The food was excellent. Plus you get great salsa and a bean dip with your chips. The service was outstanding as well. Such a great place!

Great margaritas, ice cold beer, fun bartender and great food. Chips salsa and bean dip when u sit down and it keeps coming. Good menu with plenty of choices. We sat at bar to eat which was fun! Had the grilled chicken breast with spinach and mushrooms with melted cheese sauce over all. Delicious. Very good Mexican rice. Burritos and enchiladas were good too. Moderately priced. Definitely will go back.

Authentic Mexican food. We enjoyed every bite of the salsa, Guacamole and bean dip and then the tamales and rice and beans, etc etc. We ate far too much but it was so good! We will be back!

I'm basing this review on the two times I've been here and on one meal that I get every time I'm here. I get the carne asada every single time. Its so good I don't want to try anything else. I'm not sure what kind of steak they use, but it's not like your traditional skinny skirt steak that you're used to getting at a Mexican restaurant. They bring out a huge steak!! The marbling on it tastes like a ribeye. I'm think it might be one, but can't say for certain. Needless to say it's a great meal. You will definitely have leftovers. I've tried to eat the whole thing and it doesn't work out well. The meal comes with tortillas, beans, rice, and guacamole. This meal could easily feed two people. The service is quick and the staff is friendly. This is my go-to place for Mexican food when I'm in the area. Haven't had anything else on the menu because I usually stick to one thing if I really like it. I'm sure their other food is good.

Customer service was excellent. Food was good not the best mexican I've had. We received a big portion of the fajita for two. Staff was friendly. Would go back again.

The wait staff was super friendly. Chips and salsa were superp. Try the Molcajetes mixer with corn tortillas. The meal is served with meats, fajitas, pineapple, and shrimp, all slathered in a chicken-based "Ranchera" sauce in which the flavor hints at indian curry. Simply deliciouso.

This was a surprise. A relatively small restaurant with big flavors! I had a quesadilla with pulled pork in a red sauce with pineapple & cheese. It came with miniscule amounts of guacamole and sour cream, but it was delicious! Friends had burritos, taco salad & shrimp tacos and all were pleased with their meals. We went on a Sunday for lunch, service was good and not too busy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, delicious Mexican food.

Pretty solid Mexican food here. We were in the area and decided to pop in based on other reviews. The salsa and beans to go along with the chips to start off the meal was fantastic. The salsa was delicious. Amazing how each Mexican restaurant has a different take on salsa. This one was excellent. I ordered the chicken enchiladas suizas, which were very good, but just needed to be a little hotter (I don't mean spice, I mean temperature - they were warm, but not hot -- almost like my dish was made first and sat while the others were prepared). Still, they were good. My daughter ordered a tamale, which she ate every last bit, even though when it arrived it at the table, she quietly griped to me that there was sauce and cheese on it (she likes them plain). I told her to just eat it, and she did. My husband and son both ordered the big daddy burrito, or something along those lines. They enjoyed. All in all - good. Good food, service was quick and attentive. But, there was an accounting error. Oddly enough though, it was made on the adding machine tape that was stapled to our tab -- I'm not sure how it was done. The math for the subtotal was correct, but when the tax was added, it somehow added an extra dollar and some change. My husband pointed it out. So - just a tip (and this really goes for ANY establishment - you may want to check to make sure it all adds up correctly.)

Love this place! Best chips and salsa, good margaritas, fast service! It's also really reasonably priced! This is the only Mexican place we eat!

Great! Food was great! Service was great! Prices were great! Favorite part was actually the chips and salsa. The waitress kept them coming, without us even asking. Totally on par for a good, quality Mexican restaurant. Only thing I noticed was that the place was totally deserted. Granted, this was at like 4 on a Thursday. But for the hour-ish that we were in there, we were the only customers. Even at the bar. Couldn't find a thing wrong with the place, so this confused me!

If you're from Texas or California don't come with any expectations. Other than that it's ok...

Great food and wonderful service. You'd be hard-pressed to find better Mexican food anywhere around. The salsa and beans you get at the door are worth stopping in alone. Great price for the lunch special and the full courses are great portions for the price.

Service was prompt and courteous. Chips with salsa and bean dip before meal was nice to munch on while waiting although not the best fresh salsa I've had at a Mexican joint. Our food was prepared and brought to us surprisingly fast and it was fantastic. I had the palenque burrito with a tomale on the side and both were delicious although nothing tops the tomales delivered by the nice Mexican ladies to a dairy farm I used to work at but the quality was acceptable at least. My coworker had the mixed fajita which he was delicious as well. We had the flan and tres leches cake for dessert which were wonderful as well. Plenty of food to cause us to both need to take a nap after eating so quantity of food per dollar is pretty high here.

