This place was over priced. Bad service.waiter was rude and unfriendly. Never gave us back our credit card. For six tacos an a quesadilla it cost us 48.00. We would NEVER eat here again!

W have been going to La Fuente for years. We used to go to to the one on south 6th way back before it grew. We since moved to the Waukesha area and were surprised when we found the Waukesha location. We enjoy all of the food there my favorites are the chimichangas or the plate lunch my wife's are the combo plates. The margaritas are the best around!! Go there and enjoy a great dinner

Great experience for us. Split two orders of fajitas for our family of 6. They refilled the chips and water right away and gave us tons of tortillas. We will be back

It is good Mexican food. But not as nice as the one downtown. Great place to get authentic food. However the staff needs to get the order down right. I would double check the order when you order

The service was pretty good- we went at 4 on a Friday, so not busy at all. The food was great and the portions large. It's a alot pricier than other Mexican restaurants that serve awesome food in large portions, but I enjoyed my meal. My only complaint was that the chairs were very uncomfortable. We had a group of 8 and had to sit at a table. If I had gone in with a smaller group and sat in a booth - I probably would have given it 5 starts.

We used to eat here regularly at least once a month. The last time we ate here, Sunday Sept 6 for dinner, we were seated in the back area. We waited 10 MINUTES before the main waiter (who's area we were seated in was not his responsibility) noticed and came over. The caucasian girl who was supposed to wait on us looked at my wife TWICE during that 10 minute wait and never came over. Only after the main waiter took our drink order did she come over. Too late...we already are working with the other waiter. If you can, avoid the area where this caucasian waitress works..very lazy, very slow. So we ate our dinner...food is the same as always...just OK. 2:00AM rolls around and my oldest daughter is throwing up...followed by my 5 year daughter...followed by my wife...and then finally me!! We got food poisoning from this place that lasted all through the night into the morning. Never again, La Fuentes...bad service + food poisoning = no service from us, ever.

Dirty tables , under staffed , long wait for drinks, long wait for aps. The place was empty , the beans where wet. My wife was sick for days after eating at the place. Do yourself favor and go anyplace else. Buyer beware!!!!

This place is revolting! Why do people come here... Spoiled food served to us and they were totally clueless... Awful. We left immediately! Nothing can excuse or explain the poor kitchen behavior that allows bad food to exist much less leave the kitchen!

I have had Mexican food many times often on the South side of MKE. The food and service was great. Generally chareso is greasy but I had a chimmychaga with chareso and I was amazed how grease free it was. It had great flavor with no pool of grease. Your waiter was attentive and spent time explaining how they prepare it.

There is no drive-thru Basically the same fare as the other locations. I read somewhere that all food is prepped on 5th Street. I've tried their pork tostadas and they are acceptable. The chips and salsa are good as are their drinks. I've driven past many wanting drive thru tacos but unlike the steak and shake that was here's before, you have to dine-in.

We were shopping for a car at the Carmax next door and realized we were famished. So, with the choice of getting in the car and looking for somewhere to eat or walking next door to La Fuente for a quick meal, we chose the latter. This place is a good example of the value of Yelp. I was hesitant to walk in the door after reading some of the less-than-glowing reviews, but, as mentioned, I was really hungry and did not want to start trekking around Waukesha looking for another place. The other Yelper's reviews really hit the nail on the head and I really have nothing add'l to add to their reviews except to say that I totally agree with them.

Not sure why they don't have more 5 stars... My favorite restaurant! Sure, their original location on National has a way better venue.. but their food is awesome, I may never go to another Mexican restaurant again!

We moved from Milwaukee about a year ago and frequently went to La Fuente on Bluemound. Now we go to the Waukesha location, still great. Had dinner out on the patio Saturday night, fish tacos were yummy, and the patio was so enjoyable. If only La Fuente and La Estacion would combine into one inside of a BW3's I would be in heaven.

If I was rating on chips and salsa alone, 4.5 but overall there is still something left to be desired. I'm leaving full, and the fried ice cream was delish. Something about the refill part of our service wasn't what others have mentioned - slower. My glass sat full for longer than usual. Came around 1:15 pm not busy but only on server for all the tables. I'd eat here again if I was in the area but I'm not jumping to come back just yet. Give the place a try for yourself. It's not as bad as everyone might say.

