While driving from San Francisco, California to Skull Valley, Arizona, you have to stop sometime, even if the rental is packed with snacks. Needing a break, we stopped in Kingman at the El Palacio. It was mid afternoon, it was quiet with several other tables filled. Nice atmosphere, and the wait staff was very nice, and fairly attentive. The brought chips, two types of salsa, and a veggie bean dip. We are vegetarian, and there were several offerings to choose from. We both were drawn to the vegetable plate, and it was very good, a perfect lunch while on the road. I would stop here again, maybe on the way home!

Stopped here while on a road trip from Seattle to Mississippi-great little spot! Really good bean dip with the free chips and two salsas. Delicious marinated chicken on the fajita salad. I definitely recommend.

Big portions, I was pleasantly surprised. After a day of driving I was feeling fairly spent, luckily this remote Arizona town had an above adequate (American) Mexican style eatery around. In any other location I would give this place a solid 3 stars, but due to the interesting location and famished mindset one is likely to enter this establishment with, they edge their way into the "good" restaurant territory.

Killer mexican joint on Route 66, south of Vegas and just east of the Mojave Desert. Portions are large, staff is friendly. Nice desserts- try the Frutitas, "Wonton skins filled with strawberries, coconut and cinnamon apple then deep fried and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar." 8 for $2.75!! Bargain! According to their website they do not take reservations on weekends. I'm not sure why, but don't worry they have plenty of seats. You can also eat in the bar.

Good Mexican place in Kingman. Good atmosphere. My Dad really loved it.

great combos and wonderful salsas. full bar too!

Happened upon this place by accident. Great hot sauce, chile rellanos were good but weird, covered with a sweet tomato sauce instead of enchilada sauce. Quite busy on weekends, serves lots of margaritas but also carries Negro Modelo.

If I lived in Kingman, el Palicio would be a place I'd eat on a regular basis, as it is, I look to stopping here every couple years. Great food, friendly service, margaritas with a kick. Try the spinach enchiladas or the chile rellano or chili Verde... I can't wait to come here again and try something new.

Good authentic Mexican food with vegetarian options as well as traditional fare. Good for large groups as well. Great service. The veggie burrito was very big & the avocados fresh. Salsa was picante without overpowering all the other flavored.

I need to preface this by saying I'm from San Francisco and have lived in San Diego so I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob. The food here was okay - I got the Mexican flag but it was a bit on the salty side. It felt a little bit more of a Tex-mex kinda place than an authentic Mexican place but that also seems in line with at they're going for. On the plus side, the atmosphere is unique/quirky and the waiter was very nice and very accommodating. I would come again for the service, not sure about the food - the free chips and bean dip were pretty good however. There's ample parking in front along Andy Devine and it's super close to Route 66.

Having lived in Los Angeles for a long time, I admit I'm a bit skeptical of Mexican restaurants in small towns. The food at El Palacio doesn't taste like the Mexican food you find in California (or in Mexico, for that matter) -- it's more like what I thought Mexican food was before I moved out west. (Think hard shell tacos with shredded iceberg lettuce and yellow cheddar cheese.) The prices are a bit high for what you get -- platters are around $12 - $13, though you can find dishes around $10. It's nothing special, and the service was slow and not very attentive. But the atmosphere is nice, the portions are big, and the food is pretty tasty! I ordered an empanada, which was massive -- it costs $5 and takes up a whole small plate -- and unlike any empanada I've had before: it's filled with pork, green chili, and pickled veggies, in a big flour tortilla that tastes crispy like it's been lightly pan-fried. Sort of a cross between an empanada and a quesadilla-- odd but surprisingly tasty. My guy got the "Mexican flag" enchiladas. The beef enchilada was only okay, but the chicken and pork enchiladas were good. They start of the meal with chips and three kinds of salsa or dip; the salsas were okay, and the bean dip was the best one of the bunch. I wouldn't rush back to El Palacio any time soon, and would try another restaurant if I were passing through Kingman again. But it's decent Americanized Mexican food, and I wasn't disappointed with my meal.

