Great food, and more variety than you'd expect from a cafe. Service can be a little on the slow side, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're in a hurry. But fine for a nice leisurely meal or cup of coffee.

Service, ambiance, service all 5 stars. On this beautiful summer night we had a relaxing, chill dining experience in this hidden gem in a tiny neighborhood of North Wilmington called Bellfonte. Located in an old house with a wrap around porch for outside dining, this place is a hidden gem. But the real thrill of dining here is the patio out back. There are maybe 6 or 7 umbrellaed tables set out back under trees in a nicely landscaped garden. Adding to the ambiance were umbrella lights and tiki torches. The libations menu was a nice surprise when we saw the very reasonable prices. Vegan Options are included in this eclectic and exciting menu. I had a hard time choosing but went with the Baltimore Slammer cold sandwich which was made with apple wood smoked bacon, guacamole, lettuce, tomato with chipotle aioli on a choice of bread. The chips that accompanied it were very good. Maybe homemade? My honey had the Carolina BBQ pork sandwich with apple slaw, chipotle aioli on a ciabatta roll. Our service was attentive and perfect. We both enjoyed our meals and will return. Check their website because they have music some nights of the week.

I so really wanted to have a positive experience here. They added an outdoor patio seating area in the back which is great. It reminded me of places I visited in Key West. Why only 3 stars then? The service: I felt that Nate (I believe it is his name based on the receipt) really made a good effort. They were busy and seemed understaffed for the night. When we saw him he was quick and on his game. The person who was helping him though was aimless wonderer with no sense of direction or urgency. She dropped a drink that took her 10 minutes to slowly clean up. Then spent the night talking about being busy with a table of friends and when food/drinks came out she claimed she didn't know who they went to. The kitchen: two meals, one being a salad, took over 30 minutes to come out. We were starving and the salad was basically a 1/3 of chicken breast with 4-grape tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce. It did not justify the entree salad price of $11.

Had a Queslisa which was Chicken/Lime based. Very tasty. Pricing was quite reasonable and we ate on the patio. Quite peaceful and pleasant waiter and waitress

One of the nicest places for a great time. Excellent food....the service was awesome. The music was an added bonus. If I lived closer, I would be here all of the time. It feels like one of those cool out-of-the-way restaurants that you stumble upon in New Orleans. One of a kinda for sure. Try it! You will love it.

The Bellefonte Cafe hosted my 60th surprise BDay party last night, we had the place to ourselves. 50+ friends and family all enjoyed fantastic fresh food brought out all throughout the evening. Great, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, love this place. I highly recommend as a party place for birthdays and family get togethers. The food was so good we couldn't keep up with it so be sure to order a lot!! Thanks everyone for the wonderful night, I won't ever forget it!

This is a little hidden gem in a Little neighborhood Wilmington called Bellefonte witch lots of cute little shops and an alternative feel. The menu had lots of vegetarian options which is not always east to find. We had the stuffed avocado (with hummus) and beet salad. The homemade hummus was really good! I read from other reviews that the service was slow, but I found them to be really promt and attentive. I can't wait to go back.

