For delaware, this place is decent! Interior is quite boring and dated, but the food was enjoyable when an indian food craving hits. Papad and sides came out promptly upon being seated, the red onions were on the spicy side (plus points!) For entrees we ordered paneer bhurji, chicken makhani, garlic naan, and butter naan. The naans were perfectly cooked. We asked for paneer bhurji and chicken makhani to be indian spicy, but it came out lacking any heat. Even with the heat missing the food tasted pretty good, i would still prefer the added spice. Will surely return.

great food, long wait. the food was fantastic--best Indian we've had since we've moved to Delaware. Chicken korma and curry, with super excellent appetizers. service was good, restaurant was small and unassuming. only downside was long wait for the entrees--about 45 mins. we don't know if this is average or not. wasn't a problem with just 2 adults, but may be difficult to manage with children. looking forward to next date night or take-out!

It is by far the best indian restaurant in the Newark/Wilm area in DE. I am not a regular indian food eater despite being born and raised in india lol .. but i am very picky about indian food. This place, like one of the reviewer pointed out has flavors for each and every curry (subzi) ... unlike most of the places they just make one curry and pour it over everything. Paneer Bhurzi is hands down AMAZINGGGG!!!

We got take out from here last Saturday and were very impressed. Friends of ours said this was their favorite Indian restaurant in the area. We had the chicken pakora and vegetable samosa. Both were good, although the pakora were a little dry. We also had an order of garlic nan and this was excellent. It had just the right amount of seasoning and was very soft. For our entrees we had the chicken curry, chicken korma, chicken saagwala, and the Shikh kabab. The Korma was the best of the lot. The sauce was creamy and had a perfect blend of spices. The curry was also just right, not too heavy. All of that food came to only $61, which is half of what we would spend at other local dine in Indian restaurants. I would highly recommend trying the food here. I would say that take out may be your best option. The inside is very small, and didn't really seem ideal to dine in, especially for dinner.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant I found in Newark/ Wilmington area. The place looks pretty average and is located in a dilapidated strip mall but the food is really great. All dishes have a distinct flavor unlike other restaurants were everything tastes similar. Paneer Masala is awesome.

Best Indian restaurant I've eaten in. People say its better than some restaurants in India. 4 adults and 2 toddlers are for 70$ including tip, and we took leftovers home. The place is not fancy, and its empty most of the time, but the constant stream of people coming in to pick up their take away orders, gives you an idea of how good it is.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in Northern Delaware. The food is good and the service is great. However, the place itself is a little odd in decor and location. Overall, you get a great value for your money. I have never left here unhappy,.

Star of India introduced me to Indian food and I ate at the location in Newark many times. The chicken tikki masala is hands down, the best I've had anywhere. The chicken is practically all white meat and is the most tender chicken of any Indian place I've dined in. The flavor of the sauce is so good, and the peppers and onions compliment it well. Another favorite dish is the mattar paneer, so good. I've never had bad food there. I would love to give Star of India 5 stars, but I can't because the ambiance isn't the greatest. It was a weird restaurant aesthetically when it was located on Elkton Rd., and its recent move just repeated the same odd decor and lack of ambiance. PLUS, there's no lunch buffet, which is the saddest part about the move. If there was a buffet, my coworkers and I would probably go every two weeks or so. Bring it back!

D E L I C I O U S I have no idea what that last dude was talking about. We had a great dinner tonight, and nothing needed a touch of ANYTHING, especially salt. However - you don't go here for the ambiance. Food was great and not expensive. It was a hole-in-the-wall, yes but the restaurant wasn't HORRIBLE. Just not fancy schmancy like Palace of Asia. It's....basic. (Although I was warned that the restroom wasn't too nice.) Chicken Tikka Masala - best we've ever had anywhere. Not too creamy, but still nice flavor. Chicken wasn't all dark meat, mostly white meat which I prefer. Had nice amount of onion and peppers too - fantastic. Saag Paneer - Spinach and Cheese - also fantastic. My friend commented "I could eat this all day and nothing else." and I totally agreed - and I don't usually like spinach dishes. Tandoori Grille Sampler - very well seasoned and yogurty, and moist. Awesome. Lamb Vindaloo - tomatoy and hearty and super good with nice soft potatoes. I friggin loved this place. Just pee before you go. :(