The best Mexican food. Amazing service. Loved the food!!!! It's a good place to stop for dinner or lunch while u r driving from Vegas to Phoenix as it right in between two cities. Great taste for reasonable price.

Great service, excellent complimentary bean dip and fruitita dessert. Food and Happy House Margarita hit the spot!! This place is a winner in Kingman, Az!

We had lunch here Friday 02/06/15 around 1 pm . When you arrive you get a basket of chips, 2 types of salsa and a bowl of the best refried beans you will ever have . My boyfriend and I ordered the same thing , 3 mini tacos (I got shredded beef and he got chicken) and a cheese enchilada . My shredded beef was so tasty , it was mixed with onion and green peppers. The taco shells were fried to a perfect crips , and the cheese enchilada was perfect. The best part was at the end when they bring you the check, they also bring you a small dish of fruitas. These fruitas are wonton skins filled with strawberry fruit preserve , deep fried and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, and served with whipped cream .. Soooooo yummy !!! Next time I'm going to order this after the meal just so I can have a plate of them to myself

We stopped here on our way to Vegas hopping for a quick yummy meal. That's exactly what we got! The service was excellent. The hot salsa was one of the best we have ever had. Every thing was fresh and authentic. We will definitely eat there again when we are in the area.

Absolutely fantastic! Food and service were both outstanding. Judy was really awesome and provided prompt and friendly service!

  • Tanya M.

This was our second choice in Kingman, but it is where we will return. As many others have stated, the chips, salsas and BEAN DIP were very good. We had the mini chimichangas that were not mini! They were very good. Worth stopping here for a meal.

Great Mexican food, a must for travelers passing through Kingman Arizona. You will find colorful atmosphere, friendly service, great margaritas. This wonderful place. A little off route 40. On the old Route 66 - Andy Devine Ave. The margaritas are worth the stop alone. Very reasonable pricing.

El Palacio is a gem. This is the perfect place to grab a quick & good Tex Mex meal to break up a horrid drive between Vegas and Phoenix. The portions are big, the prices are low, the service is fast, and the menu is giant - like the most options I've ever seen at a Mexican food place. I so wish there was an El Palacio near my home. I had the Enchilada Salad which is a genius idea (a sliced up cheese enchilada on some lettuce with more cheese, avocado, salsa, and sour cream) and it was so satisfying. This certainly is not the healthiest food, but after Vegas and traffic on that long drive back home, it really hits the spot. My husband had the Chicken Enchiladas combo which came with rice and beans, and liked it. The free chips, salsa, dip and mini churro dessert was such a nice touch.

    (5)
  • Ee Vonn Y.

The chips and dip are the best. The salsa, the spicy sauce, and the refried bean dip are all complimentary and will fill you up so fast. The La Sunrisa margarita was tasty, satisfying, and served in a wonderful cute little glass with a cactus shaped handle. We ordered the Godfather Burrito to split. We couldn't finish the delicious burrito and had to be rolled to our car. The interior of the restaurant is visually fun, adorable, and touristy. The tables are full of color.

  • Hap W.

Personally i woudlve given it a four because there enchaladas where very good but my dad thought the chicken on his food was dry and too many peppers. Service was o k but i think she was running the whole place. Good bean dip but this place loves there spice. But there pretty good on getting some spice out if u ask. Overall it was satisfying. If u have an rv parking could be a puzzle vut u should be alright.

I was visiting my grandma in town and we stopped to eat here, I was so pleasantly surprised! The ceviche was so delicious! And my mom got the shrimp salad and the shrimp were huge and flavorful!! I definitely will come back here when visiting my grandma. And they're open on Sunday!

Good place to stop for a bite just off the highway to Vegas. Chose to have a vegetarian Mexican meal:Chili Relleno, spinach enchilada with beans & rice. My husband had Chicken Chimichanga and it was done right.. With beans and rice. A better alternative for a pit stop than burgers and fries.

