If you are a health nut, or just a pretentious foodie that needs locally-sourced, organic foods, you should find somewhere else to eat breakfast. If you're hungry and/or hungover and need something to help you sleep the rest of the morning away, I definitely recommend you come here to strap on your feed bag. My favorite of the real diners in flagstaff. Old school feel, dirty, with a great, no nonsense wait staff, and the food is just what you expect from a greasy spoon. The menu is vast including 66 types of omelets to honor Rt 66. This location is on 66, with booths along the front window to look at trains, traffic, and, arguably, the ugliest part of Flagstaff. There's a long counter with swivel chairs, a novelty in Flagstaff. I prefer this location to the strip mall location on the southwest side of town, better diner feel. The food is not mind blowing, but it is good and the portions are gorilla-sized. I usually get the the chicken fried steak and eggs combo with hash browns and toast (~$9). The coffee is brown, and keeps coming. I've had a few of the omelets, and they were tasty and large. The thing that I had and absolutely loved is the Posole, second only to Charly's downtown. The Posole here is spicier and the portion is huge. When compared to Galaxy and Downtown Diner, I'd choose this every single time. Galaxy feels like I'm eating at a Denny's or IHOP with a terrible theme, and Downtown Diner's prices are not scaled to amount or quality of the food. The 5-star reviews are really overselling the place, it's attached to motel, it's a diner, it's rundown, it's old, adjust your expectations accordingly.

I love this place!!! The owner is originally from New York and knows what diner food is supposed to taste like. Have yet to have a bad meal here and the prices are reasonable. Biscuits are huge (one will food two people), they have good coffee, and there's no shortage of food in any of their meals. They have a ton of different omelets (my favorite being the one stuffed with corn beef hash), and their rendition of potatoes, referred to by them simply as "those potatoes" are great. If you think you're hungry for pancakes, order a short stack, because each pancake is the size of the whole dang plate, lol... I don't think it's possible to put a full order down unless you are a professional contest eater. Anyway service has always been good, and if you're from the east coast the food will make you feel like you're home again in a real honest to goodness diner. Best breakfast in Flagstaff in my opinion!!!

Every time I come through Flagstaff THIS IS the must go to place for breakfast for me. Had the cheese enchiladas and eggs. Served w hash browns and perfect refried beans, it was like angels dancing on my palate! Monica is my favorite server. A consummate professional. Warm and welcoming, she is always ready with food suggestions should you want one. It was WAY too much food for me to eat and I would have taken a pic, however my stomach got the best of me and I just dove right in! Lastly, the atmosphere for a train lover is perfectly charming. Great coffee and homemade salsa!

Ate here with the kids while on a family vacation. The decor was stellar, the model railroad displays, with the BNSF trains rolling through flagstaff 100 yds away, were a really awesome touch. The food- Standard diner fare, with a few regional influences on the daily specials. Personally had the "Mexican" chicken fried steak and eggs, which I would recommend to anyone. This ended up being a chicken fried steak topped with a green Chile sauce instead of gravy. Other orders were more tame, food was good for the price. All in all, a decent dining experience with a great environment.

From the outside, and once you walk in, the Crown Railroad Cafe reminds you of something out of the late 60s or early 70s. And I can say the dining experience is the same. And that is not a bad thing at all. Back to a time when cooks knew how to perfectly make eggs over medium. Where toast comes out hot and freshly buttered. Where your coffee never hits bottom of cup or gets cold. And a place where the staff is as friendly as can be. This is no high style dining. But it is a perfect tribute to the art of American roadside dining. Do yourself a favor if you're going through Flagstaff. Stop here. Eat. Talk. Oh, and the cherry pie and chocolate cake are both amazing. Don't judge me for ordering both. Lol.

