    Decent food and very convenient if you are staying at the hotel. I had a pretty good prime rib the first night at a really good price since it was a special and included a starter and dessert. My husband liked the bread pudding which got good Yelp reviews - I'm not a huge fan of bread pudding. I had a strawberry shortcake...next time I think I'll save those extra calories for ice cream. Okay breakfast buffet. So-so chicken wrap for dinner the next day. Friendly wait staff.

    While staying at the Little America hotel, my mom and I decided to try their restaurant, the Western gold. We tried it for dinner the first night we arrived and then for breakfast the following morning. For dinner, I chose the roasted turkey meal since I am such a fan of Thanksgiving dinner. From what I can remember, everything was very good in this meal and I ate the entire thing. But what really sticks in my memory was the bread pudding. My mom had heard a lot about it so we decided to try it even though we never really had had good bread pudding. The bread pudding almost resembled cake and it had a bourbon sauce on top. This was the moment when I became a bread pudding fan and decided to try it at other restaurants. I can't really describe the taste. It was definitely lighter than cake and the sauce just had a very different but distinct flavor. I became addicted and couldn't stop eating it. It got to the point where my mom and I were fighting over the last bite! The next morning, we chose to have breakfast at the Western Gold. I am a huge fan also of eggs Benedict and am constantly searching for the next great eggs Benedict recipe. I have to say that the Benedict at the western was the best that I had ever had. I had it vegetarian with tomato and avocado which was spectacular. The hollandaise was light but creamy and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The muffin was toasted but was not too toasted. These three components (hollandaise, perfectly poached egg, and English muffin texture) are the key to having a great eggs Benedict. For being a hotel restaurant, I was very impressed!

    We ate here in 2006, so it may have changed, though I did notice some of the same items on their menu online, and after reading some other reviews, not much seems to have changed. On Saturday, May 27, 2006 at approximately 8:30 PM, my wife and I went to your "Fine Dining" restaurant. My wife is employed as a General Manager of Restaurant Operations at a major art museum in a major metro area, and we have never experienced such slow service, and bad food, in such a tacky restaurant claiming to be "Fine Dining" in the hundreds of places we've eaten, in all our lives. We ordered, and waited. We were there 45 minutes, and we still had no wine, no bread, and had finished our one glass of water without ice. We have never been to a restaurant where we received water with no ice, never offered a refill, nor received any bread in only our first few minutes there. We took the server's advice on wine, and when he finally got back, and opened it, we tasted it, and it was corked (bad). No, not just not to our liking, the wine was spoiled. The server said he would ask your sommelier, and left. He came back and apologized, admitting that the wine was spoiled. It's obvious you don't have the facilities to store wine under proper conditions. We ordered another, and in the meantime, were served our soup. Never in my life had I been brought soup before wine. This is not fine dining. We waited for our amuse-bouche, and appetizers. We still had not gotten, nor even offered, to have our water glasses filled, or offered any bread. We found the amuse-bouche of asparagus wrapped in proscuitto below average. The asparagus was obviously not fresh, the proscuitto too thickly cut, and dry. Meanwhile, we were entertained by your "Saturday Night Live" type lounge singer, and the pounding hip-hop music from the wedding reception next door. This is not fine dining. The shrimp cocktail--though you have another ridiculous name for it--was also dried out, and the pathetic jar cocktail sauce served with it was terrible. Fine dining restaurants do not serve anything from a jar, previously frozen, or canned. That is not fine dining. Then our server came back and apologized that he seemed to have lost our entrée orders, and could we repeat them for him. He attempted to repeat them, but got them incorrect. As far as the entrées, the lime and garlic mashed potatoes were totally tasteless, and had not one hint of either garlic nor lime. That's probably a good thing since lime and garlic are a ridiculous flavor combination. Speaking of poor flavor combinations, salmon with mango? Also, the prime rib was not hot, and the broccoli overcooked. Did you hire your "chef" from Sizzler? This is not fine dining. As time slowly ticked away, more people left, and other server's started to remove the candles and glasses from the empty tables. Again, another thing we've never seen in any real fine dining restaurant. You can't get more tacky than cleaning up while there are still patrons eating. This is not fine dining. Just because you throw around a couple of French culinary terms like amuse-bouche and sommelier, and charge exorbitant prices, does not give you the right to call yourself a fine dining restaurant. Perhaps you should call your place "Hoppin' Dan's Fancy Eatery" or something to that effect, because it is certainly NOT fine dining.

    The salmon tasted like a microwave dinner and the scallops were adorned with a "bright pink sauce" that looked like Pepto Bismol. Why? The waiter said he didn't know what it was, but was pretty sure the chefs used food dye. If you eat here out of sheer connivence, stick to the simpler things like burgers and such. Saving grace: a pretty good Mai Tai.

    After checking into the Little America Hotel, we wandered into their spacious dining room, the Western Gold Restaurant. We were promptly seated near the window by the friendly hostess. The dining room has lots of windows with pleasant views, a bar with several TVs, and a buffet table area. The Friday evening crowd was thin, although the bar area seemed popular -- the bartender was pretty, and March Madness was in full swing. Our waiter appeared immediately and greeted us warmly. He helpfully suggested some dining options, and had our drinks out immediately. I had the turkey dinner (a "House Favorite"), my son had fish & chips, and my wife ordered the chicken marsala. Our meals came out very quickly. My turkey dinner was excellent: the cornbread stuffing was well seasoned, the turkey was moist, and - I found this unusual - the vegetable sides were delicious. I've often found vegetable medleys to be a gratuitous addition to add color and balance to a plate, but rarely are they worth eating. Not so these, as I ate them all. The fish & chips were not heavily battered -- more like lightly seasoned -- and my son pronounced them as "pretty good, not the best, but pretty good considering we're miles from the coast." My wife's chicken marsala was just "okay", the chicken was tender, but the meal lacked flavor. Had there not been so many other dining options in Flagstaff, we'd have eaten here again over the course of our 4-day stay. The menu doesn't have a great deal of variation, so we tried other places for dinner. But this is a safe choice with good service and a beautiful venue.

