If you're a local, you already know about this place. If you're visiting MKE and staying downtown without a car, you're out of luck. If, however, you have afternoon business in NW MKE or Wauwatosa, and have a car ...go try this place out. It's awesome. I had the gyro platter, a monster pile of meat on a great pita with onions/lettuce/tomato, etc and rice and a squirt bottle of tzatziki sauce under $9. The meat had a great flavor, maybe a bit salty but gyro meat is salty.. waddyagonna do? S.U. had a cup of their soup and a spanakopita. Perfect! Next time, I'll try the jerk chicken that everyone is raving about but, I was very happy with my choice. The place is small but on this frozen winter Sunday at lunchtime, we were seated when we arrived.Great stuff! Thanks Cosmos for a great lunch1

Great food, can't go wrong the standard gyro but my go to is the chicken gyro. Quick, friendly service.

I've eaten here about five or six times in a three year span. I really enjoyed the beet and feta cheese salad I had today. (See the picture). A pal had a hamburger on a potato bun. (See the picture). The burger was huge and was obviously homemade and at least a half pound. He said it was outstanding. This is a walkup counter configuration where you first order and pay for your food. You then take a seat and they serve you. Its a small establishment, but there's patio sitting outside during the summer. In past visits, I've had several Greek items including but not limited to falafel, hummus and spanakopita. Its the real deal. The owner is always behind the counter cooking/preparing meals and the servers are usually family members.

Can't believe I haven't tried this place until now...considering that this joint is a few blocks from my place and I've been in MKE for almost a year. This is the first greek place where I actually ordered something that wasn't a gyro, falafel, or kabob... The winner was definitely the jerk chicken pita sandwich interestingly enough...the two foods aren't even from the same continent! But nonetheless...the seasoning and grill on the chicken was muy delicioso. The sauce topping the pita sandwich...some spicy mayo/cream sauce was on point! Just the perfect amount of zing. They don't skimp on the filling/meat of the pita here. Extra plus: friendly service and extra crispy fries!

Gyro Hash. Gyro meat, hashbrowns, fresh tomatoes, fresh feta, scrambled eggs = Bliss

I landed in this tiny, obscure spot quite by accident recently. A colleague and I had intended to go to the North Avenue Grill at my request, but it was Friday, it was just after noon, and the line was out the door. So I would say, even if the Cosmos Cafe was there to receive the run-off business of North Avenue Grill, they might have a good thing going. My friend and I perused the menu and both landed on Greek options - he a gyro platter and I the chicken platter. Both came with grilled pita, lettuce, tomato and rice (or fries, had we opted for that.) We were also offered a tomato/pepper sauce that we took on the side and I could not reconcile what it was or how it fit with our meal but it was ok, too. The food was decent, though I've had better chicken shish kabob sandwiches at a couple other places in this town. The ambiance was simple, small and quiet. As it turned out, we bumped into someone we knew and laughed that it would be almost impossible to ensure a private conversation in a place so small. The two-person show, presumably the owners, were friendly and part of the charm. It's good to try something new, even if quite by accident. I'll be sure to give them another try for some of their other unexpected menu items, like the Jerk Chicken or perhaps a Shrimp Po Boy.

Was slightly disappointed with my sandwich after the praised heaped by fellow Yelpers. I tried the Jerk Chicken pita based on other reviews - my only complaint would be that my sandwich had significantly less filling/meat than the gyros of my tablemates. It was fine for lunch, but if I were getting that for dinner, I'd be disappointed. Others have talked of massive helpings, so I'll assume mine was a one-off for now. And the pita was stuffed with more lettuce than anything else, which isn't my favorite. The gyros looked good and everyone else seemed happy. The fries were as advertised and I was glad we decided to add them to our meal. We'll head back here again to give it another shot, but for me, it was just a so-so experience the first time around.

Moved right in the area not long ago from Chicago and was hoping to find a gyro place, due to me having a really severe addiction to them. My landlord told me about cosmos so I gave it a shot and I was not disappointed. Probably the friendliest people I've ever experienced at any gyro place and the food is excellent. The falafel is super excellent too. My fiancee usually does the supreme chicken pita and has loved it every time. Definitely recommend

Jerk Chicken is so great and the family that runs the place could not be nicer.

Just ate there while I was in town for business. Great food. Would definitely recommend it

Their gyros. So good. And the fries, man. I could cry just thinking about how good the food is here. And it's so affordable, I'd go here everyday if I lived in Tosa. Also, like everyone said, the people are super friendly.

I visited Cosmos Cafe at the recommendations of Brian M. and Joanna T. and Cosmos Cafe did not disappoint. I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and noticed that they also served breakfast. I might have to go back and try it some day. That day, I wanted a gyro. I don't consider myself a gyro expert. In fact I'm pretty easy to please. I want tasty gyro meat, a fair price, grilled pita bread and enough gyro meat that I have to eat it with a fork before it is even feasible to pick up the gyro and eat it. Cosmos Cafe succeeded in each of those categories. My gyro was delicious and filling. At $5.50 it was also a great value. You can also upgrade your gyro to supreme with lettuce and feta cheese, but onions and tomato with a side of Tzatziki sauce is all I need to be happy with my gyro. The staff is very friendly. It is family run and popular. A few customers that came in were greeted by the name. That kind of repeat business can only mean good things. The decor and atmosphere at Cosmos Cafe reminded me of a blend of a small town diner with a deep woods lodge. I do plan to go back to discover more Greek goodness that Cosmos has to offer.