Ok, strap in folks, this one's going to be tough for me. I went here once before in May 2013, and I don't remember much about what I had, but I do remember the wait being very long. This time around (Sunday, 06/15), the service was much faster, and our waitress, Elena was one of the most considerate, patient, and easy-going people I have ever encountered in the hospitality industry. No, I'm serious. The place was packed and hot and people were milling about everywhere, but she kept her head and made sure we were as comfortable as possible during our meal. So bravo to her...and because of her, Bellefonte Cafe gets another visit from me in the future. That being said... Bellefonte Cafe, I do this out of love. NEGATIVES: 1) Wandering patrons. Ok, yes, I get it. The restaurant is a house with nooks and crannies everywhere, and the overall atmosphere is very much of a "put your feet up and relax with good friends and food" feel, but it's still annoying when a group of people enter the place and search for a table, then find a table with a couple of half-empty glasses and discarded napkins and think it's about to be cleared, only to be told that a group of "regulars" is using that table and although they haven't been sitting there for over 20 minutes, they still have it. Um, wrong. When you sit down to eat in a dining establishment, you don't randomly get up for extended periods of time and roam aimlessly onto the porch or towards the bar and spend most of your "meal" chatting with the staff/other patrons and leave your refuse behind. Consideration? Is that a French word or something? 2) Asshole patrons. Now I shouldn't blame Bellefonte for this, but the clientele can really affect a person's experience in a restaurant. Case in point: when we were ushered into one of the rooms, we were initially split across two tables which were of uneven heights. My sister and I took the low table, while my boyfriend and brother-in-law took the high one. While we were making our way to said tables, Elena (God bless her) had to squeeze her way past a middle-aged woman who was standing directly in her path and talking a mile a minute to another table of people. The woman glanced up, frowned at my brother-in-law, and moved about an inch. I'm not kidding. He had to thrust his way past her. I was right behind him, and I noticed she started moving back to her original position, so I said, "Excuse me," and quickly nudged my way past her too...and I got a full-on stink-eye from her. Look lady, I don't know what your problem is, but if three people need to bump and squirm beyond you to get where they need to go, you might be considered an obstacle. Oh! I almost forgot, this woman was part of the group of people who abandoned their table for over 20 minutes. Remember this for later. 2a) Asshole patrons, Part II: Once were seated rather awkwardly in our too high/too low chairs, we started mulling over our menu options. About five minutes in, we heard a resounding BANG from the table next to us. We all jumped and I felt my chair shake. We turned around to see a rosy-cheeked, balding man grinning like an idiot and adjusting himself in his chair. Apparently, he lifted the glass table-top when he stood up and it dropped back down as soon as he sat down again. At no point did he apologize. He just sat there, squinting and smiling. He and his group left shortly after and Elena immediately cleared their table and moved us over so we could sit more easily. I heart you, Elena! 3) Live music by people who should not use amps in a cramped space. Do you really need huge amps in a room that's roughly 50 square feet? The sound was borderline deafening at times, and I felt bad having to scream my order to Elena, who also had to shout the specials to us. 4) People who should not sing along with live musicians, or any musicians, or should just not sing at all, ever. Remember that woman who glowered at us? The one who wasn't even sitting at her own damn table? Welp, she decided to sing along to "Hallelujah" and she dragged out poor Elena to sing along with her. Fortunately, Elena had a good singing voice and did not attempt to drown out the musicians. The rude woman's voice, however, was tinny and piercing, and the notes she screeched were well beyond the limits of human tolerance. After the song ended, she sat down, beaming proudly, while I carefully removed my fingers from my ears. I sincerely hope I never encounter this woman in a public setting again. POSITIVES: 1) The food. The nachos were excellent, and the refried beans were a perfect blend of savory and sweet. My smoked salmon bagel with capers and cream cheese was also very good, and the bagel was toasted just right. Everyone else enjoyed what they ordered, although my sister thought the bacon in her sandwich was a little thick. 2) The service. Again, Elena was on point and very sweet. She saved the day for me. Bellefonte, I'm giving you another chance. Don't fuck it up.

Enjoyed a quiet Sat lunch with the kids. They didn't like the lunch offerings but I did! Love the fresh juices (great selection of fruit, veggies, and had ginger too). Prepared ourselves for the "slow food" but service was not a long wait. Quaint atmosphere in an old house. Good if you want to kick back and relax. Interesting menu and look forward to returning for more.

I went back last week to give it another chance, ten months later. Unfortunately it is still pretty bad. One waitress was smacking her gum and blamed another waitress for writing the wrong table number on the ticket, shouting this over a table of people. Our food took an hour to receive, two sandwiches. The ingredients definitely taste like they are straight from Trader Joe's. I would recommend maybe getting a beer and sitting on the porch but DON'T sit inside, its so loud and chaotic. They are usually understaffed in terms of wait staff, thus forcing them to rush around and adding to the total chaos. This place could be really great. There is very little competition in the area. Unfortunately it seems the standards at this restaurant are so low as a result of the lack of competition. The thought of going back here actually makes me cringe.

