I took a sample of the cake back to the shop. The owner was not in, but contacted me later to say a credit had been issued to my credit card. He said a mistake had been made when making the batter. He was very apologetic. I'm glad that the mistake didn't happen to someone's wedding cake.

Very small and very overpriced cupcakes. Seriously, $2.95 for a cupcake smaller than what you would get at a grocery store, and almost on-par with what you would expect from the grocery store. Shop looks kinda depressing. The lightening gives it an almost grey-ish tint, just a drab vibe to the place. The gentleman working there was sweet however. But still it is not enough to get repeat business from me.

The cupcakes are fine. Small, but tasty. What bothers me about this place is the ambiance. The decor is outdated and the overall cleanliness really bothers me. The cases need a good cleaning, along with the coffee bean jars and the rest of the place. Change out the blurry photos too. I hate to be negative. I know it's a small business. I think if they updated the look and overall feel of the place they would do better.

NOPE.NOPE.NOPE.NOPE. This looks like a thrown together dumping ground for random "bakers" to drop their thrown together "cupcakes" inside. The decor is drab, dark, and has a combination of used rental bakery cases, and grandmother-like chairs. THE CUPCAKES: I consider myself somewhat of a cupcake connoisseur. When I die, I want to be buried next to a bakery. My sweet tooth could put your sweet tooth to shame. So I think it's best you take my advice. DO NOT, under any circumstances, buy a cupcake from this shop. You would be better off buying one from the supermarket in the same strip mall. The cakes are dry, uninspired, and overpriced. Some of them aren't even formed into the shape of a cupcake! It's like they got tired and just started throwing batter in the oven. PASS! Sorry for the negativity, but the cupcakes are horrible.

This was more like Cupcake Earth than cupcake heaven. I did not see or taste any thing heavenly about these cupcakes. The icing was good, the cake was ok, and the cream in the Boston cream was fine. However, there was nothing exceptional. The ratios of icing to cake to cream is wrong. There is way too much icing for the amount of cake and way too little cream that you can almost miss it unless you are looking for it. I think they put this huge blob of icing, almost the size if not larger than the cupcake to compensate for the overall smallness and the $2.50 per cupcake price. Won't be retuning because I don't think there is that much value to this product

Sorry to say this but this place should be call cupcake graveyard instead. It has that feel. The person selling the cupcakes was squeezing and throwing away a bunch of them when I was there. Doesn't that sound appetizing? :-)

Stopped in looking to just get one cupcake around 7 PM on a Friday and we walked out with a half dozen. Boyfriend and I each tried one that night -- the cakes were moist and tasty! Boyfriend's rated the raspberry filling in his delicious, but the frosting had a weird fake syrupy flavor and texture. Same on the frosting of the strawberry champagne cake he tried the next day -- that one had dried out and ended in the trash. Standard vanilla on chocolate held up well! I had the chocolate covered pretzel -- cake and icing tasted good, though the pretzels were getting a little bit stale. Red velvet and vanilla on vanilla were ok! All in all, I'd advise to stay away from the fruit icings, but the basics and standards are all pretty good!

Good god what happened to this place? They used to have awesome cupcakes. That was a couple of years ago. I went a couple of days ago and the cupcakes were so very dry and they are smaller than they used to be. I got a toffee cupcake that had purple sugar on it from other cupcakes. It was a hot sloppy mess. I will not be going back here again. I'm so very disappointed.

Not the best cupcakes I've had but not the worst either. Nothing too special about them. I bought the red velvet and pumpkin cupcakes. The cashier seemed impatient with me and eager to get me out of the store, as she quickly walked off into the backroom once I paid.

Tried this place a couple times hoping to like it. The cupcakes just aren't good. Service and variety are awesome. But when it comes down to it, I'll have to go elsewhere.

I had a very bad experience here today. I went in to purchase a half dozen cupcakes for a friend. I asked the cashier the price and she put on gloves to take my order. However a second later another customer came in, and the cashier proceeded to take off her gloves to assist that customer. I was in shock and disbelief! The cashier did not say anything to me as she rushed to assist this other patron. I left and will never return to this business again!!!

I have to say that I was disappointed by their cakes. They were stale and tasted artificial. I honestly had better hopes for the place not to mention they are quite expensive. I also did not enjoy the decorations. The shop looks old and outdated. I would not recommend this place. You would be better off going to the supermarket for cupcakes. I wish them the best of luck however.

Dreadful. I got two cupcakes this afternoon. The carrot cake cupcake was dry and the red velvet cupcake tasted like corn bread and left grease all over my hands. Both were thrown away. Save your money and make your own, overpriced and gross.