Wow. Went last night and it was a decidedly mixed experience. I should preface my comment by adding that I'm a Brit and in common with many of my kind Indian food is a staple. I have personally been eating it regularly for over four decades and I've had very good, very bad, and a lot in between. My standard test dish is Rogan Josh which is a Kashmiri staple that was long ago adopted by the UK and spread to the west from there. There are a couple of basic variations (Hindu vs Muslim recipes) plus quite a lot of western recipes also add tomato which further deepens its distinctive red color. I've eaten all of these many times on three continents. Like many US establishments this place adulterates their recipes a lot. Most Indian dishes have a 'natural' level of spicing based on the peppers used in the region of origin. These guys will do mild, medium or hot for any dish which is complete BS and they even defend it with a straight face rather than acknowledging it is just an adaptation to local custom & practice. But far, far worse what they served me wasn't even close to Rogan Josh... it was a Lamb Korma. Now I also like Korma (a delicious Afghan dish) but it doesn't look, smell or taste even close to Rogan Josh. When challenged on this they lied to my face trying to imply I didn't know what I was talking about. Here's my problem They served a dish I did not order and then lied to my face! But what I had was a good example, for the US, of what it was. What I had was a Tandoori appetizer, pulao rice, the misnamed Lamb Korma and a paratha (a bread). So good food but no idea what their capabilities really are because of the bald-faced lies. I have to figure service into the mix on any review and that brings the rating WAY down. What you actually get will probably be good but caveat emptor on being given what you order. Their lying was so casual I have to conclude it is normal practice here and they just hope most customers don't know any better! A shame. If they stopped the BS they would rival The Indian Sizzler in Newark for best in the area...but there's no way I can overlook the lying! I will NOT be returning.

A serviceable Indian restaurant. I suspect that their "lamb" dishes are actually beef. But it's tasty although a lot of the dishes taste similar to each other. Decent heat in spicy dishes. Nice family run restaurant.

I'm not comfortable ordering takeout from this place anymore. It's a shame because their food is outstanding. Unfortunately, I found something (that wasn't food) in my lamb korma twice. The first time, I found some sort of sticker (the kind you find on fruits and vegetables in grocery stores) in my korma. The second time I ordered takeout, I found a strip of plastic in it. This happened on November 29th. I haven't ordered takeout again since then.

I have no idea why the owners daughter keep writing the good reviews instead of improving the rude customer service like typical desi greedy restaurant. Anyone wants to experience sticky dirty tables and floors can visit.

Would have given 5 stars but they were out of the pickled onion chutney that comes with the papdam. Other than that, the food was/is always great. This time we shared the following: Malai Kofta, Saag paneer, aloo matar, and chicken saag. Also got sides of the papadam, dal, and naan. It was excellent... but again, they need to make sure they make enough pickled onion chutney for their papadam. This is the 4th time in a row they have had none left.

The chaat papri was good as were the chutnies. We tried the chicken biryani and it was horrible. Just full of Garam Masala which was overwhelming. No balance with the spices used. Chicken was boneless pieces sprinkled in the rice - not cooked together with the rice which is how authentic biryani is made. The worst part - I got sick after eating here. So definitely not going back.

On the recommendation of a friend, our party of 4 decided to try this hole-in-the-wall restaurant last night. To say the least, it was a big disappointment. The first disappointment was I wanted to sit at the round table that sat 6. The host said, "That table seats 6, you sit here at this table." Which also sat 6. Ridiculous. Moreover, they never had a party come in "large" enough to sit at that round table. On to the food... Everything from the samosas to the garlic naan to 3 out of 4 of our entrees needed salt -- not a ton of salt, but enough that it was just annoying because we were constantly having to reach for it. However, much to our surprise, the appetizer sampler was decent. The chicken tikka wasn't dried out as it is at many restaurants. It needed just a touch of salt, but it was good. The seekh kebab was decent, but I think a little more spice would've put it where I really like it plus just a tad more salt. The 2 shrimp were OK too. I will say, however, that the grilled onions they served with it were absolutely superb. Not overly cooked with just enough bite and a wonderful flavor. One in our party was an Indian food virgin, so we suggested what 2 of us were getting: Chicken Makhani. Another disappointment. It seemed as tho there was a flavor component missing. It did need just a touch of salt, but not enough that we felt we needed to add salt like the other food. The newbie and I ordered it medium spicy, and the third ordered spicy. Our friend who loves spicy REALLY had some spice. She enjoyed it, but it was the spiciest she's ever had "spicy" from an Indian restaurant -- not a complaint in her book. The medium was good too. There was quite a bit of heat to the dish, but not so much that I was rushing for the raita. The level of heat all around was good. The fourth in our party order the Lamb Roti Kebab. He was pleased with the dish, and I had to take a bite since he was pleased. It was decent. I think the flavor components were there, and I was fine with the salt level -- of course, lamb altogether adds another level to the dish. Anyway, the majority of us agree that we won't be returning to this restaurant. It just isn't worth it. Indian Palace a couple miles away on N. Maryland Ave is SOOOO much better with comparable prices -- and I mean SOOOOO much better.