Just had three tacos for nine dollars. Two fish tacos and one chicken Cobb taco. Both were fantastic. And what a great deal. Every Wednesday night is taco night. I got them take out so I really can't comment on the service that has been a problem in the past.

Great place to check out for their Sunday brunch. Me and my friends always go for Sunday Bloody Marys. They are the best around. The atmosphere and food is also amazing. The food takes awhile to get once you order it, but its worth it. Just don't go their hungry. There's nothing like hitting up the Bellefonte after a long weekend, and relaxing on their porch with a bloody mary, and great music and friends. If you haven't gone yet, go check it out. But don't because I want it to be my little secret because its so good ;)

Try their quesadillas- spinach with pine nuts. AMAZING. Would go back again for it. Service was a little slow... no, a lot slow. But it's a slow town and I don't think theyr'e used to New Yorkers coming in an expecting fast service, so it was fine. The quesadilla was worth it :)

This place is a gem. Cozy, funky, friendly and eclectic. The meals are cooked from fresh, local ingredients. Since the new owners took over, the service is snappy and the menu has expanded to include sushi (top-notch) and pulled pork tacos. Fine selections of wines, too.

Horrible! The food and service were almost bad beyond description...almost. First I sat for 15 minutes before I could order a drink. My Irish coffee took 25 minutes. Why? No whipped cream or mint or chocolate shavings or powder. It was a mug of coffee with (I guess) Irish whiskey and milk. We had reservations for a party of eight so they finally took our meal order. When the food finally arrived, half the orders were wrong and/or cold. They reheated my black bean burrito and it returned a white food on a white oval plate. No presentation value at all. Also, no avocado which I ordered at $2 extra. I could have had a far better burrito at Taco Bell. The wait staff never got some orders correct. I have never been served by a more dull and dim-witted wait staff. The sooner this food atrocity closes the better. I wouldn't walk across the street for a free meal from the Bellefonte Cafe, let alone venture to this dreary neighborhood. Save your money, your palette, and your sanity. Go anywhere else.

Been going here for years... not much of a "wanna be" hipster but have always enjoyed the atmosphere. I took a friend to dinner and he waited 1 hour for a salad (FOR A SALAD) and there was only one other table seated in the place..are you kidding me! The owners are very nice and I wish them the best in their future endeavors (I do believe the place will change owners before long). Now... the bartenders and wait staff. They think it's ice cream... aloof, rude, snotty, self important ... make you feel like they are doing you a favor by being there... be professional in our attitude, your demeanor and your attire. The entire world does not need to see your butt crack or any other part of your anatomy... it makes people uncomfortable (well, some people anyway) The best thing about this place is the atmosphere and the sometimes excellent musical performers.

Another delicious meal from Bellefonte. This time dining was TACO night with margarita specials. Choice is fish, chicken, BBQ pork, beef and VEGAN chorizo. My favs were vegan and fish. Yes the margarita too.

Gosh, I love this place.... Wilmington isn't known for its' healthy food options. So when I stumbled into this restaurant, I was thrilled beyond belief! It's so relaxing and feels like your dining at a friends house. I know a lot of people have complained about the food taking awhile to be made. Since everything is fresh made, of course it will take a little more time that's to be expected. But the food is fresh and very tasty.

Went to this cool cafe with my family tonight What a great atmosphere. Live music fills the rooms but not too loud. We were still able to enjoy our dinner and have good conversation. The musician was a young lady who played guitar and sang original songs. She seemed at home and relaxed with the people in the room and many of them even sang along. The food was original and a refreshing change from the local chains. It reminded me of flavors that I enjoy on our trips to Napa. We had a chance to meet the new ownerers. They were so down to earth and really seemed to enjoy having us stop by. It was almost like we came over their house for dinner. We will be back for sure!

