This place has good food and a clean, comfortable atmosphere, derseving of four stars. The fifth star is for their enthusiastic love of dogs! We were in town for a few weeks and came back again and again simply because they let us be there with our dog.

The catering basis of this establishment is apparent in the high quality of service and food provided at their walk-in and take-out facility. Numerous comfortable public dining areas are distributed about a converted residence located in the center of the upscale small community of Centerville, DE. These include several nice outdoors garden seating areas too. Parking is available both on and off the main thru highway. My spouse and I especially enjoyed a leisurely late-luncheon meal of shared "Petunia Salad", "Petunia Sandwich", bottled beverages from a glass-door cooler, and a gluten-free brownie selected from a significant variety of fresh baked goods. Delicious! Total cost ~$30. The place also seems to be a popular "coffee-house" meeting place, and a stop for refreshment and a few minutes with a device (power and WiFi available).

It says something if you can go to a restaurant and take inspiration from the menu home with you, to your own kitchen. I feel like I gleaned a little finesse just from reading the menu and tasting my food. THAT says a lot. Centreville Cafe/Montrachet Fine Foods is a fun little cafe, with charming atmosphere. The fine foods store is in back. I was excited to go through it thoroughly, but I have to admit, the eagerness of the girl behind the counter made me shy away. She asked to help so many times I was dissuaded from putting forth the energy to deal with her. I was also a little daunted by all that they offer, which seemed to be mostly chef-prepared refrigerated foods. If I lived closer, I'd be thrilled to run out and grab whatever on a moment's notice, but though we live close enough to make it home with refrigerated stuff, we were down there for Nemours and could not let it sit in the car forever. I'd have to make a planned trip to go directly home next time. I guess I just thought there would be more in the way of imported oils, olives, spices, etc., which I could leave in the car. We did dine there, and the food was subtly gourmet, which I mean in a fantastically complimentary way. In other words, it was gourmet, but not beating you over the head with pomp and pretense like so many trendy stupid places nearby. I had a brie, ham, and pineapple sandwich with a homemade bbq sauce that was very memorable. My husband enjoyed his as well. The tiny stretch of Centreville frontage on 52 makes a point of having a country gentry look about it, which is fun to visit. The building that houses the cafe is older, and they have several rooms dedicated to dining, along with various places outdoors on a porch and patios, which was a nice touch. My one gripe was getting a bit of an attitude. While the staff in the shop/kitchen was almost overly friendly, a different young female employee gave me a dirty look as she headed past us on her way upstairs. I was sitting down with my husband to eat, what did I ever do to her? And the clientele in the cafe when we visited, was pretty obnoxious (a pair of local realtors somewhat grotesquely discussing the sale of someone's home). I would try this place again, hoping that the attitudes were a fluke, and not a standard thing. But if it happened again, they'd lose my business simply for the churning of my stomach that goes with people like that.

The 4 stars are for the bakery items. They have quickbreads (coconut and pumpkin were the choices today), brownies, blondies, lemon bars, mint bars, salted caramel bars, lemon bars... Since I love me some bar-I took a sampling to go and have tried the peanut butter and caramel so far- and yum they are worth the calories! I like that they also had homemade dog cupcakes for sale. Lots of salads, quiches and a large sandwich board with some interesting choices. Very friendly and helpful service. (though at a cafe you would hope you could get any one in the range of espresso drinks on demand-here you will have receive a surprised yet smiling face waiting for further detail upon the word 'cortado'). I ended up trying a latte. Eh. I'll definitely go back for a bar or salad and tea for sure. Very cute space. Nice people.

This upscale coffee shop is the home base for Montrachet Fine Foods and catering. A cozy little place to have enjoy baked items, coffees and tea. Breakfast pastries, sandwiches, and salads, are ordered at the counter, and served to you in the parlor. Everything including the salads, and croissants are home made. Nestled among quaint shops, and antique stores, this is a nice place to have a light breakfast, or lunch before visiting Winterthur.
