My boyfriend thought that I was kidding and that I was absolutely nuts for trying to find this place. I know that the neighborhood is really rough, but it's not necessarily reflective of the customers who come and eat inside at all! I did follow the advice of the reviews and came during lunchtime hours. I mean we walked in and and the staff was super friendly. Even the girl bussing tables was smiling! Our waiter was super good about reading into us as we had to be some place at 1pm. We had their thin crust pizza and it was UH-mazing! We had the sausage, pepperoni, bacon and green peppers, and it was delicious and by far one of the thinnest thin crust pizzas I've had. One of the owners or managers was walking around talking to some of the regulars and has them sampling some of the new creations here as well. I love that a place like this can withstand the changes in the neighborhood and become a staple - and that people like me can still come to visit. The prices are reasonable and they have contests and specials too!

The food and service are five star--I drive here from Iowa--it's that good. Neighborhood is one star--Have a dieting friend-or Rottweiler- watch over your car in the parking lot if you are there at night.

I've always heard about Wells, but finally only made it there a couple of weeks back. Okay, let's get this out of the way: the neighborhood is sketchy. But there's security in the lot, so no worries at all. And once you're inside, the atmosphere is cozy as can be. Friendly service. And the pizza IS excellent. I wouldn't say it's absolutely the best thin crust pizza I've ever had, but certainly top five. Wells definitely lives up to its reputation.

This was everything the reviews said it would be -- fabulous! We had to wait but the bartenders were very friendly, the drinks were good and it was a charming place. The pizza was excellent and the antipasto salad was great as well. Service was also great! Wouldn't hesitate to go back again when we're in Racine.

My fiancé told me we had to go here while visiting her family in Wisconsin (we are from San Francisco). In two days, we ended up going twice. Yes, it's that good. I can't wait until Christmas...

Wells Brothers has the best Chicago style THIN CRUST in North America (and probably the world). Our family found the place back in the mid '90s when my dad was working with a shop in the area and was brought to the place for lunch (we're from Chicago). Ever since discovering it we have made the drive to Racine at least 40 times just for the pizza. I have to admit that I've never had anything besides the pizza here, but the pizza is amazing. The crust is very light, extraordinarily thin, and has a wonderful cracker like crispness (often it is slightly singed around the edges). The size and density of the toppings are really appropriate; they aren't overwhelming. Further, the cheese/toppings selected by Well Brothers for the pizzas provide for a pizza that is not greasy or oily but rather light (good fat/moisture control). The price of the pizza is such that it is a good value as well. The place is in more of a rough area (the victim of manufacturing moving elsewhere I believe); I think it has gotten better through the years though. Regardless, the pizza is phenomenal. There is only one place in Chicago that I feel has a comparable pizza. And yes, there is such a thing as a Chicago style thin crust.

I heard that this place was rated some of the best pizza in the nation, so naturally being a pizza lover and all I HAD to try it. Now they are closed Sundays and Mondays, big bummer. Their big night is Friday and Saturday and you might have to wait a while but man is it worth it! If you like thin crust this is the place for you! Its too good to describe you just gotta try it! The staff is friendly and the pizza is just delicious! Crummy neighboorhood so be careful ;)

My family has been eating here since the 1950's. They have been in business for that long, and for good reason. That main reason would be their splendid version of thin crust pizza. Absolutely the best for miles around. That means, yes, it tastes better than all the pizzarias in Kenosha, where I lived for many years. The service is usually good. The decor and atmosphere is so-so. But who cares? You come here for the food, food, food! Besides pizza other dishes are very good too. My mother loves their bruschetta.

This place was great! Good food really fast service and friendly staff even though they were swamped. Got the pizza, it was the best I have had in years!

First, make a reservation. We tried to go on a Friday night and was told the wait would be an hour at least. But once I knew there were reservations, I called and got us right in on Saturday night. The key is there is really no place to wait if you just show up and put in your name. So, in summary, make a reservation. The service was excellent. Though it was busy, we were taken good care of. Now, the pizza. It was ok. We had a large thin crust pepperoni pizza, and honestly it was ok. Not great and not terrible. In my mind, there was nothing distinctive about the pizza, but nothing that didn't make me stop eating it, either. I'm not saying I won't go back, but I will not run back. The fact that reservations were necessary and the service was excellent is a great sign for this place. But the pizza was missing magic to bring it all together.

For the first time ever, I can say I was disappointed and dissatisfied with Wells. It pains me to write this review, but I'm just blown away by the fact that I've received this item so subpar when they usually excel otherwise. A simple enough order. Caesar Salad. To-Go. Caesar Salad: Romaine, parmesan cheese, croutons, caesar dressing. Wells has an added grilled chicken, we'll get to that point later. I got my salad and it was missing cheese. Entirely. Absolutely no cheese at all in the salad. I'm not sure if this is usual or if they were just off their game, but that's a huge oversight on one of the simplest and most common options in the restaurant business. Then comes the chicken. While I admire that the chicken was clearly fresh-made, it would behoove a restaurant to not place hot chicken on cold lettuce. I live mere minutes away from the restaurant but by the time it had made its way home, my entire salad was warm, wilted. Coupled with the fact that I have no cheese and the croutons were stale (clearly store-bought), this entire meal was just plain dissatisfactory. I expect more from Wells. They are an institution here in Racine, and I frequent them often with my family on Friday's Fish Fry. I even delay my own birthday celebration so that I can celebrate with Wells, since their yearly vacation always lands on the date. But I've learned my lesson. Don't order the Caesar salad. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling any of the heavier options and was hoping for something light and as delicious as usually offered. I was wrong to assume.

