Meh, I've experienced better hits the nail on the head. Bartender was super rude for some reason, almost like we reminded her of someone else. Happy hour prices were good and the appetizer was good as well. The service really was uncharacteristic of Old Town Cottonwood. I think there are too many quality establishments in the area for that type of service.

So I see on FB this place has a great sounding happy hour. Yes, it is a great happy hours! They have a hot beer concoction that I totally dig. I believe its called a Michelina??? Sometime like that. Any way, $3 during happy hour. We had the cheeseburger, and prime rib sliders. Both were amazing...best sliders I have ever had. I didn't like the chicken wings. They were mushy & fatty. I won't order them again. Excellent service, however, the happy hour prices should be good in the entire restaurant, not just the bar area.

I liked everything about this place when I walked in the door. However, as soon as I sat down it started to slide from there. We were seated in one of those round booth-like things, but it wasn't round, it was square, and so your knees constantly bump the person next to you. Mind you there was only 6 of us at the table and so it wasn't like we were cramming people in. Avoid these tables! Secondly, the food was beyond bland. I tried the lettuce wraps which were over celery-ed. My father's smothered chicken lacked flavor and was a bit on the dry side. My club sandwich was also dry, and the French fries came out mushy. No one else at our table was blown away by anything about the restaurant besides the ambiance. If you are in the area and you want a place to hang for ambiance here you go, but I would skip the food!

Friendly service and great food! Stopped here for lunch on the way to Canyon Verde Railroad. We were in a hurry so we stuck to the soup/sandwich/salad combination and everyone loved it! You have to try their mini-wedge salad. Tons of TVs around the whole room and a nice bar area. Melissa the hostess was outstanding, and even gave us tips on our Verde Canyon Railroad trip! She got us the perfect spot for 10 people in the restaurant. We will stop here again next time we visit the area!

Being back in what years ago wasY home town Theater was a treat for me. I watched many movies here as a Cottonwood Kid back in the late 60's and early 70's. The food was excellent. The wait was long but they were very busy but worth it. Food was wonderful and the service made us feel like VIPs

So somehow I have become a Tavern fan, kind of accidentally. I've been there a number of times over the years and liked it, but wasn't overwhelmed. Now it seems I have tried some things there that have won me over. A good draft beer selection, varied specialty drinks (primarily geared toward the ladies), and now the lettuce wrap Appetiser. Wow! It's that good, trust me...

We only stopped in for drinks before we went to dinner. We had the one with gin and raspberry- Flora Dora maybe? It was delicious! Brandon was very helpful and gave us some ideas of things to do. I would definitely go back there just for the service.

Long time resident of Sedona, which has many restaurants. I'd rather drive here for food, than eat in Sedona. The food is always great and the service is the same.

Located in downtown Cottonwood we stopped by here for lunch on the way to Tuzigoot National Monument. It's a small bar/restaurant with a nice, modern tavern feel. We sat at the bar and ordered: Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, $10.99 yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… Prime Rib Melt, $10.99 yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… Deschuttes Pale Ale, $4 yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… Butte Porter, $4 yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… The Pale Ale and Porter was perfect since it was blazing hot outside...it was very refreshing and tasty. The Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is huge and stacked with toppings...very messy, but good. The Au Jus that comes with it adds a lot of flavor to an already good Sandwich. The Prime Rib Melt is even better....actually, it's pretty amazing. I'm surprised more restaurants haven't developed this Sandwich....it's so simple and tasty. The bartender who served us was very friendly and on point. We only had time for 1 drink, but if we come back to Cottonwood, we'll definitely come back to hangout a while longer. Return Factor - 90%

The food was great and the service was amazing!! My fiancé and I were visiting from out of town and were helped out by Jacqueline she was perfect and although we were too stuffed for dessert she surprised us with the dessert tray and we may be back tomorrow night just to take her up on that offer! I definite recommend this place if you are looking for great food, service and a unique relaxing atmosphere!!

Let me first say I came here with family who live in town and spoke very highly of this place. However, from the experience we had this evening I saw nothing of what I had heard and even my family expressed disappointment in the restaurant overall as well. Perhaps it was just our waitress but the wait time once seated was long for everything, water, drinks, refills and food. I came with a party of 9 and we sat outside, as far as I could tell our waitress had us and one other table. On a positive note, the beer and wine selection is good. I had the Radler (pale ale and lemonade) and it was quite good. For dinner, I along with two others in my party had the ahi tuna salad. When it arrived the tuna was overcooked. Before I could say anything, the food runner asked if it was too well done and promptly brought us properly seared tuna. Again, our waitress was likely the biggest fault in this place. Having removed the first tuna, I was in need of extra dressing which took our waitress almost 10 minutes to bring out. Overall, the food was OK. The atmosphere inside seemed to be pleasant and the men's room was clean. Outside the flys were swarming, which I cannot blame the restaurant for, just a heads up if you are considering the patio. I wanted to like this place but after this experience, I am not in a rush to return.

Stopped in for a drink during happy hour and then decided to stay for dinner as well. We were not disappointed! The ahi salad was to die for! My husband's meat loaf was good, but said mine was better -- sorry! Server was always there when we needed her and was about as friendly as you can get. Another great venue in historic Old Town Cottonwood!

I was working at Salt River Cement, and the guys recommended this place. It was a great recommendation, the food is great, staff are friendly and very good looking. It's a friendly bar. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that it closes too early.