  • Laura B.

We sat at the bar for awhile and never got acknowledged one. The bartender looked at us three times, and when we finally got up to leave he said he would be with us in a minute as we were walking out the door. Disgusting service.

    (1)
  • Amberina D.

I love this place! The beef chimichanga is pure magic there! Whenever we are in town, we always try and make a pit stop here! The salsa is fantastic and the house margarita is delicious! We will of course be back!!

    (5)
  • Ric E.

Oh my. I don't know where to start. From their bland salsa to their overcooked steak fajitas or to the dilapidated salad that I had that was pretty much just slime. This is one of the worst interpretations of mexican food I've ever eaten. Aside from that, the service was horrible. I sat there for 20 mins extra waiting for my tortillas and when they did show up, they were corn! The beef was so overcooked it might have well been jerky, however; jerky is edible. THis was just horrid.

    (2)
  • Bridget A.

Let me start with how AMAZING our waitress was. She was on her A game. Never did we run out of drinks and we got everything really quick. She was also very friendly and attentive. My margarita was absolutely delicious. One of the top tastiest ones I have had. Then the beans and salsas that come with the chips are soooo addicting and the best beans I have had other than my mom's. I ordered a veggie fajita burrito and it was HUGE. The veggies were charbroiled to perfection. Did I mention the TASTY beans!? Oh so good!! I really loved this place. Will definitely be coming back.

  • Lynn m.

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants! Very authentic food. They start off with chips and an array of salsa. The service is in incredible and food is fast and fresh! They end the meal with a dessert frittata with whip cream for everybody!!! The only reason they get a 4 was because we had to hunt down our own silverware and napkins because they kept forgetting, but otherwise, everyone is very nice :)

    (4)
  • Jim O.

Real good chimichanga and a pretty rockin' Cadillac margarita. Go for the food, not the ambiance.

  • Cathy B.

Good service, great food exceptional service. Our servers name was Heather. Our dinner was great. So much food had to get a go box. Salad was fresh.

  • John E.

My wife and I stopped in while we were visiting Kingman. We use Yelp while we're on the road to find good restaurants. So I want to warn any travelers to stay away from this place. This was the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. My wife's salad had wilted lettuce and the chicken was flavorless with the exception of being extremely salty. I had an open face fajita sandwich which was served on a hamburger bun! The peppers and onions were under cooked and the whole meal lacked flavor. The chips were good and so was the bean dip. I'm glad we were hungry because we ate to many chips and dip before our meal arrived. The server was nice. Overall this is a must pass.

    (1)
  • Paul A.

Very good food. The bean dip and salsa were great on the genuine masa corn chips. We enjoyed the chips and dip with a good pina colada. Mole poblano was flavorful and our machaca enchilada was good. The mexican decor is well done. The exterior of the building is rather humble but inside great things are happening. The place was packed so the staff was in high gear. They did a good job.

Love El Palacio! We have Ben going here for years! It's reasonable and Authentic Mexican food! Great lunch specials!

  • S K.

Great pit stop on Route 66! :) Lunch specials were great (enchiladas and enchilada salad). Best part was that they kept coming with chips and stuff to scoop (pico, beans, etc) and gave us warm mini churros at the end!! I love free stuff, especially when it's delicious. Ambiance is cool, too!

  • Tara H.

This place is good for families that want a lot of food for cheap. The portions are huge, but I wouldn't come here craving a really flavorful meal. Kinda bland.

  • Jesse R.

When first walking in we knew we made a good decision because thus far on my business trip to Kingman every place had been empty and this place was full and seemingly of locals. Despite the good reviews I remained skeptical but was pleasantly surprised. The food we ordered was quick to arrive and delicious. My girlfriend had the diced steak burrito. The steak was flavorful and the chunks of avacado were literally big chunks. I had pork tacos and they were also fantastic. The pork was marinated perfectly. HUGE PORTIONS so beware if you have a small stomach. Only complaint was our seating was right by the bathroom doors.

