I ate at Bubba's a few days after they opened. We sat at the bar and were acknowledged right away, but it took several minutes for the bartender to return and get our orders. I was really looking forward to trying the corn bread, but the guy next to me had ordered it, and when he asked for butter he was told they didn't have any. You can't eat cornbread with out butter!! I had the brisket, mac n' cheese and creamed corn. I liked the method of serving the food on butcher paper on a tray, and had no problems with using paper towels instead of napkins. The mac n' cheese was ok, but wasn't anything special. The brisket was tender and had a good flavor. My friend that was with me had the ribs and stated they weren't as tender as he had hoped for. The creamed corn was to die for!! I will go back just for the creamed corn. I was surprised because as we were getting ready to leave, they were telling another customer that they did not have butter for the cornbread. This confused me, butter is not a specialty item! An employee could have run to the store, or even gone to Rinehards to pick up butter for the cornbread, but it didn't seem like they were going to try and remedy it. I will try it again, and I'll try something other than the brisket. I don't think it will be on the top of my list for local restaurants, but I won't avoid it either.

I just stopped by Bubbas while passing through town on business. The sign caught my eye. Let me tell you, this place has GREAT food. I was thoroughly impressed with the flavor, portions, smells... the whole REAL DEAL BBQ experience. Met the owner and family, they couldn't have been nicer. I had the ribs and coleslaw. Just great smokey taste and tenderness. Im excited to come back, I hear good things about the brisket as well.

Absolutely mouth watering. From HOMEMADE sausage to brisket and chicken, along with borracho beans, just excellent! And bonus day Mark Murphy of Green Bay Packers here!

I visited Bubba's on Thursday afternoon. I ordered a brisket sandwich and a soft drink, but did not try any sides this time. The meat was very tender and had a moderate amount of flavor, but in my opinion - as a fan of BBQ brisket - there was too much fat in the meat. The best brisket (Texas, Tennessee, Chicago) is VERY lean. Large tables are available in the main room which was a little disconcerting since I was only one person. The floor was highly waxed and very slippery. No table service is provided. Order at the counter and serve everything to yourself. I found that to be a slow process on a previous visit when a group could not make up their minds and other guests could only stand and wait. No napkins are supplied, just rolls of cheap paper towels. There were big screen TVs and recorded music for entertainment. Not terrible, but I've had better food and experienced better ambiance elsewhere.

very good brisket sandwich on a nice bun--spicey sauce(on the side) highlighted the flavors--good rendition of a hot link too--only side That I tried was a 'hand' pie(pecan) -worth a taste for sure. Full bar and good bbq--just wish that it was an hour or so closer to home!!!

Nice BBQ joint. We got the brisket and pulled pork by the pound. The brisket was the best we've ever had. Tender, moist and just the right amount of smoke...and just the right amount of fat. The pork was also very good and moist. The sauces were pretty darn good. We liked the mild and spicy...which wasn't all that spicy frankly. Our sides included creamed corn. we're used to canned creamed corn so this take on it was different from our perspective. Some likes, some didn't. Baked beans were the best we've had in a while.

I agree with the other reviewers. Bubba's BBQ is the real deal. Just look at the meat slabs he's slicing from and you can tell it's been legitimatley BBQ'd. I started with the brisket sandwhich. Tables set up kind of community style seating, and your eating off of paper on a tray. It all works, it's a welcome addition to Shawano and surrounding territory. It's not cheap food, but it's great food.

Nice little joint, great food. Stopped in Shawano for lunch on the way to Green Bay and chose here because it is a rarity to find real good BBQ. We had the brisket, chicken and a hamburger. All of it was outstanding. The portions were hefty. I recommend a stop here.

I am so happy that a restaurant this good is in Shawano! Delicious pulled pork, awesome sides, great pulled chicken! The only thing that I don't love is the seating. You pretty much have to eat at a table with strangers if it's a busy night. Not a fan of that, so I usually get my good carry out. One other thing, make sure they repeat the order when you get carry out or they will get it wrong 80% of the time. Last time I ordered they just gave us whatever they felt like because it was nothing like what we ordered. Oh, and they run out of food... Seems like a regular thing. Delicious food though, they just need better service.

