Fish n' chips...well, let's just say they're not quite ready yet. There's ambition here, and that's good to see, but they've yet to find consistency, especially for what they're charging. But some items are on point. Burgers are great, Some of the appetizers are excellent, and the vibe (loud, but not overly hip) is refreshing for North Wilmington. So here's hoping Ulysses works out their menu...I'd love for them to stick around and become the new hotspot 'round here.

This place has phenomenal food. I can only speak from experience after one lunch visit but man oh man, delicious! I had the crunchy Rock Shrimp tacos and they are really good; you get 2 good sized tacos and a side of fries. The shrimp is fried and topped with an avocado salsa, fresh slices of jalepeno and gobbs of yummy fresh queso fresco. And the dipping sauce is really good. The atmosphere is like an upscale pub with fancier, tastier food. Can't wait to go back; next time for dinner! I was drooling over their menu for lunch so can only imagine that the dinner one is better! The staff there were super nice too and that gained a lot of points. We had a table of 7 during the lunch time rush on a week day and our drinks never went unfilled; we were checked on frequently.

I was really excited to eat here. I admit, I liked the atmosphere. However, I ordered the chicken and waffles and I didn't care for it. The balsamic flavor was too strong and made the entire dish soggy. On a high note, they do have a unique selection of beers for beer enthusiasts like my husband. This place would probably be good for a get together friends. Average food, but overall a nice experience.

I don't get the hype with this place. I've given it a few shots, and can quite honestly say this is not my go to restaurant/bar. Food wasn't awful, but it wasn't fantastic either. The burgers were Charcoal Pit quality. The drinks weren't great either. I'd rather just go to Joes across the street.

I went today with a friend who recommended Ulysses, and we both met for lunch. I liked the decor, very different, a mix of casual lounge/bar area and in the open, spacious back area are tables and booths. They have a large choice of beers to select from, probably similar to Brandywine Brewing Company's choices and then some; I got the Brooklyn Chocolate Stout. Very good. The Fish and Chips for lunch. and for dessert, the Chocolate Bourbon Bacon Brownie. All very good,. the Fish and Chips were alright, although the fish was moist and perfectly done, the breading was soggy and chewy, but that was really my only gripe. The Chocolate Bourbon Bacon Brownie, was different and delicious. I definitely will return to try more beers and a few more of the food choices

I am quite pleased by the interesting and relatively progressive menu offered here. Such is par for a "gastro pub" but not so much for a lowly strip mall in Delaware. Some decor and design choices seemed strange (subway tile wall?), but after seeing the menu, strange might be an appropriate style choice. The beer list is detailed and extensive, but I'm not sure if having so much information about a beer at my fingertips made it more or less difficult to choose. Apparently I chose wisely because the SA Choco Cherry paired perfectly with my spinach salad (with duck confit & fried pumpkin gnocchi, what?!-- definitely my new favorite restaurant salad). Mussels in different flavors are very vogue right now and I'm certainly not complaining. However, none of Ulysses's combinations sounded all that fantastic. We opted to try the fra diavolo for simplicity's sake, and they were just average. The mussels themselves were pretty flavorless and the spiciness of the sauce was one-note. It was a generous portion though, and included french fries. But I would much rather have had a couple of hefty chunks of crusty baguette, as there was plenty of sauce for mopping and french fries just would not cut it. My friend's steak frites was simple and executed correctly. He also enjoyed the side salad that came with it. I'll certainly be back again, because those burgers were calling to me.

My first time there and I am HOOKED. Great vibe and friendly service. I live near Trolley and it is worth the drive for the food and beer. Beer menu is extensive and well priced. I had the barley soup and a salad for a light lunch but can't wait to get back for something more substantial. My lunch buddies had a phenomenal pulled pork sandwich (very smokey but delicious) and a kielbasa sandwich. Both really liked them.

I revisited. Staff is very nice, surroundings are clean, and one of the only of its kind in the area. Having said that... Fried pickles are sprinkled with cinnamon ( has anyone told the chef that pickles and cinnamon do not go together?). I have yet to attend a function here where I am satisfied with the flavor combinations - other than the mussels, they did well on the mussels. Great beer selection but still overpriced, and what good is it if you just cant eat anything with it. I like the american pub, but Gastro needs to be taken out of the name.

Rapidly becoming my favorite place. We went on the recommendation of a co-worker, and I owe them HUGE. Awesome beer list, great servers, fantastic good. Classy ambiance and atmosphere without being pretentious. Every time we have gone, I find something else on the menu I want to try. The appetizers are amazing, the mussels especially wonderful. Cant wait to go back. Highest possible recommendation. if you like great upscale pub grub with a fantastic beer list, this is the spot.