A diner on Route 66. That's what this place is. It features diner food. We sat at New York Central table (they name their tables). We didn't really arrive late, but as we were ordering we were told we got last bowl of soup. They were out. Which was annoying because TWO of us wanted soup. Seems odd they would be out when it's only a bit after 7pm. They were also out of one of their specials (I forget which one). Server was friendly. Menu was as-expected. Food was fine. Nothing special. Just fine. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if I was driving by and wanted diner food I would stop here again.

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night; it wasn't busy at all. It appeared to be clean and was decorated nicely. I enjoyed watching the model train drive by along the track above the dining area. I thought the food took a little long to come out, especially considering they weren't busy. I really loved the flavor of the Chicken & Rice Soup. The Stuffed Cabbage was okay but it was a very hearty serving of food. The menu items were reasonably priced.

Ate here on a whim, we were tired and it is close to the hotel. Really good, better than I would of thought. I had salad, stuffed cabbage, baked potato, and corn on the cob. Everything was delicious, well cooked. Not over cooked. Hubby ordered ground beef patty with brown gravy and grilled onions, steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes with gravy. Also really good! Server Claire was pleasant, efficient, friendly. We liked to train theme and the electric train circling the ceiling track. We would eat here again!

Waitstaff was fabulous! Ambiance is adorable. Mediocre food. Our table had a breakfast burrito with "those" potatoes, southwest French dip and grilled cheese with fries. The burrito was greasy, from the cheese that was greasy. Would make the perfect hangover food!

Food was really good, the toy train orbiting the restaurant was a really nice touch, my kids were more interested in watching the train than eating their food! The server was very nice and our drinks never stayed empty for long. The prices were nice, 2 adults and 2 kids plus a bit of carry out for the pets only came up to 44 bucks. Service is a bit slow, but I don't hold it against them, they really need to hire another waitress, had one girl running the whole floor. Manager had to help out on the floor. I will be coming back, overall, a pleasant time with my family.

What a great find! This place is amazing! One of the best Cuban sandwiches I've ever had! And even the Caesar salad was great! You can get breakfast all day also! The vibe is great and so is the service. I'm coming back for dinner! I don't recommend the fajitas though.

Literally the worst place i've ever eaten in my life. The ambience of this place is super cute, but that is where the positives of this place end. Service can make or break an experience so we will start with that. As we enter as a party of 5, we stand for about 10 mins before greeted or even looked at by the two servers working in a practically empty restaurant. We are told we can sit wherever we want. So we do. We wait about 10 mins for someone to get us menus before we take things into our own hands and grab a few, after that someone finally approached us with menus and offered to take our drink order. (these menus by the way are possibly the filthiest i have ever seen, as if they had been passed through thousands of hands without being wiped down) we get our drinks and an entirely different waitress takes our dinner order. We wait for possibly 30 mins for our food, half of our party got salads prior after the waitress broke a plate in the kitchen. On to the food: eggs were burnt on the outsides and undercooked in the middle, all the meat (hamburger) was undercooked, and under seasoned, the onions they use overpowered my entire palette. The waitress forgot my friend's biscuit and gravy until someone from our party walked up to the kitchen to point out the error... its a good thing we did because it was the only good thing that was served to us. Even reliving it in this diatribe makes me livid because even at the very end of the meal which we explicitly asked for separate checks the waitress wrote out 2 checks but had it all come to 1 total. DEFEATING THE ENTIRE PURPOSE. So avoid this hellhole at all costs.

While it's possible for good places to have bad days, my experience with this place was bad. Wife and I went there for dinner. I ordered the Reuben sandwich, only to be told that they were out of sauerkraut. Numerous grocery stores throughout the city, yet they couldn't send someone to get more when they saw they were running low?! Instead, I ordered the French Dip sandwich and my wife got the Philly Cheesesteak. The beef in both sandwiches was so dry that you could've shingled a roof with it! The first dip of my sandwich into the au jus bowl sopped up nearly all of the jus! Won't be going back.

