This was the perfect breakfast joint for our family vacation along Route 66. One of my kids is in love with the 50s era and she was thrilled with the waitresses outfits and hairdos, the pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and Audrey Hepburn on the walls and the sweet and delicious shakes that come in 100 flavors! (Yes, we ordered a milkshake with breakfast!) We ordered eggs, pancakes, waffles, omelet--all satisfied!

Came in for breakfast on our way out of town and had a delicious meal. I'm a biscuits and gravy foodie and they were on point! Excellent service, cool decor and reasonable prices

Waited 20 minutes. Drinks ordered. Never came. Never saw another waitress. 2 waiting on whole place. If prices are too good to be true they probably are. Cleanliness not at the top of the priority list. Headed over to Mike and Rhonda's.

50's style diner with a great variety in dishes against low costs. I ate the Galaxy burger and instead of having fries on the side, I could also choose a plate of fresh fruit, which was really nice. The burger had the right size and came on a decent bun. Taste was good, I didn't even notice I forgot to put ketchup on the burger, untill I almost finished it.

Pretty average food but just what we needed after a long days drive. I had the BLT and the house salad. The house salad was crisp and fresh and the BLT was pretty standard. We finished our meals off with some dessert. I had the Cookie Monster which was delicious and my sister got the orange dream shake. Our waitress was nice and the atmosphere was great. Such a cool place to eat. I really liked the setting.

This 50s themed classic diner celebrates its location on route 66 and throws in some space/galaxy stuff for the fun of it. My eight year old grandson had the hot diggity dog corn dog, fries, and chocolate shake. I had the Galaxy cheeseburger with a chocolate malt, onion rings, and pickle spear. Food and service were very good. The bill for all this bounty was $17. They have swing dancing on Saturday evenings. We may come back to join in the fun.

Mixed bag. Stopped here because it was close to hotel and looked interesting. Average food but ice cream soda and root beer float were pretty good. Poor service, got my wife's order wrong and slow getting food out of kitchen. Good Saturday night entertainment kept us at our table to order the soda and float. Enjoyed the classic rock and rockabilly. Giving it a pass for breakfast, should be able to find better.

We went on a trip with my son and wanted to share The Galaxy experience with him. It was not the experience I expected. The place was filthy and as we were arriving the manager was leaving the bathroom zipping his pants....guessing he didn't wash his hands. Gross!!! There was one waitress and she looked bummed to be there. The manager was worse as he was looking up stuff about Will Ferrill's spring training that occured on the previous day. There was a bullethole in the window and a group of college kids talking about getting drunk and high. Another family with small child were present to hear all the cursing and inappropriate behavior....the manager said/did nothing. Turkey sandwich was weird tasting and didn't look fresh... Food was a 3/10 service 0/10 atmosphere 0/10. Overall it was awful.....dont waste your money.

Ilove spreading the good news but sometimes I need to warn the unsuspecting. This morning's breakfast experience at Galaxy was the worst. The service was slow and there were only maybe 8 other tables. When the food arrived after about 25 minutes everything was dripping in grease, overcooked, and hardly warm. I had an omelet with potatoes and pancakes. My friend had the fried egg sandwich. I love greasy spoons and greasy food but this was beyond greasy. I like the RT.66 atmosphere and to be straight forward the last time I was here I ordered the $3.99 breakfast special but had low expectations anyway. Sorry Galaxy but this morning's meal was so bad I won't be coming there for breakfast anymore. BTW, the coffee tasted worse than coffee at AA meetings. BOYDS is terrible.

  • Moriah W.

The service was very friendly. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the decor was nice. The food was good, typical diner flavor. What you would expect. But TONS of options, on everything. Definitely would stop by again, if I wasn't on my way to Texas!

Nice interior, bad service. Waited five minutes before even greeted at the counter. Took 3 minutes to get a refill on a cup of coffee. Expectations high due to being a local landmark on the mother road, but can't say I will ever eat here again when in Flagstaff. Don't care how busy a place is, certain expectations and steps always need to be filled. A large group of customers have been waiting at least 30 minutes to get sat, being ignored by staff. Manager grumbling something about letting the kitchen catch up a bit. Also, hours posted are 6 am opening. Were not open yesterday at 0600 nor at 0700 as stated by manager opening yesterday.

I loved the food I got the half sammie with soup or salad, and fries. Which was scrumptious. Also I love the variety of shakes. 100 different flavors!!! ack! I got the butterfinger oreo and my roommate got the strawberry cheesecake and we both wanted to marry them. SO GOOD!

  • David S.

The classic grease-laden comfort food you desire from a diner, but extremely negligent service, to be nice about it. Couldn't dream of recommending this place to anyone basically ever.

  • Marcie N.

Not a great experience..sad the Decor was the best part..meat was burnt..When the waitress tried to fix it it was raw. Over charged on flap jacks..wasted time and money

  • Rachel W.

Love the decor and vibe at Galaxy Diner. I swear there is crack in their pancakes, they are THAT good. The service is okay/borderline bad, and sometimes it takes a bit to get your food. I love going for their $3.99 breakfast special though, you really can't beat that price!

  • Justin B.

I wasn't expecting a steak house steak but the food should be warm. The soda had zero carbonation. The waitress said the co2 ran out but she served it anyway. The steak, toast and my daughters mac n cheese showed up cold after a long wait. The vegetables were freezing.

Love the atmosphere the servers are friendly food is good for the price will remind you of your younger days

Best shakes ever!! Food is very good.burgers are juicy and not over cooked. Onion rings are good and crispy. ..but the shakes you have to leave room for. They are big and yummy!

    (5)
  • Rob B.