The chili con queso was delicious with the pico on top! Soooo good. I had the quesadilla Monterey and it was fantastic, though kinda greasy. The burrito loco was huge and screaming hot when it got brought to our table, but it was fantastic too! Definitely a repeat restaurant!

Service - fast and friendly service. Had warm chips and two salsas as soon as we sat down. Atmosphere - casual, good for families. Food - portions are huge, giant burritos, plenty of food. My wife and I had the mixed fajitas (chicken shrimp steak), and choice of corn or flour tortia - good food. I would return. Overall positive experience, good food and friendly staff.

A few different businesses have come and gone from this location, but we hope this one is here to stay. We were so impressed with our meal here! Excellent margaritas, great bean dip and salsa served with chips, then the entree was new to us, mocojete mix(sp?) It's like fajitas taken up a notch by adding pineapple, bacon, and cactus with added cheese in a red sauce, served w/tortillas. I can't imagine ordering anything else next time we go, it was delicious! The entire staff was awesome, especially our waiter Nikolas. A big five stars here, we'll be back!

I used to think Durango's was the only decent Mexican food I would ever get the opportunity to enjoy in Oshkosh. Then I returned a few years later, and I discover that this new place called "La Cabana" is open. I'm a sucker for guacamole and corn tortillas, so I dragged my mom (also a guac fan) along. Tableside guacamole was so much more flavorful and just seemed...fresh...compared to other area restaurants, and they had a good sense of what the difference was between hot and medium, so the spiciness was spot on. The rice and beans were pretty typical and boring, but the salsas and bean dip that came out with the chips were great. All the meats we tried (in tacos and enchiladas specifically) were moist and well-cooked with plenty of flavor. The tamale could have used half of the amount of corn breading, as it was difficult to actually find the meat until about 1/4 of the way through, but it was still pretty tasty. The ambiance is fairly stereotypical for a Mexican restaurant, but the layout is spacious. The employees speak fluent English for the most part, but are obviously comfortable with Spanish. Either way, definitely check it out if you're looking for something different than Durango's, and grab a margarita if you like cheap drinks!

A good Mexican place in Oshkosh! The chips and salsa are the initial appetizer upon entering and the chips are nice & hot when they come out. The salsa and bean dips provided, despite the other excellent reviews about them, just weren't my flavor. I asked if they had any queso and they offered a white cheese dip side to compliment the chips. Highly recommended as it has some chile in it that gives it just a little bit of heat and goes awesome with the chips! The dinners we ordered were chimichangas and fajitas. The chimichangas were great but I highly recommend the fajitas. The amount of food that comes with the fajitas is enough to fill any appetite I believe. We also ordered dessert of tres leches cake and cheese cake chimichangas (I think that's what it was) and both were pretty good as well. Tres leches cake, I think, shouldn't have the chocolate topping since the tres leches is good without....but it was still good. Service here was awesome with our server having the perfect balance of visiting to take care of us without actually smothering. Pretty awesome place overall!

I grew up in California surrounded by excellent Mexican restaurants and have been trying to find a good one since moving to Wisconsin 6 years ago. We were passing through and the other reviews sounded good so we thought we'd try it. My expectations were not high and they lowered even more when we saw they were right off the freeway in a bright yellow building two doors from a Dairy Queen. But we were DEFINITELY impressed with the food! It was delicious!! Beans and salsa on arrival were great and my tacos locos had really nice seasoning on all three different meats. And we stopped with our two little boys who made a mess and the server was nothing but friendly. I'd say this is one of the best I've had in the state!

Just moved here from Texas. This place is a as good as it gets. The Food and service is awesome. I recommend their fajitas and of course their margaritas (it's their own recipe not a store bought premix).

My wife claims the steak fajitas were the best she's ever had. I agree, the meals we've had here have been good, the service attentive. My Piña Colada was very good. We will definitely put this on our list of places to eat when in Oshkosh. The restaurant is not closed. It (re)opened in May 2013. Back again in July 2015. All the above is still true plus we found the warm bean dip served with the chips and salsa to be a nice touch.

Oshkosh, WI of all places for good Mexican food. Came during the EAA Airventure Show. Excellent food. The chips and salsa were yummy. I'm not a huge fan of refritos (refried beans), but man their beans were delicious. The guacamole was fresh, and it was a huge portion! We ordered the burrito and a molcajete. Both were delicious. The molcajete is my favorite! The various meats inside were absolutely delicious. Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity. The margarita was yummy. Definitely a place to come to.

Stopped here randomly on our way up north. So glad we passed up all the chain restaurants. The food was fantastic. All fresh ingredients and well seasoned. Definitely try the classic burrito and the fajitas!

The food was pretty good. Good choices. The chicken fajitas were great, lots of flavor in the seasoning. Everything was fresh. Service was great. A little slow at lunch, but expected since it's a new restaurant. Would recommend.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
