My husband & I had eaten here on a Tuesday night. We were seated right away & sat inside.I ordered the Crab Cake Dinner for $17.95 and my husband ordered the Tequila Shrimp Dinner for $12.95.The salads came out with ribbon cut lettuce, not crispy at all. When we received our meals I was VERY disappointed at the size, first of all our dinners were served on a child size plate & for a relaxed atmosphere style restaurant complete with Hawaiian style shirts I expected to at least get my money's worth with the meal, definitely NOT the case here.My crab cakes were quite small to say the least and the sweet potato fries i choose as my side were a fingerful portion at best. My husband got 10 shrimp in his dinner & had small cocktail style shrimp. We are both fit & active people but come on a child size portion?? Not only that but our server kept calling me Wendy, excuse me?? So here we are still hungry & very dissatisfied Please do not eat here you will leave still hungry and feel ripped off. I have to go and get my husband a second dinner now.......

The best gluten free seafood dishes I have ever had.

Stopped in for breakfast while visiting the Farmer's market. Located on the Fox River. The menu is not published for breakfast, but most options the waitress recited included the word "slider". I opted for the lobster Benedict. It arrived in a small dish with chunks of rubbery lobster atop two very runny poached eggs and soft soggy English muffins. The hollandaise was very sour. My dining partner had the same and could not eat her dish. When we explained how bad it was, the manager asked "have you ever had a Benedict before?" not exactly the response we expected. To top off the lackluster meal, the price for the inedible dish: $13.00. To add insult to injury, I had terrible G.I. Issues upon departure. I should of known better than to try lobster in Waukesha, but as today is slated to be the end of the world, I wish I had chosen a better final meal. One star.

Looking at the other reviews, it would appear that KW has made a deliberate effort to improve itself, say over the last year or so. Glad to see that. We went there for a late lunch, and were the only diners there at the time. My companion started with an order of "firecracker shrimp," that is, french fried, and with a nice dipping sauce. I began with a shrimp cocktail. It was served with the shrimp hooked over the edge of a martini glass, with the dipping sauce in the middle--cute! A few more shrimp would have been nice, however the sauce was great: a classic shrimp sauce, and they didn't spare the horseradish. (For me that's a plus.) Main course for my companion was a lobster roll, with a side of potato salad. The report was that both were highly acceptable. I had "crab cake sliders" with (extra cost) sweet potato fries. A crab cake slider is a crab cake on a small whole wheat roll. At first bite I thought the bread flavor was overwhelming, but after 2 more bites my opinion was that the flavor was nicely balanced, with crab flavor being dominant. The sweet potato fries were also very tasty, accompanied by a nice dipping sauce. Everything was well prepared and well presented. As the only customers at the time, we had much attention from our waitress and from the manager of KW. For a lunch, I found the price a little high, but then, we were eating "higher off the hog," so to speak, than one would normally do for a lunch. So. Value for money, I'd say we did OK.

This is my favorite downtown restaurant. The crab cake sliders are excellent. All crab, no filler, browned and served on a pretzel roll. Yum! The service is always great here.

I really wanted to like this place. I like the location, the name and the decor. We came down here one afternoon on the weekend while walking along the river walk. They had outdoor seating which we thought was great. After viewing the menu we realized everything on it was seafood and kind of pricey, which is fine, just not what we were looking for at the time. We decided to just order a drink and some appetizers and move along. I ordered a piña colada which was really quite good and different. But after that we didn't see our waitress for a while and the whole restaurant had about six patrons so I don't know what she was doing. Finally she came and took our order for the appetizers. We waited about 20 more minutes and were almost about to just put money down for my drink and leave and just then, the waitress stopped at our table to tell us that the cook must have not heard her tell him our order before so he just started making it now. Seriously?! There were hardly any other customers in the restaurant to lose our order and "he didn't hear you?" What kind of ordering system do you have here? We got our crab cakes (finally) and they were average I guess. Tasted about as good as something I could bake from the frozen section at the grocery store. The piña colada is good and maybe their other food is too but I'll never know because I won't return. The service here needs some help. This meal should not have taken us an hour for a drink and some mediocre overpriced crab cakes.

We chose this place because they had outdoor seating. That's where the good stopped. The menu itself was not very exciting and less so when the food arrived. It was clearly frozen (not fresh) and was just warmed....judging by how long we waited for food, it was warmed by a heat lamp. They didn't appear too busy, but we waited over an hour for food. On a good note though, our waitress was really nice. For her sake, I hope she finds a job elsewhere where they have good food.

Great gluten free options! Had the gluten free fish fry and it was very good. Even had key lime pie which was also GF! I will be back!