  • Misty F.

You can order margaritas that are the size of your head! The bean dip that comes with the chips and salsa is totally awesome. They also have some great lunch specials so you can enjoy this place on a budget. At the end of the meal, they give you a little sweet treat. I forget what they are called but I always forget about them until they drop them off at the table. It is always such a nice thing to get them, a cherry on the top of a great meal.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant hands down! Great salsa's/bean dip and always fresh and well prepared main dishes.

Every time my husband and I are in town we make sure to go here at least once, if not twice on our visits. There really isn't much more to say other than this is fantastic AZ Mexican food.

The food was tasty. The service was decent. There was a lot to pick from on the menu.

  • Andrew C.

I always walk in here and want to dislike the place. The cheesy decor, the over the top stereotypical Mexican dude singing happy birthday to the large tables, all the white servers who can't pronounce a single damn thing on the Americanized (is that even a word?) menu. This time around I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail. Look at that damn thing, fancy cup, celery on it and ... Goddammit it's delicious! Seriously, it is. Usual stuff on the menu, done a little bit differently and all very good. All four us enjoyed our main dish. I had the Carne Asada, it's not perfect but Mexican food is not supposed to be. It's fresh, came with a pretty good chile relleno and even though it looked small, was very filing. Also the blended or on the rocks margaritas are awesome here. Strong, like a backyard margarita should be. And see, that's problem with El Palacio. I can cook all of this myself, probably even better but I like coming here. I don't have to clean up and it is always good, like it would be at home. Yes, I'll be back.

    (4)
  • David B.

Great bean dip and salsa! Very sizable servings, enough to take home leftovers for another meal. Nice decor, friendly service. Worth stopping for!

  • Adam B.

This place was awesome. I mean, you just don't get better Mexican food out in the middle of nowhere. My wife and I were on out way to Denver in a budget truck, and we took a chance on this place thanks to yelp. Service was EPIC. We were seated, served, and paid up in like 15 minutes time which was great because we were in a hurry. It was quicker than a formula 1 pit stop. Lady was super nice too. El palacio lived up to its name.

  • JJ G.

First time in Kingman and first time for El Palacio's. After reading the reviews and being referred by our hotel, we decided it looked like the best choice for Mexican Food. It was awesome! We are very picky and this was really good. Our waitress Kathleen was fantastic! She was friendly and sweet! Kathleen if you ever read this.....thanks for making us first timers so welcome...we'll be back! Jack and Jackie :-). Best news....we read there is one in Chandler, AZ......we'll give that a try too!

  • Jon T.

I can think of only three reasons why anyone would give a negative review to this restaurant: 1. they were having the absolute worst day of their life, 2. they had the most incredibly bad luck of their life, or 3. they own the Wendy's down the street. Three kinds of dip with your chips? A huge menu with great food, very generous portions, and incredibly reasonable prices? A complimentary sweet treat at the end of your meal? And even sweeter service?Does your hometown Mexican restaurant offer you all that? Even the Mariachi music was high-quality. Don't believe the grumps in the one or two negative reviews on this site. They probably got this place confused with the laundromat nearby.

    (5)
  • Deborah E.

For a small town, it was predictable fare. Large cheesy portions. Even the hot sauce was bland. I should have tried some alcohol. Staff was friendly. The one stall stinky bathroom without toilet paper made the two star questionable.

    (2)
  • Francie R.

Delicious food, very quick, lots of choices. The staff were very friendly and did a great job. We were driving by and saw the bright awnings. The inside is very cute, bright, and antique-y. It was fun watching the trains go by too. We would definitely come back!

Let me tell you, Midwestern states do NOT understand Mexican food (or whatever passes for it there). I was driving home to California after a month without having eaten any because, you see, I've eaten Midwest "Mex" before and I now avoid it like the plague. The gal at Hampton Inn recommended El Palacio and I couldn't be happier. Great food and great service by Lisa Marie. A terrific all-around experience!

