OMG, The reviews here are so miss leading. The food is so blend, I can make this kind of food by myself. I would suggest the one on South Philadelphia, between 12th and Washington Ave, the Viet Huong.

I'm not sure if I just came in at a bad time, but my Pho was essentially lukewarm water with slices of cartilage floating in it. Gross. I'm giving two stars, because the service was really nice. I'm giving this another chance, because as I said, I came in during off hours.

Food: I don't eat red meat so I can't attest to any other pho besides the pho ga (chicken pho), but the pho ga is fantastic. I always come here to get the pho ga when I have a cold. A much better alternative to canned chicken noodle soup. :) I also religiously get their vegetarian egg rolls. They come with a spicy sweet fish sauce which I swear by. I've also had the chicken and rice meal - so good and filling! Atmosphere: Clean and lots of room to dine in. No booths, all tables. Service: Service has mostly been good. They have a very casual way of serving so if you are dining in for the first time don't expect too much. Food is always out very fast. I come in to get take out a lot and I've been offered water and tea while I wait, which is a nice touch.

The pho quality is pretty lacking. There was basically a 5 or 6 piece of meat and pretty pricy for what you get. Can't really compare to thenpho you get in south philly. The service is pretty lacking as well. I don't really expect much from Pho place but the waitress was not so friendly.

Horrible service. The inside is dingy, dark, and depressing. It's understaffed and the server is not friendly. Their seafood noodle soup is literally three shrimps, two pieces of squid, and two fish balls. Horrible value. It's one of the worst phos I've ever had. No question. Apparently the beef soup is good, but I can't have any of that so I can't judge this place on someone else's word because that's against the yelp policy.

DO NOT trust the pictures on the menu otherwise you would be super disappointed. Plus the waitresses were very unfriendly and wearing poker faces. Foods were ok but a bit tasteless, highly NOT recommended.

I ordered takeout and after paying I opened the container to put some napkins, hot sauce and brown sauce in my grilled chicken vermicelli , the old lady yelled and said "did I pay for that". Apparently they charge .25 for a little container of sauce. That was very rude of her and it's like going to McDonald's and being charged for ketchup

Had the brisket and meatball pho and it was delicious! Is recommend getting extra meatballs because they're just too tasty! The summer rolls were fresh and the shrimp didn't have a weird fishy taste. Ive been here a few times over the last 6 years and the food is consistently good. Our server was lovely and helped explain how they do their pho to our friends who had never been there before. I'll definitely be back soon.

Not sure why it was recommended to be 1 of the top ten must try restaurants in Delaware. I guess the author either never tried their food or taste blindness. I ordered a brisket and beef soup pho. Heavy msg broth with few slices of beef. I had msg allergic reactions rest of the day. I would never have their soup pho again. Service was quite good. The server was attentive and nice.

In short: This is one of my go-to restaurants in the Newark area, despite the slight drive. If I came alone, I'd get the regular brisket pho and one roast pork roll and be content. Word of warning, they run out of basil sometimes (usually Thursdays), but it's worth the risk. In full: I've been here so many times, we have the routine down pat as outlined below. For optimum experience, I'd recommend following a similar procedure. Modify to accommodate variations in taste preferences and appetites. 1. Check the window before entering to confirm we remember the order numbers correctly (34 and 7) 2. Order two large brisket pho (34) and two roast pork rolls (7) by number and the complimentary tea. For variety, switch out one #7 for a shrimp summer roll (1?). 3. Eat half of a roast pork roll appetizer, and feed the other 1.5 to boyfriend. 4. Divide the basil, lime, and bean sprouts among us and add to pho. 5. Add a smallish circle of the unlabeled red siracha and multiple circles of the unlabeled hoison sauce to pho and stir; adjusting sauce ratio to taste. 6. Eat 2/3 of pho, and feed the remainder to eats-until-he's-stuffed boyfriend. 7. Wait for boyfriend to order and consume a third #7 for dessert. 8. Flag down waitress, pay, depart, and succumb to food coma.

Worst dinner experience ever! The server did not speak a single word from I entered to I exited. She looked at me like I owed her money. She smiled at another table but when she came to my table her smile was gone!!! And terrible pork chop. This is disgusting!!!!! I would give it negative star if I could.

My husband & I moved to Bear, DE from Philly. I came here based on the reviews & the distance from our house. The first time was very disappointing. The prices are a little higher than places in South Philly. The pho noodles are disgusting. I agree with others who said that they are a bit stiff & taste like they weren't cooked all the way. The pho is so much better in South Philly. I haven't had a bowl that was disappointing in South Philly like this place is. My husband always gets the rice dishes. They are smaller and not as good as other places in Philly. I would drive all the way to Philly for a good bowl of pho, but my husband would rather stay local. In spite of my disappointment, I went back a couple more times because my cousin from Jersey wants pho when she visits. I've had bun bo hue, and the noodles taste much better than the pho. I also enjoy the Vietnamese iced coffees. The service needs improvement. The waitress never came back to check on us during our last dining experience. My husband finished his soda & wanted another one. The waitresses were just on their phones. Instead of trying to flag them down, we opted to get a drink somewhere else, so we got up & walked to the register to pay.

