Great place for families! The buffet was really good. The adults and the kids all enjoyed. We had 14 people, they were personal, efficient and all really enjoyed!!

We ate there for Dinner and Breakfast as part of the Polar Express train ride package. The dinner was ok. but don't waste your time on the soggy steamed veggies or the very dry "prime" rib. Drink requests were slow and when I asked to order dessert, the server stated that "there are two other tables with their drink order and I would have to wait." Incredibly rude. We were hoping breakfast would be better. And it was, marginally. Egg white omelet was at least cooked thoroughly. Bowls were warm so the yogurt and fruit was lukewarm. Strawberries and melons were not ripe but the bacon, sausage and hash-browns were edible. As an added bonus, our son's toy fire truck walked away. I feel badly for ANY family who actually paid $21 per person for this place. We will definitely NOT be eating here again.

The food is not good, nor worth the price. But wait, there's more.... The manager George, is just plain rude. We let him know that the food was not good, not wanting anything in return. He strait insulted us and then began to ignore anything else we had to say. When I asked for all business card he said they didn't have any. A staff member directed him to where they were and gave me the information for the general manager. It is clear that the staff does not appreciate the way George treats the customers. I would venture to say he probably treats his staff the same way. Too bad that this place is attached to the train depot where families go to enjoy themselves. We will follow up with the general manager about the food quality for future visitors. However, George is obviously the true problem at this location and the complaints upward will be mainly about his lack of respect for his customers.

I read a lot of negative yelps on this place and scratching my head. Yes, it is a buffet, yes it was included with my stay but the food was pretty good. We waited till 7 to eat (it was packed at 6) and we were seated in 2 minutes. Staff was pleasant - but since it was a buffet not much interaction. They have a nice carving station for dinner and the fresh cooked pasta station was actually very good and getting what you want in it, cooked the way you wanted, right in front of you made it better. There were a couple of vegan items also which I thought was a nice touch. The breakfast had lots of fresh fruits and the omelet station was very good. I like a place that puts a coffee carafe on the table so you can keep the cup full. Very convenient and easy - what you want when on vacation and would think this would be great if you had a bunch of kids.

Here for a buffet lunch as part of a Grand Canyon bus tour. Friendly servers, good food, extremely clean place. Congrats to them for doing such a great job.

To call this place a Cafe is a bit misleading, but since we had arrived a few hours early to partake in the surroundings, we arrived just in time for dinner which is between 4:00 - 9:00 pm. Being a buffet style, and the only place to grab a decent bite to eat for dinner, and with lil ones buffets are always good. The place has its small town train station charm if this is what it's supposed to like. There is a toy model train that goes around the restaurant high up along the wall where it delights and amuses the lil ones. Tables a bit too close to one another where your trying to get by to get to the buffet spread but have to bump into two or three neighboring customers as well. No aisle or walkway really outlined. The food options fared no much better. A lot of the items ( maybe all of the items ) seem as if they were from a box, a can, or a frozen bag where you just add water or just heat and stir occasionally. Even the carving station which was a beef roast or a turkey roast didn't seem enticing. What got me was something thing labeled as Ratatouille ( "*_*" smirk like the animated pic ) under the hot area and something that looked quite similar to it next to the salads and greens in the cold section. Anyways there's two sides to the buffet but its both exactly the same with two types of bread rolls in the middle. There's also a cooking station on one side where they can quickly heat up one of four tossed dishes for you. We got the Chicken Alfredo for the kids, and they seemed to like it. But if you do have PLENTY of time prior to your planned trip, there are a lot of places nearby even if its a short drive. Or maybe a nice stroll. It's not the worst, but it's not the greatest either. Not bad for its place. Just convenient.

$20+ for a not so great dinner buffet! This review may be biased since I'm a vegetarian. I have never been to such a terrible restaurant, and for the price you pay the food is absolutely bad. Everything including the ambiance, the crowd was good except for the food quality and choices.

  • Rachel K.

Slow table service. Food on par with old school cafeterias. Food not warm. Veggies soggy, cold, clearly from frozen. Pasta bar saving grace but hold the sauce. Live music the first night was OK; tonight it was SO bad. Like the equipment was under water. Layout = loud like a cafeteria. Breakfast also so-so. Omelet station saves it. Restaurant was part of our package with train and hotel. Had it not been, we'd definitely not have gone back. Nor paid the high prices for it. Fortunately there's a Dollar Store nearby to pick up Tums.

$22pp dinner buffet? I think not for a cafeteria style buffet. Locals don't even support this place.

