Had the California roll and chicken fried rice. Went in with my spouse. Pro: it's pretty good and good price for this roll and for their fried rice. Con: it's pretty packed and you can be easily forgotten by the server. Server didn't refill water, only towards the end when we were about to leave. When we received my spouse fried rice, it was cold. It sucks when it's packed especially their space is pretty narrow.

Love this place! The food is excellent, customer service is great! Everytime I have friends and/or families over who crave a good sushi experience, I'd take them here! I love their hibachi and their sushi!

Decent food here but it is pricy. I haven't done the hibachi here but I hear it's mediocre. Also, the sushi is pretty decent and well-priced.

I ordered the California Roll for pickup. It was a decent size, larger than I expected and tasted really good! I also ordered the Fried Oysters. It came with about 6 of them, they were fairly good. Will definitely be returning for future orders

We got the backside of the chef which took away the fun (plus it was freezing cold) service was very nice but slow. Food was great.

Fantastic sushi rolls. They were absolutely delicious. We got the spicy tuna roll, oshkosh roll and a sunshine roll. They were all amazing. The fish was very fresh.

Their lunch special is amazing. 3 delicious big rolls for only $11. They have speedy service as well-highly recommend them for a lunch date!

Beautiful inside. Lunch specials are pretty decent, but my California Roll didn't look very fresh. The other rolls I had (spicy salmon and shrimp tempura) were pretty good. Many of the rolls were too pricy a la carte. I would definitely come back just because I don't mind imperfections in restaurants.

Being a Midwestern native with time under my belt on the west coast, I have always been a little leery of Midwest sushi (don't worry, I'm equally leery of California BBQ). These guys pretty much nailed it though. We went during EAA, so the staff was running at full speed and everyone was a little road weary. But they were all very friendly (in true WI style). We had a few miscommunications trying to order some rolls for the resident vegan, but our waitress cheerily fixed everything without hesitation. (The AAC-- avo, asparagus, cuke- came out initially as cream cheese, asparagus, cuke. But they took it right back and made the correct one.) They were also happy to confirm ingredients for everything we asked about. The rolls were decently sized and very well priced. I'm pretty sure the avocado salad had half a Haas on it, so how can we complain? :-) We ordered some to eat in and some to take back to the rest of camp, and all were well prepared and presented. The to-go food held up perfectly for the drive back, and they remembered all of the condiments and utensils for us. We did not try hibachi but we could hear lots of oohs and ahhs from the next room, so it seemed to be going well. Definitely a keeper for return visits.

We went during EAA Airventure and chose to have the hibachi experience. With reservations we were seated immediately. The decor is acceptable and on first impression the restaurant is clean and appealing. The restroom could have used some attention but they were pretty busy so I'll reserve judgement for now. Our waitress got our drinks to us quickly and had our orders in the kitchen with no delay. Our hibachi chef was funny and talented and each protien, whether shrimp, beef or chicken was perfectly prepared. Their two sauces we're both tasty as well as their ginger dressing on the salad. You also get a bowl of soup that is good. Most of our party had fried rice, but chose the noodles instead and was glad. They were quite good and a different choice than is normally available. As a non rice eater, this was a plus. Overall, I'd recommend the hibachi if you are in the area. I'm hoping to return next year for sushi and will ammend the review to include that experience.

I ordered the one of the sushi entrée plates. It was appealing to the eye as well as delicious. I also enjoyed the fish soup and the ginger dressing on the side salad. The service was excellent, our hostess and other staff were more than accommodating. I have not experienced the hibachi and I'm not sure I will based on what I have heard, but I will be back for more sushi!

Worse service ever for a first time experience. Walked in and had to ask the bartender if he felt okay. As we didn't seem important enough to be waited on. There is a lack of sense of urgency for customer service. It took two servers to replenish drinks. Haven't even taken a bite of my food.

I have ate here before dining in but because I traveled alone on this business trip I ordered take out chicken hibachi. I thought it was pretty skimpy from what you get when you done in. Food was still good.

I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day and it was both of our first times going. If you're expecting the level of Osaka or Nakashima over in Appleton, think again. The atmosphere is almost cheesy, which for me, the atmosphere of the place is half of the experience. The food however, was fairly decent, and the pricing is just under that of the two earlier restaurants I mentioned. As far as hibachi in Oshkosh I think this is your only option unless you feel like driving into the Valley more. If it were me going again, I'd probably make the extra trip. I'm not saying it's bad, but there's better.