I went here because it has a great review. Boy was i disappointed! The lady who took my take out order had an attitude. The food was mediocre. Small portion for a size large. We ordered steak pho, chicken pho, and grille chicken rice which totalled 25 bucks. It Would Be Okay If It Is Large As It Said But It Was half the portion of what we are use to get in viginia, nyc, md, and San francisco.. The soup taste super watered down and they won't let you order small size for take out. In addition, they charged extra 50 cent for an extra plastic bowl. Need major improvement both in service and food. Big thumbs down for the price and quality of food. I never write bad review and I feek v I need to write this one because I don't want another person to be fooled.

Went back for more takeout and ordered the #55 specialty beef stew pho and it was delicious! Not too greasy and the flavor was so vibrant! The chunks of beef were tender with no fat. I'll be returning~ especially when it starts to get cooler outside!

Student in the area making this a weekly stop for hot and savory Pho. Today's bowl seemed tastier. Perhaps because of the chill in the air. Love it!

Very good, but understand what you're walking into when you order a Pho- you're not getting a hearty meal, you're getting a subtle flavor, warming, and satisfying. But certainly not a steak. Tons of selection, all very good, and you get plenty for you money.

  • Robert D.

Cafe sua da was so watered down I couldn't drink it. Pho had no flavor, Bun Bo Hue was weak.... the meat used was low quality in everything .... they wouldn't know Vietnamese food if they were in Vietnam.

Service is great. However, that doesn't cover the not so great food. I had the #30 steak pho, a classic dish. The vegetables were not fresh with obvious signs of browning. Our bowls, spoons, and chopsticks smelled strongly of chlorine. The overall taste was very bland, which even the largest amounts of tasty sriracha could not change. I would strongly recommend not eating the Pho here

I have been there may times (more than 24 times). The food is cheap and you get a lot of it. I think however that it must be under new management. The service is not as good anymore. I think they should train the wait staff as bit.

it's really hard finding a vietnamese restaurant in delaware that's on par with the ones in the big cities or large asian communities. but this one is one of the better ones around here. been here twice. the first time, my wife was disappointed, but the second time, it was better, i guess they changed their pho recipe.

Once upon a time, one from Delaware would have to travel to distant cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore, or New York to experience ethnic cuisine. I'm glad to say those days no longer exist. Nowadays, I only have to travel a few miles from my house to have a great bowl of pho! Pho Nhu Vu serves other Vietnamese dishes besides pho, but I always stick with the first word of their namesake and get the pho. I have tried the summer rolls on a couple occasions. Sorry, they just don't do it for me. It's hard for me to describe what I don't like about them. I'm just not crazy about them. Now the pho is a different story. I'm not a Pho connoisseur, so you can take my review with a grain of salt, but I think the pho from here is exceptional! I often catch myself dreaming about their large bowls of pho that have amazing depth and complexity. The color of the Bun Bo Hue soup emits a gorgeous red hue - pun intended! The wait staff is always prompt and courteous. The prices are very reasonable considering the large bowl of pho they serve. Writing this review has me wanting a bowl of pho now.

Sorely disappointed in this restaurant. Ordered veggie pho and it came with a few raw carrots and broccoli. The most important part of the dish, the broth, did not taste like pho broth. The tofu was scary looking. And the rice noodles were stiff, as though they hadn't been cooked enough. Don't know why this place had 3.5 stars.

Best Pho in Northern DE! Been coming here since this place was opened 'when the wife ran the show'. The wife is now running the Middletown location to which I've been to. Same quality Pho, but nicer and larger setting. Stop in and give it a try!

Living in Delaware after having grown up in NYC shows you that Delawareans will eat any kind of crap that you put in front of them. Just for a change of pace, we decided to try Pho Nhu Vu. We had the stuffed grape leaves with their insipid dip sauce. They cost $5.95 for 5 of them. They were probably worth about, $2.00. We both had the brisket and steak pho. They give you the skimpy, thin sliced meat raw: you get to mix it into the pitifully small amount of noodles, cilantro and onions. A separate bag contains the tiny wedge of lime, mint and, what appeared to be, very old bean sprouts. The broth has no taste worth speaking about. Well, maybe they waved a small piece of star anise over it. It was hot though. I guess that aside from just being a native New Yorker, and an avid fan of Philadelphia's Vietnam Restaurant I was more than a bit let down by this catastrophe of a meal. As I stated at the start of this review, Delawareans will eat and enjoy any kind of crap put in front of them, despite their having paid for it as well. This is the only reason I can think of that this place is still open for business. A quarter of a star would have been generous if I could give it.

