I may be a bit biased with this review, seeing as I have been coming to this restaurant for my ENTIRE life. Almost every weekend my family would come here for Saturday night dinner. Though we have all grown up, and my sister now has two children of her own we still come here for family dinners whenever I am in town. We have become close personal friends with nearly everyone on the staff and we still get a Christmas present from them every year. Every person that walks in the door is greeted as if they are an old friend, and if you have been there more than one time there is a high possibility that Mike already knows your name, favorite meal, favorite drink, and much more. It is the quintessential small town restaurant! Now for the food. As I said, I have been coming here for give or take 20+ years now. I still love the food and there are some things that they do here that I have yet to find another Chinese restaurant that can match. Their fried rice is second to none, and I have YET to find an egg roll in any other establishment that can match the Peking's. Among some of my other favorite dishes would have to be the egg foo young, the chicken chow mein, mu shu pork, spicy chicken, lo mein, hot and sour soup ... The list could go on for a while. Also, the bartender (Kane) is wonderful. He makes great drinks and is probably one of the nicest men that you will ever meet. Writing this review, I am feeling extremely nostalgic and cannot wait to come back to WV and go to the Peking once again!

We were excited to try Peking after hearing some good things, however our experience was sub-par. The service was not very good -- the waiter was rude and did not return to the table after our meal was served. We had to chase him down for the check, and forget about drink refills. The food was mediocre Chinese food. Not very fresh. Not much taste. Just kind of bland. We were really let down and I don't think we will be returning any time soon.

Peking is a great place to gather family and friends in the evening for good food and lots of laughs, but my favorite time is Lunch! They have the best buffet in Martinsburg. I like everything on the buffet however my absolute favorite - the WINGS! They're not over done with too much sauce and they're tender and juicy. The lunch buffet is also the best deal in town. It fits my budget nicely. Look, I'm a cheapskate. I get to buy my lunch and my friend's lunch without breaking my wallet How cool is that?...

This is certainly an iconic spot in Martinsburg but I don't know if that is deserved. I went for the dinner buffet. The price is very reasonable but the food is only average. Also the service is confused at best. It takes a while to be seated and a long while for the staff to decide how to handle the presence of a new diner. It is also loud and hectic.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Maritnsburg (although I love the Sushi at Asian Garden). This place is a Martinsburg institution, with a great location and nice ambiance. The wait staff and owners are friendly and welcoming. Food is good - nothing unusual, just good, solid American-Chinese food with fresh ingredients. Hell of a lot better than srtip-mall take-out. The lunch buffet is nice, if small. A great place for dinner or a quick lunch.

Simply put, worst customer service I've received in a long time. Why? Bought tickets to their Chinese New Year party. Once nearly a foot of snow and ice rain fell, we could not attend. Knowing they had similar weather, we thought it would be postponed. Nope. However, when I called them, they were adamant about no refund. No refund, no gift certificate, no sorry. While I was simply voicing my complaint, and not in a rude way, because I get why, the fella on the phone states to me he has to go because there is another call. Needless to say, I spent $50 to be talked down to like a child and that to me needs to be noted as poor customer service. Expect that same energy when they are cooking your food. A kind of whatever, inconsiderate attitude to getting you in and out of their restaurant. If you have a complaint, you can simply talk to someone else. Fortunately, I can point my tastes elsewhere, where the customer service is superb and I'm treated like an adult. Sorry Peking, you have one more non-recommendation running around. I wish you could've just heard me out and we'd be good...........maybe. I'm still a little perturbed that you took my $50 with nothing to show for it. And I'm sure the other 200 people who bought tickets aren't all going to be able to make it either with ice on the ground and 8-12 inches of snow on the unplowed roads.

Great food, very friendly staff! Efficient service when eating in or taking out. Parking is always difficult downtown, but still worth it. Sad that it's completely empty sometimes, but of course other times you can't get a seat. Most all of their food is amazing. I haven't found anything I haven't liked yet!!

After a fairly poor meal at Blue White across the street, we looked for another restaurant we could take our relatives to. We walked by the Peking Restaurant and popped in. At first glance it looked a little disreputable like other shops on Queen Street with a local sort of slumped over and reading a paper at a bar right at the front. We skedaddled and I made up my mind to come back for lunch. I went with my cousin, and as soon as you get beyond the bar the back area is filled with tables and quite nice! Excellent HOT (temp) wonton soup. I had done-to-perfection shrimp chow mein with crunchy vegetables and steamed rice with just the right touch of garlic. YUM. Wait staff is attentive without being around too much. I wish we had this place in my own town.

Like to enjoy strong drinks at a great price? Be sure to check out the back bar where Kane serves up his signature drink, a Kane Special. If you like Long Island iced teas the cocktail is similar IMO because of the multiple shots, but with a splash of fruit juice. I always order the beef lo mein and the dish never disappoints, plus I have some leftover. Super friendly staff, an interesting interior but there is one con: smoking is allowed in the back bar. Lunch portions are around $8 and dinner depends; $12 to $15 for an entree. The restaurant really is a gem, located in downtown Martinsburg with cheap on street parking. I enjoy going to PeKing as often as possible when I visit from NoVA. Enjoy!

