A friend of mine chose Sedona as a way to celebrate a big birthday milestone. I reviewed a number of options to stay including private homes through Air BNB and VRBO.com and ultimately landed on Briar Patch Inn. Upon arrival we were met by a mystical lush set against a babbling brook surrounded by the beautiful red rock that Sedona is known for. Already our expectations were blown. The Inn keeper met us with a smile, a personal note, and worry dolls to set under our pillow at night as we settled into our escape from the technological world. We roamed the grounds and happened upon peacefully placed hammocks, friendly sheep and literally had a butterfly bless our cabin the very first night there. Waking up the next morning took us further down the rabbit hole of this hidden gem when we were met with a beautiful breakfast spread and a LIVE string duet. We thought we might've found a little piece of heaven. No other part of the world existed except for where our imagination would carry us, and carry us it did. It carried us to sparkling watering holes, majestic panoramic views and unexplained energy points. Not only will we be coming back to Sedona to re-experience the enchantment that radiates from all parts of this quiet town, but we will be doing it at the Briar Patch Inn. There is something about that place that makes your soul smile and spirit soar and it's perfect for all ages.

I have somewhat mixed feelings after staying at the Briar Patch Inn. First and foremost, the staff is INCREDIBLE. They are so wonderfully friendly and helpful, some of the nicest people you want to meet. Another great point of this inn is that they serve breakfast every morning--and it's a fantastic breakfast of hard and soft-boiled eggs, oatmeal, quiche (which changes daily), fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, and muffins. It was a fantastic way to start your day on the right foot. They also serve cheeses, cookies, and hot cider in the afternoons (which was fabulous). The grounds are really quite pretty and there are a few resident sheep and also a small patio overlooking the nearby creek that goes by the property (which is really pretty). The cabins are all relatively private and quiet, so we didn't hear any noise during our stay. That said, I was surprised how rustic they were. This wasn't a bad thing, but I had thought given the cost of the facility, perhaps the bathrooms and kitchens would be upgraded with more lighting or nicer materials. Knowing this, I might have opted to find another place to stay that was slightly more modern. So that caught me somewhat off-guard. We stayed in the Robin cabin, and my husband is 6' so he could barely fit in the shower---I'm 5'6" and it was definitely a squeeze for me, too! Additionally, our toilet was placed in a smaller location which made me wonder how people who are larger would fare in that cabin. Not sure if some of the other cabins were like that, but I had hoped we would have a tub or another option for relaxation other than the fire. There are no TVs at Briar Patch (which we were pretty okay with) and you have all the wood you can burn! We were able to still have a nice, cozy Northern Minnesota-style Christmas down in sunny AZ, which was what we were after.

We recently visited Sedona for a week, and we decided to try two different places to stay. We stayed at Briar Patch Inn the first 4 nights in the cabin Wren. This was a magical little place that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's beautifully located in the woods, and this particular cabin is quite isolated on the corner, which is pleasant. The breakfast is delicious, and the scenery next to the creek while eating breakfast is even better. The décor in the cabin is delightfully bright in Southwest designs. There's not much to complain about, but the cabin could be updated a bit. The patio seating had no cushions, which I found strange as much as you want to sit outside with a glass of wine. The toiletries were most definitely lacking with the glycerin soap and built-in shampoo dispenser. I believe this could be improved. Other than that, this establishment is quaint, a perfect location, provides a lovely breakfast, and is a wonderful place to relax with beautiful scenery. I also enjoyed seeing the sheep on the property each day, Wooly and Lilly. When I return to Sedona, I would most definitely like to stay here again.

Unfortunately it rained our whole visit and was very cold and we were told we couldn't use fireplace, that was a bummer. And sadly bc of weather there wasn't much to do, not there fault. But it was cold and couldn't get heat in the bathroom. It was nice to sleep in the rain, beds were pretty comfortable even though place is pretty rustic. I wish breakfast went a little later, I like to sleep in and not rush on vacation. It was beautiful but maybe too rustic for me...

