I struggle between two and three stars for this one. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and make it three. This place was empty except for us at 7pm on a Friday night, that's not good. I have a couple theories, one of which is that it's a place you would just drive by, and the name "Wayward Kitchen Co" made me think it was a kitchen remodeling / interior design business or something. The other is that their draft beers are all overpriced considering the area. Drafts were all $6.00... the same beers can be had at surrounding bar/restaurants for $4.50-$5.00. We were greeted with friendly service at the totally empty bar, and we ordered some overpriced draft beers and a couple burgers. The Wayward burger was all right I guess, it had blue cheese and bacon jam and some arugula on it. It was cooked way more rare than I asked, but I don't really care about that, I still ate it anyway and it was still pretty good. I was not crazy about these fries, they were really thin. I've had plenty of awesome burgers that were $14 but this one just didn't do it for me. I got a little bit pissed off by the music selections that were playing, I was forced to listen to that stupid "Wanna Put My Tender Heart In A Blender" song which was making me lose my appetite. That band sucks pyosified manticore diarrhea through a crazy straw. It was not horrible, just overpriced all around. And dude, with Triskele's only a few blocks away... well, let's just say I would rather go there any day. Their fries are better, the atmosphere is warmer & friendlier, their burgers are just as good only way cheaper, their draft beers are way cheaper, their menu is awesomer, and I just think it's better. Despite my opinions, I'm not telling you to stay away or anything, this place was not totally terrible and I suggest you try it and judge for yourself. It's just that there's an option down the block that I think is better and I would prefer that any time. -1 star for playing Eve 6, but did not factor this into the overall star rating since it may not have been their fault. If you like that band, you suck ass.

I really wanted to give this place a higher star rating, really, I did. And in lots of ways it deserves maybe 4 stars (based on the food and drink), but other factors brought it down to a mediocre 3 :( Okay so my first interaction with Wayward was a few months ago at Yelp Elite Matriphony event where they had a station serving brat burgers that were to die for. So Wisco, so good. One of the owners was there and she was awesome--super friendly and laid back and even gave me a free drink ticket because I told her I was moving into the area. Great first impression. Then I went to Wayward a few weeks ago with some girlfriends and was not totally satisfied unfortunately. The outside looks very Upnort Wisco and the location is kind of strange, but that's okay, I can get past that. Don't judge a book and all that.. Once inside, the atmosphere was really not much better. No real art of ambiance was created in the back dining area. And I heard the bathroom smelled like a dirty fishtank oh boy. Aint no body wanna smell that. But I was still hopeful. Our server was not the friendliest and our drinks took way wayyy too long to get considering there were maybe only 2 other tables of people int he place. I mean a good 15-20 minutes. The second round of drinks took just as long and he actually apologized by saying 'Sorry, the bar is swamped." Kind of embarrassing since there were literally 2 people sitting there and one table in the area. The specialty cocktails were delicious- my favorite being the twist on Moscow Mule (even though he reminded us several times not to steal the copper mugs...rude). The Malbec was very ashy and not like any Malbec I had tried. no thanks. Once the food came, we were all smiles. My favorite being the entree vegetable stew and the fried jambalaya apps. oh my goodness so favorable, original and delicious. So to sum up, the food and drinks were delicious- a 4.5, but I think the place could improve on their atmosphere and quality of service. I want them to do good because the owner seems like an awesome woman and the food is delicious. There just needs to maybe be more attention to the other details that make dining out such a wonderful experience. I still say it's worth checking out...

I stopped at Wayward Kitchen somewhat buzzed after a day on the pedal tavern. Granted it was a Sunday night after Garlic Fest, the place was nearly empty. We decided to sit at the bar, where the owner/chef was serving up drinks. The ambiance was nice, one you'd expect from a fancy restaurant, low lit and somewhat quiet. We were trying to figure out what to drink and the owner recommended a Rubarb cocktail. The rubarb cocktail was fantastic and perfect after a long summer day. It tasted so healthy and fresh, but so good at the same time. I was pretty jealous I opted out for beer when I had a taste of the veggie concoction. We all decided to get the Wayward Burger. And despite me never ordering a burger Medium Rare before in my life, something about the owner made me trust that it'd be okay. It ended up being better than okay. The burger and fancy cheese and bacon jam all tasted fantastic. The meat was cooked to perfection and every bite was bursting with flavor. If there could be anything, anything at all about this burger that wasn't perfect, perhaps it was the bun. Too much bun. The fries looked amazing and were topped with sprinkles of some sort of fancy cheese. Although they were crispy and cooked perfect, they tasted like nothing. I was quite surprised considering they looked like they'd be garlic-y or have some sort of intense flavor, but they had no flavor at all to them. Still better than undercooked fries though. Our server - the owner/chef was wonderful throughout the whole experience. You could tell he takes great pride in his restaurant. He offered us history about the place and how it came to be which was quite interesting. The bill came and it wasn't overly expensive, but it wasn't terribly cheap either. I came back almost as soon as I left, but for my jacket. Would I come back again for food? I definitely think I would. And maybe try a veggie cocktail this time around.

I had dinner her a couple of weeks ago and I had very mixed feelings about it. We were the only people in the entire place on a Thursday night, which was surprising and a little eerie. Since we were the only people there, we were expecting better than average service and it was still very slow. Out food was pretty good, prices were very fair. I had a burger, it was a bit dry, but I tried the mac and cheese from one of my friends and it was phenomenal. It was definitely worth a stop, but I can't say that I am dying to go back anytime soon.

My husband & I decided to check this place out because I've heard from friends that Wayward Kitchen served good food. When we walked in, the decor was very simple and it wasn't busy for a Sunday evening, which was nice. We sat at the bar and it did take the bartender several minutes before even acknowledging that we were there. I guess she was looking for some alcohol to make a drink that they apparently ran out of but still, at least make eye contact and tell us that you will be right with us. We asked for the menu and we were given the Brunch Menu (at 5:00 pm - apparently they serve brunch until 6:00 pm - I think this is the first time I've heard of a place doing that, which is nice to know). We had to ask for the regular dinner menu because my husband was not in the mood for brunch. My husband ended up ordering a side of french fries (I can't remember what kind of cheese was on it) and fish tacos. The french fries were delicious and I couldn't get enough of them. The fish tacos were so - so, maybe it's the breading or something but there was something about it that I didn't really like (I preferred the Iron Horse's fish tacos). I ordered a sandwich with egg, pulled ham, arugula and some spicy mayo - it also came with a side of frieds. It was very good and the mayo just added enough kick to the sandwich, which I really liked. The sandwich also came with a side of french fries, which I was very happy about :-) I would definitely go back and try some other things on the menu.