    Indeed it is convenient if you are staying at the nice hotel. The staff are friendly but their food and management are not good. I ordered a medium-well cooked steak, which actually looked like a piece of coal when served. I then told the waiter that the steak is over cooked, she simply said "Oh, its too well done?" and walked away. After 8:30pm, the staffs were closing the restaurant and moving tables and chairs in front of all twenty customers still eating.......really weird place.

    The Sunday brunch here was really great. A bit pricey, but included unlimited coffee and juice. The dessert selection especially was impressive, including chocolate and regular creme brulee, bread pudding, and a ton of pies and cakes.

    This restaurant is horrible, the worst I have ever been to. My family and I went the on Christmas Day. Ordered 3 French onion soups 2 of the lobster bisque and a salad to start. Half an hour later we still didn't have utensils or bread but we saw people who entered in after us get all of these things as we tried to wait patiently. We finally had to ask for it to get it. Then we only got two french onion soups instead of everything we ordered initially. We had to ask about the rest of our order in order to get it. That was just the soups and salad. A whole 45 min. Our entrees came out cold and when we told them about our prime rib dinner being cold the waiter offered to microwave it!!!!! Since they ran out of prime rib. Unbelievable. He didn't offer another cut if meat but just have us an attitude and said he would just take it off the check since we didn't want it microwaved to get hot food. The pasta dish I ordered pasta al forno was supposed to have sweet italian sausage in it. I didn't get a single sausage. I went to talk to the manager and nothing was resolved. We didn't even get refills of our water and was never asked if the kids needed refills in their drinks. They ended up drinking out waters. We didn't even get the water even after we asked for the refills. I won't even set foot in the restaurant due to this horrible experience. Little america hotel is nice but this restaurant experience truly ruined Christmas dinner for us. I am so utterly disappointed. Had the restaurant showed some type of remorse or tried to make the experience better it might have been ok. But they didn't care about how they served you. The only thing we got without having to wait for or ask for iwas the check. I hate this restaurant and do not recommend it to anyone. EVER. Ended up having eat the snacks we brought afterward since our dinner was so terrible. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT.

    The buffet food looked gross but out of convenience we stayed and ordered off the menu. Once the food finally got to us it was very good and there was so much of it that it was cheeper for us doing it that way than the buffet anyways. Service was absolutely terrible!!! I never got my coffee, had to ask for salsa 3 times, our side order of toast 3 times & jam 4 times! We still never got jam so I had to go walk around the restaurant to find an empty table that had some. I waitressed for years & there is no excuse why NOTHING was ever written down. If they tried it maybe they would have remembered everything the first go round. Good food, bad staff.

    During our family trip this weekend, my boss recommended that we all dine at Little America in Flagstaff. We made reservations for a party of five for their four-course Thanksgiving dinner about a week before we arrived. The hotel restaurant was decorated for Christmas including a larger than life Santa and huge wood burning fire. The ambiance was amazing. We arrived an hour early and checked in with the hostess who invited us to have a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. We all had a glass of wine and had a nice relaxing chat. At ten minutes to six we made our way back to the hostess who proceeded to seat several other parties (including another party of five) before us despite the fact that we had a reservation and had already been waiting for an hour. Once we finally made it to the table, we received our first and second courses within thirty minutes. She even brought us a small scoop of sorbet to cleanse our palette before the main course arrived. Nice! First, I noticed that no one had come by to take our sorbet dishes, next I noticed that our wine and water glasses were empty and had not been refilled and our waitress could not be found for almost an hour. The bartender gratiously abandoned her post to come and bring us another round. When we finally received our meal, it was luke warm. Once we were finished the waitress had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to wait before we received our dessert (yes, she was serious). We never received an apology, the manager never visited our table and our $200+ bill was not credited a penny. It took over three hours total to be seated, served, and brought our bill. I feel that they took advantage of us because we did not complain. I honestly have never had to wait for a meal that long in my life and I am shocked that they did not even offer us an apology (much less free drinks). In today's marketplace customer satisfaction goes a long way. Companies are competing for repeat business with each and every exchange. My experience at Little America was that they did not care if my family and I ever returned again. Horrible service!

    Where stopped to check out all the Christmas lights at the Little America Hotel. Place was crawling with people, seeing this is the place that you meet at for the North Pole Experience. We are huge Christmas time fans and wanted to see what it was all about, looks like we will be doing the NPE next year, but the reason for this review is for the restaurant. After looking at the marvelous lights at the hotel, we were pretty hungry and didn't plan on eating there but Yelpping the reviews, i had no choice, i had to try the food here. Surprisingly happy that we did. I was impressed that they label things on their menu that have a GF option and even had gluten free, dairy free bread and rolls. We also shared a creme brulee and it was so heavenly. My friend at work also went this year to the NPE and ate at the restaurant and she said the people were wonderful the food was great and they had such a good time. She doesn't do reviews but needed to make sure it was added because after all, we both felt the same way about the whole experience. We are looking forward to coming back!

    Just walked in to have a nice steak dinner and we were the only table there...at first. Four tables walked in after we did, were seated and two of them already had their drinks and were getting their orders taken before anyone said a word to us...so needless to say, if I could give it no stars I would have...we got up and never said a word and left. Bad service is never acceptable in my book at a place that charges 20+ dollars for a steak..shame on you and we will not return.