Wow, I can't say enough about this place, fantastic. We were there for a dance weekend nearby and came in for a lunch. My girlfriend is trying to eat vegan, but nothing was on the menu (maybe it should be?). So we asked our server, Diane, if there was anything vegetarian or vegan she could order. Diane was fantastic, not only saying they could and would create a vegan dish for her, but followed through, ensuring it was correct. Also suggesting other items that could be added (basically a salad with all sorts of veggies in it, just what my girlfriend wanted). Diane was quick, friendly without being too friendly, attentive, and just plain nice. I don't know if all the servers there are like Diane, but she, and the restaurant's ability to make just what we needed, made the visit something we'll definitely repeat when we're back in the area next year.

Fabulous stop for lunch after wine tasting!! One of my friends recommended this place, didn't disappoint!! 1. LAVOSH - this is super delicious. Armenian style cracker with havarti cheese perfectly melted and 4 toppings of choice (i highly recommend carmelized onions to be one of them!) 2. SPECIAL BURGERS and Sandwiches- I tried the ahi tuna wrap with wasabi sauce and sweet potato fries (get in my belly!!)-Yum!! 3. GREAT DRINKS.-Wine list featuring AZ wines and good margaritas 4. GREAT SERVICE - we were drooling over several items, and our server was patient, knowledgeable and on the ball. you get crispy bread sticks with the best herb butter I've ever had, so if you're hungry there's a little something to tide you over while you figure it all out. Ready to go back!!

Some local friends invited us to join them on a Tuesday night for half priced cocktails and $5 food items. We managed to find 4 seats at the bar and enjoyed a variety of wines, beer and cocktails. We also ordered from the $5 bar menu . . . I had 3 prime rib sliders with a variety of accompaniments which were really good and satisfying. By the time we walked out I had enjoyed 3 (Early Times) Manhattans, my wife, a couple of glasses of vino and two bar dishes all for $29 before gratuity! Unbelievably reasonable if not down right cheap for an enjoyable evening with friends sharing food and drink.

Nice little spot in downtown Cottonwood. This place was packed to the gills just about at noon on a Monday. That has to be a good sign. Sporting a nice full bar and local brews on tap, it's a great place to catch some sports and a refreshing beverage. As for the food, I wasn't too adventurous, having only soup and salad with bread. The filet chili was delicious and the bread was fresh and plentiful. Too all this off with seriously friendly staff with great attitudes, especially Holly behind the bar, and you've got a winner. If you're in the area, definitely stop in and give it a try.

We went for lunch and it was packed! It was super yummy but a bit on the expensive side for a family. Glad we stopped though! The burgers were great. The breadsticks to munch on while waiting were awesome too!

Great service, good food, and a solid selection of adult beverages. The prime rib was alright, kind of chewy. However, the bleu cheese steak was awesome! Service here is great, very prompt and attentive. Their selection of beer and wine is good however, they have almost none of the local Arizona made wines that are available throughout old town.

Professional...From the hostess through the preparation and presentation of the food. Without hesitation I recommend this restaurant. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the aesthetics to the training of the staff.

The Tavern Grille is an excellent restaurant in Cottonwood. The pricing is fair, the portions are large, and the waitresses are both cute and nice. It's a great place to go to before you head out to the Verde Canyon Railroad or afterwards. I have no complaints.

Rolled through cottonwood after a hike 4pm on a sunday and almost every restaurant is closed. Thank god for this place. Ambience was cool with fire charred concrete walls. Service was very friendly. Prime rib sandwhich was good but my mojito was a little underwhelming. Friend enjoyed her bacon burger. Brownie with graham cracker crust was also good. Would definitely visit again.

I come here regularly because my folks live in Cottonwood and I had to share this update. The Tavern Grille has a great atmosphere and the menu runs the gamut from appetizers and bar food to pasta and prime rib all in a fun casual atmosphere so my folks are regulars here and most of the staff treat them great. However last night we came in, and admittedly we came right before closing so maybe that is what pissed our server off so much that he was SUCH a jerk to us. In our defense we asked if we could still be served and were prepared to go elsewhere if they were about to close. There were still several customers in the restaurant and there were no signs that they were anywhere close to closing. The manager cheerfully said that it was not a problem and told us we could sit wherever we liked. She took our drink orders and that was that. When our server came to take our order, there was no "Hello" just a "What can I get for you?". The server was nearly straining to be pleasant as he took our orders. We finished giving our orders and without so much as a "Thank you" he turned our back to us. As he was turning away my Mom tried to put in an order of onion rings. I firmly believe that he chose to ignore her because he was less than 5 feet away when she asked for them. The manager who seated us was standing right next to him and she told him that we wanted onion rings. He did manage to keep our drinks and water refilled thankfully because we were already feeling the attitude from him and we didn't want to ask for anything more than the bare minimum. He did spend a lot of time chatting with the patrons at another table so I really think he was pissed off that he had to look after us. Our salads came followed by are mains but the onion rings never came. The manager who seated us check in on us intermittently and was fantastic about picking up our server's slack but we learned that even after he ignored us and the manager reminded him, he did not put in the order. From that point, the manager looked after us for the most part, though our server did keep our drinks filled and was the one who brought the bill. I was so appalled by his attitude and by his lack of any effort to veil his disdain at serving us that I wanted to tip 10 percent. My folks disagreed though because if the tips were evenly split among the entire crew, we did not want to penalize the rest of them who were sweet and awesome. We also did not want the manager to feel like we were at all unhappy with her service because she was great. Normally I would give this place 1 star and tell everyone to stay away because a bad attitude like we experienced last night is never acceptable and should not ever be tolerated by any business. While we probably should have said something to the manager, we understand how difficult being a server is and we try to be as patient and easy going as possible. The rest of the staff are great and everyone treats my family very well and this place has been a foundation of Cottonwood's development and growth so we will still patronize this business and encourage everyone to please stop in and patronize The Tavern Grille. Just request not to be sat in the front of the restaurant on the ride hand side as you enter.