I come from a pizza town, but this thin crust is hard to beat. The surrounding area is a little iffy, but going during the daylight hours helps with that. Cannot wait to try other menu items, but that could be tough with pizza this good! Service was friendly and attentive.

If you are a thin crust pizza enthusiast, Wells Brothers is a must try! I have never heard of any complaints from anyone who has eaten here! Definitely the best thin crust or even pizza in general that I have ever eaten in my life. My only complaint is the drive to get there, also it is in a less than savory area, but these factors don't negate from a delicious one of a kind pizza!!

FACT: Sodas at Wells Brothers are $2 and come with one refill, in effect making sodas $1/ea. FACT: Cans of Hamms beer are NINETY-THREE cents at Wells Brothers. That's all day, everyday. FACT: Beer is literally cheaper than soda at Wells Brothers. That last one is pretty much enough to award a place 5 stars alone....but....pizza. Some of the best thin crust pizza in all the land can be had here (#6 in all the land to be accurate). The crust is perfect - cracker thin, crunchy, yet substantial enough to not get all soggy and gross in the middle. I always avoid the middle for that reason (and because crust pieces are the freakin' best) but every bite here was perfect. As a bonus, Wells Brothers isn't too greasy and their Italian sausage is full of fennel & flavor. Outside? Welp, it's a little sketch (not "that" bad really & there's security after dark). Inside? A delightfully divey vintage tavern with a small dining room, family photos on the walls and 93 years of history. If you're not eating pizza (and you should be, get with the program) they have pastas, sandwiches and like 5-6 homemade soups. Lots of peeps were eating soup so it must be good. They get busy too, so expect to wait a bit even at lunch. Service for us was quick & efficient. Prices? It's not just cheap cans of poor-quality lager here. Pizzas are well priced & they run lots of specials. Come on Tuesday and score a 16" 1-topping pizza, a bucket of 6 beer shorties and an order of garlic bread or fries (?) for just $20. I'm sorry that it took us so long to get to Wells Brothes and I'm even more sorry they aren't closer to home because they blow Zaffiros away. No question. And ninety-three cent cans of Hamms.

Delicious food. Nice environment, good service, excellent food. It's better to have reservations....or expect to wait.

I was looking forward to the Pizza here after reading the rave reviews, but wasn't able to try the Pizza when I got there, because no one mentioned what a scary neighborhood it is located in. There is no way I would park my car around that place and leave it. I didn't even want to stop long enough to look at the place, I kept my windows rolled up and kept driving past it. I have no idea if the food is good or not, but people should know this restaurant is located in a very scary looking neighborhood, with creepy people walking around. You won't be relaxing eating your food, because you will be wondering what is happening to your car as you are eating.

Worth the drive from Milwaukee Worth driving through the ghetto-iest part of the Racine ghetto. Worth parking your expensive Infinity in this neighborhood. Worth taking a day off of work. Worth wearing your "eating pants" to. Worth drinking cheap Hamm's. Worth risking a DWI after blowing a Jackson on $0.93 Hamm's. Worth getting ridiculed by your Milwaukee foodie friends for suggesting that Racine (technically Mount Pleasant) has the best pizza in all of SE Wisconsin. Worth supporting the same family that has run this place since 1921. Worth the wait. Yes, this place is worthy.

Im originally from Chicago and recently moved to Racine. Since then, we've been looking for a great pizza place in town. we've tried a few places, but we now finally found our new go-to place after somebody highly recommended this place to us! Being from Chicago (known for their pizza) and a big foodie, I can honestly say Wells Brothers is one of the top pizza restaurants I've been to in the US. I would say their pizza is St. Louis style - very thin and crispy. And it's phenomenal!! Sauce is slightly sweet, crust is thin and crispy. But in addition to the excellent pizza, the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable, the service was EXTREMELY friendly and the ambience was great (hole in the wall, packed and loud - to some this may be a turn off, but I think it's awesome and genuine). Bottom line: GREAT pizza, pricing, ambience, and service! Again, we found our new pizza joint and we'll be back again! Also, Paula (the owner) and her family were awesome! Genuine, warm and very hospitable owners!