    NOT CONSISTENT AT ALL. A year and a half ago my boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at the Little America Hotel and during our stay we thoroughly enjoyed both our room and a delicious prime rib dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. That time all employees (including our server) were so polite and went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. Taking a day trip up to Flagstaff today from Phoenix, we remembered the delicious prime rib deal they have on Saturday nights and thus decided to make a reservation. Upon arrival we were seated exactly where we wanted to be by a very kind hostess. A very awkward and short phrased female came to our table informing us that she was going to be our server. Both my boyfriend and I both served our ways through college so we totally understand the biz. We ordered the special which comes with a soup or salad beforehand which indeed did come out extremely promptly and were tasty. 1/3 of the way through our salads another server comes to the table with our steaks asking "if we were ready for them". A little confused by the fact that they would take them back to sit under a lamp if we said we weren't ready for them (?) we agreed to have them sit at the table while we finished our salads. We were here to have a nice relaxing romantic meal like the last one and right off the bat we felt rushed! But better early than late I suppose so we finally tucked into our meal. Prime rib was just like we remembered it - yum! The vegetables that came out were broccolini (which we were informed by our server it was to be asparagus, but a vegetable is a vegetable to us so we weren't going to say anything) were very undercooked and had no seasoning or flavor at all whatsoever. The mashed potato although had EGGS in. Now I don't know about anyone else but I have never heard of egg in mashed potato. I do not eat egg, I absolutely despise them, it tasted like a mashed deviled egg, I was not expecting it at all. After my vegetables and steak were almost gone (about 15 mins into the meal) our server decided to check on our meals to which I asked if there were eggs in the mashed potatoes, and she of course didn't know. We could taste it and we pulled bits of egg out so I asked if I could please have a baked potato instead and Emmie (our server) asked if she could take my plate back with her. Nervous about sending a few bites of food back on a plate just to swap out potatoes, I was hesitant and she rudely and quickly replied "well I guess I will just like bring you a baked potato out then" and walked away..... 10 more minutes and a clear plate later..... Emmie so kindly throws a small plate next to me with a baked potato on it - dry no toppings at all NOTHING - walks away and doesn't offer anything. I tried to scramble up things to put on it that were on the table which ended up just being pepper and au jus. I couldn't even eat it it was so dry and didn't come with any toppings I just pushed it to the side. She was definitely quick to pick up my plate and drop the check. Like I said we both understand the industry but she was incredibly short and rude, hardly checked back with us, and no one made an effort to make us feel comfortable. It is sad because we enjoyed it so much the first time but after this experience I just don't think we will be back.... It has appeared to me sometimes it is good and sometimes it is bad but you have to take a gamble and it isn't the cheapest place in town. A good server makes the experience, please train your servers in better customer service our dinner was miserable, awkward, and rushed!!!!

    While staying at the hotel, we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, but seemed a tad overworked. Dinner was out-of-this-world delicious (hint: rainbow trout) and the breakfast buffet was also good. I may have tossed out a full five stars here, had the coffee not been the worst I have ever had.

    While staying at the hotel we had dinner at the restaurant which was terrific. It's great to have a wonderful restaurant at the hotel especially as we arrived late and hungry. The service was impeccable and the wine choices were also very good.

    Quick lunch before we boarded for the North Pole Experience. Veggie beef soup was excellent. Meat was tender and not a tough cut as you may typically find in a beef soup. Veggies tasted fresh and well cooked/seasoned. They had little chunks of cauliflower, zucchini and more goodies. Scarfed that bad boy down with a quickness. Turkey Cobb salad w balsamic vinegarette was very good! Fresh veggies and good meat. My wife had the Rotisserie Chicken Caesar wrap and thought it was just OK. Kids Mac n cheese was a bit watery and the kids didn't finish. Good fruit side though. Old town ambience, decent service, but it was a very long wait and many of the cooks looked confused. It wasn't very busy either, so there's no excuse for the slow service. We found it odd that the waitress said they were busy yet the place was less than half full. Overall, the next time we're in the area we'll try something else.

    We had dinner here last night and loved it! Nice setting (the tree behind the bar is so cool), great food and great service. Birdi was out waitress and she was wonderful! I was impressed that they were able to accommodate the food allergies in the group (gluten, dairy) so well. They label things that have a GF option and even had gluten free, dairy free bread and rolls. All six of us loved our food, but as a gfcf person I was especially happy. I only wish I could have tried the fries bc they looked amazing! Will return next time we're in Flagstaff.

    This review is for the North Pole Experience Dinner Buffet at Little America, which I expect is a product of the Western Gold Restaurant and Little America. It's not that the food was bad, but the lack of choices of underwhelming food, deserts and everything else in a staid hotel banquet room was the problem. Did I forget to mention that the cost of the buffet was $30! A complete waste of money (think about what you get in Vegas for a lesser price). Unless you can't leave the hotel, do yourself a favor and go eat at Cracker Barrel or plenty of other nearby restaurant choices.

    Great hotel... shoddy restaurant. This place would be a perfect candidate for a Gordon Ramsay reality TV show because our dining experience was a freaking nightmare! As we all sat around the table staring at each other (as well as all the empty water glasses), the waiter says, "Do we need any refills here?" Hey buddy, it's water... keep the glasses filled, you don't have to ask anyone, just do it. Seriously, we were one of only three tables in the entire restaurant, yet our waiter had a total melt down. So after five minutes of not seeing our waiter, we asked the manager where he had gone. The manager told us that our waiter had to take a "break" because he and the kitchen staff were not getting along. Luckily the manager took over, which was fine, but she soon left and we were then turned over to another waitress (who also did fine). Skipping ahead: we finally get our meals and the food was alright, but a bit over priced. (The manager did comp desserts though.) Approximately fifteen minutes after we were done eating, we still had not received the check. When we asked what was taking so long, we were told by an employee that the computer was not working and they could not figure out the problem. Exasperated, we told the waitress to charge it to our guest room so we could finally escape the confines of the restaurant. Later when I got the bill, I found out that they had charged me twice. Ugh! WTF? Like I said initially, the hotel (Little America) was awesome but the restaurant experience was a total disaster; one in which FEMA should have been involved.