Bellefonte Cafe is a little oasis of independent funk in Wilmington. This is a very good thing. Yep - service is slow, and meals are relatively small. If you're looking to strap on the feedbag for a quick gorge before a movie, this ain't your place. But if you're in the mood to slow down and feel like a guest in Donna's home, Bellefonte Cafe is a wonderful joint. The food is fresh and tasty, the atmosphere is delightfully quirky, and the menu is surprisingly varied (and vegan-friendly). Standouts include the quesadillas, which are simple and delicious (I'm a huge fan of the spinach, feta and pine nut offering), guac, and black bean soup, but everything is tasty. Tapas are delicious, and egg burritos are sizable and hit the spot on a chilly morning. The coffee is always tasty. Bellefonte Cafe also supports live music in the most friendly & democratic way possible: anyone can play here. All they gotta do is sign up - no demos required. While this might make for an interesting sonic evening (on more than one occasion, Donna has had to stop the music for the sake of the customers), it's a wonderful policy and damn near revolutionary for a restaurant/bar - and you just might discover a new favorite local artist on a random Friday night. To sum up: quirky service & servers, good homemade food, charming atmosphere. I often recommend Bellefonte Cafe to visitors looking for a funky independent place north of Newark.

I have really come to love this place. Its a tiny piece of real, non-mainstream charm that you do not find very often and most definitely not in conservative Delaware. The diverse people that you meet here are, at least from my experiences, down to earth and pretty chilled out. Food is delicious and worth the wait. Just plan accordingly to enjoy the atmosphere, cold drinks, bask in the good energy and the time between ordering and receiving your food will fly by. Donna can throw down a tasty meal as easily as she spins some body movin grooves. Im not much of a dancer, but shes even gotten me to get out of my seat and move my feet via some classic 80s to funky Hindustani style music. A charming lil spot to unwind your mind and sip on coffee, tea, or one of their funky fresh cocktails.

This place is what it is... Fresh and healthy dishes, prepared while you sit in atrociously painted rooms! Service is slow, slower and slowest, my wife and I know this but we continue to go back for the quirky environment because it is usually a nice place to sit and relax. A big negative is some of the crappy musicians the owner brings in! I'm all for experiencing an artistic expression, but some of what I've heard sounded like cats fighting in an alley, less patient people got up and left. I just move to the other room when this happens. my other knock is that the place at times takes itself way too seriously! If service was faster and the ambiance tweaked a bit I could give it 4 stars.

I'm really conflicted on how to rate this place. I LOVE the menu. I want to eat it everyday. I want the food to be delivered to my door. That being said .. I do NOT want to wait over an HOUR for a sandwich where the only thing cooked was the bread (and it was toasted). I do understand slow food. I DO! I just don't understand it when it is that s.l.o.w. I love cooking and could have made myself a nice veggie lasagna for only an extra 20 minutes. They told me how long it would be, I told them I would be back for it and got some exercise. It is a great place that is fun and funky. The staff is super nice, witty, and personable. I just...won't be back (I think). Unfortunately, Delaware is a little (lot) devoid of places like this. Their menu is so vegetarian-friendly that I want to love this place. Here is the sum of it I guess - If I had a group of friends with me, we weren't starving, wanted to listen to some music (sometimes they have music), chill out, then possibly in a couple hours eat.... I would go there. If I want lunch or dinner ... I will just make it myself. A couple more descriptions for the interested. It is more of a house than a restaurant. They have porch seating (although people are usually smoking out there). It is in a quiet neighborhood where you can park on the street. If you like antique shopping there are plenty places around there that you can peruse (maybe while waiting for your food...?).