I had been told that this pizza would ruin me in the best way possible. I was thinking to myself, yay! I can't wait to try something so amazing that it will make every other pie I eat seem less then mediocre. I almost didn't want to try it. Why do that to myself, after all? Wells Brothers is over a 1000 miles away from me and I wasn't keen on longing for something so much. All that said, I succumbed and ate multiple pieces. My biggest regret was there wasn't a fridge in our hotel to order another one and eat it cold for breakfast the next day. I am now ruined for pizza! Thanks Wells Brothers. Best crust ever. Thin, crispy and perfect. We had a sausage, mushroom and cheese the sauce was amazing - just the right amount, which isn't too much in my opinion. This place was packed on a Wednesday night and deservedly so. Good service and they were quick at getting everything out. It's a blessing and curse I live so far away - I would be here weekly.

My family has been going to Wells Bros for pizza since my mom was young, so you can say it's sort of a family tradition with us. Aside from holding a special place in my heart from tradition, their pizza is to. die. for. Crispy thin crust, sauce with a little bit of a sweet taste, and a perfect ratio of toppings on every pizza can't be beat. Definitely worth the weird drive through the shady part of Racine!

Great Pizza, yummy lasagna and raviolii. The homemade soups and pies are always delicious too! One of the great things about living in Racine is this restaurant.

I am not a fan of thin crust or even sausage as a topping, but my wife is. After going for the pizza dine in special I am a fan now. Recently moving to Racine we are now regulars. Their sauce is fantastic and we love their sandwiches. Now we make a visit twice a month. Our kids love it. Real old school ambiance. Big fans.

  • Megan S.

Pizza is OK. Definitely not the best in town. If you order the thin crust make sure to ask for it well done otherwise it will be limp cardboard. It's ridiculous to get into on Friday or Saturday. The wait is forever and there is no where to stand. No delivery either. Carry out is the best option.

Nice place, friendly service, great food. Got pizza and it's papper thin but it's really great. Feels like an established mom and pop place and has a vintage charm. Don't expect typical dinner or bar food, they take care to serve good food.

  • Kayla J.

Absolutely amazing pizza!! And the bruschetta is amazing too. Yes it is in a not so great neighborhood but there is an officer set up to watch the parking lot until they close. Definitely a place to try if you are in the area.

this place has ruined pizza for me. I come from downtown Chicago every other week for this immaculately thin crust pizza. I've been to LA & I've been to NYC ... and I am yet to find a better tasting pizza than the pizza here at Wells Bros. voted #1 in Racine County for many categories - voted #6 best thin crust pizza in the USA and there's no doubt of that. Wells Bros. is a hidden gem ... a truly amazing little place. daily specials act as a 'reward' for the very loyal local following & the overall atmosphere wins over visitors from near and far. do yourself a favour and come in and see why I'm babbling like an idiot about this pizza.

New to Racine/Milwaukee/Kenosha? Looking for great pizza? Come here first then go to other "Italian" places. This place has history, 90+ years of it. Other than the pizza (which is one of the best) I recommend asking for the the daily soups (5 or so) and the special of the day. I had the buffalo chicken rice soup and truly hit the spot during a cold Wisconsin winter day like today. Will come back again and again.

OM..."Freakin" G We are in Racine for 30 days and 30 nights; My wife and in-laws were going to a different pizza eatery for dinner, until Wells Brothers pizza was suggested. We made the journey; hole in the wall, just what we like. From the moment you walk in, the staff treated us very warm and we knew he made the right choice. I looked at the yelp reviews and showed "Stephanie" our very polite and attentive waitress a picture of a very appetizing pizza. She was more than willing to help me place my pizza order base on the items we saw on the picture. I ordered tomato, sausage, basil, spinach, onion and mushrooms on mine. My brother in law ordered pineapple, jalapeno, ham, tomato, mushrooms and olives. I stated, I was allergic to olives, so we took them off the toppings list. My honey ordered the baked Penn pasta with sausage. We also ordered a side of spicy buffalo wings. When Stephanie brought our order out. She brought my brother in law a cup with olives, since we couldn't have them on the pizza. This was very unexpected and appreciative on our part. This showed her caliber, professionalism and attentiveness. Then pizzas met and exceeded our expectations. True thin crust. The topping portions were just right, not much, but yet, enough. The Penn pasta was good, but not great. One the other hand, we didn't come here for the pasta, we came for the pizza. Side note: Wells Brothers exceeded our expectation up to this point. I give Wells Brothers and Stephanie an extra star for not bringing the check until we requested and at least waiting for us to finish eating. I hate eateries that bring your bill before your done eating. Thank you Stephanie, for great service.

Oh how I miss Wells Brothers amazing thin crust pizza. This place is great. The pizza is thin crust, crispy, and has the perfect amount of sauce. I split a large pepperoni and sausage pizza with onions and black olives with my friend Tina and we polished the whole thing off. On top of that we had dessert. We almost had to roll out of there, but luckily we were able to walk. The surrounding area is run down, but it is well worth a trip here. Both service and the food are great!

We arrived with a large party a few nights ago, prepared for a wait. Instead, the wait staff jumped into action, rearranged some things and made us space. The pizza at this place can not be beat. I am a thin crust pizza snob and this cracker thin flavor packed treat can not be beat! It's worth braving the sketchy neighborhood for a slice!

    (5)
  • Barney C.