The place was nearly empty when we wandered in, which always makes you wonder. We were looking for "cheap and cheerful," (an expression the Chief of Staff picked up from some couple she stayed with in Australia), but this restaurant turned out to be expensive and a little mean-spirited instead. The space is attractive, they have a good location nearby on First, with their own convenient parking lot, and a neighborhood Milwaukee tavern atmosphere. Nice and roomy, even if it weren't empty of people, it would be a nice place to have a drink and some bar food. The Chief of Staff got the macaroni and cheese, which they top with bacon, so it's not really something she should be eating since she doesn't have her gall bladder anymore, but she thought it was tasty. I had one of the best bean burgers I've ever had, the food was good pub food fare, but priced well above what most pub food costs. The entrees were comparable to Chez Jaques, a classy French restaurant down the block. The real price gouging occurs with the drinks, which is oddly poor strategy given that it looks like a bar that serves food. I got a good beer on tap, with a rye whisky shooter, which didn't hit me anywhere near as hard as the bill. The draught beer was $6, the shot of Bullit rye was $8, and they added another dollar hidden up-charge for serving in a shot-glass! (No, I didn't get to keep the shot glass). So, my boilermaker was $15, the same price it would cost on a Spirit Airlines flight, their deceptive pricing does seem inspired by the airline industry. The business strategy is found in the airline industry and other places, economic expansion by charging for what used to be free, and if your customers don't think they have a choice, they will get used to it. However, Spirit Airlines publishes all their incremental new charges, and their base fares are the lowest in the business, so the consumer can know ahead of time of all the extra charges, and can opt out of most of them. The hidden drink up-charges are more avaricious and deceptive because they're not on the menu, and there's no way to opt out even if informed ahead of time (could I have my shot directly into my mouth please?). The insidious hidden whiskey up-charges (rocks, neat,) on top of existing up-charges (premium, top shelf, called drinks) didn't fly in some cities, you can see that after customer complaints in San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, most restaurants and bars gave up and went back to traditional fair pricing or just raised all drink prices evenly. I hate to think that we're more tolerant of dishonest price gouging here in the town that beer made famous, but either way, I'm not going to condone it. Even in this neighborhood, most restaurants and bars have more respect for their customers, and I can still therefore vote with my wallet. I may sound old fashioned, but in a friendly bar, the bartender treats any whiskey drinker as a possible return customer with a generous first pour, it's a way of saying, "have another sometime soon." On the other hand, if you don't want to see unwelcome customers come back, you pad the bill in such a way that they get the message, "we don't need your business." That's the message I got.

The tacos come in 3 different meat and 3 different vegetarian varieties and I like those options. 2 tacos per order and the server "should" ask you if you would like corn or flour tortillas. You can share these tapas style. Mushroom tacos: really excellent, great flavor, my favorite of the night -- just a bit too much oil. Korean beef: my friend liked these best but for me the meat was a bit fatty/chewy and flavor was alright. Chorizo rice: love the egg and it was perfectly over easy. The rice was flavored well, but too much oil and too many hard pieces of rice. Squash salad: I was craving salt. There needed to be more goat cheese and even a few more pepitas would have been nice (salted, please). Very much like Thanksgiving as the focus of the dish is the Chinese five spiced squash. I like the skin on the squash to give the meal some kind of texture. Overall, it's pretty much just spice/squash forward. Different. But just ok. Notorious P I G: as much as I enjoy being reminded of the song "Juicy" this pork was anything but. I was glad for the pickle on the plate and that it was all mine. Each bite of the dried pork really needed that wetness. The flavor was heavy heavy rosemary. It was on the pork. It was also on the fries. And very fresh rosemary at that, which is great. But spices need finesse and respect for the power that they have. This would not be something that I'd order again. Fries: need their own section. Dark. Soggy. Wet. Again with the oil. I don't get the fries at all. Dessert was a chocolate cake, gingerbread, dulce de leche, berries. It was good, decent, ok. Looked pretty. I plan to give Wayward another shot sometime soon. There are just SOOOO many choices in Walker's Point that it's important to impress on everything right from the start. It's a lot of pressure and I give all of these business owners a lot of credit and appreciation.

Wow come here now. I'm drinking a 1$ pint and eating a chorizo French fry taco- which sounds terrible but isn't, in moderation if you can. The apps include poutine and Korean fried chicken and they're half off 4-7 I think. Foodies! Come full this place and your stomachs. Sharon works the bar and knows what's good!

The place: the parking lot was greatly appreciated, and the restaurant itself, though not tons of curb appeal and rather unassuming is quite large upon entering. The kitchen is open late, which was great because we didn't make it to dinner until 9:30pm. There were about 10 other people there- made the place seem even larger because it felt to empty. This place could probably seat 100. (That's just me eyeballing it, I didn't see a sign anywhere). Service was pretty great, but not sure if it would be different if they were busier. The taste: we shared the Korean chicken wings which were HUGE and sticky and sweet and delicious. Two of those along with 2 tacos was a perfect amount of food for us. I got the beet tacos--- interesting mix of flavors and textures, definitely heavy on the beets, but I expected that going in. I had a bite of the husbands Korean need tacos--- he loved them, and I understand why. They packed a lot of flavor into the contents of the soft taco shell. My face: for a while, it was covered in the stick wing sauce, but they give you a wet nap so I was glad for that. Besides, I think the more that ends up on your face at the end of the meal indicates that you really enjoyed what you ate. I enjoyed what I ate, and the fact that it was only $30 for the 2 of us.