Came here for Pho for take out. I called in my order and they said I could pick it up in 10 minutes. Incredibly fast. Let me just say that the menu does not do justice to what you can order. When I went to pay I noticed that they had Banh mi (Vietnamese Sandwiches). I uploaded a picture of that menu so everyone can see. for $3.25 - $3.95 for the sandwiches , I consider it a good deal. Note to self to order the sandwiches next time. Unfortunately, I ordered the steak and brisket pho. The pho is decent but not a wow. If you do take out, they give you raw beef and it will actually cook in the soup they give you. Pretty cool. There were a lot more noodles than beef. Also ordered an avocado smoothie. It was a thick dark green avocado-tasting smoothie. Delicious. I've had other avocado smoothies before adnd this place really mixes it well and makes it very thick. Also, they are able to mix in all the ice so there aren't lumps of ice in the smoothie.

The service incredibly sucks here. The taller girl with the glasses was really rude and quite aggressive when talking to me and my friends. The noodles in the pho were harder than at any other place I've been to. It is almost like it wasn't boiled long enough. The menu selection is great though, there are so many things to choose from and it's huge! The place has got an elegant modern vibe to it.

  • Matt Z.

I've eaten here several times and each time it was consistently good. I definitely would recommend eating in verse taking out so that you experience the freshness of the food as soon as it comes out rather then it being put into a container to allow the noodles to overly soften. I wish I could remember exactly what I've eaten here to make a recommendation but I can bet its all pretty good. Don't let the strip mall its in fool you, its worth a stop.

I'm not the best person to ask about pho. I had never tried it before going to this restaurant, but... I LIKE IT -- at least the way that they make it and serve it here. It's also very affordable. This is very near to my house, and I tried it once on a whim. I've been here about 5 times since I first tried it -- so about 5 times in the past year and a half. People I brought here seemed to like it. Also, it's affordable. I like the broth -- and it seems to me that this is an essential aspect of pho -- without great broth, there's not much more to say about it. I like the idea of pho in general -- mixing in fresh herbs and peppers and such is enjoyable. I always ask for extra jalapenos. If some people who don't love this place but like pho have alternative suggestions, I'd love to try them! Otherwise, I'll keep going here.

I ordered the steak and brisket Pho. Great price but not the most flavorful Pho I've had. Hit the spot on a rainy day but not sure if this place will make it in my lunch rotation.

This place was such a disappointment. I can't say a good thing about this restaurant, and it's clear that they cater to a crowd that is either unfamiliar with Vietnamese food, or so desperate for it, that they are happy to have anything they can get. We came here with a group so I got to try several dishes including the nem nuong spring rolls, the combination pho, grilled pork with rice, and bun bo hue along with iced coffee. The nem nuong spring rolls were anemic, having only a single strip of lettuce and no herbs inside. It was mostly filled with rice noodles and the nem nuong was the worst I have ever tasted. Plus you only get two roll for almost $5, and there's barely any meat or vegetables in the spring roll to justify the cost. The pho was terrible. I know a pho restaurant has bad broth when I need to use sriracha AND hoisin just to make it edible. Even with a lot of extra sauce, the pho was inedible. The broth barely had any beef flavor to it, and there was almost no flavor from the spices. There was barely any meat in the bowl and what was there was cut very thinly, as to maximize the profit. The bean sprouts that were given to us were turning brown, and there was barely any basil on the side. This ended up not being an issue since the pho broth was beyond help, but it looked particularly stingy as we were waiting for our food. The bun bo hue was just embarrassing, and this restaurant should be ashamed to misrepresent the dish. Adding tom yum soup paste to pho broth and adding some slivers of onion to the bowl does not make it bun bo hue. It's a completely different broth, even if it is beef based. The grilled pork with rice was the best of what we ordered, but that's not really saying much. First of all, they didn't even serve broken rice, it was just typical short-grain rice, which is a minor complaint. The meat was under-flavored and cut as thinly as possible to give the illusion that you were getting more meat than you ordered. The fish sauce was weak, and the pickled vegetables were barely pickled. All you got was a small pile of carrot slices that had the slightest hint of sourness, but no radish. There was nothing egregious about this dish, but it's not something I'd order again. The iced coffee was weak and bitter, and one of the worst I've ever had. it lacked the richness that it's supposed to have, which happens when places skimp out on the coffee grounds. This restaurant deserves to be slammed for it's lazy cooking and food shortcuts that clearly contribute to the poor quality of the food. It's clear that the owners of this restaurant are taking advantage of the lack of Vietnamese food in the area to serve sub-par food at a level of cooking that they would never entertain in their own homes. Thank god Philly isn't too far.