Amazing! Everything about Briar Patch exceeded our expectations. We stayed in Quail cabin and were very pleased...clean, cozy and quiet (the real woodstove was a treat!). Breakfast was lovely, but must say that I wish it was served earlier than 8am (which is the only reason this is not five stars). An earlier option, even if less food, would be great. Nevertheless, the food was delicious with plenty of options, but get there early or you'll be standing and waiting for people to 'decide' what they will eat when you are about to gnaw your arm off. We can't wait to return and will plan staying for a much longer time to soak in the river, the trees, the relaxing atmosphere of the Briar Patch Inn, plus there is so much more to explore in the hills of Sedona and outlying areas.

I just want to agree with all the positive comments. We had a really memorable three- day reunion stay in two separate cabins: my sister and her husband in Ivy and my brother and and husband and I in the two-bedroom Heron, both of which are delightful. Ivy is tucked in cleverly behind the main building and feels very cozy, and Heron is at the far end of the property farthest from everything (which means a lovely short walk along the road beside the creek and past the sheep.) The fires are laid and the fireplaces lovely, the breakfasts are wonderful and the entire outdoor ambiance is restful and just sublime. We'll go back.

I am so thankful I made the decision to visit Briar Patch, because it was such a fantastic and relaxing experience! First off, this is the most relaxing place that I have ever been. There is no wifi (except in the lodge during business hours), there is no TV in your room, and the only phone is a payphone. My cell phone got no service in this area whatsoever (ATT&T but Sprint did work). Briar Patch has a wide variety of books and magazines to read, and there is a CD player with local musicians CD's in the room. The fireplace was absolutely fantastic, especially on those chilly nights. They restock you with wood every day. There are so many lovely little spots to visit and sit and relax all about the property, including hammocks and seating areas by the creek. Grab a bottle of wine from the little store a half mile up the road, grab some cheese and crackers from the lodge, and find an area near the creek to relax and share a romantic moment with your loved one. The cabins themselves are huge and fully stocked (we stayed in "The Oak"). We had a full kitchen with lots of cooking utensils that allowed us to cook and not have to go into town. My favorite part of the experience was the personalization and dedication to customer service. They left a little note with our names wishing us a fantastic time, and it was such a nice thing to walk into. They also let us check in about two hours early. The breakfast was nice each morning. There was oatmeal, hard and soft boiled eggs, a different quiche each day, home baked bread, jams, fruit, yogurt, and muffins; all included with your room. We also had on-site massages from two wonderful ladies. We had our massages in the outdoor "Kiva" room because they were renovating the creek site massage hut... but we snuck a peak and boy does that massage hut look fantastic! Outdoor massages are great because you feel more connected with nature, and you get to hear the sounds of nature and birds chirping instead of ocean waves like you get at a spa. I can't wait to come back the next time I need some R&R!

We stayed here last valentines day! It has such charm and character. I forgot what cabin we were in but it was huge facing the creek. Had a nice fireplace, beautiful patio, and very sweet breakfast in the morning. Although it doesn't get phone service it's really quite nice because you have to disconnect to reconnect sometimes! Definitely recommend to everyone but especially couples!

I absolutely adore staying at the Briar Patch Inn. I've been here several times and have stayed in different cabins... I can't say I like one more than another, it's just the type of space you're looking for. The cabins are tucked in to a wonderfully landscaped setting with Oak Creek bordering on one side. There is a fantastic little seating area along the creek for meals, and then a little hidden spot which is perfect for drinking apple cider and enjoying the peacefulness of the river and surroundings. I love the little paths through the property and little seating areas and gardens, not to mention watching the sheep. The clubhouse is wonderfully rustic, along with all the cabins, and they serve a nice little breakfast. If you're looking for pancakes, bacon, potatoes, etc... get a cabin with a kitchenette and cook it yourself because you will have fresh fruit, yogurts, granola (amazing!!!), etc. Bring games, books, or portable DVD players for entertainment at night, because the cabins don't have televisions. Cell service is spotted throughout the property. You may or may not have it. The only complaint I have is the fact that there are no comfy cushiony sofas or chairs to sink into. The furniture they have is lodgepole with thin cusions-- and I personally think they're uncomfortable. I'd love to have a small leather loveseat to read in rather than sitting up straight on a futon.