I *LOVE* Donna and the Bellefonte Cafe! My family and I go there pretty frequently. In fact, one of the major selling points that caused us to buy our house was that it's only 2 blocks from the cafe. Yes, as some below have mentioned, it does take a while to get your food - but to be fair, it does say right on the menu that they are 'slow food', and if you're looking to run in and out quick, it's not the spot for you. The cafe recently had a pretty major renovation and increased the size of the place by a pretty great deal. It's great for live music, a bite to eat, or just to hang out with friends. The only gripe I have is that by the time I get home from work in Philadelphia, there's barely enough time to head up to the cafe - I can't blame them for that though. Even though she's a wizard of the kitchen, Donna still has to sleep sometimes! Here's some pictures of a meal at the cafe: thisiswhatimeating.com/2…

Growing up I always wondered about the food at this local cafe and I was pleasantly surprised, when I first tried it out, that the food here is delicious! Let me talk a little about the atmosphere. It has been recently renovated but has kept the same eclectic charm it has always had. The colors and decorations (as well as the food!) make this cafe adorable! I love going with a few close friends to enjoy time together and maybe even hear a local band. My favorite dish is the Granny Smith Apple Sandwich. I order this every time I go there, no lie. It is amazing. The whole wheat bread, cheddar cheese, sprouts, honey mustard and apple slices all together make for an explosion of flavor in my mouth. I rec'd this to anyone who wants to try Bellefonte Cafe. The chips and salsa are also amazing! Keep in mind the food is mostly to all organic so if you aren't into that you might not like it but they have a Cheese Quesadilla which my friend sticks to religiously. The service is a little slow but it is definitely worth the wait! The one menu item I don't care for are the French Sodas. They taste like water with syrup floating around in it and it left a sour taste in my mouth. That being said, you should definitely try this place out. I have a feeling you won't be disappointed!

The stars are more for the atmosphere and menu possibilities than the actual food and service. But thats the reason i go out to eat anyway. Like everyone else said, the food (sandwiches) took a loooooong time. Tasty though. Great quirky atmosphere inside including the clawfoot tub in the bathroom. We sat outside on the front porch, had pretty decent wine...while we waited, waited....a fabulous day and good conversation, so no problem here. Nice server but he could probably use a 5hour energy boost. Food was Cubano sandwich, bobotiser wrap and grilled cheese with avocado, bacon and tomato.- cubano was the tastiest of three. Might've seemed even tastier because by the time we got it, we were feeling the wine and hunger. Lots of vegetarian choices. Way tastier and healthier than most places for lunch. Will definitely try again :) Maybe i could order ahead~

Great atmosphere--cool colors on the walls, funky decor, quaint locale--but the disregard for timely service is terribly disrespectful to customers. When questioned, regulars will say, "Oh, but the food is all made to order." Uh, why? To wait half an hour for a drink and 90 minutes to two hours for a bowl of hummus and chips, is utterly unacceptable. Hire more cooks; hire more than one waiter to work each shift. It's a shame because the place has great potential--local bands play regularly and it draws a fun clientele. But if you plan to eat or drink while you're at the RESTAURANT, you could grow a beard while waiting. Not the way to run a business these days.

My two star rating for this place is an average of probably around 7-8 visits over the past 4 years to the Bfonte Cafe. When this place has got their proverbial shite together, I like it. But when they don't, it can be a bit of a train wreck. I have always found the food just OK here. Maybe I am ordering the wrong dishes, because I know loads of people that think this place is out of this world great. Very rarely have I had something that blew my socks off, but I've never had I had a dish that was God awful. Just Ho-Hum. As some of the other reviewers have stated, this place has mad potential, but doesn't live up to it, and I completely agree. I love the funky atmosphere, and music scene, so big props for that. A cold Dogfish Head and a good spot on the porch on a nice day, and this place is all I want. But..... I do have to talk about my last visit here which would be a 3 star review, but I've gotta knock it down to one star for one reason, and one reason only. The freaking bartender/server. Not only was this guy wasted drunk (which he openly admitted), he must have been higher than a kite. This guy's eyes were so squinty I don't know how he saw what he was doing. Now listen, I have no issue with a server who has had a drink or two, or a toke, but at least be able to do your job. The nonsensical blabbering from this dude was so irritating he literally ruined the meal for me, and my dining companions. He had a stupid comment for everything. This guy could very well be the most annoying person I have ever encountered in a restaurant. EVER. Despite my dealings with this burnout, my Thai Chicken sandwich was good with a nice amount of fresh ginger. I will no doubt return to the Bellefonte Cafe, but will hopefully time my visit in accordance with this guy's day off.

great atmosphere. the food is really good, but unfortunately, always takes a long time to get your food. really long. an hour and a half for a salmon wrap. and that's all. it's a small place too. it's not just one time. i've gotten baltimore slammer (which is amazing), but took nearly an hour. i still like hanging out here though. check out when they have music. good place for a drink to relax and socialize.