I had a take out from here a couple weeks ago. I walked in during the middle of the day for lunch.. right around 2pm. People at the bar greeted me right away and directed me to the food ordering side.. so that was nice. I like friendly staff members. I ordered pull pork combo with 2 sides mac n cheese and corn bread. The pork was yummy and nicely flavored.. you actually get your own bbq sauce on the side which is kinda odd. (i think they were 3 different bbq sauces and i picked the spicy and regular kinds). The meat tastes good by itself but dipping it in spicy bbq sauce def gives it a nice kick. I was really disappointed about the sides which is the reason why I'm giving this place a 3 star. Mac n Cheese was pretty liquidity.. no texture and lacking the cheesy flavor. Cornbread was really bland and kind of hard. I might be picky because I had better sides at Brickhouse BBQ in Madison.

Fantastic beef, pork and chicken...and a variety of amazing side dishes...full bar and great friendly service too! Once you try this place, you'll definitely be a regular! Don't forget to get a picture riding the pig!

My husband and I scout out bbq restaurants when we travel. We stopped at Bubba's for lunch. It was very good. My husband had the brisket plate. I had the pulled pork plate and our daughter had the pulled chicken plate. They were all 3 moist and flavorful. The sides of cole slaw, bbq beans, and potato salad were wonderful. I don't recommend the Mac n cheese. I would go there again. It had a great atmosphere, generous portions and good bbq!

I love BBQ but I am a picky eater and I am really picky about my BBQ. I LOVED this place! The exterior is very inviting and has the curb appeal all owners strive to have. It's location is perfect; right on Main Street which gives it that local food feel. The interior is unique. You have the options of bar seating or larger tables on the room to the left. I love the tall bar tables. The hook on the windowsill for my purse was a perk. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in and our order was taken immediately. I feel like everything was pretty self-explanatory but you order at the food counter, pay, get your drinks, and choose a seat. They bring your meal to your table on a tray. The wait time was very short. I am not sure if you can order directly from the bar, but I don't see why not. I got two meats (sliced brisket, and pulled pork), french fries, and coleslaw. It came with slice of bread. Mine was delicious and I thought my portions were large and very filling. The meat was juicy and delicious and the BBQ sauces were yummy. The spicy wasn't very spicy but still had a good taste. My husband thought it was good, but he only got one meat and he didn't seem as pleased in the portions as I was. He thought it would get more for the price. However he said he was very pleased with the flavor and freshness of everything. I asked him if he would like to go back, and he said he would, but he would order 2 meats next time.

Highlights/lowlights 1) great food 2) nice location in downtown Shawano Fun place to grab lunch! The restaurant is "seat yourself and order at the counter" style. We came at lunch time on a Saturday and there were a few tables available right away and plenty of seats at the bar. Menu options include burgers, wings, pulled pork and fried appetizers. You can get an entree with two sides (side options include beans, spicy beans, potato salad etc.) for about $12/$13 and portions are generous! There are three different BBQ sauces at the table (sweet, mild, spicy). Everyone I was with really liked their food! Good spot for lunch in Shawano!

Bubba's is a great place for Downtown Shawano. My favorite is the pulled pork, but other office members like the brisquit. You do have options for the Brisquit to have it lean or not, which is a huge plus. They now have catfish on Fridays! Great addition to the menu. It is a just a great place to take a break from your day at lunch or hang out and watch the game in the evening.

