    Habanero has tasty burritos.

Awesome food and great staff! Love it when they have the spicy shrimp for the tacos. My husband loves the burrito bowls. One of the few good local joints

For main street martinsburg, this is pretty good. I usually get the burritos. Always tastes fresh. If you look in the kitchen it's kind of dirty. Also the workers need to dress, talk and apear more professional.

Delicious. My favorite thing are the beef tacos. Service is always friendly and fast!! Try the Jamaica tea....it's more of a hibiscus tea and just right!

Habanero is just okay. In comparison to Chipotle, Habanero has a better menu, with way more options. They don't charge extra for guacamole, however they do charge extra if you get fajita veggies on your burrito. The staff is not very friendly. Lots of their food (the shredded yellow cheese, the ground beef, the flour tortillas on soft tacos) tastes too Americanized rather than Mexican.

Habenero is probably one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Food and service are always excellent. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star rating is they no longer serve alcohol. Beer and burritos are always a good choice. The food quality is by far superior to chipotle, and the portions are much larger as well. Chicken, beef, steak, or chorizo; doesn't matter what you choose they're all great. They also have vegetarian options. On Fridays they offer a spicy shrimp option which I have yet to try. Ask Nick or Cory to make your burrito into a quesarito, you will not be disappointed.

This place is amazing! I stop every time I come home to Martinsburg. They make everything fresh every day. The atmosphere and customer service is always excellent, even during the busy hours. If you're craving Mexican, go here instead of Taco Bell or Las Trancas. You won't be disappointed.

Habanero deserves some credit for trying to bring good ol' Mission-style burritos to downtown Martinsburg, as there is no Chipotle, Moe's, Qdoba's or whatever chain in sight. While there are plenty of Mexican restaurants around, none of them really stand out in quality or innovation and I'm not aware of any that have Mission-style burritos. The easiest way to review Habanero is to compare it to its franchised kindred, such as Chipotle. The menu is limited in the same way as other burrito places, and could pass as that of a food truck; that's not a knock on them. They know what they want to make and stick to it. I'm a little concerned for the future of the business as a Chipotle is in fact coming to town on Foxcroft in the near future and Habanero may lose some of their customer base if they don't do something to set themselves apart. For now, they make "good" burritos, but they aren't special and don't stand out as better than the chains. Of course, one of things that's made Chipotle and the like so successful is their use of fresh ingredients, so it's not the easiest to one-up. As for food in the area currently, however, Habanero is one of the few options that I consistently consider. It's good food, which is more than can be said for most places in Martinsburg.

This place is great. Seriously, the food is always fresh and the burritos and nachos are awesome. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Like Chipotle? You'll love this place!

What's not to like. Chipotle style menu served up with larger portions. Clean. Friendly. Pretty much a local take on a big chain and they offer up a decent meal. Some of the meats are Americanized with things like ground beef, but hey, nothing wrong with that. Nothing authentic, but pretty good.

Basically another version of Chipotle/Qdoba/Moe's. You walk up to a counter. Give your order from the list on the wall. They start building and as you move along you pick your toppings working your way to the register. Food was decent. Hubby and I both got burritos. Rice was not as good as Chipotle. Black beans were fine. Refried beans were rather bland. I got "mild salsa" aka pico de gallo, fine. Hubby got the extra hot. We were excited that there was an extra hot salsa option. Unfortunately it didn't live up to it's name. Fine taste, decent kick, but not "extra hot." All other topping were fine. Nothing of note good or bad. Neither of us got the guac because it looked kinda brown. My chicken burrito had a nice char flavor to the meat. My hubby's steal burrito had very bland meat. Both were HUGE. We couldn't finish them. We also got an order of chips & queso. Queso was good not wow. Same with the chips. All in all good not wow. We'd eat here again as an alternative to fast food. It beats McDonalds but not Chipotle, Qdoba or Moe's.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Eat here 1-3 times a week. Great food always fresh, with a friendly staff. My only complaint is the only have pork on Tuesday and it's the best and they should make it an everyday item. How hard is it to cook pork everyday? Not exactly sure. Also the kids cheese quesadilla is just over $3.00 without chips and a drink. I think with chips and drink, it's like $5.95 which should be like $3.95- $4.95. Very pricey for kids food. Just for the kids cheese quesadilla it should be $2 or under considering the cost. Now I just feed my kids pizza before I go there. So I can enjoy my meal without feeling like I paid too much for my kid's meals. A slice of pizza is like $2 or less.

