Consistently good food! We've eaten there a couple of times now and each time we've been very pleased. The food is fresh and, as expected, generous in portions (always take enough home for a second meal). I highly recommend their pork dishes, especially the Port Carnitas! The Deluxe Burrito is also excellent (I had the picadillo -- shredded beef). There margaritas are also very good -- nice pour for the price. Discovered this is a family chain with four stores in Arizona: Cottonwood, Flagstaff, Kingman and Sedona. Wish I'd known when we were in Kingman!

I'm going to go with the three stars because this place is, well... OK. Been here a few times when camping in Cottonwood, and twice the service has really sucked, especially if you are seated in the back (bar) area. It's almost like they forget you are back there. Waited 17 minutes for chips, salsa, and waters, on a 100+ degree day. Unacceptable. Yet, the food is pretty good, so don't let the Negative Nancy in me spoil the report!

I don't understand the low ratings for this restaurant. We found the food very delicious. The service was good, prices were good, and it has a colorful decor. I had my usual cheese enchiladas and corn tamale and I love them both...especially the tamale which was sweet and filled with corn. I definitely would eat here again anytime.

I must admit, when I saw it was a chain of restaurants, I felt a bit disappointed. But I thought it was excellent. We had the Plaza Bonita Special, which had shrimp, skirt steak (very tasty) and came with the usual suspects of a basket of chips, salsa, and the meal included beans, rice and tortillas. My brother did grumble that for the price ($16) it should have had more beef and shrimp, and less beans and rice. I would probably agree with that. The only concern I had about service was we stood there for a few minutes before anyone acknowledged us. But once seated, the waitress was wonderful.

My colleague and I were super pleased with our meal here last night. The restaurant is large and clean. The beer was cold, the burritos delicious. I LOVE the chips and salsa. Especially the salsa. Truly, I could drink it. But that might invite strange looks.

The name has been changed to plaza bonita. Great food and great service. Lots of different stuff to choose from. My wife likes the dish with the garlic shrimp. If you like spice you can ask for the habenero sauce. Burns your tongue! theres alot of different things to choose from on the menu that i haven't seen at other restaurant.

We ate here because it was within walking distance from our hotel. Food was decent and the service sucked (hostess was terrible/rude and "be back in a minute" seems to mean 10). After about 9pm, the restaurant and bar got extremely busy. On a positive note, they're not shy with the tequila in the margaritas. Service is much faster in the bar. Back to the bad--after dinner, I puked. Probably won't be going back...

This is white people mexican food. Nothing authentic, nothing exciting. Had good margarita's but the waiter hitting on my friend and I was very off putting. I have eaten there twice and it was enough. There is better mexican food places in town that actually tastes like mexican food

We are exploring Mexican Restaurants in the Verde Valley and so far...this one is the winner. I've read other reviews about service, but we've always found the service GREAT. The food is good, not terribly creative, but always good. Awesome fajitas, very good green corn tamale. The house margarita is one of the best in the area and you can go up from there with specialized margaritas. Hubby likes that they have Dos Equios on tap. We've been there dozens of times and go back for more!

Black bean soup spiced just right and delicious vegie fajitas. Some language barrier if you don't speak spanish i.e. ask for 'cal' if you want limes instead of lemons. Went there several times but last time, soup was cold, sent it back and they just brought the same bowl back nuked.

The food was average, but the service was very poor. I have been here 3 times, and it has gotten progressively worse. Even when it's not busy at all, we have been ignored. No refills on beverages. No real "atmosphere" to speak of. Typical Mexican restaurant and all the decorations that go with it, but without the warm service. I will not be giving them another chance.

I'm sorry to disagree with the other reviews. We visit Casa Bonita about once ever two weeks. The only times I've ever seen the place near enpty is in the mid afternoon. The food is, in my estimation is above average. Al recipies authentic Mexican as the owners mother has generated them. The Mexican culture is laid back and they exhibit those traits. The bill is never rendered until you request it, pehaps that is what the other reviewers take as inattention. If we were treated as the other reviewers stated, we too would never return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
