Excellent customer service! I usually have to wait a while because when I get carry out orders, late on weekdays, there is only 1 woman preparing every order. This woman is very pleasant and helpful with recommendations. The Phö and egg rolls are my favorite! I've never had egg rolls that taste this freshly made. No mystery meat in the Phö or mystery cabbage in an egg roll!

I recently tried West Bank Cafe with my wife on a cold & wet fall night when we had a taste for pho but didn't want to drive 25 minutes to our regular Vietnamese place on South 27th Street. Pho is such great food on a cold night or when you're sick, and it's become a regular comfort food option for us. We both ordered large bowls of pho tai, and unfortunately, what we got was mostly inedible. The beef was tough and chewy like it had been pan fried; I ended up eating around most of it. The broth itself was OK with generous amounts of basil and chili paste added, but nothing great. Last, the bean sprouts tasted quite off, like they'd been hiding in the back of a refrigerator for way too long. We both left most of our dishes, got the check, and picked up something else on the way home. I had high hopes for West Bank Cafe as a decent pho option nearby, and the hostess/server was very nice, but I'd never try them again. I've had pho at 9 or 10 Vietnamese places around the country in the last few years, and West Bank Cafe just doesn't measure up to any of them.

I ordered take-out from here last Friday. Having just returned from vacation, I was still craving the delicious pho I had in San Francisco. West Bank is just a few blocks from my home so I figured I would give them a try. Because of the negative reviews on Yelp, I set my expectations low and ordered pho and spring rolls to go. To my happy surprise, the food was delicious! The pho was just as flavorful as San Francisco. The add-ins of bean sprouts, red pepper strips, jalapenos and thai basil were fresh and crisp. The noodles were slightly over done, but not quite mushy so I let that one slide. I'm not sure I would ever dine in here. The dining room looks run down and unwelcoming. But the woman who took my order over the phone was friendly and the food was exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely order take out from here again.

I don't like giving one star reviews, especially to places in my neighborhood, but I had such bad customer service and mediocre food here that it is necessary. It was about 15 minutes from closing time when I walked in. The lady behind the counter asked me if I wanted to be seated in quite the rude tone. I only wanted a quick bite to go. I stood at the counter, perused the menu, and placed a quick order, Crab Rangoon and Egg Drop Soup, not things I would generally expect to find at a Vietnamese place but among the least expensive things on the menu and I haven't been rolling in the dough lately. She walked back into the kitchen to make the food. She got it all done pretty quickly, shoved the bag at me then wrote out a check slip. The amount she said she was charging me didn't match up with the prices I had seen in the menu, so she broke it down for me. She said she had given me the Crab Rangoon and a LARGE Egg Drop Soup. I was slightly confused as there had been no sizes listed for the soup in the menu she had given me, but I was pretty hungry so paying a couple dollars more for more than I had initially asked for didn't seem like such a bad thing. I paid, thanked her, and walked out. I walked a few doors down to a table in front of a neighboring bar and opened the bag. The first thing I noticed was that the container with the soup in it was only half full. It was the type of container I am used to getting soup in for take out orders at Chinese places. It made me wonder what a small would look like if this was a large. Then I noticed that there were no forks or spoons in the bag. I figured that I wouldn't need a fork for the Crab Rangoon and that a spoon could be surpassed by my just drinking the soup out of the container. Then I noticed that there was no sauce for the Crab Rangoon. I got up and walked back to the restaurant to get a spoon and the sauce, but she had closed up. All of the interior lights were off and she had locked the door. I checked the time, and it seemed I still had 5 minutes, but I suppose she really wanted to get out of there. I knocked lightly on the door, and she poked her head out and just shook it at me. I tried to explain that I was missing sauce and needed a spoon. She just continued to shake her head.

I have been coming to West Bank for many years now. We love both the food and the service. This place may not look as updated as others and the dine in volume has slowed, but don't let that scare you away. The food is absolutely delicious. You won't get the expected greasy, fried Americanized food here. Great, fresh, light dishes. Had a great experience again tonight. Looking forward to our next visit.

I know that it is likely just the one woman doing everything but it took 30 minutes for her to take our order, an hour to get our food. The restaurant was nearly empty. When our food did come, it was kind of cold and not very good. the fried spring rolls tasted like the fryer hadn't be cleaned in awhile and my husband's coconut chicken was very sweet and not spicy at all--like a gross chicken dessert. Maybe just stick to the Pho?

Excellent pho and egg roll takeaway. Courteous service, felt authentic. Time estimate (twenty minutes) proved to be pretty inaccurate (turned out to be forty), but food was worth the wait.