Ah...the Bellefonte Cafe. I used to live just around the corner from this place, and couldn't wait for it to open when I saw the "coming soon" sign. The memories fade, but I do remember a few things: It is a house, and it isn't too clear that you can't just sit on the porch and get service. Walk up the stairs to the side of the house and enter. Maybe she needs a big arrow? I have seen people come up, look for the entrance and leave baffled. They clearly don't need coffee like I do: I'd climb a three story ladder for it. So, traipse on in and get some coffee, some (warning: pork-containing) black bean soup, or whatever the sandwich special is. The guacamole is a little bit o' heaven. It is light. Some of my friends hesitated to come here because they didn't have a big, meaty anchor entree like Beef Wellington or something. Whatever. It's a coffee shop. Your mileage may vary. They may be swamped. If they are not, it is really interesting to talk to Donna. If they are (and it is drought or flood), realize that the next funky, non-chain place is probably 20 miles away and you should be happy they are even open in the 302. It is a great place to meet people in the neighborhood. Then you feel connected. Things happen. Your life in Delaware starts to suck a tiny bit less. You might check hours because they change with the season and with school being in or out.

Stopping by the Bellefonte Cafe is like swinging by your friend's house for a quick nosh and a cup of coffee. This is a good thing. Donna runs the show, makes a mean black bean soup and the coffee's always on. At night they have live local music, and they're also part of the Art Loop. The food is VERY fresh, funky and lovingly prepared... got a bit of the California twist to it. The service is INTENTIONALLY slow-- only two cooks-- this is by design. Why rush when you can sit on the porch on a beautiful summer evening, or snuggle in at a table listening to great music? Chill out and relax, folks. This isn't Applebee's. Amazing vibe, great people, very reasonable prices; also: adult beverages! Stay a while, or stop in for a quick coffee to go. It's all good. They also have dance parties every second Saturday of the month, where Donna spins some amazing music. Seriously-- this place has it all. It might look like a house on the outside, but inside there is magic.

This place probably has the coolest atmosphere of any restaurant that I have been to in Wilmington (and, living there my whole life, that's quite a few). I'm not too crazy about the food-- I'm more of a Taco Bell girl-- but my mom LOVES it, so I figure people who like that type of hippie/vegetarian food will love it, too. They have live music a lot, and the decor is crazy cool. Definitely worth a visit, even just to get coffee.

Love the bellefonte cafe! I love going to listen to the live music that happens every once and awhile from the local artists. The food is fun and pretty good. I just recently went there and I would have to say its my new hang out spot for a little food and good spirits.

Fabulous Sunday Brunch experience. It was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised. We weren't sure what to expect with this modest house and funky decor. We were warmly greeted and seated before opening. Our server brought us absolutely delicious mimosas, different colors of orange since they were made with different varieties of oranges. We all ordered huevos rancheros, since the egg offerings are extremely limited on what is basically a lunch menu. Everything served is of the highest quality - steaming rich lattes, crisp honey smoked bacon, scrumptious corn muffins. All of this was lovely although the real treat was the live band. They had the whole place rocking with their fiddler, bass, guitar/vocalist, and harmonica player. Can't wait to return for more of the same in a couple of weeks. Only possible shortcoming would be lack of true brunch offerings. Would like more of an egg or quiche selection. Otherwise this place is pretty darn perfect in my book.

LOVE this place! Cool atmosphere and a little off the path. The service did take a little while longer than most places but still a cool place if you're not in a hurry.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