Phenomenal food not to mention beer selection. Sean really knows how to make great dishes. Had the scallops with ravioli as well as the sliders. Top notch all the way. Don't be fooled by the location - this place is 5 star all the way once you step inside.

This is fantastic neighborhood bar tucked away in a strip mall in north Wilmington. The menu and decor may come off as a bit pretentious to some but it didn't bother me at all. This is our go to place when we are in town visiting family. There is a great beer list and the food was exceptionally good for a neighborhood bar. The wings and burgers were in particular were top notch. It is very encouraging to see the success of small indie restaurants in N. Wilmington. Ulysses has definitely raised the bar for restaurants and bars in N. Wilmington. Hopefully this will encourage new businesses to open and force established ones to up their games.

The family and I made the drive from Philly after seeing this place on a ch 10 show. It's was good! The steak & potato nachos were better than expected! This place is just awful. What were they thinking? The decor is a trainwreck, the service is laughable, and the food only reads good on the menu. Once it is in front of you, you immediatley find yourself locating the nearest bathroom for the inevitable barf-fest you are about to partake in. We were here on a Friday night and the restaurant was abandoned, and the bar area was half full at max. The people that were there didn't stay long and we found ourselves close to being the only people in the place the longer we stayed. From porcelain mooseheads, to zebra striped walls that make me feel like I'm at the makeup counter at Sephora rather than a restaurant, gives me the feeling that whomeever designed this place has no clue how to make a restaurant comfortable and inviting. It was loud and sterile all at the same time, go figure. The morgue-green floor in the bar didn't put nice thoughts in to my head, especially before digging into my veggie burger. There was a hollowed out canoe hanging from the ceiling on one end of the barroom, the ONLY reference to the ancient seafaring epic the restaurant (I am assuming) was named after. Other than that, we are left with white tile all over the walls that make me think I just stepped into a New York subway... also not appetizing. The lounge area with couch and chairs was awkward and not cozy, there was no art or decor on the walls to please the eye. The beer selection was good, but the menu was a joke, it was printed on copy-grade paper and the style was a darn excel spreadsheet! I was half expecting to see a column at the end indicating cost and profit-margin, but I guess they left that out. After acquiring our beers, we perused the menu and selected what we thought would be interesting choices to taste: Bacon Meatballs, Black Bean and Rice Veggie Burger, and the Margherita Pizza. Well.... they all were awful, a perfect ZERO. The bacon meatballs literally looked like fecal matter thrown into a bowl. They were overcooked and tough and had a disgusting canned ham quality aftertaste. The Margherita Pizza was edible, but it was unbelievably ordinary, with an obvious canned sauce, didn't I see "American Gastropub" plastered across the front of this place??? And finally, the black bean burger, loaded with salt and after eating about half of it, you need to throw in the towel because it is too overpowering. Speaking of throwing in the towel, the napkins are literally dish towels, I guess they were trying to be cute. I am never going back here.

My husband and I live within walking distance of Ulysses, so we were excited to try it out. The atmosphere is really unique and neat; upscale yet casual. The pretzel and cheese appetizer is AMAZING (we ordered two) and the Joyce Burger is definitely a winner. I agree with other reviews that the noise level is a bit loud, but that was our only complaint. We will be back!!

I love Ulysses!!!! I've lived in North Wilmington for nearly 3 years now, and this area was in desperate need of a great local pub / restaurant. When I saw the sign go up in their location, I was thrilled that a new place was coming to the neighborhood. Since their opening, my husband and I have been to Ulysses at least 6 times, and we've been very pleased each time. We've brought a number of friends who have also enjoyed it. Even my parents, who are not big restaurant-goers, had a great time and were still talking about the meal the next day! The food is all very solid - we've tried lots of different items on the menu, and nothing has been disappointing. The steakhouse nachos are a must have - really, really tasty! I also am a big fan of the buffalo chicken sandwich - the Ulysses version of this sandwich is a little different than most restaurants. I can't put my finger on what makes the sauce different, but it has great flavor. My husband and mom really love the duck entree. And, this may seem like a strange thing to review at a pub, but their coffee is fantastic! Of course, the beer selection is great, and always changing. The wait staff is wonderful with giving samples in case you can't decide which beer to choose! Ulysses also makes great use of social media - I love that they "tweet" when they are about to tap an interesting new beer! I'd love to see them add some more happy hour specials, and a beer flight so that you can try a larger variety in one sitting.