I discovered this wonderful little shop recently, when I was looking for cupcakes to give as favors for my husband's office Christmas party. They provided a wildly adorable selection of decorated cupcakes - Rudolph, Santa, Christmas tree, snowflake etc - each in a box with a window on top for display. My husband's co-workers were delighted, and the next day we heard from everyone how delicious they were! (While in the shop, I sampled the salted caramel and the red velvet, and ohhhh my they were amazing!!) Flash forward a week, and I had forgotten to order my daughter's birthday cake! I needed a cake on a few hours' notice, and again they came through beautifully. They made the cake to order - vanilla with raspberry filling, and it had gorgeous purple flowers on top, just what my daughter dreamed of. But here's the best part - I also bought some plain cupcakes for my daughter and her friends to decorate, along with a tub of icing. The owner asked if they'd like to pipe on the icing - and he gave me pastry bags and tips, free of charge! So...delicious cakes and cupcakes, attentive service, and oh yes, very reasonable prices. What's not to like? I'd recommend this place to anyone!

My previous review of this local little cupcake cafe was four stars; I'm sorry to say I can't recommend it that highly anymore. I'm giving it three, but only because SOMETIMES you can possibly get fresh cupcakes. I'm not sure what keeps customers coming back to Cupcake Heaven, but I don't think it's the consistent quality of mouth watering cupcakes. The last few times I've been, the cupcakes are semi-stale. The bakery specializes in cupcakes but also advertises decorated cakes. While I can't speak for the cakes, the cupcakes are routinely stiff and taste as though they've been in a cooler for several days. A giant glob of lard frosting sits on top, also typically stale tasting in my recent experience. Most of the icings on the cupcakes taste the same though their colors are based on the 'flavor' of the cake. On my most recent visit, a cupcake stating it was "caramel filled" was so stale, it broke to pieces when I handled it with what looked to be a watery caramel sauce soaking the bottom of the cupcake which stuck to the paper wrapper. The glob of frosting was just as unappealing and inedible. Okay, maybe I just got another bad one.. So I tried the red velvet cupcake with the same experience. What looks to be a cream cheese type of frosting tasted like the same old over sweetened Crisco-style icing with a tiny red, stale cupcake underneath. Quite sad. This little shop seemed to be doing so well for a while. It's apparent the lack of business is leading to the shop owner keeping old cupcakes in the cooler to sell before baking new ones. This isn't how a good, professional bakery or food shop should operate in my opinion. If you're looking for cupcakes in the area, you're better off finding a bakery in Little Italy, or even a local supermarket because Cupcake Heaven has gone to hell.

I purchased cupcakes from Cupcake Heaven on two occasions. After the first time, I just thought I got a bad batch due to hype surrounding this place. After the second purchase, I knew that these cupcakes do not live up to their reputation as gourmet cupcakes. Both times I bought cupcakes, the product was not fresh. I got one or two cupcakes that were actually pretty challenging to choke down, which is quite a feat for cupcakes! The cake was dry and gritty and the icing had formed a hard crust. I could have easily made better cupcakes in my own kitchen from a box mix! They claim to bake their product fresh daily, but I find that hard to believe. Before visiting Cupcake Heaven, I heard a lot about their icing, which claims to be so good that people take "icing shots" of it. I've tasted much better buttercream. Theirs is too sickeningly sweet for my tastes. As for the flavors... IMO it doesn't matter what kind of kooky flavors you come up with if you don't have a good cake and icing to build off of! I was really disappointed by Cupcake Heaven. Despite all of the raving I've heard, this place just doesn't do it for me.

This is a terrific place. Driving by you would never know it, but the cupcakes are unique and delicious and the staff is awesome. Additionally, they sell gourmet coffee beans that are among the best we have ever had. We go out of our way to buy our fresh coffee beans there - the Jamaican Me Crazy is amazing, and the Red Velvet is also tremendous. Really good cupcakes, amazing coffee. They have sandwiches and paninis as well, but those I have never had.

I met the owner of Cupcake Heaven at a benefit for Children and Families First in November. This gent was so genuinely enthusiastic about his business and his cupcakes; you could tell he wasn't in it just for the money; cupcakes are his passion, and he does 'em up right. He had many samples for people to try (there was a cake decorating competition and his cupcakes were an entry), and these were out of this world beautiful *and* delicious. These cupcakes were individually decorated with such care and detail. They were simple cupcakes, and each one had a fondant face on it, on top of the regular (fantastic) icing. I'm not a fan of fondant, and many people assumed the fondant was blecchy so they picked off the fondant faces and left them on their plates. But I gave it a try, and WHOA, their fondant is not just edible, but darn tasty! I talked to the owner about it, and he said that he's been working on his fondant recipe for years and finally feels like he got it right. Like Doug F. mentioned, their website could use a makeover, and the photos on their site don't do their cupcakes justice. Trust me when I tell you that you will be thrilled out of your little gourd to eat these puppies. Support your local businesses, people; it does a body good.