It's time for a Pho and I was in Bear, Delaware where Pho Nhu Vu is nestled in the strip mall. Bear in mind that you have to bear to the right at Pulaski Hwy rt 40 coming from the north to get to Pho NV, because you might miss it. I miss Pho since it's been awhile I have had a hot oxtail broth with brisket, flank stips of beef noodles in this hot, humid dog days of summer. But curiosity repeats itself and I found myself skipping to cook my grocery. Make sounds and you'll hear the slurping at Bear that this Pho is phontastic. While you are in between PA and MD, why not bear here?

kinda bland really. but vietnamese food is not usually my favorite anyway. service was pretty good and the restaurant was clean. i had veg spring rolls and some sort of noodle dish without the meat. i would go back if friends wanted to go again, but i wouldn't choose it on my own.

Pho Nhu Vu is a good Vietnamese restaurant for where it is, managing to hold their own against competing Vietnamese places, the few within a 10-mile radius, anyway. There's a lot to like: plenty of shopping center parking, a convenient location[1], and a well-maintained interior with attractive wall art. They're a relatively young operation, having been open for less than two years. Our server (Sokha) was friendly and got us what we needed. The owner[2] was on the floor helping too. Their cooking's tasty all-around. Our appetizer rolls were decent, and bun bo hue soup soothing. I liked my grilled lemongrass pork chop a lot (#12, the Com Suon Nuong Xa; $7.95). Did I mention prices are reasonable? While their fish sauce was a bit sweeter than I'd prefer (but that's just me), it tied everything together and wasn't bad at all. Credit cards accepted. [1] It's easy to get to if you're not directionally disabled like me [2] I think that was her

summary ... best pho in Delaware, rivals pho places in Center City, but stick to the pho! I used to work nearby this place and in the cold half of the year, this place was like a body-and-spirit warmer. Especially when you've spent 6 hours working outside in single digit temperatures, a hot (both temperature and spice-speaking) vat of soup is such a beautiful thing. Their soups are about 1/2 gallon size, more than enough for one person, but maybe not enough to split between two people. They all come with a side of fresh bean sprouts, thai basil, and jalapeno peppers to add to the soup. The table also has Sriracha hot sauce and hoisin sauce to add additional flavor based on each person's preferences. I personally add everything, but I went frequently with coworkers who preferred the soup as is. My personal favorite is the beef stew pho (it's unlike normal pho where they give you thin, uncooked beef strips, but instead give you slow-cooked chunks of beef and carrot) with yellow egg noodles. I also really, really like their Vietnamese meatballs. I have tried some of their more authentic phos (that come with tripe and fatty beef) but I found the cuts of meat to be too distracting. I've heard many Vietnamese prefer the other cuts of meat as they are tastier, but the texture was too much for me. A couple of other positive points. The soups are reasonably priced which means you can add in appetizers and still have a low-cost lunch that will fill you up all day. Also, the waitstaff is REALLY friendly and very attentive (you'll want frequent water refills if you make it spicy). The owner wanders around every now and then and ensures that people are happy. Now that I no longer live in the area, I drive out my way to come here for pho whenever I have a craving. This place is that good.

My sister and I stopped by for some take out Pho. We were driving home from a movie and were looking for something to eat late on a Sunday night. Not much is open in Bear/New Castle after 10pm on a Sunday night and when we saw this place open, we thought it would be better than pizza. There was a large Vietnamese family eating right in front and I always take it as a good sign when you can tell people are familiar with a specific cuisine will eat at the restaurant you are visiting. The young teenage girl that took our order was really nice and asked us if we ever had Pho before (no, first time). She warned us about the beef being raw, which was nice of her. I thought the meat would be in there while we drove home and would be cooking but she explained that we would have to put it in when we opened up our containers at home. My sister and I tend to be adventurous eaters so we weren't concerned but I appreciate the warning. I'm sure other people could have been freaked out. It was really good: still piping hot after we got it home. They packaged all the different ingredients for the Pho really well for us. Soup can be a disaster as take out. One order of the beef pho was more than enough for the two of us. We also got some beef and rice noodle dish which was lack luster. The beef was good but there wasn't any sauce and too many noodles. I imagine it would have been better if we were eating in because I've heard that Vietnamese is all about the condiments. The Spring rolls were great. I don't remember the decor being amazing or bad, but again, we got take out. We hit the strip mall up a little late on a Sunday night. It was deserted and didn't look like the best place to be late at night but there were two of us and we were able to park right in front. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't go back. I would definitely eat here again, during the day by myself, no problem. If it was getting really late at night, I might not hit up that parking lot by myself.

Great service. The food comes out so quickly. Got the summer rolls for appetizer which were very good. I got the steak and brisket pho and my fiancé got the steak, brisket, flank pho which he really enjoyed. We have the mange cheesecake which was delicious. Overall, the food is good and the atmosphere is nice, the restaurant is well decorated. Don't let the bad reviews turn you away from getting some local Pho that doesn't require you to go to Philly.