If you like mediocrity this is the place for you! Canned corn swimming in water, brown overcooked broccoli and limp lettuce. Under seasoned everything except the carved beef. The highlight was the carving and pasta bar attendants. They were cheerful and personable. Breakfasts were fine. Do not do the package deal that includes meals. Walk two blocks over to Rt 66 instead.

  • Phillip H.

My dog eats better than this! The ground beef was soupy and bland Taco Bell uses more seasoning. Chicken was ok again unseasoned overly fatty. Chorizo and potatoes where horrific I almost puked. It reminded me of a high school cafeteria except worse .. Save yourself and don't even go through the door just run it's painfully obvious that whoever is cooking the food would be better suited in virtually any other capacity

Buffet breakfast expansive, omlet to order good. Piping hot coffee in carafe on table. Will be back tomorrow night and try dinner.

We bought a package deal that hotel stay, train ride to the Grand Canyon, two dinners and two breakfasts. The dinners were horrible. It was all you can eat buffet style. The selections were limited and what was offered was equal to bad school cafeteria or summer camp food. The only highlight was the pasta station which was the only fresh hot flavorful option. Our receipt showed the buffet as costing 22 bucks per person! There are several eating options within walking distance to the hotel. Go to any of them, they have to be better than the grand depot cafe.

  • Fred R.

Much better than we were expecting! Pleasantly surprised. The waitress was nice contrary to what we were also expecting. See what is on the menu for tomorrow. We may have brisket according to what I gather.

If this wasn't included in the tour package we took I would never come back. The food was poor at best. The guy behind the buffet kept sneezing into the food. The food was so bland and looked milky? Honestly the best thing that I had from here was the dinner roll that came with the salad. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. That being said the staff were sweethearts.

Was skeptical about eating here after the reviews however decided to give it a try. Our 2 year old enjoyed seeing the train inside going around the room. The food was OK, we got there right before the evening train brought people back hot fresh food was put out then. Deserts were really good. I think we had the only kid in the whole place but I recommend it if you have little ones

  • Pamela H.

Disclaimer: Our meals here were included in our AAA railway package; I would almost never choose a buffet because I can't do them justice. If I were on my own for meals in Williams, I would not have eaten here for that reason alone. We had two dinners and two breakfasts here and I can't complain. The carving station had a really nice brisket one night and a roast of beef the the other. The pasta station and omelette station were a nice touch and I enjoyed both, but I only had olive oil and garlic with veggies on the pasta, it's hard to get that wrong. The servers were really great about bringing drinks and desserts. They even served a decent flan one night.

  • Jennifer N.

Why are the hamburgers in a vat of hot water/oil? And why is the pulled pork also in what looks like barbecue sauce water. This 'buffet' was included as part of our tour.. But I'd never suggest paying for a meal here. Reminded me very much of a college cafeteria- even down to the assigned seats with strangers. No thanks.

  • Brian B.

Dinner and breakfast was included in our vacation package, and That's probably the only reason to eat there. The dinner was disappointing, with most of it too wet or too dry. The breakfast, however, was pretty good. Custom omelettes, fresh fruit, and other selections were tasty. So in my opinion, go there for breakfast but not dinner.

  • Luciana L.

Not bad for a buffet. We had dinner and breakfast here which was included in our Polar Express package. The food was decent, the service good and it was a nice Christmas-y atmosphere. My toddler liked the train that was going around the restaurant. I wouldn't come here if the meals weren't included in my package.

    (3)
  • Chris D.

it was tough eating my dinner. tough beef, tough chicken... didn't give the pork a try. salad was dry and stale. the corn was so over cooked, it tasted like paper. tiramisu was like...I can't find the words. drinks were included and the coffee was good so 2 stars for the drinks. oh, the make to order pasta was decent. service was not bad but I would not come back.

A couple of years ago we ate here as part of a Polar Express package, for dinner and breakfast. At that time, the meals were very good, many options and very fresh and flavorful. Last weekend we stayed here again and ate dinner at the buffet, but was definitely not what I remember. The servers were grumpy, check-in line was very slow and the food was really not appetizing. The options were very limited and what was there looked like food that had sat under a warmer all day. The chicken fingers were so bad my kids wouldn't eat them, and that says a lot. The carving station was serving a beef, I can't remember what exactly, but the person carving it was cutting the teeniest pieces possible and only serving one. The pasta station looked promising but I ended up with a bowl full of oil, gross. The meals come included with some vacation packages, but if you pay at the door be prepared, it is EXPENSIVE! Over $50 for one adult and 2 kids. And that's before gratuity. The food quality definitely does not equate to the cost. There are plenty of options in town walking distance away, go enjoy the local flavor and you'll be glad you did!