Make a reservation or you may have a long wait. Try their thin crust pizza. I've now gone twice, and both times got the thin crust pizza. I am a pizza snob. I love their thin crust dough and how they bake their pies. Their pizza sauce is also great. Decent selection of microbrews on tap. Want more pizza pies! The place has been packed for both visits.

Asked for extra crispy pizza since last time it was soggy. It was okay but just charred on the bottom. Mushrooms are canned, not fresh. Salad was average. Service was slow but waitress was really nice. Has a strange old smell.

Great thin pizza and fried fish selection of blugill and perch. Had that Wisconsin friendly supper club feel and service was very good. But don't understand the armed guard at the front door. The hood did look run down but not like it was Afghanistan. Anyway, I felt safe!

  • Brent Z.

Pizza is awesome. But service is terrible. I went on a Wednesday with a group of 6. Showed up about 30 minutes early to put our name in. We were seated right at 6. The server had 2-3x more tables than he could handle, and unless we asked for it, we didn't get it. Refills? Had to flag him down every time, even when our cups were all empty. Plates? Had to find him to get some. Napkins? Same thing. The food was awesome, just as expected. We had 2 samplers and 4 large pizzas, so we tried a variety of menu items. Everything was excellent. Food would definitely be 5 stars. But they definitely need some major work on their service. The other employees appeared to be quick and attentive, so I think it may have just been the one server.

  • Liz N.

I've loved Wells Brothers for so long. Although the neighborhood is very iffy, the pizza here more than makes up for it. Cracker thin crust and always tasty, it's very easy to get carried away and eat the whole darn thing! They also have great soups - different choices every day. Sometimes their desserts don't quite make the mark (last time I went, they served a very watery lemon meringue pie). Service is very friendly and the pizza rocks! Don't miss out if you are anywhere near Racine.

  • Brandi N.

I know that saying I've had better pizza will get me molly whopped in some circles. I know they have fantastic pizza. But I went in the other day and ordered a small and then I got angry! My cousin and I couldn't share that small because it's like a personal pan. Word to the wise, order BIG if you're going to eat there. You can get much more bang for your buck though at some of the other local pizza spots!

Great pizza! Thin crust, the only thing is if you like anchovies ion the pizza, t makes the pizza a lil to salty. Otherwise great pizza. Highly recommended

More proof that Wisconsin knows how the heck to throw a pizza! Step into Wells Brothers and be transported to another time. They've been around forever and it kinda looks like it too, but I love the old school ambience...Now, onto the pizza! Love their pizza! Not too saucy, crispy and flavorful thin crust, sturdy enough to hold the myriad of ingredients you might want to have it topped with. We like spinach and tomatoes on her half, sausage and mushrooms on mine, and they do not skimp on toppings! The best part about Wells Brothers is that they serve your pizza on a paper doily on the pizza pan! Who does that? Wells Brothers does! This is one of our favorite places to go in Racine.....

Everything previously said still applies. Great thin crust pizza and quite decent southern Italian food. Don't try going there on Friday or Saturday without a reservation. I've lived in Wisconsin for 44 years and I still cannot wrap my head around why most WI pizza joints cut pizza into little squares. Pizza is supposed to be cut into triangles

I have to say this is the best thin crust pizza I have ever had. It's even delicious the next day without heating it up.

Total dump in a horrible neighborhood with absolutely horrible service. AND GREAT PIZZA!!!!! The young, tall girl who is a waitress has the worst personality and was a pretty bad waitress. The food itself was quite average. Stick to the pizza!

After a friend's wedding rehearsal we came to Wells Brothers for some good ole pizza. I must admit I was craving some pizza that day, so my belly was in luck!! (I can only review this restaurant based upon the large party of us, which was prearranged.) We arrived about 30 minutes prior to our reservation time, so our large party stood in the small bar area with some drinks and waited until our tables were ready. There were a couple decent beers on tap, so we enjoyed some brewskis until it was time to eat. The staff was great considering we took up majority of the standing room in the entrance and bar... they were troopers! The wait staff for our party was great, and took very good care of us. Beer pitchers were refilled upon request; hot fresh pizzas came out one after another; once again, they were very patient and accommodating with our large group. We were told the neighborhood can get real sketchy after a certain time in the evening, so the restaurant and parking lot are kept under police watch. Just something to keep in mind... ;-)

OK, people who say this place is located in a bad neighborhood have never been to a bad neighborhood. It is a basic lower middle class neighborhood and is perfectly safe. There is a big lot directly across the restaurant with lots of traffic in and out. Sheesh. The pizza really is terrific. Thin, crispy crust with just the right amount of tasty sauce, and fresh, flavorful toppings. Five stars. Service is friendly, environment is we-haven't-changed-in-decades comfortable. The rest of the food -- fried appetizers and salad was what we ordered -- was very pedestrian. Salad was iceberg, dressing was blah. Wines were very basic. But you come here for the pizza and live with the rest.

Best pizza I've had in WI. Tavern style cracker crust. It may be the worst neighborhood in Racine, but it's similar to most neighborhoods in Chicago. They even had a police officer outside the front door the Saturday night we were there. He seemed so bored.