My girlfriend and I went here after reading the yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. We had the jerk chicken sandwich, the gyro pita and the Greek fries and all were fantastic. The folks running the place are nice as can be and the service was super quick!

    (5)
  • Michael M.

Family owned and super friendly. Good prices. Spanakopita was more spinachy than most are used to but I thought it was good. Jerk chicken is fantastic, sweet and only slightly spicy, and goes on a salad or a sandwich or by itself. We'll be back.

Jerk chicken pita was really good. Service was prompt and friendly. Awesome location. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in Greek cuisine.

I've been here a half dozen times and have never been disappointed. It's a small, family-run joint that serves excellent food at great prices. Everyone is really nice and it's definitely got that homey neighborhood vibe to it. If it's your first time going, get the Jerk Chicken Pita. Don't even question it. Just do it. Their gyros are great and are generously topped and their falafel is crunchy on the outside and not dry at all on the inside. And put tzatziki on everything, it's delicious.

  • Leigh A.

Love Gyros and locally owned businesses, so Cosmos is a win-win. Everything I have had there is delicious. I usually order the jerk chicken pita. So well flavored with tender, juicy chicken. The chicken or gyro supreme is another winner. Be sure to order the greek fries (lemon, feta and spices). Prices are reasonable. The entire family works together to run Cosmos. The dining area is pretty small, maybe seats about 20. So go early or carry out. Highly recommend!

Wow, this four-five block drag of North Ave is home to several of my favorite spots in town (Ono, Rocket Baby's and Cranky Al's), and Cosmos is one of them. The food represents an excellent value. You get a ton of it, and it's all delicious! Most of the time, I opt for the Mediterranean salad topped with gyro meat. The salad is enough to feed two people or one hungry savage like myself. I also sometimes order the avgolemono soup whenever available. Everything's homemade, which is rare these days with Greek restaurants. Sure, the food's great, but it's the people that really make Cosmos. The restaurant's run by a super nice family. Rain or shine, I'm always guaranteed a smile and friendly service whenever I drop by.

Cheap, quaint, local, friendly, delicious. This place is fantastic if you're in the mood to get something to eat quickly with no fuss. The guy working the counter chatted with us like we were regulars. I had the Jerk Chicken Gyro, and I highly highly recommend it. I was wary of it, since it's not a Jamaican joint, but other Yelp reviews steered me in that direction. No Regrets! We will most definitely be back.

  • Jordan R.

My first time to Cosmo's I came in to an empty restaurant and asked the man behind the register what he recommended. He confidently said "the jerk chicken", so, I went for it. This little chicken pita beauty did not disappoint. The jerk chicken was a really nice mix of spice, savor and freshness. The meat portions were generous and filling, complimented by the bed of fresh veggies in the bottom of the pita. I loved every bite and will be coming back for more.

Jen W. must not know how to order because my wife and I had two great lunches at Cosmos. We were there slightly after lunch on a Thursday and we started with a hummas plate and tabooli, then ordered the Falafel and a Gyro sandwiches for our meals. The place was staffed by two. Daughter (owner) and father (cook.) They helped us pick what to eat and then we talked a bit about recipes and then we enjoyed he heck out of our two really well made sandwiches. This ain't Chicago or Minneapolis, so finding a decent Falafel is not all that simple. Cosmos Cafe does is well in a small, warm setting. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Tosa gem! Good food and great service!! The salads are amazing just as all of the daily lunch specials. In the short amount of time between ordering, eating and walking out the door you'll have already become family. You'll be hard pressed not to get to know the owners by name and be exchanging more than the typical lunchtime pleasantries as this place is so much like having lunch at a friends place. Definitely a great place to add some variety to your lunchtime repertoire.

Great little Greek spot right in the heart of Tosa and the bubbling up-and-coming area on North Ave. Cosmos is tucked back and you might miss it if you aren't paying attention. Nestled in an unassuming little shop, this place is the real deal. The guys in back were hollering back and forth which orders were up and what was next, I heard "SPANIKOPITA" yelled a few times, and I tried Slouvaki for the first time. They described it being more "brandy" flavored than I thought it was, but for anyone with a salt-tooth over a sweet-tooth, this sodium laced cheese slice is the app for you. Their gyros are stuffed with high quality meats, and served traditionally with tomatoes and onions - a bottle of tzatziki on the side. The pita is thick and warm, and the tomatoes are crisp and cold. Lots of families were coming in and taking food to-go, thinking I might follow their lead and make this my new go-to greek spot.