I want to just say "bacon jam is all you need to know", and it probably is. But for those of you who can't take my word for it, here you go... This place has an open, modern feel to it with a long main bar and a couple of areas for tables. I can see it being full on weekends once word gets out. The menu is full of lots of great options! Small plates, sandwiches, fish, ribs, chicken and an interesting veggie entree. They also have 5-6 types of tacos, but no one from our group ordered any so I can't comment on those. I joined in with a group of regular Yelpers who passed around several of the small plates including the smears, chicken wings and fries. After looking at the menu and changing my mind several times, I decided it was a burger kinda night and ordered the Wayward Burger. It was a good choice! This is where you have the Bacon Jam. It also comes with arugula and cheese, but really the bacon jam is what makes the burger. And how could it not? I had started out with a Rhubarb Sonya cocktail which had vodka, rhubarb bitters and cucumber. Very light and refreshing. I tried the chocolate gingerbread cake for dessert. Good flavors, but not really my cup of tea. I'd probably try the arancini or red velvet ice cream/blondie dessert next time instead. Overall, great experience here! I'm excited to get back and try some of the other options as well. Lunch, anyone?

About a decade ago, I spent many a Tuesday night here with a group of friends while one of our friends ran karaoke in the former incarnation that occupied this space ... so being here and eating food for a yelp supper club on a Tuesday instead of just drinking rum and diets all night whilst awkwardly attempting to duet dancing queen like I used to is sorta surreal... Anyhow.... The space is now modern and softly lit. Done up in black and cream, the main bar is definitely a focal point. The menu had a lot to offer and it was difficult to choose! One side of the menu had small plates and salads and the other burgers and main dishes. To complicate matters more, they had some awesome sounding specials. I had the special of ribs and jalapeno cheddar mashed potatoes, served with Brussels sprouts in a bacon "jam". The star of my plate was definitely the potatoes! I had a cucumber-y drink with vodka and a bunch of other ingredients...really nice and refreshing. For dessert, we tried a chocolate gingerbread cake. Not too sweet and a nice way to end the meal. A nice modern space with an eclectic menu in this little halfway point between walkers point and Bayview.

Well Mom, you would be proud of me. I ate Brussel Sprouts. Not only did I eat them, but I enjoyed them. Now, I'm not saying that I am going to order them every chance I get, but at least now I have a frame of reference for what a good sprout should taste like. Dined here for the first time along with a group of about ten other Yelpers. We all consistently and truly enjoyed our meals. The regular menu , which I understand changes regularly, offered a plethora of delicious sounding options, but it was the daily specials that caught my ear. Salmon or BBQ ribs? Such choices. I feel that the overall quality of a menu is typically well represented by the execution of their seafood dishes. Thusly, I went with the salmon. It met my expectations. Perfectly flakey, expertly grilled; no qualms here. On the side were two small roasted and smashed potatoes topped with a bacon jam. That's right, you heard me: Bacon Jam. I could have gone for about three more pounds of those. Then there were the Brussel Sprouts. Typically I avoid these like the plague, but I gave them a chance. I was pleasantly surprised. I might even consider ordering them again, but we'll see. I washed all of this down with 2 or 3 (Ok, it was 3) "New Old Fashionds." I gotta be honest here. They were nice (Makers Mark bourbon), but they were not $9 nice. I've had just as good or better for half the price in crappy dive bars in the Dirty Stallis, but I digress. The overall impression of my experience was overwhelmingly positive. We have a very attentive server, although the place was dead on the Tuesday night we were there. I had a nice conversation with the bartender before I was sat for dinner. The interior is clean, fresh, and crisp. It's tasteful without distracting from your meal. The large bar area has a beautiful Carrera marble counter. Very nice. They even have a nice parking lot. I really like what chef/owner Tyler is going for here. I truly enjoyed my dinner here and I will definitely be back again. I might even have the Brussel Sprouts when I do. My Mom should be so proud.

My fiancee and I were looking to try one more new place before we left Milwaukee and she had remembered hearing about Wayward, so we decided to give it a shot. It was a severely rainy day and there weren't many people there when we arrived, so we were a little concerned at first that the light patronage may be an indicator of less-than stellar food or service, but that proved to not be the case. The service was great. The waitress perfectly balanced attentiveness with allowing us time to enjoy the meal. And she was able to provide very helpful information and opinions on the menu items. We started with the Korean chicken wings, which were a revelation. Unmatched flavor and whole wings. We followed that with a great salad, then the bulgogi tacos, which were amazing. About 2/3 through the meal, the chef and owner actually came out to introduce himself and ask how our meal was going. We gave him our feedback, which included a suggestion to offer kimchi with the bulgogi tacos. He immediately offered to bring some of their house made kimchi out and did so. It certainly did the trick and he appreciated the suggestion. He also made us aware of a new dessert they were trying out that day that was not on the menu, which we later decided to try and were very happy with. Overall, it was a great meal and a nice treat to get to speak with the chef/owner and get a glimpse into the thought and intention behind the menu. I absolutely recommend this place and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

The restaurant seats probably around 75. About a dozen of diners there, but this place is super new. The owner, Tyler (something), that I recognized from his days at The Milwaukee Ale House, stopped by the table and chatted soon into our meal. He also stopped by later to make sure everything was ok. We both started with the chicken tortilla soup. It was a wise choice as it was very tasty. Large chunks of chicken thigh meat and super crispy tortilla shreds made this an excellent choice. I had the Wayward Burger. Made of Neiman Farms beef, this burger was juicy and delicious with a crispy outside, but medium on the inside. Cooked to perfection. It was on a sesame seeded bun and topped with a Cambozola cheese, arugula, and bacon jam. One of the tastiest burgers to date, and very expertly created. The bun to burger and topping ratio was very balanced. I'd say it was probably a 1/3# burger. Crispy thin fries were on the side with a dill pickle. My fiancé had the Korean tacos. They were fantastic! I loved the charred taste that seemed like charcoal grilled, but I was told simply open flame grilled. The char was perfect and likely caused by deep caramelization of the meat and tortilla shell. It was garnished most excellently with a radish and Korean aoili or similar sauce. We had to pass on dessert, as we were stuffed. But dessert sounded pretty decent. Anodyne coffee is available, which is super nice to have. Unassuming building. Excellent parking availability, as there really isn't a whole lot of other business around this block. Friendly atmosphere, but not overbearing. Nice selection of music: MGMT, Lumineers... your alt-folk rock. The only thing that I docked a point for was the cocktails. They were good, but perhaps they needed that little extra panache or change back to true traditional drinks. I liked the extra mile with the house made cucumber juice in the Rhubarb Sonya, but it was missing either a better garnish, better liquor choice (vodka is pretty boring to me), or a splash of seltzer. I will go back as the food was awesome, and hope that this place helps to revitalize this neighborhood.

