The pizza here is amazing. Ciao pizza across the street taste like junky papa johns comparatively. I have never had anything else, "but if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Although, my family commented it tasted a little salty. I didn't notice it, but I usually use a lot of salt. I would have given 5 stars but they overcharge on toppings. $2 a pop is gouging your customer after they ordered one topping already. We had 4 so the pizza was $12 and charged $8 for toppings on top of that. That's a poor way to do things.

They at least put in a little more effort than Ciao...the pizza is below average (that seems the norm for Wilmington) but they look like they try and care. I have a tough time discerning what is holding the pizza back from being good or great, but I'm leaning towards the sauce. It's sweet, but I think it may be blandness rather than sweetness that is the issue (maybe it's too thin too, though that would make too sweet an odd thing to be). It has potential, but hasn't delivered. Like Sam Bradford. Outside of pizza I've had some good and some so-so, but haven't been in about a year. Nothing about the experience or food has been terrible in my experience. The staff has always been friendly. The food always prepped well.

Had dinner at Cafe Verdi last night, with my husband and granddaughter. I ordered the chicken piccata and my husband ordered the chicken caprese. Both entrees were amazing. My granddaughter ordered a piece of pizza and ate the whole thing, which is rare for her. We also had the mussels as an appetizer. They were delicious as well. Very friendly atmosphere and our waiter was great. Will definitely go there again!

Very disappointed with my dining experience at this establishment. I ordered Shrimp stuffed ravioli which they later said they only had 3 ravioli left so they substituted with regular cheese ravioli but kept the price the same. Their tomato sauce was very bland and bitter. While it was nice to have a glass of wine with my Italian meal, the cost was insane, $8 a glass and the glasses were tiny! The service was average. Not impressed and will not be heading back again!!

My boyfriend and I have lived in trolley square for about three months now and tend to stick to the same restaurants. We went out the other night planning on El Diablo and decided to try this cute little Italian restaurant. We are so glad we did! First off, the waiter was awesome, so friendly and on top of it. He told us the history of the restaurant and gave us some good suggestions. The food was some of the best Italian food I have had in a long time. You can tell everything is made fresh. The bread was delicious and a new recipe the owner received from his brother who lives in Sicily. We started off with the prosciutto wrapped Shrimp with a yummy sauce. I ordered the Penne Alla Vodka and my boyfriend ordered the traditional spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce in both dishes was excellent! The portions were a decent size with plenty of leftovers for my lunch the next day. Finally, the cannoli was the best I have ever had! My boyfriend has been to Italy and said it was just as awesome as the ones he tasted there. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious Italian meal for a good price. The special he night we went was order two entrees and get any appetizer for free! Check this place out!

Always good pizza. Lots of options. Staff is always friendly. I get the chicken Caesar salad every time and it's always fantastic. Good food, fast, and fairly priced.

Not impressed... Not even good for the money.

We were the only people in the restaurant for lunch and the staff couldn't appear less interested in us.

Moved to Delaware from Alabama. I'm sure there are other really good Italian places in the region but in Wilmington, Verdi is by far my favorite for Italian, pizza and food in general. I've had better panini elsewhere, but there's other choices on their menu. They're good for a quick lunch stop or for a casual but good dinner.

This place needs an intervention. Veal parm was inedible...spoiled...would likely have caused illness if consumed. Eat there at your own risk. Maybe one star is generous.

I REALLY want to love Cafe Verdi but past three take out orders have been passable if nothing else. I usually get the same dish, Baked Gnocchi, and it has been different the past three times and the portion is getting smaller too. Just WAY too much cheese in top & the order is lukewarm by the time I get it home( I like less than a block away) today's order had no bread included & was so nasty I threw it away after trying just a few bites :-(

This used to be a great place. When I moved to Forty Acres years ago, I was thrilled to have great Italian food so close to me. The veal, the gnocci, everything was out of this world. Now the food is not that good. Pizza has declined in quality over the last couple years. Calamari is always soggy. The pasta and sauces are just so-so. Now for the reason I will NEVER return. I placed a phone order. I was told twenty minutes. I went to pick it up and got there 25 minutes after my call. I had to wait another 15 minutes. The restaurant was not that busy. The man who rung me up and barely spoke English hovered over me while I signed my slip, to the point that I was uncomfortable. When he saw the tip line had a zero on it, he huffed very loudly and gave me a dirty look like he wanted to fight or something. If I was classless like him, I might have been upset and lost sleep over it. But knowing I will never, ever return to this horrible place actually just made it quite funny. And when I got my food home, it was again just bland and boring. I do not recommend this place at all anymore. A year ago, I might have. Two years ago I always did. Now I recommend you avoid the average food and horrible, horrible service and lack of basic human manners and respect at all cost.