    Well...this is a bit of a mixed review. Just this past weekend, the b/f and I stayed here for a weekend getaway (here being Little America). I'm going to break this down a bit so I can explain exactly WHY it's a mixed review. First: Breakfast on Saturday. Breakfast is served till 11, so we made it down with plenty of time to spare (being around 10:15ish). Service was great, we had our drinks quickly, but the selection wasn't the best at $14/person. They were out of biscuits and never did refill them (I love me some biscuits and gravy), but the food was pretty tasty for what was there. Second: Lunch on Saturday. Due to a TON of snow and us walking out to our car and decided to not dig it out, we stayed at the hotel for lunch. Again, food was delicious and actually pretty well priced this time for the amount we received. I ordered a french dip w/ sweet potato fries and the b/f ordered a turkey wrap with fries. Both of us had half a sandwich/wrap left over because of how big it was. However, the service left a bit to be desired. Our server was friendly, but after he left the bill, we didn't see him for 15-20 minutes. We ended up having to go and find a pen because he didn't leave one at our table, then go find someone to get a box. We saw him as we were literally walking out the door. Third and last: Breakfast on Sunday. We didn't realize until we came downstairs that on Sundays, the restaurant serves a brunch. We figured that wouldn't be too bad until they told us it'd be $20/person. We decided (after being told by the hostess) that we'd order off the menu. We then proceeded to sit at our booth for 10 minutes without anyone coming to wait on us, or even take our drink order! Needless to say, at that point I was hungry and tired of waiting, so we stood up and walked out and drove under the freeway to Cracker Barrel. Funnily enough, we were able to both eat and get a good meal for the cost of one of those per persons for the brunch. I would say it's worth ordered room service since I'm assuming it comes from this restaurant, but the food just isn't worth the hassle of the wait staff. It's unfortunate because the food was delicious and the views from the windows were amazing, especially watching the snow fall.

    Stayed at Little America Hotel for one night; had a Fish & Chips lunch and The American breakfast the next morning. Both meals were delicious--especially the lunch--and the afternoon server, Stephanie, provided outstanding customer service. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, and I enjoyed a lovely view of the trees and wildlife while having my meals. Definitely recommend stopping here.

    Just finished dinner. Terrific experience. GM and senior staff working the room. Service staff is much better trained from prior experiences. Its great to see a Flagstaff landmark being kept up to date. If you haven't tried Western Gold recently you have tried them. Great taste and good presentation for the dinner. Another surprise was the after dinner coffee, exceptional, it was on par with many 4/5 star restaurants.

    I had breakfast here. Half grape fruit (not bad although it was $3). Good strong coffee. And corned beef with poached eggs. The chipotle sauce wasn't good but I had Tabasco sauce :) The place is pretty nice and the tree at the coffe/bar is awesome. The hotel is nice and the restaurant is for sure a good option even if you're not staying there.

    Over priced a tad but we were tired, didn't want to leave the hotel so we had a choice between this and nothing. Ahhh, love those situations when that happens. Got garlic butter sauce and pasta. I think I had garlic breath even after I brushed my teeth 5x. Enough said.

    My family and I came here for their Sunday brunch. We were told at the front desk that, due to cutbacks, there was no longer a brunch buffet. Instead, they offered a 3-course prix fixe brunch menu, which sounded just fine. The cutbacks were immediately apparent from the quality of the food, however. Apparently they went so far as to ration beverages, as our waiter told us after 2 Arnold Palmers that they were "running out of lemonade" and advised us to switch to water. If only that were the worst complaint I had... but no, "abysmal" would be too kind a word to describe the meal that ensued. Two of our four ordered off the brunch menu, the others ordered from the regular menu. The soup du jour (the only soup option on the brunch menu) was New England Clam Chowder. As northern Arizona is quite far from an ocean, I decided that clam chowder would probably not be a good choice. Unfortunately, not everybody thought that way and one of our party ended up with a bowl of what seemed to be murky bathwater in front of her. The "chowder" didn't even contain clams, but instead used bacon. Two of us ordered eggs benedict, which came with home fries. The eggs were unspectacular, but the home fries were particularly notable because they clearly came from a freezer bag. Not only were they poorly seasoned, but some of them were still nearly frozen! "Home cooking" seemed a popular theme here at the Western Gold in the sense that most of the food I would have rather prepared myself! What didn't come directly from a freezer bag was only one or two steps removed (my shrimp Mac and Cheese had some of the most unappetizing shrimp I've ever attempted to eat). The pièce de résistance, however, was the "peppermint patty" they served us for dessert. It was neither peppermint nor patty: imagine a dollop of Cool Whip Lite on top of soggy Oreo pie crust. In fact, I reckon if I were to browse the collection of pre-made desserts in the freezers of the nearby Bashas grocery, I would find exactly the same dessert that was presented to me as the finale of the $19 brunch meal. When we first entered the Little America, where this restaurant resides, the friendly woman at the front desk told us that she had not yet tried out the restaurant since their change in staff. Now I understand why.