I soooo want to like this place! Visited first on new years eve around 4:30 pm, second visit was a few days ago. First of all this place is close to me, so close that if I loved the food I'd probably visit once or twice a week. They have a very large beer list, simply typed in MS Excel, with default Arial font. It would take about 4 seconds to jazz up the beer list to make it look presentable. For a place that seems to be proud of their beer list they certainly don't take any pride in presenting it to the customer. Both visits we ordered one of the cheeseburgers, most of the entrees on the menu seem overpriced, for the location and given our experience with the burgers I'm not sure I want to waste my money. On both visits I ordered my burger Rare. Rare to me means it should have a cool red center, yes I know I could potentially get ill, but that's the way I want to eat my beef! My first visit the burger was so well done I couldn't distinguish it from a hockey puck. My second visit my Rare burger came out well, thankfully with some ketchup it was edible unlike the first burger. I wanted to try one of the entrees but if burgers can't be cooked correctly I don't want to waste my money. I really don't understand how hard it is to cook a burger rare. On a high note, the pretzel appetizer is tasty. Will we be back, unlikely, we'll drive into town to the Ale House.

Like this place a lot. Good beer selection, some are a little pricey but still within reach. Food was good when they started, but it has gotten better and better. Anything with smoked brisket is killer. Good sauces, the Mussel pots are amazing. It can be a little loud sometimes. They've started bringing in live music here and there which is a nice change. Take some chances with the food, you may be surprised to find you like things that you normally wouldn't. And the daily specials are super creative. I like going here on a whim just to see what beer and specials they have. Staff is great and quirky and tend to be well informed.

We visited Ulysses on Friday at ~9 pm. I was immediately impressed by the décor (not what you'd expect for the location). Hostess quoted 20 minute wait for a table so we retired to the bar to unwind with a drink and scope out the menu. Extensive beer list with plenty of interesting offerings. Wine list was solid as well. Menu looked great! We're planning to come back to have a few beers and some apps at the bar. After 20 minutes exactly we were seated for dinner. We started with the shrimp and grits (not the usual preparation, but unique and tasty). Hint - it's not the creamy grits you'd expect. I had the short rib goat cheese mac and cheese. Not overly goaty, but nice and creamy with a slight twang. The short rib was cooked properly rendering out most of the fat and leaving only tender perfectly braised meat. I'd definitely order it again (my benchmark of a good dish). My gf ordered the rib eye. The steak was perfectly cooked. Only complaint is that the mashed potatoes were a little uninspired. We passed on dessert since we were stuffed, but the chocolate bourbon bacon brownie if definitely on my to-do list! If I'd change one thing it would be the noise-level. Unfortunately, we were subjected to the conversations of everyone within a 3 table radius. To be fair it was getting late as we finished dinner (meaning everyone was a few drinks in and getting loud) and the place was packed. As we left the bar was hopping. The couches looked like a comfortable place to hang out late night. Overall first impression was extremely positive. We're planning a repeat visit (and probably many more) in the near future. By far Ulysses is the most interesting new place to open in the area recently.

Great beer selection, a heads up on what beers will be tapped next/soon. A great place for a pint. It also happens to be about 130 yards from my childhood home, which brought back great memories, so that didn't hurt. If I still lived there, I might get into a little trouble with that much great beer so close!

I REALLY wanted to like Ulysses and would have loved to have a "go to" restaurant right down the street. However, I just couldn't. The food was good and definitely better than the norm. However, it just isn't worth the money. 2 burgers, 2 beers and soft pretzels were nearly $50, before tip. For those prices, they need to be fantastic burgers and they were not. I too have to note that it was loud in the restaurant, and it wasn't even packed. I may give it another shot, but for the price there are a lot of better choices.

Great atmosphere & a solid beer list. I've been there a few times and had the Mussels, Burgers & Wings which were all good. I was not a fan of the Fish & Chips which I found too doughy. I will definitely make this a regular hangout.

Went to Ulysses after hearing about it by word of mouth. I spent the first 18 years of my life within walking distance of this shopping center, so to see a new restaurant here had my hopes very high! Sadly I was let down and left actually wanting something else to eat. We entered and were greeted with a 45 minute wait. Fine by me, if the food and experience is worth the wait...I ordered the Steak Frites, this was accompanied by fries and a side salad. The steak was very bland absolutely no flavor. I'm not a good cook at all (hence the reason I go out for a good meal) and I could have easily made a just as good tasting steak. The fries were boring and bland as well and the salad was just a regular field green salad with some sort of mediocre italian type dressing. Service was decent when you finally got the guys attention. I left still hungry after I felt like I was waisting calories on food that I could have made at home and saved the $24 for the plate. Finally quenched my hunger by visiting a local ice cream shop and indulging in some calories that were much more well worth it! Won't be going back to Ulysses as there are many more tasty venues around for the same cost.