Sorry, I'm all for historic landmarks and originality and I don't feel comfortable giving 3 stars...so here's our experience...we decided to go here for a quick bite for lunch cause of the yelp reviews ect.. so we pull into the parking lot and I pull up near the main entrance. I open my car door and before I set my foot down there's a big splatter of puke...yes someone threw up chunks and it's been there for a while...so moving forward..taking a huge step out of my car and trying to keep my appetite going. There's a tiny entrance between the two doors into the dining room and it had an old dusty uncomfortable odor... dining room is empty, one guy at their counter a couple in the booth and a family of 4 at a table at the far end of the room...my 7 year old decided to sit in the middle of the room at a table so she can watch the train go all the way around above the windows. That part was pretty cool. There's one waiter running the floor, he was about 18 give or take, big smile, very friendly, gave us our menus and offered to take our drink order but we asked for a couple of minutes to decide. The menu was alright as in cleanliness... foggy plastic.. eh I'm not picky... I unroll my daughter's silverware from the paper napkin and all of her silvware had a white foggy film over them, tried rubbing it off with the napkin thinking they were just water spots...uhm, no... I unroll mine and I got lucky with a clean spoon, my mom's silverware was tolerable she was able to wipe hers clean...with that said we decided to have deserts and drinks at this point. I order an iced-tea and a banana split, mom ordered a black coffee and a warm apple pie slice...my daughter just wanted a single scoop vanilla ice cream. Waiter comes back after 5 minutes and tells me "sorry but we're out of bananas and we don't have the split, I apologize, can I get you anything else?" So I ask for just a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. Than wonder what he just said..."...we don't have the split.." ok? Whatever that meant. My mom had a view of the kitchen and she tells my 7 year old to look at the kitchen with her & my daughter says "look mommy there's a huge box of bananas " my mom notices too and we all laugh. I don't say anything ...at this point I just took a few pictures for fun and let it go. Ice cream was served with whip and chocolate drizzle and warm apple pie was served as a slice and than mashed up on a small plate - boom here's your pie now eat it - that's what I got out of it... we ask for the bill and as I'm looking it over I notice I got billed for an iced-tea that I never got served...so I go to pay $16.64 with a $20 bill, tell the boy to keep the change but I would like my iced-tea to go please. He just says " oh yea thanks and sorry about that". Got my tea and we left...real quick, not looking back. So maybe their actual food must be good? But as far as as cleanliness, service...well all in all we did not have a good experience. Dissapointed really. But the little train was cool....Sheldon would love this only for the train tho. Good luck and I hope others have a better experience than we did.

Cute and clean cafe with exceptional staff we had breakfast. Grandson had pigs in a blanket and loved it after Dylan helped with some yummy suggestions. Daughter had French toast and hash browns and I had the pork chop and eggs special which was very good with the exception of the chops which were very thin, tasteless and dry. Now let me explain the one star, our food was good! The services not so much, we were en route to Phoenix and we were hungry and stopped for brunch. Now we have had so much good luck with small mom and pop type restaurants this was no exception, UNTIL my husband went to pay the bill. The person who was running the register according to my husband snatched the bill and the money from his hand my husband got upset and snatched it back and re-handed it to him. When the man at the register was giving the change he threw it on the counter at my husband. I am not sure what motivated the cashier to be rude and only one thing comes to mind but I will not get into that. We thought about making this a routine stop when we go to Phoenix but not any more.

I love diners and this one had the perk of having a model train running around a track above the dining area--kept my eight year old grandson fascinated. Yes, route 66 restaurants are supposed to look aged and a little run down, but that should not prevent them from being clean. The floors, windows, chairs and booths all needed a good scrubbing. The service was fine and the food portions are large. My grandson had a cheeseburger and fries with a large glass of orange juice for $4.99. He said it all tasted great. I had an open face hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy for a little over $9. It was a little salty for my taste and the turkey was not thick slabs of turkey breast, but rather thin deli slices from a package. However the mashed potatoes had soft chunks of real potato in them, so pretty sure they were not some instant potatoes. Overall, OK, but not worth a second trip.