I agree with the other reviewers that everything sounds good and it is hard to choose here. I confirmed that they get their beef from a local grass fed source, Nieman Farms. Plus one point there. The waitress suggested the meatball sandwich. It took a bit for the dishes to come out, which is a good sign that they prepare it fresh! I was a bit disappointed by the meatball dish. It had plenty of flavor. What I didn't like was that the bread was rock solid so I just ended up eating the meatballs. This is definitely not filling. The pesto used was decent but not the best I've had. I am willing to give them another chance on another dish so I will be back.

Came here a while back and everything just missed the mark. The best thing was the Korean fried chicken wings, but they still could have been more crispy. Limited menu and not enough layers of flavor with small portions. The pork sandwich was too salty and not melt in your mouth tender. The polenta and stewed pork was also salty, but the polenta was good. The kimchi fried rice was extremely small and just so so. Overall not sure if I would come back. Tried almost everything on the menu and there's nothing really that makes me want to come back for more.

This was our first time here and it was amazing! Our server, Tony was wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful, but never overwhelming as some servers get. The food was fantastic! We had the egg sandwich and breakfast big A$$ burrito (which they are not kidding about) the egg sandwich was superb, but I would have liked a little heartier bun. I had the Rhubarb cocktail and blueberry Moscow mule, which may very well be my all time favorite cocktails now! Check this place out for sure.

After 60 years in the Milwaukee area; it takes awesome to impress me. I'm calling Wayward just that!! Our kids live in the third ward and we live in the western suburbs so we were looking for something new and different. We were greeted by a friendly bartender and soon struck up a conversation with the owner and his wife. They have wonderful creative ideas and it shows in their food! Pleasantly surprised to find appetizers are 1/2 price. Killer calamari with a sauce that was homemade and "out of the box" delicious. Liked it so much we had TWO orders! The Root Veggie Salad with feta vinaigrette dressing combined the spice of the arugula with the earthiness of the root vegetables, sweetness of raisins and crunch of the nuts for an explosion in your mouth. My daughter is a vegetarian and tried the Moroccan Stew. The polenta was homemade and creamy and the blend of Moroccan spices was pungent but not overwhelming on the blend of vegetables. My carnivorous daughter broke her 30 day cleanse to sample a Wayward burger. It was worth it. The bacon jam was a unique and mouthwatering addition as well. My son enjoyed the Shrimp Po' Boy and requested grilled shrimp rather than deep fried -- no trouble to the kitchen, and equally as delicious. I, the Birthday girl, treated myself to the Braised Beer and cheese curd mashed potatoes. So good I don't care if I make it to my 61st birthday. No room for dessert, but if it's anything like the rest of the menu, save room.

Had dinner at Wayward on a sleepy Sunday evening and everything was great. The place is clean, nice seating, nice environment and solid service. We ordered a couple of cocktails off the drink menu and they were excellent. My girlfriend had this awesome cucumber/rhubarb drink that was supreme and I had some gin/champagne thing that also was very good. We both got the pimento cheese hamburger and loved it. The cheese comes on top fried up like a halo floating over an angel and if you are daring (or go on menu) you'll get some pickled onions and peps. Awesome stuff. The bun was great, meat was good quality and mine was cooked perfectly. The little fries are great. They had some cool cheese clumps sticking to them and were crispy. The dessert has potential to be good. We ordered the rice ball. Sounded good but was like a fried up ball of rice with nutella inside swimming in a pool of orange marmalade. Not my most favorite dessert ever but it didn't spoil the evening. We would definitely go back.

This place has so much potential. You can taste the dedication in the food. Bloody Mary (made from scratch) was awesome. Must try. I ordered the Korean chicken wings and notorious PIG sandwich. I am actually craving it again already! Can't wait until this place works out all the kinks and things get rolling. Don't keep this place a secret! The owners deserve a lot of customers because this place is delicious!

Heard about this neighborhood gem from a coworker and stopped in last Saturday evening after the Bayview Bash. It was fairly slow at about 9 PM with one other person seated at the bar. The bartenders were very engaging and I really lived the open space with a cafe feel to it. I ordered the Mac & Cheese with bacon for dinner and had a couple of cocktails - the "new old fashioned" and something that was brand new for fall that was a take on a Moscow mule with blueberries. Both drinks were delicious and refreshing crafted with a perfect balance - not the typical Milwaukee bar experience of doubles for drunkenness instead of flavor. A number of people came in for the pedal bar tour and ordered a number of drinks as well...but they completely missed out on the star which was the food. The Mac and Cheese was so delicious and creamy, topped with a hefty amount of perfectly crisp bacon. It was really amazing and I'm looking forward to visiting Wayward again to try out their newest menu of both food and drinks.

For Saturday lunches, my partner and I typically try to explore a new place. Yesterday, we decided to give Wayward Kitchen a whirl. We were greeted, and served, by Megan, who is one of the owners. Right away, we felt very welcomed. She was eager to talk with us about their beginning and continued success (which comes with ups & downs). Tyler, owner and chef, eventually joined us in conversation, which certainly added to our experience. The space is awesome! -- a historic-industrial look, yet comfortable. The items on the menu are successfully adventurous and should satisfy any foodie's palette.