Every time we come here we enjoy it. This visit was different. It went from a huge disappointment back to a fan and here is why. And for gluten-free people, scroll down after this to read what can be expected for celiac disease customers. We sat outside after going to the Farmer's Market. It was a very warm day and enjoyed getting a table outside. We placed our order and after 40 minutes of waiting for our order, I asked our server (Nikki) was there a problem with the order? Her response was it was very busy and the our order was placed in the order it was received. I explained I noticed 3 tables that sat after us and they all had their foods. Response, "it is very busy". Now 50 minutes passes and we finally get our food. In the mean time, not once did our server ask if we wanted another drink (very hot day....beer and water is consumed!). I get my order and the Crab Cake sliders had cole slaw when I ordered potato salad. I overheard her say to the table next to us that sat after us and got their order that they ran out of potato salad. So I guess it was just okay to replace it without asking the customer what they preferred! I noticed the manager (maybe the owner) was walking by. I wanted to ask her if it really was that busy because the inside dining room only had 2 tables occupied. I explained what had happened and she apologized and asked if she could get us another round of drinks or desert. I told her no, that we were not trying to get anything free, just the service and response was not what we had experienced in the past and that we really enjoy the food here. She apologized again and asked that we would come back and give them another chance. Nikki, our server then comes back and says the bill was taken care of. Nikki never apologized or acknowledged any of our problems. The point is, the service may be bad and I was looking forward to revising my review to reflect this but unless you ask and talk to the right person, you may not get it resolved. So, I am still a fan despite the poor service but the management worked immediately to resolve and to get us to come back and we will be back now! Thanks to the management for changing our experience but there was no need to comp the entire bill! The crab cake sliders are my favorite it has lime crab with key lime aioli on a pretzel roll. The owner's daughter has celiac disease and is highly sensitive to gluten. There menu has almost every item that can be prepared gluten free. The kitchen has a separate fryer and truly prepares the dishes to eliminate cross contamination. So far, very few restaurants that truly can accommodate celiac disease customers. The clam chowder had clams in every spoonful and nice creamy base. Very good. I am sure we will be back to try other items on the menu as my wife is celiac.

Tried the burger & beer for $10. The patty reminded me of something you'd get at McDonald's. It was thin and in no way cooked to order. As soon as it hit the pan it was well done. I did enjoy the Wisconsin Brewing Co.'s amber on draft. The small key lime pie wedge was good. Tried their Saturday morning breakfast. Wife enjoyed her scallop egg benedict, but my guest and I were very disappointed in the breakfast sliders. They were about as big as a fifty cent piece and appeared to be a frozen product. I'd like this place to make it. Great location. Fun concept. Very poor product and execution overall. :-(

We were in town visiting family and I was pretty excited to find a GF fish fry. I was assured by the server that it was cooked in a separate fryer from gluten containing items. She seemed confident that she had dealt with this on numerous occasions so I made the mistake of trusting her instead of questioning every item and ingredient on my plate. I am still sick 2 days later and my vacation has essentially been ruined. There is no way that meal was gluten free, if you are sensitive to gluten I would not recommend this restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive to our party of 8.

Food was pretty decent.A bit disappointed with decor..needs brighter Carribbean colored decor and island music..maybe a bit more reggae and a bit less Buffet.

This place is great! The shrimp and lobster was amazing! I would defiantly go there again. The blue cheese dressing was out standing and the HOMEMADE key lime pie was the topping to a great dinner! Fun atmosphere, very much like key west!

Second visit there; the first was prompted by a special offer which was honored by the owner and waitress. Another offer brought us back a 2d time; however, the offer was NOT honored. Loyalty cards are given out with 3 offers, one of which is a 1/2 price second entree. In order of appearance on their card, it is the 3rd. It was NOT honored because they said we had to select the others first. NOTHING on the card indicates that it's the owner's choice of what you get. This fact was admitted by the owner's wife, who was very unfriendly, spoke to us rudely, and gave us some mean looks. Certainly not a welcoming atmosphere. If they're trying to build loyalty, they failed miserably with tonight's performance. WE WON'T BE BACK!! Fortunately, there are many good restaurants that will appreciate our frequent dining out.

This is a fantastic place for Gluten Free and Non Gluten free seafood. I happen to LOVE their chicken sandwich. Their shrimp fry is fantastic and yes Gluten Free! Desserts, yes Gluten Free! Really fun to come to all year round.

Fish fry on Fridays is great! The food is fresh and high quality. The prices are a bit higher, but if you want to get excellent seafood in Waukesha, I recommend this place. The shrimp appetizer served in the martini glass shows the effort put into presentation. Not to mention they have breakfast during the Farmer's Market in Waukesha - added bonus. Lobster rolls on the lunch menu come on a perfectly crispy roll and are filled with tender lobster meat and not filler! And they have great bartenders mixing up decadent tropical drinks to keep you thinking beach in our cold winters.