I was tempted to come here for dinner during a recent visit to Cottonwood. Tavern Grille is located smack in the middle of Old Town Cottonwood and it's a very nice location. Most restaurants in Cottonwood have patio for outside dining during the nicer months in AZ - anywhere between Oct and April - and Tavern Grille has a patio right to the side of the building as well as one right of the curb in front of the establishment. This restaurant is connected to the Tavern Hotel, which is next door. It's an old building that had been completely rehab'ed with modern decor on the inside. After a hot day of driving and walking around, the raspberry lemonade and the salad that preceded my dinner were exactly what the doctor ordered. I had high hope for the main entree based on mini breadsticks served with herb infused whipped butter. I ordered the grilled salmon with cream artichoke topping and cheddar mashed potatoes on the side. Yes, that does sound very nice. However, upon arrival, the food was just average and a bit on the salty side. Very anti-climatic for what I had just experienced minutes ago ... I supposed Tavern Grille does put up a decent effort, but obviously not aiming high enough. Definitely worth another visit with a different entree order to really rate this establishment. Since I don't live in Cottonwood, I guess the next update for Tavern Grille is not going to be any time soon. But for now, a solid 3-star is all I can truly rate.

Good service and good drink selection. The food was just okay. My chicken sandwich was dry and the fries were just frozen fries that had been fried again. We'd come back but it wouldn't be our first choice.

18 of us showed up for lunch this week at The Tavern Grille and couldn't have been more impressed! They were able to seat all of us out on their nice covered patio. We started with one waiter but soon 2 more appeared and it made for a nice lunch service. Everything we asked for we got without waiting, Food.....a must have it you like Ahi Tuna is the Ahi Tuna Nachos. Perfectly seared tuna and a great starter for our lunch. 4 of us shared it. They have some great combinations with soups, salads, mini sands (little sliders) and the most awesome bread. I had the french onion soup which was perfection. Just the right balance of broth, onions, cheese and croutons. With that I had the mini wedge salad (not very mini) and the bread. The bread was a warm small loaf with melted butter and herbs. It was big enough to share and was great to sop up the remainder of my soup. The Chicken Salad Sandwich came with grapes, nuts, lots of chunky chicken and was a favorite at our table. Everything we had was cooked to perfection, and huge amounts of everything. I am sorry we won't be back for another year as this was a great experience for the 18 of us and not one complaint about food, service, decor, ambiance, etc. They have a winner here and there was even people waiting to get in when we left. Good Job Tavern Grille!

One of the best restuants in the Verde Valley, the owners are there for you, staff too. The food is out of this world. You will not be disapointed. Ask for Laura, she is the manager. Great sports bar. Fun place.

Great find! My family and I were in Cottonwood looking for a restaurant for dinner. After checking with Yelp we decided on Nick's Italian food restaurant. However Nick's had a 30 minute wait so we walked across the street to The Tavern Grille. The wait was only about 15 minutes so we stayed. Very smart decision to stay. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly. If you like dark beer's I highly recommend the Porter. The meals are large - can be shared - and the food was delicious.

We visited the tavern grill two or three years ago and returned last Saturday night. Service and food was excellent! Still, perhaps the best onion soup I've ever had! Prices are very reasonable also.

5 FULL STARS for awesome food, drink and service. One of my favorite places in Cottonwood, and I'm rediscovering it after moving back to the area after a few years. 1. LAVOSH - this is super delicious. Armenian style cracker with havarti cheese perfectly melted and 4 toppings of choice (i highly recommend carmelized onions to be one of them!) 2. SPECIAL BURGERS - I've had a couple different ones, but their special (not everyday, sadly) "The Ranchero Burger" is like a burger enchilada. 2 tortillas instead of a bun, and a wonderful mexican salad on top. My medium was more like a medium well, so order on the rare side of what you like. But still tasty! 3. GREAT DRINKS. My friend had an ultimate margarita (or something like that) - and I usually don't love margaritas, and this one was smooth and well balanced with amazingly fresh lime. 4. PATIENT, ATTENTIVE SERVICE - we were drooling over several items, and our server was patient, knowledgeable and on the ball. you get crispy bread sticks with the best herb butter I've ever had, so if you're hungry there's a little something to tide you over while you figure it all out. Ready to go back!

If you are reading this and looking for a good place to eat in Cottonwood this is the place. For a small town in N. AZ, this place looks and tastes like a steakhouse in any major city. The prime rib was superb and the draft beer was a solid addition. The only possible downside was the price, but value wise, the food was worth it.

Bring your appetite! Ended a day of wine and balsamic vinegar tasting by having a very satisfying dinner at Tavern Grille. Good bar/wine list, good service, and great food. The meatloaf, featured on Rachael Ray's food tv show, is not tobe missed. An excellent marsala sauce and wrapped with bacon - wow. The onion rings were also maybe the best I've ever had. Definitely will be back!