The prices of the breakfast specials are good on the surface ($3.99) but when you consider what you get to eat, the meals are not really bargains.....there were three in my party when I stopped in and we tried three of the four regular breakfast specials, #1, #3, & #4. ....the biscuits were actually rolls with "warm" "NOT hot" gravy. The two tiny 5 inch pieces of bacon seemed almost absent next to the somewhat soggy pile of hash brown potatoes. One of my fried eggs looked like it was half missing when my plate arrived at the table. Overall no one in my group was satisfied with the experience.

Good food with good prices, The server was very attentive. The atmosphere adds to the experience. Worth stopping in.

Let's see...when reading the menu your kinda undecided on what to get. They describe the HUGE portions of each dish. And doesn't matter what American dish your craving, they just might have it. I ordered the fried zuchinni to share with my mom - good. But there hot when they first come to the table, don't be like my mom and immediatly reach, dip and bite into it. She panted like a dog letting everyone see the half eaten piece hanging out of her mouth. LOL - gross. I got the chicken penne...the spicy one. It was pretty good, huge serving. But the chicken reminded me of the pre cooked pieces you get in a bag from the freezer section. The sauce was really good and the garlic toast, for some reason, was really tasty to me. My mom ordered the pulled BBQ pork sandwhich. It came with the slaw INSIDE the burger. Mom didn't like that and scraped it off. But of course, after taking a bite of the sandwhich and a taste of the slaw, she decided it WAS good and proceeded to put the slaw back IN the burger - LOL. I had a couple pieces of the pulled pork and it was really good. My mom raved about the fries. She finished the whole thing, so it must have been good. I think this place was known for their shakes, beacause I seen people walking out with them. Sitting and only ordering them. Also, the 100 different flavors does help. I got the Caramel Coffee shake to go. It was delicious! The one interesting and WTH moment was when the waitress sat me, she told me that the older gent talking might come over and starting talking to us. If he starts to bother, let her know and she'll chase him off. ?? LOL

My husband, son & I ate dinner last night at the Galaxy Diner. We were greeted like we were family and told to sit wherever we wanted. The decor was right out of an old diner. Tons of pictures on the walls, a jukebox in the corner and a full wall dedicated to Marilyn Monroe. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive. We ordered the appetizer sampler. It was buffalo wings, chicken strips, onion rings, fried zucchini and jalapeño poppers. It was all delicious. We were shocked by the portion size...HUGE!!! My son and I had the melt for our meal and it was cooked perfectly, the rye bread was YUMMY, and the French fries were Awesome. My husband had the California burger and it too was great. Strong coffee and great iced tea. We were too full for dessert. The desert menu had 100 different types of shakes and at least 20 different desserts to choose from. The next time we visit Flagstaff we will absolutely be returning to The Galaxy Diner. Only next time I will eat dessert First!!!!

I have been to Galaxy Diner twice now and have been more than happy with each experience. Our waiter the last time we went was super friendly, helpful, and checked in just the right amount of times. I hate when waiters forget about your table or hover too much, and he clearly did neither. The selection at Galaxy is amazing for its milkshakes! A bunch of friends and I went for breakfast, so there were lots of different orders and checks to keep track of. Our waiter handled it well and it was easy for us. I had a waffle which was delicious. It was light, fluffy, but crispy. It wasn't too sweet, but it still had good flavor. I also ordered 2 eggs, bacon, and the potatoes (not hash browns, forgot the name of the other preparation). The bacon wasn't particularly a standout, but I was happy with the overall meal. It was affordable and the restaurant had a great environment. Definitely recommend for a quick and cheap breakfast.

I lived very close to the Galaxy Diner and have been there numerous times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their atmosphere is a classic 50s diner with neon lights and pictures of Elvis. They even have live music and swing dancing. The service has always been friendly and helpful. My favorite thing to order is the Monster Mash Hash. Very good value and super tasty! They even serve beers. Their burgers and sandwiches are pretty good and they have a variety of delicious milkshakes. Do come here for breakfast and lunch. Watch out for the Pothole in the parking lot! Overall, it's a nice diner in the middle of Flagstaff who will serve you good food with a smile.

Just needed a place to stop and get lunch. The food very mediocre--overlooked wings but still tolerable. What I can't tolerate is a sever who have an attitude and very unfriendly and makes it obvious that she does not like her job. Get another job!

  • Joseph S.

Average. Everything was just average. Good in a way cause that means nothing was bad but can't we strive for more than just average? I think so, which is why I will likely not return anytime soon.

Galaxy Diner is a decent greasy spoon for some cheap breakfast, lunch, and dinner eats. I've popped in a few times for breakfast when I don't feel like battling the long lines at La Bellavia, MartAnne's, or Macy's. The service can be slow and spotty, the coffee is weak, and I think '50s style diners are jive, but they do make a good country fried steak and eggs. The bacon isn't that great here. Portions are huge and prices are good. There are better places for breakfast in Flagstaff, but as far as Route 66 diners go...not bad.

  • A V.

Waitress was busy but friendly, three lil piggies omelet was great, and the diner feel was authentic. Will come back again soon. Coffe was nothing to write.home about, but so is every other diner.

Decided to stop on by since it was close. I am a huge hash brown fan but the waitress said that they were out at the time. =( So we opted for the Diner Spuds as an alternative. A little hard to chew with some of the slices being slightly over cooked (burnt edges). Also had their biscuits & gravy. I was excited! Who can deny biscuits & gravy. You can still taste the hint of the powder or what ever they used to make sure they have enough with as little ingredients added as possible. You remember when you were little and you told your mom (or dad) that you were almost out of Kool-Aid? "Just add water to it!" is what I remember... Yup, gravy... On the brighter side. The waitress got an A++ for being attentive and we never finished our drinks before getting another full glass placed on our table. 1 - 5 Cost: 4 Meals: 3 Service: 5

We are in flagstaff for a couple of days and decided to have lunch here today. The food is okay, some of it seemed like it may have been ready before the rest and sat under a heat lamp for some time. I would probably rate the food three stars, however, I had to subtract a star for the service. We sat for a long time waiting for our food after ordering. The server was nice, but we barely saw her and when we did, we had to wave her down, most of the time she didn't see us. It was quite frustrating. If you are going to eat here, try to come at a time when they are not at all busy, because they seem to be terribly understaffed.