Yes, I just moved back from Seattle and yes the Vietnamese food there is AMAZING! (FYI, if there check out Green Leaf in the International District or Long Downtown-my personal fav) Ive eaten at West Bank before I moved and the pho and the fish dish I had were OK. BUT, whatever he just served me tonight was inedible. In all honesty, Ive eaten a lot of inedible things in my life, but after one bite of the lemongrass beef, I was done. As a Riverwesterner, I'd love for the West Bank Cafe to survive and at least be good, but after eating that I cannot recommend this restaurant in the slightest.

I really like this place. True, the service may not be great, and the wait can be long, and they can definitely use a remodeling--but I feel the food is so good that everything else doesn't really matter. Try the Eggplant in a clay pot with pork and Vietnamese coffee- they are absolutely amazing!

This restaurant has extremely reasonable prices for some very good authentic food. Run by an elderly Vietnamese couple, this is a great local spot to stop by for dinner. I was really sad to learn that they don't do lunch (they open at 5:30pm) , but with only two people to run the place that's pretty understandable. The Pho I ordered was excellent, and much better than some other variations I've tried. The ratio of meat to broth and seasoning was absolutely perfect, and the broth itself had a delicate but complex flavor. It had no oily residue, and the large portion size was just right as an entree. I'm absolutely intending to go back, and I hope to bring more friends along on my next trip. The decor is certainly a little dated and not particularly impressive, but I felt it kind of added to the small-restaurant charm. Update: The sesame pork appetizer is ludicrously delicious. I don't even like pork usually, but this had me cleaning the plate with my finger.

I love pho!! I love this pho!! Obviously I ordered the pho on this adventure down to my new local Vietnamese restaurant. The other two in my party ordered, one of the clay pot dishes and pho as well. We wanted egg rolls, but were out,sad face. So instead we got spicy beef, it was good but nothing special. The clay pot dish was a little mushy. He wasn't too happy with his choice, he should of got the pho.... It was a one man show the whole time we were there. Cute, short old man serving cooking and clearing tables. So it takes a while. It was fun will be back.

I just ate at West Bank Cafe. I'd call the food good, nothing mind blowing but still good. I was a little worried when I arrived since there was no one else there. Also having read the prior reviews I only ordered a small portion. However, the server was humble and pleasant and the Pho I ordered hit the spot.

I don't get the name of this restaurant. West Bank? Can't figure out the connection with Vietnamese/French. Food is quite good though. We had the spring roll, lemon grass chicken and a seafood dish. Loved the lemon grass chicken. Try Vietnamese coffee. It is delicious. Beats starbucks anytime. Loved the creaminess. Guess it must be the condensed milk. Got Banana Flambe for dessert. Surprised to see this option in a subdued place like this one. I would expect to see that in higher end restaurants. It's acceptable. All in all, worth a try if you haven't been there. You can check out art bar after dinner which is right next door. I would definite go back. There are other items on the menu that I would like to try.

I'm still processing this experience. Very good food, no doubt. Kind of strange being the only dine-in customers...cool ceiling but inside needs to be updated badly. Very courteous service! Excellent egg rolls and a lot of fresh ingredients in the dishes, especiall the bamboo!

I LOVE West Bank Cafe. I've eaten Pho all over the country and they do a fantastic job. Other reviews have commented on the dacor and service. I've been to the big flashy restaurants, I'd rather have the great food at West Bank. Can't wait till my next visit. Highly recommended!!

It used to be that Chicken soup was required if you have a cold.....then I tried the Pho at West Bank! Joe will do you right. Start with the sesame pork, it is amazing. My daughter likes it so much we have to order two now. Prices are very reasonable and the pace is very relaxing.

This has been a favorite for years. I just love their food. I'm not gonna lie, it takes a bit to get your food and the atmosphere is a little, well, let's just say it's been a while since any redecorating. Still it's worth the drive from the burbs for the YUMMY food. Just go for the food and be prepared to settle in and enjoy your meal. Go with someone patient you like spending time with.

Get take-out. Pho, lemongrass chicken, orange beef, any salad, egg rolls, fresh rolls, spring rolls. Don't get the mussels...one out of every 5 is gritty/empty/questionable, and don't be surprised if their "regular" hours (5:30 - 9 M-Sat.) include early closings & late openings. Dining in has a few pros: clay pot specials (really good), intimate greet-your-neighbors closeness & cons: dated mauve & pink decor, slow (albeit friendly) service, even if you're the lone table, and cold-when-it's-cold, hot-when-it's-hot temperature (i.e. faulty heater, nonexistent AC). Love this place, however, and wonder how they stay open.

I had the crab rangoon at zoo ala cart and was completly dissapointed. They were just wantons without anything in the middle but air . Horrible. I know they were on;y 2$ but they dont put anything in the middle whats the sense. Keep your money for other places that do not hide the best part.