Took a fishing trip in Racine and decided to try the top spot there. Despite being ranked so high and showing up at a fairly busy dinner time, the wait wasn't bad at all and the people were extremely friendly. We ordered the thin crust pizza, some calamari, ravioli and stuffed ricotta cheese shells. The calamari was not bad but not good. The thin crust pizza is good if you like the super crunchy crust. It was really good but I am still a deep dish pizza guy at heart. I'd order it again if I ever get back that far north. The ravioli and stuffed shells were really good also. The ricotta cheese in the shells was really smooth and and the meat in the ravioli was the best part of the pasta dish.

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. My grandparents used to come here all the time. The pizza here is amazing! But it goes beyond just the pizza. The staff is like family and they know just about everyone because once you come here, you can't stop and soon will be a regular. They always have at least 4 different soups to choose from every night and they are all homemade and delicious! I have never had a bad pizza here. Saddle up to the bar when the restaurant is busy and they will pour you the coldest beer in Racine in a frosted pint! LOVE this place!

From my house, Wells Brothers is a bit of a hike, but I view it as a destination! Old school "Tavern Style Pizza" and ambience. Think about it, from time to time we all have to fulfill a crave...this is one of mine!

I went with a friend for lunch and ordered a medium 3-topping pizza, as well as an appetizer of mac 'n cheese bites. The mac and cheese bites were delicious, but they were pretty expensive for the size/amount of food that they actually were. The service was okay, but it took a surprisingly long amount of time for our pizza to arrive. Probably around a half an hour. The pizza itself was what we went there for, after reading other reviews. It was nothing special. The crust was well burnt on one side of the pizza, such that burnt crust was the overpowering flavor. On the part of the pizza where the crust was not burnt, the pizza was good--but it wasn't anything overly memorable or spectacular. I don't have any overpowering desire to go back in the immediate future.

The great thing about this world is that no matter where you go there will be at least one great pizza joint in the city. I am born and raised in Milwaukee, WI and the go-to pizza joint there is Pizza Shuttle. Now I reside in Racine and without a doubt the go-to joint in this city is WELLS BROS PIZZA. Man this pizza is so good you will get the shakes if you go too long without having more. I usually get the hamburger cheese pizza with onions, garlic and tomato slices, ooooooooh so good. KUDOS to this joint and another KUDOS for receiving best pizza for 2013 in the city, very well deserved. CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!

Look no further if you want dry, boring, uneventful waitresses. OMG....Service was so slow and awful. The pizza was actually quite tasty, but the service will make you want to poke your eyeballs out.

Friday night with my current lady friend has become "Pizza Night." We decided to schlep to Racine based on an article we saw by Penny Pollack of Chicago Magazine. Boy am I glad we did! One of the best thin crust pizzas I have ever had. The neighborhood is a little run down, but inside the place is classic Wisconsin. An old bar with an attached non-descript dining room, Wells Bros. is truly a family affair. Our waitress was the daughter of one of the bartenders, sister of the other (and another sister was eating dinner at the bar). Cozy and warm in an everybody seems to know everybody sort of way. Got there 7:20pm, quoted 40 minutes. Dining Room and bar packed, we waited around 20-25 minutes before they offered us the opportunity to grab one of the tables ringing the outside of the bar that has just opened. Sufficiently hungry we lept at the chance. Beers in hand (Peroni and Haacker Schor on tap). We started with Cream Cheese Jalepeno poppers. Okay, not amazing, 5 pieces (though the menu read 6) w/ Marinara sauce for $5.95. Salads we observed while waiting looked boring, so we went straight for the 'za. Pizza was out quick. We hadn't even finsihed our appetizers. Went went for the 16" with pepperoni, black olives, and banana peppers. Outstanding! The crust near perfect, sauce flavorful, generous toppings, and just the right amount of cheese. Service (Ashley) was friendly and efficient-very quick. Well worth the trip. Other Italian-Amerca staples (along with a Friday Fish Fry) round out the menu. Pizza, app, two import beers, plus 20%+ tip and we were out the door for $40.

Great pizza, sketchy neighborhood... #6 best pizza in the USA! Yes, the pizza is great. The other Italian items on the menu aren't really as good, but you're here for pizza anyway so don't worry about them! The neighborhood can be scary but there's usually a policeman/sheriff stationed outside the entrance for security.

I love supporting local businesses, but our latest trip here was disappointing. Our large pizza with some veggies on it was over $20? It's not that good. We'll more than likely go to Infusino's next time.

The neighborhood is not good, however there is an off duty officer at the door watching the cars. The pizza is pretty good, has the basic toppings. The pizza is the best thing at this place, I am not a fan of the other items but others rave about it...I find the other items a bit generic in my opinion.

Just a great atmosphere with wonderful food. Had to try the thin crust and it definitely delivered, full of taste and came out timely. Best part of this experience though.. the service. They were as friendly as friendly gets. You know when a busy bartender has time to yell 'have a goodnight' over the people at the bar as you leave theyre hiring the right people. Heard a goodbye three times before we got to the door. Thank you for the experience!

