Fun! Definitely worth the trip.... Casual comfort for out of towners! Don't miss the burgers and shuffleboard! Thanks Denny for taking care of us!

Driving through Sedona and needed a quickie snack and a mommy drink. Great spot! Super inexpensive. Very friendly staff. ;)

My favorite dive bar in the world. Went there twice on a trip to Sedona, filled the void left in me after the closure of my two favorite Los Angeles bars. The patrons were entertaining and fun, the service made me feel at home. I had a pronounced sticker shock when I wished to pay my tab. It was cheaper than every place I know in L.A., and it wasn't even Happy Hour. Do they have a Happy Hour? Anyway, The Sundowner is one of the many reasons I love Sedona. Should be a landmark!

Awesome hole in the wall place. Amazing chicken wings and the sandwiches were great. Will definitely stop by again next time we're in Sedona.

Burger and brew. Was passing through town and took the advice of others here to try the place. Prices were right - the place is nothing fancy, with lots of "neighborhood folk" at the bar. Compared to the snooty places in downtown Sedona, this is a welcome change.

Best dive bar in AZ yet. My sister and I stopped here for burgers and beers after a day hike in Boynton Canyon. We were dusty, in our plaid shirts and cutoffs, and fit right in. Played some Waylon and Van Morrison on the juke box, and had some nice conversation with some of the day-drinking locals. The burger was tasty, and Rose was a sweetheart. We will be back!!!

this place is a locals based friendly bar. we should have gone here on our first night in Sedona, not our last. we met some friendly folks who were willing to give us advice on the do's and don'ts...just what we were looking for with our "untourist" approach to vacation. we were looking for Rose the bartender based on previous reviews but she wasn't in. food was nothing spectacular but fine. my husband took advantage of Taco Tuesday $1 per taco. everything was clean and tidy. 32 bucks for dinner for 2 and several drinks. We'd return to "the downer" for sure...we gave it 5 stars because it was what we expected and accurately represented on yelp.

  • Deb C.

Nice and friendly neighborhood bar. Rose makes the best whiskey gingers, along with telling stories about her fascinating life. We highly recommend this place. The steaks smelled great even though we didn't eat one. We came back for a second night too.

Last year I came here with some friends during a convention. We wanted a local bar and this was what I found on Yelp. The locals at the bar kindly ignored us and the waitress was awesome. The food was good but I remember the experience more.

Best bar we've been to! The atmosphere is so welcoming and fun! You can't go wrong here ever :) Rose is wonderful... Can't wait to go back. Plus they have free shuffleboard and live music!

  • David M.

Stopped in for some brews and a bit o' horseshoes. The horseshoes were fun, as was the deck filled with locals who were really nice. But we didn't experience any love from the bartender/owner(?). Might go back since it's about the most down-home place to drink in Sedona, but wouldn't bring the cub scout troop there . . .

  • Kelly B.

Authentic hole-in-the-wall local bar. It's ridiculously cheap for Sedona. You can go in just say "a beer please", and get a yellow Coor's can (sometimes this might be Budwiser). There is often only the bartender working and he/she will also cook your food on a grill in the back. The hamburger and fries were not fancy but solid grilled and fried food. Talk to the friendly locals, avoid those who look like they want to keep to themselves.

  • Brenda B.

Came here to try the hamburger, and was it awesome !, the bar was like an old school cheers, everybody knew everybody, and we all hung out and chatted. They don't take credit cards , so be prepared, they do have an ATM, tho.

  • Aaron S.

I have a soft spot in my heart for dive bars and this place fits the bill. Well worth a visit. Cold beer, shuffleboard and horseshoes. Rose has been slinging drinks at this spot for 20 years.

  • Jody B.

The best honest hamburger in Sedona!! Get the 1/3 lb with cheese. Comes with pickles onion lettuce and tomato and fries. Nothing fancy but damn satisfying !! Great service and great food!

  • Kalie F.

