Our family favorite! Anytime we don't work on a Thursday or Friday night, we go for the 2/$11 special . My 2 and 4 year old have been going here since they could eat solids and the staff is always great. The sushi is great. You don't get tiny rolls like the other places. If you have a birthday you want to make a big deal out of, come here!

Not good for sushi and especially not good for teppan. Recently went for the first time to celebrate a birthday for a friend. Party of eight and we were seated right away and orders taken quickly. Service was very fast and efficient here. Not complaining about the customer service at all in this review. All but one of us ordered the teriyaki steak and scallop combo. Each person ordered steak to be cooked differently: well done, medium, medium rare, well, med rare, etc. Teppan chef arrived and with one burst of showman flame, he started cooking. No tricks, no banter, nothing from the chef and no more fire after that. I watched as he took everyone's steak, sliced it and cooked all together. No separation happened with regard to the meat prep order and everyone got the same thing dumped on their plate, even the people who didn't order the steak and scallops. Scallops were severely undercooked, which I absolutely hate and didn't eat but one of. The meat was bland, without flavor or seasoning, and boring with regard to what a teppan show should be. Sushi was not any better. Poorly prepared rice, which was not seasoned, and roll contents very bland. The spicy tuna was anything but and the spider roll was just sad, lacking flavor and crunch. Lastly, we got Teppan Fuji's own "show" from start to finish. Before we finished eating, the cleaner came through with a bucket of water to clean the grill/flat top. The steam of dirty cleaning water was very entertaining, I must say, and at that point I was truly finished eating here. Disgusting. I'm glad the venture is over and done with and that I know to decline when another happening happens here. Save your money and fire up the grill at home. It will be ten times better than the food here.

For being in the mountains and not near fresh fish... This is very very good sushi. Always pleased with the freshness, quality, taste and presentation.

The waiter nicely asked everyone who ordered steak how he/she wants the steak done, so we have all the way from rare, medium rare, to medium. However the chef just stirs all steaks together and served them in random orders. Why bother asking if they don't care how each guest wants his steak ? And I haven't mentioned the quality of steak is sirloin chunks which looks like leftover and on sale for $0.99 /lb at supermarkets.

As far as teppans go, Fuji has the swiftest service. We ate here on New Years Eve 2013 and were not disappointed. The food was delicious (mmm filet mignon) and the staff was friendly. They also had a great live musician there! However, we did not get an elaborate chef show. I think we saw less than 5 tricks? (Tricks is what you call it, right?) This is probably because they were busy, possibly short staffed for the teppanyakis.

I had the rainbow roll and ikura (salmon roe). It was very good and I would definitely recommend these two items. However, they did not have calamari available, which was a first for me because most places do have calamari available. As for service, it was good, but the server was not fully knowledgable on some items regarding the sushi rolls. All in all, it was a good experience.

Very good food, only giving 4 stars because we were there on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty, staff started getting ready to leave and our waitress left before we were done. She had someone from the kitchen come out and check us out. And we didn't just walk in before they closed either. They close at 9 and we were there at 8 pm. Staff started leaving at about 10 to nine. I would go back, only maybe on a Friday or Saturday night and earlier. But we were traveling and we don't live in Flagstaff.

If I could give this place no stars I would. I have been here at least 5 times thinking that the service was just bad that once and willing to give it another try.... Last week was the LAST time I will ever visit. Our server abandon us right after ordering and never came to check on us once. We had to ask other servers to fill up our water and fetch our sushi that had been sitting on the counter waiting for us for a solid 20 minutes before making it to our table (and we never saw our original server the rest of the night by the way). We asked to speak to the manager at the end of our meal and when she came over she was rude and condescending. Telling us that the service was bad because they were busy... THAT IS NOT AN EXCUSE!!!! She never said sorry once or offered us free mochi or anything to turn around the awful dinning experience we just had. We were tempted to not even pay for the meal at this point, and we definitely didn't tip them! Stay far away from this place unless you want mediocre food and AWFUL SERVICE. The manager should care more about her customers that keep her establishment in business.

I came in for lunch, i was greeted right away and shown to my table. It was nice to know that I was offered teppanyaki with out a reservation (good for future reference) service was exceptional and prompt. Food quality was delicious and fresh. Sushi rolls were of average portion (not bad) especially because the didn't overload the roll with a lot of rice. I will be coming back! I forgot to see if they had happy hour specials.

Rude restaurant owners. Not impressed when we heard the owner instructed our waiter to "get us out" soon after food was thrown at us. Food was rushed and overly salted. My wife ordered salmon and filet mignon combination. Salmon was burned and filet was doused with salty sauce. Totally not worth the money. The cook has no skill on the teppanyaki grill. No showmanship. Simply not recommended.