After having visited the downtown and Wauwatosa locations we decided to give the Waukesha one a try. The Good: The chips & salsa are just as good. Chips come out warm and salsa has good flavor without being overwhelming spicy - a good level for the average eater. The food comes out hot and quick - rarely do you wait long for your meal. My boyfriend had a three item combination platter of enchilada, chimichanga and taco. I tried all three and they were what you'd expect and tasted great. Service is quick, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is nice. Decorated by not overwhelming. We were there around 7:00 on a Saturday and there was no wait for a table. Wasn't terribly crowded. The Bad: I decided to stray from my usual order and give the fajitas a try. They have two options of steak - sirloin or skirt. I can't speak for the skirt option but I'd have to guess anything is better than the sirloin. The consistency was suspect, the flavor was just off and it left me eating a dinner of peppers and onions. Unfortunately for us, the closest location seems to leave me lacking. Guess I'll stick to the downtown location or Tosa in a pinch.

I have been to the La Fuente on Bluemound several times so when we were in Waukesha and saw the smaller version, we had to check it out. Restaurant is nice, not as elaborate as the bigger ones. Menu has a good selection but scaled down. I guess it's more the fast food version. They are located in the old Stead n Shake building next to Target. At this location, the service is lacking. We have been here about 4 times and the best service I had so far was when I came in for drinks at the bar and didn't order a meal. I have had a new waiter who didn't know anything about the menu and another waiter who made us sit for 15 minutes before he even came to take our drink order because he was too busy trying to work it with the female waitresses. This is the same guy who wanted his money and tip early because he was clocking out but then sat around for an hour afterwards. WOW! Yeah, I can't really speak highly of the wait staff other than some are friendly and some are really good but that is only from me observing them with other people, not my experience. If you like La Fuente's food and drinks, this is a good place to stop by to grab a bite or a margarita but if you want to impress friends or family, take them to one of the regular locations instead.

Very good food, friendly service and a clean establishment. The food arrived quickly and was prepared exactly as I wanted done. Just don't let your quality slide like the Wauwatosa location.

I honestly am very disappointed about La Fuente. I legitimately feel like I could have gotten better quality "mexican" food at Taco Bell. The meal started with traditional mezxican fare, chips and salsa. Honestly, thr salsa was the best part of the meal. The 3 beef corn tortilla tacos were very bland and tasted like the meat was not seasoned at all. The tortillas fell apart at an alarming rate, while the rice and refried beans were just as disappointing. The service barely lived up to the "Average" mark. How this place has managed to stay in business for so many years, let alone open 2 other locations will remain a mystery to me.

We to had very high hopes for this location. Service was good / but felt very rushed. Sorry to say I would agree with the other review and litterlly stated as we walked out we should have gone to Taco bell. Food was bland and over cooked and honestly terrible. 2 orders of Fajitas one order of 4 tortillas..hmmm.. Guess will go low carb. Margerhita was actually fizzy?? That was a first. Highly NOT recommend - save yourself the pain and hit the bell drive thru and liquor store for some julio. I honestly hope they step it up on the food - this place was known as a downtown Milwaukee leader in the past and was rooting for it in the "burbs". $90 bucks later I think its ok to expect some quality.

One star is actually too much. The other warnings about terrible service are exactly correct. I actually went here after reading those other reviews thinking that I should just give it a shot. Terrible idea. The only thing good was the margarita. Slow service and nonexistent. I finished my water after sitting down and no one came by to fill it up. It seems maybe the waitresses are responsible? We saw one of the waitresses filling water glasses but she was only filing her table's water glasses. No teamwork. Then I noticed dirty tables left and right buy a hostess and bus boy sitting at the front door hanging out, one of them on their cell phone. My wife got the tostadas and couldn't eat them. You couldn't cut them with a fork or knife. Super chewy, like they were old stale tostada shells. You couldn't pick them up either because they were too floppy. We didn't say anything because we were just over it, but when the waitress notices my wife barely touched the tostadas we shared why. I guess she went to the manager to share what we said. She then came back to our table and said they were like that because we order the chicken tostadas. Not the shrimp or plain ones which presumably wouldn't have been chewy and impossible to eat? I mean, what was the point of telling us that? That is ridiculous and makes no sense. Oh, and we ordered a quesadilla ad an appetizer and she forgot to bring it until out dinner came out. I actually contacted Fuentes corporate that evening with their contact us form. It's been a few days now so I assume I won't hear anything back. Even if I do, I wouldn't want anyone else to have to suffer through eating there. Go over a mile and eat at Jose's Blue Sombrero. That place is phenomenal.