A Little Santa Fe Railway, a Little Old Mexico, una Lonche Grande y Bueno Kingman is a place I've landed in for many reasons since I was five years old. Its a town built on railroads, mining, ranching, and traveling with a wide span of qualities in it's restaurants. There are several places I wouldn't eat again, and several I'd love to go to again. El Palacio is the place I stop the most. They start you with mild and hot salsa, a small bowl of refried bean dip and a basket of chips. The main courses and lunch specials do more than fill one up. This trip we had a ground beef burro enchilada style a fajita salad, and two monster ice teas. Kingman can get hot. Stay hydrated! The building was some kind of railroad related business built about 1900. The ceilings are about 14 feet high and original tin, the outside awnings keep the sun off the windows, the shading gives the place a great afternoon light showing off the stained and beveled glass of the dividing walls and lighting up the Mexican folk art and plastic plants on the walls. Background music is Mexican country and mariachi. I'm not a fan of ground beef Mexican food, but the bites I tried tasted good. The fajita salad had a tiny foundation of iceberg lettuce mounded with grilled chicken, red, yellow and green peppers and onions; a little fresh red cabbage for color, and excellent avocado for flavor. When it was all over but the lettuce, our waiter brought us 'fruititas.' Cooked apples in a soft fried cinnamon-dredged flour tortilla. About $20 for two of us, including tip. If you must hit the restroom before you hit the road, I've usually found it clean, neat and well supplied. I don't know when we'll get to some of those other good Kingman eateries.

The food here is not top notch Mexican food by any means..but it isn't horrible either. The prices are what keeps this place going. Good sized portions and ok food. I did have a burrito the last time I was there and it was awesome. A chile relleno stuffed inside of a burrito. Cheap little spot..if you want some cheap food it will do.

We usually have lunch here at least once when we visit Kingman (this is probably my Uncle's favorite restaurant - he lives here). The staff are always friendly and the food is good, although a little salty for my taste. Their salsas are very good and we always enjoy the bean dip. Worth a visit.

Wow. This place is authentic and very special. We were passing through and stopped in. Amazing all the way through. Great lunch special prices including happy hour drinks. And the churros! Wow.

My husband and I stopped here while driving from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, as part of a southwestern road trip that we were taking. I had found this place (through Yelp, I'm sure) while doing research before the trip. It was exactly what we were looking for -- quick & casual Mexican comfort food. We really liked the salsas and bean dip that they brought with the chips. I had a lunch-sized taco salad which came in a crispy tortilla shell bowl, which was simple but good. Oh, and they gave a little free dessert morsel at the end of the meal, which was cute. The staff was nice the place was decorated cute. If you're passing through, it's a good choice!

Worth the drive off of I-40 east and you don't want another drive-thru meal! Had the taco and tamale (Fantastico) lunch special for only 6.50! Chips, salsa and yummy bean dip included. Great service! Busy at 230 on a Friday afternoon. ASK for the spicy salsa, the house was too mild for us.

    (4)
  • Courtney A.

Stopped on my way to Phoenix. Very fast service and yummy food! Chips, salsa, and drinks were on our table in the first two mins I was there. Both salsas and bean dip were very good and chips were hot. My friend and I both got the Mexican Flag lunch special of three enchiladas. Tasty, not too heavy. They even gave us this free little fried fruit dessert thing with whipped cream. Yum! Worth the stop. I was starving and this hit the spot.

Based on Heather C's review I decided to stop for lunch on my way back from Vegas last time. I had actually driven right by it a couple of times and had also eaten their Bullhead city restaurant. The weather outside was damp and windy but inside the place was warm and full of people enjoying lunch. The dining room layout is a little weird, I think it is because it is a restored historic building on Rte 66. I had chips and salsa and bean dip brought to the table as soon as I sat down. For lunch I had a chicken/cheese flauta and a cheese enchilada, one of their lunch specials. I felt like a beer but was driving so I had an O'Douls. The food was pretty good as was the service. With tip I was out of there for about $10. Definitely worth the short detour away from the chains on the Interstate.