We just love this place. Good menu, fun atmosphere, and so many gluten free option that are fried, even cheese bread. It's awesome. This is primarily a seafood place. The server we had Nikki was great. Most knowledgeable and put all our GF concerns to rest quickly. The food was well prepared. We both had tthe GF Saturday shrimp fry and couldn't finish it. It was really good. Gluten free or not I think this place is great. The owners seem to always be there and they care.

I see Key Westconsin filling a niche as very affordable and welcoming seafood joint in The WC aka Waukesha County. First impressions: The coy name made me chuckle. I had a copy of the menu and was pleased to see it didn't go all "Cheesecake Factory" or "Greek Family Restaurant" on us and offer way too much. I honestly got giddy, because I love dinning at places that don't have a gigantic freezer full of bags of Sysco/Dharma initiative mozzarella sticks. The dinning room is made up like beach-front bar and the staff all wear bright tropical tops. Also cool, the majority of the menu can be made GF. Props. Our server was friendly and was always checking in appropriately. My dinning partner and I did not sample any tropical beverages, but placed an order for the Clam Chowder to start. This is where we hit our first speed bump. The clam chowder didn't shy away from the clams (good) but it arrived lukewarm and the cream was lumpy (not good). Not horrible, but it would have been beaten in a tete a tete by the chowder at the VFW hall in Brookfield. Turn up the heat on the warming table and use a different base (or make it from scratch) - that's at least another star! The salad course came and went. Before long...our entrees arrived. It so quick, I thought maybe it was another tables order! Wow! We sampled the Tropical Shrimp and the Key West Scallops. shrimp - I enjoyed the marinade (ceviche like), but someone should let the cooks know that you can so easily overlook the shrimp - lay off on the high heat. Also, a very healthy serving - appropriate for the cost of the entree! Nice! Scallops - were satisfying and prepared right. The Key Lime Hollandaise sauce is divine! Bacon always improves things, But the baby potato pancakes just didn't do it for me. The fat of fried tater patties are overwhelm the other (fantastic) delicate favors. The foodie in me is thinking a SLAM DUNK would be a bed of hominy grits or polenta. Overall, we had a very pleasant evening and experience. We plan to return!!!! On last nitpick - no dealbreaker -once this place gets up and running, I hope the management considers swapping out the white dishes and economy cutlery. I think it would enhance the presentation *Epically* which in turns enhances taste.

I heard about Key Westconsin's excellent gluten free menu and decided it was a must-visit... and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant has a great location along the river in Waukesha. It totally embraces its theme, with beach scenes and lighthouses painted on the walls, and the bar is designed to look like a tiki bar. There are also some patio tables available out front of the restaurant. Fun! The menu continues the theme with its focus on seafood - many dishes featuring crab, lobster, shrimp, scallops, and fish, including a Friday Fish Fry and a Saturday Shrimp Fry. There are a few other dishes with beef or chicken. There are a variety of side dishes, and most combos allow you to select your own from items like potato salad, cole slaw, veggie blend, baked potatoes or french fries. Nearly everything on the menu can be prepared gluten free - the servers are well trained and knowledgeable on what can be done. We popped in for lunch. My husband got the Philly Cheesesteak with fries, and thought it was good. I opted for the gluten free Crab Cake Sliders with fries... one of the things I've been missing are crab cakes, and these hit the spot perfectly. They came out on a gluten free baguette that had a nice flavor, and the crab cakes themselves were well prepared... nicely golden on each side, with a lot of crab. Delicious! I was very pleased with my selection. I wish I could have tried some more dishes, but I couldn't eat another bite after my crab cake sliders, so I must wait for next time!

I've been there numerous times. The Friday fish fry offers an excellent baked fish. I have dietary restraints, so asked for Veggies instead of cole slaw, and they were well prepared. I love the potato pancakes (baby cakes) served with applesauce. Yum! The whitefish is also great. Atmosphere is a little loud due to hardwood floors & high ceilings. Decor is Key West style. Summertime sidewalk seating is nice. Full bar. Owners are there and constantly looking to improve. Let them know how you like it. We love it! Glad to have a fish menu restaurant in our downtown. 2/18/2012 We have been the for the surf n turf recently. I am not a usual fan of steak or lobster, but I thought I'd try it. I was blown away! There was a salad that was extremely fresh. The mango vinaigrette dressing was prepared fresh by hand in the restaurant, I understand. It was so tasty that I wanted to ask for seconds. The steak was a succulent filet mignon cooked to perfection. I like mine with just a hint of redness and asked for it medium well and that is exactly how I got it! The lobster was a small 4 oz but was equally as prepared. The drawn butter was hot and the sides were excellent. I love the potato baby cakes with applesauce. We will be going there more often, I suspect!

Found this place while googling gluten free options for a weekend road trip from Chicago to Milwaukee. I am glad we ended up checking it out - I can't remember the last time I had fried shrimp... it was definitely a fun, tasty treat.