The last time we did the work lunch here one coworker went against the grain and had a burger. Everyone loved there lunch but I have not seen the burger guy so I searched him out to ask him how the burger was, it looked like nothing special to me. He said it was amazing and would get it again and he did today. Well I'm going to be the judge of there burger and try one. I ordered the bacon cheese burger cooked rare, see my pictures. It was bacon, 2 slices of cheese, pickle, onion, lettuce on a bun. It didn't look like anything special and thought he must be out of his mind. I took the first bite and something was wrong because that nothing special burger was blowing my mind. As I chewed I thought that it was seasoned very well and I'm not talking salt and pepper but with something I couldn't figure out. As I kept eating and enjoying the burger I could not figure out what the seasoning was. This burger was amazing and my co worker was spot on. It was cooked perfect by the way. A third co worker did the bacon cheese burger and said it was very good and liked the seasoning but could not tell what it was either. Now I'm completely curious and I called the nice woman who always takes our to go order and got all five correct. I asked her if the burgers have a secret seasoning and she asked if I liked it and I said it was amazing, she said I'm glad you liked it. She confessed that that there is a secret seasoning that one of the brothers makes but could not tell me what it is. I guess I will never know what it is but it was an amazing burger. The woman who takes the order has an amazing memory and always gets the large order correct. I asked if she took credit card and she says I know what your doing, you pay with plastic and keep the work cash for the weekend like always. I mentioned that long ago and she remembers, we stop by maybe every 6 to 8 weeks and she remembers me and my turning her into a cash station. This is such a gem of a place.

This place confused me, I stopped in late-morning thinking it was a breakfast place since on the sign outside, the two "O" letters in the word "Cosmos" are made to look like sunny-side up eggs. No breakfast menu exists here. That was kind of misleading. No big deal, I am having a pita and fries for breakfast I guess. I've been here twice and got the Jerk Chicken Pita and the Falafel Pita. The jerk chicken pita was really good, the meat was tender and juicy and the fries are crispy. I wasn't too crazy about the falafel here though, I found it to be dry and bland. I would definitely get something else next time. I really appreciate the freshness of the ingredients, the tomatoes especially were firm, juicy and fresh both times. Not all soggy and shitty like they tend to be at many other places. The people who work there are really, really nice and service is very good. Overall, very good fast-food with friendly service. I think Cosmos Cafe beats the shit out of Oakland Gyros.

For Greek food in Wisconsin, outside of a church festival, this is a great spot. And I'm going to be a brat and say that I'm Greek so this is one of those times where I get to throw my weight around for this review. The gyros are absolutely delicious and the tzatziki sauce tasted like my grandma used to make. I wasn't a huge fan of the rice pilaf that came with the sandwich, but that's ok. The saganaki was also fantastic, again, just like I'm used to. I can't believe I can get Greek food so close to my house, so I couldn't be happier.

This is a rating on service. Wanted to go to the Hawaiian restaurant next door, but the restaurant part was closed due to construction. I decided to get a coffee at the "cafe" next door. The woman talked to me as if I were a little child as I asked about their choices for iced coffee. Which they only have ONE. She was looking at, and joking with, the other customers as I tried to order. Really off-putting. It was then that I decided to leave. :(

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!!!! Go eat here, they ve got the MEAT, LOL. their gyro is second to none, their jerk chicken sandwich is out of this world, and great hummus as well. I took my in laws here last week, they wany to give it another shot. This is my go to place for gyro in Milwaukee.

  • K L.

I thought this place was absolutely delicious. The food was very fresh and tasty. Probably the best gyro I've ever had; very good quality meat. The lady who may be an owner, who took our order, was very friendly and appreciated her service. I liked the area that it's in also, it has a cute outside patio.

Delicious beet salad and spanikopita ... friendly owners and staff ... will definitely come here again when visiting Milwaukee!

  • Kate O.

Some of the best Greek food we've come across. Family of 3 got tabouli and hummus, and 3 of the gyros supreme (could have gotten 2 - HUGE PORTIONS!) as well as a beet salad. The tabouli and hummus was some of the best we've ever had. Everything was extremely fresh! Beet salad was more of an entree size than an appetizer. The cashier was extremely helpful in ordering and explaining what things were! Very friendly as well. Wished the ice tea and all the drinks weren't just from cans, but in relation to the rest of the experience this was minor. For a glimpse at the atmosphere, you order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Over all, great experience and we would definitely come back!

  • Tim S.

The staff was very friendly and courteous during my previous visit. They have a pretty solid menu, full of different options. The Greek fries and jerk chicken were exquisitely delicious! I will definitely go back some time.

What a nice surprise. Looking for a good burger place with the family. Yummy gyros and falafel on the menu would be a definite bonus! Bullseye with Cosmos Cafe and reasonably priced too! Very friendly, helpful and patient staff with our large order for five new diners with the expected hemming and hawing. Really nice selection of items - all fresh and homemade. My wife had the gyros supreme and it was supreme. Best she's had, she said. Cheeseburgers are something special, too. I think this is the way a cheeseburger should be done and it may have ruined me for all the other cheeseburger places. Great fries. Did I mention modest prices and nice people. Relaxed family friendly atmosphere too.