    Went to dinner as a group for Valentine's Day. Several of us got the Valentine's Day special. Only to be told after our meals were brought out an hour after ordering and separately brought to the table, that someone took one of our fillets so there wasn't anymore the kitchen ran out. How do you run out of Valentine Specials? But wait,It gets worse! One fillet was brought to the table rare. And I personally ordered a baked potatoes with my meal and when our server laid it in front of me he informed me they ran out of baked potatoes but instead you get mashed. I've never heard of such a thing. The server choosing for me...what? And I tasted them and they were so salty I couldn't eat them. My meal was ruined. So we got management over only for her to empathicly listen with no results or satifactory restitution. The servers were in no rushto get anything done. I felt like they were unprepared with servers as well as kitchen staff. I seen people actually walk out. My worst dining experience ever. Management was horribly inept. Rach from phx

The server said he would ask your sommelier, and left. He came back and apologized, admitting that the wine was spoiled. It's obvious you don't have the facilities to store wine under proper conditions. We ordered another, and in the meantime, were served our soup. Never in my life had I been brought soup before wine. This is not fine dining. We waited for our amuse-bouche, and appetizers. We still had not gotten, nor even offered, to have our water glasses filled, or offered any bread. We found the amuse-bouche of asparagus wrapped in proscuitto below average. The asparagus was obviously not fresh, the proscuitto too thickly cut, and dry. Meanwhile, we were entertained by your "Saturday Night Live" type lounge singer, and the pounding hip-hop music from the wedding reception next door. This is not fine dining. The shrimp cocktail--though you have another ridiculous name for it--was also dried out, and the pathetic jar cocktail sauce served with it was terrible. Fine dining restaurants do not serve anything from a jar, previously frozen, or canned. That is not fine dining. Then our server came back and apologized that he seemed to have lost our entrée orders, and could we repeat them for him. He attempted to repeat them, but got them incorrect. As far as the entrées, the lime and garlic mashed potatoes were totally tasteless, and had not one hint of either garlic nor lime. That's probably a good thing since lime and garlic are a ridiculous flavor combination. Speaking of poor flavor combinations, salmon with mango? Also, the prime rib was not hot, and the broccoli overcooked. Did you hire your "chef" from Sizzler? This is not fine dining. As time slowly ticked away, more people left, and other server's started to remove the candles and glasses from the empty tables. Again, another thing we've never seen in any real fine dining restaurant. You can't get more tacky than cleaning up while there are still patrons eating. This is not fine dining. Just because you throw around a couple of French culinary terms like amuse-bouche and sommelier, and charge exorbitant prices, does not give you the right to call yourself a fine dining restaurant. Perhaps you should call your place "Hoppin' Dan's Fancy Eatery" or something to that effect, because it is certainly NOT fine dining.

    The salmon tasted like a microwave dinner and the scallops were adorned with a "bright pink sauce" that looked like Pepto Bismol. Why? The waiter said he didn't know what it was, but was pretty sure the chefs used food dye. If you eat here out of sheer connivence, stick to the simpler things like burgers and such. Saving grace: a pretty good Mai Tai.

    This review is for the North Pole Experience Dinner Buffet at Little America, which I expect is a product of the Western Gold Restaurant and Little America. It's not that the food was bad, but the lack of choices of underwhelming food, deserts and everything else in a staid hotel banquet room was the problem. Did I forget to mention that the cost of the buffet was $30! A complete waste of money (think about what you get in Vegas for a lesser price). Unless you can't leave the hotel, do yourself a favor and go eat at Cracker Barrel or plenty of other nearby restaurant choices.

    Over priced a tad but we were tired, didn't want to leave the hotel so we had a choice between this and nothing. Ahhh, love those situations when that happens. Got garlic butter sauce and pasta. I think I had garlic breath even after I brushed my teeth 5x. Enough said.

    The Sunday brunch here was really great. A bit pricey, but included unlimited coffee and juice. The dessert selection especially was impressive, including chocolate and regular creme brulee, bread pudding, and a ton of pies and cakes.

    This restaurant is horrible, the worst I have ever been to. My family and I went the on Christmas Day. Ordered 3 French onion soups 2 of the lobster bisque and a salad to start. Half an hour later we still didn't have utensils or bread but we saw people who entered in after us get all of these things as we tried to wait patiently. We finally had to ask for it to get it. Then we only got two french onion soups instead of everything we ordered initially. We had to ask about the rest of our order in order to get it. That was just the soups and salad. A whole 45 min. Our entrees came out cold and when we told them about our prime rib dinner being cold the waiter offered to microwave it!!!!! Since they ran out of prime rib. Unbelievable. He didn't offer another cut if meat but just have us an attitude and said he would just take it off the check since we didn't want it microwaved to get hot food. The pasta dish I ordered pasta al forno was supposed to have sweet italian sausage in it. I didn't get a single sausage. I went to talk to the manager and nothing was resolved. We didn't even get refills of our water and was never asked if the kids needed refills in their drinks. They ended up drinking out waters. We didn't even get the water even after we asked for the refills. I won't even set foot in the restaurant due to this horrible experience. Little america hotel is nice but this restaurant experience truly ruined Christmas dinner for us. I am so utterly disappointed. Had the restaurant showed some type of remorse or tried to make the experience better it might have been ok. But they didn't care about how they served you. The only thing we got without having to wait for or ask for iwas the check. I hate this restaurant and do not recommend it to anyone. EVER. Ended up having eat the snacks we brought afterward since our dinner was so terrible. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT.

    The buffet food looked gross but out of convenience we stayed and ordered off the menu. Once the food finally got to us it was very good and there was so much of it that it was cheeper for us doing it that way than the buffet anyways. Service was absolutely terrible!!! I never got my coffee, had to ask for salsa 3 times, our side order of toast 3 times & jam 4 times! We still never got jam so I had to go walk around the restaurant to find an empty table that had some. I waitressed for years & there is no excuse why NOTHING was ever written down. If they tried it maybe they would have remembered everything the first go round. Good food, bad staff.