I've visited the Briar Patch Inn and cannot wait to return! On both visits I stayed in the Creekside cabin and it is absolutely amazing! I found the cabin to be well-decorated in a cute rustic style, very clean, comfortable, and romantic. The sound of the creek flowing below is harmonious, and the outdoor fireplace is perfect for s'mores. Breakfast (both times) was absolutely AMAZING with a quiche to die for. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! You can choose to eat in the main lodge, take your meal to an outside lawn overlooking the creek, or take it back to your cabin. The small number of cabins makes the B&B very intimate and cozy, and the staff really tries to get to know you and meet your every need. You are secluded from the road, have a nearby swimming hole, and sheep graze in a small field. Happiness just oozes out of this place! Overall, the Briar Patch Inn is a wonderful place to stay with either a special someone or with a family group. The prices can be a little high, but it is well worth it! You can also keep an eye on their website or Groupon for specials. On a personal note - the Briar Patch Inn will always hold a special place in my heart as the place of my engagement! :)

My family went to the Briar Patch Inn last week and we enjoyed it so much. Every where you turn there is a photo op- it is so beautiful. The breakfast by the creek is amazing and so relaxing. We stayed in the Eagle and it was spacious and comfortable. Definitely recommend.

Adorable. The cabins are awesome-- we saw a few on our stay, and they were great. Comfy, spacious, and super clean. The whole place is so cool: trees and flowers, birds, squirrels everywhere, decks overlooking the creek, grills, even a couple of sheep. And let's talk about the breakfast: quiche, hard/soft boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, fresh bread/muffins, fruit, yogurt, and more, every morning. Plus cookies, coffee, tea, and cider all day. The service is unbeatable: I've never met such nice people. I would definitely stay here again.

My friend recommended me to stay here. I planned my 2 nights getaway in November. Delightful place, but very pricy. They have good cracker & cheese snacks with apple cider. Very helpful front desk staff. Secluded and next to a creek so its really nice to kick back and relax. The property is beautiful, close to nature, has wooden rockaby bench swings, a hammock, some sheep, ... lovely. Bring some chopped apples so you can feed the sheep. Keep your hands flat when you're feeding them. I liked star gazing on the hammock at night. They give you a blanket for outdoor use which is nice. Our cabin had a fire stove/ furnace thingy. took a few tries but it was a lot of fun. Gets warm really fast, but once the fire goes out it gets cold really fast too. I like going and listening to the creek. I would go back again.

I can't say enough good things about this place. It's an Arizona gem. The rooms are "comfortable rustic" (not fancy but perfect for a cabin in the woods type getaway). The brunch is simple but delicious and the table seating overlooking the creek is beautiful. On my stays there (about a year ago) brunch was accompanied by truly great live acoustic music that was perfect for the setting. Had the privilege to meet the owner who lives next door and understood why this place has the peaceful energy it has, which i think is an extension of her personality. I am regretfully taking away one star - which is hard to do - only because it is not pet friendly. But, if you don't mind leaving Fido at home, I really can't think of a better place to unwind for a weekend. Thanks Briar Patch.

Charming setting along Oak Creek. Didn't stay here but enjoyed a delightful brunch on a warm summer day with a friend on the way to the Grand Canyon.

If you are looking for rustic, quiet and TM lifestyle, here's your place. We were not. Although the staff was friendly at check-in, it is WAY over priced.really, $300 a night? I was expecting so, so much more for the money. Mother Nature was very evident at Briar Patch but then again, I wasn't paying her. Improvements could include but definitely not limited to: maybe two small bottles of water or even a small bottle of wine upon arrival? What about a deck of playing cards in a drawer, or a board game? Even checkers? I shouldn't have to leave my room for these items either. A few trips to a local thrift store in town and you could have something for every cabin. And how about a few books to read? Nothing heavy, maybe a romance, mystery or nice animal story? What about a decent chair or sofa to sit? The peeler log "sofas" were very uncomfortable, no back support until you hit the poles. And then there's the soap. Just because something is au naturale and cost three dollars for a sliver of something resembling soap doesn't make it soap. Didn't like that at all. I realize this is vegan territory, hard for us carnivores, but breakfast was way too lightweight for our tastes. I will say the coffee was good and nice large mugs. The music? Well they "tuned up" for almost an hour before playing and by then our breakfast was done. Are they a relative of the owner or something? Geez, all the CDs in the cabin, all eight of them, we're their recordings!! A little nepotism? Would have liked some Sinatra or even Placido to break up the Indian chant tunes. We won't be coming back and I wouldn't recommend it either unless you wait until the very last minute to find a reservation like I did, and then this is what you get. Mother Nature outdid herself in Sedona but I'll take Prescott, thank you very much.