Cosmos Café is great. I tried a veggie pita with not the highest hopes because my default is skepticism with items like this. They can easily be "throw-away vegetarian dishes." Not so here! The pita was filled with good greens, nice tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, feta, a tasty tahini sauce as well as another herb-y oil sauce. And the pita itself was wonderfully soft and warm. It was pretty heavenly. The first time I was there, I spied the Greek fries on the menu and knew I needed to come back to try those with a buddy. I wrangled my husband for lunch to share them (and I got my veggie pita again) and they did not disappoint. Perfect fries, they don't skimp on the feta, and the lemon gave it a nice, bright flavor and magically did not sogg-ify the fries! When it's warm, they have a nice patio area available with umbrellas over the tables. The inside is small and cute and easy to grab a table during lunch.

Cosmos is the best! Their burgers are delicious, gyros are great, and the Greek fries are to die for! The staff is always kind, happy, and portray excellent customer service! My husband and I often walk here for lunch or carry out for dinner! Highly recommended!

Cosmos Cafe is easily one of my favorite local Tosa joints. My boyfriend and I recently moved to the area, and are within walking distance...very dangerous. We just discovered this gem and have already been there way too many times than I am comfortable admitting on the Internet. I was convinced the Falafel Pita could not be beat until last night. We were picking up take-out and they were sadly out of my beloved falafel. I am not a meat-eater so the woman recommended ordering the Veggie Burger. I have had my fair share of Boca burgers disguised as restaurant-quality veg burgers so I was a little hesitant, but this was one of the BEST homemade veggie burgers I have ever had - right down to the bun. We even considered calling to thank her for her recommendation! My boyfriend swears the Gyro is the best he's had as well. They are massive. The few fries he's been willing to spare me have also been great. All members of the staff have been friendly and accommodating every time we've gone, and the cafe itself has a really cool, casual atmosphere. Nothing beats a good Greek family vibe! Thank you Cosmos for being so wonderful and delicious and just existing in general! See you soon.

Delicious Greek food - check Adorable family run restaurant - check Smiling and helpful staff - check I love this place. I've been here a few times. It's always the same two guys behind the counter and in the kitchen. They are brothers and I assume the sons of the owners. They are friendly and sweet twenty something's. I have eaten several things and enjoyed them all. The falafel is my boyfriends go to. I have tried the shrimp pita, gyro, and pork special. The Greek fries are great if you love feta, which I do. Go there and do it soon.

If you need to buy a gyro in Milwaukee, you buy it from these guys. Great family service and quality food. The Jerk Chicken Pita is pretty good too if you want something slightly healthier. Actually order a gyro and a Jerk Chicken Pita. Don't forget about the Pork Souvlaki either. Anyway, this is a great friendly place with quality food.

My family went here this weekend when we needed brunch ASAP, and had to seat a table of 7. You can tell that this place is a family affair, and the service was very personalized and friendly. Small menu, great food. This is the kind of restaurant that MKEers should support instead of standing outside of Blue's Egg for 4 hours waiting to sit in a strip mall.

We tried this place for dinner. They close quite early at 8, but the locals around here like it as a lunch place. The space is quite small with about 10-15 tables. There were 3 teenage boys running the place. I can only assume they are family because they generally have a good work ethic and are really relaxed about working there. Since we came in at about 7:50pm on a Friday night, we were expecting them to get ready to close up shop ASAP (we've all seen it happen where people are anxious to leave work... I think we all are!) That was not evident.. They seem to enjoy working there. We had a to go order of the infamous Greek fries, a supreme gyro, and of course the jerk chicken pita. Waited about 5-10 minutes. Pretty quick! Greek fries were delicious! They managed to stay crispy in the styrofoam box on the way home. Seasonings are good with feta, lemon juice, and spices. It's a fantastic way to fancy up and make French fries "Greek". The supreme gyro is supposed to be the regular gyro with feta and lettuce. I have never gotten a gyro here before so I am unsure of how they look / how much meat they contain, but this supreme gyro had a TON of meat. Way more than the jerk chicken! They separated the taziki sauce and put it on the outside of all of the containers. I can only assume it was for my non saucy, slightly dry gyro meat. My gripe about this is that there was only one container for a huge gyro...! The supreme, in turn, was much less saucy than the jerk chicken. Next time, I will ask for two sauces to go! Hubby really liked the taste of the jerk chicken, was just disappointed in the quantity... He just wanted more! I personally didn't really care for the taste. I like my gyros with well.. Gyro meat. I did see $3.50 wine on the wall. The best deal on done in wine I've seen before! Once my waistline recovers from the gigantic portion of gyro meat, I will definitely return!

I ate their jerk chicken. It was excellent. The dressing they gave with the jerk chicken was superb! This is a small mom and pop restaurant. I am not particularly a fan of greek food but I went there because of the reviews here. I think it was the owner's wife, who is taking the orders (self serve) and she was extremely friendly. Take note liberals - this is what private enterprise is - yes, she and her husband did build that business (remember Obama saying "you didn't build that business - someone else did").. You can see the commitment of the couple to take care of their customers and their business. Vegetables in salad had no wilting and seemed fairly fresh - tomatoes were not that tasty (fresh but hard) but rest were fine. Chicken seemed fresh and not premade yesterday. This is not exactly a place to take your date. The place is clean but very spartan. I have not tried their other dishes.. She gave me a list of their salads - it didn't sound particularly exciting to me.. but after eating with their salad dressing.. I would probably go back to try something else there..