    Stayed at Little America Hotel for one night; had a Fish & Chips lunch and The American breakfast the next morning. Both meals were delicious--especially the lunch--and the afternoon server, Stephanie, provided outstanding customer service. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, and I enjoyed a lovely view of the trees and wildlife while having my meals. Definitely recommend stopping here.

    My family and I came here for their Sunday brunch. We were told at the front desk that, due to cutbacks, there was no longer a brunch buffet. Instead, they offered a 3-course prix fixe brunch menu, which sounded just fine. The cutbacks were immediately apparent from the quality of the food, however. Apparently they went so far as to ration beverages, as our waiter told us after 2 Arnold Palmers that they were "running out of lemonade" and advised us to switch to water. If only that were the worst complaint I had... but no, "abysmal" would be too kind a word to describe the meal that ensued. Two of our four ordered off the brunch menu, the others ordered from the regular menu. The soup du jour (the only soup option on the brunch menu) was New England Clam Chowder. As northern Arizona is quite far from an ocean, I decided that clam chowder would probably not be a good choice. Unfortunately, not everybody thought that way and one of our party ended up with a bowl of what seemed to be murky bathwater in front of her. The "chowder" didn't even contain clams, but instead used bacon. Two of us ordered eggs benedict, which came with home fries. The eggs were unspectacular, but the home fries were particularly notable because they clearly came from a freezer bag. Not only were they poorly seasoned, but some of them were still nearly frozen! "Home cooking" seemed a popular theme here at the Western Gold in the sense that most of the food I would have rather prepared myself! What didn't come directly from a freezer bag was only one or two steps removed (my shrimp Mac and Cheese had some of the most unappetizing shrimp I've ever attempted to eat). The pièce de résistance, however, was the "peppermint patty" they served us for dessert. It was neither peppermint nor patty: imagine a dollop of Cool Whip Lite on top of soggy Oreo pie crust. In fact, I reckon if I were to browse the collection of pre-made desserts in the freezers of the nearby Bashas grocery, I would find exactly the same dessert that was presented to me as the finale of the $19 brunch meal. When we first entered the Little America, where this restaurant resides, the friendly woman at the front desk told us that she had not yet tried out the restaurant since their change in staff. Now I understand why.

    Went to dinner as a group for Valentine's Day. Several of us got the Valentine's Day special. Only to be told after our meals were brought out an hour after ordering and separately brought to the table, that someone took one of our fillets so there wasn't anymore the kitchen ran out. How do you run out of Valentine Specials? But wait,It gets worse! One fillet was brought to the table rare. And I personally ordered a baked potatoes with my meal and when our server laid it in front of me he informed me they ran out of baked potatoes but instead you get mashed. I've never heard of such a thing. The server choosing for me...what? And I tasted them and they were so salty I couldn't eat them. My meal was ruined. So we got management over only for her to empathicly listen with no results or satifactory restitution. The servers were in no rushto get anything done. I felt like they were unprepared with servers as well as kitchen staff. I seen people actually walk out. My worst dining experience ever. Management was horribly inept. Rach from phx

    After checking into the Little America Hotel, we wandered into their spacious dining room, the Western Gold Restaurant. We were promptly seated near the window by the friendly hostess. The dining room has lots of windows with pleasant views, a bar with several TVs, and a buffet table area. The Friday evening crowd was thin, although the bar area seemed popular -- the bartender was pretty, and March Madness was in full swing. Our waiter appeared immediately and greeted us warmly. He helpfully suggested some dining options, and had our drinks out immediately. I had the turkey dinner (a "House Favorite"), my son had fish & chips, and my wife ordered the chicken marsala. Our meals came out very quickly. My turkey dinner was excellent: the cornbread stuffing was well seasoned, the turkey was moist, and - I found this unusual - the vegetable sides were delicious. I've often found vegetable medleys to be a gratuitous addition to add color and balance to a plate, but rarely are they worth eating. Not so these, as I ate them all. The fish & chips were not heavily battered -- more like lightly seasoned -- and my son pronounced them as "pretty good, not the best, but pretty good considering we're miles from the coast." My wife's chicken marsala was just "okay", the chicken was tender, but the meal lacked flavor. Had there not been so many other dining options in Flagstaff, we'd have eaten here again over the course of our 4-day stay. The menu doesn't have a great deal of variation, so we tried other places for dinner. But this is a safe choice with good service and a beautiful venue.

    Indeed it is convenient if you are staying at the nice hotel. The staff are friendly but their food and management are not good. I ordered a medium-well cooked steak, which actually looked like a piece of coal when served. I then told the waiter that the steak is over cooked, she simply said "Oh, its too well done?" and walked away. After 8:30pm, the staffs were closing the restaurant and moving tables and chairs in front of all twenty customers still eating.......really weird place.

    Decent food and very convenient if you are staying at the hotel. I had a pretty good prime rib the first night at a really good price since it was a special and included a starter and dessert. My husband liked the bread pudding which got good Yelp reviews - I'm not a huge fan of bread pudding. I had a strawberry shortcake...next time I think I'll save those extra calories for ice cream. Okay breakfast buffet. So-so chicken wrap for dinner the next day. Friendly wait staff.

    We had dinner here last night and loved it! Nice setting (the tree behind the bar is so cool), great food and great service. Birdi was out waitress and she was wonderful! I was impressed that they were able to accommodate the food allergies in the group (gluten, dairy) so well. They label things that have a GF option and even had gluten free, dairy free bread and rolls. All six of us loved our food, but as a gfcf person I was especially happy. I only wish I could have tried the fries bc they looked amazing! Will return next time we're in Flagstaff.