My absolute favorite place to eat! Amazing food and amazing people. They always greet you with a smile and all of the food is fresh.

  • Jim H.

TASTELESS. On my way back to Cali today. Thank god! A soft taco shouldn't be a flour tortilla. And the beef is hamburger. I can't believe there isn't even a pork option. This place is owned by a Mexican, allegedly. Ha!

I could make this review simple and easy by saying this is a locally owned version of a Chipotle grill, which would be partially true. But then, that would sell them short. Habanero grill is MUCH better than my beloved Chipotle..... You are taken care of individually here. In fact, they'll probably remember what you order most... When they assemble your custom dish in front of you, it is done with care. My favorite dish is the Nachos. They'll put some chips in the basket, sprinkle some cheese, ad more chips, more cheese, and so on. The Jalapeños are fresh, not pickled, and there are handfuls of fresh cilantro available.. Free refillable soda cup with Military ID. Nice

Chipotle with a twist. Awesome service and polite employees. Everyone in the group liked there food and would return..

  • Todd B.

Definitely my favorite restaurant in Martinsburg. I eat here at least once a week. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and will fix your food how you like it. Large servings are usually more than one person can eat. You better be hungry if you order their burritos.

    (5)
  • Jennifer S.

Absolutely wonderful food. Who needs chipotle when we have habanero? We have eaten here numerous times and are never disappointed. Burritos, salads, you name it we've eaten and enjoyed it at habanero

    (5)
  • Erika B.

Not as good as Chipotle in my opinion, but that's mine. You should go at least once to decide on your own. I think it's a decent option compared to fast food. It is a casual place to get quick Mexican style food. And the staff is friendly and the price normal.

When they first opened, I was addicted. I traveled from Harpers Ferry, WV at least 2ce a month for the sole purpose of eating here. I brought friends from out of town, I loved it. Then a year ago, boom. They changed the queso recipe? I have no idea, but it just wasn't as good. I did not visit again for a about a year. I went back this week with high hopes, wonderful memories and NOPE. I ordered the veggie and bean nachos. Barely any cheese (they used to load it up, twice!), not as fresh tasting as it could/should/had been, chips were on the verge of being stale... Very sad. I pulled out 15 chips from my SMALL nacho that were completely dry of any topping what-so-ever. 'No boring bites'! The first rule of food preparation, folks. So very sad...

Way better than chipotle! I question anyone who thinks otherwise. Come on, people... Chipotle is run by the same people who run Mcdonalds. Chances are, you're not eating cow, you're eating a dog...and some rat poop. I love this place. There are way more options than chipotle, and you're served way more food. I've always hated how at chipotle when you ask for extra meat they charge you some ungodly amount, and throw three more pieces on. Last time we were at Habenero, my girlfriend ordered the burrito, and it was gigantic. I usually get the taco salad, which is great. Something about the taco shell is just so delectable. When I was on my vegetarian kick, I ordered it with tofu, and was surprised that the tofu was actually cooked quite well. Now, however, I get it with steak, and it's even better. They just pile the steak right on there. It's great. I usually get an order of guac, chips, and queso as well. I love love love their queso! It's very yummy. The only thing unappetizing about this place is the crack heads and meth addicts chillin' on the corner, but I suppose that can't be helped. Steer clear of a window seat.

  • Marie O.

Anybody who tries to compare this place or say it's not as good as Chipotle is clearly dillusional. The staff is really cool and funny, the burritos are fantastically made (and I dare say are larger than Chipotle's), and their queso dip is awesome. It's good to see places like this thrive.