Fantastic establishment for lunch. Visited Cosmos serveral times, tried different versions of the mediterrean salad - my favorite is the tenderloin topped meditterrean salad. So Delicious and tender! The greek fries are also fantastic. Highly recommend! The burgers look so good, but haven't tried them yet! Prices are not bad - steak salad and soda for under $10.

Great local Greek spot on north avenue Hidden in this small little building on the south side of the street. Local place owned by family. Get the Greek salad and add chicken. Usually place order to go since it's small location but solid to switch up types of food in the week. Plus nothing is healthy then a nice Greek feta chicken salad. Eat smart.

I know there is more to try, but the gyros are top notch. Very flavorful, but not greasy. Small, family place with counter order, and an ability for take out or eat in., Also a small patio. Give it a try, is good. Try to rice with tomatoes - better than the fries.

The jerk chicken is my JAAAAAAAAAAM! When I first went into this place I told the woman at the counter (who I believe was the Owner) that I was new in town. She welcomed me to the neighborhood and then went over the entire menu and asked if I had any questions for her on anything. Very helpful and super friendly. I ordered the Jerk chicken with a side of the greek fries and they did not disappoint. The portions are huge and I probably could have gotten away with just the chicken but the fries were totally worth it. Everything is made fresh to order and I waited maybe 10 minutes for my take out. I will definately be back. OPA!

I was looking for a good falafel pita in Milwaukee. I found it. Not as good as the street vendors in NYC, but pretty close. There... there's my review. Short and simple. Go here. You won't be disappointed.

Great value and good solid food. What makes this place stand out from the rest is the service. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and helpful. I can't remember what I purchased but I remember it being solid. Nothing really stood out but it was good nonetheless.

  • Jeff K.

If you ever want to go for sheer quantity, this is the place to go. The food wasn't too shabby either. But I still can't get over how big the portions were. I like lots of food. Anyway, the people were super friendly and gave some recommendations on the food. Thought the Greek fries were really tasty and a good appetizer to the meal. I liked the Gyro Supreme, but thought the Jerk Chicken was a little too saucy for my taste. Maybe I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to gyros. Would definitely come back here if I were hungry and in the mood for huge slices of gyro meat.

  • Amanda L.

This place is awesome! Went there yesterday with a big group and I think everyone was stoked about it. The lady at the counter was a sweetheart and very accommodating. I got the Mezze Combo which is basically a sampler of pita and hummus, kalamata olives, huge chunks of feta, falafel, and spanakopita. I adored the hummus and pita! So good. The spanakopita had a weird flavor that I wasn't used to. I always order the spanakopita at Greek places and I'm really not sure what I was tasting there. The falafel wasn't my favorite either, it was a little dry for my taste...but drowning it in tzatziki helped a lot. :) My group also had the Gyro Supreme and regular Gyro and LOVED them both! I tried a bit of the meat and oh man it was good. I regret not getting one now ha. One of the kids in our group got a cheeseburger and from the looks of it and his comments....I think that's the way to go here. It looked absolutely amazing. and HUGE. The Patty Melt is another one that I would highly recommend. So incredibly good and cheesy. The bread was delicious! Best Part: Baklava. Oh...yeah. This was amazing. So gooey and wet. (Who likes dry baklava????) I wanted like...5 more. We also were given this powdered sugar/almond cookies to go. Awesome!!! Go here!!

Cosmos Cafe was a great discovery for us. It is a small, low-key restaurant tucked away from North Avenue that we passed almost every single day. Then, our Greek friend recommended that we try it, so we figured, if a Greek person is recommending it, it must be good... Turns out, she was right! It was delicious, reasonably priced, and the kind of place that you could go to for comfort food, or to try something new. They serve both in-house (very casual and appropriate for those with kids) and do carry-out. When I think of take-out, I normally expect greasy, unhealthy foods, but my falafel sandwich was fresh, not overly fried, and delicious. My boyfriend rates the gyro he ate as one of his favorite meals since arriving into Milwaukee. Cosmos Cafe is a must-try.

This place is run by the nicest Grecian family. The restaurant is a bit small, with a few outdoor tables, I have rarely ever witnessed people eating in the restaurant. Mostly we go here for take out. The food is very delicious, exactly what you want in a neighborhood Greek place with big fat gyros and cool cucumber sauce. Falafels are delicious and crunchy on the outside. My favorite has got be their Greek roast chicken with a lemony herb sauce that is so wonderful, but they don't have this everyday so call ahead and ask!

Got burgers and fries to-go this evening. Best burgers in town! Big, juicy, and flavorful! The gyros.and Greek chicken dinners were also awesome!