If you want a DIVE BAR..... this is it! they do not take credit card, they have an ATM machine, but it was out of service when we went. The beers are cheap.. no draft beer, all bottled or cans, the person that was working, was the bartender, and chef that day. we did not eat, just a few drinks, it was fun. there is horse shoes outside and we had fun out on the patio playing horseshoes with our friends. probably would not go back for food though, it looked a bit dirty, i mean it was a dive bar!

What an incredible place! Great people, friendly, and yummy fish tacos!!!! The only dive bar left here and they made me feel right at home!!!!

If you are from out of town and want to go to a local hangout, this is the place! This place has amazing American food ( burgers, chicken wings ect.) The staff is friendly and ready to have a good time! What a cozy place.. Don't miss out on a great mom and pops place hidden in the red rocks!!!

Fun and full of locals.....went on Christmas Eve and I thought I walked into another family's Christmas Party....good times....strong drinks and nice people....what more could you want????

Great welcome greeting. Loved the atmosphere listening to Roy Orbison and Joe Cocker on the juke box. Good burgers and onion rings. Happy Trails adieu. Good service and friendly kitchen staff. Recommended by Jenn from Red Jeep. We liked Red Jeep to.

OMG! What's not to love about this place? Fantastic burgers in a wonderful atmosphere!!!!! I haven't seen too many dive bars since moving to AZ three years ago but this place is the best!! BTW, everything you read here about Bertha is absolutely true! She made an absolutely memorable experience all that much better. DO NOT MISS EATING HERE!

  • Kathryn D.

Burgers to die for! Don't go unless Bertha's there to serve you! One of the most exceptional dining experiences ever! Ps. Bertha insisted on the bunny ears

Neighborhood bar. Full bar. Cash only. Small and a little divey but cozy too. Very good burgers. No fancy stuff here. Friendly to tourists. We will be back.

Standard in Sedona for 32 years. Owners still run the bar. Burger was amazing. Shuffleboard table. Don't see that often.

Burgers were really yummy. Special's menu had all yummy options. Wanted to try them all. Mac and cheese with bacon and green chilies was really good! Guacamole and bacon burger really good too! Would eat here again. Small little dive bar. Cold beer!! Little bar..did I mention little? But yummy food!!!!

Fabulous cheese steak at a terrific price, especially for Sedona. And Grand Funk Railroad on the jukebox!

Our short visit at the Sundowner was studious and pleasing. Being that this establishment was rated the top 5 dive bars in Arizona, I felt compelled to bring the squadron. Bertha, our bartender, was incredibly helpful in the selection of well drinks and cheap cans of beer. The kitchen was closed upon arrival. Being that we came partially expecting food, Bertha allowed us to order a pizza to her bar, which may have been the coolest thing a bartender has ever done. We played darts, shuffleboard and had a glorious time selecting Classic American Rock on the jukebox. Outside, they have horseshoes and a covered patio. As a dive bar connoisseur, I would highly suggest partaking in the awesome of The Sundowner if you are in Sedona. Great service and overall great experience. Thanks Bertha!

Great friendly down home service, top notch burgers cooked accurately as ordered and for a great price (incredibly so for Sedona), and the happy hour prices on beer are easy on the wallet. The food was great, the music was great, and the service was top notch and genuinely friendly. A+.

Great customer service and bar food. Will come back for drinks. We ordered the cheese crisp with Ortega chillis, not bad for $4.50. Cash only though!

Friendly customer service, delicious food. My group had burgers, grilled ham & cheese, and a chicken sandwich. No complaints from us! We will definitely come back.

Super friendly and attentive. I believe the chef took our order and it the food came out quick and hot. Burgers looked legit and my peeps seemed to enjoy them. I ordered the weekend special - 1/2 rack with baked potato and side salad. Ribs were good (for not having a smoker), tender and moist. Good sized plate for $15. Bottled beer but no tap. Not a deal breaker unless you have to have tap beer.

First of all the service is wonderful. Very small dive bar with great food. The guac burger was cooked perfectly and the homemade mac and cheese with green chili and bacon?......OMG. Top that with some great Bloody Mary's and we had a great great meal.