  • Chris T.

I love this place. The Route 66 mythos bleeds out of this building. Milkshakes a plenty and burgers and fries nice greasy breakfast items. It's a quint essential 50s style diner. They have swing dancing on certain nights and oh course a big jukebox in the lobby. Nice to see some of that nostalgia on a piece of the mother road if your passing threw flagstaff on the way to see the canyon.

For my first time i have to say never again. I was hoping for a good old fashioned hamburger. But what I received was nothing close. Processed patty, frozen lettuce, and horrible service. Received my drink, had to ask for a refill. Server never checked on me to see if my food was good. Nothing. Will not be returning

  • Jj H.

Food was a disaster.the special was the smallest steak I have ever seen and the only thing hot was the plate. If the food was not cold it was burnt and the fish sandwich had bones.the server was polite and friendly

I've heard great things about this place. Recommended by a staffer from the nearby Lowell Observatory, but when we showed up, it was closed. The times listed on Yelp are incorrect. Call ahead if you are hoping to have a classic experience on Historic Rt 66. Looks like a treasure, and a nice waiter from a nearby Denny's, where we ended up having our great milkshakes, said Galaxy IS the best. For what it's worth, the Denny's waiter was super nice and we had a good experience there, if you need a plan B. Next time.

I wouldn't recommend this place. It looked run down and dirty. Only ate there because it was late, my husband and I were tired and hungry, and this is what we came across. Even the women's bathroom was run down and dirty. Food was ok. Had a chicken sandwich with some green chili sauce and some fries. Fries tasted as though they have been out awhile.

    (2)
  • Rachel R.

Shame on me, I didn't get any ice cream. However, fun atmosphere! The reason for only 3 stars, however, was the food. It was just not that exciting and not made that well. Completely average diner fair. Service was fine, but for a place like this, I expected more personality. Price, on the other hand, was great. Quite cheap in fact. Anyway, it's a decent location and convenient.

Gettin' my kicks, on Route 66, which I do a leg of at least a couple times per year. Most recently, tooling thru Flagstaff, I came across the Galaxy Diner, a joint I hadn't noticed before. It had a lot of promise from the get go - great neon, roadside location on 66, lots of chrome inside and out. Every inch of the interior walls were covered with memorabilia, movie stars, music, platters. All the trappings of the 50s and 60s, existing in an age where only old fuckers like me 'get it'. If I took Mrs. BDB in this kind of place, she'd stare blankly at the photos and say "who are all these people?" (She's a young'un). So I felt instantly at home at the Galaxy, and stopped to eat breakfast, cause I love diner breakfasts, any time of day or nite, and most great diners serve breakfast any time, day or nite. It didn't take long with the menu to spy my choice: the "MONDO". An 'oversized' portion of chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, 'diner potatoes', and 3 eggs your style. (Over easy, please). In almost as little time, my affable server appeared with my selection, and didn't need to ask if I wanted any additional condiments, a full selection on every table. The 50s and 60s music provided a nice ambiance this sunny Arizona morn, with the only anachronism was a couple of large televisions blaring CNN. Wish they'd lose those. My plate lived up to its menu description, there were two over-sized slabs of CFS, the three eggs were done perfectly, the "diner potatoes" left a bit to be desired for my personal taste, but that's my fault, I should have asked for them to be extra crispy. They were thin-sliced taters grilled on the flattop. The oversized biscuit was drenched in sausage gravy, and the gravy was also adorning the steak. Bonus? The food was all perfectly seasoned, I tend to use way too much salt, and didn't raise the shaker once on my breakfast, after tasting the grub. This place, to me, was diner perfection. It's one of those places I want to poke my head in the kitchen and tell the chef, "that was art."

Good breakfast after a bit of a wait. I'd pass on the biscuits and gravy next time, but my rocky mtn high omelet and hash browns were tasty. The chocolate malt for breakfast dessert was delish.

Been going here when I pass through Flagstaff for 15 years. Was busy for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Kids were bummed they didn't have chocolate chip pancakes like other chain breakfast places. They ended up ordering blueberry pancakes from the adult menu. My husband and I ordered an omelet and diner spuds (sliced potatoes w/ onions) and wheat toast and shared. Left full.

  • Kristen D.

This place was far from anything special. I felt like I could have probably went to A&W and gotten a better burger. 50's ambiance was fun but the place was not overly clean. This is really nothing to get excited about.

    (3)
  • Robyn M.

Okay food, but geez, management, could you clean the place once in a while? Our window was filthy from little sticky kid hands, the window next to us was broken, and the floor looked like it hadn't been scrubbed since 2001. Fly buzzing us during our meal. Manager who rang us up had a dirty sweatshirt on and needed a shave. If you are squeamish about dirt stay away, far away.

Oh Galaxy Diner, how I love thee. Let me rewind a bit and explain my love of this restaurant. The food is mediocre and the atmosphere is fun, but at face value it seems like just another greasy spoon. And, overall, it really is. However, for a vegetarian looking for a good veggie burger, this is the place! They allow you to substitute a veggie burger and veggie friendly options for all of the burgers and meat products on the menu. I know that doesn't sound very exciting to most of you, but you need to understand. As vegetarians/vegans, we spend most of our time at diners watching other people eat burgers with fun toppings and sides while we munch on fries, pancakes, or freezer-burnt garden burgers with little flavor or basically no toppings. So, the Galaxy Diner is a vegetarian's dream! They can enjoy all of the burgers and sandwiches on the menu without sacrificing their lifestyle/dietary needs.

Good diner food and big portions. We couldn't eat it all! Service was quick and friendly. If you are ever in Flagstaff, you won't be disappointed if you eat here.

  • Kierstyn H.