I had the pasta (carb loading before a race) and it was fairly good. The people I were with enjoyed the pizza and really liked it. The service was good and prompt.

Driving up is a surprise, think Italian restaurant in the middle of Compton. Well, just that block is Compton style. Brothers on the corner in fully thugged out wear. But this restaurant sits alone in the same fashion it has for decades. From the look of the exterior I'm thinking if you are dining here and parked in the lot across the street or out front your car will be ok. No visible security cameras, but you just know it's okay. Word from a Racine peep suggests that this is mafioso territory, who knows. Paper thin pizza? Hell yeah. It's so thin it feels like a very light wheat thin or wafer. Me and broil sampled a pepperoni and garlic pizza. I'm thinking their sauce is sweet, maybe it's the garlic; unsure due to the bites with pepperoni casting a salty flavor in the mix. We sat at the bar, much different feel than the rest of the dining area. We were there just in time to sit amidst the locals, those that are working the room were on a first name basis, looking to sit at their usual spot. Kisses in respect as the family walks in. Elmer Fud types with milfity wives, mostly happy and welcoming. A few cops standing aloof in a corner of the room. Move able stools around the bar and behind old school style booths over looking the bar area so that the view is on the televisions. Three of these booths with RSVP cards, these tables had sat I'd say about thirty minutes before filling. Now that's really holding a table. The bartender had our beers on quick draw with chilled glasses in hand and the service was good. To the last bite: one last piece of pizza left and we had sat for some time, the waitress smiled asked who wanted it before taking the serving platter. That's respect for the food and the customer. I can think of times when servers just take away a plate just assuming instead of thinking. We prefer pizzas with less toppings that way you can really tell how awesome it is. Overloading takes away from the original thought of the pizza and you don't get to taste it in its true light. (Pizza 101) A small pizza and a couple beers, we were happy with the bill. Having hit Kewpees on the way into Racine, we were stuffed after pizza. No time or stomach space for kringles now. My only botheration was the men's room. I cannot stand men's rooms that are built without any thought. The urinal is tall and reaches down to the floor and in close proximity to the wash basin (sink). Any urinal user feels the need to hump it to protect view of their junk, eventually running into the toilet when it's freed. This must be a Wisconsin urinal placement thing, on the rest of our trip we found more of these examples.

The best thin crust pizza around. It's close to home, so it's a regular hang-out spot for us. We generally spit a "pineapple-bacon-pepperoni pizza" and an antipasto salad for one person. This is outstanding. Occasionally, we'll have desert, but when we do, we take it home for later. This is a neighborhood bar/pizza place and it feels like home to us. Note: This is a biker friendly establishment.

Best thin crust pizza I have ever had. Well worth getting off the freeway and searching for as it is not in the best area. The make the same pizza and you add all the topping you want. Excellent pizza and kind staff.

Passing briefly through Racine, my daughter and I came to Wells Brothers Restaurant based upon the currently high Yelp score; we were not disappointed. Family-run and in the same location for 90 years, the neighborhood has certainly gone through changes. Entering the restaurant, there is an immediate feeling of local flair and homeyness. We were seated immediately (2pm on a Tuesday afternoon), but were told that the wait on the weekend evenings exceeds 2 hours. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. At her suggestion, we shared the Caesar Salad, which was excellent: plenty of fresh lettuce, pepperoni, cheese and olives. My preference is towards a thin-crust pizza and the pizza here was a standout: thin, crispy, a cornmeal dusted bottom with a gentle char. The topping (tomato, mushroom, cheese and fresh basil) was a little thicker than I prefer, but still excellent. I enjoyed the pizza with the house Chianti, which paired nicely. Only in Rome have I had a restaurant pizza superior to this. That's my stand and I'm sticking to it.

I have to admit after reading some of the reviews o the service, I was a little hesitant to eat here. Some co-workers and I stopped for lunch recently and WOW am I glad we did! Not only is the pizza amazing but our waitress was one of the best I've ever had! Upon being seated the hostess explained to us that our server was still fairly new, but she was family, so we gave her a shot not really expecting much. I wish I could remember her name so I can request her service next time I stop for lunch; which will be very soon. Best pizza in Racine by far!!

Outstanding! First off: order their special. It won them national awards for a reason. Get whatever else you like, but make sure you get it. The good: best cracker thin crust pizza around. And that is saying a lot given I'm including the Milwaukee/Racine/Kenosha/Chicago area. That alone makes it worth the trip for me. The ambiance is throwback and the service is always quick and pleasant. The bad: the location. You'll be fine once you get there. Just go there straight there off Sheridan. They have full time officers watching the parking lot. I have to laugh a bit when this is called lower middle class. There are drugs and shootings up and down the street commensurate with a bad neighborhood. Just check out the crime stats online. A few months back two people were shot at at the small grocery store across the street while I was in here. It's not the ghetto, but it's pretty close (much like the far south side of Chicago became back when I lived there in the early 90s). Overall: you have to do it. The pizza is that compelling. Crust: 10/10 - perfect Sauce 9.5/10 - wonderfully flavorful Cheese 9/10 - perfect amount This is as good as it gets for cracker crust pizza, and one of the best overall regardless of category.