Cupcake Heaven has my tied-for-first place favorite gluten-free cupcakes! Unlike some other allergy-specific bakeries, GF is not the main focus of the bakery and they do use butter/eggs so it's a lot easier for the finished products to taste good. But they are goooood. I first tried them at a celiac event where the owner had very nicely donated a tray, and was absolutely blown away. The cake was moist, smooth, and delicious - really rare for gluten-free baked goods. I was told that the owner is aware of cross-contamination issues but you can make your own decision about that risk. Apparently they bake the GF cupcakes once a week so they're kept in a freezer case unless you order them in advance. I stopped by recently and the texture of my cupcake (chocolate with vanilla icing) was gummy and sticky - and I really disliked the icing, texture and taste-wise. I'm not sure if that was a result of being frozen. But my first cupcake (vanilla with vanilla icing, not frozen) was near perfection. I'm not sure what's going on but clearly more investigation is warranted. Also, $2.50 for a gluten-free cupcake is pretty reasonable. Other cupcake places charge more than that for a regular cupcake, so that's fair, I think. I'm not sure why they got a $$$ rating.

The store is in need of a makeover and the painfully amateurish website looks like it was designed when boy bands ruled the airwaves. However, the cupcakes are divine and that's what makes me come back to Cupcake Heaven time and time again. You can find your standard vanilla and chocolate cupcakes here for sure, but there's no shortage of more exotic offerings such as key lime cream or mint chocolate chip cupcakes. Cupcake Heaven boasts over 60 cupcake varieties on its website. I have only sampled a small fraction of the offerings and have yet to be disappointed. Of course, everyone is bound to have his/her favorite. Mine is the red velvet - nice and moist and just sweet enough with a cream cheese frosting that serves as the perfect complement to the cake. As curious as I am about the other cupcakes, I always have to get at least one red velvet. Cupcake Heaven cupcakes taste like they're homemade, and in my opinion that's the highest praise you can give a cupcake shop. They aren't cheap ($2.50 for 1 cupcake), but well worth the occasional indulgence. It's easy to give in to temptation with Cupcake Heaven around.

These cupcakes are awesome! My family got them for dessert for Easter dinner and they definitely did not disappoint. They best part is they have more interesting flavors than other cupcake bakeries that are in our area. For example, we got a kit-kat one (which was AMAZING because kit-kats are my absolute favorite type of chocolate/candy), an oreo one, a root beer float one (which was my second favorite after the kit-kat), and a peanut butter cup one. The garnishes were really cute as well, and that's always something that people look for in a good cupcake bakery. Everything was really creative and delicious and you can tell that the bakers really are passionate about it. It was really nice that they didn't pile on the icing so it's more than the actual cake part as well. I'm not really a huge fan of icing, but I like it as a complement with cake, and this place puts the perfect amount right on top. Though it's a little further than other cupcake shops near my house, I would go here to grab a sweet treat again.

Seems like they spend too much time working on combinations and not enough time making sure that the cupcakes are fresh/moist. I keep going back because there aren't other cupcake places in Wilmington but always leave disappointed. The drive to Sweet and Sassy (Newark) is seeming more and more appealing. Also, why does the buttercream icing taste salty?

I stumbled across this local cupcake shoppe after searching cupcakes on Google local. I was surprised I was unfamiliar with it, since I love cupcakes and especially because I work nearby. It's tucked into the Fairfax shopping center on 202 by 95, right next to Happy Harry's. They had a nice selection of normal sized cupcakes, ranging from simple (vanilla or chocolate cake with vanilla or chocolate icing), to fancier (Cookies and cream, Black Forrest, strawberry shortcake ). I opted for the half dozen for $13 deal, and selected a vanilla with vanilla, chocolate with vanilla, Boston cream, Reeses (peanut butter cup), red velvet and french toast. I found the cupcakes to be a bitty too moist, not in an undercooked way, but perhaps they had just been sitting out too long (I went at 7pm). The red velvet was ok, the cream cheese frosting wasn't well blended and had a chunk of cream cheese in it. For the vanilla/vanilla, the cake was ok and the icing was very good. It wasn't too sweet, and I couldn't tell if it was made with powdered sugar or not (which is good to me, I don't like generic shortening/powdered sugar icings). Same for the chocolate/vanilla, i think it was a different icing though, but still as good. The peanut butter frosting of the Reeses cupcake was by far the best though. It was incredibly light and fluffy, I probably could have just eaten that with a spoon. The cake was good and complemented the icing nicely. I liked how in addition to the peanut butter cup on top of the cupcake, there was also one under the frosting. Nice surprise! I wasn't sure what to expect for the french toast cupcake. The icing was a consistency different from the others, it was thicker and had a light maple taste. It reminded me of breakfast though, it was good. Lastly, the Boston Cream cupcake, which was vanilla cake, chocolate frosting and pudding inside, was good too, but my favorite by far was the peanut butter cup. In summary, I think the place is great for homemade cupcakes, I would stop here if I was in the mood for one and didn't want to make it. However, I wouldn't consider them to be "special occasion cupcakes", which I think is how they are priced. All in all though, a tasty snack.