Not many choices. However the food was ok. We had meal vouchers as part of the three day Grand Canyon package. Overall it was a good deal.

  • Brenda H.

We ate at the grand Depot Cafe tonight. Food was terrible. The brisket was fatty and greasy. The chicken tenders were over cooked. For $21 per person it is not worth it. We spent $85. And had a nice salad. The server Adele was wonderful. No fresh fruit on the buffet she went to the kitchen and brought him watermelon.

    (2)
  • Neil G.

I couldn't believe how bad the food was. One would think that this would be top shelf food, even if it is a buffet. The Holiday Inn Express has better food. The biscuits were hockey pucks and the gravy was the consistency of water. Gravy is supposed to be thick. I am not sure what the hell they used in it but I am not sure it was sausage. Trust me, go to the McDonalds.

  • Albert H.

Like Hospital Cafeteria food except it has the railroad atmosphere, and the "nice hotel" sort of price attached if you're a paying customer (and not free with hotel). Food is bland, mainstream American fare with a large dose of white trash preference - do you like a bunch of pre-prepped half hot dogs in their half buns in a buffet bin? Of course Mac 'n cheese with that too. yep. Breakfast is a notch better than dinner, but many items not up to par. Grits were pasty and Elmer-glue like. Omelet had unmelted cheese in it. Pancakes seemed like they were made a long time ago. English Muffin was already dried out before I toasted it, and the toaster hardly toasts it at all. Salsa with the omelet was tolerable though. On and on. So, if it's free and you're a cheapskate like me then go anyway. If not, skip this place and find a restaurant on the main row of restaurants across the tracks.

Flan!! A decent buffet but the flan was amazing so 5 stars for the flan!!!

I have posted reviews on Urban Spoon but this is my first review on Yelp. I have never given a restaurant a bad review before, and I really don't enjoy doing it. But this place deserves one. I went for the dinner buffet. There wasn't much of a selection, the hot food was overcooked, the quality wasn't very good, and it was overpriced. I spent three years in the dorms, and I think the dorm food was better than this. I saw some customers giving vouchers to the cashier, so I'm guessing that they bought packages for the train ride and/or hotel, and the meals were included. I can't see how this place could survive otherwise. Williams is a small town, and there aren't too many choices of where to eat. But I think any other restaurant in town would have been better than this.

  • Susan R.

Service and food was average at best and it was way over priced. Someone needs to show them what a real buffet should be for the high price they charge. I wish I had read these reviews before I wasted my money. I won't make this mistake on the return trip from the Grand Canyon.

I want to first start off by saying this place is NOT kid friendly. We had dinner and breakfast here. The dinner was way overpriced for the quality of food. Everything tasted very bland. You'd think at a buffet there would be a lot of choices but that wasn't the case. The buffet is split and on both sides they have the same food. I had to salt and pepper everything just to taste it. Most of the items were of things that would be cheap to make. The roast was very fatty. Usually my kid will at least eat chicken strips and mac n' cheese but not at this place. The only thing I did enjoy was the slice of apple pie they served for desert. You can have a choice of a brownie or apple pie. My kid got the brownie. To me the brownie was chocolate cake with dribbles of chocolate over it. I was not impressed at all with the dinner menu. For the price it could have been way better Breakfast was a little better. They at least had sausages and bacon that were good. The sausage gravy was horrible and looked like it wasn't cooked right. It was very greasy. I think the breakfast was way better as I could taste it. They have this place setup so when you get on and off the train it's mealtime. To get into the place you have to walk through a gift store. This place is definite a tourist trap if I've ever seen one. Next time I will check into what Williams has to offer for restaurants. Even a delivered pizza would have been better.

We came here after The polar Express train ride. A couple of weeks before we did The North Pole Experience in Flagstaff and the buffet there was better by far. The food here is cheap and low quality and tastes like it. I was bummed because I was really hungry and looking forward to a nice dinner after our ride on the train.

Great service, good food (Dinner). The pasta was the best we had, it was made as order. Got a great service from Karen and the chief who made the pasta..