We were in Old Town Cottonwood on Memorial Day. Up the hill, Jerome was wall-to-wall people but down here you could bowl an entire game down Main Street. The reality is there's not a heck of a lot to do in Old Town. As soon as we arrived the consensus was that The Tavern Grille looked like the right choice for lunch. They couldn't accommodate our party of 8 so we sat in two separate booths. The place is pretty much a dead ringer for most of those chain bar/restaurants like Rock Bottom, Hooters, Tilted Kilt, etc. except part of the décor actually is old rather than pretending to be. Our server was friendly and efficient and was there when we needed her. Despite having to work on a holiday she seemed to have good customer relations skills. Otherwise there was nothing special about The Tavern ... as others have mentioned, the food tends toward the bland side, pretty much basic bar food at typical bar food prices. My choice was the Classic Cheese Burger at $8.99. I've had some awesome burgers in small local bars and I was hoping for something special but no, the beef patty was a dry and a bit tough and the cheese had been melted so much that it just looked like yellow paint. I ended up eating half, ditching the bread and trying to eat small pieces of just the meat and finally gave up; there was no pleasure in eating this burger. The other meals which included a salad, club sandwich and turkey melt all looked okay but ordinary. And that sums it up. I can't think of any reason to advise anyone not to go here but by the same token I can't really recommend it either. My 3 stars = average.

Amazing food. Amazing service. This gem of a place managed to keep 8 city slickers quite happy after a day of wine tasting. Must order: wings, chicken tenders with spicy buffalo sauce, 4 cheese baked penne, anything with prime rib with horseradish.

Lunch was awesome - we each had a mini combo - wedge salad and mini sandwiches were super delicious as was the filet mignon chili - the wait staff was very friendly and service was excellent - ambiance is casual yet with a modern flair mixed with old world charm !!!

The only kid friendly place in Main Street- I would have preferred the lunch fare at other restaurants across street, but tavern offered 6 kids options. Pros; big portion, lavosh was enough for 2 to share Cons: greasy and flavorless Kids Mac and cheese was orange processed yuck Please other restaurants add some kid friendly things for when we visit family in town!

Good range of food for a small place. Located in the heart of "Old Cottonwood" and very neat how they blended the old brick/stone walls with the new restaurant. Great waitress, good food, pretty good drinks (Pink Fizz and Apple Pie). Cool vibe that is more classy than your typical sports bar/tavern. Highly recommend the Napa Chicken Salad and the Turkey with Cranberry-Orange cream cheese. OH and the Filet Mignon Chili. Can you tell I liked it?

Judging by the menu, this place could be any chain brewery or TGIF type place. However, the food was actually pretty good. We ordered a couple of appetizers since we weren't that hungry. But the flatbread pizza turned out to be big enough for a full meal and then some. The crust was very crispy and it had lots of gooey cheese. My hubby also wanted to try the roast beef sliders and they were very good too. The place had a cool vibe to it. I liked the stone walls, that added a lot of character. The plush booths and ample bar space makes it a relaxing place to hang out. But the couple of kids at the next table still screamed "family restaurant" so I guess they are really trying to cater to everyone. I'd like to see how this place looks at night when it is in full bar mode. The beer and wine list was good but I can't believe that they did not have any selections from the local wineries. We had been hitting up the tasting rooms all afternoon and I was itching to see how some of my favorites paired with food. I think that is a huge miss for them.

I went here last weekend when we were up there for a meeting in Cottonwood. It is our usual go to place whenever we are there. We went for a late lunch and sat at the bar. Their food is good and fairly priced. I had the Lavosh with chicken, artichokes, mushrooms, and tomatoes. It is huge - way bigger than I thought it would be. I ended up taking most of it back with me to the hotel. I had a Long Island Iced Tea and a Harvest Pumpkin Blue Moon Ale and both were good. Service is top notch and I have no complaints! Will definitely go again!

We were staying right next door at the Tavern Inn and stopped here to check in...yes, you actually check in to the Inn at the bar! AND ....they give you a free drink at check in! We settled in to our room and came back to have our drink. The bar is lovely....large and square right in the middle of the restaurant with tables/booths all around it. We had a couple drinks our first night and went on to somewhere else for dinner, but the next night (after wine tasting all afternoon) we just wanted to grab a bite late and just made it (the Tavern closes at 9 on weeknights!) I had the taco salad with chicken, which was fresh and yummy with a spicy ranch dressing. My spouse had the Philly Cheesesteak which he said was fine, but a little too much bread and not enough steak for his liking. The service is friendly and while we sat at a booth, I think we enjoyed just sitting at the bar and chatting with the locals more. There are numerous big screen TV's but they are not distracting if you don't want to watch.

Went here while wine tasting. (Don't worry this review was completed after the first winery) everything from the atmosphere to the service and food was perfect. Great Italian Wedding Soup and as a tip I recommend the mini sandwiches with salad or soup combo. Everything tasted fresh and came out piping hot. Service was attentive but not overbearing and the price plus tip was under 25.00 for two. If you're a sports fan there are televisions every 2 feet on all the walls. I will be visiting this place every time we come up from the valley.