I came here on a date and from california the sushi here was pretty plain. They had typical sushi nothing special. It was also over priced for something you can get at the super market. I think they teppan looked really fun though. Anyways, if you're looking for good unique sushi, this isn't the place.

Worst quality food I've ever experienced. I ordered medium rare filet Mignon and it was like rubber with no pink meat to be found. I seriously doubt that the meat was even close to filet Mignon and even top sirloin would have been an upgrade. I wouldn't have given that to my dog. They didn't care and the cook was the worst. No seasoning added to any of the meat or seafood. Rice was even worse. He cooked the entire meal in less then 10 minutes. Stay away from this over priced garbage. The management and owners are the worst.

  • Lynn M.

The food was great! I've never had better sushi and the teppanyaki was delicious. The reasons that I am not giving five stars are that it was cold where we were sitting, the chef didn't actually put on the show that is typically associated with teppanyaki, and it was hard to get the attention of a waitress when we needed to know if something contained peanuts (severe allergy). The price of the sushi was surprisingly low for how good it was!

Came here last night with the kids. Sat in the Teppan side (sushi side was really booming) food was tasty and prepared quickly (chef did a couple flair things but we had all our food fast) it was just what we needed with two hungry kids. Steak was prepared perfectly and was very tender. We'll be back.

Overall terrible food and service. I rarely complain, but after being letdown with dried out chicken, a missing appetizer, mediocre sushi, and a long wait time, I find myself giving this restaurant a poor review. I requested to speak with the manager, to kindly let them know of our dissatisfaction, and received the response "there is no manager".

I love this place! Sushi isn't the best I've ever had but really good! Thursday and Friday nights they have a list of rolls that are two for $10! Amazing deals since some on those rolls are $10 themselves. I definitely recommend this place.

Subpar service, sushi was gummy, edamame was dry. Seriously disappointing food. The ambiance is alright but it was excessively hot. The tables were crowded so we heard everything out neighbors said. Not worth the $$.

  • Lauren R.

Best Japanese steak house in town and great sushi as well! Possibly the best hamachi sashimi I've ever had and I eat a lot of sushi. The lunch specials are great as well and they have a dinner specials that are pretty darn great. I highly suggest this place if you're looking to do something diffferent and prices are good enough it doesn't have to be a special occation!

I would want to give this zero stars if I could. This was the absolute worst restaurant experience I have ever had. First off we had to wait for 20 minutes up front before anyone even greeted us. Our server was so bad and gave horrible service, the food took an hour, and then our sever proceeded to talk to the woman next to us about going out and drinking at the bars when we had already asked her for extra plates and napkins and were still waiting. By the time she was done talking (25 mins later) my friend and I had already finished our sushi. We asked to speak to a manager and a woman came over, who spoke hardly any English said there "WAS NO MANAGER" and all she could say was "sorry". I will NEVER go back here again, choose a different place for sushi! And the food wasn't very good at all.

So um yea this place SUCK!!!!! We came in to get a table for 2 for "sushi" when someone else came in right behind us asking for a table for two and got one right away with no reservation. so we ended up sitting and waiting for a table for about 20 minuets.... not cool! then we finally get a tablr and our waitress comes brings us only one menu...and its missing half of the menu.. AND THEN SHE NEVERS COMES BACK.... so I grabbed some random person from across the restaurant so I can finally put my order in......30min later!!!! this place has a really lack of order and staff problem....

  • William S.

They wont let me give zero stars. I'm sitting here watching my 4th Teppanyaki show, waiting for the 2 sushi rolls I ordered about an hour ago. They just informed mine will be "out next," and that they are "backed up." A warning up front would have been nice. Also, I ordered "Asahi" and got "a sake." Just sayin'.

First time here! Will return when in Flagstaff! We stay at the Motel 6 down the street and have eaten at the nearby Indian Restaurant twice...disappointing twice. So I looked for something else close to the hotel since I drove 13 hours from OKC! My wife and I both love sushi, but she was skeptical at my suggest. We passed by before they opened and she was impressed by the menu and layout. We returned at 5 PM and were their first dinner customers. The owner and his wife work behind the sushi bar. While the waitstaff was nice, they were totally inexperienced in Japanese food. All items were ala carte. We asked about a sashimi plate, since their was none on the menu, The owner came over and we discussed our desires and he said he could make a 15 or 20 piece sashimi plate for us and we said GO! IT was a fantastic. Unfortunately no Uni till Thursday. We also enjoyed 5 piece shrimp tempura and soft shell crab. My only complaint was the the soft shell crab order included only 1 small crab. Good Miso soup and rice. Rinsed down with a large Kirin Ichinban. Could not understand pricing on Happy Hour combos. Prices for the combos was higher than ordering ala carte! Teppanyaki grills looked OK, but we prefer sushi and sashimi. Good sign was that a group of Japanese students stopped in and go Boat Loads of rolls. Seemed to be regulars. One was flying to Japan the next day and wanted a final dinner here! Oyshi Ne!