The service was slow, and the place wasn't busy. I ordered the pancakes and they weren't great, but they weren't bad. I also had hash browns and they were still wet and were on top of a layer of oil/water. It was cheap though.

Best. Ice cream shakes. Ever. Delicious. So many menu items you need to start with dessert while you're thinking it over.

  • Octar I.

It's a 4 star diner. If you come here looking for something else, you may disappointed. For diner, though, it's a good one. Loved the Route 66 ambience and the cheerful waitress wearing stars in her hair. The kids loved the ice cream and the fries. The Spouse said it was the best $10 steak he'd ever eaten and my fried chicken had a surprise bed of corn grits under it that were lovely. We both agreed that if we'd know the veggie was going to be corn (corn, mashed potatoes and gravy = too many carbs for us and not enough greens), we'd have ordered salads, but otherwise a very pleasant meal. They serve beer and wine which, after a day playing with the kids, is really very civilized.

  • Lisa S.

very fun, traditional decor. lots of stuff to look at and keep your interest. service was mediocre and we were only one of maybe 5 tables in the place. the food and coffee were good though. the potatoes were really good and the eggs were cooked to perfection and good prices.

  • Sharon M.

First time there today. Won't go back. Service terrible. Waited 45 minutes for a burger that was not real warm. The side pickle in plate looked old. We weren't asked for more coffee until we were about to leave .They stopped seating people because the kitchen was so slow and it wasn't very busy . The place is unkempt and needs cleaning as well as a facelift . Too bad it could be a gold mine . The idea of it could be good.

Come here for the good old-fashioned diner comfort food, not for high quality stuff. They do it well, they do it SO well. I always love getting their corned beef hash with eggs sunny-side up and some toast or biscuits and gravy that I can never finish. I've also had steak and eggs which were also delicious. The kind of greasy hangover food that is perfect for your stomach. Maybe that's why I always came here! My favorite are their wet fries. They have the battered fries that are just my absolute favorite, covered in gravy. Gravy and fries...it's just really hard for that to go wrong for me. I think my Canadian roots are showing. They don't put anything on it besides gravy either, which is just the way I love it. Of course it's not that hard to get this kind of food, but they really make it taste better for some reason. I love the atmosphere in here. I miss this place so much!

I don't knwo why Galaxy diner has such a low Yelp rating. People must come here with high expectations! My boyfriend and I ate here every day when we stayed here on vacation and we loved their breakfasts. I mean, you can get a HUGE meal here for less than $6. I love their blueberry pancakes, and it comes with toast, eggs, bacon, you name it. It was perfect for our mornings before heading to the Grand Canyon for a hike. Only problem is the service can be really really slow.

This place is just decent. As a vegetarian I ordered the blue moon burger but with a boca patty, my boca patty was very very pale, so it did not look appetizing. I cook boca burgers myself and they look more appealing than that. My burger was okay, but just okay. The fries were good. My friend got meat burgers and they said that their burgers were overcooked.

    (3)
  • Greg P.

First impression? Needs cleaning. Waitress wasn't thrilled to work there. Blueberry pancakes looked fantastic. Served with both blueberry syrup (which appeared to be homemade from the same blueberries used in the pancakes) and real maple syrup ( an extreme rarity for a diner). They use frozen little Maine blueberries instead of fresh big blueberries. I'd rather the fresh ones, as these were kind of mushy and the flavor wasn't great. The pancakes had a burnt taste that basically ruined my ability to enjoy them; The chef left them on the blueberry side too long; I think the griddle was set too high. The place has potential. I'm being generous with 3 stars; 2.5 would probably be more accurate.

We started with the fried zucchini which was very good, not the best we've ever had, but very good. I should note that my wife loves fried zucchini and gets it whenever and wherever it is available. We shared a chocolate malt and it was hands-down, the best chocolate malt either of us has ever had. Thick, rich, creamy and just the right amount of malt. My wife got a bacon burger and I got a turkey reuben. The burger had good taste, but was a bit underdone for her taste. The reuben was good, but the bread was toasted rather than grilled. The turkey was real hand carved which was a huge plus. It had a wonderful 50's diner look and feel with great neon signs and amazingly enough, live music on a Sunday night. We can now say that we have eaten in a diner on Route 66!!

Found this very cool 50's themed diner on Route 66 in Flagstaff, Arizona. The decor is amazing and makes for a perfect stop while on the legendary highway. We stopped for breakfast, it was good. Would liked to have tried their burgers, maybe next time...

Cherry cokes and milkshakes-5 stars always. Food-Usually a 3, but I'm pretty sure I was poisoned by a burger once. Note to dumb ass self: if you're thinking "this meat doesn't taste quite right," go with that and stop eating it. Service-Anywhere from a 1 to a 5. Screaming children-Always a 1.

  • Mark N.

Great diner! Our family had a wonderful dinner. Only disappointment was that it wasn't served on glass plates. My burger had large helpings of toppings and my wife's Bark at the Moon chicken sandwhich was huge. Fries weren't the string type you normally find at diners but more like beer-battered type which I love. Don't understand the vegetarian going to a diner reviews. Go to your sushi/ tofu joints instead of bad mouthing a large angus burger joint.

Geez o' pete... This place isn't good. Diner food isn't hard to do, from what I gather... grease, grease, and more grease. But, I certainly didn't enjoy my indulgence here at Galaxy. Cherry Coke... syrupy. Fries.... disgusting. Turkey Rueben... bleh. Time to revamp and make sure your food is better than McDonalds... as of now, the dollar menu well out ranks you.