Every time I go here I have the best service available, it's fun and personable, I feel like a friend of the family rather than just a customer. The food is downright phenomenal. I've never had anything but amazing fresh food that tastes like nothing else. The only minor gripe, is it is a smaller venue, so there's not terribly much for seating, which is frankly... unnecessary! The small seating doesn't detract from the over-all homemade experience and feel of the cafe experience. A must-stop for anyone in the area, visiting or resident.

PRE: I found Cosmos Cafe on a Friday Fish Fry website. We arrived at around 6:30 P.M. and found a street parking spot easily. The small cafe has a menu written on chalk and an open kitchen. It doesn't scream "Greek" until you start reading the menu. My dining partener and I ordered and grabbed a patio seat outside. ORDERED: Mezze Combo - $8.00 (hummus, spanakopita, falafel, pita, feta and olives) Fish Fry - $9.50 (three pieces of fish, baked potato, Greek salad) Dang! Milwaukee-brewed Root Beer TASTE: The Mezze combo is a steal at $8.00. My dining partner and I shared the appetizer or more like FOUGHT for the appetizer. Their hummus, spanakopita and falafel are top notch! I believe the feta was cows' milk instead of the traditional (and more expensive) sheep's version. *Caution the olives contain pits. My fish fry started with a Greek salad containing spring greens, feta, olive oil and lemon-based dressing and healthy dose of freshly cracked pepper. The fish fry arrived with three golden pieces of small-ish sized portions of fish and an aluminium foil wrapped spud. WOW! The breading was so thin and crispy it's as if it's painted on. Cosmos is generous with the condiments too. Two ounce plastic containers of tartar and sour cream are plenty but oddly no butter for the potato. POST: A GOOD VALUE and it's good to support a local business. The entire family must pitch in at Cosmos as we were served by a pre-teen girl. Instead of "can I speak to your manager?" it's "can I speak to your mommy?" She was better than some adult servers around town. I'd so hang a framed photo of Cosmo Kramer on the wall of this place.

I am shamed that it took a groupon to get me in here since it's 2 blocks away from home. My gold standard for gyros is Oakland Gyros and Cosmos is just as good. A big portion, not greasy, nicely garlicky and served with a big bottle of sauce - perfect! The husband had a jerk chicken pita which he was very happy with, not too spicy, just very flavorful. Hummus tasted homemade and was very yummy. Everything is made to order, so be prepared to wait a few minutes. It will be worth it. This place is everything I like: good, cheap, family owned and casual.

Tiny little place, hidden gem, amazing food! I was told by co-workers who live in the area that Cosmo's was a MUST, and I must agree. I had the jerk chicken pita and it was totally awesome. I also got a Dang! soda (local!) and that was good too. Seriously though, the jerk chicken pita has been added to my top 10 list. Amazingness!

My wife and I were looking for a good gyro in our area. Cosmos Cafe was not too far away and the previous reviews looked good, so we called in a take out order. We ordered 2 gyros and 2 orders of fries. They were ready when we wen to pick them up and smelled wonderful! The short car ride home was almost too long to wait. We were not disappointed when we got home to eat them. The gyros were fantastic and the fries were still crispy, which I've found to be rare. We will definitely be back!

First of all, the place is small. So, especially on Friday, you may want to consider carry out. If you do stay, the service is amazing. You order up at the counter. The beverage selection is not particularly varied but there is the basic soda, juice, water and beer. As for the menu. Wow. They are very amicable to change things up too. I did not want fries with my Gyro, so they made up a side of fruit for me. Have you ever ordered a Gyro without enough sauce? Well they give you a whole bottle to sit down with. The mood is very relaxed and the food in sensational. I have had the gyro omelette there as well. The fresh tomatos and feta which were added, created an amazing feel to the whole dish. My fiance had the fish and his only complaint was that he wanted more than three pieces.

The best baked fish around. The family that owns the restaurant is also always very friendly. Greek fries are also a favorite.

Really nice, friendly people working here. Was really hungry for some good falafel and unfortunately did not find it here. More closely resembled a hockey puck in texture. Nice flavor but it was not light and fluffy on the inside as I prefer it. The sauce to dip it in (some sort of tahini???) was absolutely horrible and unpalatable ! On the plus side, and there are actually more positive than negatives here, the spanakopita, beet salad, hummus, gyro sandwich and Greek Fries were all wonderful!!!

This place is a little cramped, and a little loud, and I was uncomfortable because I sat at a booth right underneath a vent with hot air blowing on me. But none of that mattered because of their Jerk Chicken Pita. Soo good. Easily one of the best thing I've eaten in the 1.5 years I've been in Milwaukee. I can't even describe the flavors. It was just really really good. Go there and try it!

Great spot in east Tosa for real Greek food prepared fresh to order. They use the very best and freshest ingredients and are happy to cook up pretty much whatever you want. For instance, a family wanted breakfast at 4:00pm on Saturday; no problem. One dish I did not try looked just terrific. It's an appetizer combo plate with spanakopita, hummus, pita bread, falafel and feta olives. My ground lamb pita was delicious and unique. Want to go back for their Friday fish fry soon. They feature a kid's menu with home-made chicken tenders made from real chicken, not the over-processed stuff found elsewhere. Cosmos is not a fancy place with fancy prices. It's a small family-operated cafe that serves up good food at reasonable prices. What's not to like about that?