  • Steve C.

I was not impressed. I walked in here on a night and I was informed they closed in 20 minutes and asked if I could take it to go. What could I say? To me, it is a wannabe Chipotle and doesn't come close. The beef aka ground beef lacked any type of Mexican seasoning, the chicken was dry. There are not many options, to me it was just bland, bland, bland. First and last visit.

    (2)
  • Lori H.

    It's Martinsburg's version of Chipotle.

    (2)
  • Ted S.

It's the non-corporate version of Chipotle but there is no discussion of financing when you request guacamole on your nachos. Or that moment when you try to figure out how you spent $27 on 2 burritos/cokes. The large steak nacho at Habenero is stupid big. Easily enough for two. I have no idea how they make money on it. Always fast. They seem to hire better than some of the other local restaurants. To sum up: It's probably the only restaurant around that would survive if it wasn't in Martinsburg.

  • Justin L.

Habanero's has always been among my favorite Martinsburg restaurants; now that I am vegetarian, it is even more so. I love the deliciously-filling burrito bowl with three vegetarian options (tofu, mushroom, or fajita veggie), and I love it when they pile on the restaurant's top-quality fresh ingredients. Also, this is the only place locally where I can order something "extra spicy" and actually get it. Ask them to mix a few drops of the "secret" hot sauce in with the normal "x-tra hot" sauce, and you chile heads will cry tears of joy! They also have a less-spicy ghost chile salsa (available seasonally). Delightful and delicious, and they make everything per your order.

  • Brent S.

Awesome! Better ingredients and better tasting than chipotle. Food is always fresh, staff is always friendly.

  • Miss M.

It looks like everyone has thoroughly taken care of comparing this place to Chipotle, so I'll be reviewing this establishment as an entity independent from a chain that also coincidentally peddles tacos. I've eaten at Habanero many times and have always found it to be fresh, delicious, and served at an appropriate temperature. The staff are friendly and the dining area is sanitary, though the chairs are hard and more appropriate for a banquet hall. Located downtown, parking can occasionally be a hassle and your chances of being approached by a panhandler are approximately 37%. Overall, a solid local place with fresh, bright, and moderately priced Mexican fare.

    (4)
  • Diane R.

Noisy and dirty! The staff couldn't smile if you asked them too! Pricey for what they serve! Wouldn't go back if you paid me!

  • Marco M.

Love this place, nice twist on Mexican Cuisine, like a "Mexican Subway". Go for burritos if you want something big to eat, on the light side soft tacos and taco salad. Next time I'll get the quesadillas. And also try the queso blanco (white cheese)

    (5)
  • Tracy M.

This is probably my favorite local spot. The service is fast and friendly, the food is very yummy and reasonably priced with generous portions. I love the taco salad! Similar to Chipotle without the food poisoning and health department violations.

  • Darby P.

One of my favorite spots for lunch. Similar style as qudoba as far as the set up, but the food is a lot better. Everything is fresh. Four homemade salsas, the hot (habanero) is my favorite but the medium (verde) is very good. If you can schedule your visit on a Tuesday, order the carnitas. I always get a burrito, and the portion size is massive. Nachos, quesadillas, salad, and tacos are also available. A great addition to downtown Martinsburg, which needs more young entrepreneurs like habanero's owner.

    (5)
  • Shelley K.

Wonderful, locally owned place with very fresh food. I love the burritos, burrito bowls, and nachos. The salsa is wonderfully fresh and tasty. I can't resist the grilled chicken, unless carnitas is on the menu. Very friendly staff and great prices.

  • Ryan P.

Delicious, fresh Mexican food served made-to-order. To give you the idea, it is similar in style to the Chipotle chain of restaurants, but with the character of a local establishment and friendly service. I frequent the restaurant a few times a month and am fond of the veggie burritos, nachos and tacos. Veggie filling options include fajita veggies, mushrooms, tofu or beans. For the meat lovers out there, you can get burritos, nachos, tacos, taco salads and/or quesadillas with your choice of chicken, beef, steak, or chorizo filling. Four salsas are available to suit your tastes from mild pico de gallo up to scorching hot habanero. The queso on the nachos is awesome, and I'd recommend adding guacamole to whatever meal you might choose as it is always fresh and tasty. All in all a great choice for good food, served fast when you're in Martinsburg.

