We chose this restaurant as it was a Friday night and there was an hour wait everywhere else. We went past several times throughout the week and I was intrigued so it was perfect that when I called there....it was a 20 minute wait. We entered and waited for about 10 minutes until we figured out there is no hostess and decided to sit at the bar. I assumed it was the owner who took care of us initially and there was another young bartender that wouldn't crack a smile ever. Asked for menus a couple times. Owner seemed annoyed we decided to eat at the bar. Patrons were ordering "old school" drinks which was neat. Place full of regulars and the ambience was nice. Cheese soup was great. Steaks charred and lacked any flavor. Once we got our food, the little service we had stopped. Got the rest of the things I needed by walking across the restaurant and got it myself. It was ok but we won't go back.

Food okay service good wonderful ambiance. Not the best I ever had but a good safe go to. The wait staff seemed unsure of their options and specials but VERY accommodating

The name put me off from going here for many years but we stopped in the other day for an Old Fashioned and to check out the menu and I was very impressed. Nice decor, friendly service, and definitely one of the best Old Fashioned in the Northwoods - they even come with a cinnamon stick in the glass which adds a nice bit of complexity. As for the menu, sandwiches are definitely the way to go - good options and they seem fairly priced. The rest of the menu is just overpriced for average food - I know real estate in downtown Minocqua costs more but ultimately most people are driving anyhow so you need to compete with all the nearby supper clubs, etc. If the food was fantastic I could justify the prices - unfortuantely it's not. Even the fried cheese curd appetizer which was expensive was clearly just frozen, pre-breaded, uniform curds that came out with too much crunch and just didn't justify the price. Other entrees unfortunately mirrored that experience, not bad but not great and just way too expensive for what you get. If you're in the area, it's worth checking out for drinks and/or sandwiches but as for a full dinner there are many places nearby that I prefer with better food for similar or lower prices. It's a shame because I like the space and the people are friendly if not the most attentive servers, but I don't expect to be back for dinner any time in the near future.

The lemon drop martini was a great start to the meal. The server was gracious and was able to go over a few specials and also made some recommendations that were newer to the menu. I had the chicken Madagascar and it was great. Very mustardy and there was a LOT of sauce for not a lot of chicken. The Yukon Gold mashed potatoes were very flavorful and paired well with the sauce. A little on the pricy side for what you got but not bad for a dinner stop.

Not like it used to be . I had the chili mac , it was a small plate of wet noodles with some bland chili on top . My girl had a reuben that looked and tasted like a an 8th grader made it . Service was just ok . If you want the best bloody Mary go to lk tomahawk ...... Shamrock bar.

Super windy last Friday and the power went out, so same neighbor and I headed here for dinner. I had a Rachel along with a pint of Old Style...both were delicious. Service was fine and we were out the door in under an hour. Reliable place in downtown Minocqua.

Food was okay. For the price did not think it was worth it. Would not go back.

The ol' Skunk and Doilie. No seriously, read the story in the menu when you go. I'm not going to spoil the origin of the name, I'll let you go there and read all about it, because you should. Mike and Denise always treat you like you're part of the family and hook you up with the greatest Old Fashioned (or Bloody Mary) made north of Milwaukee. And every single time I go home, I get their open faced Ultimate sandwich smothered in hollandaise. So good. So, I might be a little bias because I'm friends with the owner's son and I bartended there for three years, but I haven't worked there in years, and I continuously show up whenever I'm home. And when you go in with a big group, ask for Fran. She'll treat you right.

Service was slow. The staff seemed inexperienced and we had to ask to have our order taken. Also had to ask multiple times to get ketchup. I suggest leaving it on the table. Food was below average.

So... First of all, really, you use the word 'antithesis' on your menu... Really? Really. Second, 'vittles' is misspelled on the sign in front (it's 'victuals'). Ok, so I am the fourth generation of my family to come up to Minocqua, to own a home here, and with that, to patronize the local food establishments. My family has tried MANY times over the years to come here... Today was my first "lucky" attempt. Verbiage aside, I had a Bloody Mary that tasted like straight V8... No good. Then I had a clam chowder that was bland, and tasted like it came from a hospital cafeteria. I questioned the freshness, was advised it was made today- ya MIGHT want to brush up that recipe. Got a beer cheese soup in its place- honestly the beer cheese soup gets three stars. Salad is iceberg, and has some browning... Mmmmm, and the peppercorn dressing is awful as well as the raspberry vinaigrette - essentially, corn syrup and powdered raspberry jello (or, cough syrup). On the other hand, and the ONLY reason this place deserves one star, the broiled walleye was pretty great, so I'd recommend that if you accidentally find yourself here. Lumberjacks would go on a killing spree here... No lumberjack would willfully sit here and eat this- they would overturn the table and walk out. More insulting to me now is that I have to PAY for the crap I was just served because the food made me so weak, I haven't the strength to overturn the table and walk out myself. Keep in mind, I rarely leave bad reviews... Rarely. This place BADLY needs an overhaul, and they need background music that doesn't suck, and doesn't stop halfway through the meal; I am no longer upset that until today I had never been here... Now I'm upset I have.

Been going up to Minocqua for years, but this was the first time we ever ate at Polecat & Lace. Service was real good. Wife had a steak sandwich and I had the perch. Food was excellent, but a bit pricey. We will definitely go back.

If you want a decent meal served in a pleasant environment served by a competent staff, then I have to recommend Polecat & Lace. They have numerous booths and regular tables available. They usually are not terribly busy (wait is minimal) Our waitress Megan was very professional and served us quickly. Give them a try. After dinner you can walk to the ski show!

Great Bar & Restaurant! Great atmosphere! Very classy bar! The entire bar is done in solid oak, stained glass cabinets-reminiscent of a bar from the 30s or 40s. Food was excellent too!

The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The decor was beautifully done and very neat old times decor. The food was kind of blah...the portabella mushroom appetizer was so tough we had trouble cutting it and the inside wasn't creamy or flavorful at all. The White House sandwich was just ok. Might give it a try another time but am in no rush to go back.

Extremely expensive for okay food. Only go if you are famished and the wait everywhere else is over an hour. There was absolutely no wait here, now we know why!