First off, the breakfast was awesome. Buffett style, you can pick what you want and however much you want. Indoor and outdoor seating, you can sit and hear the creek. The owners/workers are extremely friendly. The grounds are beautiful and shady. There are mulitple cabins to choose from for 2 - 10 people. My only two problems: The beds are low quality and uncomfortable. Also, the website states they have "swimming holes" in the creek, but that is not the case. It is wayyy too rocky and shallow to even dip in.

  • Kelly B.

This place was amazing! A small collection of cabins nestled in the trees right along the Oak Creek. The cabin was immaculately cleaned and beautifully furnished. Every morning a delicious breakfast is served with quiche, fruit, fresh baked breads and more... and in the afternoons a snack of hot cider and cookies. The management and staff were so friendly and polite, they really made us feel welcome. The ONLY complaint I had were the beds. They were rock hard and I had an uncomfortable nights sleep. With that warning taken into account, I would recommend this place to anyone!

Stayed in the Tree Top room for two nights over a fall weekend. I was along for the ride with my friend who was on the first leg of a journey to start her life over. Briar Patch Inn is a good stop for that sort of a trip :)

Very charming little cabins scattered around 15 or so acres along Oak Creek. The water burbles in the background, the cliffs soar red and majestic above you, and the breakfast spread is really top notch. The price is almost as high as the surrounding red rocks, but I guess if you want a really nice Sedona experience, it's not cheap. As others have mentioned bring some sliced apples for the chubby sheep. Dip your toes in the creek (I really don't think you could swim in it) and take in some yoga on the lawn. Just be sure to snap out of your serenity while pulling out of the Briar Patch Inn onto 89A, since the great unwashed are driving like maniacs on their way to Sliderock. Look both ways and be careful.

Hubby and I stayed at the Briar Patch for a little 1st anniversary get away. What a great place! It was our first trip to Sedona, and I wouldn't think about staying any where else on our next trip. We had a lovely little cabin by the creek. It was quaint and clean. No TVs, no telephones, no sounds but the creek and the two resident sheep baa'ing occasionally. Breakfast is homemade and healthy, perfect fuel for a day of sightseeing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It's nothing glamourous. There's no room service, but if you're looking for a comfy, rustic getaway this is your place! I do kind of wish there was a bath tub so I could soak a bit, but the wood burning fireplace makes up for that. Oh, make sure to get a massage by the creek. Ahhhhh!

  • Shawnda M.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The babbling of Oak Creek while eating breakfast or enjoying a massage was magical. We stayed for five nights with our three children who were charmed by the resident sheep. The cabins are not luxurious but they have everything you need and are clean and comfortable. The grounds are completely enchanting! I look forward to returning again.

A heart-felt thank you to the Briar Patch Inn in Sedona, Arizona. From the moment we pulled into this sanctuary we were enveloped in it's magical, grounding peace. Every word, every pebble, feels like a gift given with intention. I entered this sacred space raw and yearning and left with healing peace. From a mourning mama with a husband and three adventurous little boys, you honored me and I will forever hold gratitude in my heart. One constructive note: The shower in Oriole cabin desperately needs to be upgraded. A garden hose behind the building might have been better.