1)the dinning area is spacious and clean. 2)happy hour special is reasonable priced. 3)food is above average.

Came here again. Still pretty good food and still a pretty great experience. Still wish they had better sushi! Had some of their sashimi, not the most fresh tasting I've had.

I am a sushi fanatic and this is hands down the best place to get sushi in Flagstaff. You can go to Karma if you are downtown and they are excellent, but the portions are not as large for the price, you are paying for atmosphere and location. Teppan Fuji is where it's at for serious sushi fanatics, plus it still has a nice atmosphere and more seating than Karma. My only complaint about this place would be that the service is not top notch, but definitely not bad in the least bit.

  • Larr G.

This place continues to be the best place in Flagstaff to get Sushi. The service is always good and the Sushi is well above average. Excellent specials. We have come to know many of the servers, most of whom are NAU students. They tend to stay for a while so the know the menu and can help with suggestions.

    (5)
  • Sarah Y.

Hiro's and Karma are both higher quality than Teppan Fuji, but it is a decent place for a reasonably priced Japanese lunch or dinner. Vegans and vegetarians be warned: they do not offer a vegan or vegetarian lunch special, but if you look at the regular sushi list you can find plenty of delicious veggie-friendly rolls.

  • Lila J.

I love their krokke (sp?), they are deep fried mashed potatoes breaded with the flakes used on the tempura. Their tempura is the best in town, by the way. Heavenly light! They are always so nice and it has the feel of a reall japanese restaurant, not fusion, not trendy.

Best Japanese restaurant in Flag. Freshest sushi and low prices compared to others in town.

When seeking sushi at 7,000 feet elevation obviously YMMV. But I've been a big fan of Fuji for a while now. Most people come here for the rolls, especially their 2 for $10 deals. Other have complained about slow service and I must admit when their roll special is on they do get pretty backed up, but only because the special is so crazy popular: come in a little early, say before 7, and service won't be a problem. The salmon skin roll is a favorite (the smoked bonito flakes give it a nice zing) and coral reef is good too. I like nigiri and they do a excellent job with fresh fish and sizable portions. The seafood salad, the scallop dynamite and broiled yellowtail collar (when they have it) are also good go to dishes. Not a teppan fan, but the folks on that side of the restaurant always look like they're having a great time.

  • Nathan P.

This place used to be the only sushi I would go to when they always had the killer 2 for basically $10 thing going on. Still really good sushi since prices went up and it's still reasonable. Being a newer restaurant, they have much to do to make a name. Not in the best location to be a hot spot restaurant by any means. Staff has always been friendly and the Teppan grill is always really good too. Check it out, you won't be disappointed! Similar to Sakura but way cheaper.

  • Tressa M.

Exactly what we were looking for that night. The food was really fresh and not too fishy! We tried several rolls and it was perfect for two. Both of our favorite was the spicy scallop and the sashimi. We enjoyed everything we ordered and our server was very helpful. The seating was a little close for us and kind of awkward if you're on a date. A little but pricey, but worth it!

Terrible, irresponsible servers. Mediocre food. Wife had food allergy,we specified that food should be not cross contaminated. Waiter messed that up, and wife got very very sick. Waiter just walked away after mentioning near end of meal that he hadn't informed chef of special instructions. Walked out with out paying to go to ER. Avoid.

Wow i was not expecting this place to look as good as it did! Had all the tempan flavors that I was looking for. As you know, no tampanyaki is complete without showmanship. That was great too! But the god forsaken waitress forgot almost everything that we ordered. No appetizer, no drink order. Finally I had to remind her. Even after that she still forgot the appetizer. She was nice enough of a waitress, but if you can't remember to get the orders, than there's no point in working in a restaurant.

I have only had very positive experiences here however I have always ordered to-go. The sushi is fresh and always awesome. I will continue to come here and order from this restaurant. I especially love their two for ten rolls.