The margaritas are excellent but once your food arrives you'll wish you had gotten drunk first. Taco Bell offers a more authentic menu than this place. I've been going to the original location downtown for years and am very disappointed in this place. I ordered a chimichanga which should be a pretty standard order. What I received was a luke warm gooey tortilla wrapped around some dried chunks of pot roast smothered in greasy chedder cheese. I've seen higher quality food with better presentation at Qwik Trip. A place claiming to offer authentic Mexican cooking should spend more time training their chefs. At least make sure they aren't colored blind and are capable of adding the correct color cheese to menu items. Make a run to the border and avoid this place.

La Fuente is fairly new, replacing the Steak-N-Shake that built the location originally. This was our first visit to La Fuente. Before we went I was wondering how they had renovated the restaurant to get rid of the original "50's Diner" style, and I have to say they did a pretty good job. Inside it is bright, colorful, and comfortable, with the only remaining hint that it was previously a fast food joint being the location and the too-large windows that give stunning views of Target and Menards. So the ambience gets about three stars, but the service and food more than made up for it. To start, we were greeted by a generous basket of very crispy chips with an average tomoato-based salsa. As usual I asked if they had any salsa that was hotter, and I was not disappointed when they brought a very nice deep red/orange diablo sauce that made my cheeks bright red and my nose run. It was great. For our meals we got the special of the day, "Wet Burritos", one chicken, one beef, and they were both excellent, covered with melted cheese and a green sauce. Sides included a small salad and sour cream. Overall, it was a pleasant surprise, I would consider it one of the top two Mexican restaurants in the Waukesha area. Nice Job! We'll be back.

Food was cold on a non-busy Sat. afternoon. Service was unfriendly and the atmosphere was the opposite of "fun." It's too bad, but we are not going back. For a simple lunch with cold food, our bill was outrageously expensive.

(Note: I was here about a month earlier than the date of my post.) Tasty food. Service SUCKED. Been to both the downtown and Bluemound locations which are MUCH better. I hope the management figures this out before too late. La Estacion is closer to home but it's nice to have options.

Only one star because I didn't get food poisoning. If i could give zero stars I would. I never write reviews unless deserved. Services is horribly slow. Have to ask to have service. Wrong orders are automatic. Want water? I'm sorry because you have a better chance of getting water from the hose outside. At the point you just want to leave you can't because they will take 40 min to bring a check that is wrong and 10 more min to charge your card. Don't waste your time or money!

I've passed this restaurant many times since it replaced Steak 'n Shake at its location but hadn't taken the opportunity to try it, today I did. I arrived about 11.30 and the parking lot was empty. I wasn't sure it was open despite the signs in the window. I decided to check it out and indeed it was open and I was quickly seated. It wasn't long before the restaurant filled with the lunch crowd and I felt more confident in my choice. The lunch menu had combination plates at $8.95 and deluxe combinations at $9.95. I opted for the latter and ordered the steak fajitas plate which came with either chicken noodle or tortilla soup. The usual chips and sauce preceded the entree. The sauce was mildly spicy and the chips crisp but both were pre-prepared, that is to say from packages and/or bottles or cans. I ordered a glass of sangria with my meal. It turned out to be a small glass and clearly poured rather than prepared. It was mediocre and far too little for the $5 it costs. The tortilla soup was good. It was garnished with sliced and diced avocados together with a little sour cream; however, it was under seasoned and its temperature tepid--a little too cool. The entree consisted of two steak fajitas and the usual rice and refried beans. It was accompanied by 2 oz. cups of shredded cheese and sour cream. The fajitas were tasty and dressed with sliced red peppers and grilled onions---it would have been nice if they had been drained before serving as the liquid soaked the tortillas and made the eating pretty messy. The beans and rice were unremarkable and both lacked seasoning. The restaurant was clean and the service so-so...my water glass was never refilled and if I had wanted something more, I would have had to flag down my waiter. To conclude, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant--too expensive for the mediocre quality and minimal service.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