My son and I love the pizza, it does not stand up to pizza in New Haven,CT. But it's the best we've had in Delaware. We've had pizza in NYC, New Haven, Augusta, ME, LA, ATL, Chicago and numerous other locations.

Wildly inconsistent to the point of frustration. Verdi is a restaurant that I want to love. It's a local joint within walking distance and the only true Italian place in Trolley Square. We've been regulars over years but recently...ugh. I'm just fed up with it. You can order the same dish three times and have three completely different experiences. Sometimes it's great, sometimes there are ingredients missing and sometimes the food will be so bland that you'll want to fall asleep in your pollo. I was promised tarragon! I shouldn't have to pay $16 for a dish and add my own! And speaking of prices, apparently everything just went up about three bucks per plate over the past few months while the quality has just taken a nosedive. Shameful. Some quick dish reviews from our last visit: Pappardelle con Funghi e Salciccia - roughly translated to pasta with mushrooms and fatty sausage. Save your $17 and just get some Jimmy Dean links and a bottle of cooking sherry for the same experience. Pollo with Sundried Tomatoes & Artichokes - see above. One of the ingredients was a complete lie. Bolognese Anything - pretty much mac & cheese with bits of hot dog. Yes that's an exaggeration but the flavor profile is spot on. So yeah, this is a place I used to love but has slid downhill over the years at an alarming rate. It gets a star for being within walking distance and having Peroni on tap but please, go somewhere else if you have a choice.

Happened into this unassuming, great little New York-style pizzeria for a quick lunch recently and was an instant fan. Thin, delicious crust, cheese pizza just like any respectable NY pizza joint, 'foldable' slices, original NY-style pizza. Dining area is spacious with tableside service after 5, you get free refills on soda and like most, REAL pizzerias, you have your choice of ordering an entire pie or selecting individual slices from several varieties at the buffet-style counter. Pizza doesn't get any better than this, especially Wilmington. No doubt the best pizza in town if not the Delaware Valley. Molto magnifica!

I have been to Cafe Verdi a few times in the past and I always thought they had good food. I haven't been in a few years and went today for lunch. I ordered a slice of buffalo chicken pizza, a tossed salad (the prepared one sitting in a pan), and a small fountain soda. To my suprise the total was $11.50!!! WTF for a slice and a small tossed salad and a drink? The pizza wasn't even that good. This place has some nerve to charge $4-5 dollars for a slice of pizza and $4-5 dollars for a small salad. Even a New Yorker would balk at this price. Cafe Verdi deserves a big SMH for ripping off it's customers!

Moving from NYC back to DE I had been spoiled with the best pizza options in the nation. Thankfully Cafe Verdi is only a few blocks from my house. Best pizza in Wilmington hands down. Try the Queen Elisabeth, it's my fav if you like a saucy pizza.

Cafe Verdi is our go-to whenever my sister, Mom and I want to meet somewhere relatively inexpensive and always delicious for dinner. Located in Trolley Square, across from Catherine Rooney's bar and the Logan House, Cafe Verdi offers you the option to sit down and eat or just pop in for a slice of pizza or calzone. They moved a few suites down, which threw me off a bit last night. The ambience is different inside - less pizza in a strip mall and more, "Hey! I get it....this is supposed to look like an Italian grotto." The food is always amazing. I never stray from my chicken alla griglia - two huge breasts of chicken with steamed broccoli and spinach. Last night, we had the polenta and eggplant stack (cold eggplant with mozzarella and roasted peppers) appetizers. For three discerning Italian palates, we were very happy. I had a pizelle for dessert, which my Mom had in her purse from a trip to see her Italian first cousin this weekend. No, I am not joking.

It's simple, in my opinion Cafe Verdi has by far the best pizza in Wilmington, if not all of DE. Im going with five stars because honestly the pizza in this town does not get better. I can not comment on the rest of their food, because honestly when i go there all i want is the pizza!! And if you want to know the truth the only reason they are so good, is because the second best pizza in the state is literally rite across the street at Ciao pizza Trolly...Competition breeds success and you will find it in the pizza here, you have my word as long as they change nothing!!

I only go here if I'm in a total pinch - crunched for time and desperate for Italian food. I always find their food low on flavor. The sauces are usually a little too thin for me. I'm a huge chicken parm fan, and theirs is just totally sub-par. They aren't *bad*; the food just never rises above mediocrity.

great tossed salad, phenomenal spaghetti agli olio. i'm glad we walked six miles before we ate because the portions are big. great pasta, so-so wine but wonderful customer service. don't go for the pizza. prices seemed a little high for a little pizzeria but the pasta is worth it and so is the friendliness of the staff.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
