This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. I have been to many Mexican restaurants (a lot family owned, some not), and I am proud to say that this one is right up the road from my house. The food is delicious and fresh. It is always very clean and prices are great. My boyfriend and I love this place, not only for the food quality, but for the drinks and happy hour ;-) The chips and salsa are delicious and fresh, and the staff is always willing to accommodate you without complaint. Thank you!

Las Trancas, how I love thee. Best chicken soft tacos this side of the border. Period. Crispy, cakey, delicious taco salad shell. Tasty, plentiful scallops and shrimp in the fajitas del mar. Margaritas larger than your head. For the best tex-mex in the region, come here. They also now have a text-message sign up where you get 10-20% coupons texted to your cell if you haven't stopped in in a while. Mexcellent!

We went on a Sunday evening, around about 7:30. Soup was filling, and the pulled chicken was tasty. Service was quick and attentive. The bartender was very laid back and friendly. We were welcomed to stay after closing to finish our drinks and watch tv. I ordered 2 appetizers for my meal, as they are half off from 7-10, every day. Ceviche was my 2nd appetizer. It had raw shrimp , which I didn't know. So, the server politely took a percentage of my already discounted appetizer. Overall experience was positive.

I ate here Dec. 26 and ordered the beef tacos. A few hours later, I suffered a horrible bout of food poisoning requiring me to revisit my meal multiple times that night. Feverish, too. Waitress was pleasant, however.

I go in here on Monday nights from time to time. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and the service is (usually) excellent. We normally have a large party and we keep coming back so that should tell you something.

I was in Martinsburg for work and this place was down the street from my hotel. The drinks and chips & salsa were really good. The food over is ok, not spicy or a lot of flavoring which is what Mexican food is all about. It's ok but not the best. The staff is friendly and prices are fair.

Upon my seating I waited 5 mins to be seated, no one was at the register. Once I got a seat I ordered some cheese dip which was hardly hot at all. Then I ordered chimichangas deep fried and I had to send them back becuz they were done enough. Not my favorite Mexican restaurant but filled the belly.

These guys and gals do not know the meaning of portion control. The food is delicious and I always seem to order the shrimp dish in the picture. I always leave beyond full though.

Easily the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Our whole group was disappointed. My taco came in a soggy flour tortilla that was way too big. One bite and I was transported back to the middle school cafeteria: slightly pink watery ground beef with absolutely zero flavor. Have they never heard of seasoning? Or browning? Something on top of the taco (perhaps cheese and lettuce) was downright cold. I tried a second bite, and decided that I had experienced enough of that. At least the chile in my chile relleno had some flavor (no thanks to the cooking). The rest of it was a disaster: completely soggy outside, runny liquid on the inside. The chile rested on the plate in an indistinguishable pool of what were supposed to be refried beans and possibly sauce. I got the impression that every decision in the kitchen was driven by the question: "what is the cheapest way we can possibly do this?" Try Taco Bell if you want something better. On the plus side, our waitress was really sweet and very attentive. The chips and salsa aren't bad.

This place USED to be the best, but it's changed hands so many times, it really is the pits now! Used to be crowded all the time too, but in passing, see lots of empty spaces in the parking lot at dinner time and weekends. When ever we would have relatives come to visit, this was the place to go! Notice I said "WAS!"

Good variety on the menu. Our first visit here. We ordered fajitas for two (chicken and beef-steak). This came as expected, We also ordered guacamole dip to add to the salsa that came with the nacho chips. The guacamole dip was delicious. We would need to come back and try a few more dishes to get the full picture of what this restaurant has to offer. I did ask if the crab meat in the various dishes was imitation, and they said, no...if anyone else knows otherwise, please post.

Possibly my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Polite staff, great prices and delicious food. Personal favorites here are the enchiladas, quesadillas and guacamole dip. I recommend their margaritas but take warning they will mess you up.

Been looking for a good Mexican restaurant since I arrived in the area. Decided to try Las Trancas. Arrived on a Friday night about 7, restaurant was crowded, but was able to be seated pretty quick. They have a good selection of Mexican dishes. I always judge them by the salsa and chips to start. The salsa had a good taste to it, not very hot. The chips were fresh, crisp, and not greasy. I also decided to try their cheese dip. I am a fan. It had a nice taste to it. no heat though. I ordered the tacos de carne asada. It was 3 corn tortillas with carne asada and a side of rice and beans. There was nothing on the tortillas except for the beef. They gave you a side of pico de gallo and another salsa. I really enjoyed it. The beef had a great taste to it and the pico was awesome. The service was excellent. Did not have to wait long for our food either. I will go back and try some of the other menu items.

Service was good but not excellent, but the food was amazing. We've been looking for some good Mexican in the area and FINALLY found it.

We found this place while looking for a non-chain, non-fast food restaurant off of 81. The food was decent and so, so cheap (dinner for two for just 17 bucks.) The waiter was on top of everything and even gave us some free queso dip to try. Good find for travelers.

I love this place. Call yourself Las Trancas or your former El Ranchero- I love it. I dont give a hoot why the the name changed after being closed for a few months- My imagination can only assume- I dont care. I have a great immune system, I can handle whatever they send my way! ;) Grande Chicken Burrito Please. HUGE burrito filled with chicken/rice with cheese smothered over the top. I ask for gauc on the side cuz everything can use a little gauc ;) I also order everything extra spicy. I dont know why they are conservative with the spice-ness but when you ask them to hand out the good stuff, they really serve it up! The chips and salsa are great, queso rules! Margaritas: Make sure you have a DD, or are prepared to taxi. These are so good, its heavenly! Frozen or on the Rocks. Lime, Rasberry. Mango, Strawberry- who the hell cares! Tequila, YES! When I visit Martinsburg, this is my number one spot. So delightful!

Wow...great Mexican in Wv?!? Amazing what turns up within walking distance of the crappy lil motel. Great friendly service, tasty salsa w/heat, & chimichangas with flavor! The guac and beans were great too! I'll be back later in the week.

So so. Standard mexican food. Food comes quick. Prices are decent. Only problem is that the health department closes them down on occasion.

The best chile relleno we've ever eaten. The Sopa Azteca is a go to when I don't feel like a lot of food. It's a delicious chicken broth based tortilla soup.

I wish I could say what some others have. This place is mediocre at best. My husband had chicken fajitas, he said they were the worst he has ever had. I had a taco salad without meat, I substituted rice for meat. They only put enough rice in so it covered barely the bottom of half the taco bowl, filled it up with 3 inches of lettuce. Will not be back.

We really like this place!!! Some of the best Mexican food in the region!!! Just the right sized portions and a very reasonable price!!! We have always had great service!!!

I typically would not leave a review and certainly not a negative review, but the service my family encountered tonight was horrible. The server seemed as if we were bothering him by being there. If you are looking for a good night out or some friendly service, look elsewhere.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