Great food and great customer service. I got the Belgian waffle with blue berries. I loved the trains and the owner even gave me a small tour, telling me about the train collection and showing me how the train set is powered and connected. There is a running model train that goes all the way around the room. My friends ordered the grilled chicken salad and the philly cheese steak and they enjoyed their meals too. Really fun little place to get a great breakfast when you're in flagstaff!

As we walked in my wife asked "Did you check the reviews before?" I said they were mixed. The place is dated and does look old outside and inside. It could use a little updating but it makes it feel like a diner. We sat ourselves, waitress noticed we had 2 kids and brought kids menus and crayons right away. She took our drink order quickly allowing us a few minutes to review the menu. Extensive list of omelets. Order by the # to make it easy for all. Meal was served as ordered, hash browns crispy as requested. While the place is a little tired looking the food was good. Bathrooms could use a cleaning.

The decor is a little drab and tired, however the food was delicious. The entrees were served fresh and hot. My baked potato was perfectly cooked, fried shrimp maybe slightly undercooked but not a real issue. This is clearly a local spot, and probably be much busier at breakfast time. To be clear: when they say "Northern Arizona's Largest Electric Train Display" they're talking about the track. Which is overhead, has NOTHING on or around it but a whopping 4-cars ( youtube.com/watch?v=-dBu… ). We went for the train; so, needless to say, I was disappointed. This is a great place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Other reviews on here say it is dated inside...hello....it is a Route 66/Railroad themed establishment. It is supposed to be dated. It adds to the nostalgia of the place! You can tell its theme style before you even get out of your vehicle. It is definitely a diner atmosphere inside which I believe is really cool. They have 66 omelet flavors (it sits on Route 66), and HUGE, delicious biscuits and gravy. There is something for everyone on the menu. "Those" potatoes for your side are delicious! Their burgers are awesome also! They always have a good selection of daily specials on the board as well. If you are in to trains it sits parallel to the BNSF mainline and Eastbound/Westbound trains go right by. The portions are well sized, so if you leave hungry its your fault! The staff is always great when I have been there. My coffee never is empty. It is a place that you see regulars, travelers, and everyone in between. For people who like a diner atmosphere, go in and try it. I did and enjoy it quite well! Great prices on the menu.

My wife and I dined at this establishment several times and we were impressed with the food and service. The day my Grandson was leaving for the Army we decided to have a going away breakfast for him (17 people). The service and food was good. I told this to the Manager. When we were leaving some of the girls and women in the party went into the ladies restroom, as they were at the sink a man came out of the stall. My wife came out and told me this and I immediately told the Manager, thinking he would like to know. The Manager rudely said to me "The men's room is out of order what do you want me to do call the cops", Being a new customer this upset me and my guests, some said they would not come back. I emailed the owner about the incident, but never heard from him. I have not been back since, although I liked the food and the service.

Too bad I cannot give them a "0" I had no idea they had a name for this place. The only sign visable from the street just says RESTAURANT. That should have given us a hint. We were starving and the big RESTAURANT sign was the first thing we saw. The people were friendly and service was quick. The food was nothing special. But tasted ok. Well... After we left, about an hour later, we had to make a mad dash for a gas station with a restroom. RIGHT, a MINOR case of food poisoning, Both of us got it, and we had two different items. The place didnt look dirty, not real clean though, but we of course didnt see the kitchen. If we were not an hour out of town I would have gone back and raised HELL. Stay clear, I would never enter their door again.