I'm going to start off by saying that I do not review someplace until I have been there at least two times. I understand that even the best business can have a "bad day", and I don't want to be unfair. I'm a recent immigrant to Flagstaff, and the first time I went to the Galaxy was with my two sons (aged 8 and 7) for a celebratory dinner. The service was adequate. I would say it was your standard "diner" service. Not good. Not bad. What made this trip memorably bad was the food. I was expecting diner food slightly above the quality of Denny's. It was worse. My oldest ordered the "mini-burgers" off the kids menu. They were charred to the point of being hockey pucks. They didn't come with cheese, so I flagged down our waitress to ask if we could get some cheese for them. She returned with a slice of American on a plate. (Would it have hurt to take the burgers into the back and have the kitchen melt the cheese onto them? ) My 8 year-old is no "foodie", but even he was unimpressed. When my husband (who had been out of town on our first trip) asked me about it later, I told him that I thought it might be worth trying for breakfast. So this morning, that's exactly what we did.... Or, I should say, we attempted to do. The first sign of trouble was soon after we were seated. We were all looking over our menus, when we were approached by the hostess and asked if we minded moving to another table because a large party had just arrived, and they "needed" to rearrange the dining tables to accommodate them. My husband joked that we didn't mind, as long as we wouldn't be ignored. Little did we know.... A waitress immediately came to take our order. We ordered beverages, including coffee, and came to find out that the "specials" that are painted all over the front windows are $1.00 more on the weekends. (They are NOT on the menu.) We ordered breakfast and waited.... And waited.... And waited..... The large party who'd taken our original table got their coffee. We didn't. We finally decided to leave. We flagged down the hostess and asked her to cancel our order. She looked genuinely shocked that we were leaving. I noticed, as my husband was talking to the hostess, that our waitress was leaving the kitchen with a large tray of glasses of juice. Not our juice.... Juice for a large party of people.... I'm sorry, but I personally consider it "bad form" for a restaurant to ask you to switch tables after you've been seated. If it MUST happen, the servers should be bending over backwards to make you happy. This did not happen at the Galaxy. And I don't care what kind of restaurant you are, waiting for coffee for over 10 minutes during breakfast is unacceptable. We left and went to the Crown Railroad Cafe on S Woodlands Blvd.... Much better.

Exactly what I was expecting, Typical roadside diner cuisine. I wasn't seeking anything fancy that day and I didn't get anything fancy. I noticed a few things right away. The staff were all well employed. No one was simply sitting around sucking air and collecting a paycheck. The manager was out of the office too patrolling the dining room, kitchen and register; what I like to see in a manager. The food wasn't anything exceptional but was on par with the style. I had the new york strip with mashed taters and veggie medly. Washed it all down with two coors. I will say the bottled beer was a bit pricy compared to the rest of the menu standard but I had my two anyway. I asked for the steak at medium rare and that's what it came out as. The strip being a cheap thin cut...I was expecting it to be overdone like most places do it. Perfecto! The potatoes and veggies were creamy and not overdone. The gravy was a bit bland but I can't complain too much considering where I was.

OH MY GOD how awful this place was! I should have figured something was going to be wrong when half of their sign on the roof was burned out but we went in anyway. Hubbs and I shared the fried zucchini appetizer that appeared to be OK until you turned them over. Picture this.... dark golden brown all around with a pale center on one side. How did you do that?! Hubby also ordered sliders with french fries. Let's just say the fries were the high point of his meal. I take it back when I say you can't mess up a grilled cheese. I did not order semi-toasted bread with somewhat melted cheese in between but that is what came out. The mashed potatoes and gravy that came with it were good. It took a while for the server to come over and see if everything was OK. When he did I said NO it was not OK and showed him the mess on the plate that was supposed to be my grilled cheese. Not only was the server surprised that the quality of the sandwich was awful he then has the nerve to ask if I wanted another one. I should have just demanded a refund for this sandwich but I said OK to the replacement but then wondered if my second sandwich would come with a side of dustpan dirt or a "surprise center". It took so long for them to make the replacement food that I asked them to put it in a to go box. Spend your money some where else in town.

Good place to go for burgers, fries and a malt in a diner atmosphere. The malt I had was delicious so this is now my first choice if I'm looking for an ice cream treat. Had breakfast there recently - nothing special. Probably won't eat breakfast here again. Service has been fast & friendly every time I've gone here.

We decided to stop here while in Flagstaff. The place looked fun and nostalgic. My kids ordered chicken and I got the classic burger and side of Cole slaw. I asked the waitress for no thousand island on mine, to which she replied, "We don't put thousand island on them anymore, all the burgers are served dry." Boy was she right. Not sure how you mess up a burger, but it was dry as the Phoenix desert. From the dollar store mustard and condiment cups, I think this place is trying to cut costs in all the wrong places. Next time you're in the area, stop here, take a picture, then drive somewhere else for dinner.

Missin' those old school diners? Route 66 1950s diner, right here! The decor throws back to 1950s pop culture - the walls are covered in old photos of famed stars from Hollywood's Golden Age, the booths are red vinyl and the food is classic Americana. They serve breakfast all day and dinner starting at 4pm (hot meatloaf diner dinner anyone?) While I had hoped for a hot Turkey open faced sandwich with an ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes on the menu, I feel they have what you'd expect from a 1950s diner pretty well covered. The food is pretty basic, nothing spectacular, but sometimes it's all about nostalgia.

I came here twice and it's all for my birthday. They have a birthday special. The way they sing the Happy Birthday song was interesting. And I get a mini ice cream sundae, it's sooo cute and with a cherry on top. The dishes are so big. All the time, I could never finish it. It's so filling. I love their set up of the restaurant. It's like a trailer and museum style. Kinda like in the movies.

Horrible service, the hostesses both seemed to fight to see who had the displeasure of seating us. Our waitress then came up and she was very short and unfriendly, it was more of her chore. I began reading reviews as my girlfriend was in the restroom and saw a plethora of low scores but ignored them against my better judgement. As we sat and waited for our drinks we noticed the lack of maintenance and of cleanliness, the blinds were growing something, and had splatters all over it. The menus felt very greasy and discusting, and the salt shaker as well felt like it had never been cleaned. When our meal came our waiter just did a walk by drop. The food was horribly blan and barely edible. We will be forced to pay for horribly overpriced and low quality food. I wish i would have took the advice of the other reviews and walked out.