Awesome little restaurant, Shawano scored a huge victory here. I've had Barbecue from all over the place, and have had a hard time finding something in Wisconsin that "brings that fire". Bubba's does not disappoint. The chef and owner (Bubba) is the quintessential BBQ Pit Master, with a big warm friendly attitude and an eye for doing things the right way. Over the course of the last weekend I was up in Shawano I went twice with a group of people and both times were extremely satisfying. I tried just about everything on the menu, and really have a hard time saying anything negative. This might be sacrilegious, but the spare ribs were right up there with the "good good" stuff I've had in Kansas City. The Brisket was mouth watering, and I loved that you could order just about anything as either a sandwich or a platter plate. It's a small thing, but one of my favorite parts about most traditional BBQ places is that they put some white bread on the side for you to dip with, and Bubba's presents this option with their platter. Speaking of sauce, lets talk real Barbecue here. Anyone who's worth their salt knows that REAL Barbecue should taste excellent without any sauce at all. Granted, some options call for marinade depending on what dish you're going for, but most of the traditional stuff doesn't. Bubba's food here is fantastic just on its own, I strongly encourage you to avoid the typical mass American manner of drowning your food in texas pit. Should you decide to plunge it in some sauce, his stuff is good. Not the best sauces I've had, but very delicious regardless. Prices are super reasonable, local residents might balk but I think even most of them are probably willing to concede based on the taste. $7-10 will get you the dish of your choice + a side, and $14-15 will get you a sampler platter. I had samplers both days I went to get the full experience, and went home with that classic BBQ full belly deli. For the sides, make sure to try the creamed corn, that was my favorite of the bunch. My only knocks are the atmosphere and music. I want to hear some classic Blues, old time Rock and Roll, etc up in here! Comon guys get that authentic feel pumping. They need to spruce up the place too with either some decorations or again a more classic look, but they were relatively new when I went so I imagine that will come with time. They do have a long bar and TVs to watch, so once business starts kicking I imagine that could be a fun hangout spot. Oh, and don't forget to saddle the pig on your way out! Really hoping they keep the customers flowing, I need to get back here ASAP on my next visit

Very good. We had the pulled pork sandwiches with sweet BBQ sauce...tasted great! We also had an order of cheese curds that were very good.

This is the real deal and some of the best BBQ I've had since I left Texas. The smoke is perfect. The brisket is moist. Ask for the extra moist, even. And, if Shawano is a bit of a drive...suck it up. It's worth every mile! :)

Yum! Came here after much hype and it definitely lived up to it! Had the burger- yum! We also tried the Mac and cheese and the cream corn! Everything was delicious; huge portions! Closed on Mondays but great lunch specials!

I read the reviews for Bubbas so I felt I had to try it because there are not many good bbq joints in Wisconsin. The sitting area is small but I like the design. You need to walk up to the counter to order which is fine. There is not a lot of bbq on the menu and I wanted to try everything so I ordered a platter that gave me a little of everything. The brisket was the best thing I had which isn't saying a lot. The chicken was flavorless, as was the pulled pork. None of it had any smoke flavor. The ribs lacked any sort of rub flavor or smoke flavor, and were very dry. Seemed like they had been sitting and being heated all day. I loaded them with bbq sauce to make it edible. The mac and cheese was plain and the cornbread was very dry and cold in the middle like they just pulled it out of the freezer and threw it in the microwave. I was disappointed and will not return.

I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem! Who knew Shawano's main drag would have a pretty awesome BBQ place. The last time I had BBQ on par with this I was in Memphis. I like the concept of this place. There is a larger bar but it is separated from the dining area. Good atmosphere for adults and kids. Did I mention there was a wooden pig the kiddos could sit on? The pig and the available table games kept my kids busy while waiting. Orders are placed at the counter and meals range from individual portions, to family style, to by the pound. This would be a fun place to bring a large group and try family style. My family got individual portions because we all wanted to try something different. I got the brisket. OMG! The meat was sliced (I had a choice between sliced or chopped), had a subtle smoky flavor, and was tender enough to have a melt-in-the-mouth quality. I liked that the sauce was at the table (all good) and I could use as much or little as I liked. The meat didn't need sauce, as it was merely a bonus to already perfectly smoked meat. My husband got the ribs and he enjoyed them too. The sides were good, not typical get-it-from-a-distributor kinda' stuff. I had potato salad that was unique enough (and tasty enough) to be homemade. This was all topped off by moist, warm cornbread. Did I say OMG? Well, it really was that good. I plan on a return visit.

Great bbq flavor - didn't need sauce. Pulled Chicken (more like chopped) and pulled pork were excellent. Good portions served and the sides were tasty (mac & cheese, beans, corn bread, and fries). Food is served on kraft paper - when it gets messy with sauce the paper tore and that wasn't good. Reason it's 4 stars instead 5? Gentleman that took our order wasn't friendly and acted like he was annoyed or impatient with us and said a beer was out of stock when it wasn't. We'll try it again though cause the meat was excellent.

I've only been there once and that was days after they opened. The food was really good and am so glad I tried it. I want to go back again and try some of their other yummy food.