Wish I could give them Well's more stars. This is a terrific place! Great atmosphere...yes, the police officer was outside the restaurant, but the neighborhood was very quiet and didn't seem dangerous. Inside, it was perfect, from the friendly host to our great waitress (Stephanie - she called us "sweetheart") to the fabulous pizza. Thin crust, unique and delicious! We get great pizza from many venues in Chicago, but it would be well worth the drive to come up to Well's for a fun evening out. And, we will be back. We'll order pizza again, but everything that came out of the kitchen looked yummy. Highly recommended!

Racine eh? What could be good in Racine? Well since I had a few nights here, it made sense to find a place to go out and get some grub. Only a few reviews, but it seemed like the place had promise, so I grabbed the fiance and friend and check it out. I'm surprised to say this, but honestly, the thin crust pizza here was PHENOMENAL. Supposedly they are ranked as one of top thin crust pizza places in the U.S. (4th? 7th? can't remember anymore) but the title is well deserved. Cracker thin crispy crust, fresh toppings, and delicious... we could've stayed all night. Luckily we stopped in early, as only an hour later, every table filled up. We were wondering why there were so many "reserved" signs up on every table there. While the restaurant is not in a really industriously commercial area, it's worth a trip if you find yourself in the generaly vicinity. We are looking for excuses to head back into Racine. Delish. Verdict: YES! GO EAT HERE!

There is just something about a pizza place that has their own cop stationed out in their parking lot! This is my most favorite pizza place ever. I grew up in Racine, so maybe I am a bit biased, but it is really the BEST thin crust anywhere. Not much else needs to be said.

  • Jay N.

It's got a great neighborhood feel that serves a pretty good pizza. The thin cracker crust held up pretty well for the sauce, cheese, and toppings. The sauce could have used some more herbs but otherwise, it was a pretty good value. The atmosphere was fun. People were joking about the next day's football game as well as having people consider helping out a charity. I knocked it down 1 star for the smoking bar area which all people have to cross when you come in and out of the restaurant to get seated or get carry out.

I love pizza and this is a very good one. While this pizza is a little thinner than my ideal version, the sauce and toppings were excellent. I'll definitely make a return trip.

Pasta sauce is too sugary. DeRango's in Kenosha (just south of Racine) has the perfect sauce. My mom was Italian so I know my sauces. Just saying.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the country! The pizza is fantastic. The restaurant is family-owned and the service is great. It's a small place so it fills up fast. Call ahead for a reservation if you don't want to wait an hour or more, especially on weekends. The only negative would be that they close so early (9:45), but the neighborhood is not so great and I value that they want to protect the employees and patrons from crime in the surrounding area. That said, every time I have been there, a police officer has been on premises, either in the restaurant or in the adjacent parking lot.

Sure, Wisconsin is known for its cheese. Packers fans embrace their stereotype by wearing cheesehead hats. Stereotyping had also been embraced around the country that Chicago and New York are the places to head to if you want good pizza. Not Wisconsin. Holy shit! Wells Brothers serves up an amazing thin crust pizza! It's comparable to Benny's in Berwyn, Marie's at Lawrence/Keeler, Peaquod's on Clybourn... These Racine natives aren't lying nor if they are biased, it doesn't matter because Wells Bros. is GOOD! I got Wells Bros for the first time this past summer after sitting, sleeping and reading at North Beach for about 3 hours on a Saturday.

Really liked the thin crust pizza from here. Unlike other reviewers, I had no issues with the neighborhood and we went there at night for dinner. It wasn't ritzy, to be sure, but I never felt that I or my wife was in danger of any sort. Plus, there is a police officer who patrols the parking lot. Tip: The pizza was great, but I don't recommend taking it home. Instead, call ahead and make a reservation so you can get a table. If you take a thin crust pizza home, you will be eating luke-warm pizza at best. Especially during the colder months of the year. All in all, I would most definitely go back.

Best. Pizza. Ever. The rest of their menu is also wonderful but, it's so hard to pass up the pizza. You'll never be disappointed. The crust is THIN and always crispy. There is almost a sweet flavor to it. Due to the thinness you may want to order a larger pizza than usual, or extra appetizers. Everything is mouthwatering....

Friendly staff and quick service. Very good thin crust. Probably the best outside of Chicago. Love the crust. Not a fan of the location. I'm sure the locals understand why.