Got breakfast here twice during our stay. it had three things I love. Awesome retro decor. Strong coffee. And good blueberry pancakes. Add in the smiley service and I have no complaints.

This place almost got 5 stars because they had a Garfield drawn on their welcome board with their specials. That's a proven winner for me. Otherwise... their ice cream is HUGE and incredibly tasty. I had the banana split and my friends had the Cookie Monster. I also had their California Dreamin' Burger, which was actually pretty good too. Their guac was pretty great. I did have their onion rings, but they were nothing you couldn't buy at the store. The service was awesome though. The waitress was on us really fast.

Wow, are the malts and shakes great! We ate at the counter because the dining room was full and saw other drinks being made. The floats look delicious! I had a bacon burger, he had a turkey sandwich minus the bacon. Both were tasty- and the fries were great but we were stuffed! Will come back again!

I come from the greasy diner capital of the world (New Jersey) and so I feel I have a high level of expertise in the subject. so-so food, good prices, big portions, greasy food, good coffee, kitsch decor... these are the qualities I look for in a diner. And this place has all of that... except for the big portions. I hadn't had eggs in several days (normally I eat about 3-6 eggs/day) and so I was craving eggs and looking forward to the nice-size platter I normally get in the diners back home. Well, these were the smallest eggs I had ever seen. They were good, greasy (yet oddly, not filling) and the sides were good, too. But I found the portions to be small. Maybe another item on the menu (like one of the sandwiches) would have been a better choice. Service was good... Much better than the average diner in Jersey. I would go back there again, but I would order something else (or I would double my egg order).

We started eating here about 5 years ago when my daughter was at NAU and we'd come up to visit. This is a "DDD" place...it's both a diner and a dive. It's a fun place to eat, 50's style. I've tried about half the dinner menu and a quarter of the breakfast menu, and have never been disappointed. The food and service are both good, and I can feed 4 of us for less than $40 for dinner. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Flag and want a good meal.

Today I came by for some lunch and had a pretty bad experience! I got the pot roast sandwich, which was basically all fat between two dried out rolls. The worst part was that I took out the tooth pick and found that there was a tip of a tooth pick in my sandwich. Good thing I found it before I choked my face off! I also got the wet fries on the side, gravy was basically out of a can and lumpy. Gross! My fiancee got the corned beef hash=rip off! A spoonful of canned hash with little taste. Service was bad. The guy was super rude. There was a family who asked for a to go cup and the waitress wouldn't bring it over to them because she was too busy flirting with our waiter. The dad had to get up to get his cup. Won't come back again.

If there were 10 stars, Galaxy would earn them all! Some of the BEST food I've eaten, growing up in San Diego and living in LA that is making quite a statement. Chicken noodle soup is home-made, and probably the best I've ever had. Side salad was averagely-good. Southwestern grilled chicken sandwich was BOMB, some of the best grilled chicken I've ever had. Great atmosphere, friendly service. MUST STOP IN FLAGSTAFF!

Immediately after I arrived in Arizona my husband and I took a trip to the Grand Canyon. I was all set to experience America's southwest culture. Encouraged by Guy's show 'Diners, Dives and Drive-Inns' and after a little bit of research on the internet we decided to visit the Galaxy Diner in Flagstaff.. 'Buyer beware', it is indeed a seedy looking place. The price on the menu does not match the get up, the food is overpriced and the helpings are not suitable for big American appetites.. The only good thing about this place is probably the music- a very elderly person was playing oldies on his guitar that night.

  • Allie W.

It was very disappointing. I had come there before this past time and it was very good and good service. However this time it was completely the opposite. We only saw our actual waitress once, and that was when she took our order, we had someone new come each time when the drinks and food were brought. I ordered the pancakes and i was extremely disappointed, my pancakes were completely raw in the middle and they were cold by the time I got them as well. My friends food was extremely cold as well by the time she got hers. When we were done we had to hunt down our waitress to get our check. After complaining to the manager who was working we didn't end up paying for our meal which was probably the only positive part of our experience.

The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the server we had wasn't too terrible. I walked into the diner and wasn't greeted, wasn't even offered to be seated. The guy at the counter mumbled out that he would get us seated. I used the restroom and came back to my family still standing at the front counter waiting to be seated. I grabbed a few menus and started to seat myself before the same guy said that we could follow him. OK no big deal. We are seated, food is ordered and our server gets stuck ringing someone up. I heard him ask someone for help but no help came. Meanwhile our food is sitting at the counter waiting for him to serve. There is a cook, a manager, another waitress and another female I would assume was supposed to be the cashier. Not one person lifted a finger to bring our food. We kept getting the awkward looks from the employees. Our food sat on the hot counter for at least 10 minutes while the manager and another hostess were talking about selfies. What happened to good customer service? Food wasnt terrible but none of the employees had any desire to help each other.

I hadn't eaten there in the 5 years I have been in Williams, so I decided to have breakfast there one morning. Big mistake!! I ordered one of the $3.99 breakfast specials,2 eggs, 2 cakes, 2 bacon. The eggs were hard and cold, the cakes were thin, small, and cold and the bacon would have been good if it wouldn't have been cold. Now by cold, I mean barely room temperature. And a guy came in about 15 min. after me and he got his food at the same time mine came out. Now how do you manage that? I sent them back and left to find breakfast elsewhere. It was not busy at that time of the morning. The server was nice enough and the interior was cool with Rt.66 stuff. Maybe they do lunch better? I might give them a second chance, I haven't decided yet.