    While staying at the Little America hotel, my mom and I decided to try their restaurant, the Western gold. We tried it for dinner the first night we arrived and then for breakfast the following morning. For dinner, I chose the roasted turkey meal since I am such a fan of Thanksgiving dinner. From what I can remember, everything was very good in this meal and I ate the entire thing. But what really sticks in my memory was the bread pudding. My mom had heard a lot about it so we decided to try it even though we never really had had good bread pudding. The bread pudding almost resembled cake and it had a bourbon sauce on top. This was the moment when I became a bread pudding fan and decided to try it at other restaurants. I can't really describe the taste. It was definitely lighter than cake and the sauce just had a very different but distinct flavor. I became addicted and couldn't stop eating it. It got to the point where my mom and I were fighting over the last bite! The next morning, we chose to have breakfast at the Western Gold. I am a huge fan also of eggs Benedict and am constantly searching for the next great eggs Benedict recipe. I have to say that the Benedict at the western was the best that I had ever had. I had it vegetarian with tomato and avocado which was spectacular. The hollandaise was light but creamy and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The muffin was toasted but was not too toasted. These three components (hollandaise, perfectly poached egg, and English muffin texture) are the key to having a great eggs Benedict. For being a hotel restaurant, I was very impressed!

    During our family trip this weekend, my boss recommended that we all dine at Little America in Flagstaff. We made reservations for a party of five for their four-course Thanksgiving dinner about a week before we arrived. The hotel restaurant was decorated for Christmas including a larger than life Santa and huge wood burning fire. The ambiance was amazing. We arrived an hour early and checked in with the hostess who invited us to have a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. We all had a glass of wine and had a nice relaxing chat. At ten minutes to six we made our way back to the hostess who proceeded to seat several other parties (including another party of five) before us despite the fact that we had a reservation and had already been waiting for an hour. Once we finally made it to the table, we received our first and second courses within thirty minutes. She even brought us a small scoop of sorbet to cleanse our palette before the main course arrived. Nice! First, I noticed that no one had come by to take our sorbet dishes, next I noticed that our wine and water glasses were empty and had not been refilled and our waitress could not be found for almost an hour. The bartender gratiously abandoned her post to come and bring us another round. When we finally received our meal, it was luke warm. Once we were finished the waitress had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to wait before we received our dessert (yes, she was serious). We never received an apology, the manager never visited our table and our $200+ bill was not credited a penny. It took over three hours total to be seated, served, and brought our bill. I feel that they took advantage of us because we did not complain. I honestly have never had to wait for a meal that long in my life and I am shocked that they did not even offer us an apology (much less free drinks). In today's marketplace customer satisfaction goes a long way. Companies are competing for repeat business with each and every exchange. My experience at Little America was that they did not care if my family and I ever returned again. Horrible service!

    NOT CONSISTENT AT ALL. A year and a half ago my boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at the Little America Hotel and during our stay we thoroughly enjoyed both our room and a delicious prime rib dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. That time all employees (including our server) were so polite and went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. Taking a day trip up to Flagstaff today from Phoenix, we remembered the delicious prime rib deal they have on Saturday nights and thus decided to make a reservation. Upon arrival we were seated exactly where we wanted to be by a very kind hostess. A very awkward and short phrased female came to our table informing us that she was going to be our server. Both my boyfriend and I both served our ways through college so we totally understand the biz. We ordered the special which comes with a soup or salad beforehand which indeed did come out extremely promptly and were tasty. 1/3 of the way through our salads another server comes to the table with our steaks asking "if we were ready for them". A little confused by the fact that they would take them back to sit under a lamp if we said we weren't ready for them (?) we agreed to have them sit at the table while we finished our salads. We were here to have a nice relaxing romantic meal like the last one and right off the bat we felt rushed! But better early than late I suppose so we finally tucked into our meal. Prime rib was just like we remembered it - yum! The vegetables that came out were broccolini (which we were informed by our server it was to be asparagus, but a vegetable is a vegetable to us so we weren't going to say anything) were very undercooked and had no seasoning or flavor at all whatsoever. The mashed potato although had EGGS in. Now I don't know about anyone else but I have never heard of egg in mashed potato. I do not eat egg, I absolutely despise them, it tasted like a mashed deviled egg, I was not expecting it at all. After my vegetables and steak were almost gone (about 15 mins into the meal) our server decided to check on our meals to which I asked if there were eggs in the mashed potatoes, and she of course didn't know. We could taste it and we pulled bits of egg out so I asked if I could please have a baked potato instead and Emmie (our server) asked if she could take my plate back with her. Nervous about sending a few bites of food back on a plate just to swap out potatoes, I was hesitant and she rudely and quickly replied "well I guess I will just like bring you a baked potato out then" and walked away..... 10 more minutes and a clear plate later..... Emmie so kindly throws a small plate next to me with a baked potato on it - dry no toppings at all NOTHING - walks away and doesn't offer anything. I tried to scramble up things to put on it that were on the table which ended up just being pepper and au jus. I couldn't even eat it it was so dry and didn't come with any toppings I just pushed it to the side. She was definitely quick to pick up my plate and drop the check. Like I said we both understand the industry but she was incredibly short and rude, hardly checked back with us, and no one made an effort to make us feel comfortable. It is sad because we enjoyed it so much the first time but after this experience I just don't think we will be back.... It has appeared to me sometimes it is good and sometimes it is bad but you have to take a gamble and it isn't the cheapest place in town. A good server makes the experience, please train your servers in better customer service our dinner was miserable, awkward, and rushed!!!!

    Where stopped to check out all the Christmas lights at the Little America Hotel. Place was crawling with people, seeing this is the place that you meet at for the North Pole Experience. We are huge Christmas time fans and wanted to see what it was all about, looks like we will be doing the NPE next year, but the reason for this review is for the restaurant. After looking at the marvelous lights at the hotel, we were pretty hungry and didn't plan on eating there but Yelpping the reviews, i had no choice, i had to try the food here. Surprisingly happy that we did. I was impressed that they label things on their menu that have a GF option and even had gluten free, dairy free bread and rolls. We also shared a creme brulee and it was so heavenly. My friend at work also went this year to the NPE and ate at the restaurant and she said the people were wonderful the food was great and they had such a good time. She doesn't do reviews but needed to make sure it was added because after all, we both felt the same way about the whole experience. We are looking forward to coming back!