This is really a nice sports bar with booths around the walls. Many, many TV's but the sound was off, so didn't bother us. Husband was happy to watch hockey while we waited for our meal. Wait staff was very good. Our waiter was efficient and there was a bus girl that as soon as a plate was empty and pushed aside, she stealthly passed by and cleared it away. We don't usually order alcoholic drinks but for some reason Bloody Mary's called to us. I highly recommend the Bloody Mary. Rich, thick, with a bite. A big hunk of celery stalk, 2 olives on a pick and a slice of lemon and a slice of lime on the rim. A great looking Bloody Mary as well as a great tasting Bloody Mary. There were so many interesting items on the menu, but we can only eat so much. We opted for onion rings and French onion soup as appetizers. Onion rings: above average. The onions were not as sweet as I'd like. The ranch style dipping sauce was very watered down. When we dipped the rings in it, the dressing just slipped off. French onion soup: heart and absolutely excellent. House Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette dressing: Nice salad with fresh sliced mushrooms. Dressing was light and pleasant. Prime Rib: Very, very tender. Unfortunately, it was not as tasty as others we've add. It needed a more robust rub or seasoning. Stuffed Meatloaf: Disappointing. According to other reviews this was good, so I ordered. Bland all the way around. When I finally found the cheese (by sight), I never really tasted it. Supposed to be wrapped in bacon, but I barely tasted that also. Cheese mashed potatoes: Good. Although they were doctored up instant, they were doctored up nicely. I upped my rating from 3 to 4 simply because the wait staff was excellent and I'm intrigued by the menu. I would return just to try other items on the menu.

We've been to this place many times as it's one of the better places to eat in Cottonwood. Service is always great and friendly. They have a good draft beer selection and nice atmosphere with the outdoor patio. Some of the food has been a bit bland, but I've never gone wrong with the burgers and sweet potato fries.

Whether you're interested in a sit down dinner, quick bite at the bar, a place to watch sports on TV, or a casual place to meet up with friends for cocktails, The Tavern Grille has it all. The decor is modern but comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food is great (try the flat breads), and they have several unique cocktails that are fun to try. A great place to grab a bite before or after touring the wineries on Main Street.

So the same couple who own the Haunted Hamburger and Grapes in Jerome own this place too, learned this off the back of the menus. They did a great job with this place. We stopped in here on Tuesday 4/1 for lunch since we were wine tasting in the area. I had a glass of wine and my husband just has a beer, the only bummer was that they didn't have any ciders but our experience was so good I couldn't take a star away for that. We shared the Santa Fe spring rolls and they were great, just spicy enough and came out hot, we also shared the tavern sliders which were perfect, I think they should take the recipe for their burgers here up to haunted hamburger in Jerome. The staff were all polite and friendly and interactive.

I have been here twice. The food has been good twice, but both times, we have waited an age on the food and drink refills - the service is not that great - they are friendly (not towards dogs, if you read my tip), but just not attentive and the kitchen is slow. The first time, we thought it could be because they are busy, but the next time, it was the middle of the afternoon and we were the only people on the patio and it was still slow. So even although the food is good, although a little pricey, we will not be back as it takes too long to get to us and then they are not dog friendly which is a deal breaker, when we have been hiking with our dog

Great wings and appetizers during happy hour, as well as drink specials. We happened to come in on a busy Saturday, so we were sat near the kitchen, which was very loud. We came again during off hours and enjoyed wine and appetizers on the patio, which was much better, and perfect for enjoying downtown Cottonwood.

I got the Chicken Bacon Cheese sandwich and loved it, while my wife had the Cheese Steak and thought it was a little too greasy, but still enjoyed it. Atmosphere is great and the prices weren't bad. We will definitely return.

Have eaten here a few times now and each time delicious. Hot fresh and friendly. Outside patio for lunch time can sometimes be a bit too warm if you're sitting on the outside edge. Inside dining can be entertaining with the movie screens on the wall. Menu is large enough for selections and pricing to meet most budgets. Portions are generous even for the hearty appetite. Still a fav for me.

Went with my girlfriend on a day trip from Phoenix a few weeks ago. We walked the whole tourist part of town and saw this place was packed so we came back about noon on a Saturday and gave it a try... it did not disappoint. We got the last booth inside and service was fantastic. The waitress was hustling but each time she passed by she would let us know she hadn't forgotten us. We tried the fresh orange/pomegranite margaritas. $8 each but a very big glass. 3 each and we felt no pain. We could see the bartender actually cutting the fruit at the bar so we knew it was fresh. I had a turkey sandwich with an awesome strawberry chipotle spread. Fries were great. My girlfriend's burger was a perfect Medium, big and tasty. The dessert tray made us try the creme brule, which can be a tricky dessert to pull off at some places. Tavern knocked it out of the park and by the time we were done we were still trying to scrape bits of yummy goodness from inside the bowl. I'm tempted to give 5 stars but reserve that for experiences I'll remember years from now, but 4 1/2 would definitely work. We'll be back again very soon.

We went here with a few friends on a Friday night. The atmosphere was good. We sat in the bar area. The food was average, nothing special and not too bad. I had a salad and my boyfriend had a chicken sandwich that was average. I did feel that the menu was slightly overpriced when my bill came, we had 2 drinks and the salad and sandwich and the bill was close to 50.00$, a bit pricey. I don't think I would go back.

Pretty standard bar food. The happy hour appetizers and drinks (served at the bar only) are a good deal. I really like the southwestern deep fried rolls. For entrees, I've only had the ahi salad and it is very good. The staff is fine. The atmosphere is noisy. It is an open layout with the bar in the center, booths along the perimeter and tvs everywhere. There are a couple of tables outside right on Main St.. I understand they are going to add more. Not bad, but not a must-eat-at stop either.

Very nice menu, always have great specials, & the staff treat you like family! Jen makes the best drinks in town! The food is fresh & creative. There is nothing boring or generic about the Tavern Grill. They always have new weekly special & a great happy hour too. The only problem.... it's so hard to make a decision on what to order because everything is So tasty!