Well, the outside of this place looked dead when we first arrived! Very ran down and dirty looking. However the inside wasn't half as bad. They try really hard to keep the 50's diner theme. The owner was there when we were, and he seemed a little more concerned with the conversation he was holding with his friends than he did with my 7-9 pieces of fruit chunks that were room temp. I guess I should have just stuck with the fries! The turkey club wasn't too bad. The avocado was a little tangy however and had some salsa in it!?!? Anyway my wife had an omelet that was really good! Fresh veggies and eggs that didn't resemble rubber. She did ask for no onions and the put them in her omelet anyways. I guess I would say stick to the fried food or breakfast. The server gave us the wrong ticket at check out and didn't even follow up with us after she gave us our bill. I guess they just mixed up table numbers or something. So with that being said if the appearance of this place was a little better it could have gotten a 3 star...... Maybe!

  • Bill H.

I had the "Hank". It consisted of three bland, overcooked scrambled eggs, premade chicken fried steak, and some sliced seasoned potatoes. The potatoes were chewy and tasted like they were made several hours earlier. I also had the biscuits and gravy. If I have to eat another "bisquick and water" biscuit smothered in packaged gravy I am gonna go postal in AZ. Why cant people here make real bisuits and gravy? My friend had sausages that were quite tasty, and the pancakes were decent too. That's about it. The art of the all American diner has gone awry. You might get your kicks on route 66, but if you eat here you might get sick on route 66. Not recommended.

In terms of greasy spoon diners, this place gets "Greasy Spoon" totally correct. Over the years, their food has gotten less and less delicious, but that might be because my palette has improved over the years. Really, if you want good diner food, go to the Crown Railroad Cafe. If you want a good burger, Bun Huggers. But if you want a good Vanilla/Chocolate Coke, this is the place.

I took my 7-year old daughter there on a Saturday night after a trip to the Grand Canyon. I wanted her to imbibe the artificial nostalgia of Old Route 66 by eating at the Galaxy Diner with its 50's-themed neon sign and decor. It was fairly busy. What disappointed us was how slow the service was for us. Others who came in and ordered after us got served their food and drink before us, and I noticed a couple who came in 15 minutes after us were half way finished with their meals before we even got our food (we ordered a burger and spaghetti, so neither meal was difficult to prepare). At least the hostess came to take our drink order after we sat there ignored by our server for 10 minutes or so. The food was decent, but having to wait almost an hour to be served dinner was far from acceptable (especially for a diner). If my wife had been with us, she probably would have suggested we go elsewhere. Maybe we just got a bad server.

When my family and me took a six week road trip around the USA in Summer 2006, we were stranded for 4 days in Flagstaff due to transmission problems. In hindsight, I'm glad we were trapped there, because we might not have visited this great little diner. If there was ever a perfect example of a 50s diner, this place is it. Chrome, Elvis, and some great food. I remember my cheeseburger with fries, but what really kicked this place up to my number two favorite restaurant on the trip was the thick Butterfinger milkshake I got for dessert. Now I'm depressed...I WANT TO GO BACK!

  • Eli S.

I love the environment this diner offers! I had tried their burgers before I went in again for a second time, and I have to say they were delicious. I went back a second time because I found a buy one get a second entree for half off coupon and couldn't let it expire. Even though the place was super packed, the service was great and they had a live musician singing and playing songs from the Beatles and Elvis. I did not fully enjoy my chicken entree, so for my next visit I am going to stick with their burgers or their awesome breakfast deals.

  • Merith K.

This place is totally retro cute! We only ate breakfast here, but it was good, and the coffee was really good! Super cheap deals we ordered right of the window painted specials. I had French toast, eggs and bacon, all very good. I really wanted the tshirt my waitress was wearing, but they only sold a different one. Definitely has a sweet Route 66 vibe.

We stayed a the days inn across the street and thought this would be a quick hearty breakfast before driving to the Grand Canyon. Boy were we wrong. The food was average diner food, but the speed was unbelievable. We ware one of four tables occupied and the two of us waited just about 45 minutes from the time we sat down to the time our food arrive. So much for a quick meal.

I stopped here on the way to Moab last summer. The staff was friendly, the food was pretty good, and the coffee was great. That's all I ask for at a place like this. Recommended.

Hands down, the worst food I've ever eaten in a restaurant. I got a chicken fried chicken dinner. The 'mashed potatoes' were cold and a little hard around the edges, and the 'veggies' were cold and soggy. Obviously, everything had come out of a box or a bag, and was dumped in a pot of boiling water. The service was really good though, and it was cheap, so we didn't lose a whole lot, just about 45 minutes we'll never get back. The whole thing was kind of funny, really. I've never had food so gnarly. I cannot recommend this place, although maybe the desserts are okay. A lot of folks where eating desserts and I can't imagine you can mess up a milkshake too bad.

Galaxy is and always will be just awful. How can you screw up eggs? Burnt eggs...really? As a former server myself you would think that would be an instant return, but no, that's what was put down in front of me. I'd rather go to Denny's and that is sad, sad.

We arrived around 6:40 at night and it was not busy. After driving all day, I went to use the restroom. While I was in the restroom our waitress demanded drink orders from my husband and appeared to be upset the I used the restroom before ordering. She rudely told us that we need to leave by 7:45, because they have a bus coming in. She could have worded that as a nice and simple request and we would have been fine with it. She rushed us through the ordering process. Within 3 minutes she had another waitress bring all of our food at once (even our salad). In the end she over charged us and refused to alter the price. I feel really bad for the bus of people coming in because their salads with dressing were sitting out on their tables for over 30 minutes before we left and they did not arrive yet. That has to be breaking a health code violation of some sort.

This beautiful typical diner is a very nice American place to eat. I'm from Belgium, and personally I had the best French fries in the USA here (and I'm here for a year now), really yummie! So this is a plus plus plus for me! The fish (fish and chips) was a bit less good than regular, too much fried taste and too less fish taste. I recommend you to take a milkshake, they're delicious! I had one with chocolate taste, fresh icecream with milk and definitely not too sweet.