I don't want to be mean, but if I wasn't starving and desperate I don't think I would've continued eating my meal here. And in the end I probably I shouldn't have wasted my energy, because I definitely got nauseous and threw it all up later. (I don't think it was food poisoning, I just think my stomach didn't care too much for the food). I was staying in Delaware for the night, passing through on a road trip, and didn't want to dine at any of the nasty faux-food chain restaurants like (Cr)Applebees, which pretty much seems to be all there is around those parts. I was hoping to find a hidden gem, and perhaps I'm spoiled by the really amazing, authentic, fresh Vietnamese places I used to live by, but I was definitely let down. I didn't try the pho, I just got this lemongrass rice noodle and tofu dish, which was way to greasy for me to handle, the noodles were not as fresh and light as I hoped, and the -apparently- fried tofu was rubbery. Even the chopped peanuts garnished on top seemed like they came preserved in a can, if such a thing is possible.

I mainly came here for pho but I found it to be merely okay. Many people like the pho here for it's broth and stated that the broth is not greasy, but I think the lack of oils in it makes it lack flavor. In my most recent visit, I found the broth to be bland like water with barely any soup bone marrow flavor. I could taste the star anise and sugar more than the soup bone base. The portion was also smaller than I expected. I like the pho at Pho Cali better. Pho Cali does not serve the best pho either but I think the broth there is richer in soup bone flavor, the portions are bigger, and the price is a dollar cheaper! I have ordered spring rolls and other non-pho dishes from Pho Nhu Vu though and thoroughly enjoyed those, but any extra appetizers you get can quickly become pricey and you don't get a very good portion. I do like how the restaurant offers many specialty blended Asian drinks, but these specialty drinks can dent the wallet as well. Again, you don't get much, just a large wine glass full. Another thing I would like to mention is that they hire non-Vietnamese waiters here that have no knowledge of Vietnamese food what so ever. The party I came with once tried to ask for dish descriptions about some curry fish dish and the waiter was unable to answer. I also asked him about the jackfruit blended drink because I wasn't sure what that tasted like but he didn't know. So if you come, do come with someone who has tried the food before or you won't know what to order because the waiter was not helpful. The owner also got snappy with me once because I forgot to ask her to split a bill and she had to reprint it. I give this place 3 stars because I mainly go to Vietnamese restaurants for pho and I don't think the pho here is very good value. The ingredients are fresh but the price and portions are not right. Every dish costs about $1.00 to $1.50 more than what I think it is worth.

This is what I think of as a standard pho place -- but almost certainly the best that tiny DE has to offer. The appetizers are hit and miss. Try the roast pork rolls.

Cha gio was great, cooked well but not soaked in oil. Taste was great, sauce well made. Spicy seafood has great broth with enough spice to have flavor but not overpower the other elements of the broth. Bun Cha Gio well made, noodles firm and tasty without getting soggy or clumpy. One of the better places I have had pho in Delaware.

Really good food, loved the seafood soup, and the spring rolls (?) were pretty good. Service is friendly and fast. The waitresses (and owner?) were very nice. I've been there 2 times so far and have always been pleased. And the prices are GREAT :-)

This place sucks. The food is not real authentic Vietnamese food. The pho lacks flavor and tastes like they water is down or something. The summer rolls suck too for the price. I ordered something in Vietnamese there and they got my order completely wrong because the employees there are not Vietnamese. I recommend going to Pho Cali on Kirkwood Hwy. They lack in decor there but the food it WAY BETTER

if you're looking for a pho shop because you're in the newark area passing through DO NOT EAT HERE! if i could give this place no stars i would. i walked in and they were already staring me down. i had my 2 kids with me under the ages of 4 and of course we're going to be making some noise. i let the kids play with the chopsticks and this old guy from behind the counter comes over and tells me that i shouldn't let my kids play with the chopsticks cause they're going to stick it up their noses and they're going to go to the emergency room. i was like wtf?! my kid accidently drops the plastic bowl sauce bowl and the waitresses look over the counter give me a dirty look and continue to stare at me. and don't you know it as a protective mother i stared right back. anyways, we ordered the summer rolls (fresh rolls), the pho (house special) and some coconut juice. the summer rolls were expensive for just 2 rolls and they were the standard rolls with shrimp, old lettuce, and noodles. nothing special or extra herbs like mint or cilantro or even the thai basil. the sauce for the rolls were watery tasting. the pho, NO TASTE! i had to put in hoisin and sriracha how many times and had to ask for fish sauce! the veggie sides - the typical basil leaves, lime and bean sprouts. the bean sprouts looked like it was old. the plus side was that the meats were tender but the noodles were soggy. the coconut juice tasted like it had dishwashing soap poured into it. i paid for a coconut dish washing soaped drink. no, i didn't drink it. we're laotian/thai and we've had pho in hawaii, japan, thailand, laos, california, iowa, ohio, maryland and this place has got to be the worst of them all. save your money and go somewhere else!

ok, i'm stuck in newark, DE for 2wks and dammit, who the h*ll's gonna last 2wks without pho?! so i did what every ordinary person would do. i go to yelp and checkout the reviews, read the highest rated one and go eat. As it turns out, everyone was right. I had something similar to pho. The food was authentic (tasted like a vietnamese person cooked it), pretty cheap (no tax in delaware), great service (waiter was really nice - half vietnamese/hispanic kid?). Bottom line, if you are sick of burgers and pizza, then this is what you need. I'll probably go again tomorrow.