In every city my husband and I visit, and there have been many over the years, we always make it a point to try out the teppan places. This, by far, was the worst experience and food ever! First of all, the chef was an older white guy; not your typical teppan-looking chef. Not that that in itself is a bad thing. We've had awesome Caucasian, Latino, and even female chefs at other places who were 100 times better than this guy. Literally, he did no show, he was dripping sweat, and the food was disgusting. He poured a ton of sesame seed oil, and sesame seeds into the fried rice. To me, sesame seed oil smells like bad dog breath, so that pretty much spoiled the fried rice for me. The vegetables were literally slaughtered into tiny pieces and included cabbage. Soggy cabbage - gross! I ordered my steak medium rare and got well done. The soup was a bland and oily beef broth, not miso. The dipping sauces were flavorless. The unfriendly waiter kept forgetting to bring things and we had to ask for things that should have been done without having to ask. The sushi we ordered came after the teppan chef came out. The only positive thing I could find about this place was that the small salad with ginger dressing was good. No one working there had a smile on their face, and looked at you like they wished you had never came in. The prices were typical, but at least at most other teppan restaurants we didn't mind paying a little more because we get a great show and awesome food. Paying this bill; however, felt like highway robbery.

Food is usually good but servers are really poorly trained. Waitress said, "sorry for the wait but it did say on the menu that we're slow, so I guess you can't do anything." Grrr. It would have been okay had she actually check in before 45 minutes had elapsed.

    (1)
  • Nicole S.

I've only been here once since it changed locations. We got there a little late and the servers were obviously annoyed. My boyfriend ordered tempura, I had the sesame chicken. The food was pretty good, but my chicken was overcooked and had absolutely no sauce on it- it was just fried chicken. I had to ask for a side of teriyaki. It was too expensive for the quality of food that you receive.

My girl and I had been traveling all over Texas for a week or so and were tired of filling up on bbq and steak. We wanted something a bit different and figured teppan grill dining would fill that void. While traveling back to Cali we stopped in Flagstaff for one night and found Teppan Fuji via iphone. My girl had the chicken and shrimp dinner and I had the teriyaki steak and some ahi tuna sushi. Of course, with teppan grill dining, you get all the sides - fried rice, shrimp sample, grilled veggies, soup, and salad. They were all outstanding! The teppan chef was fun and entertaining. Of all the meals we had on our trip through TX, AZ, & NM I think this might have been the most pleasing. We had a nice wide variety of dishes and flavors in a pleasant atmosphere with great service. The tuna sushi was fresh and clean tasting and we both very much enjoyed our experience there. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable.

Sushi is suppose to be a special food with the highest quality ingredients. Any place that serves frost bitten, over cooked edamame automatically doesn't get past the appetizer stage with me. I found it particularly offensive that this place was actually run by Japanese owners. Take more pride in your one of your cultures most iconic foods. I'm really sick of the degradation of the sushi eating experience. I'll wait until my next trip to Vegas or LA for trustworthy fish. Good luck eating anything raw here.

got to say just had dinner last night and I was very surprised to have had a really good time and excellent food. Started with some rolls part of the 2 for $10 all were good and fresh tasting. On to soup, salad and main course of chicken and steak, Lots of food all done in front of you with humorous flair. Different specials every night. Looking forward to returning and trying some other things on the good sized menu.

Best teppanyaki in town! However, we only have two to choose from... The staff is great, always very friendly.

I'm a fan and part of the high ratings is because they have really good deals here! Their sushi is not really that good. The only thing I really like there is their red dragon roll. The siracha on top makes it taste really good. Besides that, every thing I would consider below average. I would only go for the 12 dollar days, where you get two orders of sushi for 12 dollars. It barely satisfies my sushi cravings, since I'm from Vegas and I'm used to delicious all-you-can-eat sushi. The teppan, however, is very good. Maybe because on certain days for their special, they include a 32 oz Sapporo and sake bombers with a whole meal for 15 dollars. This is including a salad, fried rice, a vegetable medley and scallops and steak. The experience is made better or worse with the chef, but either way it's still delicious. I would only come here for certain days, but when there's a deal, it's totally worth it, especially for a college student!

I had a fine experience, only made a little less pleasant by a skin and bones "William S" who was sitting at the next table and still hadn't gotten his food. Yikes. I hope for his sake his order really is "almost ready."

Worst experience ever. Food was ok, but the overall experience was as bad as it gets. Habachi cook never introduced himself and basically just prepared food in front of us. The whole idea of "interaction" with your customer was lost. No vulcano or other " tricks" and it took him less than 10-12 minutes to get it done. Why pay that kind of money if I can get the same food somewhere else. Don't go there.

  • Grace K.

Love this place!! Every day from 5-7PM is happy hour!!! I always go for the Teppan and they do offer vegetarian dishes. It's right there on the menu I don't understand why people are saying there isn't. They should open their eyes??!! And you can always substitute their soups for Miso. Havent tried their sushi. Being from Los Angeles, I have not found a place that has fresh enough fish in this small town.

This is a great place for lunch and dinner. The food is very fresh and well-seasoned, the teppan chefs are very entertaining. It's located in a bit of an out of the way place - in a new shopping center above the WalMart. Well worth the effort to find it! The staff is very friendly and accommodating as well.