I love this place. I love the family. I love the food. Helen, the wife/owner, is hilarious and always so happy to talk to you. The kids that also help out with the restaurant are great as well. Also, the food is great. This is one of the places I go to often in Tosa. The jerk chicken pita is fabulous. I love how they put a ton of sauce in it. The hummus is good. The Greek fries are delicious. They serve it with feta and some lemon juice. I always order the fries. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a decent meal while supporting a local business in the community.

We went in last night and had a really great experience. Brought our three kids, and ordered the hummus app, grilled cheese/fries, a supreme gyro and a regular gyro. Everything was delicious, and the portions made it a great deal for our pocketbooks! One of the owners took our order and chatted with us the entire time, and helped keep our kids entertained. I guess I'd prefer they had more than one booster seat and one highchair because we have three kids. But other than that I wouldn't change anything about it. We had lots of leftovers today and they tasted just as yummy. Looking forward to trying it out again soon and tasting some other menu items! EDITED TO ADD: I just visited again, probably a month after my initial review. When I walked in tonight, the same woman looked at me and said hi, then asked how my kids are doing. That's AMAZING that she remembered me and was kind enough to ask about me! Good gyro to boot.

I hate to do it, but have to downgrade Cosmo's from 4 to 3 stars. My original review from last year mentioned the lack of attention to detail, and unfortunately they still haven't figured this out. It's actually become worse. During my last 5-6 orders from Cosmo's I can't say I was completely pleased with any of them. The food, especially the gyros, is still fantastic, but the service still leaves a lot to be desired. It goes without question that something will be missing and/or messed up with my takeout orders, whether it's missing salad dressing or tzatziki sauce or skimping on salad toppings. It's at the point where I expect it and have to check my food before I leave to make sure nothing is amiss. It's annoying and reflects very poorly on the staff and the restaurant itself. The food itself is still delicious - don't get me wrong - but I find myself ordering takeout maybe once a month instead of 2-3 times a month as I used to simply because of what I see as the absence of, to put it simply, real care about consistent attention to detail. Great food can only carry a small restaurant like this so far. If a reputation of spotty consistency and service grows (and I see it mentioned in a few other reviews), business is going to go downhill. And that would be a shame, because a good, locally-owned restaurant like this is an asset to East Tosa.

Excellent Greek food for any lunch or dinner. Their gyros are the best but other selections are also wonderful. They are so patient and kind to our young children. Also call on the way home from work to order and swing by to pick up. Cosmos saved the day again!

My wife and I were another of the Groupon people who tried Cosmos Cafe. We went for a weekday lunch and were able to get the last table. Cosmos Cafe only has a handful of tables and you order at the counter and then they bring your order out to you. We needed to use the value of our Groupon so we started with the Saganaki (flaming Greek cheese). It was fabulous and there was plenty of it. I'm constantly searching for the ultimate gyro and the gyro at Cosmos Cafe takes over the lead after this visit. The meat was tremendously flavorful. It also isn't just soft...they must grill it a little bit to give the outside a touch of crunch. The pita is also grilled and they give you a large squeeze bottle of tzatziki sauce. I was in heaven. The tomatoes and onions on the gyro were fresh and added to the taste of the gyro. Cosmos Cafe is priced right and has tremendous food. There is a small parking lot but we ended up parking on the residential street next to the cafe. I will definitely go back and make sure the gyro can still hold it's top spot in my taste tour of Milwaukee and Madison gyros.

Great gyro: piled high with a big bottle of yogart sauce at hand. I recommend the Greek fries if you like feta. My wife and I really enjoyed the hostess/owner. Super friendly and curtious.

Small mom and pop shop that is cozy and has around 6 tables and 2 bar seats. The mom has a lot of personality and is pretty funny without trying to be. :) So far I've tried the chicken pita, gyro, seasoned fries, and hummus plate. The chicken pita has large charred pieces of chicken breast that I really enjoy. The gyro is GINORMOUS, the meat spills out as you try to eat it. I love dining in at Cosmos because they give you a large bottle of cucumber sauce to apply as generous as you want. mmmmMMMMM! The hummus comes with warm toasted pita with a few sprinkles of paprika on top and a drizzle of olive oil. ONE OF MY FAVS!! The seasoned fries have some blue cheese chunks scattered throughout. I didn't appreciate it that much more than I would regular fries. Everything I've had has been very tasty and Cosmos has become a true staple in my household. Plus it always feels nice to know that you are supporting a small family business :D

Best salad... Mediterranean Salad -- I usually add grilled chicken. Always super fresh and so rich in flavor. (Olives have pits.) Most restaurants in this area ... even very expensive places... have such boring and blah salads. This one is not only delicious, but also is as filling as a 3-course meal. I love this so much, I get it every time. Comes with fresh bread. My kids usually get gyros, Greek fries, and hummus, and say all of it is fabulous. The food is hot and fast even though it is nothing like 'fast food.' The prices are very reasonable. The staff is neighbor-friendly and seem genuinely concerned that patrons love the food. My family sure does!