Ok, so I've only been here once, while passing through from Bethlehem, PA and I ate the food once I got home in Baltimore- soooo, take this review with a grain of salt -unlike my other reviews which are gospel ;) It's a little weird that it is in a strip mall, but that's never stopped me before. I was hopeful and, while what I selected was limited, I still like Saigon Remembered on York Road better. ~ Summer Roll- it was cold and the shrimp looked like they were encased in a weird cellophane wrap. There were lots of bean sprouts (I hope they were washed...). It was good with the sauce, but having it COLD with the chewey/gummy wrap was not the best. Maybe it didn't travel well? ~ Egg rolls - good. Average, nothing to write home to mama about ~Steak & Brisket Pho - OK, so I've had limited exposure to Pho and this was a VERY flavorful dish. Not mu favorite, BUT I could tell it was good and high quality- just my personal preference that I didn't like it. I could also tell that the people who packaged my dish were very 'intense' as I did not realize that Pho was more of an 'event' meal - they painstakingly wrapped and packaged all of the accompaniments to the dish/soup for me. I was very impressed with this- more so than the actual dish. ~Grilled Chicken- Maybe I'm a simple simon, but this dish was yummy. It reminded me of the chicken on a stick that one can get at a festival. Came with plain old white rice - I ate it up! I LOVE unusual dishes so it really surprised me that I preferred this over the soup. With all of this said, I know I've only been here once- and for take out, but I STILL prefer Miss Saigon on York Road (Baltimore) better - and I've been there plenty.

When I moved to Delaware from Portland, OR, the one thing that I knew I'd miss most is our weekly visits to our favorite Pho places. Thankfully, we immediately discovered Pho Nhu Vu. The pho is very tasty, and they have some good appetizers. We had the beef wrapped in grape leaves...strange but very good. We have been here twice now, and enjoyed both trips. Yay!

Pho Nhu Vu is my default choice for going out to eat. The food is consistently good and the service usually is very quick. Just the right qualities for a casual dining place. Do try their flan for dessert.

I went for the first time today, and like a few others, had a little bit of trouble finding it; but the seach was worth it. Very friendly service when you walk in the door, the waitress gave me a few recommendations. I got the Bun Bo Hue; the broth was very good. I thought even though it's the first time I've had it, very flavorful and spicy, and the eggrolls were full of meat and crispy. Very relaxed atmosphere, clean and quick service. I will definitely be a return customer and will be telling my friends. I have been back several times, at least once a month, trying different Phos; the Bun Bo Xao is delicious as well as the stuffed grape leaves. I love this place!

As it has been mentioned, finding oneself in the shadow of a Burger King... in Bear Delaware... can perhaps taint the initial expectation, but Pho Nhu Vu shakes it off gracefully. I've found gems in strip malls before but I always hesitate at first. Truly it was much nicer inside than a lot of Vietnamese places I've been in that really serve *the good stuff*, I thought... hmm maybe overcompensating for other things. But it was not long before I was proven completely wrong. I had a pretty good feeling after cruising the menu that they had it together - not just as a strictly Pho joint but all round Vitenamese everything - including bahn mi which even the places on Washington Ave in Philly don't have for the most part (or they -only- have them). A good variety - some vegetarian options too, soups, bún, and broken rice platters and specialty drinks. My bf and I both ordered bubble teasm one honeydew and one lychee - both delicious, a couple undercooked pearls. The service was friendly, fast and efficient. It was all quite clean, including the bathroom. Our búns were delightful - one chicken, one shrimp/grilled pork - both were the perfect balance of tender, caramelized meats, super crisp veggies and tender plentiful noodles - with a perky & sweet nuoc mam cham. I could have done with some basil and mint to go with my cilantro but I'm not going to complain - it was all round well done, * especially* being in Delaware, in the middle of nowhere. Slightly redundant, that. Since I find myself in DE fairly often I know I will be back. Seeing as there would have been oodles of Phillies game night traffic in South Philly - I am all to happy to have circumvented that business without sacrificing getting some Vietnamese in my belly - especially at a price totally comparable to cheap South Philly!

