We visit this place all the time since it's so close to our office. Some of the best pastries. We often stop by for a quick breakfast pastry or lunch sandwich. We take it to go most times, and the few tables they have are often filled up. They have ready made sandwiches which are convenient for the person on the go. The prices are good, and the service is friendly.

I second Geordie's praises of their baked goods & pastries. Those "morning buns" are killer. If you're picking them up to take home, get a couple extra - they're THAT GOOD! If you don't, you'll end up eating them all on the way home and your family will be sad. I also wanted to add they have great quiche at lunch time - and on a side note, they sell their french bread to some of the local restaurants (one in particular in Palmer that is near my house...) and you can really tell the difference.

There are so many delicious options to choose from. Whether you're looking to enjoy a sweet morning treat, or get a nice soup and sandwich for lunch; North Star Bakery is a great place to stop and have a bite to eat! The staff is always friendly and make a mean mocha latte. Enjoy, fellow yelpers!

The girl working at the counter was very nice and pleasant, but the quality of the pastries was disappointing. We tried the magic cookie bar, the chocolate pb bar, the cheese Danish, and the raspberry Danish. The dough in the Danishes was mushy, not at all flaky, the chocolate pb bar was pasty, and the magic cookie bar was one of the worst I've had.

I call from Ohio every year to order a birthday cake for my daughter who teaches near Wasilla. They deliver it right to her school and her staff LOVES her!! I'm told that the cakes are delicious and the pictures I've seen are beautiful! Thanks North Star. Go Bucks!

I LOVE this place!!! The newspaper did a story about the owner a few years ago and he talked about making bread and what a science it is, but also how much he liked to experiment when making it. This is a bakery in a strip location midway on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway. It's been open for I am guessing about 5 years now and has developed a following. They are known for their airy, light rolls that can be used as buns or buttered for dinner...they sell out of them and you have to order them ahead of any big holiday. They make all kinds of hearth breads and lots of pastries, too. They sell sandwiches and pizza slices at lunch but all I have ever tried are their pastries and rolls. In particular I have a fondness for their croissants. Chocolate filled or sugar coated as the "breakfast bun" they are fabulous. I know one woman that took a dozen of the chocolate filled ones back to her daughter in Colorado, the daughter loved them so much! She hand-carried them on the airplane, which would have been torture ("oh honey, I thought you said you wanted half a dozen!") The last time I was in, the pastry chef/owner was concocting something in the back. He came out and flagged me back. I stood there, "ME?" "Yes you! Come back and look at this!" Never one to turn down a chef inviting me into his kitchen (ah... memories of working at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island with the Austrian apprentice chefs...I digress...). I went into the kitchen and was shown a peak at some wonderfully rolled croissants in his oven. He said, "Look at these!!! Look at these! Aren't they wonderful???" I commented that they looked like the Pillsbury Dough Boy and he countered they looked like the Michelin Man!! We laughed and swapped stories. It's so cool to be around someone who is passionate about their trade. It shows in the product too. I was standing at the bakery in WalMart last summer and a tourist asked me and some woman nearby "are there any bakeries around, real bakeries?" She spoke up and said, "No, not here, only in Anchorage." I started to tell him about North Star and she interjected, "it's in a strip mall place, it's nothing I'd go to." I almost decked her right there by the mass produced donuts!!! My exclamation started with an "EXCUSE ME? Have YOU ever BEEN THERE?" and ended with me giving the guy directions on how to get there. I mean, we damn near had a bitch slap going. That's how mad I was. Well, even without her business (and maybe I scared her into trying it and now she dutifully puts in her order for rolls like the rest of us), North Star has no problem getting - and keeping - customers. Big Smile. That's my "happy place".
