I used to love this place in high school. My mom knew I could be put in a great mood if she just got me a bagel from this place. The bagels were always hot and toasty, crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. They would also load their bagels with cream cheese without you even asking. Recently I just moved back to valley after a few years away and was so excited to have it again and was really disappointed. I've always had a rule that I will try any place again after they have screwed up in my book- well Bagels Alaska, you've had both chances! The first time I came back my bagel was cold after I asked it to be toasted, when I asked the girl she looked at my blankly and said "It is toasted" and offered nothing to fix it. After I took a bite I knew something was wrong. The bagel was doughy and didn't have any crunch to it at all as if it was undercooked. There was also literally no cream cheese on it. It looked as if she had intentionally tried to put only the littlest amount on. I took it back (something I rarely do). They just slapped a little more cream cheese on it instead of remaking me a new bagel so I was left with a sloppy cold mess. The second time I went was just this morning. I decided to be a little more aggressive in ordering and asked several times for it to be toasted and please put a lot of cream cheese on it. The high school girl seemed annoyed with me but brought out a similar bagel. Barley warm, with a little more cream cheese than the last time. I guess better than the last because I actually ate it. I really do not get on here to write awful reviews I just want them to get back to making great quality bagels. I understand that they are under new management but that isn't really an excuse. They need to get some better staff in there that understand how to make a bagel and can realize that if they provide better service they can get better tips. Apparently high school girls don't realize that these days. Fortunately a liked this place so much I might try again if I heard things had changed. Other customers may not.

Wow, this place under the first owner was great, but once they sold it and now I think it's on their fifth owner, it just sucks. The reason? They hire kids who don't know what they're doing. It's not that hard to make a cup of espresso, or toast a bagel, but they've managed to screw that up too.

Bought a Nanana wrap today which is typically my favorite lunch item. Was hugely disappointed about the size, half of what I have become accustomed to getting and for the same price too. $11 is ridiculous if thats how big they're going to be now. More then likely won't be getting another one.

I so miss a great onion bagel with lox, cream cheese, tomatoes, onion and a few capers. After reading here on yelp that this place has exactly that, I was on a mission. I first went to the place on the yelp map; they're not there. Reading one of the reviews I saw one reviewer saw this store from Fred Meyers so I went there and asked; it moved away from there more than a year ago. The contact phone and address here are correct, so I did next drive the 5 miles east to find this place. What a mistake. First clue is a 30 foot high sign that is blown over and unfixed. Second clue should have been the floppy sign out front that proclaims "under new mgmt". Third clue should have been when lox was nowhere on their menu. But its a bagel place so I asked. Sure they have lox. So I ordered. It looked good. First bite, it tasted off. So I put in down and look inside. Yech. The lox has actually turned bad for a quarter inch around the entire perimeter where it is a dark brown - not the normal lox-orange. I left it at the table, took my coffee and left. After I realized that the coffee was more like 10 percent hot coffee and 90 percent hot water I realized that I had wasted my eleven dollars entirely. This is my first experience with Bagels Alaska. For all I know every last thing on their menu is wonderful except for the lox. I wouldn't know. And I"m not likely to find out either since I'm not going back. Anyone know where I can get a great onion bagel with lox and cream cheese?

I think the place has changed owners but it was started by a guy from New Jersey. In the 6 years I have been getting bagels here, they are still fantastic. I would put them up against ANY of the Anchorage bagels. They are crispy on the outside and nice and chewy inside and they load it with cream cheese if you order cream cheese with them. They are SO GOOD!!! God help us if they every close...

On a whim, I decided not to get sandwiches at Fred Meyer's deli because out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Alaska Bagels. The quality of the ingredients and bagels are amazing. I picked up a roasted veggie & provolone on plain and prime rib w/ horseradish on Asiago. The roasted veggie was not greasy at all; it was perfect, except maybe I should've asked for a sauce with a kick to it. My sandwich came with potato salad, but I subbed it for a small garden salad with balsamic vinagrette. Here's a link to their menu: bagelsalaska.com/Bagels_… I really like the decor of the place, it's ecletic and guys would feel comfortable grabbing something here. They make their own myriad of cream cheeses, I'm just sorry it was lunchtime and I didn't try out any. From their menu it looks like they do soups, wraps, and breakfast as well. This is definitely a good, healthy place. Read about their story here: bagelsalaska.com/Bagels_…