I'm giving it four stars because it's in Delaware. Near a spot on Route 40 where the road expands to SIX eastbound lanes (including turning). People must really clamor for expedited access to strip malls. I had a bit of trouble finding this place. Burger King occupies the "prime" location in this mall (read: blocking everything else). Also within view are Bob Evans, Ruby Tuesdays, McDonald's, Chick-Fil-A, Papa John's, Taco Bell and Wendy's. If you're totally convinced of the country's moral obligation to insure its citizens, this depressing black hole of fast food will shake your faith. It's totally garish, but Delaware seems determined to press on until the entire state is contained within a giant box store. I have no idea why the proprietors of Pho Nhu Vu set up shop here. Clearly, a salad that was assembled in Tuscon two days ago is good enough for most of the people who live here. Still, they turn out a pretty nice product (three stars in DC or even NYC). The broth is fairly rich in flavor. The tendon wasn't quite firm enough, but the meat was generally OK. Nice to have Chinese basil. It's too much to expect in Delaware, but the broth might be a bit more complex. I had a "drink" involving beans and coconut. The restaurant should invest in wide straws. The owner was delighted that I'd ordered this "special" drink. Good luck, Pho Nhu Vu. It can get pretty rough downwind of a Burger King.

It was one of the best vietnamese restaurant in DE 2 years ago. When i visited today, all dishes were such a disappointment. There were two sizes of noodle soups but there was not difference between regular or large. The only difference was the sizes of bowls but the amounts of noodles were the same. I ordered a beef noodle soup, my friend ordered a seafood noodle soup. Both soups were tasteless as water. The price was fair but I am not sure if i will visit again.

Although the owners' son is one of my best friends, I must say that Pho Nhu Vu is one of the best VIetnamese restaurants around here. They have such a striking decor for a Vietnamese restaurant. Their creative minds help set a soothing atmosphere for any customer. Usually, Vietnamese restaurants are a little dirtier than a typical restaurant but this one was spot clean. Even the rest room was maintained appropriately! I would recommend trying out the Bun Bo Hue or the Pho there. I think that Pho Nhu Vu makes the best Bun Bo Hue! The service was extraordinary and impressive as you do not have to wait very long to take your order, get your food, and receive your check. The service is spot on! Anything else I missed? Nope, I think that does it! Definitely recommend going here!

its what i'd expect for a pho place on a road trip passing through delaware, located in a shopping center beside ace hardware broth was not bad. noodle quality was not that good...there was something about the noodles. they seemed wider than usual. and not bouncy but snappy. also ordered grilled lemongrass porkchop on rice. 1st bite was good - prob bc i cut off a side piece w/ fat. the rest of the entire 2 pork chops was dry. if i was on another road trip passing through delaware and really craving pho i'd come here but otherwise probably not. there is better pho in philly, arlington/falls church, richmond, etc.

Wonderfully prepared food. The service is respectful and the sitting is very pleasant. It used to be an old Subway or Quizno's, but the new owners have jazzed up the place beautifully. It's clean, colorful and a wonderful setting for lunch or dinner with loved ones. The soup is amazing here. As a side note, it is HUGE- which I suspect was deliberate so that you can enjoy it when you bring the rest home. Overall the food is very good and tasty, excellent quality and reasonably priced. I keep coming back every other month or two- which says alot. It's a quaint little area in a small plaza, but is very hard to miss. Once inside, you'll have a delightful experience. Try it once- it truly reflects Vietnamese cuisine!

I am from the Bay Area, California. This place sucked. I went to this place based on the other reviews and because I was craving Pho. The spring rolls were missing mint and were filled with noodles. The dipping sauce was good though. The soup was hot, but watered down and tasteless. I do not put all the "extra" sauces that some people do. But the place didnt have sarracha. Isn't that a staple? I will never go here again. The price for a bowl of Pho Tai was $8, I can get a better bowl in the SF for $5 that is super yummy.

Very good food. My wife and I shared the pork rolls and they were excellent. The pho is very good as well, not the best that I have had, but one of the better ones. This also had the best atmosphere of any Vietnamese restaurant I have been to.

With my new found expertise on Pho, I took the MIL to Pho Nhu Vu for her first Pho experience at 83 years of age. Bear Yelpers are right on, the pho here is as good as any. The staff is so nice and helpful; they knew I was helping someone with their first experience and smiled at my instructions. We ordered beef broth Pho with veggies and tofu. The broth was so flavorful and everything in it was cooked perfectly. The MIL loved the Pho spoons and the fact that they were easy to sip from and she loved the bright colors of the fresh vegetables; she could not wait to get home to tell BFF Bunny (92) about her experience. I told her she needed one more new experience and ordered a strawberry pearl smoothie; our adorable server split it between two glasses for the full effect. The black pearls of tapioca took a bit getting used to and then with gusto she slurped her first black pearl smoothie; BFF Bunny is going to be so envious. I cannot say worth the drive because we have Pho 95 in Denver but definitely worth a visit when we are visiting the MIL.

The best Pho in Delaware, but that's not saying much. What is saying much is you don't have to go to Washington street in Philly anymore to get a great bowl of Pho! If you don't know what Pho is its Vietnamese beef noodle soup. However calling it that doesn't do it any justice...it's completely NOT chicken noodle soup but with beef instead. If you've never seen or smelled it before just go and get some from a great place like this. I'm totally addicted to this stuff, and that's a good thing. There's no better meal for the money and it's pretty cheap...if you get the large you will be full all day. The place is very casual and nicely decorated...you don't even need to bring your token Asian friend to show you how things work........ Happy eating!