Stopped here on the pedal bike bar tour. Very nice clean little place with the nicest bartenders. Didn't have time to eat but the bartender gave me a copy of the menu ! Bonus! Dogs are not only welcome , but encouraged on the patio! We will be back

Upon entering the space is a bit cold and stark seeming. I do like the light fixtures, but the cream colored cement walls just need something more. The bar is rather large - with even a tiny little back bar that's on a higher level. We were lucky to have these seats. They gave us a great view of the restaurant. It felt like we had our own little secret spot. The bartender was super friendly, and sweet and was able to attend to our needs even though she was short staffed and quite busy. My friend opted for the fish of the day which was Tuna. She asked for it Medium and it came out WELL done. It's almost a sin for tuna to come out that done. The flavors were great, but the texture was way too dry. The side scalloped potatoes were really rich and creamy. The brussels sprouts were roasted with a delicious balsamic glaze. I had the short ribs. It was a small portion - but I savored every bite. It also came with the delicious brussels sprouts. The short ribs were so tender and flavorful. We indulged in dessert as well. We got the Dessert Arancini. They were lightly fried and filled with NUTELLA served with a side of orange marmalade. Really very very good. You can't go wrong with anything nutella! Overall I would really like to come back. I feel everything was very promising. We overheard that the Wayward Burger is a must. I think that's what I'll have next time.

My wife & I went here last night. The hostess, bartender & wait staff were great. Unfortunately the food was not worth returning for. Our salads & entree were missing ingredients listed on the menu & for some reason there were items added that were not on the menu. We were told it was the first day of the new menu, but there was only 8 other people there & 3 were only having drinks. Not sure if we will return or not.

I rarely write reviews on Yelp, so when I do it's because it's really amazing or really crummy. This place was really amazing. I had read an article online and was intrigued, so when my husband suggested I pick him up for dinner and we go somewhere not super pricey near walker's point, we opted to try this place. The decor was nice, I love the exposed brick wall- it gives it a homey feel. We were there super early so it wasn't busy at all and thus we got our food right away. The prices were midrange and really there was something for everyone- salads, tacos, entrees and burgers/sandwiches. I got the wayward burger which had bacon jam, arugula and some cheese that I had never heard of and it came with a side of thin rosemary parmesan french fries. Holy cow. Not only was my burger cooked perfectly, but the flavors were a wonderful blend of salty and sweet. The fries were amazing and the value was fantastic- considering how good the food was compared to price- it really doesn't get much better than this. My husband ordered the fried meatball sandwich which was smothered in cheese and covered in pesto. Delicious. We were both really impressed. We love trying new restaurants and lately have been disappointed, so it was really refreshing to try a new place (this place has only been open a month!) that was so good. Yes it's in a weird location- you'd almost pass it by if you didn't know to pay attention- but it is definitely worth the stop. We'll be back and we'll be telling our friends!

Stand-out neighborhood place in a city of neighborhoods. Everybody may not know your name when you arrive, but they will before you leave - and vice versa. Great service at the bar and amazingly flavorful food! It's unbelievable what olives can do to boost the flavor of a grilled chicken and artichoke dish.

The food was pretty great. Simple, tasty, and creative menu items. The space is really nice also. Worth a try.

The braised beef was the best sandwich I've ever had period. And if you go, which you should, if you don't try the fries, you will be missing out. I love the place.

Maybe it's me. Maybe it's all my fault, or maybe it's my moms.....but I'm a really picky eater. I rarely venture out of my normal routine, because the world is a very scary place. Especially when it comes to food. It's not that crazy though, I just know what I like and I stick with it. I'm trying to break myself from that though, at least in minor ways. So, since I'm always telling myself (and anyone who will listen) that I'm looking for the best burger, sometimes I have to go to a place I wouldn't normally go to, like I did last night. I heard about Wayward Kitchen Company when they first opened, and it was always on my radar. With a good amount of time in between work and volleyball,I thought this would be the perfect adventure. I walked in at 6pm, to see only 1 person eating at the bar, and no tables occupied. I know they are new, maybe not well known, but if I've heard about them, I figure most people have right? News trickles to me really slowly. I sat down and was immediately greeted by a very friendly bartender. When I say very friendly, i mean the type that offers you a pet name every time she addresses you. Hun, sweetie, love, and I think once she even called me schnookums. Was it adorable? Sure. Was it a littttle too much? Absolutely. Here's where the problem is all on me. When you give me a menu, I tend to shy away from words I don't know. Who knows, maybe I would have liked cambozola cheese, but I quickly opted to switch it out for American cheese...because, well....'MERICA! I was also excited that the burger came with bacon jam. I've had bacon jam on my burgers from Roll MKE, and it was awesome. Right after I ordered, I witnessed the cook come out to the bar to talk to the waitress about my order, apparently she screwed it up, so it was good of him to come double check it, honey. Food came out pretty quickly, and like most schnazzy places, it was presented very beautifully. I won't lie, it was a good burger. Not great by any means, but definitely good. The bacon jam wasn't very tasteful at all, not at all like I was hoping. The fries were a disappointment. Lukewarm at best, Some sort of Parmesan-like cheese on top of them that wasn't very tasty (i don't know why people put that on fries anyway...maybe another fancy thing I'll never understand.) It's not that I hated the burger...by any means....it just didn't do much for me. I'm sure their other dishes are just fine, and probably amazing if you are into that type of food......but me, I'm a burger guy, and this burger was pretty meh.

If you're looking for a lively date spot, I recommend this place. The food is great. The drinks are good. It's loud but the good drinks make it a fun date or group dinner spot. I've also hosted events for 30-50 people here. I'm a big fan of the hummus.