  • Amy S.

We love this place! It's a must go!!! Everything is delicious! If you like enchiladas try the Mexican Flag. It gives you three different ones to try. The bean dip is awesome!

    (5)
  • David M.

Very average Mexican food that comes down on the heavy side. The salsa was pretty tasteless. The bean dip was just OK. Had the carnitas plate. Maybe it was the end of the day, but the carnitas arrived as a pile of meat moosh. Sort of flavorful not the right consistency. The rice was dry. Beats most of the chain places on Route 66 but I'll try another restaurant next time I'm in Kingman The servers are very friendly, hard working and efficient.

Had a terrific lunch at El Palacio. Fun place in a great location. Worth the mile drive from the interstate just to see the downtown area along old Rte. 66. Some really nice lunch specials. I had the spinach enchiladas, which is something I'm not used to seeing on a tex mex menu. Excellent stuff. In fact, they have several menu items that are light and well vegetated, rather than the heavy meat and cheese fare with which I'm more familiar. Great soups and more. Of course, the key marker of the mettle of a TexMex joint is the complimentary salsa. They served the good stuff and the guac was also very nice. Clean restrooms and friendly service with nice food served quickly at good prices. Nothing more could be expected.

Great food, excellent service.... Very accommodating to our requests as we don't eat meat. Our host Sharon was very lovely and warm. Oh and desserts were on the house!! Wish we could come here again but home is too far

A pleasant surprise to a weary traveller. Great food, quick service and a pleasant atmosphere. Right across the street from the old railroad depot, a great place to watch trains roll by and enjoy a beer.

On the way home from Utah and needed a place for lunch/dinner. Loped real promising indoors. Salsas good and the spicy one is spicy! Enjoyed the bean dip. Had th spinach veggie enchiladas. They tasted fine but were too soft and overcooked. My wife's taco salad was big but mostly iceberg. Worst we're the VERY aggressive flies. Will try to find somewhere else next time through that way.

Perfect place to stop between Vegas and the Canyon. The service was quick and friendly, the food was great...endless chips and salsa, plus little (free) churros for dessert! I'd come back if I were to pass through Kingman again!

  • Carne A.

BEST CARNITAS IN WORLD!!!! This place was absolutely amazing. They actually have hot salsa that is hot. High-quality food with excellent service and authenticity that I was impressed with. The carnitas are to die for!!! You won't be disappointed!!

  • Calleigh H.

If I lived in this area, I would definitely be a regular. I have to agree with the other Yelpers, the chips and bean dip were fabulous. The salsa seemed to lack flavor, though. The food was great and came just the way we ordered it. It seemed to take a little longer than what we expected, since it wasn't too busy. The kids enjoyed there meals, even my picky eater. The prices were reasonable. The kids meals were each under $5. Serviced seemed to lack a bit....our waitress half way through said she was done with her shift and was leaving us in the hands of another waitress (who was better). But then our first waitress started waiting on other tables...makes us wonder if we did something wrong. Not sure. The decor needs to be updated, but who cares if the food is great!!

  • Adam B.

I really like this place. I have always gotten good food and service. I REALLY like the fact they bring the chips salsa and beans while you are waiting.. It helps with the wait time.. which could be my only complaint. At times the service can be a little slow when there are large groups.. but that is understandable. I have never been disappointed ordering anything off of the menu that is marked as a "Specialty" I have probably been here 20 times over the years. It is always good .