  • Rob G.

I am not usually a fan of burrito places, I lived in San Antonio and have really high expectations for Mexican food now, but I love this place! It is a large portion of really great food for a good price, what more can you ask for?

  • Liz B.

Judging by the reviews, I thought I'd check this restaurant out while in the area. I was greatly disappointed. I ordered a taco salad with chicken, my husband had a steak burrito, and the kids had nachos. Both the steak and the chicken were very dry and I was forced to spit out burnt pieces of chicken while trying to eat my meal. All the while, the employees were talking about drugs and alcohol with a group of customers despite the fact that my children were right there. The only decent part of the meal was the queso on the kid's nachos. Definitely will not be coming back here.

  • Jonathan Z.

I loved the place, I went there about a month ago and was very excited. The food seemed very fresh and it was quite clean. They allow you to pick and choose various meats such as chicken, beef and Chorizo to top soft and hard tacos, Nachos and Taco salad. There is also a great selection of Hot to Mild spices and salsas to top it with.

Love Mexican. I mean really....is there anything better than queso? Well the best I've had is at Habanero. These guys are awesome! They serve everything so fresh, there isn't even a freezer on the premises! It's a little daunting if you don't know your Mexican food because the ordering process is a lot like subway. The good news is that the menu is limited to such things as burritos, tacos, taco salad, fajitas and nachos. The selections are endless when it comes to the ingredients and the service is fast and friendly. I highly recommend the beef burrito and the taco salad with extra queso (You'll pay more but it's worth it). Their busy hour is from noon till one as everyone who works locally walks on in for lunch. Try to get there at around 11:30 when the food is hot and at its freshest. The view from the glass windows are excellent for those who enjoy people watching. Esta bien!

riddle me this fellow yelpers..... how do you know your in one of the best mexican restaurants ever? when you walk in and all the workers are white (seriously, every single one of them) and you have the mexican owner doing nothing but standing behind the cash register collecting the tabs....you have to be good to have that kind of swag - and this place definitely has swag. we got off the interstate because we had to pee so bad we couldn't see straight. in turning on yelp's "monocle" and searching for "best places to pee" it pointed us towards "habanero". the selection/choices were totally awesome, the white workers knew how to roll a serious burrito (i wonder what they practiced that on), everything was fresh - no canned or jarred items here, there were vegetarian options, prices were reasonable and the mexican owner knew his restaurant was "all that"......thus the patrons were treated with kindness and respect like we were "all that". and last but not least - it was a great place to pee. muy excellente con mucho swag...... gusto....gusto.....

Habanero Grill is a cheap restaurant that gives cheap restaurants a good name. I had the steak soft tacos with pico de gallo, hot sauce, lettuce and diced onions; she had the same thing, with chorizo instead of steak. It's basic Mexican, and Habanero understands that the key is having fresh and well-seasoned ingredients. (Be advised that it's real chorizo, and it brings enough heat that you can afford to take the next step down for the sauce.) Pro tip: there's also a mercado across the street (Lupita's Grocery) where you can buy a Mexican (i.e., made with evaporated cane sugar, not corn syrup - yes, corn farmers' lobby, you can taste the difference) Coke to enjoy with your meal.