I'm leaving this review for my family mostly. They love this place, it's their favorite sushi place around. I've been with them before and I think it's pretty good too. My mom is pretty picky when it comes to fresh fish and restaurants in general, if there's anything off she'll throw that shit in your face. But she likes this place so that says a lot. They have my favorite salmon skin roll so that's cool!

We finally got around to trying this place on Saturday and were very disappointed. The food was not very good. Bland, poor texture, and not fresh all around. The tempura shrimp was pretty good but everything else was just bad. The California rolls were mushy, the steak was dry and bland, and the miso soup didn't have any flavor. The hostess wasn't very knowledgeable about the menu either. I'm glad we finally tried this place, but I won't be going back.

I have severe celiac disease and let the staff know I am severely allergic to gluten (not just one of those people who jumped on the gluten free bandwagon). I was very hopeful when I was told they see this alot and it would not be a problem. THey even brought out Kikoman gluten free soy sauce. That was where the great service stopped. The "chef" didn't even know what gluten was. He cooked my food on the same surface as everyone else's, so even though he used the right soy sauce on my food it was still being cross contaminated from the grill. The "chef" also used the same spatula and fork on my food as everyone else's- so more cross contamination. I spent all of the next day in bed with one of the worst gluten reactions I have ever experienced. The waitress (who was blonde with a horrible dye job) was also exceptionally rude and irritated to be doing any work what so ever. Granted we had a group of 17, but it was divided between 2 servers. We will never go there again. For people without allergies and who don't get our waitress you could have a great experience.

The atmosphere at this restaurant was very cool. It stood well above what you'd expect from a strip mall sushi joint. We ordered the Sakura, Crazy, and avocado/peanut rolls. The Sakura and Crazy were pretty much twins. They felt very heavy - the chef was a bit heavy handed on the mayo sauce. The peanut/avocado roll is brilliant - something I plan to recreate at home. It was nice to find a decent sushi place open for Sunday lunch, and I'll likely go back to explore other rolls. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, a good dining experience.

I must first point out that the hours on here are incorrect. When I called the phone continued to ring. I arrived just after 4 PM, and brought the hours issue to the waitress. She seemed a bit argumentative, but the hours on the door match Yelp. I just picked up my to go order shortly after Sakura opened. There were papers strewn across the corner of the bar, and it was quite an eye sore. The area behind the sushi bar looked neat and orderly. My sushi was actually quite delicious. I have a few issues with preparation, but all in all the fish was fresh. The majority of the sushi items on the menu have mayonnaise. I would prefer to have the fish be the star of the sushi roll as opposed to the same "secret sauce". The tempura, however, was very light and crunchy. I would have given this a 4 star, but I am very particular about sushi. The food tasted great, but it was nothing that you would remember a year later. Sushi should be a memorable occasion. For Oshkosh, WI, this place is definitely worth the trip if you just want fast sushi. I would definitely like to try the habachi another time though! Cheers!

Love this place. The food is good, the prices are good. The only thing is that it can get a little cold in the restaurant.

Terrible place for dietary restrictions, and very rude staff. Wish I could give zero stars. I was with a work group of 10 and we had a reservation. We were the only table in the restaurant, so our server could not claim she was that busy. I explained about being vegan and the server was annoyed, I'm not sure she even checked with the chef. Then I overheard the server making a rude comment about me to another server. I wish I would have told manager but it's probably too late. When the chef staring cooking, he had no idea about my dietary needs. He put shrimp on my plate, though I didn't order shrimp. There was definite cross-contamination, and he cooked my veggies in butter. I tried to explain but I think there was a language barrier, which is not his fault, and my server should have been more helpful. Then the food was not even very tasty. I have had great hibachi, and this is not it.

We took the Gandkids to the teppanyaki dinner on 11.1.2012, The chef made the whole experience a complete blast. It was a great way to kick off the visit, we had tons of laughs & memories that will last forever. Thanks Sakura !!!!

Definitely not bad for a Japanese restaurant in Oshkosh. Stopped by for lunch on the day before Thanksgiving. I was impressed with the decor and that they fit not just a Japanese restaurant in the space but also a sushi bar AND tepanyaki area. A big bonus is that you can get meals cooked on the tepanyaki grill without sitting at one of the cooking tables. My son got the bento box with salmon tempura, my mother in law got a tepanyaki meal, I forget which one though, and I got the teriyaki chicken lunch. They are definitely into presentation as the chicken was carefully stacked on its own plate with the sauce drizzled over it with shredded carrots as a topping garnish. As for the food, it was not spectacular but was definitely passable, especially for an area not really known for its broad cuisine choices.