If you have not been here it is a must! They are extremely friendly and make it a great place to eat. On top of that the food is to die for! The gyro supreme is my go to along with the greek fries... Both of them are something you have to try.

Ah Cosmos... where for have you been all my life?? I too am one of the neighborhood "Groupon Dorks" and I too am ashamed that I have driven past here countless of times over the past year and half and have barely noticed it. Well, let me tell you that this has most certainly changed. I don't think its appropriate to crown a new "King of Gyros" after only sampling just one, so now that I have sampled about 8 of them, I think it is appropriate. I love the way that they finish off the gyro meat on the flat top. It adds a nice little crust to it without drying it out. Also, their tzatzki is an ethereal blend of cucumber and garlic awesomeness. Having said all of that, Gyros are not my first choice at Cosmos. If I ever kill someone in a Capital punishment state, I will ask for 6 Jerk Chicken sandwiches as my last meal. Seriously. Maybe ask for a side of fries if I manage to finish all six sandwiches. I'm sure t there are many other equally awesome items on this menu (the people next to us were raving about their moussaka), but I'll never know. Its like passing on a stadium brat at Miller Park in lieu of a Chorizo. I too afraid that I'll regret the decision. We've recommended this place to friends in the neighborhood and have made several converts. I don't know what special king of crack they put in the food her, but keep it coming!

Cozy, warm, friendly, attentive - just the way a Mom 'n Pop establishment should be. Their Gyro sandwich is the best I've had in a long time. Instead of just slicing the meat off the spit they take the extra time to make it crispy on the griddle. For breakfast try their Gyro Hash - a heartwarming melange of gyro meat, feta cheese, onions, and bell peppers. Yum!

Fantastic, affordable Greek food. There are some good Greek places in Milwaukee but this is easily the best. The sampler is amazing and very generously portioned. Gyros are simply perfect and the accompanying yogurt sauce seriously delicious.

This was my second time to Cosmos. The place was packed, and everyone was happily munching on their homestyle greek cuisine. I had a lovely conversation with customers and the owner while I waited for my chicken pita, falafel pita, and greek fries. All of the take out was speedy, tasty, and affordable at under $13.

  • Marie C.

We live in the neighborhood and have enjoyed everything we've ordered. The food is delicious and the staff (family) is nice and welcoming also. The only problem that I have with Cosmos is that they never get the take-out orders right. On three separate occasions, they did not include the sauce for the gyros. Last night we ordered their wonderful yogurt with walnuts and honey. When we got home - no walnuts and maple syrup instead of honey. Either eat in or go through all your bags of food when you take out to make sure it is correct (although this is a bother if you ordered a lot of food). Still, this little annoyance will not stop me from eating the best gyros in town!

Long ago my husband and I made the conscious decision to support local restaurants and avoid chains whenever possible. Today was an excellent reminder why. We had purchased a Groupon to Cosmos and it was due to expire next week. We ducked in here for a quick lunch and really enjoyed ourselves. Husband had a huge gyro and I had the souvlaki. The people that own this place are so kind and attentive, they greeted regulars and new customers both like old friends. Oh, and the food was incredible and so reasonably priced. And we even got to sample one of their desserts- free of charge! As trite as it sounds, we left with full stomachs and warm hearts. Good stuff!

Wanted to try this place after purchasing a Groupon a few weeks ago. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me for good service, good portions, and good prices. The restaurant is very cramped and small, so it is probably better as take out. My bf and I both ordered gyros, an order of Greek Fries (seasoned fries with Feta Cheese) and Baklava- the meat on the gyros was piled high and fresh (definitely worth the $5.00) and the fries were crisp to perfection. We had so much food between the gyros and fries that we saved the Baklava for later- good for a mid afternoon snack, but not the best I've ever had. All in all, will go back again when I'm craving Greek on the go.

Came in here last weekend with some friends, it was great! I tried the Jerk chicken pita like so many have had on here, and we also ordered the hummus. It was awesome! Cheap, staff is friendly, good greek food, what more can you ask for. I'm definitely going to try the gyro next time!

We have gotten take out here a couple of times and it has been delicious every time. The french fries are some of the best I have ever had. And the Jerk Chicken Pita is delicious, too.

Something's fishy at the Cosmos Cafe and it's delicious! The fish fry has such mild white and flaky filets and a nice lighter breading. It's refreshing that it comes with a salad, either fries or a baked potato and really good bread. Fridays are crazy busy there so we get carry out. The gyros are yummy, too! It's great to eat there as well but it's small - really small. Terrific service though!

Have been here several times and the food was always great, The burgers are amazing. Just had a standard cheeseburger, but it was perfectly cooked, with good quality real cheddar, and a great bun that was grilled. I like Mazos but this burger was even better. Way better than a cheeseburger from 5 guys where you can only get process cheese on it. The fries are very good also, as are the breakfasts. I hope to try some of the more interesting things on the menu when I go back.

Really love the food and the people are very warm. This is a place I should eat more often. Chicken pitas are good, and gyros are as well. My only complaint is we ate there once late in the day, and the food quality suffered. All in all, a great Tosa dive.