I have to drop a star from my original review. The reason being for overall value for the price and general feel/ambiance of the place. The food is great here. You can't order wrong. Many delectable offerings to choose from! And I have dreams about the Wayward Burger. Fantasies, really. Cocktails are also mighty delicious. Service is awkward at times but certainly friendly. Prices? Prices are odd. The bar menu is priced the same as other places with craft beers and cocktails. So on the high end, but the quality is there. The food prices are what puzzle me. Overall they're quite high for what you get with the exception of the burgers. For example, I just had the Mac 'n Cheese entree for $15. It was a side-sized portion which is fine, but priced quite steep then. Tasted great but I would have been much happier paying $10 based on the size and what it is. And I'm not expecting American-over-sized portions when I go out to eat. In fact, I'm not a big eater and I don't care for leftovers so I appreciate smaller portions. I just expect the pricing to go along with it. The other hiccup I recently experienced was with a novice bartender. If you offer craft cocktails, I expect a knowledgable bartender. They have a small bar menu and I ordered the Jamaican Fizz. It was supposed to be lovely concoction of gin, hibiscus tea, honey syrup and a few other ingredients. She informed me that they were out of the hibiscus tea so she couldn't make it. They have only 4 or 5 cocktails on their drink menu so I asked what else she could substitute in the drink. (I'm thinking another flavor of tea, juice, etc.) She was quite puzzled and said then it wouldn't be a Jamaican Fizz without the hibiscus tea. Well....yes, that's fine. Craft something new, bartender! She thought about it and hesitantly suggested a strawberry tea and then a plum tea. I asked her what she thought would go best and she more confidently recommended the plum tea. She offered to make something else if I didn't like it, which was a nice gesture however the way she presented it was that it was going to be terrible. The cocktail turned out marvelous! I just would prefer a more confident bartender making cocktails. My other quandary with this place is what are they? Who are they? I'm not sure what the personality is. They have that casual, approachable yet upscale kitchen feel. But then they offer sports drink specials and the games on TV's which seems to clash with what they have going on. The menu also has a touch of this "unsure of who we are" feeling. Don't let that detract you from enjoying their great dishes. I just hope they are able to hone in on what they are good at and succeed as a new restaurant.

High hopes There are so many awesome choices in the neighborhood and I was hoping Wayward could be added to my rounds. Sadly, my first visit was disappointing. I liked the concept of the Chorizo rice but the portion was small, oily and much of the rice was hard. The korean beef tacos had good flavor with the radish slaw but were also a bit oily too. The server sold me on the Notorious PIG but it was very dry, sausage-like with all the herbs, and too bread-y on the bun. Overall, the menu has something for everyone and the decor is pretty standard. The location is a bit odd in the southern shadows of the AB clock, just look for the neon sign!

Very good food and service! We had the ramen noodle sliders which were very unique and delicious. Picture a bun made of soft tasty ramen with an Amazing Swedish/Asian meatball inside. Also had the cheeseburger and fish fry. Cheeseburger reminded me of in and out and was better than most famous burger places in town (excellent buns) and the fish fry was far better than most. Fries there are out of this world!

Ate here for dinner last weekend and it was amazing! Highly recommend checking this place out. The food was delicious and the service was simply outstanding. We went for dinner, ended up sitting at the bar and stayed for several drinks and dessert! The homemade red velvet ice cream and blonde brownie was the most amazing dessert I've had in a long time. I can't wait to go back again, especially to try Sunday brunch and for their patio in summer!!!

Stopped in on a Sunday around noon for a bloody mary...delicious and served with a Rhinelander shorty! Pleasant, cozy and classy...a perfect date night; which is why I came back at 8pm and brought my significant other for dinner. He had a Hinterland Pale Ale and the Wayward Burger. Easily the best burger I;ve tasted in a long time! Complete with bacon jam, arugula and cambozia cheese and served with awesome fries! I ordered the grilled meatball after a recommendation from one of the servers, Caitlin, who was super sweet and very knowledgeable about the menu. I would have added a picture of my sandwich but I dug in right away because it was so delectable and didn't get the chance. Also delicious, the meatballs were flavorful and juicy, definitely not dried out like so many other meatball sandwiches I've had, it was served on a baguette with arugula pesto and provolone. So good, I often don't go back to a restaurant and order the same thing, but this could be my new go-to! Afterward (even though we hardly had room) we had the blondie with red velvet ice cream and it was fantastic! They make all their desserts in house, even the ice cream which is to die for. It can't go without saying that this is definitely a super hospitable place, the owner Tyler came out and talked to us to make sure everything was going well and told us a lot about our dishes, it was fantastic to learn that he buys his own produce everyday locally! Very knowledgeable and fun to talk to! YOU MUST TRY THIS RESTAURANT! TWO THUMBS UP! :)

My friend and I are eating our way through Milwaukee and this was one of the stops on our list. We grabbed some drinks and had the ramen sliders and bulgogi tacos. The ramen sliders were DELICIOUS. Two small pieces of ramen sandwiched a mouth wateringly spicy meatball. The sauce was on point. The bulgogi tacos left a lot to be desired though. The meat was far from bulgogi and the vegetables far outweighed the meat content. That said, it was still decent. Cocktails were a little bit pricey ($9-10), so we stuck with beers.

Cute new addition to the neighborhood! You have to get past the awkward neon flashing "open" sign that makes the outside of this place look like a fast food joint. Once inside, it is classy and cozy. Perfect for a date night. We stopped in very early-bird-special time on a Sat night and were the only table. There were a few others sitting at the bar. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered: Korean BBQ Chicken Wings: good, but salty. Also, full size wings. As in, right off the chicken. Not typical smallish legs and flats. Break em in half yo! Difficult to eat and messy. Chicken Tortilla Soup: Amazing. Best soup I ever hard. No joke. It was served only warm, not hot, which I chalk up to them being new (and us eating dinner at 5pm). Wayward Burger: Really awesome burger with bacon jam. How can anything be less than fantastic if it's served with something called bacon jam? The fries were thin, cooked perfectly and tasty as well. They have parking and TVs - bonus!

Not sure why such good reviews? Food was ok... but over priced! Three of us went to eat...two burgers, a pork sandwich and three drinks came to $66! The pork sandwich was fatty and dry on a cold, hard, dry bun. Burgers were ok but Hamburger Mary's burgers are better. Drinks tasted great and were different, but for $10 in a tiny, tiny glass with lots of ice were not worth it! Maybe it was the brunch menu? Maybe it was late in the day on a Sunday? I may go back to try the regular menu?

I have been here a couple of times before and the food has always been amazing! I came today with some friends for the walkers point food crawl and was so excited to try what they were going to serve. I was surprised to see how many people were waiting at the door even before they opened. We stood at the bar for a while as we were waiting to be seated and had some great cocktails. I could tell they were overwhelmed. It took 25 mins to get seated, which was crazy. The food was amazing once we got it. We had the pork tostada with pickled watermelon salsa & grilled eggplant involtini with housemade ricotta. We had time to watch the flow... Looked like they got their butts handed to them. I do say that with kindness. As we were at several other places on the crawl and it was a similar state, if not worst. We will be returning soon to Wayward. Hats off to the amazing bartenders, and our server Reed.