The Peking has been THE place to go for chinese food in this area for a few decades now. As a longtime customer, I was worried that when they moved to the new location (only about two blocks from the original location), things other than just the location might change. Thankfully, the Peking is a good as it ever was, and the new location is actually quite nice. There is a small bar in the front, as well as a large bar in the back that is separated from the rest of the restaurant, so smoking is allowed in the back bar. There is also a fairly large balcony area that can be rented out for parties, which the Peking has quite often. They have an all you can eat buffet that, although small, is constantly being refreshed. You won't find any dried out rice or food thats obviously been sitting in the warming tray for too long. The buffet can also be made available for parties and special occasions. The menu has a wide variety of items. Most are the standard dishes that you would find at any Chinese restaurant. However, pretty much every dish I've ever had at the Peking tastes much better than the same dish at any other place I've ever eaten. Unlike many Chinese restaurants, they are very generous with their dishes as well. No shrimp dishes with only a few tiny, overcooked shrimp here. The shrimp are large and delicious, as they should be. Overall the food at Peking is outstanding, but anyone who has been to the Peking more than once knows what is really great about the place is the alcohol... I mean the staff (who make the alcoholic drinks). In all seriousness, it is the lack of seriousness at the Peking that keeps people coming back. The staff is fun, fast and friendly. Chances are that on your second visit, they will remember you and you will be greeted by the owner, Mike, shouting "HELLO! HOW ARE YOU? HAVE GOOD TIME! EAT PEKING!" as he bustles about the restaurant. If you like a good mixed drink, the Peking is known for its cocktails as well. There is the Flaming volcano, a large tropical flavored drink (meant for two people) served in giant bowl with a little volcano rising out of the middle which is filled with high proof rum and set ablaze. You blow out the rum, do the shot, and then attack the monster of a drink with your partner and two straws. The go to drink for most regulars is the Peking Mai Tai. The Mai Tai is fruity, strong cocktail... but that sweetness hides a powerful punch. For those who really want a tasty kick in bum, there is also the "Kane Special Mai Tai", named after the bartender Kane who is usually manning the large rear bar. The Kane Special is very similar to the regular Mai Tai only much stronger... not for the faint of heart or anyone planning to drive soon after. All in all, Peking does everything right. From their friendly, speedy staff to their outstanding food, the Peking will have you leaving happy every time.

Standard Chinese fare! Egg rolls not fresh, frozen! Nothing different here! Also, food too salty and greasy! I prefer good food as to paying for the decor! We had the buffet and it's not the first time we ate there, but it was the last.

Peking has been a staple in my wife's family for years -- and now it's part of our own tradition. The restaurant itself is actually very spacious; however, be warned -- in colder months, the restaurant stays pretty chilly (I can't fault Peking -- it is an old building). As for the food? .. It's pretty basic Chinese cuisine. While nothing is really 'over-the-top' the food itself is still a pretty decent quality. My only issues? .. The Crab Rangoons -- while they're my favorite else where, at Peking they're lackluster at best. And while they have a full bar in back, the 'special' drinks all seem to be the exact same -- and LOADED with alcohol. Not a bad thing, but be warned!! :) Next time you're in the area, stop by and say hello to "Alex" .. He's genuinely friendly!

Top notch Chinese, and this is from someone who's pretty fussy abut Chinese food. The drinks were well done, and everything on the Pu Pu platter, the Yu-Shiang Pork, and especially the Sizzling Beef were all delicious. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a pleasant meal while travel ling along Rt. 81 or staying near Martinsburg.

A 30 year+ tradition in Martinsburg. This is a GOOD chinese restaurant - it is not an Americanized chineze take out place. The family that owns the place do a great job. Their individual items are fresh-made and they can do more interesting things if you ask (I like the "special fish in garlic and wine and firecracker shrimp with baby bok choy). Because martinsburg is,well, Martinsburg, they have added a buffet. It is actually quite good even if you deplore a buffet. The back bar of Peking is always packed. Kaine, the bartender pours the best drinks in the town. It is laid back and a nice place to chill. All in all, Peking is the best place in a 50 mile radius to have a decent meal and certainly the top chinese meal in well over 100 miles.

So disappointed. I read the reviews and thought "finally a great Chinese restaurant" within driving range. Went on a Saturday for lunch. The space was great but so disappointed by the food. As is typical with every other Chinese restaurant around Hagerstown, MD to Martinsburg, WV, they are afraid to season. And as is typical, even if you insist you like spicy food and ask them to make it extra spicy, the dish never has any heat. The sesame noodles barely had any flavor. The General Tso's chicken was indistinguishable from the orange chicken and while the portions were generous, bland is about the best I can say. Have to say I'm still going to have to go in the direction of DC for spicy, let alone flavorful Chinese cuisine (Gaithersburg is about the closest I've found so far). So if you like run-of-the-mill Chinese with nary a flavor to offend, check out Peking. Just be prepared for what you're going in for.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