I decided to walk down to the Farmer's Market and have a wander about. I have never been to this area before... mostly because it has been winter since I moved here. I saw this place and thought it would be nice to have breakfast. Miss having breakfast with friends, so it was a way to treat myself. There was a table outside, but you have to check in with the hostess. Fortunately that was a very quick process and I got to enjoy watching people wander through the Farmer's Market... and admire the dogs! The Breakfast Menu isn't extensive, but they do offer some nice options. The waitress brought me a glass of water straightaway and she was great... I would give her five stars! The coffee was also really good... didn't taste burnt (this is a sticking point with me because many places just let their coffee sit and sit and consequently burn...). On the menu were Creme Brulee French Toast, Breakfast Sliders (choices of meat and cheese), Benedicts with your choice of Shrimp, Crab, and Lobster, Pancakes, Bloody Marys, Mimosas, etc. I was trying to decide between the Creme Brulee French Toast and the Lobster Benedict... about a $10 difference between the two! However, the waitress said that the French Toast was a small portion and the Lobster Benedict would be more substantial. I didn't want something heavy and I LOVE French Toast, so I went with the French Toast and added a couple strips of bacon. There was always someone coming around to make sure your coffee was topped up. I saw sliders and seafood benedicts go by... the sliders looked like they were on croissants and I did hear a lady order sausage and Provolone Cheese on hers. My French Toast came out and it looked delicious... although not similar to French Toast I have seen before. This was made with French Baguette, but only soaked in egg and fried on one side. It was nice and custardy, but I didn't get any of the Grand Marnier they advertised in it. The other side of the bread though was very crunchy and hard. The french toast comes with a Caramel Sauce which is nice, but there isn't much of it... considering you really need some kind of sauce for the part of the bread that isn't dipped in egg and fried. There were three strips of bacon and they were delicious and cooked just right... a bit crispy, a bit chewy. In total... my coffee, french toast, and bacon was less than $10, but I am not sure that I would order the french toast again... it wasn't awful, but only part of it was actually french toast... the rest was stale bread. Breakfast is only served during the Farmer's Market and if you don't want to sit down and have breakfast, they do sell coffee, pop (soda, soft drinks, etc...), and food... not sure if it is always the same, but it looked like a brat or sausage of some kind in a roll.

We past by this establishment every Saturday at the Farmer's Market and there always seems to have pretty good traffic. We decided to give it a try today and sat inside since the patio tables were full at the time. We ordered the Philly Steak and Chicken sandwiches. We are not sophisticated Foodies but these were nothing spectacular. The bread was a little stale, the chicken was dry, and the steak didn't have much flavor at all. We didn't understand why these dishes took 25 minutes to arrive and if that was all there was to the meal. We never saw our waitress again after our food was delivered. Never had our water refilled and only got the attention of one of the other workers when we piled our dishes for them. There were 4-5 workers working the dinning room and there were only 5 tables seated indoors and the patio was emptying out. There were two tables next to us that we're never cleaned off from the time we sat down till we left. The food was tolerable, but the service was not. The lady that brought out check was nice enough, but our experience left us absolutely bewildered. We love dining at locally owned establishments and hope this was just an off day for them. None the less, we were left with a very bad aftertaste.

Went in there tonight and had the worst experience I've had in a local restaurant in the past year. We walked into an almost empty restaurant and it ended up taking over an hour for our entree to arrive at the table. My wife, being vegetarian, ordered only side dishes, so it was only one entree that required preparation. The salad was a little dried out and stale. The appetizer of bacon wrapped water chestnuts was relatively flavorless. Not really sure how they accomplished that. They forgot to bring my soup. When the entree arrived we mentioned this as were asked if we still wanted it! Then I was actually told that the vegetables would be coming shortly because they were "frozen and the kitchen was having trouble cooking them." I'm bewildered by that statement. The entree itself - scallops topped with bacon - was completely without flavor. I think it was served with a Hollandaise sauce, but I couldn't actually tell because, again, there was no flavor to it. There is absolutely NO way we'll be returning to this place. How they can stay in business is beyond me.

Went there after Friday Night Live. The outside seating requires you to check in with the hostess, which we did. Were sat at a table, waited there for 10 minutes until a different hostess came over to inform us that we need to check in... While we should have walked out at that point we stayed and hoped for the best. My companion ordered the whitefish which was overcooked and mushy, I had the scallops which were spongy and flavorless. We complained to the manager he was nice about it and said he would take the dishes off the bill but i still got a strange vibe from him, he also didn't really apologize for the food. I will mention though that the fries and cheesy bread that came with the meal were excellent. The salad was weird, it was like the lettuce was ribboned, just incredibly strange. Anyway, I would not try this place again and recommend you don't either.

Went back and tried a trio of sliders. Lobster, crabcake and beef. All were delish! Great fish chowder as well.