Hands down, the best pizza EVER! Thin and crispy crust, their delicious signature sauce and cheese blend, and one of the secrets to their greatness? They dust a little cornmeal on the pan before baking. Their bruschetta is also phenomenal, although not really traditional in style or taste. They take a piece of Texas Toast and top with an incredible mixture of tomato, onion, garlic, and basil... and just a little something sweet (sugar, maybe?). The result is a sweet/salty treat that will have you bickering over the last piece. The service is usually great and the ambience is old school. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

In reading the reviews, I agree that Wells Brothers pizza is the best thin crust pizza around. In all my travels, the only thing that came close was a pizzeria in Chicago. However, the comments about the surrounding area are bothersome, as my grandparents lived on the same block and I have very fond memories. In fact, my aunt now lives in the same house. I am a person of color who was raised in Racine. My dad grew up in this neighborhood and went to school with the Wells when their last name was Guido. He told me that when he lived there, people of color were not welcomed in the restaurant. Today, despite being located in a neighborhood that is predominately people of color, this legacy still continues. This is why I always get carry out whenever I have their pizza. The overwhelming majority of people who live in this area are not looking to rob white people. And, trust me, any questionable elements are not hanging out at Wells Brothers. I generally find that if you mind your own business, no one messes with you. So, perhaps next time I go to Wells, I will have the courage to actually sit in the restaurant and have a meal, and maybe you will not be constantly worrying about being the victim of a drive by or whatever stereotype you've concocted that has no basis in reality or fact, which is very rarely is the perpetrator a person of color and the victim white.

Wells Bros merits 5 stars based on their thin crust pizzas AND their Friday night fish frys. If you like thin crust pizza you need to go here. period. We order ours "extra crispy" for a hint of burnt on the edges to add to the taste. It's the type of pizza where you are always telling yourself as you eat it, "just one more piece", but before you know it, it's gone. The all you can eat perch on Fridays is the way to go. The choice of sides and soup are great as well, try the garlic hashbrowns. As others have mentioned, the neighborhood is on the iffy side, but we've never had an issue going here. The only fault Wells does have, is how smokey the bar tends to get while you wait. But then again, this is Wisconsin. Go here once and you'll be hooked.

If you're in Racine, this is a decent pizza option. Even though I'm only here for a short time, I've exhausted almost all of my food options. If you don't have family here or were raised here and still drive from Chicago to here for pizza, you're insane and/or have way too much time on your hands. This isn't the best pizza in the world, but it's pretty decent. The pizza here is of the thin-crust variety, something that I like. It tastes like brick oven pizza with the bottom of the crust scorched almost to a blackened crisp. I highly recommend getting something other than the cheese pizza. The pizza needs the fresh basil and the extra garlic as a minimum. I tried a cheese pizza and a pizza with sausage, onions, mushrooms, basil, and garlic. The toppings needed to be there. I wasn't adventurous enough to try the seafood pizza. Saying that this area is in a run down neighborhood is an understatement. I would not venture into this area after sundown. In fact, I made sure only to drive in this area between the hours of noon-3 just to be safe. Also, keep an eye on your car when you park in the lot across the street. The inside looks like a classic neighborhood bar/pizzeria but altogether does not fit into the neighborhood. The owners should consider moving to a nicer part of town.

(Wells in Racine) I did check this place out in Racine after a visit to the S.C. Johnson Wax Frank Lloyd Wright building with the family. The family and I liked the local feel of the place, its history, and that it was all family run. The service was nice, attentive, and quick. The food was good and filling and if you are in the area and need lunch, dinner, or just a drink we would recommend it...

When my beau's cousins offered to take us out for pizza during our visit to Racine, I had visions of Rocky Rococo. I thought I knew what to expect when it comes to pizza outside of Chicago. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surpirsed and very satisfied when we ended up at Well's Brothers. The interior is quaint, cozy and welcoming. Since we got there early in the afternoon, the wait was no problem on that Saturday. By the end of our meal though, the place was starting to fill out. Service was prompt and never lagged. The pizza definitely met my city slicker tastebuds. This type of pizza is so thin, it's easy to devour a 14" between two people, you can just tell yourself, "just one more slice". Also on our table was the antipasta salad, which barely fit the salad category, they could have just called it salami, cheese and olives with lettuce garnish bowl, which was pretty tasty too.

This is easily the best thin crust pizza I have ever eaten. The service here is always fantastic as well. The pricing here is very easy on the pocket book as well, my last trip in was for 3 large pizzas w two toppings and 2 orders of cheese bread. All of us drank soda and the bill was about $65.

I grew up eating in Wells Bros' dining room, sipping from plastic cups of fountain Coke, thinking the red & yellow hanging lamps looked like jiggly blocks of Finger Jell-O. I never knew any pizza but this one, with sausage, mushrooms & onions with maybe an order of fried mushrooms to start. Some years had gone by before I went back, even though my folks still live in Racine. They mostly get their pizza from the Infusino's takeout in West Racine, or go to Mike & Angelo's in the old strip mall on Hwy. 20 behind where The Ground Round used to be. But my return trip made me a born-again Wells Bros. cheerleader. Dang, that pizza is good. It's fun to sit at the bar on a Saturday afternoon and have a pint of Spotted Cow while you wait for your carry-out. Last time I did that, I sidled up next to an old, shorty-guzzling local mortician and ignored the tv's golf game to eavesdrop on some gambling talk from the two guys on my other side. When the pizza finally came, I almost didn't want to leave. But I really wanted to eat that pizza. I like pepperoni now more than sausage.

Simply the best thin crust pizza you will ever taste. Check that, simply the best pizza you will ever taste. They also do more than just pizza in the Italian genre. And it's all done well.....pun intended.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