I never need a menu at the restaurant since the stuffed meatloaf is tops. The only tough choice is the soup since everyone I've had there has been fantastic. Well complimented by the Black Butte Porter on tap. We brought our dog so we ate on the front patio. Service was great and the manager checked on us several times.

Just ok food. Always terrible service. It always seems to be a bother for the servers to actually wait on a table if you are not a regular patron. If they don't know your name, they just ignore your table. Guess they don't care about the tourist who stop on their way through town.

A group of 6 of us stopped here on our way from Jerome back to Sedona. We weren't super hungry but wanted a light bite to eat. This restaurant has an awesome menu, with huge meals or light bites depending on what you want. The waitress was amazingly friendly and the food was great. The flavored iced teas are also awesome. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Took my parents to Cottonwood to get out of the heat last weekend. Hadn't been there in 5 years and was surprised at all the activity in old town. We wandered thru a few of the tasting rooms and then had Linner on the patio next to the Main street at The Tavern Grille. The food was great, well priced, and service was spot on. Being from Phoenix, I can't tell you how nice it was t sit out side at 4pm and enjoy it in late June! This restaurant made the drive worth while. I would recommend the chili at least as an app. but warning you will want to share it as an app.- it has great chunks of steak and a terrific sauce. Yum.

One of my favorite places. Great food, drink and cool atmosphere. Very limited with beer on tap, but they did add Odell Brewing Co Easy Street Wheat. Awesome! Very good bar mix for mixed drinks. The combination of mojitos are great. The appetizers are great...esepcially the wings. But ask for extra ranch or blue cheese if you are are a dipper. The burgers are great. And the best French Onion soup in Northern Arizona. It's served in a small crock with oodles of melted cheese that you must break through to get the soup. Only 1 or 2 steaks a good mix of salads which are generous & desert if you ever get that far is good. Don't plan on a quiet evening, the room is surrounded with flat screens with multiple channels, there is lots going on that can keep your eyes moving. A tip, hit happy hour which is only at the bar from 4-7 (or 6??) drinks are half price as well as a limited menu of knoshes from the appetizer menu. Very good & keeps the cost down. The bar has limited seating so be on your toes when you get there to get a spot. Not many know of this little money saver.

Food is mediocre. Had fish n chips - greasy and the fish was on top of a very slimy piece of lettuce. Friend had taco salad. Shredded beef tasted a tad rancid. Lunch bill was close to $30! Have lunch elsewhere. One positive note: the ambience is upbeat and fun. It would be a good place for a microbrew and perhaps an appetizer.

Cool atmosphere in quaint Cottonwood, AZ. I went there for lunch with 2 of my friends. The portions were generous. I got the "salad and 2 mini sandwiches combo" which I squealed at when I saw, because I love getting to try little bits of different things. Their champagne salad dressing was very good and so were my mini sandwich offerings. I got the Chicken Salad and Turkey w/ Cranberry cream cheese. Both were great. I plan to go there again when visiting friends!

Was not sure about trying based on mixed reviews but lots of locals in nearby shops highly recommend the Tavern. Great service and food. My friend agreed. I had a vegetable wrap. It was huge and full of fresh veggies. It was also warm and the wrap was thin and flakey not the typical thick and tough variety. Fruit salad less than marginal especially for additional cost. Good beer selection

Cottonwood and a cool little downtown area and the Tavern Grille was no exception. I had a lavosh pizza with artichoke hearts, grilled peppers and grilled chicken with Havarti cheese...it was quite good!

Yelp came through again! We read the review and visited Tavern Grille during a recent visit. Great food and service! Onion soup was excellent, as was the generous portion of prime rib. Wish we were close be so we could enjoy eating there more often.

Had a great dinner here. Service was excellent and food was delicious and good size. I had the stuffed meatloaf and my husband had the salmon with artichoke sauce. We're only in the area for 2 weeks, but plan on returning!

The fare may be standard, but it's done expertly, and there's something to be said for mastering the classics. Reasonable prices, excellent service. And you can get Oak Creek Nut Brown or Amber here; I love a place that serves the local brews. I don't love the flat screen TV's that line the walls. I guess it's old-fashioned to want conversation while you eat, but that's what I want. Overall, a great experience.

Lunch at The Tavern Grille was definitely worth the drive to downtown Cottonwoood. The raw cement walls and finished wood tables gave the tavern a simple but distinct old tavern feel. The wheat beer on tap was refreshingly stout. The menu contained a variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads and heartier entrees. I visited during lunchtime, so I focused on the sandwiches and salads. The Filet Cobb Salad with champagne vinaigrette was tasty, and the steak was cooked perfectly med-rare, as I had ordered. I tasted the Cranberry-Turkey Sandwich, which was outstanding! The cream-cheese cranberry spread, carved turkey breast and fresh bread all blended together to crate a thanksgiving-in-August delight. The Prime Rib Dip was melt-in-your-mouth fantastic, and again, the grilled, buttery bread on this sandwich was fabulous! If you're looking for somewhere to grab a bite in downtown Cottonwood, or looking for somewhere to take a drive to, I highly suggest The Tavern Grille.