I would have given a NO star review, but it is not an option. I am always leery of places where you pay before you can see the food and was proven right once again. Our group of 5 arrived an hour before the lunch buffet ended and we were seated immediately after paying. We were deeply disappointed once we arrived at the buffet line though. The only options we had were hamburgers(pre fab frozen kind), stale buns, cold potato wedges, dirty rice(was ok), and chicken strips. The salad bar was a little better, but not much. However the desserts looked amazing, However we didn't get to try them since they pulled them all except for the pudding before we could try them. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY......GO ELSEWHERE!!!!! AT 12.50 A PLATE YOU CAN DO WAY BETTER ANYWHERE ELSE.

Came here to have lunch as it was part of the package that came with tour we got from The Grand Canyon Tour Company. The food was served buffet style, but the food fell real short of the lower end buffets you can easily get in Vegas. Food was very blahhhh!!!! I would have easily gone for a fast food place instead of this place, but hey it was part of the package we paid for and after being on the road for several hours, beggars can't be choosers. Their roasted chicken gave me flashbacks of the roasted chicken we were served in the cafeteria during my school days. That was why when it was roasted chicken day at school, I brought my lunch. Had I been given forewarning, I would have brought a bagged lunch for this trip!

  • Eli H.

eh, had better but i served its purpose of feeding us right before we got on the train to the canyon. Get there an hour and a half before the train leaves otherwise you may not make the train at all. I would recommend the omelet bar in the morning if the line isn't long. Didn't go to lunch or dinner here but I cant imagine it being that great.

  • AC G.

We went the cafe as part of our tour to the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely awful. The food is bland, think unseasoned hamburger patties floating in a tub. After being seated and getting our first drinks, no one ever came back and acknowledged us again. No refills here! I would not go back & absolutely would not recommend.

    (1)
  • Nancy S.

Really glad I didn't have to pay for this meal! The salad and soup were okay, but the ribs were covered with ketchup flavored barbecue sauce and the beef pot pie had no beef and only a couple pieces of vegetable in a clear -- not beef -- stock.

read my review and the answer on trip advisor about this place. nice looking tourist trap. the waitress confirmed for me that everything is out of a can or frozen. what kind of a buffet. the manager, answered me and made excuses for there poor food

Good breakfast buffet. After all it is Williams Arizona, not Vegas.. Service is excellent, the restaurant decor pleasing. I will go back if I do the Grand Canyon package again.

  • Monica C.

If your looking for a cheap buffet this would be the place to go. My lover and I paid $26 for two all you can eat breakfast buffet. The food was delicious and fresh. Only issue is the servers take forever and aren't around when you need something.

    (3)
  • Joseph P.

We ate here 4 times because we had a package with the hotel. I was expecting something akin to the Old Country Buffet, but this was more like a Mothers Day Buffet at an upscale suburban hotel. The only sore point is that when busy, the servers may be distracted by others, but ours were all friendly and very good. The food has been upped a lot compared to earlier reviews, as we found it both high quality and imaginative. There is a made to order pasta bar at night and an omelette bar at breakfast. Both were first rate. Beverages are included and they serve a choice of 4 deserts that are not actually on the buffet.

Stopped here for lunch as part of a tour of the grand canyon, as such I can't comment on prices and value of the food. And it may be possible that the regular buffet offering is somewhat different. A small souvenir shop leads a large dining room, almost too large for the small size of the buffet. Our bus was the first there so we were seated promptly and didn't have to wait in the buffet line. The whole setup was organized and service was fine, considering it was limited to the delivery of drinks. Food was heavily texmex inspired and most dishes, with the exception of the Spanish rice and chicken were very tasty, a coke of casserole dishes and the potatoes with spinach and chorizo were my favorites. Dessert was limited to a small assortment of cookies and soft serve ice cream. Overall pretty good for what may be thought of by some as a"free" lunch.

Really bad food! As many others here - we ate here because it was part of our hotel package. Probably the only reason this place stays open. The selection isn't great - especially for a buffet. The food is bland to just bad. I thought perhaps at least I could get some dinner rolls to fill up on. Wrong! The 'assorted' bread basket consisted of two kinds - one that I think was a garlic sourdough - not sure. Smelled pretty bad. The other was rye bread! Who makes a rye bread roll??? We had our 10 year old granddaughter with us. Kids are picky and rye bread is not exactly everyone's favorite! Personally, I can't stand it! Would it hurt to have some plain old white bread?? Breakfast wasn't quite as horrible, but dinner was just not good. There are no a lot of choices in Williams, so don't know what else would have been better. I see a lot of poor reviews.

The only reason we are here was because it was included in out package to take the train to The Grand Canyon. The food was so ordinary and boring, I will never go again. Lousy!

Tonight's dinner was much better. Had the pasta bar where a cook makes a pasta sauce to your specification. Excellent.