Very fluffy, pillowy pancakes, however they have a slightly bitter taste, not the normal slight sourness from buttermilk but like the taste of too much leavening and not enough sugar or salt to cover it. The pancakes weren't intolerable, but could be better for sure. Over-medium eggs were too runny, probably from using ice cold eggs instead of bringing them to room temperature first. Bacon was cooked to order and crispy without being on the burnt side. Decaf coffee was bleh, usual diner fare. The place was pretty messy, and the decor was dreary except for the model train running overhead which was a hit with the kids I saw. The staff was friendly except for one girl; she must have been having a bad day. Overall not terrible, not great.

I was a bad girl and was sticking with my stereotypical thought of diners that are attached to cheap hotels... they usually suck, therefore I just avoid wasting my money and don't go there. Until... we needed breakfast... and to leave asap... and had no idea where to go. Out comes my handy dandy Yelp app... and whaddaya know; this place sounds amazing! And it was. A very classic diner experience. Good food, great coffee, HUGE menu which included corned beef and HASH... um. Who has that on their menu these days here in AZ?? I haven't seen it. We got great service... you seat yourself and we were approached right away. Totally digging the little railroad track that travels above your head. So cute. Definitely worth it! The sign on the building only said "Restaurant" in big red letters (hence my terrible stereotyping)... just an fyi.

What a great little diner. My ex and I arrived 5 minutes before closing, on our 2-week Billings-to-Phoenix adventure, fresh from hiking around the south rim of the Grand Canyon and starving. Our phenomenal waitress (I wish I could remember her name) kept the place open for us and didn't rush us at all as we ordered and cracked jokes with her. When we were there they had a model train running around the periphery of the restaurant which was one of the neatest things I had seen in a diner. And I had to be dragged away by my ex for all the time I was taking snapping pictures of their terrific neon sign. It's still one of my favorite pictures from the whole trip. I highly recommend this place. Great food, iconic and convenient location, beautiful old building, nice decor inside, and fantastic service.

This place has your typical diner food and they do it well. I had the open faced turkey sandwich and my hubby the meatloaf and they were great. Our kids had pancakes, and even off the kids menu those pancakes were huge! More food than we had, but they were so good our kids polished them off. But the stellar part of this place was the staff and service. We we the only ones there, but our food came out quickly. But she had forgotten to place mine and apologized. She said that my meal was on her, even though a few minutes later mine came out. But even better was, our two year old left her stuffed puppy. She will not sleep without this thing, and they mailed it to us and we got it two days later. They didn't even ask us for postage. So thank you staff! You made our week awesome!

Old dinner attached to a motel on route 66. Decent diner food. Just ok, not great. Had the enchilada breakfast special based on another review. It was ok. The point here is that you get a lot of food for cheap. My food was under $8 and was plenty. I would recommend this place for students, people on a budget, or families with small children(they have a railroad theme). If you are a foodie or are searching for something special, look elsewhere. You will probably be disappointed.

There are two crown railroad cafes in Flagstaff. Both serve very good meals at reasonable prices. The serving sizes are large. My favorite for breakfast because I love mexican food and oooey gooey cheese is the breakfast special for 7.98. Three big cheese enchilladas with rice and beans plus two eggs on top and hash browns. That will take care of you till breakfast the next morning. My wife's love for breakfast (my wife and I are locals) is the parfait which she adores. The crown railroad is also famous among locals for it's menudo and pasole which are available only on weekends. Menudo is tripes and pasole is homony soup. Menudo is the standout among those who like tripe as being one of the best in Flagstaff. They take all credit cards but don't like to take Amer. Express because as one of the managers put it, it puts too much work for the book keeper (awwwww) Anyway everything else is great.

very nice homey restauraunt! the food was good (but how can you screw up breakfast?), the view was awesome (yes, the train tracks, but do you know how many trains go through Flagstaff? its mindboggling to us city slickers!) , and the staff was very, very nice... Emily was awesome, and was very able to accomodate a large group, remember orders, and still have a sense of humor to go with it... we actually came back the next day, but we had a different waitress, who was... well... nice, but didint have the same flair... im impressed by flair... what can i say? nice restauraunt, good food, good service!