Order the dessert arancini. OMGOSH. You will not be upset. It's a coconut rice pudding ball with a warm center of nutella and then deep fried and served with a little bit of orange marmalade. Wow. I mean...WOW. Just get it.

Great burger, decent service, a little pricey draft beers. The wife and I sat at the bar this recent Saturday night for a casual nice dinner out. We have been wanting to try this place for some time now and it was a good night for it. Not crowded, actually kind of empty. I would give this a 3.5 stars if I could, food and service was a 4, price was a 3. I would like to stop by for their Friday Happy Hours 1/2 price apps.

Disappointing. Fish taco was unremarkable. Squash salad was unremarkable. Hamburger was good. With all of the good places in the area, I would not return here. Nothing that stood out like at some of the other spots in the area. Staff very pleasant.

I would straight up murder somebody for the chorizo fried rice. It was fantastic. My only complaint was that I wish I had more. I went with a party of 4. We were seated right away and the hostess was very courteous. We got a bunch of small plate meals and each one was fantastic. The drinks were great too! The Rhubarb Sonya was the best. I wish the place had a little more decor, or warmth to the room. But honestly it didn't matter because I was too busy stuffing my face. Great job!

Let me start by saying this place has some really great ideas however it fails to deliver. It was 1:15pm, beautiful Saturday afternoon, we spotted this place, intending to go elsewhere, but we're intrigued by a place we had never heard of. The restaurant was pretty empty, one guy at the bar, maybe a table outside. The meat on the wayward burger was delicious, nice portion, cooked perfectly yet it was served on a frozen and/or stale bun. The notorious PIG, the pork was dry until you hit one of the crispy fried little fatty bits but worked well with the dijon ailoi. Both sandwiches and the fries where under seasoned, a little bit of salt would go a long way. The chorizo fried rice was pretty good. More of a concept dish since the rice was not technically fried but the chorizo combined with the kimchi was delicious. The building is cool but needs some complimentary decor. Overall, this area has come a long way in terms of culinary options. It has a lot of very good restaurants to choose from. This restaurant needs to step it up if it wants to last.

First time trying this new restaurant. The place had a cool laid back feel to it. Our bartender Steve was super friendly and knowledge able about the menu items and made some good recommendations. The menu was quite diverse and fun with descent prices. The only problem was the drink prices were high in comparison. I will go back again for the food, not the drinks. :-)

Great food and service. Owner was very involved and came over to check in on things and chat. Had the chorizo fried rice, bread and ricotta, wings, and fries (split between 2 big eaters). Will definitely be back!

Descriptive phrase: fresh, classier pub. Been meaning to stop in to Wayward Kitchen Co. ever since this old Allen-Bradley factory-worker bar in Clock Tower Acres cleaned up into a fancier space. The first area is all about the bar, with a space for live music, but there is a raised seating area in back too. We sat at the bar, where I started with their Mango Margarita ($7.50). They make the mango extract on-site, and sure enough it was mango-taste without the sickly-sweet you get from the sugar-packed syrup. Well executed, for sure. Starting with their house Chips and Salsa ($8) was the best choice we made that night. The chips were obviously fresh from the fryer, and were served with three unbelievably-fresh salsas: mango black bean, pico de gallo, and avocado. Fantastic. My wife tried the Wayward Burger ($14), and their namesake was not a disappointment. Each of the ingredients (Gorgonzola, bacon jam, arugula) was present and meshed well, and the homemade seasoned fries were perfect. The Beef & Chorizo Fried Rice Burrito ($15) was less impressive. It was massive (easily 2 whole meals), but I felt that the ground beef was overpowering and it was missing a few fresher ingredients in it to tie it to the rest of the menu. The chef came in later at the bar and noticed my expression and asked what I thought it could use to improve upon it, which proves how into his craft this guy is. I did love the Mexican corn on the cob it was served with, however. Wayward Kitchen Co. was as tasty as I expected overall, but I was impressed with the freshness of some of their dishes in such a "bar" environment. Worth checking out, for sure.

This was such a totally weird experience, that I'm honestly not sure how to rate them. Wayward has been bookmarked for me for a long time, and that solid 4 stars it's been boasting has kept them on my mind. Well when a foursome of us was looking for a cool place for a double date on Friday, Wayward was one of the first places that came to mind. The menu looked promising, and they took reservations - so we called ahead and booked our four-top for 8:00pm last Friday. We arrived and were shocked that there was actually ample parking in the attached angle lot. We parked and when we got in, we realized why: There was ONE other table there! There were a couple people at the bar, and then a two-top finishing up outside. We sat outside as well, and the bartender was waiting on us. We ordered a couple of a "special" drink - The Green Dragon had seltzer, dragon fruit vodka and lime juice. It was good. The boys stuck with beer. We wanted to try a couple appetizers and enjoy our drinks for a bit, so we asked where to go... pretzels are easy to share? He said he'd recommend the chips over the pretzels, so we ordered the appetizer of chips and salsa trio. The chips were great! They were homemade and fresh piping hot out of the fryer with a perfect amount of salt on them. The salsas on the either hand... were not. There was a ramekin of black beans, a ramekin of guac and a ramekin of pico. All three were completely under-seasoned and tasteless... I liked the chips so much that I honestly just poured hot sauce on my plate and dipped the chips in that and skipped the trio completely. We also ordered the appetizer special of the night which was reuben croquettes. I was stoked by the idea of this, but the execution was just not there. There wasn't much meat, and there was not a trace of sauerkraut (which leads me to believe there either wasn't any, or very little because that's a hard flavor to lose!). There were only three per order, and no one really cared for the smushy interior consistency. Before dinner I ran to the restroom to wash my hands. I almost lost my appetite by the undeniable stench of sewage that emanated from...somewhere in the bathroom. The boys noted that the same vile smell was clouding their bathroom as well. Look into that, guys. Entrees came out, and we had ordered a turkey burger, a black bean burger, a Wayward burger (beef patty) and poutine. The burgers were fine, no one complained, but no one raved. The poutine was pretty gross. It had a dark dark, almost black gravy over the top of it. The sauce was congealed upon delivery, and extremely salty. Seemed like gravy had been burned and reduced and served. There was barely any short rib to speak of, and the cheese curds were not of the 'squeaky' variety. Staff was nice, service was good, food was weird and atmosphere was borderline uncomfortbale. For a place with 4 solid stars, a single table on a Friday night is just the beginning of the end.