    While staying at the hotel, we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, but seemed a tad overworked. Dinner was out-of-this-world delicious (hint: rainbow trout) and the breakfast buffet was also good. I may have tossed out a full five stars here, had the coffee not been the worst I have ever had.

    While staying at the hotel we had dinner at the restaurant which was terrific. It's great to have a wonderful restaurant at the hotel especially as we arrived late and hungry. The service was impeccable and the wine choices were also very good.

    Just walked in to have a nice steak dinner and we were the only table there...at first. Four tables walked in after we did, were seated and two of them already had their drinks and were getting their orders taken before anyone said a word to us...so needless to say, if I could give it no stars I would have...we got up and never said a word and left. Bad service is never acceptable in my book at a place that charges 20+ dollars for a steak..shame on you and we will not return.

    Quick lunch before we boarded for the North Pole Experience. Veggie beef soup was excellent. Meat was tender and not a tough cut as you may typically find in a beef soup. Veggies tasted fresh and well cooked/seasoned. They had little chunks of cauliflower, zucchini and more goodies. Scarfed that bad boy down with a quickness. Turkey Cobb salad w balsamic vinegarette was very good! Fresh veggies and good meat. My wife had the Rotisserie Chicken Caesar wrap and thought it was just OK. Kids Mac n cheese was a bit watery and the kids didn't finish. Good fruit side though. Old town ambience, decent service, but it was a very long wait and many of the cooks looked confused. It wasn't very busy either, so there's no excuse for the slow service. We found it odd that the waitress said they were busy yet the place was less than half full. Overall, the next time we're in the area we'll try something else.

    Well...this is a bit of a mixed review. Just this past weekend, the b/f and I stayed here for a weekend getaway (here being Little America). I'm going to break this down a bit so I can explain exactly WHY it's a mixed review. First: Breakfast on Saturday. Breakfast is served till 11, so we made it down with plenty of time to spare (being around 10:15ish). Service was great, we had our drinks quickly, but the selection wasn't the best at $14/person. They were out of biscuits and never did refill them (I love me some biscuits and gravy), but the food was pretty tasty for what was there. Second: Lunch on Saturday. Due to a TON of snow and us walking out to our car and decided to not dig it out, we stayed at the hotel for lunch. Again, food was delicious and actually pretty well priced this time for the amount we received. I ordered a french dip w/ sweet potato fries and the b/f ordered a turkey wrap with fries. Both of us had half a sandwich/wrap left over because of how big it was. However, the service left a bit to be desired. Our server was friendly, but after he left the bill, we didn't see him for 15-20 minutes. We ended up having to go and find a pen because he didn't leave one at our table, then go find someone to get a box. We saw him as we were literally walking out the door. Third and last: Breakfast on Sunday. We didn't realize until we came downstairs that on Sundays, the restaurant serves a brunch. We figured that wouldn't be too bad until they told us it'd be $20/person. We decided (after being told by the hostess) that we'd order off the menu. We then proceeded to sit at our booth for 10 minutes without anyone coming to wait on us, or even take our drink order! Needless to say, at that point I was hungry and tired of waiting, so we stood up and walked out and drove under the freeway to Cracker Barrel. Funnily enough, we were able to both eat and get a good meal for the cost of one of those per persons for the brunch. I would say it's worth ordered room service since I'm assuming it comes from this restaurant, but the food just isn't worth the hassle of the wait staff. It's unfortunate because the food was delicious and the views from the windows were amazing, especially watching the snow fall.

    Great hotel... shoddy restaurant. This place would be a perfect candidate for a Gordon Ramsay reality TV show because our dining experience was a freaking nightmare! As we all sat around the table staring at each other (as well as all the empty water glasses), the waiter says, "Do we need any refills here?" Hey buddy, it's water... keep the glasses filled, you don't have to ask anyone, just do it. Seriously, we were one of only three tables in the entire restaurant, yet our waiter had a total melt down. So after five minutes of not seeing our waiter, we asked the manager where he had gone. The manager told us that our waiter had to take a "break" because he and the kitchen staff were not getting along. Luckily the manager took over, which was fine, but she soon left and we were then turned over to another waitress (who also did fine). Skipping ahead: we finally get our meals and the food was alright, but a bit over priced. (The manager did comp desserts though.) Approximately fifteen minutes after we were done eating, we still had not received the check. When we asked what was taking so long, we were told by an employee that the computer was not working and they could not figure out the problem. Exasperated, we told the waitress to charge it to our guest room so we could finally escape the confines of the restaurant. Later when I got the bill, I found out that they had charged me twice. Ugh! WTF? Like I said initially, the hotel (Little America) was awesome but the restaurant experience was a total disaster; one in which FEMA should have been involved.

    Just finished dinner. Terrific experience. GM and senior staff working the room. Service staff is much better trained from prior experiences. Its great to see a Flagstaff landmark being kept up to date. If you haven't tried Western Gold recently you have tried them. Great taste and good presentation for the dinner. Another surprise was the after dinner coffee, exceptional, it was on par with many 4/5 star restaurants.

    I had breakfast here. Half grape fruit (not bad although it was $3). Good strong coffee. And corned beef with poached eggs. The chipotle sauce wasn't good but I had Tabasco sauce :) The place is pretty nice and the tree at the coffe/bar is awesome. The hotel is nice and the restaurant is for sure a good option even if you're not staying there.