We Decided to stop in Cottonwood for lunch on a sunday before making the trek up the mountain to Jerome. The Tavern Grille got our collective vote, a very busy spot given it was football sunday and the walls are lined with flatscreen TV's which are the envy of any armchair QB with a pint in their hand. It's a sportsbar it's a tavern it's a sportsbar it's a tavern, still making up it's mind. I found the interior to be quite well laid out and designed and clearly this particular was given much thought. I'm not a fan of TV's and food in any measure so we sat outside, my lovely girlfriend was quiet agreeable. The menu is mostly comfort food and as any self respecting tavern it should be, although the choices seem in line with most big box type establishments. I found the wine list to be rather pedestrian that of which you can find at any reasonable grocery store, this was particularly disappointing given the Verdi Valley. If you can grow and make good wine in the middle of a desert you can do it anywhere, and any local eating establishment should give kudos to the their brotherin, especially one which seems to be a cornerstone to the local revitalized food scene. Our waitress assured us this will be changing soon enough, the beer list was more respectable. We ordered a sandwich with a homemade soup and a burger. The soup was very good and clearly well crafted, I can't attest to the sandwich but was given a thumbs up, I have to say this was one of the best $10 burgers I've ever had with pure angus beef and high quality garnish, I was told to order the sweet potato fries and they were great, I highly recommend them here. The menu clearly has standards although typical, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Sit outside if you can unless a dozen large panel TV's are your cup of tea. Eat or pass = eat! :-)

The Tavern is one of the those places I've tried several times because I want to like it. I just don't. The food is fine but never anything special and I've been seriously disappointed in service every time I've been there. It's not horrible - it's just nothing special.

When The Tavern Grille first opened, I was amazed that we had such a cool place in Cottonwood. It is shiny and upscale looking. I think I went to lunch with coworkers & dragged my mom back for dinner the same night! There are flat screen TV's lining the walls & a nice bar in the middle. BUT, the novelty wore off pretty quickly. The food is decent, but not really exciting. They have some weird things on the menu that I never got around to trying, but also your typical salads, hamburgers, soups, & prime rib at night. My sister loves the garlic cheese bread that is served with marinara & the rest of the family likes this place pretty well too. However, when I'm in town I insist on going to its sister-restaurant across the street - Nic's is a way better meal.

I like this place but it's not nearly as awesome as others suggest. Well....I take that back. It's really good for Cottonwood but compared to other restaurants in other cities it's only decent. The interior is nice and service is friendly. The menu is quite standard (read:not that exciting) but it is tasty.

Couldn't have picked a better place if I tried! We were heading back to the Airport from Sedona and decided to make a stop in Cottonwood to check it out and have lunch. Walked around and really enjoyed the little town and what it had to offer. There were seven of us so we had severn different tastebuds, dairy needs, and stomachs to work with. Sometimes that can be tough when it comes to a group of people. All seven of us were sat down comfortably with a very nice waitress named Melissa. She was good at her job! Got us drinks, order, and the sides we asked for with little fuss or muss. Nice Job Melissa!! I had the Ahi Tuna Wrap with fries. WOW! Some Beach! It had great taste and flavor! A nice surprise was their horseradish cream dipping sauce. It was perfect amount of heat (it didn't take your nose hairs off.) Its a pleasant dipping sauce that went really well with the wrap. My husband had the beef sliders. They nailed it! I got a bite and was amazed with the flavor of the meat in addition to the softness and taste of the bun. I would've been disappointed if my Ahi Tuna Wrap wasn't so fantastic. Everyone... I mean EVERYONE enjoyed their lunch including our two vegetarians. I was supposed to say this too. The sweet potato fried were delicious. I'm not a sweet potato anything so I took their word for it. This is a must stop if your in the area! The history of the town and building is a great read as well. It used to be the oldest running single movie theater in the U.S.! They did a great with the place. Easy going vibe that's relaxing and enjoyable.

The food is decent here in my opinion - not mind blowing but good enough when you're stopping by. Our family was on vacation two weeks ago and we were recommended this place by the locals. I got the tuna salad, which had these crispy noodles, mushrooms & salad greens. The tuna was well prepared but the rest of the salad wasn't inspiring. My dad got the burger which looked good. My sister and mom both got gyros, while one had soup and the other had sweet potatoe fries. It seems clean & the service is good. I can't put a finger on it, but I think the food could be improved.

We drove in to the Sedona area for several days after four days at Zion and were looking for a casual food and good burgers. It turned out that none of our family ordered burgers, but we had a great meal here. I had a Dark and Stormy, one of my favorite summer drinks and have to say it was one of the best Dark and Stormy's I've had. The coconut shrimp appetizer was just average --- the shrimp a little tough and the dipping sauce a forced combination that was a bit tasteless. The entrees we ordered were wonderful. I had the Philly cheesesteak and it was exceptional --- nicely shaved pieces of meat with onions, peppers and cheese on a lightly cooked roll along with au jus. My wife had the French Dip we she equally enjoyed. Our oldest had a pasta dish which was an extremely large portion and while not something I would have ordered, he liked it, while our daughter had a perfectly cooked sirloin steak topped with blue cheese along with mashed potatoes and vegetables and our youngest son had the sirloin sliders. The menu was more expansive than we expected and although we can't speak to the quality of everything, all the meat dishes were great and the prices were very reasonable. Finally, the building is very charming. It used to be a theater, once one of the oldest continually operating theaters before it burnt down. The owners bought the property and kept some of the original side walls so it had a nice modern yet retro vibe. I'd definitely return here and highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for solid American food and drinks.

My friend and I choose this spot for dinner on the 4th of July. I was impressed with the customer service and the staff was very friendly. The food was tasty and we both enjoyed a red, white and blue daiquiri. located downtown cottonwood near some of the wineries we visited. return factor is high.