This place is really good!!! It looks questionable from the outside but go in because it's awesome. The staff is very friendly and prices are reasonable. Burgers are the best!

Awesome food and service. Great to get away from Sedona's tourist strip. Cash only. I has the guacamole bacon burger. I hear the mac n cheese is awesome.

We loved this place! Bertha was a great server/ bartender and Mark is an awesome cook. We ordered the Mac-n- cheese, ribs, and fish tacos. It was all amazing. If you want a non-touristy place to go to dinner - this is it!!

  • Michelle C.

You aren't going to find a place like this among the tourist shops of Sedona. We loved this local dive bar, not only for the patrons, but the incredibly friendly staff. This is the real Sedona and a breath of fresh air from the art galleries and tourist areas. We both had burgers, which hit the spot with a cold beer. Especially loved the bumper stickers on the bar walls, which were highly entertaining. See you on our next visit back to Sedona!

Craig if you want a dive bar then this is it. Fun games like horse shoes and shuffle board. True to what a dive bar would be. Good hamburger, good fries, nice staff(well one guy "the one man show"). Problem was mold on the inside of the salsa cap. Not sure what to do about that other than knock off a couple stars. Don't expect good food you will never forget ....unless you drink enough beer :)

It seems that, in recent years, "dive bar" has become code for "hipsters slumming and ironically drinking American lagers." This is not so in the case of The Sundowner. It's a true dive, with a crew of friendly locals who don't mind if you put Taylor Swift on the jukebox and dance around with your infant niece. The cook may come out of the kitchen to apologize that the caramelized onions on the patty melt are not quite as caramelized as he would have liked. There's a lot of wood paneling, and they only take cash. In short, it's a happy example of a vanishing breed.

Hands down the best bar in sedona!!! Great ppl and even better burgers!!! HIGHLY recommend this place to locals and visitors alike!

  • Russell M.

I've been here a handful of times over the years and I mostly agree with the other reviewers. The Sundowner makes a good back yard burger that is freshly made and imminently delicious. This is indeed a dive bar kind of place that is frequented by locals, especially contractors and their crews. Nothing fancy. Just an honest burger with a brew. They also offer some specials each week like Taco Tuesdays. Affordable and reliable. Decent value for the $

Small, friendly, inexpensive, not a chain... the only way every neighborhood bar should be. Got here too late (9pm) for the kitchen, so we'll back to try food next time. Really like this place.

You don't go here for the good, you go for the atmosphere. On our first visit here, we were treated like we've been going here our whole lives. The food is fine. But you are going to go here mostly to drink. Cool little place!

So my wife and I are traveling cross country and one of our stops lead us to being here in Sedona . I am a fan of dive bars so I figured wtf you know I'll try it. Well as usual when you first walk in you get the who are you you're not a local look. Expected. The lady was working the bar , the grill and the tables! Give her a break! She was nice but didn't speak much. The food came out quickly and was cooked exactly how my wife and I ordered it and was pretty good for the price! Our burgers were definitely the best we had had since California so that's saying something! They don't take credit cards so don't let that bite you in the ass they are however really good about telling you that as soon as you sit down.

Delicious food and great company. Have some drinks and get the burger. This place has a local feel to it, which is very refreshing in a tourist town.

Ate here Friday night and my husband and I each got the special. $15 for either prime rib or 1/2 rack ribs. Got a salad, potato, bread and desert (tiramisu). Drinks were a great price. Nothing on draft but they have great prices on drinks. You can even select your own music on the electronic juke box. Come here to kick back and relax. Very local aka non-tourist atmosphere.

Stopped in for a weekday lunch on a trip through AZ, after finding the reviews on Yelp. A few locals having lunch, watching Bonanza on TV. Limited menu but something for everyone. Very much enjoyed the hospitality, the food, the gigantic drink cups and the bumper stickers on the wall..

This bar is a good bar and the bartender Lynn was excellent. Exactly what we were hoping for.