Great place for lunch. I really enjoy the peanut avocado roll. During the week they have a really great lunch special where you are can get two rolls, soup and salad. And it would be even better if it was offered on weekends for lunch as well. I love their soup and the ginger dressing on the salad. The first time I went for hibachi it was very busy and the hostess was too inexperienced to be doing the job. She wouldn't stay up front to keep track of when people came in so she would skip people and not even care. But when I have been there since then it has been during lunch and has not been as packed and getting seated was a lot easier. The decor is modern and comfortable. The benches have high backs so there isn't a lot of disturbance from other tables. I would recommend eating here and if you are a little shy of sushi rolls try the peanut avocado. It is dry roasted peanuts and sliced avocado. And with a little soy sauce it is delicious!

Been here several times. Food is always good. Service was horrible this time. Waitress was new and needed training but she wasn't shadowing anyone. We told her we had 2 more people coming when she seated us so she just left us before we could interact with her at all. We had to call over another waitress about 15 minutes later to order appetizers while we waited. When the rest of our group arrived we ordered through the second waitress because the first was nowhere to be found again. Miraculously the first waitress reappeared to deliver us our bill...before the food arrived. After the food arrived we had to send the check back because we were still ordering beverages. The first waitress now looked lost just standing by the bar doing little pirouettes and staring into space. Come on Sakura, you're better than this.

Wish they would ditch the ridiculous birthday song! Food is good, service confused,(drinks take FOREVER, and waitress did not hold the soup and salad until we had even gotten the drinks-let alone half finished them) but that over loud birthday song is downright painful.

We have eaten here twice and both times the experience was excellent. It was just my wife and I eating the first time, and her parents came with on the second time. Both times we ordered hibachi styled food but we didn't actually sit at the hibachi table. And, both times the food was excellent. As far as some people on here complaining about portion size, I don't see the problem. Both times that we ate there we couldn't finish our meal and had to take the leftovers home. After the meal the owner came over to the table and was very friendly, making sure that everything was to our satisfaction. The wait staff was also very friendly and very accommodating. Also, as far as other people complaining about the hibachi tables being cramped, well yes it is a smaller restaurant then Nakashima's. I also think that because this is a new restaurants, they're probably still working on getting their niche. And to be honest, I don't really care for Nakashima's because it is always way too busy and the prices are more expensive. This place is quieter but at the same time it is still busy, but not to the degree that you're waiting forever for a table. The only reason why I don't give this place a five star rating is because, yes they are still working out some of the kinks but they are very minor kinks. This is definitely our choice for hibachi style Japanese steakhouse food from now on. Here's my update: After a few more visits to this place, I stand by my original review. We have not had a bad experience here. We've made reservations and have been seated immediately Every time, even on Valentines day. Been here 20+ times and have never had a "bad" experience, and I've definitely eaten in places that have been absolutely terrible experiences. I'm Very picky when it comes to service when out to eat.

It all depends on your standards. If you're in Oshkosh and don't want to drive to Koreana in Appleton, this is ok. The service is mediocre (better at lunch than at dinner), you may or may not get what you ordered (reminding them 2 or 3 times that you ordered could help), and the sushi is great if you've never actually had good sushi. So, you know, it's Oshkosh. I'll continue going here, but I'll also continue to relish real sushi out of town. Oh, and if you're making plans - their "reservations" aren't. Walking in and saying you have a reservation merely gets you added to the list of people waiting for a table. Which might be tolerable (though unprofessional) in a great restaurant, but if I lower my quality expectations for being in Oshkosh, please don't expect me to tolerate your additional incompetence. Still - we don't have a lot of choices, and sad to say but I'm really glad this is in Oshkosh.

We stopped in for sushi saturday night and were really impressed. The inside is nicely laid out with a great sushi bar and tables on one side and the hibachi tables on the other. My wife and I have had sushi all around the US and this was some of the best I've ever had. We had tuna and octopus sushi as well as the Wisconsin and Awesome rolls. Outstanding.

We decided to pick up some rolls for takeout, as we noticed they finally had opened. I'm glad we did. This was some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. I decided to take our family that evening to try the hibachi. It was fabulous. Everything was excellent, except the beef was nothing special. Maybe I'll try the filet next time. Great food, great service, and reasonably priced. I thinking found my new favorite place. Next we need to find out if they have a happy hour. Finally Oshkosh has sushi!

Excellent sushi and the hibachi experience is pretty cool. If you aren't feeling up to drinking saki from a squirt bottle you can always order the hibachi dinners. Highly recommended.