In the aftermath of Thanksgiving, I was keenly aware of how thankful I am to live where there are more than a handful of decent restaurants. Sadly, Kingman is not one of those places. Instead it is a mecca for every fast food restaurant imaginable. In fact, there was once a letter to the editor of the local paper from a resident who observed the abundance of women in town that are seen in public with no makeup, unkempt hair, and no clothing requiring a button, snap, or zipper. One outraged woman responded, "it's our heritage to look this way." Well I guess that explains the success of the fast food industry here. El Palacio is one of the few bright stars in Kingman. It's managed to stay open for well over a decade I'm sure. The food is consistently good, not great, but good. Chips are served with a hot sauce (not too hot), a mild salsa, and a bean dip. On my last visit I had the lunch special of a chicken and cheese flauta (although I prefer corn, they are made with flour tortillas) and a tamale. Both were tasty. This restaurant stays busy, but has a decent seating capacity, so there's usually not too much of a wait. In a town with few options, most of which are good one trip, terrible the next, El Palacio is one of my go-to places when I make that yearly trip to experience all that Kingman and it's heritage have to offer. A solid 3 stars, 4 when you consider the alternatives.

It was a lazy Sunday and a couple of friends and I needed some fuel for the long trip ahead. We were coming back from a Las Vegas-Grand Canyon trip and El Palacio just so happened to be the closest Mexican joint near our first rest stop. It was really cheap and yummy. Check it out if you're near by.

I've never had good Mexican food outside California state borders (other than Mexico). Thus, I didn't have particularly high expectations upon eating here. The two salsas were decent and I especially liked how they were served with refried beans. For my entree I ordered one chile relleno and one enchilada filled with shredded beef seasoned with onions and peppers ( yelp.com/biz_photos/1tlA… ). The enchilada was alright, but the Chile reline was not worth eating. My search continues.

Palacio has been in Kingman for a long time. They also have a sister property (buzz word) in Laughlin and Bullhead City. "El-P" (what the non-locals call it) has something that I can't find between Kingman and Las Vegas. No, it's not authentic food. No, it's not great service. No, it's not exciting atmosphere (unless you consider the train rattling the windows out front atmosphere). It's VALUE. I don't have the specifics, nor do I care to, but the Lunch specials are great. Several beers and margarita specials for $1.50 each, a few special priced menu items priced from $2-$4. This means that you can actually have a beer and lunch for about $7 with a tip. Then again, you could go to the Sonic up the street and get a burger and fries for that. Got to love that car hop service. Wait a minute, what am I reviewing.. oh, El Palacio. Yeah, I'll take the Pacifico and Chile Relleno (good choice, best in the area) for $7. I should mention that this place has a AWESOME new paint job. This place is now YELLOW. The white paint made the place look like a Sonic. TIP: This wouldn't be a good first date spot. Or second. This is a 3rd date, maybe-I'll-keep-asking-you-out, or-never-call-you-again' location.

Like others have said before me, Kingman does not have many great dining options. El Palacio is a good place to meet up with friends and to get a decent meal for a good price. It was pretty busy on the Monday night I arrived. It seems like it's a local "hot spot." It has been years since I've been to Kingman, but I decided to make the trip to visit some friends. We met at El Palacio and never felt rushed. The server was friendly and efficient. Our drinks never went low. I ordered a basic bean and cheese burrito with beans and rice on the side. It was good, but you can't go wrong (or shouldn't) with that order. The salsa was a bit watery and runny. I prefer a bit more chunky. There were doors leading to the bathrooms and if you have to wait for someone, it can become quite uncomfortable because it's like you are waiting in a small room to get into the bathroom. Anyway, I don't recommend waiting if you can help it.

Dined here while staying overnight in Kingman. we had read reviews and the hotel clerk highly recommended this restaurant. The restaurant is located right across from the train depot which pleased my husband because he is a train buff and enjoys watching the trains go by. Chips and dip were served promptly and were quite delicious. Between us we ate chicken enchiladas, a taco and an empanada. All were very, very good. The empanada was not quite what we were used to, more like a soft tortilla folded over, but the pork chili colorado filling was very tasty. We both had green sauce on the enchiladas which was tasty, but it was the "greenest" green sauce I've ever seen. Not sure how they made that happen. As for the margauritas, I thought they were just average compared to many others I have drank across the country. All in all however, I recommend this restaurant for the yummy food.