This place was recommended to me be a co-worker so I decided to try it out last weekend. I'm not sure there's a Chipotles in wv but this place is very similar to that however I do like the fact they have Spanish rice rather than Chipotles white lime rice since I can't eat citrus food. I liked the queso dip here, tastes similar to Taco Bells store bought queso but with added red peppers. The guacamole was starting to turn brown so I kinda wished it was a bit fresher but it didn't taste bad. The place feels like a cafeteria with sparse decor really. I'd probably stop by here again but i wouldn't go out of my way if a Chipotles was closer to me...plus depending what day you come you may have to pay for parking. Thanks "Taco"!

everything here is fresh and flavorful, nothing canned, nothing frozen! the food has more flavor than Chipotle. the "hot" sauce (orange color) is to die for. it is a bit spicy but so full of flavor. every friday is spicy shrimp, and I spend my whole week in anticipation of shrimp tacos. it is locally owned and those wondering who the owner is, it is the short red-headed girl, charly. be wary of adding even a smidgeon of extra anything as she will charge you at least $0.50 for any extra. most extras are $1.50. the bearded guy "taco" who always has a smile on his is the general manager and the friendliest guy you'll ever meet. he works there during the day so stop in for lunch and say hi.

Pretty good substitute for Chipotle. Love the queso!

I had a Chorizo soft taco. It was great. The Guacamole was really good. This isn't a fancy place. It's a small restaurant with tables and a counter where you place your orders.

Burrito snobs beware, a hard-core ethnic-style burrito joint this is not. . . but: 1. The bathrooms are reasonably clean (check). 2. The food is fresh and tasty (check). 3. The people that work there seem geniunely happy and appreciate my business. (check). 4. They sell homemade unsweetened and sweetened iced tea (check) 5. They are open 24/7 so I can get my burrito fix at all hours (sadly, no). This place has the consistency of a well-managed chain restaurant, the freshness of your mom's home cookin', and a slightly quirky but always friendly staff. I like meat but the tofu burrito is awesome too. I will make a lame excuse to go to Downtown Martinsburg just to have a burrito from here.

I am so sorry that I didn't try "Habanero Mexican Grill" sooner. Located in downtown Martinsburg @ 100 North Queen St. in one of Martinsburgs most historic buildings known as "THE MARKET HOUSE". I was greeted with big smiles and sincere welcomes from the staff. As soon as you walk in you get the feeling that this is the place to be. My order was to go. I ordered the "Shrimp Taco" special x 2 , "Chicken Fajita Platter" and "Chicken Nachos". The prices are fantastic and actually a bit less then ordering two large pizzas with 3 toppings delivered from a Non -Chain restaurant. Everything tasted fresh and looked fantastic. Man I couldn't get home fast enough to dig in. Wow, the food was great and very fresh. Everything is made from scratch and it tastes like it. One thing about the "Habanero Mexican Grill" is that you walk in and order at the counter and take your meal to the table, sort of like a subway but with much more class. They do serve alcohol. This place is simple, quaint and clean. I was quite impressed and cannot wait to go back and eat in. What a refreshing & different dining experience.

I have been there five times and I always get the same thing....a steak and chikcen burrito....mixed....half and half....it is good every time. I never stay because the decor is very typical....I liked to be waited on usually but on the go, this spot is good to stop in and get your food that you can hold in your hand and enjoy while driving down the road.

I went there yesterday for the first time and had a chicken burrito. It was great! Salsa verde was awesome. The place was very clean and simple but still had a nice atmosphere. I'll definitely go again. Plus, the burrito was HUGE.

Best of the best! Fresh yummy food, always made to order...friendly staff and the BEST Black Bean Hummas!! We eat here often and would (and do) recommend it to everyone!!!

  • Rich N.

Food was tasty and pretty good for the price. Sort of comparable to a Baja Fresh, except locally owned. I'll probably go there again. Besides that, the only thing I can recommend is to serve the food hotter (the meat was not much above room temperature - and this was during lunch hour), unless I just hit them at a bad time. Also -- and this is minor --the gentleman who took my order when I first got in line on the right -- it wouldn't hurt for him to smile now and then. I don't know if this guy was the owner or just an employee, but he was not real friendly, very somber, and didn't smile in the least. Of course, I'm going for the food, not to befriend the workers....but it doesn't hurt to be just a little hospitable and friendly instead of a just a stern robot taking your order. Hope that wasn't the owner.....but like I said, I'll go there again. Hopefully next time the food will be a little more warmed up.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