There's a testimonial online that states "Paradise on Earth" for the Briar Patch Inn; this encapsulates the mystical place that we had the pleasure of resting our heads for 2 nights. We (my Mum & her best friend - both Australian, my boyfriend - Indian, my friend from Austria and my friend from California) arrived in the dead of night after an afternoon at the Grand Canyon. Even though it was close to midnight when we arrived we were able to easily find the Inn and were provided the keys to the Ponderosa cabin. It was a muggy June evening, so to be welcomed by air-conditioning once crossing the threshold was a godsend. As I walked around the cabin, settling in, I was struck by the influence of Native American/Sedonaesqe decor. There were gorgeous materials on the wall, comfortable leather couches and unique items dotted throughout. I glanced at the gorgeous table that could seat 8-10 people and right in the middle was a welcome note with a worry doll box on it. What a thoughtful gift! (I think this was particularly needed for some in our party after driving from Grand Canyon to Sedona late at night.... but, that's another story) Waking up the next morning was a delight; from the view in my room overlooking the gorgeous Sedona hinterland, to the expansive (breathtaking!) view of the Arizona landscape on the balcony, everywhere I turned I was impressed. Inside the house the view during the day shed new light on the accommodation. The kitchen was large and filled with sunlight, the house was clean and welcoming (with board games to boot!), the bedrooms were sized well and there was plenty of space for a large group + all our luggage. Breakfast was provided every morning, and what a breakfast it was! Fruit salad, pastries, quiche, coffee, tea, jams, juices and the list goes on. Not only was the breakfast itself impressive, but the dining area was one for the history books. I'd read before coming to Briar Patch Inn that it there was creekside seating, however, I thought that was for the swimming hole or for those who wanted to do a little adventuring. The dining area itself was next to the creekside, and what a joy it was to eat breakfast next to a creek every morning, the sounds of the running water washing away all negative thoughts preparing you for a day filled with adventure, relaxation or mysticism (Sedona has all 3 options). Breakfast isn't the only option next to the creek, there is a gorgeous massage room that is available for those needing even more of a wind down (me!). I had the pleasure of utilizing this service and what a pleasure it was! The woman they contracted out (I can't remember her name...) was experienced and was able to provide a thoroughly relaxing time. There's also swimming hole next to the creek and the path that leads up to the swimming hole has a little sheep enclosure and a gorgeous area with hammocks and totem poles. We stayed up late in the hammocks one night and just watched the stars in the night sky. Overall I would give this place 9.5/10. The only thing that I could see that could need improvement is little updates in the bathroom amenities (in the cabins) and whole house cooling/heating rather than the small air-conditioning units in each of the rooms. Thanks to Rob and the team for providing a wonderful experience. See Hear Speak No Evil - danyellekelly.com

I wish a world existed where I had no commitments or obligations other than simply living year round at The Briar Patch Inn. Friendly staff, homemade and thoughtful breakfasts and beautiful grounds running alongside the subtly rippling Oak Creek. I was secretly glad the Sedona Marathon was cancelled when I visited because I thought, 'this means I can stay at Briar Patch and just read beside the fire and walk around!' The Briar Patch Inn is almost synonymous with The Shire in that it's secluded, lush in foliage and seemingly comprised of jovial, congenial hobbits. When we walked into the office to check in I half expected someone to be perched on one of the wooden tables, shouting, "Today is my one hundred and eleventh birthday!" I really hope to return to The Briar Patch Inn. I know I'd like to see it . . . one last time . . .

I just returned to the Briar Patch Inn after my first visit several years ago this past weekend. It was as wonderful as I remembered it. If you are looking for a gorgeous place for rest and relaxation away from computers, phones, wi-fi, tv and noise, this is your place. These are rustic cabins right on Oak Creek. We stayed in Creekside where we could hear the rushing of Oak Creek as we sat on our patio and as we played Scrabble in our living room. The breakfast is excellent and is included in the price of the room. The beds are comfortable, and we found the kitchen well stocked enough with pots, pans and utensils to make ourselves a really nice meal the first night we were there. The grounds are beautiful and well tended. So why, you may ask, only four stars? The rooms could use some upgrading. They haven't changed one bit in the years between when I was there the first time and now, and for what you are getting the price is pretty steep. Also, there was a marked difference in the desk staff and the way they interacted with the guests. The woman who was there the day we checked in and the next day was super helpful and accommodating. She helped us find a Scabble board and a deck of cards, gave me a breakfast recipe and asked if we wanted our room serviced while we ate breakfast. The woman at the desk the last morning we were there asked everyone which room they were in (almost as if her intention was to make sure no one was stealing breakfast) and when I asked for a recipe she told me to buy the book they had for sale (which I didn't really want). When I explained that the person the prior morning had given me a copy of a recipe she said, "well we really don't do that anymore but I can look." It was just a totally different way of being treated and when you are spending close to $400 per night--I expect the former not the latter treatment. All in all this is the place to go if you want a special setting near Sedona and you are looking for something that is unusual, beautiful and dedicated to relaxation.

Ahhhhh!