We were passing through Flagstaff and thought we would stop at an old diner on Historic Route 66. This cute little diner looked fun. We went in and it ha the 50s feel to it. The food was yummy and the prices were really good. We just had to try an old fashioned chocolate malt.... I have had malts at a lot of different places and let me tell you, this was the best malt I have ever had!!! The only reason I am doing 4 stars and not 5 is because the bathrooms are in need of repair and a little cleaning. I totally recommend this diner!

"Service is spot on and the prices are great. Hope the food rocks too. The reviews are mixed but only my review counts." -Me at the moment of being seated The Galaxy Diner is but a fond memory now. Not the best place Ive ever eaten but certainly not the worse. In fact I'd say that for the price it was pretty damn good. Family friendly and plenty of selection. Service: As mentioned before the service was spot on. Our server was polite and punctual and never let our drinks run dry. The only wrinkle was her manager (I think) shadowing her every move. Back off and let the girl do her job homeboy! I hope she didn't have to share the tip with him. Food: The food leans more towards Yummy than Meh (See pics). For $3.99 I got what I expected (scrambled eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausages and breakfast potatoes). The toast was extra. Miscellaneous: Its all about the 50's and Route 66 in here. This includes lots of Hollywood dead celebrity art (Monroe, James Dean, Brando etc) adorning the walls along with real or reproduced memorabilia from that time period. Its all good. Verdict: I would still come back. The service is awesome and the food quality meets my expectations. Also, by the looks of things Galaxy Diner seem to serve up some great lunch and dinner plates plus they have a robust selection of milkshakes to order from. And you know...its the milkshake that always brings me to the yard...or in this case back to this diner. Cheers.

This place was very good and very fun. I wasn't able to eat much but that's okay, the fries and milkshake I had were fantastic! The swing dancing nights were the best! Service was great and extremely friendly. I recommend this to anyone who's looking for a good night in a classic diner.

This place is great! Both the 50's style diner decor and the food. We had the special, which was a steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, and mixed veggies foe $9. We also got milkshakes to go - they have a hundred of them to choose from. This is a great stop across the Southwest on old Route 66.

  • Sophie W.

I had a shake here as an after-dinner treat and it was really good. The reason why I'm rating 1 star is this restaurant's hygiene practices. I was sitting at the little lunch bar with a few friends and watched them prep the ingredients for my shake. My shake had cheesecake in it and I watched as they cut it on the countertop next to the sink, sans cutting board. The countertop was FILTHY, crumbs everywhere, dirty dishes, all sorts. They didn't clean up the mess from my cheesecake and I watched as they proceeded to prepare other customer's orders on top of that mess, too. It was really disgusting. I only finished my shake because I'm stubborn and don't like to send things back. Yes, it's cheap food. But I still expect my food to be devoid of dust and crumbs. Eeek. Stay away.

Found this place because of Yelp. I tell everyone I know to stop here if they are passing through Flagstaff. The milkshakes are the best and the wait staff is always up to giving suggestions on whats to do in Flagstaff. This is a must if your driving though! Or looking for a day trip make this your spot!

Same pile of crap at the end of Ice Cream/Soda bar? If u are looking for a good meal but no time to wait don't come during tourist season. They will make the locals wait if a group comes in, it's not worth the wait. For is usually sloppy if crowded.

Wow talk about going down hill. This place used to be great, but I guess that was years ago. Today however was truly the most disappointed Ive ever been in a restaurant. First of all the place is disgusting, I have never seen a restaurant this dirty. We all had problems with our meals. Sad - we used to love going there. Looks like they aren't hurting, because of all the tourist bus trade. Rachael was our server and was very good though.

Galaxy Diner is a feel good place. The food might not blow your mind, but the atmosphere makes your food tastes so much better somehow. My girlfriend suggested we stop here for breakfast during our trip. She mentioned it was a really good old school diner, so I had to check it out for myself. She wasn't lying, the place was awesome! While you're sitting there waiting for you order, your eyes start to wander around. There's so much to look at! From multiple black and white headshots of Hollywood legends covering the walls, to an old fashioned jukebox in the corner, everything plays up to its 50s era theme. The staff was extremely friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our food to arrive. I ordered French toast, because I haven't had it in a while, with a side of bacon, and fried eggs over easy (of course!). Everything was cooked just right, so I was completely satisfied. While you're on Route 66, be sure to drop by Galaxy Diner. It's not just the food, it's the experience.

My Route 66 loving husband was so psyched to go to the Galaxy Diner during our stop in Flagstaff. We ordered dinner and deserts for ourselves and our children. Everyone in our party was happy with the quality of their meals and the customer service was top notch. There was a nice man in the dining room who was performing live music...he was quite good and very friendly. The live music kept my kids happy and that is always a plus for the road weary parents. This was very much a diner, and it served quality diner food.

    (5)
  • Kate D.

The food was pretty good - standard diner fare with a pretty solid kids' menu, but the service was very slow and the restaurant itself was pretty dirty and run down.

What a great dinner for an early breakfast. The coffee was excellent as well as the service. Emily was a great server and made the morning extra special. She gave me my husband's bread and did not charge me for the English muffin. P.S. Truly enjoyed the Rt. 66 decor as well.

All hype this place - the food was sub standard and the restaurant was filthy. Milkshakes are very good though hence the 2 stars. Photos on the wall are great but wouldn't eat here again.

Wanted to get to a diner in Flagstaff...the city treated me well and the Galaxy Diner was quite good! I was set on a burger or breakfast food, being from NJ I know my diners... The french toast was quite good, a bit sweet and cakey would be my only tid bits. But i would surely come back one day as Ill be moving here in a few months!

The only reason for 1 star is the waitress. She really was trying. The name galaxy fits because it takes a fuckin lightyear to get your order, then it's cold to boot! This place sucks balls and whatever you do, DO NOT GO HERE!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT. It gives the word diner a black eye.
