Martha’s Ethnic Bed & Breakfast

Martha's is awesome. Three "Ethnic" rooms, two that share a bath and one that has a private bath. Rooms are large enough, and cozy. Martha had some chocolate chip cookies and milk waiting for us when we arrived late because of Chicago traffic. She chatted with us as we ate the cookies, and then made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was great. We had a bowl of fresh fruit, then a Quiche that she had bought at a bakery in Madison. She said she usually bakes her own, but was in the bakery the day before so she bought this one. It was good, but the crust was a bit burned. All-in-all it was great. The best think was that a few days after we got home she wrote to us to apologize for the burned crust on the Quiche. We'll be back.

Lunch was very good. I had an open face roast beef sandwich with mash potatoes. Coconut creme pie for dessert. Very friendly staff.
Very family friendly and fun stop on your way to somewhere else. Definitely a diner but accommodating and had several vegetarian options. The service has been absolutely awesome- kind and friendly, good sense of humor, and they catered to the little ones. The 4 stars are because the options are LIMITED out here, not because of spectacular food. We definitely enjoyed what we ate but it was not particularly creative or from scratch cooking but lots of choices and like I said- they have been very accommodating. Good service and very affordable prices make up for the average food. They keep this place nice and clean and it feels welcoming- not to mention right next door to a good place to fill up the gas tank. *Just a word of caution- order the "small" or half plate when you can- the portions are absolutely out of control on many items like the biscuits and gravy or hot plates. Way too much food for a normal appetite but enough if you want to share.
There aren't a lot of options in this area for an off the road, not-fast-food meal. Initially I was skeptical about this place -- generally, restaurants with giant fiberglass anythings out front aren't drawing people based on food quality -- but I was pleasantly surprised. The interior was immaculately clean. Two U-shaped bars with stools are front and center, and two dining rooms extend off to the left and right. We were greeted warmly and sincerely when we walked in, and they mentioned we just missed breakfast. We almost left because of that but decided to glance at the menu first. The waitress identified breakfast-y items on the menu that are served all day and that's what we went with. My brother and I split a large order of biscuits and gravy, which are served all day. At just under 10 bucks I expected a lot, and even then I wasn't disappointed. This is a massive portion of sausage gravy over two biscuits; it was easily enough for four people. The gravy was very dark and about 50% sausage. This could be split between 4 people if you were sharing other items; there's also a smaller portion available. We also split a "Denver sandwich", which was a Denver omelet cooked and placed between 2 slices of toast. We had ours on rye and added some cheese. It was really good and a total surprise to both of us. For a little over three bucks, it's a great deal. I'd definitely order it again. The coffee was excellent and super-fresh, and the service outstanding. I would recommend this place to any traveller in the area.

Great place to grab dinner and a few drinks. When we stepped in we were greeted by the hostess and given a table right away. My dad and I both ordered a 3 piece fish fry with fries. We also ordered an order of breaded mushrooms and we each had a bowl of clam chowder. The soup and mushrooms were pretty standard, however the soup was rather underseasoned. The fish fry was very good and was more than we could eat. You'll need to ask for exta tartar sauce right off the bat. All in all, not a bad place to eat. I just wish they wouldn't have gotten rid of their salad bar.

The Haystack Supper Club

I don't approve of the name, but I do approve of the food. A rural location like this rarely enjoys a restaurant of this caliber, and it's the only non-fast food here in the Westfield-Montello area. It's a little drive off the highway, and they only are open for supper (it's a supper club!) which is probably the only way they stay in business in this low-flow area. Driving by for the first time and seeing the name "Haystack" filled me with images of stacks of allergy-ridden grass and cows chewing cud. After overcoming that unpleasant mental image and heading out to the Haystack for supper, they pleasantly removed that unfavorable impression. Service was really friendly (it was a inclusive small-town atmosphere, it made me miss small town life!). I was not terribly impressed with the food, but the prices were okay and the atmosphere was rustic and pleasant. Here's the thing: if you want more than a burger and you're in the area for supper, the Haystack is the place! I wouldn't go out of my way for a supper here, but it sure is a nice addition to the area.
The quality has really fallen here. I ordered the fish fry with hash browns and sauteed mushrooms. The mushrooms were cooked in burnt butter and I believe the hash browns were cooked in the same pan. They were both completely inedible. The fish was okay, but we left still hungry. Never asked how our meal was... Also they don't take credit.
This is the best supperclub ever! Staff is friendly and the portions are excellent!
