Great Mexican food - certainly among the very best in Casper (and I live in SoCal so I'm used to excellent Mexican food). I had a shredded, marinated pork burrito smothered in green chili. Delicious.

Best Mexican Food in the Rockies ! It's all authentic hand made tortillas and guacamole ! The prices are very reasonable and they don't give you junk food like the rest of the so called Mexican restaurants.

I knew it wouldn't be the best Mexican food I ever had, but my steak was really overcooked and over-seasoned. The quac wasn't great. My dad really enjoyed his food and margarita, however, and the waitress was very nice and helped me choose what to eat with my allergy constraints.

To be fair, let it be known that we are from Southern California where there is a GOOD mexican food place on every block. Don Juan's would be a 1/2 star place at best. But this is Wyoming so I will be generous with 2 stars. The food was a poor effort. Starting with the table tortilla chips obviously from a bag. The salsa was little more than ketchup. I had enchiladas and I am betting the sauce was from a La Victoria can. The best thing on the plate was the refried beans. Our waitress was less than friendly but to avoid piling it on too bad I will just stop.

Coming from so cal, this place is the closest to a Mexican joint your going to get in Casper. I went in homesick for some real Mexican food. This place filled that need in an instant. They have all the non-typical foods/meats lengua, and about 3 other meats I can't remember how to spell. The place is run by a very nice family. I asked them "what's the most authentic thing you make? I'm from SoCal and I'm craving real Mexican food" the mother of the restaurant made a real plate of slow pork with green chile and home made tortillas, and a couple of shots of tequila made for the perfect late dinner. The second time I went for lunch had the lengua street tacos $2 an perfectly tender meat. If your in casper and you want some real Mexican. Come here order the street tacos, the whole fish, menudo, or just talk to the waitress and you'll be happy

I had flautas and enchiladas with 4 different meats and it was not good. The meats were overcooked and dry. I sampled my wife's relleno and it was dry and not flavorful at all. She said the oil tasted old used to fry it. The sauces were bland and sparse as well as the cheese. Thumbs down.

I work near by and coworks come for toco Tuesday. What a joke, $1.25, the price is small so I order two...they come and never saw anything that small. They were smaller than mini tocco's. The service is bad...do not try to get in and out all in one hour.

When I first walked in it did have a Mexico feel about it, especially the bathroom, it was clean just strangely placed. The chips were not fresh, tastes like they came from a bag. Salsa was mediocre. Service was pleasant and in a timely manner. We got a chimichanga and the carne asada plate both were average to good. I've definitely had worse Mexican food.

Maybe I wouldn't give this place five stars if it were in California or somewhere with millions of Latinos, but for Casper, it's better than the other Mexican places I've tried. It's not your standard anglo atmosphere here, and the food is good. I had some menudo and it was very flavorful, thick and rich. Their tamales are only a buck-and-a-half each and pretty good sized, with a nice red sauce. I think I'll eat there tomorrow...

More like a diner with a small space, sleeved menus, and kitchen chair style settings. Food was ok. Service was good. About the same as any other, but with so much Mexican food, ill go somewhere else next time.

It is my belief that this place is the best Mexican food in Casper, it doesn't look like much but who the fuck are you, some celebrity? I'd say on the whole they season everything much better than Guadalajara which is the swinging dick here in town, although their fryed ice cream is not as monolithic. I like the carne asada, carnitas tacos are good as well, the rice could have more flavor... But overall this place is very solid and underrated.

Everything about this place is mediocre. They take forever and then when you get the food it is very bland and not worth that wait. Spend your money and time elsewhere. La Cocina is a better choice.

  • Tom L.

So to start off the chips seem to come straight from a bag and the salsa is, eh. They don't have white queso cheese and their margaritas are so, so. The reason I did give them at least 3 stars was that the main entree was pretty darn good. I would go back here, if there was nothing else open

  • Phil E.

A high three stars. Would be four stars but I've had to wait too long too many times. Great green chili, and Taco Tuesday is a bargain. Don't be in a hurry, though, and know that they probably won't start your call-in order until you get there. More authentic Mexican fare than you might expect in the middle of Wyoming.

During the blizzard that swept through Casper recently, I was hungry and didn't have much to cook with in my house. So I took a stroll in the snow down 2nd street looking for an open restaurant. The only place open was Don Juan's. I've passed by this establishment hundreds of times intending to stop in someday, but never getting around to it. Well due to the snow, the rest of the restaurants left me with no other choice. Don Juan's it was. After my evening dinner, I am thinking to myself, why didn't I stop in sooner. The food was great! I ordered steak quesadilla for an appetizer, and had the steak fajitas for my entree. The portions were huge enough for two. The flavor was bomb diggity! The whole place was clean and well kept. Parking would probably be an issue on a busy Friday night as there is only a few spaces in front. You may have to park a block or so away if there's no spots in front. Good food, good service, I'll go back, and not just because they're the only place open next time...

The food was so so. Not the best but not the worst. We ordered carry out and our order was not completely correct. The wait was long. They said 10 - 20 minutes. We got there after 30 and our food was still being prepared and we had to wait almost 10 minutes for it (they were not busy; had 3 tables sat, 2 of which were waiting to pay). I might order or go here again but likely not. Both chicken and carne asada tacos were very dry but burritos were good.

I had a shredded beef burrito smothered in green chili and it was delicious!! The green chili was by far the best green chili I've tasted in years! If I had to give one negative it was the rice. Definitely have had way better. The service was fast and friendly!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