One of the better Mexican food restaurants on the planet. Great iced tea!

Tried a few places in old town Kingman including El Palacio. Encouraged by the fact that around 2pm there were still a lot of tables of people for lunch. Ordering from the Chef's Specials, the Mexican Flag enchiladas were very good and nearly as good as Mexico City. The Tamale Extravaganza was too soggy for my taste but the waitress said ordering the sauce on the side would be better -- some people like it moister, but it was better without it. The cheese enchilada was bland -- they should include finely diced onions inside. The salsas and chips were fresh and delicious, the beer selection good, and the service was very good. Yup, you need to know a few tips on some of the dishes but it's worth learning more and I'll be going back for more.

This place gave me horrible stomach cramps followed by mud butt!! There is no worse feeling than the horrible feeling of dysentery setting in and having to go to the bathroom while sitting in Hoover Dam traffic! I had the Chile Colorado which was way too salty (my 1st clue) and the beans were funky! I am from L.A. and I have had bad and fantastic Mexican food but this takes the cake on bad.. In no way do I consider myself a Mexican cuisine aficionada... But I have had way better food from a roach coach... My first yelp disappointment.

Pretty good place off of Route 66. I'm not usually a fan of Mexican food; however, this place was a decent meal (big portions) with decent prices. The service is great; very fast and friendly. And I enjoyed that the salsa and chips (which must be home made as they were always warm when they came out). If you're looking for a decent place along Route 66, try out this place. It'll be worth your time and money.

Hot chips arrive promptly served with refried beans and 2 salsas. Menu is extensive - and with a road trip fatigued brain decisions were difficult to make. Settled on the Desert burrito with chicken - with green sauce on the side - waitress also brought us a side of the ranchero sauce. Both good. Also had the fiesta tostada with chicken. It's was good but burrito was better. Service friendly and open on Mondays. Prices were reasonable and portions filling We'd stop here again.

Sunday afternoon, road trip from Phoenix to Vegas and needing a break in Kingman, AZ. So glad we found this bright lime colored building on Route 66, called El Palacio. It was the only place in town that had cars all around, so we thought we'd check it out. Great casual atmosphere, clean, good waitress who cheerfully dropped chips, 2 salsas loaded with fresh veggies & beans at our table the minute we sat down. Despite the fact that they were packed "busy always busy in here" according to the waitress, we got our food & homemade margaritas (no green bottle mix here) in perfect time. I got the "Mexican flag" 3 tortillas red, white & green each stuffed with wonderful marinated meats & topped with a special sauces. My hubby got the "mini chimi" so good he later marveled at the fact that we have spent so much time trying to find good Mexican in Vegas, and the first place we pop into in AZ has it! So great we would take a road trip again just to eat here. Lunch & Margaritas each under $7.

There are not too many good restaurants in Kingman, but El Palacio is one good place to eat Mexican food. I tend to go with relatively plain food, so I generally stay with red chili burrito's at mexican food establishments (I know....boring!!). But, I went there with a co-worker who has a love for Mexican food, and they voted it to be excellent. The restaurant is in an interesting old building which looks out onto the railraod tracks running through Kingman. They also have a bar room as well if you are not interested in a table in the restaurant. Prices are cheap for this good quality food, and you can purchase burrito's and salsa to go. They are located in downtown Kingman, so if you are interested in walking around the area, there are plenty of shops to spend time in.

Food was a good value for what we paid. Cheaper than a fast food meal and better tasting.

If you're looking for a place to eat between Las Vegas and points East, or traveling along I-40, you could do a lot worse than this local southwestern greasy spoon. We found it by accident looking for the Harley store (there's a creepy abandoned rail depot across the street that poses as some kind of Harley museum, but it isn't it), and it was good, solid southwest cooking. I had a seemingly bottomless iced tea and a chile reieno wrapped (yes wrapped) in a burrito. So greasy, but so good. And cheap. Strongly recommended. (btw, the Harley store is across town)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