I was visiting their new website and new menu items one day and saw Ramen Sliders. I got excited and went in the very next day for lunch. It was a Saturday, so the brunch menu was also available. Wayward is one of the few places in town that serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Make a note of that for when you're wondering where you can get brunch on a Saturday. Hmm, that might be a future list for me. Anyway, I ordered the Ramen Sliders and I paused before I picked one up because I thought the presentation was stellar. Sorry if that sounds cheesy, but presentation matters to me. I loved the use of the red chili peppers and green spinach leaf for contrasting colors. The ramen "buns" held together well, for the most part. Only one of the 6 pieces was starting to come apart. The meatball with Spicy Soeul Sauce was delicious and the sauce wasn't overly spicy, for those who aren't fans of spicy foods. Overall, I was a fan and would order these again. At $10.00 for 3, I thought they were worth the price, considering the time it must have taken to prep. The plate was garnished with wasabi peanuts. The sliders were small, as sliders are and I didn't order a side of fries, so I was still open for something else and decided to try an order of Candied Pepper Bacon and Crushed Potatoes. The Candied Pepper Bacon needed a bit more candy and pepper flavor, but it was still tasty. The Crushed Potatoes became one of my new favorite side dishes! Not quite a crispy on the outside as intended, but well-seasoned and very buttery. YUM! I'll have to try to make them at home. The brunch menu consists of some dinner menu items but also features a "Big A$$ (breakfast) Burrito" and "Corned Beef Cheesy Hash," both items I'd like to go back and try some time.

Tried Wayward for the first time last night! Loved it! Taco Tuesday includes an $8 all you can eat special so I jumped on that! My friend ordered fried zucchini and lettuce wraps. Portions were big! The music was all my favorite from Modest Mouse to the Shins! Was there about 4 hours. The bartender gently reminded us how late it had gotten. It was 10:30 and the website says they were open until Midnight. I never like feeling rushed or pushed out of a place... But that aside, I highly recommend wayward!

Wayward (def.): adj. "difficult to control or predict because of unusual or perverse behavior" Taken literally, perhaps that's not the best word one could use to describe their kitchen. I'd prefer to think of Wayward Kitchen company as a little remote and removed from the throng of restaurants north of the Allen-Bradley clock tower. Thus, wayward. (Wayward Kitchen Co. is just south of A-B on 1st St. It hides in plain view.) Whatever. This place is serving up some unique and delicious food. On two trips we've ordered the Ramen Sliders. If I return ten times. I'll order the Ramen Sliders ten more times. These little Asian-influenced sandwiches are wonderful and instantly crave-inducing. As far as I know, they're the only ones in town making them. But sliders aren't the only reason to dine at Wayward. Everything else I've tried has been exceptional too. The braised beef entrée is soul-satisfying comfort food. And, even though I was famished upon first bite, the portion was so large that I could only eat half. Well, I did spoil my appetite a bit by ordering the appetizer special: steamed clams. These weren't just any steamed clams, these were clams steamed in a peppery, buttery broth that was so rich I could have made this my full entrée. Truly. You know the common query: What would you eat if it were your last meal on earth? For me, an American Pale Ale, two pounds of steamed clams and some fresh bread just may be my answer. And if it were, I'd want my clams prepared by Chef Tyler Mason, Wayward Kitchen Co.'s big man in white. Another thing I like about Wayward, I've always had great service. Megan--Tyler's main squeeze--and her staff have always welcomed us warmly and made sure we left happy. They've got a good beer selection too, something you know I can appreciate! So carry on my Wayward Kitchen. There'll be peas when you are done! Sorry. I couldn't resist. ;)

Tucked inside an unassuming block building in Walker's Point is Wayward Kitchen Co. Although one of the new players in town, their love of good food will soon carve their initials into the Milwaukee food scene. Doing their part to showcase local spirits and shop local for the best and freshest ingredients, why not try one of their innovative desserts after your Kimchi Fried Rice or in my opinion, one of the best burgers in the city? Good enough for breakfast, the Cream Cheese & Walnut Blondie with Red Velvet Ice Cream is breaking all of the rules for you. The brownie is the frosting and the ice cream is your cake. All-natural coloring gives this homemade ice cream that signature, mahogany hue. The light cocoa flavor compliments the cream cheese and toasted nut in the Blondie. Using localy roasted coffee from Anodyne, Wayward mixes in Stoli Vanilla and Black Raspberry with a splash of Kringle Creme Liqueur to create Kringle Coffee. It tastes just like a raspberry Kringle straight out of Racine and adds a fruity note that compliments the dessert. The Dulce de Leche Chocolate Gingerbread Cake is moist, yet firm. The bright blackberry flavors from the reduction, as well as fresh berries add a brightness to the dessert. The dulce sauce is creamy and sweet to blend with the other flavors. If you care for a cherry on top, enjoy with a glass of the Picos del Montgo Garnacha. This wine boasts a silky mouth-feel with cassis and dark cherry notes. This one is not your traditional rice ball - it is much better. Crack into the crispy cinnamon and sugar spiced crust of the dessert Arancini to reveal coconut rice pudding with a heart of chocolate hazelnut spread. Swirl each bite through the house-made orange marmalade to brighten up the flavors. Mudpuppy Porter from Central Waters Brewing Co. is a cup of "Wisconsin Coffee" with the rich coffee, chocolate flavors in the beer. Wayward Kitchen Co. transfers a love of food into their menu. Adding years of industry experience to what they know and love takes everything to the next level and creates memorable dishes. They avidly support local businesses and keep their drink list true to self as well. Wayward is well positioned to please any local or food traveler looking to experience some of the best of Wisconsin has to offer.