I like the Tavern. I appreciate that they are open in the evening, for one. And the wine selection is solid, they have a tasty selection of salads and appetizers and it's elegant enough for a date, but casual enough to watch the game.

Great food and great service! What more could you want? The Philly sandwich is fantastic. My husband had the soup salad and bread plate and the serving size was hardy. We enjoyed two local beers. Nothing but good things this place, and Becca was a fabulous server!

Stopped in for a couple drinks and appetizers. Was hh on a Saturday which was pretty cool. Great AZ micro brews (on hh). Spring rolls and beer battered green beans for appetizers. Green beans were amazing! Good service and atmosphere for hanging out. Will be back next time in cottonwood.

Having much family visit everyone loves The Tavern. The menu is pretty good, I am not in love with anything in it but everything tastes very good so it evens out. I do love the large booths and dark atmosphere though I loathe the TV's! Do I really need to stare at a game while I am trying to eat with my family? I think not. And the dumbing down of Americans lumbers on...

If I had realized that this was part of a chain that is actually located in Scottsdale I would have gone for something more localized. The manager and staff were both very nice and they handled my returned food like professionals. Just be aware that if you order the tavern Philly, the menu says sliced beef, but it is actually rare prime rib that is inside that sandwich. Rename it "The Prime Rib Philly" to avoid confusion. Otherwise the artichoke dip appetizer was great, but the lavosh bread is the wrong item to dip in that thick dip. My second entree was a chicken quesadilla, which was packed with white chicken and good flavors inside including onions and peppers. Other items that were good were the Turkey Melt. They also talk alot about fires occurring in the building over the years and it is cool to dine amongst the visible charred walls. If you order the right items here, you will have a good dining experience.

I probably didn't order the right dish, but this restaurant didn't seem like anything special. I tried the cheeseburger and also ordered the chicken tenders as an appetizer. The chicken tenders were awesome, but they only came with ranch; I would have enjoyed the lunch more if some honey mustard was up in that bitch. The cheeseburger was huge and difficult to hold. It was overly moist and fell apart after a few bites. I still trudged on and ate it, though. It was really average at best, so next time I come, maybe I'll try another entree. I would be willing to give The Tavern Grille another chance. It's an "A-OK" option and definitely worth trying out.

Great food, delicious mixed drinks and very nice staff! We dined here on a whim and it was a great start to our girls night in Cottonwood! We were sat promptly despite being busy. Had a huge table outside on the side walk. We were greeted by the manager and our waitress was very attentive and engaging. They have a great happy hour menu and drink menu. We ordered the rime rib sliders - they were juicy and only $5!!! I had the prickly pear drink and it was not too sweet and not too sour - so good! I'd highly recommend coming here. They do not host a lot of local wines. That was a little disappointing as that's why we were in Cottonwood.

8 of us tried to sit outside on one of the patio and was told we can't because "it's a fire risk". Hmmmmm. Anyways, went inside and the place was nice and cool and they gave us the back area that sat 8 comfortably. Food was great. Veggies wraps rocked (and I'm no a veggie) and the spring rolls were equally as good. Server was wonderful and didn't have a problem with 4 individual checks. Very attentive and speedy. The cheesecake.........yeah. Not so good but the creme brûlée rocked. Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful part of cottonwood. Stop by!!! I'm going back!

Pleasant atmosphere, good service and a good stout!! Definitely left full and content. The fillet medallions were very yummy. Soup and salad were good. Artichoke dip was ok. The creme brûlée was a deep dish that was super yummy. Over all a good place to dine.... Still looking for a good Gastropub... It's kinds close. Cheers!!

My girlfriend & I ended up in Old Town Cottonwood on the Fouth of July & decided to go into the Tavern Bar & Grill. This was the best experiance we've had in a long time!! Our waiter, Gordon was awesome & was spot on. My girlfriend orderd the Buffalo Wings & they were so good. The best I've had in a very long time. I ordered a burder with blue cheese & it was the best burg I've had in forever!! It had a supurb taste & the edges on the patty were charred perfectly. We will definately be going back & asking for Gordon to be our waiter!!

This is a pleasant surprise! We stayed at the Tavern Hotel & picked up a couple of coupons & popped in for happy hour. We had the sliders (prime rib & tavern) & lettuce wraps - on happy hour, each plate was $5. They were kind enough to put the sliders on gluten free buns (a big one cut to smaller sizes, which actually meant we had a full burger sitting in front of us). They also swapped out the sauce for the chicken lettuce wraps for something gluten free. Sitting at the bar is always a good way to meet people. The bartenders were fast & knowledgeable. They even introduced themselves, asked out names, & called us by name for the evening. Friendly staff & good service is definitely a standard here. We'll be back for sure!

Never had a terrible experience here! The prime rib sliders are to die for and generous portions. Also the lahvosh and the artichoke appetizers are outstanding! The chili is just so-so (needs more meat and portion way too small). Host friendly. Wait staff hit or miss. Have waited and waited and waited for drink refills. Refills on iced tea are NOT FREE which I think they should change. Great historical location and atmosphere; feels more like you are in a bigger city when inside. Small area out front for patio seating and that people-watching street-cafe' experience. Owners are established in area (live upstairs) and also own Nic's across the street, as well as Haunted Hamburger in Jerome. Prices are mid range/reasonable. This is where I take visitors from out of town. Overall wonderful.