When this place first opened a few years ago we came here not know what pho even was! We had no clue how to eat it or evenwhat to order. Since then we have developed a special love and passion for pho. We've tasted all the best phos in LA (cali) when my bf moved out there and we STILL come right back to our fav pho place in DE. We love the freshness of the basil, bean sprouts, limes (juicy limes! Makes be vey excited) etc... The broth is so flavorful yet light and oh so comforting to drink. The noodles dont stick to eachother when chopsticked up. The tai in my pho tai is perfect ! The grape leaves are my fav and the mango bubble tea could be better if it we actual mango juice. But i have a special place in my heart and tummy for this place... The owners are always so nice and welcoming. we make a trip here whenever we are in the area =)

Best pho in Delaware, hands down. On par with the best on Washington St. in Philly. Unlike most pho shops, they do offer other dishes, which is nice for your non-pho loving "friends", but really, if they don't love pho, are they really friends? Don't go to Philly anymore for your pho fix, just go here. Unless you also need to go grocery shopping, then make the trek.

This place was excellent. I am a bit of an amateur when it comes to Vietnamese food, but I took the advice of the person I was with and really enjoyed my meal. I wasn't expecting much given the location and storefront, but the place was nice on the inside and the food was great. I had a bowl with pork, noodles, and salad with an egg roll. Not sure what it was called (number 21 I think) but it was delicious.

  • Tony J.

Went back for more takeout and ordered the #55 specialty beef stew pho and it was delicious! Not too greasy and the flavor was so vibrant! The chunks of beef were tender with no fat. I'll be returning~ especially when it starts to get cooler outside!

Very good, but understand what you're walking into when you order a Pho- you're not getting a hearty meal, you're getting a subtle flavor, warming, and satisfying. But certainly not a steak. Tons of selection, all very good, and you get plenty for you money.

Cafe sua da was so watered down I couldn't drink it. Pho had no flavor, Bun Bo Hue was weak.... the meat used was low quality in everything .... they wouldn't know Vietnamese food if they were in Vietnam.

    (2)

I would strongly recommend not eating the Pho here

it's really hard finding a vietnamese restaurant in delaware that's on par with the ones in the big cities or large asian communities. but this one is one of the better ones around here. been here twice. the first time, my wife was disappointed, but the second time, it was better, i guess they changed their pho recipe.

I have been there may times (more than 24 times). The food is cheap and you get a lot of it. I think however that it must be under new management. The service is not as good anymore. I think they should train the wait staff as bit.

Even the chopped peanuts garnished on top seemed like they came preserved in a can, if such a thing is possible.

summary ... best pho in Delaware, rivals pho places in Center City, but stick to the pho!

Every dish costs about $1.00 to $1.50 more than what I think it is worth.

if you're looking for a pho shop because you're in the newark area passing through DO NOT EAT HERE! if i could give this place no stars i would. i walked in and they were already staring me down. i had my 2 kids with me under the ages of 4 and of course we're going to be making some noise. i let the kids play with the chopsticks and this old guy from behind the counter comes over and tells me that i shouldn't let my kids play with the chopsticks cause they're going to stick it up their noses and they're going to go to the emergency room. i was like wtf?! my kid accidently drops the plastic bowl sauce bowl and the waitresses look over the counter give me a dirty look and continue to stare at me. and don't you know it as a protective mother i stared right back. anyways, we ordered the summer rolls (fresh rolls), the pho (house special) and some coconut juice. the summer rolls were expensive for just 2 rolls and they were the standard rolls with shrimp, old lettuce, and noodles. nothing special or extra herbs like mint or cilantro or even the thai basil. the sauce for the rolls were watery tasting. the pho, NO TASTE! i had to put in hoisin and sriracha how many times and had to ask for fish sauce! the veggie sides - the typical basil leaves, lime and bean sprouts. the bean sprouts looked like it was old. the plus side was that the meats were tender but the noodles were soggy. the coconut juice tasted like it had dishwashing soap poured into it. i paid for a coconut dish washing soaped drink. no, i didn't drink it. we're laotian/thai and we've had pho in hawaii, japan, thailand, laos, california, iowa, ohio, maryland and this place has got to be the worst of them all. save your money and go somewhere else!

Soooo goood!!!! some of the best vietnamese i've had in a long time. I highly reccomend coming here even if it is out of the way. I went in very sick and craving the pho.. the owner really was kind and caring knowing that it would make me feel better. She sent me home with a full belly and a smile on my face. Great food and great service. cant go wrong!

ok, i'm stuck in newark, DE for 2wks and dammit, who the h*ll's gonna last 2wks without pho?! so i did what every ordinary person would do. i go to yelp and checkout the reviews, read the highest rated one and go eat.
